2017 WR Ceedee Lamb Decommits From Oklahoma

Even after 2017 WR Ceedee Lamb committed to Oklahoma, the possibility was always kind of hanging out there of a possible decommit. And Lamb ended any speculation Friday morning when he officially made the announcement via his Twitter.

LSU was always a legit threat once they offered, and even though Lamb had said and done all the right things since you still just kind of had a feeling this was coming. Either way, it’s certainly a disappointing development for Oklahoma, but one we suspect they had to know was probably coming.

Omar Manning the obvious number 1 replacement all things considered right now?

  • Stephen says:

    Saw this one coming.

  • Legend03 says:

Any chance they asked him to look elsewhere if there are other options they like more?

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

Not like this wasn’t forseen by his previous statements.

    • CcrBoomer says:

I agree. Once he made those statements, i already considered him as a placeholder until we found his replacement.. I don’t think this staff was to surprised or worried about it.

  • Sooner Ray says:

    Next man up.

  • Scott says:

    James Robinson let’s go , #SoonerSquad17

  • ccmosaic says:

I honestly thought he would stick. Too bad I think he will be a real good one but, I do believe OU will be ok without him.

    • Slim Sooner says:

We will be ok, but I thought #SoonerSquad17 would keep him in the fold despite the skepticism by some that he’d stick. He may regret this decision, maybe not. Wish him luck wherever he ends up after all the visits he’s so anxious to take. Understandable for a kid, but I really love the ones that just know they belong HERE and don’t need to look elsewhere. That’s Boomer Sooner to the bone.

  • Dick Bump says:

It’s early. He was a nice receiver, but with all the pass first offenses in high school these days, there are a lot of great receivers. I wish him well wherever he ends up. The Sooners will win with him or without him.

  • hOUligan says:

Always had the feeling Tylan Wallace was OU’s and only committed to lil Osu when OU filled up at WR. That door might open, again. Also, wonder if the coaches hit on Rison, again.

    • Scott says:

I’m a big fan of Tylan. We have plenty of options at WR , James Robinson , Joseph Lewis , Omar Manning.

  • Jeff says:

Told you suckas, should have taken ban moon II

  • Matt says:

is he still open to OU after he explores other options?

    • Jordan Esco says:

Possibly, but it’s kind of rare that a kid decommits then winds back up w/ that same school

  • wolfbuilder says:

Would think top 2 wr r Omar Manning and Jhamon Ausbon, if we r still recruiting Ausbon. Any thoughts jordan or K

  • metzker says:

Well that sucks. But not as bad as texsa!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • J.r. Kamm says:

Best of luck to the young man. Next!

  • Framoka says:

Some players want the SEC experience; and the pay is better. Just kidding; not surprised and good luck to him. Its his life and he should do what he and his family think is best for him.JR KAMM got…NEXT UP!!

    • Ura Hogg says:

If he chooses Ole Mi$$ the pay will be better. Not sure if the Mad Hatter at LSU follows that same incentive-based approach or not though.

    • Rene Goupillaud says:

Most receivers who went to LSU wish they hadn’t. No Qb and s coach who pounds the rock over airing it out.

  • ALar03 says:

    Sadly knew it was coming

  • SoonerinLondon says:

    Bad Moon Jr an option?

  • BigJoeBrown says:

Overall not surprised, if that even makes sense.

  • Steve-O says:

Anyone know whether Rison would have been ours if we wanted a month ago? Two scholarships have opened up since we (or he) broke off that recruitment.

    • Mark_in_VA says:

From the outside, it appears Rison was told the train was full and that’s why he didn’t visit, at which point he almost certainly would have committed. To me, that’s the worst part about this. I love getting guys to OU who want OU. Not just a ‘ship. Rison pretty clearly was high on OU, and we popped his balloon.

  • Carl Carter says:

    Omar. Manning.

  • KJ1123 says:

Not surprised like everyone else, obviously gotta account for attrition with early commits. His scholly offer will be filled, so he most likely won’t be back even if he wants to.

    • Ura Hogg says:

Nope, there won’t be a spot left for him to waffle back and forth, not with the quality of receivers already committed and those to be pursued.

  • Sam Philbeck says:

OU still recruiting Trey Blount from GA or is the top choices Manning, Ausbon, and Robinson?

  • Swanny says:

    This was Wednesday:

  • Chris White says:

I knew from his commitment tweet he was going to jump to different schools before ending up at OU in the end.

  • Mark_in_VA says:

This makes the Rison decision very, very painful. Pretty clear he wanted to be at OU.

  • C.A. says:

I had said he was going to decommit all along. Wish nothing but the best for him but it just didn’t feel solid from the get go. But we’re freaking OU we always bounce back.

  • Jason Vos says:

If we can get Omar Manning, I know there will be no more decommits from the WR position because all three WR commits are very close friends.

Had to figure it was just a matter of time and I’m glad he pulled the trigger now. Beat of luck to the kid now let’s go find ourselves a kid that wants to be a Sooner. Have a great Friday and I’m really hoping my Packers pull the trigger on a Sooner in the next 2 days…

    • Ura Hogg says:

Agree. If he’s going somewhere else, let it be known early rather than late. We thank him for that at least.

  • bigrackhunter says:

Best of luck to the kid….. Time to move on, which appears to be the reason for the recent wr offer Josh Moore.

  • SooperDave says:

And I was such of fan.

  • SoonerGray says:

I’d love to get the scoop on this decision….like how does this make sense for the young man? SoonerSquad17 is absolutely LIT….OU offense is perfect for a possession type receiver…QBs on campus and commits that will keep the ball in the air for years to come….Final 4 and tee’d up for another run….9 Big XII championships (should rename it the Sooner League)….I just don’t get it? What is the option away that is so much more appealing?

    • SooperDave says:

Maybe he got the sales pitch from LSU’s coaches about the amount of productive receivers from each school in the NFL.

      • SoonerGray says:

Fair point I guess. Hard to argue with the 4 starting WRs in the NFL and one superstar. Landry is going to be really good, too.

    • Rick says:

Don’t get me wrong, I was NEVER good enough to play at OU, but…..if I had been born with a talent colored spoon in my mouth. The only school I would have considered at the time was OU. It’s not a logical decision for him to play for a school that is playing for the middle of the pack title of their division, or a coach that is barely holding onto his job, and who only throws the ball if there is no other way. The only way I can see him leaving the best choice for his future is if he was always a LSU fan, and when the offer came…..

  • Zack says:

    Shocker.

  • soonersd says:

    Good luck to the kid

Now give me a #BOOM today and I will conveniently forget Lamb was ever even committed to us

  • hushnpa says:

Yeah it is a bit disappointing on the front end but there are several WR prospects that still are High on OU so not worried about this WR recruiting class at all! I wish the young man the best and thank him for not waiting till January of next year!

  • Slim Sooner says:

Hint he may not have been DNA tested: “Oklahoma University”. Good luck to him.

  • D Hunter Sanchez says:

There are still a number of top 300 wrs uncommitted, get back to work coaches.

  • Roy C says:

So we had a young man not visit because we were full at wide receiver and committed elsewhere, I personally hope we pull the offer

  • OohRah Mama says:

Best of luck to the young man. Hope he finds the right school and program, though I’m pretty sure he already has [cough]Les[/cough]. We’ll get a more-than-suitable replacement and it will all be fine for both schools. He needs to be happy.

  • cheezyq says:

I wish they’d stop using the word “commit” in the recruiting process anymore. I know they’re just kids, but it’s very annoying that kids “commit” to something, and then de-commit under the circumstances of “I just want to make sure this is the right school for me…” or something similar. There’s nothing about this process that makes “commit” the right word.

I wish him well, for sure, but I’d rather see kids like this take their time, especially if he knows he’s got another potential offer that he’s been eyeing. He’s got over a year before he’d play at any school, and almost a full year before he’s even required to commit to anything. There’s no rush for a 4-5 star kid. A 2-3 star kid, I can understand just taking the best thing that comes along. But kids like this just need to wait until they KNOW they got what they want instead of stringing people along.

Rant over…I hope the kid does well wherever he goes…well, except if it leads him to LSU. Then he can suck it. (j/k)
