I spoke to someone earlier this week who told me that Monday and Tuesday Zack Sanchez was running with the second team defense. Freshman, Jordan Thomas, was running with the first team.
I don’t know if that continued throughout the week and does NOT mean that Sanchez won’t start. It may simply be a case of trying to get Jordan Thomas reps so that he’s prepared for this weekend’s game in case Sanchez is limited in the number of reps he feels comfortable taking in the game.
Just wanted to pass the information along.

My guess is that it is just a precautionary measure to avoid any aggravation of his shoulder injury. By the way has there been any news of exactly the nature of the injury. Just a stinger?
Sanchez stated he was just sore and would not have limited mobility but I don’t see him playing the whole game unless it just becomes necessary. I can see them giving Thomas a lot of good reps.
That makes sense to get Jordan first team reps – and I’m sure it’s because we know what Zack can do.
I like the idea too. Who knows, perhaps Thomas can take all or the vast majority of the reps vs. Tennessee and allow us to rest Sanchez ’til the following week’s trip to WVU. If we can get through this one without Zack, maybe the staff will go with Thomas, Taylor, Johnson or Austin. It would be nice to get these guys more game reps before Big 12 play.
All plausible explanations, guys. We’ve seen JT perform well the last couple of games. He’s far from a worse case scenario replacement. Kid has a high ceiling.
Any word on how Stanvon is practicing? He seems to be performing well to my eyes with the limited time he’s been on the field.
Also this game is an opportunity for a guy like Cortez to get some burn if he can keep his head up and work hard he may need to be called on to matchup against the size of Tennessee’s receivers.
I thought he did a nice job last week as well but I was told they’re still higher on JT at the moment
