– Jacob Phillips: Some Sooner fans continue to be concerned about 2017 OU LB commit, Jacob Phillips visiting LSU next weekend.
As we mentioned in the Wednesday Open Post, Sooners LB coach, Tim Kish is expected to visit Phillips today and coach Bob Stoops will visit Phillips on Monday.
I did ask Phillips directly if the Sooners had anything to worry about. He said, “no”.
I asked someone close to Phillips for thoughts on the situation, “The family seems to be all in on Oklahoma.” But added, “I am not understanding the trip.” When I asked the source what he felt the outcome of all this would be the source said, “He’s going to remain committed to Oklahoma.”
We are also told that the Sooners staff continues to feel confident.
Again, I continue to find it hard to imagine that someone who went through the process with his family and announced in front of family and friends and is so close to the OU commits, would suddenly flip to LSU. But, so long as the visit is happening there is always that slight air of concern. – (Super K)
– Austin Faoliu: As we previously reported, the Sooners will host 2017 DT, Austin Faoliu (Santa Ana, CA) this weekend. Earlier this week Faoliu decommitted from Arizona. He has also let it be known that he will announce his commitment on January 21st at the Polynesian Bowl.
You can review my brief thoughts on the Faoliu in last weekend’s Open Post.
I had a chance to speak with Faoliu’s parents earlier this week and they are clearly very excited about the sudden interest Austin has received from major programs. Austin’s father is particularly excited about the OU offer, “The OU offer really caught my attention. I really like coach Thibodeaux. I like that guy. But I also played high school football with Jamelle Holieway. He was my quarterback in high school so I like OU.” For you younger OU fans, Holieway, like Austin’s father is from California and was quarterback for the Sooners on the 85 NC team.
Interestingly, Austin’s father was coached in college by Gary Patterson who also recently offered Austin but still, the connection to OU through Holieway seems to have had more sway.
The Faoliu family is clearly a tight knit family but both his parents were adamant that distance will not play a factor in his Austin’s decision, “we are going to support him and what he wants. If decides on Oklahoma we can make it to a few games out there”.
We should know more about where things stand for the Sooners and Faoliu following this upcoming trip. – (Super K)

Barnes is expected to officially visit Oklahoma next weekend.
The Sooners also offered, 2017 Louisville DB commit, Russ Yeast (Greenwood, IN). I am told that Oklahoma will visit Yeast next Tuesday. After that we should know more about whether Yeast will officially visit OU.
At this point the Sooners have one more defensive back spot so it’ll be a first come first serve situation. – (Super K)
– Latavious Brini: Earlier this week, 2017 DB, Latavious Brini (Hialeah Gardens, FL) released his top 5 and the Sooners made the cut. Brini officially visited Oklahoma late in the season.

I am told that the Sooners are not pushing particularly hard for Brini at the moment. I have been told not to be surprised to see Brini end up at South Florida with coach Strong. – (Super K)
