With the original weekend Open Post filling up, we thought it best to start a new one for weekend updates.
– Team Note | Dominique Hearne: I have confirmed through multiple sources that freshman offensive lineman, Dominique Hearne, will be leaving the program and is not expected to return. – (Super K)
– Erik Swenson: We’ve been staying in touch with 2016 OT Erik Swenson this weekend and he is having a great trip. No offer has been made but we’re hearing one could be coming soon. Swenson himself said, “I love it here and I think it will all work out”.
You’ll recall that, up until recently, Swenson was a long time Michigan commit. Since he and Michigan parted ways he’s been considering his other options and if OU offers I would be very surprised if the Sooners don’t land him. – (Super K)
– Joshua Jacobs: 2016 OK Preps RB Joshua Jacobs visited Missouri yesterday and the family let me know that they are currently on their way to Tuscaloosa to visit Alabama. They have also been in communication with the OU coaches. – (Super K)
– UPDATE (Sat., 4:57 pm): An interesting development regarding Miss. State WR commit, Zach Farrar. We have been told that the Sooners have agreed to let Zach play baseball his first year, something Miss. State had already promised. Farrar is actually touring (by now he may have completed the tour) the baseball facilities today. This one is looking good for the Sooners.

– UPDATE (Sun., 1:29 pm) Mykel Jones: Just off the phone with someone familiar with Mykel Jones’ recruitment. Apparently Jones was expected to take a visit to Ole Miss this weekend but didn’t show up. Instead, he is visiting Oklahoma. I’m told that the issue Jones is having is that both Ole Miss and Alabama (schools he is interested in) are a little up in the air as to whether they will or won’t have a spot for Jones. As such, he took the visit to OU.
I have not spoken to Jones myself but based on the information mentioned above, if Jones has a good visit to OU this one could go OU’s way. – (Super K)

Another victim of Nick Saban’s infamous “process” just a couple days before National Signing Day. But what you’re probably asking at this point is why it’s relevant to Oklahoma.
Well, as it turns out Cole is a fan of an OU all-time great in Brian Bosworth and he has actually been to Norman before a couple years back for a football camp.
According to a TFB source, there is a degree of mutual interest here with respect to both Cole and OU. However, as you would probably expect a late decommit from the Crimson Tide will not lack for potential suitors. Based on what we’ve been told the family has already heard from a number of coaches to gauge interest.
Despite it being a little more than 72 hours away, TFB has been told Cole would still prefer to sign with a school on Wednesday. So if Oklahoma — or frankly any school — is going to make a move here, then they need to do so quickly. It remains to be seen whether the previous ‘connections’ to OU mentioned above will play in their favor. But should they choose to be, the Sooners have a chance at another late but talented addition to this 2016 class. – (Super K)

That is what I was thinking, but was checking to see if there was a definite answer. Getting possible starters or making room of better depth sounds good to me. Not saying he is a bad player, because I have no idea about him.

Hearne leaving opens a scholly, hate to see anyone leave, but its at a position we can absorb easily, and might nab us another kid we might not have room for at a position of need.

If we dont land jacobs, not the end of the world, most of us didnt even know his name a week ago. adams is a stud RB, and sounds like we are in a good spot with farrar. We will be fine.
It’s a necessary thing. Guys like grant and Daimler who won’t play ever should do the university a favor if they’ve already graduated.

i see your point, but its hard to blame the kids for taking the free extra year. They work their butts off to stay on the team for 5 years. A free year of school at OU is worth what, 15-20k?
For an out of state kid yeah that’s about right. I’m just saying they should transfer to some lower school and try to play that last year, that was their goal when they signed was to play football.

I wouldn’t want to say — I just like hearing that they are keeping in touch. That’s not something you do if OU is completely out of it.

trading the potential of Hearne with the potential of Swenson seems like may be a win.
Hearne leaving frees up a scholarship and probably is a good move for both him and OU. Wish him well. As for Jacobs – doesn’t strike me as a typical Bama RB. Backs like him such as Drake seem to get underused. Am expecting Henry’s replacement to be in the Richardson or Henry mold.

Did the coaching staff blow it with Jacobs? It sure seems to me that this staff slow plays OK kids and seems not to really evaluate OK kids. OK high schools are competitive with Texas schools in the games I’ve seem. There may not be as much overall talent but I get the feeling they under estimate OK kids.
His hometown school didnt recruit a 4 star RB. Everyone except wyoming missed him until last week, wasnt just us by any means.
Just my opinion that this staff doesn’t focus enough on OK kids.
Maybe it’s the Oklahoma high school coaches who don’t promote thier players very wel, with the in-state schools.

This state produces good talent for its population. It doesn’t have that big of population.
The state produces 20-30 kids that go to D1 schools every year. Mostly 2-3 star kids. I think we know rankings really don’t apply to college coaches. Most of these kids are die hard OU fans. These are the kind of kids that made up the 2000 NC teams.
So based on that you would think JMT will be a better player at ou than Kelly?
Its not enough talent to field a competitive team. We grab the ones worth grabbing. Jacobs, moore, JMT, bundage and the guard we nabbed were the only ones the coaches felt worth offering.
Ok, then we can continue recruiting out of state kids who leave the program after two years. Just saying there is more talent than this staff evaluates. Maybe they need to increase their recruiting staff like Bama has.

I thought NCAA limits staffing size. All schools have the same number of recruiting personnel and only so many can contact players and coaches.
You can still have more behind the scenes guys evaluating film and scouring the country for more film.

Staff costs money man. Oil being so far down is killing the state economy. Regents would get crucified for adding superflous(to an outsiders) staff.
That could be but we really don’t know that. TV money is staggering so I’m not sure that explanation holds water. JMO.
All we see is revenue, not profit. Plus our athletic department was the 3rd best in the country in giving money back to the academic side, almost 20 million last year, out of about 120 million in revenue.

Thank you for bringing that to everyone’s attention. To my point yesterday of why people shouldn’t be upset. If ou offers him early then all the attention would have been there from the start and he would probably still want to see what Alabama is all about.
Thats a risk worth taking in my opinion. If you lose OK kids because you slow play them don’t get pissed when these kids take out of state offers.
We only planned on taking one running back this year. Why focus on a kid getting no attention than one who is highly touted like Adams and the rest of the backs we were after.
This kid didn’t have quality film out there for coaches to see until 3 weeks ago. He’s also not from a perennial power school in the state.
Because the goal is to bring in the best kids regardless especially from your own state. What difference does it make if the kid isn’t getting attention? If you have built a network with the HS coaches you will know about these kids. Like K said, how did Wyoming know about him before OU did? That’s a really good question everyone should be asking including Bob. Protect your home recruiting grounds or you’ll become like Texas.

I don’t think I said that Zack. I said they should’ve known (As did Super K) about him before Wyoming. He’s in state. They should know the in state kids. If they were full at RB, I understand why they didn’t offer. However, they offer late after smaller out of state schools do. So if you don’t need him than why offer? My point is they should know who the best in state kids are and make offers early and not come in at the last minute and expect these kids to commit because they’re Oklahoma.

Am I the only one who thinks that not only didnt we offer him too late but actually we offered him too EARLY. If we would have waited until a day before NSD then Bama wouldnt be in on him and we’d only have to fend off Missouri.

Just may be these schools are looking between the cracks and find the kids that fall there because a big in state school like OU doesn’t do their due diligence in state.
They are probably better at scouring lower ranks. I believe bob said the other day there are 250k kids that graduate every year that play football. Thats a lot of kids to evaluate.

4a school on a 6-5 team. Probably still somwhere in the neighborhood of 5k-7500 just in oklahoma.
not arguing, just discussion……..don’t think the math on your remark is even logical, but would direct you to read the remarks by super k later in the op ……..just very strange and interesting circumstances around this kid raises questions about in-state eval methods when searching the country and miss in tulsa….btw, ou recruiting budget in ’14 was over 800k which is up there in big 12 terms

I was including all teams from a-6a. Im from bartlesville, one of the smallest 6a schools, and if i remember correctly we had a total team around 70-80 kids. Maybe 10-20% were sophmores, and the rest split evenly between junior and seniors, so 30 ish seniors a year.
Theres 32 6a schools, all of them producing more along the lines of 40-50 seniors, and you are around 1500 kids a year before you dip into lower districts.
Maybe 7500 is too high, but id bet we put out 5k total seniors per year as a state.
I wish we found him earlier too, dont get me wrong, thats still a lot of talent to evaluate.
Would love to see the ins and outs of the process, to see how someone like that can slip through, but i just dont have the insight.

There were reports that his jersey number was wrong on tapes that got sent out(he switched from 8 to 28 i believe), so it could have been a simply foul up. Seems like quite a few made the same mistake.
I don’t think we “missed” him. HS box scores are delivered on the coaches doorsteps every Saturday morning. I’ve lived in north Texas for quite awhile and they still print quite a few OK box scores in the Texas paper.

Didn’t know he was being recruited as an athlete. But as a RB, well, we are deeeeeeep at the position already with Adams coming in. Gonna be nasty the next few years.
He’s a RB, probably referring to him as Athlete so they don’t concern the RB commit they have. It says plenty about his talent if Bama is offering. Kids is a difference maker. You find a spot for kids like this for your team and to protect your recruiting grounds. I can’t say enough how important that is.
I don’t think we “need” him but he’s being recruited as an athlete which blends well with Riley’s offense especially his play in space. After this year, only Adams and Anderson would be there (assuming Mixon and Perine leave. With the injuries the latter 2 had over the year, it would make sense to have his skillset
I think OU is setting pretty good with some 2017 kids. Who, I don’t know. Just seems like OU is working further down the road than it had in the past.
Completely agree. Five 2017 commitments all 4 Star + It’s already a ridiculously good class.
Mixon won’t be leaving after this season. He can fulfill his potential with another 2 seasons.
Never say never. If the guy has a monster year, it would be hard to make a case for him to stay , especially since 2018 will be a craaaaaazy good year for RBs

I think OU is only offering b/c of the uncertainty with guys like our JUCO WR commit. Doesn’t make sense to offer a kid like Jacobs when we stopped recruiting his position a while back. We miss on some WR’s, so we go back and offer him as a playmaker type.
The difference is Missouri’s new staff had already visited twice before OU even contacted him. In fact, he was Missouri’s first visit after the dead period.
Kid’s tape came out 2-3 weeks ago. lots of speculation on how iy happened but anyone that watches the tape can see clearly that they didnt just sit on their hands. 3 offers from playoff teams in 1 week tells me someone didnt want word getting out. If he doesn’t pick OU, I would root for MO to get it. He will warm the bench at Bama since they are recruiting him as a Back. He cannot survive the type of carries that Bama backs handle IMO.
If you don’t protect your home recruiting grounds others will come in and take the best players. That is what most big schools do. That is why is so hard to go in to Florida, Ohio, and Bama. Just looks at what has happened to Texas. They have failed to protect their instate talent and now everyone comes in takes the best talent especially at QB.
OU wants to recruit nationally according to BS. Perhaps when we compare the number of viable D1 stars in OU’s backyard to say Ohio state’s or LSU’s, we wouldn’t focus on protecting it.

Recruiting nationally is more costly as well. We see kids doing well from Oklahoma every year at Kstate and other Big 12 schools. A 3 star in OK is as good as a 3 star anywhere IMO.
Oh, I completely agree, but I’m included to believe that no one knew about this kid in particular until a week ago. Not even Wyoming or back yard Tulsa caught wind of this cat and he plays 4A. I’ll cut the coaches some slack.
I don’t think there is any excuse for not knowing about the kid. I’m not one to blast anyone and maybe it wouldn’t have mattered but if Wyoming and North Texas knew about the kid…OU and OSU should’ve know about the kid. Both HCs, I suspect, are going to give someone an earful.
Tulsa apparently asleep as well, which is worse since there are only a few miles between them.
Tulsa had been communicating with him but I believe what I was told is that they had way too many RBs already on campus. But Tulsa is the school that didn’t offer Papi White and he won the starting job at Ohio as a true freshman (got hurt in the first game). I believe they also let Davion Pierson out of the state as well.
Also lost a bit of their O staff to texsa right in the middle of recruiting so… I’ll give ’em a pass. Not so much for OU and little bro though

No, there isn’t. He had grades, high character and is a devastating athlete. The in-state schools missed on him and were out-scouted by…Wyoming. Sometimes it’s just a screw up by the schools.
Totally agree K. And that was the point of my post. I think a lot of people are making excuses for why recruiting is suffering.
Yeah, in these cases it speaks to an issue that needs to be resolved which is the information acquisition and scouting for both in-state programs. If an OK kid is in the newspaper and my personnel guys don’t know about him…I’m not going to be quiet. Jacobs went to the North Texas camp (he ran a 4.4 there and earned an offer). No one is going to convince me that North Texas has a bigger personnel department than OU or OSU.
Super K, as you know, you can’t know about everybody. They were as late as Bama, know what I mean? The question is now can you get him to OU? Timing isn’t an issue.
Bama isn’t in state. You have to know the talent in your home state. You have to have an in state network with the HS coaches. That’s what Baylor does. That’s what TCU does. Texas used to do that but Strong pissed off all the Texas HS coaches when he told everyone we would focus more on Florida.

Stoops and Co. don’t mind but they do prefer the kid not do so during their freshman year
I’d rather they play early, and if they end up being good enough at football to start, THEN give up baseball and focus on football. Personally I don’t think the OU football staff really wants any of them doing both, but you’d miss out on some kids if you told them that.
And plus I think we’re in “desperation” mode hate to say but at this point I think the cards are in Farrar hands at this point.
I expect Thomas back for fall camp. The deal with farrar may be the exact same as miss state in that unless he enters the draft or whatever then how seriously is he taking baseball? At that point it’s a hobby and he counts against the football scholarships while missing important time in the spring.
So glad things are going well with Farrar, feels like a really good fit all the way around.

Is Farrar even a serious baseball recruit for the better programs? If he isn’t I can see him getting to practice and after some future pro ball style pitches go zinging by at 95 mph he will have to re-evaluate his baseball potential. If I remember right, Cody Thomas played awful his first year for OU bb- very low batting average and some trouble in the field.

Simmons is going to be a stud in the NBA, but Buddy is the better player today, for sure.
Buddy was the best player out there today. He was clutch when we needed him. Simmons was ok and never showed he could takeover a game. He needs to show he can be a premiere player in the game. With his size and length he should of been the dominant player on the floor today.

Coaches probably want to make sure he has all his questions answered,then sit down with him and his parents and see if he is interested, then a offer would be extended. That’s my impression of how this often works. If they are staying through Sunday they may not talk until tomorrow. Who knows?

People often misquote the scripture of “money is the root of all evil”, the correct quote it “the love of money is the root of all evil”. My little community is pretty vanilla, we had some water quality problems, we all pitched in together and paid to remedy the situation. The situation in Flint seems to be more of a situation of money and a cover up. I don’t know if “race” had anything to do with it or not, but it really looks like that may be part if not most of the problem, and money being the rest. Things like this make racial healing slow to a crawl. Regardless of the reason, I hope justice is served, and lives and health are restored. We can effect the first part, only “By his stripes….” can effect the later.

That was well thought out. I appreciate your perspective. This news brought me down. I like to think that I am conscious of what’s happening. I totally missed this story. How can you punish the perpetrators severely enough, restore balance and trust?
I have a hope and faith in our system. The system has at times let us down, has tied our hands to the point that justice is not always served, but it’s what we have created and its what we have to work with. My “hope” would be that the perpetrators would have consciense and make restitution of their own volition. That doesn’t happen often either. It comes down to our court system, and the hope that they get it right. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don’t. I’ve said all this to say that my opinion is, it comes down to us. We need to make this right for our people first. A dollar here and there, up to thousands here or there as we are all able to help. Let the courts run their course separate from the aid we provide for our people. Too often we are wanting “someone else” to pick up the slack. Celebrities, athletes, politicains etc. let them do it. That’s not the way I think. I have a responsibility to my family, my community, to my country. I cannot effect change by myself, but I can be a very small moving part of the change. More small moving parts are needed, but I have got to do my part. Change does not start with the face on the TV, it begins with face in my mirror.

I agree with all you said about Moore, I won’t even put in print here the way I feel about that man. The point I disagree with is how to set it right. If there is a guilty party, a major corp. knowingly creating an environmental catastrophy, they should clean it up, make it right and restore any physical damage to the environment and physical lives of the resident in the area. If there was no malice then I would be more inclined to say let’s all chip in our dollars (no new taxes) of our free will and help the residents of Flint. Keep the scumbag blowhards out of it and take care of our people. I don’t want Moore anywhere around an undertaking like that, he would just perpetuate his own agenda. Action needs to be taken quickly and decisively. Celebrities would be welcome to help, but let’s all leave the agendas at home and just bring our heart felt help.

Flint had a choice two years ago between paying Detroit to continue supplying them with water, or using the Flint River– which they knew would be difficult to filter –until the KWA Pipeline from Lake Huron finished this year. They were actually applauded for their decision. Looks like they chose wrong.
Selfishness often results in the wrong decision.
And what’s wrong with the Detroit city officials? Why were they looking to take advantage of a town that did not have a clean water source. If they knew about the Flint River, as it appears everyone in that region did, why not “love thy neighbor?”
Detroit wasn’t taking advantage of anyone. It’s their water, they can charge what they want and they already supply the rest of the County with water. They also know there is a new pipeline being built for that the rest of the county within a few years. It’s not selfish at all, the economy is controlled by price/supply and demand, it cannot be selfish. After all, if they don’t charge others more for using their water, how would they allocate it properly?
I understand. But given the severity of the situation, why would you tell people to pay me what I want or drink your tainted water?
And if Detroit lowers the cost for Flint, a very large City, how would the surrounding towns/cities that pay more react? Regardless, Detroit can’t afford to be charitable. They do all the work, so someone else wants some of their water, you have to pay up. It would be stupid for Detroit financially to not charge higher for other cities, especially when their own people struggle to pay for it at an increasing rate.
The fault here lies within the City of Flint, where the City Council and Mayor had a tough choice to make and knowing the risks, chose to filter water from the Flint River. Detroit may have wanted a lot of money, more than Flint could afford, but just because there are only two options doesn’t mean one of them is a good one. They wouldn’t be the first City in Michigan to be in financial trouble, and they have themselves to blame for that, too. They could have re-negotiated with Detroit and paid more for two years, and then switch to the KWA pipeline in 2016. Now they’re even worse off financially and as a community then before. That’s poor leadership. Perhaps next time the people of Flint will be smarter with their votes when electing people into such positions.

I feel like recruits pick a school every year or every few years that is a “trendy” school to go to. With our program coming back into national relevance and the younger generations wanting to build their own success/follow their own path, tradition comes less into play. Bama will continue to have recruiting success, but it’s boring. Recruits want something new and fresh. Oklahoma has reinvented itself as of recent and is a hot, trendy choice for 2017 recruits. I wouldn’t be surprised if we were pitching it that way to some recruits.

+++ Agree. While OK kids have been the heart and sinew of OU football, kids from Texas have always been the meat and muscle. Like seeing OU able to recruit coast-to-coast and bring in Cali kids and kids from Philly and DC, but it’s Texas where OU has made it’s living.
Except every national championship OU has won (50, 55, 56, 74, 75, 85 and especially 2000) was done with a majority of OK kids on the roster and depth chart. I ask the question that I have yet to receive a satisfactory answer to is that if Texas HS talent is soooo great, why is it that OU has as many or more NCs than ALL of the Texas schools combined? Texas produces the highest number of HS football players of any state at 165,000 per year (compared to Oklahoma putting out about 28,000 a year, yet OK was 10th per capita in producing NFL players; Texas was like 20th per capita).
But USC has more titles than all of the Texas schools and they do it with an overwhelming majority of in-state Cali players, plus there are other Cali schools with NCs besides USC. The state of Florida also produces better talent, as evidenced by the FL schools (Miami, UF and FSU chalking up something like 11 NCs combined). I would like to see us focus harder on Cali and Florida than Texas. Get a few players from Texas, sure, but get more from in state, Cali and Florida.

I agree that the value of the heart and pride of OK players is overlooked too often and can’t be measured. But I don’t think the answer is just pull in the top 25 OK prep players every year (not that you’re suggesting that, but it would be the logical extreme of the idea). I do think, though, if the coaches are really doing the right job, we should see somewhere between 5 and 10 OK players almost every year. And that would mean picking some players that national guys would say, “Whoa, WTF? Really?” But think of all the guys who have gone to KSU, Tulsa, and Poke who just really had great careers, who no one gave much of a thought about.
Can’t dispute your point but will add my perspective. It’s easier to ask a kid to cross a river than to ask a kid to cross several states. I think that’s why Texas will always be a big hunting ground for us.
True. And to go a step further, with our ‘mobile’ society, not all Okie kids want to stay in OK. Conversely, not easy to pull kids out of Florida and Cali and get them to OK. I like to see OU spend their resources on those out-of-state kids, like Darlington and Striker, who express an interest in OU/have some connection to OU/OK.

I have a hunch Stoops is leaving a slot open for him and if it doesn’t come through then do what he has done the last few years and give the scholarship to a deserving senior walk on. With that said, scholarship numbers seem tight this year and the math of current offers and the current roster haven’t jived one bit.

I don’t have a problem with it being a business decision, just be honest about it. “We will accept your commitment, but just know that if we close on a couple of the guys that we have ahead of you, then we will ask you to gray shirt” . “Coach , I would love to commit to you, but depending on who else you sign and what I hear from other opportunities, I reserve the right to change my mind”.
All of this nonsense about oversigning or committing early just to save a spot for yourself is disingenuous . It’s somewhat understandable from a teenager making the biggest decision of his life. It should not be tolerated by any professional coach. Lead by example. Make your “yes” your “yes” and your “no” your “no”. It might hurt you with an individual recruiting battle, but it will show to the high school coaches that your are an honest broker and can be trusted with their kids. In the long run behave with integrity and let the chips fall where they may.
Preaching to the choir, brother. Just sayin’… there does not seem to be any movement for an early signing date/period by coaches/admin that might help alleviate some of this. So, hard to expect it from a 17 yr old, although think coaches and parents could/should do a better job of ‘teaching’ these concepts of ‘commitment’ and ‘integrity’. You’re exactly right. Coaches could enact an early signing period, but they don’t want to get stuck with a kid that stops trying. Is the kid topped out or is he playing it safe? That seemed to be Michigan’s issue with Swenson, but they had almost three months to communicate this with the family or back channel it through the high school coach.The school presidents shouldn’t allow this this behavior. Everyone wants a winner, but at the expense of the school’s reputation ? I guess AAU membership makes up for having dirtbag coaches.
I don’t care much for Harbaugh the creep at all; however he didn’t tell just Swenson they were reevaluating the offers made by the previous coach but we’re doing the same for all of them. But their loss is OU’s gain.
That’s all well and good, but Harbaugh has had over a year to make this evaluation. He’s had 3 months just from the end of his high school season. Unless this family is in total denial, they should have been better prepared to open back up his recruiting. Maybe there is something about this kid that doesn’t fit there scheme or maybe they don’t like his motor, but it didn’t take us long to figure out that he could play for us. I am sure had Wisconsin known earlier, they would have had a spot for him.
I am no defender of Harbaugh but the article I read on fox sports said Swenson was asked to come in — I think the time was August– for the staff to evaluate him and he refused to go in. I would bet if either had the chance to do this over again in a different way they would.
There is definitely something not right about the story. I’m not totally sure I believe all one side or the other, but I have a hard time believing that if his high school coach thought his scholarship offer was in jeopardy that he wouldn’t discussed this with the family. But as I said, they had plenty of time to pull the offer and they waited until late. If communication was really this difficult with this family, they should have moved on long ago.

I’m not sure. Alabama did it this way intentionally. It was speculated that they do this kind of thing because they want the kid to decommit but I think it was actually that they wanted him to be a preferred walk on. They did it when he has no time left to take officials and the dead period starts at midnight tonight. So IMO saban pulled the offer today because he thought it would help him gray shirt the kid.
As for whether ou would take him, I think it would depend on where their numbers stand after NSD.

I’ve noticed a pattern of recruiting under Stoops that gets ignored from one perspective. It seems we don’t have full classes intentionally so that when crazy things happen to very talented players we always seem to have a few spots open to them. Stoops gets recognized as a great closer, but that may not be entirely true. The ability to land the great guys who can’t find a home at the last minute may just be a product of intentionally keeping some slots open for last-minute guys. It sure seems this way to me. We always land some good ones at the last minute.

Two things I look for in film for HS linebackers: 1) do they tackle or do they strike with a degree of controlled violence– I like the punisher and 2) can they move through the trash and get to the ball before it’s ten yards down field. This kid looks like a very good mlb prospect. Reminds me of a young Teddy Lehman (speed) with some Rockly Calmus hitter in him. I will withhold any Boz comparisons until it’s merited.

I don’t think he plans on sitting out but a torn pec will force him to miss more time than he expects. I’m not going to say for certain that it’s a career ending injury if in fact fully torn but I know it’s a tough injury to come back from.

Nelson had same injury in 2013 against TCU but that was end of September. He was able to make it back & made Broncos roster following season. So, purely based on that example I’ll say Evans will be fine to play in ’16 – just probably won’t be ready to do much until around July.

The youngquist news seemed to be a bolt from nowhere. I’m sure the OU staff new about it before it went public but the beal commit seemed to predate that development by few weeks. I think the Jacobs and other WR offers may be a result of Bryce’s situation.

With all due respect, these people must have an excess of vacation days or have an extremely limited perspective. If they wait until the end of the day to see who their favorite team signed, the same players will still be on the list that were there in the middle of the day. And they still won’t be playing any football for their team until next fall. And based on percentages, over half of the players that they were so excited to watch sign with their team that they took the day off will be busts or have limited impact on their teams. Many will never play a down.

I’m not a professional scout or anything, but this kids film just doesn’t impress. What am I missing? The hudl film makes him look timid and slow.
Football knowledge is there. Form is there. Size is there. Needs to develop physically to become a real ILB. Didn’t really come downhill much but that may be dependent on the scheme’s he was running. Didn’t see to many blitzes called.
I guess I’m just not seeing that aggressiveness I see from some of these other kids they were high on

I usually agree with this thiught process, and have even used it in a few cases, but I’ve seen them make a lot of questionable offers In the last few days before NSD though.
He’s not Mark Jackson and I would like to see him make more tackles in the backfield for sure, but the foundation is there to build off of.
Hopefully that’s the case. With the limited schollys available I was just hoping for more obvious talent. Not saying he can’t be a great player, just really looking for some big time kids that have obvious potential, I suppose. Offers like this just always feel like something unexpected happened…really hope that’s not the case.
If it makes you feel any better, he’s put on between 20 and 25 pounds since that film. All muscle. Kid definitely has drive, hopefully he can translate that to the field.
