Nick Harvey: Last Friday we noted that Texas A&M DB Nick Harvey recently visited Norman and may be considering a transfer. Alex was able to speak with a source close to Harvey, who offered some additional notes on the possibility of Harvey transferring.

The source did not confirm whether transfer papers have or have not been signed, but did say the transfer appeared likely. The source also noted the two most likely destinations for a transfer would be Oklahoma or Tulsa.

The reason for the interest in Tulsa is because Harvey’s former high school coach is currently on the Golden Hurricane’s staff and, of course, a starting spot would (presumably) be almost guaranteed. – (Alex & Super K)

Keith Ford: Speaking of transfers, we have also spoken with someone close to Ford and it appears a final decision has been made with regards to his future at OU. We have been asked not to release that decision and will respect the request not to do so, but we mention it because there should be something from Ford and his family announced this week. – (Super K)

McTelvin Agim: Before Jerry Montgomery departed Norman for the NFL, 2016 defensive lineman McTelvin Agim was very high on the Sooners. It remains to be seen now whether that same interest can be recaptured, but it certainly won’t be for a lack of effort. Diron Reynolds recently stopped by to see Agim, who said that he has been speaking with Reynolds regularly and that the OU d-line coach has been encouraging him to visit Norman this summer. Agim said he might indeed make that trip and is also considering whether or not to use one of his five official visits to see Oklahoma in the fall.

Nothing guaranteed there but it’s nice to see Reynolds continue working to lay the foundation for his own recruiting success. – (Brandon)

JC Chalk: We’ve been quietly waiting to see if OU would look to take a tight end in this 2016 class, and wouldn’t you know it the Sooners recently extended an offer to Clemson commit J.C. Chalk (6’3″ 221 – Argyle, TX). Despite the OU offer, however, when TFB spoke with Chalk he made it clear he was still a firm Clemson commit. He speak highly of the Sooners saying, “I think it’s a great school with lots of great history…lots of people from my high school ended up going there and they love it.” – (Brandon)

Markell Utsey: For folks that believe there is a limited amount of talent in this part of the country, here is another example of why that isn’t necessarily the case. Markell Utsey (6’4″ 290 – Little Rock, AR) is another example of one of several defensive linemen available in the east Oklahoma/west Arkansas area.

Utsey is already a big kid with great quickness off the ball, who does a good job of firing low out of stance and using his hands effectively to disengage from blocks. He doesn’t always play with the best pad level and could use his hands better at times on his initial contact, but all those are things that can be taught. What you can’t teach is Utsey’s size and athleticism. In addition to be an excellent ball player, Utsey is also getting it done in the classroom.

However despite being a big, athletic guy with some pretty impressive film, Utsey is currently without a single scholarship offer. That said, the lack of offers is the farthest thing from an indicator as to his talents. Players like Utsey, in small(er) states like Arkansas, often go unnoticed until later in the recruiting process because there is an assumption by out-of-state programs that if there was any talent in Arkansas, the Razorbacks would have offered.

As such, small state talent often goes overlooked. But the reality is that not everyone sees a prospect the same way. What Arkansas may not like, another school may love due to personal preference, scheme, etc. Additionally, one has to consider the needs of a program. Arkansas currently has two defensive tackles already committed (in-state DT Austin Capps and Rummel DT Briston Guidry) and is likely waiting on a decision from McTelvin Agim, another in-state defensive tackle. In other words, they simply may not have a need at this point.

A couple weeks ago we introduced you to Texarkana, AR defensive tackle, Nick McCann. Since then McCann has seen interest pick up and recently received his first offer from Baylor. Texas Tech and Oklahoma also both stopped by in recent weeks to see McCann, who told us the Tech coaches let him know he should expect an offer shortly. All this from a player who, when we first looked at his Hudl tape, had somewhere around just 40 total views. But as a friend of mine who coaches at the FBS level says, “recruiting is a copy-cat game.”

I hope to have a post discussing more on local talent shortly (I know I’ve been promising it for a couple weeks and my apologies for the delay). – (Super K)

– UPDATE (1:52 pm): Sooners have offered standout 2017 LB Baron Browning (6’4″ 225 – Kennedale, TX).

– UPDATE (2:06 pm): A few other offers I thought were of note. OK Preps offensive tackle, Tyler Brown out of Lexington, OK picked up an Arizona State and TCU offer today. I can tell you that TCU is a school he really likes. Also Texarkana DT, Nick McCann who we mentioned above received an offer from Kansas today.

– UPDATE (3:11 pm): TFB has been able to confirm Oklahoma is at the high school of Teton Saltes, the talented New Mexico prospect we brought to your attention a couple weeks ago, today. We hope to have more in the way of details, specifically if an offer is made, and will be sure to pass along what we can, when we can.

– UPDATE (3:53 pm): Alright, bear with me here as I (Jordan) do my best to relay what K is texting to me regarding this OU/Saltes visit. First, it was (as expected) Mike Stoops that made the trip to New Mexico. There was no offer made in person, but Stoops is supposed to call Saltes later tonight at which point we believe there is a good chance an offer will be made at that time. And yes, that’s makes as little sense to me (again, Jordan) as I presume it does to you as well but if, at the end of the day, an offer is made I suppose it doesn’t really matter (assuming, of course, it doesn’t jeopardize your chances with this, or really any, prospect).

Interesting side note, however, if you read the our original story on Saltes linked above in the previous update, you know Saltes and his family have a strong basketball background. Well evidently during today’s visit, M.Stoops even went so far as to offer up the suggestion of Saltes having the opportunity to play both football and basketball for the Sooners.

Don’t have a good feeling about Ford being here much longer.
    First!
    Everybody have a great day.

  • Cole says:

I’m getting antsy waiting for summer to start so we can start seeing some of these kids visit Oklahoma. It’s just been so boring. Lol

  • Boom says:

With the moves of existing players and possible transfers, how many scholly’s do or will we have left from 2015. To me, it seems like 2 or 3 available.
Sorry to see Ford go and I wish him the best as he is a good back.

  • Indy_sooner says:

Attrition is part of the business. Ford was a good, humble kid ever since he committed and I hope he can rebound wherever he lands.

    • hOUligan says:

Agree. With some transfers you just shrug and wish them well. This one stings. Good kid by most accounts, and a good fb player. And wanted to be a Sooner, like Sooner Dave.

      • Soonerfandave84 says:

Hope everything works out for him, he’s a good player and will end up playing on Sundays if he quits fumbling

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

Early morning OP, coffee, and no storms this day is looking up.

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

What’s up with the ten or so players that might be in trouble. Do we have any names?

  • Michael Brock says:

Safe to assume Kerry Cooks was his lead recruiter at Notre Dame?

OP on my birthday? Oh happy days!

  • lulzer says:

Keith Ford is transferring. Everybody in Headigton knows.

  • Boom says:

Great post as always. TFB threw out a nugget the other day about Bo Wallace. Curious, has there been any additional info out of Bo or from other sources regarding his situation.

    • Super K says:

Just heard that OU wasn’t a player for him bud.

      • Boom says:

My first reaction is that he didn’t want to come here. However, I wonder if we (OU) is focusing more on 2016 LB’ers. Either way, I enjoyed you guys bring him to our attention and thought he was a good player.

  • Thegunnfather says:

Ford was really good back, hate to see him leave, wish him well. Somebody’s football team is gonna get better when he shows up.

  • Defend Colfax says:

“For folks that believe there is a limited amount of talent in this part of the country,”

Are these people you speak of on the staff?

  • Daryl says:

First of all, I really hope that Ford is not leaving. I know there is a lot of talent in that backfield but Ford is part of that Talent. Just needs to hang on to the football and he could be just as good as those other guys in my opinion.

Second of all, love the local unknown athletes being talked about on here. I know that our coaches need to look coast to coast for the best talent. But I do believe there is something to getting guys that are local or lifetime fans of a school and the intensity and passion they bring. Lets get that passion and intensity in that locker-room

    • soonerthunder says:

I agree with you; I hope Ford stays. I guess we’ll find out soon. I think 90% of the time a player benefits from staying and not transferring out. I think Ford is good enough to play in the NFL, but I think he’s best chance is to stay at OU.

I think Riley is going to run a 2 back offense. He’ll put them in motion or line them out also. I think the offense is going to be easier to run out of–it won’t be as congested in the middle, and this especially, IMO, helps Ross (I think he’s a stud). But I can see Perine/Ford and Mixon/Ross/Flowers back there. A speed demon like Brooks is perfect for this offense, also.

  • Randy says:

I would love to see OU bring in all the Arkansas kids on the same weekend..

  • jmac says:

That Utsey kid just blows the OL up on initial contact. Lots to like. I even like the way he gets into his stance. 🙂

  • Cush Creekmont says:

Good luck and no hard feelings to any of the young men who transfer. My prejudice being that my Sooners are far and away the best, but life is full of changing circumstances. Maybe for them a new opportunity will open and for some other young men an opportunity to come to the Sooners will be available.

    • Indy_sooner says:

Meh. I know there are alot that don’t share this sentiment and for the optimists- God bless you, but this smells too Wariboko-ish

      • Boom says:

From his perspective, you have to respect why he made his decision to leave. However, with the way the team took on the issue and how they have bonded speaks volumes. Therefore, I’m sure he’s viewing this from both sides. Good for him and I hope he keeps the door open for OU. He’s a talent and would be a welcome addition to OU.

        • soonerthunder says:

I thought he’d already made it known he was opening recruiting back up, then when this SAE broke, he said it was b/c of that.

          • Boom says:

Either way it was a tough and confusing time especially for a 17 year old. I’m happy he has kept the communication with Coach B. I wish the best for him and hope he ends up at OU.

        • Indy_sooner says:

I don’t disagree. I do not question his motive, it is his choice to make. But we’ve been in this familiar road- we will produce NFL capable linemen, whoever we get.

    • Steve Cooke says:

Just my opinion but let him go somewhere else.

      • Tim A says:

Couldn’t agree more. We’ve been down this path already…..won’t go again.

      • BoomerDave says:

Not sure why an adult would say such a thing about a 17 year old kid, but whatever rocks your boat, I suppose. If Bedenbaugh still wants him and Delance still is showing interest in OU, I’m not sure why it upsets you so much that he committed very early and since has had second thoughts. Heck, half of our class this past season had committed to someone else before signing with us. That’s just the nature of the recruiting game now with coaches pressuring kids to commit earlier and earlier. I just don’t think these kind of comments are helpful when we know that the recruits read these boards.

        • Steve Cooke says:

Overreact much? I didn’t say anything bad about the kid did I. He decommitted citing that the sae vid convinced him he should. All he had to say was he committed to early & would like to remain open to his options. I think you need to take a Valium & come back tomorrow.

          • Steve Cooke says:

Oh by the way I said it to people on a blog not to the kid. Get a life.

          • BoomerDave says:

            Lol!!

          • lulzer says:

Give delance’s offer to Rowdy. Much better player and he would never decommit to look around.

Also, if you think kids read this website why are you saying OU is right not to offer Draper? You could hurt OU’s chances if they decide to offer the kid down the road. It seems you pick and choose who too support.

          • BoomerDave says:

Who’s overreacting now??? Lol!! You basically said, and others agreed, that you would prefer he just go elsewhere. That is the comment I felt was out of line due to the fact the he will probably read your comment. Obviously you think the comment was perfectly appropriate. We disagree. No need to get personal because I sure didn’t.

    • lulzer says:

Please stop reporting these idiotic “Top 10” narcissistic lists. Seriously, does anybody read those and get excited?

      • Stephen says:

LOL, it’s offseason and apart of recruiting, better just get use to it.

        • lulzer says:

I know, it drives me nuts.

          • Krys Allen says:

agreed, I might have a minute amount of interest if it was a top 3 or top 2… but come on, top 10? I saw one kid release a top 15!!! They are just milking it and its ridiculous.

      • Lane Gilstrap says:

I don’t have any problem with them reporting it. I’m certainly not excited with this considering this guy was committed then not now maybe we are in his top 10. I mean come on Jean let us know when your commitment is really final dude.

  • Cole says:

Does anyone know how many kids are invited to the elite 11 finals? I seen Austin Kendall didn’t get an invite and wonder how all that works. I though there were like 15-20 kids participating the opening last year.

    • SamSooner says:

Cole, I’m not certain but I seem to remember 12 QBs receive an invite to the elite 11.

  • Stephen says:

More impressed by Levi Draper’s film than Baron Browning’s, although he did miss substantial time.

    • Super K says:

Levi has great film and his size is excellent. Baron is excellent as well though. Baron played very little last yr due to injury but if you want to see how special he is…watch his freshman film. Played varsity as a freshman. Also clocked something in the 4.5s at an Arkansas camp which prompted the Hog offer. Having said all that, I’d offer both or at the very least be recruiting both pretty hard.

      • Stephen says:

The biggest problem I have (and I haven’t watched his freshman year tape like you suggested) is that he was making a lot of tackles from behind. Levi Draper just seems more complete at this point and thats why I’d personally pick him above Browning if I had choose one right now.

  • Jordan Esco says:

  • John Garner says:

Wow, still no offer for Draper.

    • Lane Gilstrap says:

      Kindof what I was thinking.

    • Brent says:

I think we’re slow playing him because we are in the top 5 for so many other top LB prospects. Not that I agree with it, but OU is waiting to see how the others pan out.

      • ccmosaic says:

It really is a stupid play. Do they assume these other offers are better kids? Why not take a 4 star kid out of your own back yard and then add a couple others from Texas and California?

        • Lane Gilstrap says:

Yes OU historically does better when we have more homegrown talent.

          • John Garner says:

Yep. Look at who has won the most national awards since Bob took over. Oklahoma kids.

      • JD says:

Not sure if you knew but Draper is for the 17 class

Anything on the possibly 10 in trouble?

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

Welp. Y’all have a good evening

  • hushnpa says:

Hey TFB Is it just me ? I can’t remember the last year I saw this much monster DT talent up for grabs in the prime OU recruiting area (mainly Texas Ok but also La. , Kansas, Missouri) ?
guess I ought to include AR

    • Boom says:

I think it’s more about coverage from TFB than anything else. Most of these kids don’t even have an offer or if they do it’s a small school. Before, we didn’t notice these guys until TFB shared their evals with us.

      • hushnpa says:

yea i can see that ,,
TFB has really become my only source on OU football recruiting though since I discovered them 🙂

    • Stephen says:

McTelvin Agim, Amani Bledsoe, or Xavier Kelly?
Some of the more notable DL prospects I can recall.

  • OceanDescender says:

A two sport star at OU would be fun.

  • ccmosaic says:

Ok, so we offer a stud lb out of Texas but, we do not offer the stud in our own back yard. What gives? I just do not understand why we slow play excellent Oklahoma kids.

    • BoomerDave says:

Perhaps our staff doesn’t think the in-state kid is as good as you think he is.

      • ccmosaic says:

Or most of the other schools that are recruiting him, including the Clemson D that kicked our arse

        • Boom says:

Agree. However all the big schools have talked to Levi like we have but they haven’t offered either. I hope OU does offer him soon so he doesn’t feel slow played.

        • BoomerDave says:

Has Clemson offered him??? I didn’t think so!

          • ccmosaic says:

He is an in state kid that is better than good. Why not try to wrap him up early? We should have been his first offer and we should be pushing hard for the kid so he feels the love. If we slow play him and Ohio State, Clemson, and all the SEC schools start to show more love and offers we could be in trouble for what may be the highest rated Oklahoma kid in the next class.

          • BoomerDave says:

You seem to know just how good he is. I don’t claim to have that kind of knowledge. I just think that if he is as awesome as you think, he’d have big time offers flooding in, but he doesn’t. So that leads me to believe that our coaches along with those from Clemson, Stanford, Michigan, and the other big tine programs that are looking, but not offering are seeing things about his play that are causing them to wait and see. This seems just like the McKinley Whitfield situation a year ago, where everyone on here was screaming for OU to offer before all of the big time programs discovered him. Guess what? He ended up at Tulsa.

          • Sooner Ray says:

I understand your angle. I’ve seen him plenty. Right now I say he’s got the goods but he still has two years to prove me wrong. He was getting attention in this part of the state before ever playing a down of varsity ball, and before TFB mentioned him, that doesn’t happen every year so it causes some excitement.

          • I can tell you this, Michigan, Vandy, Stanford, OSU and Arizona State will be visiting him next week. He us a sophomore with 8 offers already! Washington just offered him. You’re delusional if you don’t think that’s a great offer. How much you wanna bet half those I mention end up offering him? You keep attacking others that say offer the kid. I don’t get it.

          • I also want to say I’m a huge fan Levi’s game. When you’re closing in on double digit offers, with two years left to play, that’s impressive. If you don’t get that, that’s fine. We can agree to disagree.

          • Mysterio1 says:

Ive always felt that Oklahoma kids really get and stay upset over this. Especially when other schools start piling on.

          • Yet…. Just wait on it. There’s a really good possibility that Clemson offers before OU.

    • JB says:

Our coaches bought into the myth that we need to recruit Texas players more than Oklahoma players, even though they keep proving to themselves that they can’t win a national championship with so many Texas players on the roster.

  • Sooner 4Ever says:

Could the reason for not offering Saltes at the face to face be:

    1. The recruiting rules at this time. I believe that coaches are not allowed to discuss much at all with recruits during on campus visits during the evaluation period. Isn’t it supposed to be literally limited to “hello” (using a voice-over for Bob Stoops)?

    2. Or could it be the need for Mike to confer with Bob and/or others on the staff regarding the info he got from the coaches, councilors, etc while at the school? Considering the limited contact thus far with Saltes, the information Mike obtained may need to be discussed by the staff before the final decision on offer/ don’t offer can be made.

    Just wondering out loud

  • james babcock says:

Anything on the rumors a couple weeks back about a defensive back may be transferring.second the ncaa and espn biased towards the SEC is getting ridiculous.how Missouri got a higher seed than ou they had 14 losses in the middle of the sec and weren’t ranked in the top 15 yet they got a higher seed than ou. Oklahoma plan and simple got screwed by the NCAA .

    • John Garner says:

Agreed. OU SB got screwed. Wish Joe C would pitch a bitch. Maybe even Boren. Maybe they do and we don’t hear about it. Hopefully the girls can use it to fuel their fires and thwart the machinations of the evil empire.
