I don’t know if this is a big deal to any of you, or if you were even aware of the “controversy” surrounding OU’s band director, but the University of Oklahoma just released a statement regarding the resignation of said controversial band director.
You can read the full release here.
The band’s previous director, Brian Britt, is returning to lead The Pride.

Quite a bit on controversy on this one. Campus is abuzz with people who generally wouldn’t care about the band being outraged with the politics behind him being there as long as he has. I won’t get into the details cause I can’t confirm how much is true, but it involves Boren, several large boosters, and obviously the band director. Glad this happened though, I think its for the best.
Someone please remind me why Britt left? TIA
That was my question too.
He left to be the head of instrumental music at Richardson (TX) ISD. The move was because he wanted to spend more time watching his daughter grow up, according to what I’ve read about it.
It sure seemed to me like the complaining has been going on for more than 2 years. I was surprised to learn the new guy had only been there that long. Doesn’t much matter to me either way.
I went to the KSU game with a friend of mine who hadn’t been to an OU game since the new band director had come on board, and he kept asking me, “What is wrong with our band? I don’t remember them being so lame.”
I just remember people would actually go early to the stadium just to see the band come in pre-game back in the eighties, haven’t paid much attention to them the past several years. Lot’s of stories going around about turmoil among members so it’s probably for the best.
This day has been a whirlwind of emotions for the alumni of the Pride of Oklahoma and the current members. It has been a long time coming, but it has finally arrived, and we couldn’t be happier. If you want details regarding the situation, please visit any of the OKC news websites, kfor.com, koco.com, etc. The story should be on both of those as well as on the OU Daily website and the Daily Oklahoman website newsok.com.
