Latest on Baker Mayfield’s Appeal

I know we’re all hoping Mayfield wins his appeal and is granted immediate eligibility so I wanted to let y’all know what I’m hearing.

– I was told that Mayfield had a hearing yesterday but a judgement has not yet been issued.

– I asked my source if there was any word on when a judgement might come down and he said that it “seems like they are dragging their feet” (just my sources opinion). Source told me that every time Mayfield has a hearing they’ve expected a judgement but the decision just doesn’t come.

    F**king NCAA!

This is ridiculous. The facts in question are very much not hard. The rules are not difficult to interpret. They’ve had months to make up their minds. There can be no explanation other than nefarious purpose to explain the delay. This was a five minute decision…..six months ago.

Although this may not turn out the way we want, the time factor is a good thing. Saying “no” does not take very long. Obviously there is something to think about. The rules are NOT in Mayfield’s favor. The courts might be. So, the NCAA has to weigh that out carefully before handing down a judgment that opens up a lawsuit. I don’t think DGB, Shannon, or Mixon will figure into this one bit. However, recent player supporting decisions should be a huge factor in his favor. Since the repercussions is a lost year, the player suffers.

I think facts and rules were left behind long ago. I my mind it is nothing but politics at this point.

It’s amazing how fast the NCAA works on some teams and not others. Ala Manziel on getting paid for signatures. NCAA quickly made a decision and Manziel didn’t lose one play of time. However, when it comes to Oklahoma, it seems to “hang” out there for awhile. I’m not a basher of the NCAA but I find it interesting how some teams get the fast lane and others stand in line.

Absolutely HATE the NCAA, but in fairness, we’ve benefited from one with Jalen. The headache/migraine stuff was funny

Is it possible for Mayfield to burn a Redshirt this year if he’s not eligible? That would make him a Soph next year and get a year separation from Knight.

My understanding is if the NCAA denies his appeal, he has to lose a year of eligibility this year. Now, if he is ruled eligible, and doesn’t play, I would think that would be a redshirt year. If that makes sense.

It seems to me the NCAA wants to say yes to this appeal, but doesn’t want to set a precedent and then get inundated with requests.

Someone help me out here. I thought I read somewhere that if Baker Mayfield is granted eligibility from the NCAA that he still had to appeal to the Big XII for eligibility. Is that correct, or does a win from the NCAA give him immediate eligibility to play?

Wasn’t there a kid from the Pac12 that was just recently granted immediate eligibility from the NCAA after transferring in conference? I think he transferred from Cal to Oregon? He initially was deemed ineligible for the 2014 and 2015 seasons because of the in conference transfer. He appealed and the NCAA granted him a reprieve and took away the 2015 ban. He then appealed again and won immediate eligibility. I remember when I read that I thought Mayfield shouldn’t have any problems with his appeal.

This all interesting. I know there for a while they thought Baker would be eligible by WVU game. Obviously, that’s not looking like the case anymore.

So hoping that we take care of business vs Tech this year because of this especially- even better if the NCAA deems Baker eligible and he gets a little PT against them and, ideally, runs it up on them a bit.

Thanks for the post K. Really hoping this situation works out….seems like we haven’t had any luck at all yet when it comes to getting players in limbo cleared to play. This one seems especially important though since we just don’t seem to have a legitimate backup qb ready to go without pulling Bell and rearranging the offense somewhat. Here’s hoping this gets resolved quickly.
