Open Post | Monday, Feb. 1st (UPDATE 2:45 pm)

As I suspect many of you are well aware, NSD is this Wednesday and things are about to get a little wild. Stay locked on TFB for all the latest!

Mark Jackson: The Sooners hosted 2016 DE/OLB Mark Jackson (Cibolo, TX) this past weekend, who has had interest in OU for quite some time. In fact before he committed to Texas A&M, we always got the impression from Jackson that the Sooners were at or near the top of his list.

In the past few weeks Jackson has visited Texas, Texas A&M & this past weekend, Oklahoma. Regarding said OU trip, Jackson said, “I really had a great time on the visit. My parents enjoyed it as well.”

After talking to a few sources on where things stand with Jackson following this weekend, it sounds like they did indeed have a great time. And we are getting a very real sense the Sooners may have done enough to win over both Jackson and his family. Seemingly also playing in there favor….

If this one does indeed go the Sooners way, it will be a big one for them after having lost both Eric Striker and Devante Bond. For whatever it’s worth, we’re expecting Denzel to make an appearance on the site at some point today. – (Super K)

Parrish Cobb: I spoke to a source regarding Sooners 2016 CB commit Parrish Cobb and it sounds like there is very real cause for concern following his visit to Waco this past weekend. One source gave me a distinct impression that Cobb actually prefers Texas, his father prefers Oklahoma, while his mother seems to be fine with either way.

As a result of what the source called “confusion in the household” I was told that Baylor made end up winning this battle as a compromise between the three programs. – (Super K)

Jared Mayden: Really haven’t heard much of anything on the 2016 CB & OU legacy. Not surprisingly, we feel the family would like to see Mayden follow in their footsteps and head to OU. However, we have also been told that Alabama is starting to feel pretty good about where things stand with respect to their chances at landing Mayden. – (Super K)

Tramonda Moore: With the commitment from 2016 OT Erik Swenson this past weekend, I’m told the Sooners may now be full on the offensive line. Regardless, I have told the Sooners are no longer recruiting Moore. – (Super K)

Maxs Tupai: 2016 DE/OLB Maxs Tupai (Murray, UT) also visited Oklahoma this past weekend. We haven’t had a chance to catch up with Tupai yet, but in talking to a source this one sounds like it will be a tough pull for the Sooners. Our source said, “he had a good time but the feeling is he wants to stay close to home.”

Maybe the Sooners can surprise here, but I’m not leaning that direction right now. – (Super K)

Chris Daniels: 2016 DT and former Sooner commit Chris Daniels will announce his commitment on Signing Day. Daniels is primarily focused in on three schools: OU, Texas & Texas A&M.

He was in College Station this past weekend for one final visit prior to announcing on Wednesday. You may recall the Aggies were at one time Daniels’ leader, and in talking with Daniels’ father it sounds like the visit went really well. But my personal takeaway from our conversation was that TAMU didn’t do enough to threaten OU and Texas.

I’ve been saying I feel Texas has a small lead here for a couple weeks, and I’m sticking with that prediction. But we will know for certain in a couple of days. – (Super K)

Mykel Jones: As you all know by now, 2016 WR Mykel Jones (Patterson, LA) made a surprise visit to Oklahoma yesterday (as first reported by Josh McCuistion of Rivals.com). We mentioned in the Open Post 2.0 that OU may be in a great spot to land Jones late because things may have filled up at the other schools — Ole Miss & Alabama — that were initially recruiting him the hardest.

However, I spoke to a second source on this one and it sounds like Jones may have actually eliminated Ole Miss himself due to recent news regarding possible NCAA sanctions. I was also told Jones isn’t interested in his home state team, LSU, because of concerns with the style of offense. This same source did make it clear that Alabama was Jones’ top choice, but the Crimson Tide may not ultimately have room for him in their 2016 class. And if that does prove to be the case, my source predicted OU would win a commitment from Jones.

I haven’t personally spoken to Jones, so I can’t really corroborate that information directly. But our sources seem to think this one could work out in OU’s favor. – (Super K)

– Riley Cole: In case you missed it, TFB broke the news last night that OU had offered 2016 LB Riley Cole (Oneonta, AL). Cole had been committed to Alabama since last summer, but decommitted this past Sunday after Bama asked him to grayshirt.

We had a chance to speak with Cole’s father yesterday afternoon, who shared that their phones were ringing off the hook with calls from coaches around the country trying to get a late crack at his son. Mike Stoops was one of those coaches and the Sooners have now thrown their hat in the ring having extended that offer.

Interestingly, Cole grew up a huge fan of Brian Bosworth (he even wears #44). And Cole’s father told his son has even studied tape on Bosworth’s game and tried to pattern his own after the Sooner legend. Another interesting note is that Riley has actually visited Norman. The summer between his freshman and senior year, he attended an off-campus camp in Norman. So there is at least some familiarity with Oklahoma.

When I spoke to Riley’s father yesterday, he did say that his son still plans to sign on NSD. Obviously that can change, but that was their stated plan as of yesterday afternoon. He also mentioned there are a few schools, including programs in the SEC, that have offered and Cole has some familiarity with those schools as well.

I honestly can’t say at this point where OU stands, but I can say definitively that Cole’s father seemed genuinely excited about the offer from Oklahoma. – (Super K)

AJ Parker: I just wanted to give a shout out to a very talented in-state cornerback who pulled big offer last night. AJ Parker (Bartlesville, OK) is a CB we’ve seen on multiple occasions and really like as a prospect, although, Parker’s recruitment never really took off in a way commensurate with his ability.

However, this past weekend he took an official visit to Kansas State and last night they offered! – (Super K)
