Open Post | Weekend, Apr. 29th – May 1st (UPDATE Fri., 2:02 pm)

Trey Sermon: It was just this past Wednesday we alerted you to a possible change of plans regarding when 2017 RB Trey Sermon (Marietta, GA) may announce a commitment.

Keep a close eyes on this one, as a decision could be forthcoming very soon…. – (TFB)

K’Jakyre Daley & The ‘Jack’ LB: Yesterday we mentioned OU visiting DE/OLB K’Jakyre Daley (West Palm Beach, FL). I spoke briefly with Daley earlier this week and it became apparent very quickly he is very much interested in Oklahoma.

“They were my fourth offer, and they’re very high on my list. And I believe I’m the same for them,” Daley said of OU.

Unfortunately Daley doesn’t think it will be feasible to make a trip to Norman for an unofficial visit, but he did say there are absolutely plans to use one of his official visits to see OU in the fall. It’s a little early but my immediate impressions in terms of OU’s chances with Daley are positive.

– LB Recruiting: I also continue to like where the Sooners stand with 2017 LB Addison Gumbs. But it is also worth mentioning OU offer & 2017 DE/OLB Isaiah Thomas is planning on taking a trip to Alabama this weekend. Thomas does not yet hold an Alabama offer, but that could change once he gets on campus.

It’s unclear right now whether Thomas will end up at OLB or grow into a defensive end and that’s essentially what Oklahoma has told him. But if we assume he ends up as an OLB, then the Sooners are in a competitive position for at least three really nice OLB prospects in this 2017 class.

Note: I haven’t checked with Thomas, yet but Tre Brown let TFB know Bama will be in Tulsa tomorrow to see him. So it wouldn’t surprise me if they stop by to get a look at Thomas as well before his trip to Tuscaloosa, but I’ll try to confirm that. – (Super K)

Nelson Mbanasor: As we told you all on Thursday, Calvin Thibodeaux did make it by to see 2017 DE Nelson Mbanasor (Pflugerville, TX). Mbanasor did let TFB know an offer was not extended, but we get the sense OU is simply looking at a number of DE/DT targets right now and still evaluating which to offer. – (Super K)

– Joshua Moore: This past week the Sooners offered 2018 WR Joshua Moore (Yoakum, TX), who has also visited Oklahoma for a spring practice. In talking to him prior to this news, it always seemed pretty clear the OU offer was one he very much wanted. When he received it, he made the excitement known to the world and pinned this tweet to the top of his Twitter timeline.

– UPDATE (Fri., 9:00 am): 2017 WR Ceedee Lamb has decommitted from Oklahoma.

– UPDATE (Fri., 2:02 pm): Denzel in da house.

Boomer!!!! Good morning, all. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

  • Framoka says:

Sooner! The draft was interesting; hopefully Sterling goes soon in the 2nd round. Was Ole Mi$$ caught paying LT? http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2016/4/28/11533946/laremy-tunsil-ncaa-instagram-texts-coach

  • Framoka says:

Sounds very positive that OU lands Sermon. Would be a huge get!

  • SoonerOracle737 says:

So it’s wrong to smoke weed with a gas mask? Why? What’s so disturbing about the mask?

    • J.r. Kamm says:

I don’t think the weed and the gas mask were the biggest hit — millions of college kids have smoked some weed. With that said, it is also illegal and banned by the NFL — so a team would be taking a gamble that they’ve got a habitual offender on their hands. Do you want to pump millions of dollars into a kid that will have to sit out suspension games because he can’t quit toking?

I think the biggest hit of the night was the admitted impermissible benefits from the Ole Miss coach(es).

    Power walk to 2016——–

  • Jdizzle says:

Do we have to worry about Tre Brown looking elsewhere? Or is this one of those “can’t turn down meeting with Saban” type visits?

    • OUZach says:

Any recruit that is worth a damn will have coaches come and visit them at school, including OU commits past and present. Coaches don’t want to start turning away college coaches, especially high profile coaches, from coming to their school as it may allow them to see a player they didn’t know about.

    • Jordan Esco says:

I’m of the opinion that anytime Bama comes sniffing around there’s cause to be concerned.

  • Matthew Hawkins says:

Sam Bradford is an embarrassment. How can a mediocre at best QB get paid $22M dollars a year and complain? Win 11 games Sam and you will keep your job.

    • Shelby is a Patriot says:

Wow, really? Bradford is doing what’s best for him as a player, like every other player in the league does. It has nothing to do with money.

      • SoonerOracle737 says:

        Troll alert.

      • Matthew Hawkins says:

His $22M contract makes him untradeable. His agent and he should know this.

His job should now be to make this trade look bad by being better than Carson Wentz. He is looking like a petulant child.

        • J.r. Kamm says:

That’s why the Broncos came calling?

          • Matthew Hawkins says:

The Broncos drafted a QB. If Bradford goes there it is exactly the same situation.

          • Shane Rivas says:

They didn’t move up and trade away all their picks to get a qb, and they have a solid team already.

          • Matthew Hawkins says:

The Broncos offered a 5th round draft pick and were going to require Bradford to cut his salary (or as they say restructure) by 7-10M. It wasn’t that serious of an inquiry.

          • Matthew Hawkins says:

I think it was a bad trade. But it should be Sam’s job to prove that instead of being a diva and sitting out OTAs and threatening to hold out.

That is not what a leader does.

          • Shane Rivas says:

I agree on the holding out thing. But he can’t both throw and catch the ball, he isn’t going to have much success from his back (because they can’t protect him) so help him help himself then it’s up to him to prove it.

          • Shelby is a Patriot says:

But the Broncos did try to trade for Sam, but the Eagles were asking for too much. Sam’s base salary for the team that trades for him would be 7 mil which is what they wanted Kaepernick for.
Obviously, if the Broncos had gotten Sam, they wouldn’t have draft Lynch because they don’t have the cap space for both.

    • J.r. Kamm says:

BS. He hasn’t had a line or receivers worth a crap since his rookie year. Couple that with a new OC at every turn? Recipe for disaster — and he’s still getting paid. How is that an embarrassment?

      • Matthew Hawkins says:

His asking for a trade is an embarrassment. Where is the competitive spirit? Stay healthy, win games, make the playoffs, look better in practice, don’t whine. Do those things and you will keep your job. If not you will move on. But he is being paid $22M next year. The team doesn’t owe him anything else than a paycheck. It is up to him to prove he is worth keeping.

        • Shelby is a Patriot says:

You’re missing the point. Sam is gone either way. Why spend another year getting used to a new Coach in offense just to be gone the year after? If he goes to a different team now, he can spend that year proving to them he’s a long term starter and get a new contract.
It doesn’t matter how well Bradford plays for the Eagles, they gave up too much for Wentz. He will be their guy at some point. If both Bradford and Wentz look good, who do you go with? The young guy you traded up a lot picks for.
It’s better for Sam to leave now, rather than later. How you feel about Sam as a player and how much money he has made is irrelevant. Sam thinks he can play, and so might other teams. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like the Eagles are going to trade him.

          • metzker says:

            Well stated.

          • Matthew Hawkins says:

Prove you are a leader by showing up to OTAs. Prove you are a better QB by winning games. He he goes 11-5 than they will not give up on him.

But even if they have given up on him. They are paying you $22M a year. Use this year as an audition and do your job.

          • Jim Casy says:

The ownership quit on the team. Hard to play for quitters. Make no mistake Philly quit.

          • Shelby is a Patriot says:

Why should he have to prove something to a team that’s only interested in him short-term when he can go to another team and earn a long-term contract?
It doesn’t matter what they’re paying him. Players making good money ask for trades because of what is best for their football career all the time. It isn’t all about money. The Eagles could have drafted Sam help on offense so they can win now, instead they drafted his replacement. Why should Sam help the Eagles if the Eagles aren’t helping Sam?

          • Matthew Hawkins says:

Do you do your job for the salary you are paid? Do you have pride to do your job the best you can do?

If he isn’t going to work hard for $22M, why would any other team even want him.

          • Shelby is a Patriot says:

You are really hung up on how much money he makes. Players get paid for the service they provide, that doesn’t mean they can’t ask for a trade to a team that is more suited for their future. They’re still going to get paid. Just like the Eagles are allowed to do what they think is best for the team, the players are allowed to do what is best for them.
Sam wants to play football, and he’s making the decision that will make sure he’s doing it for a while longer. It’s not rocket science.

    • Tony B says:

If you were getting $22 million a year and a starting QB in the NFL I’d say your life is far from embarrassing. Surround Sam with some talent and he will succeed. SMH troll!

      • Matthew Hawkins says:

I agree. So he should shut up and do his job.

        • Jim Casy says:

Sam Bradford has shut up and done his job his whole life. This is different and he has a limited age window.

          • Matthew Hawkins says:

            Limited age window for what?

He is the starting QB. Do the Eagles have to promise him the job in perpetuity for him to show up and work hard? I think the $22M should guarantee that.

          • Jim Casy says:

A limited age window to play the game and succeed on a team that wants to win. NFL has salary cap, draft picks and dead money. Eagles FO took a big poop on all of that.

          • Matthew Hawkins says:

Play well this year and he will get an opportunity next year.

Sit out like a diva and what team will want him? He has yet to live up to any of the contracts he has been given. In his career he has made $78M and thrown 78 TDs. He needs to put in the work and prove his value. You don’t do that by sitting out and complaining that your team doesn’t love you enough.

          • Jim Casy says:

I don’t think you understand the NFL. Sam can set the NFL passer rating record next year and they are still committed to the D2 player because of the salary cap.
Sam is in no way, shape or form part of their future.

          • Matthew Hawkins says:

If he plays well some other team will want him. Why does he have to be part of their future to do what they are paying him very well to do?

          • Malicong says:

It harder to play well when the front office is deconstructing the current team to build around his backup with no intentions of helping Sam succeed. He wants to live up to his contract, not live in fear of getting pummeled behind another makeshift o-line with no one to throw the ball to.

          • Matthew Hawkins says:

It is called being a professional.

          • Malicong says:

And it works both ways. The Eagles told him he was their guy, then sold the farm for someone to take his place while setting up Sam for failure.

          • Matthew Hawkins says:

If he goes deep in the playoffs they won’t dump him.

    • Shane Rivas says:

He is still in the league, had 6 different offensive coordinators, had all the injuries and is still getting paid coaches and owners obviously see his talent.

      • Shane Rivas says:

He’s pissed because instead of drafting some much needed talent to help him they traded away their picks and drafted a “backup” qb

    • xunilla says:

Maybe if more players stood up to the idiocy of the Eagles they could field a decent team. The Eagles need a #1 WR. A #1 CB. A #1 LB. A #1 OG. A RT. You know what they don’t need? Another freaking QB.

  • Sooner Ray says:

Open Post up at daylight, that can only mean a big day is coming.

  • Mizuno45 says:

Sam Bradford’s biggest issue is the injury bug followed him to the the NFL

  • Ed Cotter says:

Wow, an early OP, can life get any better? Oh yeah, having a Friday off, but, nope, not for me. Have a great day everyone.

  • Randy says:

So does this mean OU or Browning himself has moved on. ?

    • Lane Gilstrap says:

I just take it like, you better get on board because we aren’t waiting on many people. We have more players interested so there’s more to choose from.

    • SoonerFan92 says:

I sure hope not. Either he or Hines paired with Draper would be a steller group for this class. I personally think we come away with Hines for some reason, though.

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

I don’t think Nelson Mbanasor is gonna happen. On his twitter PJ was visiting him and he put on his Texsa gear and said it was to counter PJs OU gear.

Ole Miss will get punished about as much as Auburn and Newton did.

    So don’t hold your breath.

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

Wow thanks guys two posts before my second cup of coffee.

  • Jason Vos says:

So with OSU losing all this talent to the draft. There is no reason why we shouldnt beat them next year baring injuries. No way they can be a well oiled machine by game 3 with all these guys that left for the draft

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

Need to get on them early for sure

    • Shelby is a Patriot says:

Not to mention we will have already played a good team in Houston. Ohio State will have not been tested yet. We definitely have some advantages going into the game.

    • Matt says:

The problem is their recruiting. They have a whole wave of blue chips just waiting to see the field.

      • SoonerfanTU says:

Yep. I think it’s a game OU should win, being that it’s in Norman, but it’s not going to be easy. You can bet Meyer will have them ready to play us. OU will have to be physical up front. That’s the one area that OSU could come in and create issues for us.

        • Jim Casy says:

And Isn’t Tom Herman Meyer’s buddy? And we play Houston first.

          • Matt says:

and they run a very similar scheme to what Clemson ran and what Texas ran against OU last year. A scheme that Stoops hasn’t done great against to say the least. The one caveat is Tennessee, that scheme was very similar and the Sooners were able to totally shut it down in the second half.

          • Matthew Hawkins says:

I so am not sure it was the scheme, it might be the talent.

          • Matt says:

I think it’s going to be a big issue next year. It really puts pressure on your linebackers. 3 out of 4 linebackers will be new

  • SoonerFan92 says:

It was driving me INSANE when everyone including ESPN were reporting that Ohio State was the first program in history with 3 top ten picks. 2009 wasn’t too shabby for OU when they sent 3 of the top 4 picks back then.

    • SoonerfanTU says:

Outside of the initial comment made on air at the draft, everything else I saw referenced OU as well.

      • SoonerFan92 says:

My Twitter timeline was going nuts with it after the comment maid on air. That was where i saw most of it.

        • Jim Casy says:

Sportscenter has played on a loop all morning at my place and they are giving OU rec.

          • SoonerFan92 says:

I’ve kind of fallen away from listening to that station. Which could definitely be the reason why I didn’t see that positive spin for OU.

          • Jim Casy says:

I only had it on for draft details and background noise. Otherwise it stays off unless I’m watching sports.

    • Scott says:

ESPN hates OU for some reason.

    • j l says:

Michigan state had 4 of the top 8 in ’67.

      • SoonerFan92 says:

Yeah. I knew that there were others that had done that kind of thing before. I just wanted to direct it towards OU since I always wear my crimson colored glasses lol.

  • Jason Vos says:

I always knew Ole Miss were a bunch of cheats.

    • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

My ex goes to ole miss and I’ve been telling her for years they are cheating their asses off. I hope they get hammered with sanctions

  • Lincoln Hawk says:

    DOWNdate on it’s way…

  • Jeremy Phillips says:

With Bo Davis out at Bama.. Where does that put everyone that’s in competition for Wilson..? Especially the Sooners..

    • SoonerFan92 says:

Since he said that Bama was now out the race, one could only think it helps the Sooners out. Still feel like he’s a bit of a reach though.

      • Soonerfandave84 says:

LSU or Texsa as of now for Wilson. Sooners have a lot of ground to make up

        • SoonerFan92 says:

That’s what I’ve been seeing as well. Only thing that is making me hold out hope is that he hasn’t made a trip to Norman yet. There are a lot of recruits that say the experience was much better than expected after they leave Norman. Hopefully he will do the same.

  • Jordan Esco says:

    • CrimsonNative says:

      Haha….I can dig it.

    • wolfbuilder says:

I know yall were thinking they would only take 1 hs kid but with the possibility of a rb commitment and the report from Rob Cassidy saying AJ Davis I’d still very interested in ou one might think Jay would take 2 hs rb if it’s the right ones, any thoughts bud

      • Jordan Esco says:

Well I was w/ you in thinking two h.s. RBs, it was K who said just one. But I didn’t think they’d be able to get both Sermon & Dobbins in the same class. So who knows, they may feel good w/ the two (assuming what’s expected to happen soon does happen) they got and move on to other positions.

Could also depend heavily on as the season progresses whether they get a strong indication as to which way Mixon is leaning.

        • wolfbuilder says:

Ok I got ya, so maybe we don’t get Dobbins, we know AJ likes OU but here is another, what about Chuba Hubbard, have we heard anything from him

  • SoonerFan92 says:

So if y’all had a choice on the receiver to replace him, who would it be? Manning, Robinson, Shavers, Ausbon or someone else that I might be forgetting?

  • Framoka says:

Not be be a downer, but we might lose a CB as well; for many its about perceived playing time. Good news is we can stand to lose Lamb and we are absolutely stacked at 2017 CB! Its still really early in the process.

    • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

What defensive back? The only one I could think of would be Bandy?

      • Framoka says:

I have no inside info; just pointing out that those guys are all really good and they know it. Potential playing time might become a consideration; I’m sure other schools will use it in their pitch e.g. we have need for you right now and you can play as a true freshman.

    • Jim Casy says:

better not be TB. He’s my pet in this class.

  • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

I love how Lamb was called out on Twitter the other day for taking OU off his bio and he snapped at the guy and said ” nah, it’s not like that” then 2 days later he de commits. Whatever, hopefully we can get Omar now. Ready for a BOOM today.

    • SoonerFan92 says:

He was also talking with the other 2017 members and was saying he was going to burn them every day in practice, too.

      • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

I saw that! Which is why I believed him, but looks like we’re the fools. I really don’t understand it.

  • hOUligan says:

Dang!! Gotta get my BOOMER on early. Only just after 7 on the coast and things are rockin’ in the TFB world. Headlines…. Ole Miss cheats … shocking. Ceedee decommits… did not see that coming /s …. A BOOM is on the way!!! All is right w/ the world.

  • kokevo says:

With so long to go before NSD we will have more decommitts it’s just part of it.

    • ccmosaic says:

not sure. But I also know we will be getting a couple kids that are committed else where.

Just want to make it abundantly clear no one is celebrating the fact this kid failed to qualify.

So with that out of the way, to all the Ok State ppl who shat all over OU fans saying that talk at the time was nothing but sour grapes….maybe you’ll listen next time to people who know of what they speak.
    https://twitter.com/JUCOFFrenzy/status/725892590705467392

    • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

It’s quite unbelievable some of these kids don’t qualify academically. I mean, I would have had to TRY to fail high school or do poorly. These coaches give them plenty of time to study and get the help they need but some fall flat and don’t take the steps necessary to do well. Hope it works out for Tramonda, he’s a beast of a man.

To be fair, our education system is broken. However, that’s not stopping a kid from learning on his own. That’s what I did.

      • Jim Casy says:

Red states love to not fund public education.

        • Shelby is a Patriot says:

Throwing money at something doesn’t always solve the problem. Public education is a problem all across the country, and the U.S. spends more money on it than any other country in the world by a lot.

          • Jim Casy says:

            Do you have the figures?

          • Shelby is a Patriot says:

Actually the most recent study has the U.S. fourth compared to the one from a few years back. Regardless, the matter of our education system is a complex one. There are countries doing better in education with less. It’s not really about money. There’s a lot that goes into it but I don’t want to get political on here. I will say, though, that culture is a part of it. Millennials have their priorities mixed up.
            https://www.oecd.org/unitedstates/CN%20-%20United%20States.pdf

          • Soonerfan24 says:

If Millenials have mixed up priorities, then what does that say about the generation that raised Millennials?

          • Shelby is a Patriot says:

Quite a lot. I’m not saying Millennials are the only problem. It’s a complicated issue because in today’s society everything is connected more so than ever before. One problem somewhere creates problems elsewhere.

          • Jim Casy says:

We sucked at it because half of us grew up in broken homes lol. Divorce rate skyrocketed when gen-x was growing up.

I was certainly blessed and was raised in a nicer area than most, but do I for one second think that’s all that determined the kind of person I’ve become? No way. Priorities and will power have everything to do with it. Any one of us can better our situation. Sure we will need help from others, but that’s the beauty of it, you can ALWAYS find help. Help can come in many shapes and sizes and from many different people.

          • Shelby is a Patriot says:

Of course not every millennial is the problem. As I said, there’s a lot that goes into this. But I do I believe my generation is a part of it. It’s not all them, and it’s not all their parents. There’s plenty of blame to go around.
As Lincoln said, the will to learn is all a big part of it. I think my generation as a whole is less inclined to learn. I grew up poor, my mother never went to High School so she couldn’t help me with homework and most of her husbands/boyfriends were bad guys. I didn’t learn a thing in High School. So I learned on my own. But not everyone is like that. There is a lot that goes into why our Education System is failing, and I do believe culture is a part of it.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

I’m glad you’ve done well for yourself! But there it is again. You proved my point. You didn’t have the blessing others had but bc you’re a strong person you overcame those obstacles. You are strong willed and that shows a lot. There is a lot that goes into our education system failing and that’s for others to figure out.

          • Shelby is a Patriot says:

Yes, I was agreeing with you in that sense. But I still think millennials are a problem.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

            Lol. Fair enough.

          • hOUligan says:

Good for you. I have dealt first hand and see more stories daily about dis-advantaged kids who overcome their circumstances through will and effort. Homeless kids living in cars who will themselves out of their circumstances rather than use it for an excuse.

          • Shelby is a Patriot says:

It helps to remember that there are people who have it worse and do not live in the U.S. and have the same opportunities as I do.

          • Matthew Hawkins says:

How do people who have it a lot worse and live outside the US have the same opportunity as you?

I hope this is just unclear writing.

          • Shelby is a Patriot says:

I meant that they do not have the same opportunities. My mistake for the poor wording.

          • hOUligan says:

I’m in agreement that no matter … education is the great equalizer and it is available to anyone who will put in the effort. Yes, many schools lack funds but there is always a way … local libraries, after school programs, vouchers … reward is often = to effort.

          • Jim Casy says:

Dude, I’m Gen-x. You guys are golden compared to us!

          • Rene Goupillaud says:

The blame falls squarely on the parents who helicoptered in every time little Jimmy did something wrong, demanded participation trophies and put sports over academics. Teachers caved, school administrators caved and with no mandatory military service to kick them in the butt, they never had a chance to be anything but what they are.

          • roygbell says:

Finally someone gets it. The issue isn’t all on the schools. Most of the time it is the parents who are at blame for their kids failures in the classroom.

You take a child that was read to when he/she was a baby. A child that was fed properly and whose parents send him/her to school with a full belly. A child that was disciplined when needed. You add all of that up and you are likely to have a child that succeeds in the classroom and in life.

Schools now-a-days have to serve breakfast because parents send them to school hungry. Schools can’t or don’t have discipline. Teacher/Principles have to spend way to much of their time dealing with problem children who are products of a drug addicted/alcohol addicted and don’t give a hoot about their children type of parents.

Place the fault on our educational system on the parents and not the schools.

          • Jim Casy says:

haha. I own a couple of these “millennials”….so true.

          • Jim Casy says:

            Do you have the figures?

        • DCinAZ says:

Blue states have higher dropout rates in spite of all the cash they throw at teachers unions.

          • Jim Casy says:

            why?

          • Matt S. says:

My children do quite well in school. Always will. Why? My wife, or me, always do homework with them…always stay in contact with their teachers…and are invested. This is on top of many other time-consuming responsibilities we share.

Every single family we regularly interact with, which is equally as invested, see the same results. As much as we want to blame the educational system, parents are supposed to be the largest stakeholder in their child’s development. Yet, many disinterested parents look for an ‘out’ to point their finger(s) anywhere but themselves because they are far more concerned with their own issues than ther offsprings development. This is nothing short of the opposite of selfless.

And we wonder why our society is messed up?!

PS- I’m all for paying teachers better. I’m just tired of blaming them (indirectly) of failing simply because they don’t get paid enough. Most teachers working for lower wages do it out of love for their students and ARE as invested, if not more so, than teachers making 2-3x as much money.

          • Birddawg says:

My grandmother has been teaching for over 30 years and still is teaching.. Private..Public Juve.. You name it. She has seen it all.
She’s been cursed and praised in the same day.
There’s more to just throwing money at the problem.

            Her words to me:

            why?

        • SoonerOracle737 says:

Uh, we spend 51% of our budget on education. Isn’t that considered a priority?

States spending the least per pupil included Utah ($6,555), Idaho
            ($6,791), Arizona ($7,208), Oklahoma ($7,672) and Mississippi ($8,130).
            https://www.census.gov/newsroom/press-releases/2015/cb15-98.html

          • Jim Casy says:

Damn. Mississippi even drops a few more dimes on students than OK.

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

Hey, I’d love to spend money I don’t have. We are constrained by law to have balanced budgets every year. So, we allocate over half of what we get in revenues to education. I’d say that is making it a priority.

          • Jim Casy says:

They could probably fund schools a dozen times over with fees from the HE Bailey Turnpike. It kills me how terrible the roads are when I go back to OKC from TX. 11 Bucks I give to OK to make that round trip and the roads are 1000x worse than free TX roads. WTH are they doing with that money?

          • Robert Boone says:

Your graph doesn’t tell the spending on k-12. Think before you posthttps://ballotpedia.org/wiki/images/2/2a/Oklahoma_spending_FY14.png

Look at the chart idiot. 15.6% to K-12 education. Not over half..

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

I’m talking about the budget group of “TOTAL EDUCATION and WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT” in the actual budget document which is 51% of total. No need for name calling.

Here are the entities inside of that group. This is the amount given to them in 2015. Notice the State Dept of Ed gets the lion’s share, and they are the one’s spending the given monies.

          • Bill Deblassio says:

I’m interested in an honest debate and when he keeps giving misleading data over and over it’s neither constructive or honest…

          • Drew says:

Ok then, I’ll bite. How is the data (that I posted) misleading? B/c I would argue (and actually have) that the data you’ve been posting is the misleading data. Still waiting for an actual rebuttal btw.

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

What? I quote DIRECTLY from the Official State Budget – even give line item dollar amounts – and you call that dishonest? Now that is laughable. Please go back to making NYC a more miserable place than it was.

          • Soonerfandave84 says:

Teachers have no real power and kids know this so they command no respect so kids don’t pay attention. It’s a classroom problem as much as it is anything else.

          • Shelby is a Patriot says:

That’s definitely a part of the problem. I graduated in ’14, and one of the really bad High Schools I went to the kids were out of control. Disrupting class and making the teacher cry everyday was a norm. Parents aren’t teaching their kids respect and values.

          • Soonerfandave84 says:

Yep. It’s a multi level problem

          • Jim Casy says:

My kids are shocked that they used to take us out in the hall and hit us with wooden sticks.

          • Robert Boone says:

actually, Oklahoma is 48th in the country in spending per student, ahead of only Utah and Idaho. Very sad.

          • Robert Boone says:

There is a very strong Oklahoma’s 48th place in education spending with their F grade report in the recent article.
            http://www.edweek.org/ew/qc/2016/2016-state-report-cards-map.html

          • Drew says:

I only looked briefly at that, but I have a few points:
            1. OK had a D+, not an F.
            2. The vast majority of the country got C’s or D’s outside of the Northeast, which tells me one of two things. The study is biased towards the northeast (and this seems to be the case, as the study incorporates both family income and adult income, and neither is adjusted for cost of living, and so outside of the northeast and Cali, the rest of the country is going to have a lower both mean and median income. Also, the study also incorporates English proficiency. While northeast states have few, non-English speaking immigrants coming in, every southern state has to deal with native Spanish speakers, and this study does nothing to account for this.) Second, when you factor out “potential” scores, and look just at the success scores, which is what really matters, even the northeast bias disappears, as only NJ and Mass had B’s. Overall, that study is pretty worthless.

          • Bill Deblassio says:

Yeah the facts are always biased if they don’t match the Conservative Ideology.

          • Drew says:

            Lol. Try harder bud.

          • Drew says:

Ok . . . I see a pie chart. . . . great. But if you’re going to make a point, you’re going to, well, actually have a point. Nothing in that chart addresses the forbes article I posted.

          • Robert Boone says:

            So, you have:
            1)Oklahoma allocating only 15.6% to education k-12
2)Oklahoma #48 in spending per student.
            3)Oklahoma with a D grade report #45

And you believe that all three of these statistics from three different reports are biased against Oklahoma. You also think the refs were biased in the Villanova game I bet and that we should have won.

          • Drew says:

And what about what I had? You fail to actual provide any link between spending and performance whatsoever. OK #48 in spending per student? I gave a report specifically addressing this, with OK having #27 in high school graduation. And for all the reasons I’ve mentioned in my other post, the report card study is garbage. EVERY state outside of NJ and Mass have terrible achievement scores. Try reading your own source.

          • Bill Deblassio says:

Yeah spending money on education has absolutely nothing to do with performance. Maybe we should spend the same amount as Somalia on education… I mean, if the parents do their part we will still be the smartest mericans in the world, right?

          • Drew says:

Nice strawman. All I said was that, using the past decade as evidence, there is little to no correlation between education spending and academic achievement in the US. And while agree with the sentiment that parent involvement in children’s education is paramount, I never actually made that argument; others did that. Which just goes to show you didn’t actually read any of the articles I posted. Please do so next time to avoid wasting everyone’s time.

          • SquidGiant says:

I think you might consider using common sense to avoid wasting people’s time. If you can’t acknowledge that the amount of money spent is a factor (not the only factor) in education, then you are walking proof of school’s failure. In Oklahoma, dollars spent relates directly to class sizes, teacher to student ratio, and both of these factors directly affect student performance. Throwing money at education won’t fix the problem if we don’t spend it the right way. For example, right now we waste a lot of it on standardized tests that have little value for the student. There are many problems, but money is one.

          • Drew says:

“[I’m] a walking proof of school’s (sic) failure.”

Sure buddy. Graduated with an engineering degree from a top 10 university and plan on going to med school (took the MCAT last week) from the #1 premed program in the country my freshman year. Yup, total failure. Nice ad hominem though.

Which is disappointing, b/c I don’t actually disagree with the (mostly) rest of your post. Of course you have to spend the money the right way, otherwise it doesn’t matter. But the problem is that the money IS wasted, aka not spent the right way. And the people complaining about education, those other posters on here who want more money spent, don’t realize this. All I was trying to point out is that more money is not the answer, b/c contrary to common sense (as you were so keen to claim despite provided evidence to the contrary), spending has little correlation to academic achievement within the education system as exists today. So, I’m going to have to ask you, like the other poster I was originally talking with, to actually read the evidence. Otherwise, if you’re going to just remain intentionally ignorant, then you ARE wasting everyone’s time.

PS: Standardized testing is important b/c that’s how colleges operate. You can be upset about that and have legitimate grievances about that (I know I do), but until colleges change how they operate, K-12 needs to focus on them, b/c that’s what determines going to college. Full stop.

          • SquidGiant says:

Colleges don’t care about EOI’s (What we spend the money on.) They care about ACT’s and SAT’s. (Likely the reason Moore is having to go the JUCO route.) Joy Hofmeister would tell you this. My point on common sense is that if we spent 0 dollars education, it would be horrible. That is a correlation I would think that a college educated person would understand.

          • Drew says:

You seem to misunderstand what a correlation is. Let me help. A correlation relates two statistics to each other. When increasing one statistic is accompanied by a proportional increase in the other (or vice versa), we call that positively correlated. When an increase in one statistic is accompanied by a decrease in the other (or vice versa), that’s called a negative correlation. So, in this case, a positive correlation (the kind you are arguing exists) would be the amount of money spent is accompanied with a proportional increase in educational achievement. However, a decade’s worth of statistics shows otherwise. And that doesn’t even address the common axiom “Correlation doesn’t equal causation”, where correlations, or lack thereof, mean nothing in regards to whether a causal relationship exists between two statistics.

Anyway, what I’ve been specifically arguing here in education is the idea of diminishing returns. This says that essentially, after a certain threshold has been reached, any additional resources provided results in less and less returns. So while more than $0 needs to be spent on education (duh), we long since reached the point of diminishing returns in the educational system as exists today, where spending even more money will have a negligible, if any, impact on educational achievement.

          • SquidGiant says:

Really that’s the first time you’ve mentioned diminishing returns. That is a different concept than “little to no correlation.” You act like It’s foolish to consider $0, but if you have an engineering degree you understand graphing and how it relates to correlation. I get it though it’s easier to imply that you should ignore figures that don’t agree with you. So you don’t think spending $0 on education would cause it to be bad… Do you even understand what “correlation does not equal causation” means? You don’t think that graphing performance vs. spending, starting at $0 we would see a positive slope?

          • Drew says:

I’m sure I understand better than you do, considering I’ve taken multiple courses that cover the concept. And I find it ironic that you mention ignoring figures that don’t agree with you, and proceed to ignore the evidence I’ve posted. Funny that. And you still seem to be missing my argument. I said, using this past decade as data, plotting INCREASES in spending vs performance would result in a poorly correlated relationship. Which is saying saying diminishing returns without actually using the words.

And, once again, I will reiterate that spending $0 is of course a bad, bad idea. Obviously.

          • SquidGiant says:

I don’t think graduation rates are a good way to measure educational success since graduation requirements vary from school to school and state to state. Since you are a graphing expert you must also realize that if the requirements vary it creates too many variables to accurately graph. Also, why are we simply looking at the past decade, like that has been the height of American education. It is really humorous to me that you assume you know my level of education, should I assume yours as well? I guess I won’t tell the expert that if the way you measure success changes your graph would change as well. LOL

          • SquidGiant says:

It is seriously sad that people can’t acknowledge that BOTH the amount and way you spend money are important.

          • Robert Boone says:

I do remember several members of Congress and one Presidential campaign of a certain party four years ago state “we don’t let facts get in our way” I guess you can’t fix stupid.

          • Drew says:

*looks at posted evidence, looks at unsubstantiated claims, looks at ad hominem, laughs at irony*

Sure buddy, I’m the stupid one.

          • Bill Deblassio says:

A report by Forbes? Really? Propaganda much?

          • Drew says:

As opposed to what? The thing about evidence is you either need to post your own in response, or provide a clear reason why mine is faulty. Why is the Forbes report inaccurate? Did they mislead with the data? Did they soundbite a single fact and present an editorial as hard evidence? Simply crying “propaganda” without providing an actual counterargument is worthless.

          • Dana Rogers says:

Because it’s a conservative magazine… As identified by some.

          • Drew says:

Well, I guess that might be enough for some, but I would hope an argument about intellectual authenticity would involve a more elaborate rebuttal. Oh well.

          • SquidGiant says:

The problem with the Forbes article is that it uses High School Graduation rates as an indicator of success, but there are wildly inconsistent standards for graduating high school. When you look at the college graduation rates, and 8th grade testing scores there is a definite correlation with a few exceptions.

          • Drew says:

Here we go. This is what I was wanting. However, you still left out a source for your information. Without a source, I’m forced to take your word for it. And while I don’t distrust you, I would still like to read it to make sure you are properly interpreting it (from my POV, anyway). For example, in the “report card” citation the other guy made above, actually reading their methodology behind their grading system greatly diminished the value it provided as “evidence”, b/c it was faulty and arbitrary, and the actual data disproved his assertion.

          • SquidGiant says:

I used your source… I just actually interpreted the information versus accepting what they wrote as “fact.”

          • Drew says:

With the 8th grade testing scores and college graduation rates? I just reread both articles and saw neither of those statistics evaluated. However, the HuffPo article did end with this statement:

“As the study concludes, ‘… higher levels of funding do not ensure higher graduation rates, nor do they directly correlate to higher test scores on the ACT. Improving education requires multifaceted efforts, not solely increased funding.'”

          • SquidGiant says:

I simply used the figures that the Forbes article was based off of rather than stick to the propaganda.

          • Drew says:

Ok, then can you post some of these numbers? A quote or two? I just looked back at the article and didn’t see a link back to the original data. Perfectly possible I just didn’t see it.

          • SquidGiant says:

Wow, learn how to examine an article Mr. Future Doctor…

          • Bill Deblassio says:

The point is 15.6% spent on K-12 education. Near the worse in the nation.. Does having books help with education? what about computers? What about highly-educated, well-trained teachers? Does not having any of the above affect education?

          • SquidGiant says:

We’re wasting time. These people don’t even seem to be able to acknowledge that there is a correlation between spending money on education and students doing well. It is beyond belief that we cannot agree that schools cannot run without money.

          • Drew says:

Where did I say that? Of course schools need money. All I claim is that the correlation is either minimal or non existent, and provided evidence supporting that. You, on the other hand, are firmly sticking by “there’s a correlation b/c I say so”.

          • SquidGiant says:

I don’t need an article to tell me that if you don’t have teachers and materials schools will suffer. You can’t say there is “no” correlation. that would mean we would be just as well off with whatever we can do for free, and you and I both no that’s not true. So please stop saying no correlation.

          • Drew says:

See my other comment. There has been no correlation between increased spending and improvement the last decade. “Increased” being the key word in that sentence. Diminishing returns and all that, as also explained in my other comment.

          • Bill Deblassio says:

Forbes is propaganda by the plutocrats.. The ones with 28 trillion in offshore accounts.

          • Drew says:

So no actual response? Ok. 28 trillion. Hahaha.

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

Can’t spend what you don’t have. But spending over 50% of what you do have IS a priority. Not sure what you want us to do?

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

I spoke to education as a whole. How you divide that up among the different entities is another topic.

          • Robert Boone says:

What other entities? Workforce Development? When people talk about state spending on education, they’re talking about k-12

          • Bill Deblassio says:

Keep on trying to mislead the poorly educated SoonerOracle.. Do you work for Failin? K-12 =15.6% spending. It is horrendous.

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

Where do you get your percentages? I have no data visibility into how State DOE spends money other than this graphic on State Budget document. They spend 60% of what they receive from State, Local, and Federal dollars on schools.

          • Bill Deblassio says:

Why not just post a pie chart that shows we spend 100% on education? I mean thinking as a politician couldn’t you say every type of spending has some type of education related to it? The fact is we spend 15.6% on K-12 which is what is meant by real education.. When you lose your argument though you can always fall back on stating the reason kid’s fail is because we don’t post the Ten Commandments in school or We don’t have corporal punishment or if your a real conservative it’s because we have sex-education in school..

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

You have no idea about my politics, but I can definitely read yours. This makes total sense now. Have a good day.

          • Bill Deblassio says:

Oklahoma also has the second highest incarceration rate per capita also. Failin hates education! Probably why the Private Prison Industry spent so much on Failin’s campaign…Less education, more incarcerations, a big win for for Profit Prison’s..

          • Dana Rogers says:

You forgot to call him an idiot. So do you agree or not? Now I’m all confused…

          • Bill Deblassio says:

            https://ballotpedia.org/wiki/images/2/2a/Oklahoma_spending_FY14.png

This is the real education spending on k12 is 15.6%. The one that was posted includes “workforce development”. Pay attention people.

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

I spoke to education as a whole. How you divide that up among the different entities is another topic. I suppose Teacher’s Unions would only be concerned about K-12….

          • Bill Deblassio says:

What you posted is very misleading.. They grouped education in with workforce development, which includes who knows what, so they can say they spend half of the money on education. Which in fact education on K-12 is just a measly 15.6%.It is a trick, that politicians use, especially on poorly educated people. So it seems to be working here in Oklahoma.

          • roygbell says:

Your graph is bogus as it is mixing state appropriated funds with federal funds. The State Legislature only has authority to appropriate the state revenue from taxes collected by the state. Plus, that doesn’t include the earmarked funds such as the property taxes taxes that go to schools.

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

Dude, the graph came straight from OK State Budget document.

        • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

This couldn’t be further from a political issue. This kid has know since middle school he’s been blessed with a football body and chose not to take the proper steps necessary to become a D1 athlete. I can’t stand that excuse. Regardless of the funds, teachers WILL always help a student when help is needed. They will put in whatever effort you put in and that’s almost a FACT. People need to stop making excuses for why they are unsuccessful or why they don’t have this or that and start embracing changes and solutions.

          • Jim Casy says:

The craphole that i grew up in would throw kids into ‘special’ classes rather than spend time with them. The kids problems were socioeconomic, but they were being put into classes with kids with disabilities and that is the truth about how it is handled.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

Did the parents spend the extra time with them? Honest question not picking a fight.

          • Jim Casy says:

Nope, mostly they didn’t and teachers can’t work 80 hour weeks all the time either so the answer was to put the kids in fail proof classes and the school gets the money and the kids pass. Never sat right with me.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

Personally, I think the lack of help at home supersedes the lack of funding. I’ve seen it personally with a family member. As soon as the parents got involved, grades and learning went up drastically in a short span of time. Although I do agree that our teachers are well underpaid and the majority of graduates seek employment inTexas or Arkansas due to pay levels.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Socioeconomics were the kids reasons why they didn’t do well in school? Come on dude. There is ALWAYS teachers who are more than willing to help students who WANT to learn. I may sound like a douche for saying it, but I don’t buy those excuses at all.

          • Mike Lewis says:

I have two 8th grade students that I am currently teaching in an Oklahoma middle school. They both have D1 potential in their sport and if they applied themselves could do well in school. They choose not to. I can see them scrambling to qualify when they are seniors. But it will be their own fault for not applying themselves early on.

        • Lincoln Hawk says:

Agree to disagree. Remember there has to be the will to learn.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

            Exactly Lincoln.

          • Jim Casy says:

Oh yeah, i definitely never expect agreement. I grew up as a democrat in OK/TX. I’m used to nobody ever agreeing. The older I get, the more I appreciate that balance and realize that people who disagree are not evil lol. We are still the best country in the world overall…. and OKLA, (schools and roads aside), will always be a special place to me.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

Yea I’m all for constructive dialogue, in the end we all want to pass on a greater country to our children and so on.

          • Jim Casy says:

Haha. So true. When I lived in Dallas it wasn’t that tough because there are actually Sooner fans and some Dems. When I moved to smaller cities, it was always more horns and more repubs. It is good to hear things from all angles though.

          • Bill Deblassio says:

Good luck Dude on trying to explain the benefits of education spending on an Oklahoma Sooner message board! Lol.

          • SquidGiant says:

          • Rene Goupillaud says:

Just take a look at education in California. The State is run by Democrats. The Teachers’ Union owns the Governor and the Legislature. I doubt their kids do any better than Oklahoma kids. The real problem is the use of schools for other objectives than academics.

        • Drew says:

And education spending isn’t the leading factor in academic success. First of all, costs of living in red states are usually lower than in blue states, so comparisons using unadjusted numbers isn’t helpful. But, even accounting for that, spending alone has little efficacy. I posted some of this below, but here’s what a cursory google search got me:

          http://www.forbes.com/sites/jamesmarshallcrotty/2014/02/12/infographic-higher-education-spending-does-not-correlate-with-better-academic-performance/#37406d2e512f

            That doesn’t mean it isn’t a factor.

You can’t hire decent people and spend no money.

          • Drew says:

I didn’t say it wasn’t. However, the US has been throwing money at education for over a decade now, and seen little to no improvement, which also means that more money is not the answer. In which case, money is also unlikely to be the answer in OK either. Ergo, OK’s education budget is not the problem.

          • ME says:

Oklahoma has NOT been throwing money at the educational system for the last decade. They’ve been taking money from it and giving it to the oil companies.

          • Drew says:

I didn’t say they have, but that is the case nationwide. And considering OK is actually doing fairly average in regards to the rest of the country, per the articles that have been posted on here, I would argue that there’s not an OK specific problem here. Now, you could argue that increasing the DOE budget on education would still see an increase contrary to the national (unfavorable) trend, but it’d be unsubstantiated and purely speculative at that point. Plus, it would actually hurt the general argument on here, since that would actually mean OK’s educational system is better than the vast majority of the country.

          • Drew says:

          • Rene Goupillaud says:

Every state has thrown money at education and received less for it. It’s rediculous how much we spend on things today that we never spent much on 60 years ago. Something like 90% of kids in a lot of schools get fed by the district at no cost. We have buses to take kids to school when we used to walk, ride our bike or be taken by our parent. We have more bureaucrats and are obsessed with reporting statistics on everything under the sun so that the Department of Education can employ thousands to collect it all.

We don’t spend the money wisely.

As for college, we waste a fortune there too. A lot of that is in the tuition that has skyrocketed, but some is taxpayer funded too. We’re sending folks to college and then employ them in jobs that don’t require a college education.

I think I’d rather see more jobs than more college grads.

          • roygbell says:

That is a crock of BS. 70% of the Oklahoma budget goes to education in some form or another. Oklahoma doesn’t give money to the oil companies. Oil and gas revenues are the largest component of our economy that fuel the Oklahoma economy.

You people who bitch about oil and gas companies have no clue. You just wait until we have some kind of disaster and our fuel distribution system collapses and then you learn the lesson the hard way.

One of these days when you are creeping along at 10 mph along our inner city transportation system give a thought to the kind of fuel distribution system we have. If you have a half a brain you will be in wonder at how our system keeps all these vehicles on the road day after day.

Then the next time you buy a $1.79 liter of coke think about that in terms of a gallon of gas. You are paying a lot more for a gallon of coke than for a gallon of gas. Think what you get for that gallon of coke versus the gallon of fuel for your car.

They don’t do any of the stuff in school that we didn’t like. They don’t diagram sentences. They don’t read epic poems in old English. Probably aren’t required to learn the names of artists and their works or composers and their songs. Don’t take classes in wood work, metal work or electricity, and don’t take Latin. Exposure to all of this taught us discipline and respect for those who had ability in these subjects.

We would get failed for serious grammatical or punctuation errors, they don’t. We’d get marked down for misspellings. We had to memorize and recite poems. We had to take a foreign language, 4 years of math and English, 3 years of science, along with American History and Government. Moreover, if you were college prep, all our classes were the equivalent of AP classes. All the while, we read the newspaper and were informed on current events and world leaders.

Not today. Oh, they know how to use a computer, tablet and iPhone. They can surf and play video games. But worst of all, they actually believe they are smart and when they can’t name the Attorney General, the Chancellor of Germany or our own Speaker if the House or V.P., they find it funny. We would have been embarrassed to be that uninformed.

          • Jim Casy says:

Read them both. Thanks. Yep, it is not simple problem for sure. Funding is important, I’ll maintain that, but yeah, there is a lot more that goes into it.

          • Stephen Dale says:

a lot of the problem is directly attributable to the gene pool educators work with……its hard to teach kids who lack the intellectual capacity to excel. Secondly, much of the education problem can be traced to PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT or lack thereof.

        • paganpink says:

Chicago is the highest paid. Dozens of their school principals and teachers are under indictment this week for stealing more then 900,000 dollars due to bid rigging schemes even though last year many schools ran out of even the most basic supplies and some did not even have toilet paper. They have less then 30% of graduate high school students who pass even the most basic level in reading and math. Anyone who believes that there is a correlation between public education funding and education itself is truly naïve- and dangerous to children’s welfare.

          • SquidGiant says:

If there is no correlation between money spent and the education provided, why are we spending money on it at all in a budget crisis year? Talk about a danger to children’s welfare…

          • Drew says:

B/c common sense says it does, it’s simply the evidence doesn’t bear that out. Imagine going into congress and saying that you’re going to cut education spending b/c it doesn’t work. Every political opponent you have is going to rake you over the coals for not caring about the children, saying, “of course more money is needed for education, what sort of idiot thinks it isn’t? I don’t care what his “evidence” says, it just doesn’t make any sense. Won’t anyone think of the children?”

            And it would work too.

          • SquidGiant says:

So if we spent 0 dollars on funding, education would be unaffected…

          • Drew says:

            Once again, diminishing returns.

          • SquidGiant says:

I like how you changed your argument and then acted like I missed it. Classic

          • Drew says:

Ok, sure bud. You’re welcome to reply to what I’ve already posted, and I’ll read it, but if you’re not going to start providing actual arguments, then I’m done replying to you. Have a nice day.

          • SquidGiant says:

Okay so let me ask you, is there a correlation between dollars spent and education? I can’t have this discussion with you if you always mean something else…

    • Matthew Hawkins says:

I am I am not celebrating it, but I don’t care.

OU is an academic university. That should be the first priority. If you can’t make the minimal standards than go somewhere else.

Yeah it was widely known he wasn’t going to qualify.

      • Dustin says:

Poke fans were in denial because they wanted to believe they actually beat us at something.

      • Bob Edwards says:

These are the kind of situations that should we should keep in mind when people start talking about coach so and so is an idiot for not recruiting player X. The coach probably know some things we don’t. Sometime you are better off taking a little bit lesser athlete that you are sure will actually make it to campus. A 3* on the roster is worth worth a lot more than a 5* that ends up having to go to a JUCO.

  • metzker says:

Guess we have added education to Hallmark,Guns, and snakes!

We can also talk about the blonde on game of thrones!

  • Matt says:

does everyone realize that every recruiting class Saban has signed at Bama has been a part of a national championship at some point while they were on campus? Insane.

  • Dustin says:

Odds on NCAA hitting Mississippi with sanctions? 100:1?

    • Matthew Hawkins says:

It looks bad but they have no real evidence. I imagine Tunsil will not cooperate.

      • Dustin says:

        Tunsil admitted it last night.

        • Matthew Hawkins says:

Not under oath. And the NCAA has no subpoena authority.

          • Matt S. says:

Would he have to be under oath of his recorded “confession” was captured? Some states, only a single party needs to approve a recording to be utilized and legal.

          • Matthew Hawkins says:

I think the NCAA would have a very difficult time imposing sanctions with just a mention from a press conference. While it is the not the actual government they have agreed to a due process standard.

          • Matt S. says:

Right, and due process isn’t normally stalled when a legitimate recording of a confession is used in the process. Maybe I’m overthinking this?

          • Dustin says:

Plenty of people in this country behind bars based on taped confessions and circumstantial evidence. Since we’re talking about “due process”.

          • ccmosaic says:

            Press conference and Text

          • Matthew Hawkins says:

I think the NCAA would require actual testimony under oath.

Because they are not the government they usually hold a higher standard for sanctions.

It may not be necessary, but I think the NCAA will require it.

          • ccmosaic says:

            Nope.

          • Bob Edwards says:

The NCAA is not a court of law. They don’t have to meet the same standards you do in a courtroom.

          • Dustin says:

Not under oath? It’s not a trial. They should at least launch an investigation after a player publicly states he took money. If he refuses to cooperate, that’s up to him.

          • Matthew Hawkins says:

I think they should launch an investigation, but if this is the only evidence they have, it is not enough.

          • Dustin says:

I’m sure there’s plenty of evidence to find if they try.

          • Matthew Hawkins says:

Do you think OU could survive an investigation?

          • ccmosaic says:

            yes.

          • ccmosaic says:

How about the text between Tunsil and the coach. He admitted the text was real. It is over for Ole Miss. This time next year they will be serving some serious penalty. Loss of scholarships and post season ban. The HC will not survive this either as he will be slapped with a show cause.

      • Malicong says:

They don’t need direct evidence. The burden of proof for the NCAA can be met with circumstantial evidence. They already had enough proof of impermissible benefits to suspend him for 7 games including records of loaner cars. The text messages can be used even if not obtained by subpoena. There is an upcoming lawsuit from his step-father that can be used in the NCAA investigation if it ever makes it to court. There is plenty there, it is just a matter of what the NCAA wants to do with it.

    • Shelby is a Patriot says:

Surely they have to. If they don’t do it now than when will they ever?

    • Jordan Esco says:

slap on the wrist, if anything, is what I’m expecting. But it sure seems like they’ve been dirty for a while now, so hopefully the NCAA morons prove me wrong.

      • KJ1123 says:

Yeah if that….that’s why Ole Miss fans are like…yeah we cheat but we still can send 3 guys to the NFL in the first round.

    • soonersd says:

If the NCAA or anyone cares to know when things went from DIRTY to FILTHY at Ole Miss all they need to do is look back a few years ago when they started pulling in top recruiting classes. They had yet to win anything (still haven’t) yet top HS recruits were committing there, doesn’t add up.

  • ouwooferman says:

    Unboom.

  • Swanny says:

This was a couple days ago. I just want kids to own this process. I don’t mind the committing/decommitting because we’ve won plenty of those battles. I just wish they’d own their decisions as they’ve been made and quit playing games on social media.

    • KJ1123 says:

I also think kids need to show that they are eligible before NLI day.

      • Bob Edwards says:

That’s not a bad idea, however you don’t know for sure they are eligible until the semester is over.

        • Katyboomer says:

When my kid went on official visits, we had to send in the official school transcript before we could go. So the schools have a really good idea of where the player stands.

          • Bob Edwards says:

Right, that is the current state. Schools then have to evaluate the risk the kid isn’t eligible vs the value he brings as an athlete. When you are second or third tier school you have to take those chances to get players to take you to the next level. Schools like OU shouldn’t have to take those risks. This was the one of the problems that caused us to get rid of our DL coach a few years. We were having to take those risks and losing.

          • Katyboomer says:

            agree 100%

          • KJ1123 says:

Yeah I thought you had to get at least an initial ok from the clearinghouse or something way before NLI. I think if a kid could for sure show that he was eligible by December of his senior year he should be good to go.

          • Katyboomer says:

You really only have to be cleared by the clearing house before you can participate in team activities.

          • KJ1123 says:

            Ah ok got it.

  • Randy says:

Didnt see Warren had Dobbins to OU now.. Sermon and Dobbins would be OUtstanding !!!

  • KJ1123 says:

So my Raiders picked up the kid from WVU. Not a big kid but I remember he blew somebody up when they played us last year. At least I think it was him.

  • Carl Carter says:

Can anybody explain what started the whole convo on getting 2 RB’s today rather than one?? Do we actually have the room?

    • Randy says:

Getting 2 RB commits today ? Or just the need of 2 RBs in the class ? Nothing on commits today, but me personally think we need 2 more RBs in this class. Needed 2 in ’16 class and tried but failed to get the Jacobs kid and not sure what happened on Whaley (think he wanted to play right away and will at ARK). Lose 2 SRs and possibly both Perine and Mixon. Need 3 RBs this class at min. And some say Sutton will be a slot guy as well as RB.

  • Katyboomer says:

    ETA on any BOOM’s today?

  • KJ1123 says:

One of the projections show Sterling going to Atlanta at 50. That would be a nice landing spot for him.

    • Shelby is a Patriot says:

Some think Panthers might trade up for him, as well. He’d make Cam very happy for sure. Though, I’d love to see Shep catching passes from Tom Brady.

    • Jim Casy says:

      • Shelby is a Patriot says:

        🙁

        • Jim Casy says:

ha. we must have been typing at the same time. Patriots are well ran and would be good for Sterling, but not good for me as a fan.

          • Shelby is a Patriot says:

Shep going to the Pats would be the worst scenario for everyone else in the NFL. I would think teams would work together to make sure it doesn’t happen. Lol

          • Jim Casy says:

For real. If he went there I would put him second in line for offensive rookie of the year behind Zeke.

          • Shelby is a Patriot says:

I can’t wait to see what Zeke does in Dallas. I’ve got a lot of Dallas Cowboys fans in my family so I cheer for them on the side. They’re all very excited.

          • Jim Casy says:

If DMC can go from 3 ypc with the Raiders to 5th in the league total rushing without being a regular starter all year with Cowboys, then Zeke should go all Murray on everyone if he stays healthy.

          • KJ1123 says:

I’ll be picking him up in Fantasy Football for sure.

    • SoonerinLondon says:

Julio and Sterling? Good luck rest of the NFC South.

    • lefty67 says:

I’m selfishly hoping he lasts 5 more picks after that. I think he’d have a lot of fun roaming around on the other side of A.J. Green while Eifert is busy dragging safeties deep down the seam.

Serious chatter on Twitter of a commitment today?? Mixon, Riley, etc.

  • Jim Casy says:

I’ve been to some pretty crazy parties in my life, but yesterday was the first time I’ve ever seen a guy hitting a bong while wearing a gas mask.

    • cush creekmont says:

A lot of things happened before the last couple of generation came along – 1971 was when I first saw weed smoked through a pipe-to-hose-to-gas mask.

      • Jim Casy says:

I guess maybe technique/paraphernalia is cyclical like fashion and the pipe to gas mask system skipped my generation and then made a comeback.

        • j l says:

Did it around 2000/2001. One of my friends went to an old army surplus store and picked one up.

LSU is notorious for wasting WR talent in their offense.

I’d expect their experiment with Lamb to go a little something like this:

Depends on definition of waste. They may not get college stats, but they get pro money.

I’d like to think that recruits want the best of both worlds. But hey, to each their own.

You see, at Texsa he DIDN’T cheat, but at Bama before and after Texsa, he DID cheat.

That’s because Texsa is perfect in every way and never cheats. Everything is BIGGER there too.

Henry to Titans, I hope he gets broke in half.

  • Fear The Magic says:

Ok Ok I know you guys arent too happy about the Giants getting Shep but Im SOOOOOOO HAPPPYYYYY Big NY Giants fan here!
On a good note for Shep with Beckham and Cruz on the field with Shep he’ll never get double covered and he’ll absolutely kill it in NY.

    • Sooner Ray says:

It very well could be a great situation for him.

      • Fear The Magic says:

Its really the perfect situation for him. The Giants know this and thats why they took him.

    • Rick says:

Will he most likely play from the slot, or outside in NY? I don’t know anything about that team.

      • Fear The Magic says:

They’ll probably shift Cruz and Shep one playing slot one outside and keep Beckham outside.
We know Shep can play both and so can Cruz.

  • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Where’s Zach, Strike, Bond, Tap going?

    • Fear The Magic says:

Giants , Giants, Giants and probably Giants.

        Its mine,thanks.

        • Boom says:

I’m in a 18 month plan with mine as we just started a couple of months ago. Can’t wait.

          • metzker says:

That was at car show depot district last year, what are you building?

          • Boom says:

69 RS SS. Could be done sooner but I want to learn more on how to work on them. Never grew up doing that as I was always working in other business for our family. Now that I’m older, I want to learn. Taking it down and doing full resto. I want it to be a pro touring or pro daily driver as I want to drive it and not show it.

          • metzker says:

            Saweeettttttttttt loves the 69

          • Boom says:

Having some things changed on it. Check out all speed customs fab work on some of their 69’s they build. No fake fender cut outs, making real ones behind front wheels and before back wheels. I’m a rookie, guys give me a hard time. I’ve softened them up a little due to a few happy hours. : )

          • metzker says:

            who builds?

          • Boom says:

Guys here in Houston. They are an older group of guys who specialize in just camaros. They don’t have a store front, just referral. A friend of mine turned me on to them. Interesting, instead of me interviewing them, they interviewed me. Subbing some stuff out like paint & interior. They are car guys but they also had successful jobs which enabled they to retire early. This is their hobby and passion and a place to get away. Matter of fact, they don’t have a store front cause they don’t want it to turn into a job.

          • metzker says:

Nice thats a dream come true.

          • Boom says:

Now that I’ve gotten to know them, we have a lot of friends in common. That’s why they interviewed me. They love the fact that I don’t mind getting dirty and came from a small town. I love it too and enjoying making new friends. Also, they take the time to educate me on this stuff. That’s why it will take longer. They make their own hours. : )

    • metzker says:

      Whatttt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Sooner Ray says:

I don’t think we were even in play for him, wait and see what happens down the road.

  • Tipman says:

Does anyone know where Baker is projected to be drafted next year? Did he ask for a grade last year? I saw this from Kiper which was posted in the fall of last year:

    1. *Paxton Lynch, Memphis

    2. *Jared Goff, California

    3. Carson Wentz, North Dakota St.

    4. Connor Cook, Michigan St.

    5. *Christian Hackenberg, Penn St.

    6. Dak Prescott, Mississippi St.

    7. *Baker Mayfield, Oklahoma

    8. Cody Kessler, USC

    9. Brandon Doughty, Western Kentucky

    10. Trevone Boykin, TCU

    • eastoksooner says:

Jerry is an idiot. Always has been, always will be. The ‘Boys are my team but it hurts to watch him draft players sometimes.

      • Hotrod33 says:

I agree with you. I’m a ‘Boys fan also. When I saw they drafted Elliot in the first round, idiot came to mind. They have more pressing needs than rb. I just couldn’t believe it. Need defense more than a rb. I think Elliot is good but JJ could’ve waited til the later rounds to get a decent rb.

        • OceanDescender says:

I don’t know. Look at the Cowboys in 2014 and then in 2015 and the difference to me is having a great RB (Romo’s millionth injury was a factor too though).

          • Hotrod33 says:

Don’t get me wrong we do need a rb but we could of took one in maybe the 3rd or 4th round. There are some decent backs out there. They need defense more than anything. I like that they took a qb later in the draft and hope they let him develop for a couple of seasons.

          • OceanDescender says:

I also like taking Prescott to hopefully take over for Romo. I actually kinda liked the Cowboys’ defensive picks too; I know the linebacker won’t be able to play for a bit but I still think he’s going to be a stud. Tapper and the Nebraska Dlineman should help with the suspensions and then be solid depth.

      • Tboneathome says:

Jimmy Johnson was jerrahs last good acquisition.

      • StL Sooner says:

Can’t believe Striker didn’t get drafted. He is going to enter a camp with a serious attitude. Can’t wait to see him prove people wrong.

    • Zack says:

He’s one of those guys that just needs a chance. Sure his measurables and his lackluster showing in the underwear Olympics but his tape doesn’t lie.

  • SoonerinLondon says:

For Striker, too small and slow, unfortunately.
Hopefully he can land a spot using his intelligence and wits.

  • rphokc says:

re alexander………before he decided to leave early, was he hearing that he had a good shot at a decent draft………..anyone remember

    • blaster1371 says:

The orginzatio. They file with said he would be fourth to sixth round selection based on team needs and the pool of draftees. I remember everyone saying on here that it was a rather high evaluation.

      • SoonerinLondon says:

The strength issue is hurting him. He’s so smart and so good at being where he needs to be that it really is a shame he doesn’t have the strength to stone the ball carrier when he gets there.

Hopefully, he can get into the right system that will allow him to play to his skills.

Thought I would give you guys an update since I know some of you have been praying for us.

Along with a number of friends from church we were able to get moved into an apartment in town. Still lots of boxes to unpack but we are at least moved in.

My wife is in the rehab hospital and will be there for probably another week. At least with us being in town now she is about a mile from the hospital and ten minutes from work so I can more easily deal with issues when the come up.

Thanks for all your prayers and well wishes.
