Frank Shannon Info

Most of you probably noticed Shannon was not on the depth chart. Sources told me recently that Shannon will not play until all his legal issues are resolved.

I’m also being told that Shannon has not been receiving any reps with the first or second team.

Not much to say about that other than that sucks!!

I don’t understand this. If a stay has been placed on the University’s decision to suspect Shannon, then he should be treated for now like there was no punishment. He should be allowed to stay in class and stay on the team … both of which are being allowed. But if he was the starting ILB before the punishment, not playing him is applying punishment, and that would seem to be in defiance of the court ruling.

What confuses me about all this is…it seems nothing really changed from the point the university released a statement about this and the month and a half prior when he was technically “suspended”. But for much of the spring Frank was running with the 1s. So why the sudden change? Maybe I missed something. Drake…have you heard anything about this being because of some recent pressure from the admin? I personally haven’t heard much about the situation from the folks I talk to.

K, all of this is above Stoops, at this point. Admin is trying to clean up OU’s off-season image. Until this legal issue is over with OU really has no option but to sit him due to a subpar public perception right now.

Gotcha. Any word on whether the Mixon situation played into how they chose to move forward with Shannon?

          • TheDrakeOU says:

Had to have played, at least, a minor role. If you look at the off-season OU had, they came into it with Shannon in a Title IX issue that has yet to be resolved. You add DGB( who I think by rule should’ve been eligible. Morally? That’s up for debate). All in all it’s been a culmination of things.

This one has me baffled. I can accept that someone stepped up their game and won the starting spot, but how can a leading tackler not be on the two deep with a stay in place?

  • Coach JK says:

I think this is Bob being very careful and not wanting to jeopardize the program in any way. The NCAA can be very tricky when things change in situations like these.

    • JB says:

NCAA isn’t involved here. This is strictly a legal & university policy issue. Playing Shannon while his stay is in effect would not violate any NCAA rules.

      • Coach JK says:

Thats the way it stands now but just as they do in many cases they have a tendency to manipulate these situations with their own slants!! I don’t think Bob wants to take a chance. Just my opinion
