– Tre Jackson: Oklahoma offered 2016 CB Tre Jackson (5’10” 178 – Baon Rouge, LA) on Thursday night, although the Sooners have been in contact with Jackson for a little while now. We spoke with Jackson last night, who said Kerry Cooks let him know the OU staff had been reviewing and discussing his film lately and collectively decided to extend the offer. Jackson said he was very excited about the offer and that he’s planning to visit OU later this summer with his father.

We’ve talked a lot about the fact that Cooks is looking to add more speed to the OU secondary and Jackson would certainly do that. At one of recent the Nike regional combines, Jackson posted a 4.49 laser 40 and 4.12 shuttle, which is incredibly impressive and gives you an idea of the kind of short area burst he possesses. But he also posted a 40.7 inch vertical which, was the best jump measured by anyone at any of SPARQ events in the nation.

This is a young man who clearly has tremendous burst and quickness, but also great long speed as well. In short, you’d be really hard pressed to find a more athletic cornerback. – (Super K)

– Teton Saltes: You may recall we told you earlier in the week about Mike Stoops making the trip out to New Mexico to visit with the 2016 DE. Saltes’ name is really starting to make the rounds on the recruiting scene as he has picked up offers from a number of schools. He could easily wind up being this year’s Neville Gallimore.

This is just a young man with tremendous upside and in talking with his high school coach, it’s clear that everyone who comes through the school has been thoroughly impressed.

What many people may not be aware of, however, is that Saltes has an interesting tie to the state of Oklahoma. His mother was actually born and raised in Oklahoma. And, as I believe we told you previously, they still have extended family in the state so Saltes has made numerous trips to Oklahoma to visit them. Saltes has visited the state on numerous occasions.

Mike Stoops has not yet extended an offer, but after the two met earlier this week Saltes told TFB he’s under the impression one could be coming. But for now it sounds like he is content to continue building relationships with those coaches who have offered.

Growing up as a basketball player and having two parents, one of whom played at the college level, Saltes and his family don’t seem particularly concerned or enamored by the big name programs like Oregon, Oklahoma, Alabama or Ohio State. Like Gallimore, it seems to be much more so about the relationships they forge with the coaches. – (Super K)

– Kellen Diesch: Alex and I spoke to a couple different sources regarding Kellen Diesch’s recruitment. Diesch, as many of you will recall, is the ultra talented 2016 offensive tackle out of Texas whose family is originally from Oklahoma. Diesch actually told Rivals’ Jason Howell in a previous interview that he and his family grew up OU fans. A lot of people felt that shortly after releasing a list of his tops schools (which included Oklahoma, of course) Diesch would commit. However, that obviously did not happen.

So we reached out to a couple people to try and get a feel for where things currently stand. Alex’s source told him that the word around school is that it looked like OU was the school to beat, but as of late Arkansas seems to have made a big push. My source told me something similar, saying that Arkansas may in fact even be his leader at the moment.

Other than an occasional text, we haven’t had much communication with Diesch. So we haven’t been able to get a strong sense one way or another directly from him, but whatever the case may be the sentiment seems to be it’s an OU & Arkansas battle right now. – (Alex & Super K)

– Walker Little: Oklahoma recently offered 2017 offensive lineman Walker Little (6’7″ 295 – Bellaire, TX), who is teammates with a couple other 2017 stars in DT Marvin Wilson (who OU has offered) and WR Jhamon Ausbon (who holds one FBS offer and should have plenty more soon).

I asked Walker about the Sooners offer and he said, “I’ve liked OU since I was little.” He has a camp schedule set which includes Ole Miss, Texas (offered), Baylor, Stanford and Alabama but said now that OU has offered “I’ll definitely be trying to get up there (to Norman) sometime soon.” – (Brandon)

– Matt Hegarty: Some of you may recall the Notre Dame offensive lineman announced a few months back that he’d be transferring. Hegarty received a considerable amount of playing time for the Irish, and a couple months back Brandon reported that Hegarty was planning to visit three schools, OU among them. We’ve since been told that visit did in fact take place, but clearly there has been little in the way of news in some time.

So we started to do some digging and learned that Hegarty actually had plans to make a return visit to Norman this weekend. However, we’ve now been told the trip has been postponed, at least for now.

Our source was not able to confirm the exact reasons for the visit not happening, but believes that weather — some are predicting the chance of severe storms, again, in the area this weekend — could have easily played a role. Our source also added there is at least an expectation the visit will be rescheduled. – (Super K)

– Nick Harvey: We told you last week about Harvey having visited Norman as he continues to consider transferring from Texas A&M. In speaking with some people familiar with Harvey’s situation, we’ve been told that assuming his release is granted the Sooners will be a strong candidate to land him. Oklahoma recruited Harvey out of high school and from what we’ve been told, he is still fond of the Sooners as a result. It’s certainly not a done deal at the moment, but it is starting to look more and more like a strong possibility of happening. – (Alex)

– Lagaryonn Carson: Oklahoma stopped by Texarkana this weekend and visited stud 2017 DE Largaryonn Carson and the Sooners officially extended an offer to Carson on Thursday. Carson told TFB he has plans to visit a number of schools this summer and has a particular interest in OU. His mother actually lives in Oklahoma so it was clear in talking to him the OU offer was one he very much wanted. – (Super K)

– Alan Ali: 2017 offensive lineman Alan Ali (6’5″ 270 – Fort Worth, TX) let us know that Oklahoma stopped by to see him last week. Alex came across his film recently and he’s a guy we expect we garner a lot more attention moving forward. – (Super K)

– UPDATE (Fri., 11:21 am): Texas A&M has reportedly offered 2016 OU commit Adrian Hardy.

– UPDATE (Fri., 4:38 pm): One-time OU target, Bo Wallace, will be heading to the desert and joining a former Sooners assistant (Jackie Shipp).

I may have missed it somewhere, but has there been any rumblings about Shannon?

    • Jordan Esco says:

      In terms of…?

      • KJ1123 says:

I think the last thing I saw was that May was when he would be done serving his suspension and would be able to come back to the team. Just wondering if that was still the deal.

        • Jordan Esco says:

As far as anyone is aware, I believe that is still the case.

        • JD says:

After semester the guys get to go home for a break..I think they come back in early June…This wouldn’t be something OU would make a special announcement about…we might have to pick up something on twitter or wait for TFB or others to hear from a source…I wouldn’t expect to hear anything until june at the earliest

          • Bob Edwards says:

You are likely correct. Given the nature of why he was suspended I would think they would not want to draw attention to him coming back. It does not do him or the program any good to have it discussed again.

    • Mysterio1 says:

I’ll believe he’s back when I see him in uniform.

      • Jordan Esco says:

I’d even settle for some type of quote from him or somebody close to him confirming what Stoops has been saying. I mean I suppose we have no reason not to believe Bob, but I’m kind of like you in that until he’s actually back I remain at least a little skeptical.

And it gets interesting if he does come back b/c IMO he’s not taking J.Evans off the field. So if OU is really going to more of this 4-2-5, that obv leaves just one LB spot available. So is Shannon going to bump D.Alexander to the bench? Maybe. But the coaches seem to be overtly loyal to Alexander, IMO. And, frankly, I’ve never really been all that impressed with his play, regardless of how many tackles he puts up that people love to point at.

        • JD says:

I think Alexander may even get passed by Tay ..even Bolton…both have caught up with him physically because of his injury and they both got a ton of reps this spring with him out…he may still be ahead but they surely closed the gap…With Shannon, he was suppose to be reinstated after the semester ended…I doubt they would make an announcement and the guys went home and return in a few weeks

          • Jordan Esco says:

I don’t disagree, but the coaches seem to play favorites in the past w/ guys like Alexander. Maybe that changes now that it’s Kish/M.Stoops over LBs, but I’ll have to see it first.

  • Fear The Magic says:

I wish I knew why the slow play on Saltes. The kid looks to have tons of talent and our history on recruits we slow play isnt exactly stellar. I know that MStoops just visited him last week but an on the spot offer could have gone a long way.

  • kokevo says:

Do you think the a&m offer could be bad news?

    • Zack says:

No but I also never thought we would hang on to him from the start. I think for him OU is a place holder and I don’t see elite when I watch his highlights.

      • kokevo says:

Im not trying to be a smarta## but after the season ou just had this is the type of athlete you get.

        • Zack says:

Maybe I’m thinking of a different kid but I thought hardy was playing QB for his hs but projects as a WR in college? I don’t exactly like recruiting guys who play out of position.

However I do like guys who commit on the spot and he did not hesitate so maybe you’re right that he’s a guy you want

          • Boom says:

I agree. However, it seems like Stoops best players played in different positions before OU. Savage was a QB and Jamal Brown was a DT for starters. TCU is the best at this. They like to recruit QB’s who can play LB or S due to their leadership and overall athletic ability.

          • Zack says:

That’s true maybe he can have success too but right now I don’t see it. Maybe safety though

          • Zack says:

But after going back and watching his highlights I guess I have to realize it’s hard to picture him as a complete wr when he plays qb. My point being when he’s playing qb he’s got at least 9 guys watching him. At wr he would have 2 or 3 at most. I’m sure he would look better if he had reps at wr on film

  • rphokc says:

esco…….although we haven’t seen the o in action, is the air raid considered a +/- for attracting quality olinemen………I can see the arky attraction bc they emphasize the run……we’ve lost a few to them in the last couple of yrs, if not mistaken

    • Jordan Esco says:

Not to avoid answering your question, but I think it really just depends on the kid. My assumption is based on what we’ve seen from Bedenbaugh thus far, he’ll still have success with top kids and develop them when they get to campus.

But ultimately, especially w/ a position like OL but really any just in general, I think your success in recruiting will really come down to putting guys in the league. And from that standpoint, I don’t think an ‘Air Raid’ offense will hurt OU.

  • Finney56 says:

Could y’all give me any news on a kid named Noah Spears out of Nimitz HS in Irving, TX? He’s visited Tech and seems to be a pretty great ILB

  • Jordan says:

One thing I will say about Walker Little:
I went to a private school in Texas and played football. In Texas, the private schools have two leagues, neither of which involve other public schools. The school that Little goes to Is in the Southwestern Prep Conference, which is the lower of the two leagues. The competition he plays against is very sub par. He dominates, which is obviously good, but he is probably only going to play one or two good defensive lineman a year. Jus thought I would mention that.

    • BigJoeBrown says:

Is that the same conference that Casady(OK) is in, Southwest Prepatory Conference? In Oklahoma would they be class 2A?

      • Jordan says:

Yes it is. They play schools mostly in the Houston area. They would probably be a 2 or 3A in Texas as well

  • David Raath says:

What the heck happened with Diesch? The guy is a lifelong Sooner fan, Hogs come in this late in game and turn him?
Also, hasn’t the knock on Nick Harvey been his size? Correct me if I’m wrong, but a 5’10 safety doesn’t seem to be a great fit for a 3-4.

    • Jordan Esco says:

We’ve been saying for a while now OU is moving towards more of a 4-2-5 than the 3-4 we’ve seen last couple years. But, to your point, 3-4 or 4-2-5, 5’10” safeties are generally less than ideal regardless. Maybe OU sees him as a corner. I believe that’s where he played for A&M (though I could be wrong on that, just seem to remember reading it somewhere).

    • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Darrell Green among others…point is talent is talent…

    • Jeff says:

It’s the loved OU as a kid curse!

  • rphokc says:

interesting ut sched…….in the 2 wks before dallas, they play the pukes at home and at tcu the week before ou

  • Jeff says:

How DB’s has OU offered 20??

  • Jason Argo says:

“I’ve liked OU since I was little.”
…but hasn’t he always been Little?

  • Jordan Esco says:

    update added

  • ccmosaic says:

Is it just me or does it seem like the OU program is slowly going down the toilet? I read a couple boards that I pay for and this one for sure none of the boards are posting anything of good news for OU. It really feels like we are settling on our 3rd or 4th choice and programs like ASU get a Bo Wallace. Heck Baylor right now has 6 of their 8 listed in the ESPN 300. We have 2.

  • LXXIV says:

It’s this way every year. Gloom and gloom! Wait until someone finds a new reason to hate Kish! : )

  • ccmosaic says:

That was a good one. Point taken. Just a lot of bad reading today I guess.

    • Bob Edwards says:

Remember that the time between spring ball and the start of fall practice most of what you are going to hear is negative; someone got arrested, someone got injured, someone decided to transfer, etc. That’s mainly because they aren’t playing ball right now or even practicing. Not much good to be had because there is nothing really going on but summer classes and lifting weight. There may be a commit here or there, but a lot of kids will make their evaluations during the summer and then commit right before the season starts. Most of the rest will wait until after they have taken the official visits or until after their season is over. The sum of all that being that you won’t hear much good this time of the year.

  • Bob Edwards says:

Wow. Men’s golf shoots 17 under to take a 22 stroke lead in the regional with one round left to play.

  • RBear says:

Awesome news for Q and the Sooner Nation… way to go Q!!!

  • Jed says:

No doubt! Well done Q! You’re set for the greatest adventure so far in your life. Grab the whole college experience with both hands.

  • Booooom says:

Out of curiosity, what is the ACT requirement for athletes? I needed a 24 minimum to get accepted. I also have some friends who were being recruited by some Ivy League schools but couldn’t qualify academically. Do some schools lower the bar more than others?

    • Brad Warren says:

There are several contributing factors. I was unable to find a defined act number for admittance. I was a very good student and had a 3.5 gpa throughout high school. However, I didn’t prepare at all for act and honestly found it tough to just show up and “wing it”…I had a 21. 19 isn’t bad and I’m proud of the young man for his hard work.

      • RocketCitySooner says:

There doesn’t seem to be a fixed ACT required standard. The admissions page for OU simply says that grades are much more important that test scores and that you will be judged on your GPA relative to all other requests for admission.

Sure glad I attended OU back in the 60s’. Doesn’t look like I’d be allowed in now.

    • Austin says:

The average ACT score for incoming freshman at ou was a 23-29, but his gpa and other things will factor in to his acceptance more so than just one test score. I scored a 24 on the act this year but my sat was a couple points below the ou average. I also had a 3.8 gpa. I got my acceptance letter a few weeks ago.

  • EasTex says:

    Good job, Que!
I knew you would do it and I believe you will be a great Sooner because of your determination.

  • Andrew Sundborg says:

Great news about Que. As a former Trojan I love to see them do well everywhere, especially OU

    • soonerthunder says:

He’s a stud player. I look for very good things from him.

    • rphokc says:

YES!!………..he’s always wanted to be a Sooner and he is……..congrats
..just noticed on his tw acct that he also achieved state champ in wrestling

      • Andrew Sundborg says:

Yes he did. First heavyweight champion at Jenks since sometime in the 80s

  • hOUligan says:

Fantastic news about ‘Que’. Young man really wanted to be a Sooner and now it is happening. He will give it everything he has and I wish him the very best.

    • jonnyBgood says:

Amen! My buddy at work’s wife worked with Que at Jenks on academics and has been pulling for him big time. She said he is a heckuva kid and put all the work in to better himself and now here he is with a chance to shine. Congrats to the young man for stepping up to the challenge and I wish him nothing but success! Great news!

  • hOUligan says:

OU depth at OG is not great. There are bodies but not much experience. Hegarty could remedy that. He could come to OU and play this season and even challenge for starting at OG if he’s willing to move over. Would provide experienced depth at OC, too, but doubt the staff would move Darlington to OG to make room at OC.

    • soonerthunder says:

Last year I thought OG was the greatest position of depth on the entire team. This year, like you said, not so much. They might be good, but they certainly don’t have PT experience.

  • Brad Warren says:

    It’s just you.

  • Bob Edwards says:

I see some folks complaining about how we are not getting our first pick and we always have to make a bunch of offers. Let’s look at some number:

Last year we offered 159 players to get our 24 signees. That is only one signee for every 6.6 offers. Doesn’t sound that great right. How about Alabama? they had 214 offers to get 24 signees. That’s one signee out of every 8.9 offers. FSU 183 to get 20 one out of every 9.15. USC 120 to get 25 one out of every 4.8. Those are the top three schools in the rankings. So it looks like we actually do pretty well compared to others as far as getting the ones at the top of our lists.

Always good to put things into some context.

    • ToatsMcGoats says:

      Solid. Thanks, Mr. Edwards.

    • AmaGoh7 says:

Just give me talent (OU will ALWAYS get talent) and mind – set (guys who want to be here, who don’t care who gets the credit, who are willing to enjoy the price to be paid, who are coachable, etc.) no matter how many stars (yes, I’ve seen all the debates about star rankings) or when they are offered.

      • Stephen Dale says:

THE question is about getting ‘elite talent”….schools closer to a larger pool of talent ( USC, tOSU, Ala., etc ) usually sign a higher percentage of quality talent regardless of the number of offers issued while schools located in more sparsely populated areas generally sign lesser regarded talent ( think little 12-2 in general )…………..

    • John Garner says:

Where did you find those facts and figures? Good work. Thanx!

  • Chris White says:

I don’t care about offers or what teams have who, only numbers that matter are championships and draft picks which we are superior in both.

  • Jeff says:

A 19 to get into college?

      Too funny!
I watched that video last night. LOL!
So TMc, when should the player number count down begin this year, 99 days out?

    • Zack says:

It’s funny how the guy from fsn (was it gus Johnson?) really wanted people to believe his nickname is the tank. Nah Optimus perine

      • Steve Cooke says:

Toby calls him Tonka, as in the toy truck for you young’ns.

        • Zack says:

I like that. I’m young but I remember those I wish I would have kept them. I had to buy new ones for my son

    • jonnyBgood says:

If you watch that and don’t smile the whole time you have issues. This kid is SPECIAL and I can’t wait to see what he and Mix are going to do this upcoming season. Humble, hard working kid with abilities well beyond his years. We are truly blessed to get to call him OUr own. Boomer!

  • EasTex says:

    SOONER!

  • EasTex says:

I didn’t see it mentioned on here, that DT Mastephon Taylor was offered. Ranked at 3 stars, but every major school has offered and based on his video alone I don’t care what they say this kid is a player.

Nice win for girls softball. Walkoff two run HR.

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

So since Keith Ford is transferring does anyone know if they will go after 2 RBs? If so who might the second one be?

    • BoomerDave says:

Can’t think that they would take 2. Anderson is going to be a stud. Ross for 2 more years and Mixon and Perrine for at least 2, perhaps 3 more years(4 in the case of Mixon).

    • Zack says:

I think it depends on who the 2 are. If they get Whaley then I think they’re done unless they find another scat back type kid like brooks. But I don’t think we would land 2 highly touted guys like perine and mixon in the same year

    • Stephen says:

I could see them exploring their options while the recruiting season is still young in this but in the end I think they grab a single stud RB and call it good.

  • blaster1371 says:

Great news about Overton!!!! Has anyone heard what school Ford is going to transfer to? I would think a person doesn’t leave unless they have a good idea where they are going.

I love Blake Griffin, great Sooner and hoop player. That said, I am an even bigger fan of James Harden. Still can’t believe the Thunder let him get away.
