Chris Daniels: I spoke with 2016 DT & OU commit Chris Daniels’ father about what he and his son have on the horizon. He confirmed, as expected, Daniels will in Austin this weekend to hear the Longhorns’ sales pitch. Interestingly, it seems TAMU is also back in the mix. In fact Daniels’ father tells TFB the Aggie coaches are expected to have an in-home with the family on Sunday. Meanwhile, the OU coaches will have their in-home visit with Daniels on Monday.

I spoke to Daniels’ father about how he would describe his son’s commitment to OU to which he said, “I think pretty solid…I ask him every few days, and he seems pretty solid. Coach Strong went to college with my dad, and knows my family. My uncle played defensive line at the same school that Strong attended and won a championship, so it’s a respect thing with him.”

Daniels’ is obviously a highly coveted prospect by both the OU and Texas programs, so I don’t expect anyone to back off until the ink is actually dry on NSD. But I also think a lot of how things play out will depend on this weekend. – (Super K)

Erick Fowler: I caught up with someone close to LSU OLB/DE commit Erick Fowler (Manor, TX) last night, who gave me the run down on the talented prospect’s remaining visits. Fowler will visit Texas this weekend and the expectation right now is to visit LSU the following weekend. After that, the plan at the moment is to visit Oklahoma the final weekend prior to National Signing Day.

Oklahoma was one of Fowler’s earliest offers and has been to Norman before. However based on what I have been told, as of right now, there are really two schools vying for Fowler’s commitment. And those schools are LSU & Texas.

However, Fowler has some folks around him that are interested in OU because of the schematic fit and the potential for early playing time. And in talking with Fowler, he loved his visit to OU. It was one of the first schools he ever visited.

If the OU trip happens, it’s still an uphill battle make no mistake about it. But I think having Fowler and Mark Jackson — who is also expected to be in Norman that same weekend — on campus at the same time, and being able to pitch them the open spot that fits their respective skill sets perfectly, could help OU’s cause in landing one or both. – (Super K)

– End Of The Dead Period: To no one’s surprise, the end of the dead period means the OU coaching staff are hitting the road. Among others, they have already seen or will see WR Quartney Davis, OL Johncarlo Valentin & LB Kapri Doucet.
