– Obi Eboh: Well, Obi Eboh tweeted out that he has received an offer from Texas. We’ve spoken to a couple sources around Obi and it seems the Texas offer could change things significantly. Eboh camped at Texas in June. Eboh is a very accomplished young man in the classroom (top 10%), and I’m told he and his mother really like the academics at Texas. Can’t say for certain which way this one will go but based on what I’m hearing from folks around Obi, this Texas offer is a game-changer. Fortunately for OU, coach Cooks has already put together a nice DB class and there are still a number of targets out there that are considering OU. So the Sooners are in good shape overall. – (Super K)
– Brey Walker: Star 2018 OT Brey Walker (Moore, OK) tells us that he will be an attendance at this weekends season opener versus Akron.
The more Walker is on campus at OU, the better things are for Bedenbaugh and the Sooners. And Walker will end up being one of the most critical recruits in Oklahoma high school’s recent history. – (Brandon)
– Byron Murphy: 2016 CB Byron Murphy (Scottsdale, AZ) released his Top 8 yesterday and the Sooners made the cut. We are checking in with Murphy to see if OU will receive an official visit from the highly sought after cornerback. Murphy’s top 8 included: Arizona, Arizona State, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M, USC and Washington. – (Super K)
– UPDATE (2:30 pm): Levi Draper update…
2017 @collinsville_fb LB @Ldraper_10 heard from #Bama #Gators #Pokes #Purdue #Stanford & #KU so far. Speaking with #OU tonight.
— Brandon Drumm (@Bdrumm_Rivals) September 1, 2015
– UPDATE (2:45 pm): As Brandon noted a couple weeks back (here & here), 2016 WR Tyrie Cleveland and 2016 DT Ed Oliver out of Westfield HS, plan on taking an official visit to Oklahoma. Cleveland just tweeted out the following:
Me and @Edoliver_11 going on that OU official visit 😎😈

First? Me? Why, I don’t know what to say. This is all so sudden. There’s just so many people to thank. I, uh. I…
Did you kiss your wife first before you made the walk?
Right after a firm goose. 🙂
Well played, Sir!
Is walker the best okpreps prospect since McCoy? Or am I missing somebody?
Would be hard to argue against McCoy, IMO.
Seems that way right now.
Reading the comments at TFB over the past few months, I would have assumed Levi Draper.
You would think but I was not one of those to over react to the draper news.
https://twitter.com/Tyrie_1/status/638796103945732097
Getting those two on campus would be huge. Two excellent players. Need to roll out the red carpet for them!
This weekend?
I don’t believe so, but haven’t seen a date specified.
Tyrie is a must get especially in this offense. He is one of those that don’t come around very often. Huge if OU gets his signature.
Both would be good additions. Oliver is going to be a star
Walker and Casey Thompson have to be 1A and 1B in recruiting for 2018. I know it’s far off but gotta get both of those guys
Hey K where do we stand with Tramonda Moore? Would love to get him and Brey Walker
Tramonda is very high on FSU. If he stays in-state, OU is going to be in for a fight with OSU. His HC is Rashawn Woods and Tramonda admitted that Woods would like to see him at OSU. I think OU could get him, but at the moment I wouldn’t say OU is the favorite.
ive seen rumors that there is very little chance he will qualify academically. heard anything there?
BedenBOOM has his work cut out in order to get Tramonda. Bummer, I was hoping we could land him and The Big Little. Bring in Oliver, Tyrie Whaley along with Kelly and I’d say we are doin pretty good.
Dear Levi,
I’m just a simple Sooner fan with more titles than talent. My identity is of no real consequence to you. But you, my dude, are an Okie and a balls awesome linebacker. You will be great wherever you go, but not wherever you go will be great. So, you can go and be part of the T. Boone experiment and accessorize your uniforms with all the other CowBarbies, or you can come to Norman and add your name to the football pantheon.
Go the way of the Boz, o’ slobber-knocker. And let the Gundies play dress-up.
Sincerely,
The TFB Community
Mamas, don’t let your babies (or ballers) grow up be Cowboys. So let it be sung, so let it be done.
Nice!

Can someone DM this to LEVI!! EPIC!!
Smiling as I wipe a single tear from my cheek…beautiful.
Stanford offered Levi tonight BTW
And with more on the way, I bet.
I honestly don’t know who HASNT offered… Texas & A&M, LSU Florida, a few big 10 teams… he has a ton of offers already
FYI, re-air of the Marucs Dupree “30 for 30” on ESPN2 at 6 CST. Excellent documentary.
I dont know why but im real excited to see Daniel Brooks run the ball in this offense. I think he might pose some Darren Sproles type problems.
Like a poor mans Darren Sproles
Good news on the Draper front. Hope all goes well and the communications continue to grow in a positive way for OU. I know somewhere in that young man, he likes OU or he wouldn’t have had the OU stuff on his walls. Maybe time will heal all wounds and he will be OU bound.
Hey I understand being a fan of a school, but it is crazy to me that OU can put all this work in on a kid that was on the edge of committing and then another school offers and it all just goes away. Obviously this has happened in OU’s favor before and I loved it, but even then it just seems crazy to me.
Pisses me off something fierce.
I admit, Josh Wariboko still makes me leery when comes to in-state recruiting. The guy seemed like he was on campus all the time and posted pro-OU stuff, only to committ to UCLA. So for me, my comfort level with Brey Walker or Levi Draper won’t be a given until thier LOI is in.
It is all about the attitude. Josh wanted to leave the state and wanted to attend USC. If USC had offered, OU would not of had a chance. In the end, it would have taken OU to offer his brother and you cannot play that game with any recruit if you were not already going to offer their brother to begin with.
I know Josh and he loves California and loved his visit UCLA. It was also an education decision for him. They have something’s they can offer in their business school that OU could not. He struggled to the end as to OU or UCLA but just liked them better. Nothing against OU just a matter of comfort
Just read where Jalen Saunders is has been traded to New England. Hopefully he finds a home for while.
http://sports.yahoo.com/news/agent-saints-trade-saunders-patriots-draft-pick-174155999–nfl.html
It’ll be tough to stay on the roster so close to the final cut but hope he does it! Love seeing Sooners with the Pats.
Would be surprised NE would trade for him, if they didnt think he would make cut. But, ya never know..
They likely traded for him to add to camp depth. They’ve got guys out with injuries at that position and other guys they want to keep out so they don’t get injured. It could be they traded for him because they really want him, and maybe they do even as just a camp guy, but if that were the case they probably would have made the trade a lot sooner. Regardless, I hope they like what they see enough to keep him.
The one thing I do like about the Pats is they will find a way to get the best out of every player. They can take a guy that might not be that great on another team and make him shine on theirs.
Wes Welker 2.0? Except faster, much, much faster.
Since he is such a small guy, I’m assuming his hands are relatively small so he should benefit from playing for the Patriots where the ball is softer and not quite so big around. BWAHAHAHA.
with a good QB, Saunders may become Wes Welker-redux in NE’s offense….
Looks like we’re not the only program with this problem. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaaf-dr-saturday/freshman-wr-packs-up-and-leaves-sdsu-without-telling-coaches-175250519.html
funny enough we recruited that guy hard
Luckily for us we did not land him. Although part of him leaving may have to do with the fact he was being recruited hard by power house schools and because of academics he ended up at sdsu.
Kids forget sometimes the work you gotta put in after you’re done with HS football…it’s not easy, but it’s great once you are there and have your head on straight. Some kids just don’t love football as much as they love the attention from recruiting.
Man, that story is amazingly familiar.
Are we there yet…? This is taking F-O-R-E-V-E-R!
Following recruiting is a headache sometimes. I wonder how much recruiting will change for the next 2 years if OU makes some noise. Obviously all starts with this year.
Playmakers on offense want to play in exciting systems. Riley will be responsible for that.
I really hope the offense just explodes this year. Exciting offensive play attracts top defensive players as well.
Yep…If the offense can block and not turn it over this team is going to be just fine. I think the D is going to turn the corner this year, hopefully before a loss
OU just needs a QB. Everything else will flow from there. Landry wasn’t a championship caliber QB and neither are any of these guys. I think that’s been our biggest problem.
Plus OL must gel and secondary must improve. Talent everywhere is high.
Yep. Secondary was very young. Even with that being the case, if we had a championship caliber OU QB, they don’t look as bad as they did last year.
Agree QB is pivotal and can help cover other areas. “Biggest problems ” for OU the last few years might have been on the sidelines. One has moved on and the other has moved ‘up’.
Landry excelled and wasn’t even in the right system.
That’s alot of beef…
https://twitter.com/bartonsimmons/status/638822589972901889
No wonder they are favored in the SEC!! But, I think W/O a QB, it will be still hard to win the big ones.
SEC fans get so mad when they think other conferences are getting more love than them, its comical.
They are stupid that way. But, to be honest, I like watching the SEC play compared to Big10 or Pac12 (ofcourse not Big12 considering my bias). The rough run heavy offenses and the mediocrity of QB play always makes the game even and fun to watch (though SEC fans will argue that as good defense).
I agree. SEC is always overrated, but the intensity of the rivalries and the syle of play does make for some very exciting football. The fans are mentally unbalanced, and that’s fun, too.
Never miss the CBS afternoon game and it never fails to surprise.
They also have a dope with a headset. Enjoy 8-5, Baton Rouge.
Even The Hat might be able to win with this group.
Sounds gimmicky to me- Has anyone found a hat to fit Lester’s head yet?
Yes, it has D U N C E written on it and its kinda rocket shaped, but it fits him perfectly
I can’t see any twitter posts on my phone or tablet like I used to, does anyone else have that problem?
I can see them on my phone but not all the links in the daily news works for me.
anybody remember DeOndre Clark and the posts on him?
Obligatory Tyrie Cleveland hype comment.
He doesn’t need hype to be special. Dude is off the charts.
I’m the new and improved Stephen Dale!!!!!!!!! oh wait ………………………………..there we go………………………yes…………….more dots………………..the better…………………………..
This seems a little dramatic “And Walker will end up being one of the most critical recruits in Oklahoma high school’s recent history.” Care to elaborate Brandon?
Just as I predicted months ago, Draper will not stay committed to O-State. In fact, he’s not really committed now, if he’s still entertaining and publicizing recruiting calls from other schools.
No 2017 kid is committed. And to be honest about 50% of 2016 kids are committed. A lot of flipping will go on. I can name several that we flipped last year mbanasor, Humphrey, ford, and McKinney. I just hope we don’t lose any of our top recruits.

Just like Traber, I think next year is our year…………………….
The schedule deems it……………
Sorry but there is NOTHING just like Traber, thank God!
I understand, but philosophically speaking, it does look REAL good for NEXT year…………
In Deano language, I’d bet that 50% of the time Traber’s mouth is open, he’s talking about himself- the other 50% probably involves ingestion.
All that aside, do you not believe the schedule next year is extremely favorable for OU?
Tell us what you think, Auntie Social.
Just shows up and starts blathering?
I’ll pass.
I couldn’t help myself. It was sitting right there and I couldn’t pass it up. Sorry, EasTex, I know I shouldn’t feed the trolls.
Yes, EasTex you’re views are highly respected, I just came out of nowhere and gave this site mine. Anything wrong?
I breathed OU football since 1973, I’m 50 yrs old. I dont watch anything else but OU football….maybe OU baseball, gymnastics, softball, basketball, track, and the THUNDER and what ever NFL teams our boys our on.
anybody else?
Everybody is a Yankee fan. 😉
Not too much of a MLB fan, but I did like the 70’s Cards, Dodgers and Orioles
Ohio St in Norman sounds a little challenging… I’m pretty darned stoked and confident about his season so yes, if the guys can stay healthy and continue to grow/learn, there’s no reason that they wouldn’t be better next year.
I’m confident that OU has returned and this is the beginning.
this. tOSU will be a challenge no way around it….this season is much much easier to navigate
I’d bet that 50% of the time Traber’s mouth is open, I’m having 100% indigestion.
Last year set up perfect too and look what happened. I think people focus too much on schedules.
What’s our home record, yes it got bit with a couple of “should not have lost” but overall the win/loss is incredible,
The home record under stoops is still better than most every other school during that time frame but I’m just saying last year was set up and we blew it so who’s to say next year is set up for us.
Just my opinion w/o Heupul, no MS on sideline, ALL Db together…little things.
But we’re talking about next year when this year hasn’t happened.
Exactly, I think the new system is gonna take time, not instantly.
I’m not one to look a full season ahead.
I wouldn’t be so sure; I saw a feral pig that’d been hit by a semi. That was pretty close.
I thought I might like you until you mentioned Traber.
BoomerSooner, where are you? We have another super villain: Auntie Social.
Sooner Ray and Dustin, leave your post and stop watching Whaley. TFB Posters, Assemble!!!
BoomerSooner’s bride might be downloading their new baby boy.
That’s right. BoomerSooner will soon have another reason to get excited about the start of each season.
LOL!
And another reason to be sleep deprived.
Didn’t he say they are going have a girl?
Norma?
JJ, hello. How are you tonight?
I am ok…. How are you??? Honestly I am admiring how much better the site looks & is easier to navigate on my laptop vs phone/ipad lol
I’ve been great. The season is finally here and I can’t contain my excitement. This site is awesome.
I am very excited. Wont be in Norman Saturday for the first time in ages & that makes me sad. But I figure I will make it up in Knoxville.
Howdy, ma’am.
Got us another year of Sooner football staring us in the face.
How is that banged up leg doing?
Hey! I am good, its really sore tonight though. I don’t think I will ever be over it. How are you? I am opening the season at South Bend. If someone gets killed/beaten/arrested for yelling Boomer in a bar full of texsa & ND fans, you will know it was me…
When you told me how badly injured you I was concerned that could be a long term issue.
I just gagged when I saw where you will be. No one despises and hates the hunchback leprechauns more than I do, couple that with the wHorns and I just felt a way of nausea.
Yeah, I “owe” the return trip. Plus I’ll head to Knox on Thursday, so it could be worse. There are going to be long term issues for sure. I am not naïve about it, but ive exceeded all the expectations by the specialist in Dallas as well. But it’ll never be even 85%. But HEY “we beat bama” quoting my mother lol
I still shudder at the prospect of being surrounded by all those derps on both sides.
ND/tx??? oh yeah, the drivel of self importance will be epic
Just remember to breathe properly at all times.
my vaccinations are up to date
Glad you have that going for you. 🙂
I will be Norman 2016 for tOSU. I live in Ohio but I refuse to go to games agains WVU. Rough crowd.
I understand!
Nosir, a boy.
If it’s a boy, he should be dubbed: Norman
I like it. I hope his bride is all in with that.
… You want to go where people know, people are all the same
You want to go where everybody knows your name.
That was a good show. They don’t make’m like that anymore.
Norm!
They already know it will be/is a boy.
OMG, I BLEED CRIMSON, I’m 50 yr old who just figured out how to post to this site today! LONG time follower and I didn’t know there was a msg “club” to ask permission to join. I guess I should have introduced myself properly…..
My name is Richard and I live in Roland, OK. Right on the bridge to Fort Smith Arkansas. I LOVE OU without the koolaid since I’ve had season tickets since Gibbs, Blake and Shnellenberger.
Anyone know how to trace IP’s of posters to see who’s old Handle/IP matches their
new?
I’m going to leave Auntie Social alone. Remember, she somebody’s mother and aunt.
I’d rather just give whoever a fair shake unless I know for certain it’s a poser.
RBear, she’s annoying. Nuf said. Can you change your icon back to Charles Bronson to scare her away?
Consider it done.
………….Don’t be scared, since I’ve figured this out, I’ll be posting a whole bunch brother……………more dots?…………………………
Calling me Brother? I just took up for you… I’d be careful if I were you little mister.
As in OU Brothers, not gonna start ish……
Sorry, this is a bit silly. The only thing that poster expressed was that next year might be the year. Why should you assemble a gang to drive out someone that expresses an opinion you disagree with? Or am I missing something?
Eric, this cat is annoying. No one can be that annoying and not know it. This was a post to EasTex: “Yes, EasTex you’re views are highly respected, I just came out of nowhere and gave this site mine. Anything wrong?”
I don’t do annoying.
in reply to EAS TEX POST: Just shows up and starts blathering?I’ll pass.
Good lord what have I missed
That’s what happens when you read the last page of a book first
haha… so go to oldest comments first & figure it out?
or sort by oldest
what I meant
Auntie Social introduction was all about “Me.” The proper introduction is, as I’ve seen so many times, as was my introduction to TFB goes something like this: “I’ve been following for a while but this is my first post…”
Not Auntie Social. Eric thinks I’m over reacting. I disagree. Auntie Social is annoying.
Anti
But, you can feel free to have her over for a sleepover.
Makes me suspicious when someone who has a total of 4 posts and hadn’t posted in 4 months shows up and triples their comment count in a matter of minutes.
I’m sorry, I didn’t realize there was a first time poster limit…….
or seond
or third…………………
and all of tis below is indeed ANNOYING
Yes, it is.
it should probably be anti-social not auntie as clearly this poster is socially a wave maker
I saw the Anne T. Social and I knew what she was going for. However, I didn’t go with the obvious. I wanted to have some fun. LOL!
clearly a social moron
Yup.
Hello… is that you Beergut??? what I really want to ask
See, annoying.
Edit:
good lord I ve been on 10 minutes or so & now I am annoyed by below
Exactly.
What did I miss?
silliness
I don’t believe it.
It’s twue…it’s twue!
Is it twue what they say?
…

Auntie Social is making a great, first, impression.
It seems he’s trying to make amends, although half-heartedly. He has a LOT of work to do after mentioning Traber and D. Clark in the same day.
LOL!
You need to go save your buddy, Sooner Ray. He just made contact.
Hey, I just walked in from a dove hunt and had no idea what was going on here….lol.
It’s comical. I believe it Castor Troy Boy.
How are your thumbs?
Everything is good and dove rolled up in an enchilada isn’t too bad either. 🙂
That’s some tasty bird, but dang I used to wear my thumb nails and cuticles raw.
OKAY, so my sense of humor didn’t go over very well. Glad to find you guys and I’m not a poser, just a real Sooner ’til I die….But I’m here now!!! LOL
good enough, now stay in line 😉
He came on a little strong, but let’s give him a chance. It’s game week… everybody be happy!
yes, I am SOOOOOOOOOO EXCITED!!
Ok, take it down a notch and you might want to scrap the schtick. It is a little irritating. Just talk football.
BOOM!!!
Boom, it is! I like it.
Wait, who did we get?
No one, sorry- just changed my profile pic back to what it used to be by request.
My apologies for any increase in Blood Pressure.
Whom???????
see below- not a Denzel Boom, just a fan Boom
sad sad face
yeah, i know- i owe you a beer
yay!! he said beer!
IPA?
I prefer Dark, Belgian Beers brewed by Monk’s
I like IPAs. I love shiner. Looooove shiner lol
Shiner’s good
Its my official football season diet…
Everyone panic!
You should be banned for at leas a hour for that.
an hour? ok, I’ll run to the store and buy more… BEER!
Never shout “Fire!” in a crowded theater, and never post “Boom!” without a Denzel.
At least I woke a few of your sorry asses up eh? 🙂
LOL! True. You dropped a cyber grenade there, my friend.
Dang it.
Sorry about the heart burn, RBear.
No prob- I can handle it
Not alone, you aren’t.
https://youtu.be/4CWOt7sgEhE
Im ready to hit the field now.
If that video doesn’t get you motivated then you need to reassess your reasons for being on this site
Put me in, Coach!
I love this state. I love this game. I love this team.
RR, you are one of my favorite posters.
You, Sam, are my dude. [Chest bump!]
And you know what? Those frickin’ uniforms are a huge part of the goosebumps for me, C-L-A-S-S-I-C
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qR3rK0kZFkg
LOL!
That is just as scary as it is hilarious. I kept reaching towards the screen anticipating a fall.
I know. My little one tries to take head first dives constantly and it kills me every time he falls. He’s working on the walking thing (not off the counter, mind you). I’m thinking about getting him a helmet.
That was like drinking 5 coffees lol
I swear if the Akron football team watched that vid they’d be down 14-0 before the game even begins.
Um, Coach? Can we go kill something, now?
I sure would like to hear that recited by George C. Scott (as General George Patton)- that would make me cry I think.
Bonstonker’s Inception score behind a montage of LSU is the best ever.
We gotta work on ours.
Bonstonker? That’s a Hans Zimmer score isn’t it?
Si.
https://vimeo.com/110868469
Gotcha- yes, I agree that ours should as powerful as this one.
I agree, that is an awesome hype video. Will watch that many times. I hope I see the team chant “Eye of the Champion”.
Walker >> Barnett or Wariboko???
Combined??
Yes
http://www.volnation.com/forum/tennessee-vols-football/242219-confident-oklahoma-fans.html
Interesting thread.
I think the original poster made a bunch of that crap up. LOL
Hello, MY real name is Slick Rick. Sorry if my monicker “anne t social” offends you, but I’m really just here to pass my thoughts and opinions on my beloved Sooners. That’s all, Im new… I’m out there, I am different. Glad to meet y’all!
If your momma calls you Slick….I’m gonna call.you Slick, nice to meet ya.
You gone and done it now.
I ain’t skeered. ?
Okie dokie then. By all means……….

Let’s talk a little football.
I keep hearing how this offense is simple to learn but looks complex from the standpoint of the defense. Exactly how does Riley do this? Is it that he has basic concepts (high-low, flood, 4 verticals, slant-flat, curl-flat) with slight modifications (adding a route here and there) and running those concepts out of multiple formations? I know Leach used to use a lot of simple option routes (sit against zone, run out versus man) so I would imaging he does that as well to add a little more flexibility to the offense. Anyone have any thoughts?
In my opinion, what will make this offense simple is that OU will be in attack mode. You can put in a tight end and have him block a defender, congest things; or, you can have the tight end run a route, occupying a defender, which is as effective as blocking and you create space for others to operate.
My point: you attack the defense with every person eligible to carry the ball. If they have to account for a player, they are being defensive, not playing defense. That’s what makes it simple.
That is true, but it is true many offenses. Heup didn’t use the TE enough in my opinion.
Riley, Leach, Holgerson, etc have very thin playbooks (if they print playbooks at all!) and yet are very successful.
There is an old (1999) OU playbook on the internet (attached below). I’m sure Riley runs a version of this that is many times removed, but the basic concepts remain: have players confident in what they are doing, get players in space and create advantageous matchups, and spread the defense out. Making the defense cover from sideline to sideline for 50 yards is a tough proposition. Also, you can see that many of the plays are flexible, so you don’t have to audible constantly to get into a “better” play.
http://www.bucksweep.com/spreademandshredem/playbooks/1999%2520Oklahoma%2520Offense%5B1%5D.pdf
Attack mode, is that up, up + kick x 3?
What’s going on, L? Didn’t see you post much today.
I’m keeping it real, which means too many equations and meetings.
…
http://mediacdn.snorgcontent.com/media/catalog/product/d/e/dearmath_frontpage.gif
I don’t know how Riley does it but if I’m a D coordinator looking at Shep and Dede with Perine and Mixon in the backfield…..I’m not sleeping well the night before the game. 🙂
I’m going with Baxter as the sleeper in this offense.
I’ll go with Mead. I think he will be the Red Zone beast.
Along with Andrews (in the red zone)
And Mixon….
Him too, or Todd or Green or Meier or…..
So many weapons… think Riley is Jones’n?
He has to be just giddy having so much talent to work with, along with the most knowledgeable Air Raid OL coach in the country.
We have some nice problems.
It much more refreshing to play your best player rather than playing the best you have.
True story. Coach Dennis Parker(now the Idabel HC) took the UNT job after taking my old high school to a state championship. He was just getting settled into his office when the Dallas Morning News came by for an interview. When the DMN brought up UNT’s season opener against OU he was asked if was able to sleep at night. Coach Parker said he slept just like a baby…he woke up every few hours screaming and crying. LOL!
Vince Lombardi use to lecture for an hour on how to run just one play. I think that Coach Riley perfects the routes ,timing, and execution, to a point where each play will produce a most likely result each time it is run.
Someone posted a link to an extensive study of the Riley offense a few weeks ago that was well done. Like an idiot, I didn’t bookmark it.
Thanks, I’ll google it
http://oubreakdown.com/what-you-need-to-know-about-our-new-offense/
here you go.
If you go to his site during the season, he will often break down the game in interesting ways. I believe he has been or is a coach at H.S. level, or something
Thanks, kind sir.
Thanks
Someone else may have posted it as well but I believe I did at one point.
Okay here is my predicted finish for the B12:
1. OU—much better D and O and kicking game this
year. Think OU finishes anywhere from 10-2 to 12-0, 11-1 probably.
2. BU—reason I think OU takes them this year. Only
B12 team to 3-peat is OU and it will be difficult for BU to copy that. The reason
I think OU takes them this year is b/c they killed OU the last 2 yrs and it’s
hard to get mentally up for a team you’ve creamed the last 2 yrs. OU will not
have problems getting the players attention and OU is a LOT better team than
they were the last 2 yrs.
3. UT—I think they will be better this year and
will surprise. They have great athletes. I could see UT finishing anywhere from
3rd to 5th this year.
4. WV—probably anywhere from 3rd to 5th also.
5. TCU—yes, I think they fall this year back down
to where they came from. Everything went dreamily perfect for them last year. Don’t
think that happens this year. Probably 4th to 6th place finish for TCU.
6. KSU—probably anywhere from 4th to 6th finish.
7. OSU—I don’t get people’s excitement about OSU. If
not for Hill they lose to KU! (and OU). That’s 2 games and a losing season and
not beating a single good team. They don’t have Hill and I don’t see them
getting THAT much better. Maybe up to 5th, but I don’t see them higher than 5th.
8. TT—I think they have a fairly solid hold on 8th place.
9. ISU—I think they have a fairly solid hold on 9th place.
10. KU—no one will beat them out for 10th place.
Most difficult games in order (IMO):
1. UT—I know people inside the football program and
the pressure on UT to beat OU over every other team is incredible they tell me.
It’s their ONE greatest desire of the entire season. They can take getting beat
by BU or ND or anyone, but they cannot stomach getting beat by OU AGAIN! I
think UT has planned/schemed/drilled/everything on OU far more than any other
team and maybe all the other teams on their schedule put together (just
kidding, but not much). They have great athletes. They have great coaches. They
don’t have a great QB, but they want OU like no other team and I believe it
will be the team we are most likely to lose to if we lose. And, btw, I feel
about them like they feel about us. I’d rather lose to any other team on our
schedule, including BU again or OSU, than UT.
2. BU—usually I’d pick BU to beat OU this year, but
I think BS is one of the winningest coaches of all time for a reason. I think
OU takes BU this year, but if we lose, BU would be the team I’d pick 2nd
on our schedule to beat us.
3. UT—think we beat them, but they’d be my 3rd choice of teams to beat us.
4. Anybody between KSU, OSU, TCU, WV—all about
equal opportunities to beat us, IMO. I think we beat them all, personally.
Before Herbstreet picked OU, I also thought we’d be very good and can beat anyone on the schedule.
Defense:
D-backs: MUCH improved. I think we have 3 studs:
Parker, JThomas and Sanchez—can play with anyone. AThomas and Byrd will be
better in 2nd yr to see B12 Os, and I am guessing the B12 refs will
help them out by throwing more flags when teams cheat and send OL downfield and
then pull up and throw making them look stupid for giving up the pass—like they
should! Backups much better than we had last year, some Parker-like athletes
themselves having a year probably about like Parker had last year (which was
pretty good). Plus, better communication and more pressure this year on QBs and
I expect to see a jump from 117th to top 50 or better which is a
HUGE jump in overall improvement in our D.
LBs: much improved and much better depth.
DL: Tapper wasn’t healthy last year; he’s better
than he was 2 yrs ago when he was B12. IF, we are not as good in our replacement
of Phillips, we are making up for that in our improvement of Tapper ’15 over
Tapper ’14. He wasn’t well last year. Not real sure we lose any overall play by
losing Phillips for 2 reasons: one, it wasn’t a D that took advantage of his
pressure anyway, and two, he took too many plays off. This will be an attack D
and as a result Romar/Wade/Overton and Walker/Dimon should be better if for no
other reason than that. Much better depth than last year.
Striker will be used to do what he does. He’s as
good a pass rusher as anyone anywhere, but he only attacked the QB about 25% of
the plays if I recall last year. This year look for it to be about 75%. We are
MUCH better all around him and depth: Bond is a stud, plus DeBerry, Obo=very good.
Yes, I think there will be a huge jump in the D performance this year. There should
be a noticeable difference. I’d like to see us average holding teams to about 3
less pts or more than last year. Let me explain. I don’t care about the scores
other teams made last year against special teams or pick 6s. I’m talking about
what teams actually scored against our D. With our O running many more plays
and probably series and as a result, scoring more themselves, a 3 pt less or
more on D would be a big improvement, IMO. It sounds like the D has been making
more TOs in practices which is a mindset; hopefully, that carries over into the season.
Offense:
QBs: This will be the biggest difference in this
team this year. I think either TK or Mayfield can lead this team to beat anyone
in the country, esp. in this O. And, there is a chance we end the season with
TK b/c we have had a history of QB injuries. I don’t think there is much
difference between the two and we will be already with either one, but as you
know, I’ve always thought I saw that Mayfield was clearly the best QB. Better QB=much
better team this year.
RBs: Wow. I think people are crazy to forget
Ross, too. Remember: The recently released depth chart is a fluid thing in a
position like RB or WR, but regardless, we are pretty good at RB. I do not
believe that there is a team in the U.S., maybe including some NFL teams, I’d
trade our RBs for theirs.
WRs: I think Shep is as good as any WR in the
U.S. He’s incredible. He was averaging about 140 yds a game when he went down.
If Dede is anywhere close to him, I don’t have words. Neal will be much better
in this system and will surprise, but 3 starters from last year (Young, Quick,
Neal) have been passed by Dede, Andrews and perhaps others, and they are better
themselves than last year (older). Yeah, we have the system, QB, RBs, to have a
great passing game. I am wanting 2 out of every 3 passes to be completed this
year (66%). That’s my goal. That’s helps Perine/Mixon/etc. I think if we don’t
go too many times 3 incomplete passes in a row, we should do pretty well on O
against anyone.
OL: Darlington told me that St. John was
incredibly gifted lineman. He got beat out by Brown—that’s why St. John was
moved to RT, not b/c he was good! Yep, I think, b/c of that, we are pretty good
at OT if those two don’t get hurt. I think Bedenbaugh is basically filling in
one more position, LG, and Alverez was good enough to play some with tons of
experienced guards last year as a FR. I think the OL will be fine.
I am hoping our O scores at least 7 pts more a game than
last year with not more than one TO in the biggest games: UT, UT, BU, OSU, KSU,
WV, TCU. If we only have one TO in those games, I think we win all of them. We
might can win them anyway, but one or less I think we can beat anyone. But, don’t
forget, when you play great teams, they are great b/c they get TOs sometimes,
and hopefully OU can get some themselves and win anyway.
Coaches:
I don’t think anyone is better than BS. No one. He will go down in history as one of
the very best ever. He ranks last in the B12 of losing games by 3 or 4 pts or
less. Think about it. He’s one of the winningest coaches of all time, and IF
you do beat him, you know that you’ve done something b/c usually you get out
with a win by the skin of your teeth. I think only 2 times has he had this many
returning starters and we were VERY good that next year, and there are too many
areas on this team that we should be MUCH better in this year. We have depth to
absorb injuries in almost every position this year, including QB IMO, except,
IMO, OL and probably D-backs, esp at safety until the talented backups caught
up with the B12.
Alright, you can’t write that much and not have MANY OU fans
disagree with quite a few points. Let me have it!
Scrap it all… start over.
I kid, I kid.
That is a lot to digest and right now I’m just going to comment on your first section and the big 12 order. I don’t disagree much with your opinions there. I think tcu falls back to earth a bit 2-3 losses in conference. I’m not high on osu either but I think they’re better than ksu and might find themselves in a 3 way race for 3rd with tcu and Texas who I agree will be a better team just not quite sure if they will win the close games. I would predict tcu, osu, texas as 3-5.
I do however think Baylor is still better than ou until I see otherwise. I do agree we can win but I don’t think Baylor will sleep on us at all.
Also I want to add that I don’t think there’s a team more talented than ou in the league. Our top 22 vs any other top 22 in the big 12 and I take ours every time. I mean is there a better running back in the league than Perine? Maybe mixon is better we will have to see, but he’s on our team too. Then you add in striker, tapper, Sanchez, shep, Westbrook. And baker is probably a top 3 qb in this conference. I think fans should be more excited. I hear a lot of fans say 9-4 would be the ceiling.
9-4 is the ceiling? I would think the whole 2 deep would have to get hurt for 9-4. We were a few good bounces from being an entirely different team last year. To me, we’re a lot closer to running the table than pooping the pants
My man. Just what I need to hear.
How’s your wife? Getting closer?
Make sure to let us know.
We had our baby boy. Thanks for asking
WHOO-HOO!!
Congratulations!!!
Are Mom and the baby fine?
Weight?
Name?
Doing ok. Infection and blood sugar issue for baby. He’s over his blood sugar deal tho. Now just getting rid of his funk. Hopefully they let him go home tomorrow. 6lbs 14 oz. Brock is his name
OUtstanding.
How’s Dad?
Dad’s wore the heck out. Braxton Hicks kept us to 4 hrs sleep. Then yard duty. Pack up big bro and big sis to go to the grandparents. Then hospital. Then baby. Then wake us up to give my wife a sleeping pill. Oh and I’ll be 56 when he’s ready for college. Hopefully mlb for OU
Danged ol’false labor.
Well, my sincerest best wishes to you and your young family. May you all be blessed with good health and happiness.
Thank you kind sir
I will be 60 when my first goes then 61 on my second so gotcha beat.
Brock BoomerSooner, solid name.
I’ll be praying. I’ve put this out there before: my wife’s an RN. If you have any questions about what the doctors are saying, let me know. She’ll be happy to decipher for you.
Thank you brother. I appreciate it
Awesome!
Congrats, brother!! Viney call yet? I feel like he’ll be a DB.
Grampy’s 6’4. So maybe a Kam Chancellor type if he’s blessed to get his height
With a name like Brock, I’m leaning more towards LB.
Yeah. Hopefully he’s a bigsum with that name. Went with Owen for middle name for the best patch of turf in the land
His nickname could be Gaylord. 🙂
Haha. No thanks….focker
HA!
Nice.
I want to see his hands.
Have to wait. IV’s are blocking the view. Just wait on it…haha
Okay.
Poor little guy.
He is. I think he’s our fighter. He’s quiet and just takes everything in. Rivals needs to go ahead and give him a star
A star and a page.
I was the youngest of three so I already view him as a kindred spirit.
Wow!
Tall QB as I’m sure he has an arm due to ole dad. I like it, QB it is.
Congrats!
Congratz!
congrats bro
Thank you brother. You do have me beat. Big time. You got a late start too huh?
There he is!
I agree, with just a kick here or a first down there OU could have been 11-2 last year.
As much as I would have loved it we’d a few more, last season was one of the best things that has happened to OU in the past few years.
The OU brand is strong. How many teams can have that kind of season and still land the class we did last year?
Luck and good fortune with injuries play into it. We weren’t that far off from having a much better record last year. Should be an exciting year with a lot of new players and coaches.
Have you spoke to OUr fans? You would think we had Blake as the head coach. I agree with you I think 11-2 is most likely this year but if stoops gets the team motivated all year then we could run the table and you never no what could happen in the playoff.
Spoiled and entitled sounds about right
Indeed.
I would match our starting 22 with any other team in our conference and further, our 2 and 3 deep on both sides of the ball far exceed our opponents depth in terms of talent.
I think OU wins big12. TCU second with two losses. Baylor crumbles under ego and fallout from rape cases. Many, many in press in Texas calling for Briles to be fired. Not sure about other finishes except Texas goes no better than 7-5 and coach is fired. Baka goes 8-4 or 9-3 and Saban is hired by Texas for 10 million a year. Remember you heard it here first. Rumor is that Saban is getting happy feet again and a sub-par season might be just enough to send him on his way.
You put a lot of effort and time into this.
I have no major quibbles with any of it, but I would like to point out Young is no longer on the team.
thx. didn’t know
That’s a lot. This deserves a response. It’s clear you put some thought into this. I believe this will be the year. I don’t know if it will be pretty every week but it might.
Two reasons:
1. Offense. I won’t go into anymore than saying that Riley will be a mad scientist and he will dream up some sick s**t for defenses to worry about.
2. Stoops has been stock piling on the defensive line for three classes. It didn’t take long as he’s been working overtime to get DL help. I think this unit will lead the nation in sacks. DBs will be better. They’re young but they have the confidence and short memory you need to be great.
Up vote if for nothing but the work alone to think that much. I think you made some great points, could see a lot of that happening.
I was going to say the same.
14-0. National Champs.
With or without Whaley?
I couldn’t pass that up. LOL!
Once without. Thrice with.
great thoughts. i want to add i think the Sugar bowl victory was an indication more for this year than last.
good point. me too
For the record, I hope you are correct. But that’s a lot or writing without much analysis. It reminds me of someone at the roulette table saying “it’s been black the last 5 times…it’s gotta be black again”. Which makes about as much sense as “it’s been black the last 5 times…no way will it be black again”.
I’m not going to address every line so I’ll just jump on the TCU prediction. You said “everything went dreamily perfect” for TCU last year. I watched all of their games and they appeared to be the most talented team on the field in every single game they played. It wasn’t a matter of ‘the ball bouncing right’… they were a great team. I think they would have beat BU 8 out of 10 times. Then, they were unfortunate to not be included in the playoff. It was quiet opposite of dreamily perfect. Every year there are teams that disappoint despite having every reasonable reason to be great. We see it on all levels in all sports. It’s possible TCU falls off this year. I don’t think you could have predicted their rise last year. I don’t think you can analytically predict a fall this year.
To anyone. Did anyone watch the Euless Trinity-De La Salle game Saturday night? If so isn’t it a NCAA violation for a University to host a practice at a prospects high school? Reason I ask is during the broadcast they said Cal held a practice at De La Salle to impress a lineman!
I did and heard them talking about that, along with parking their team bus at DLS just because. I don’t know if their practice there is a ncaa violation or not.
I could be wrong but could’ve sworn it was but I’m not a expert lol
Wouldn’t surprise me if it was a violation just like their rolling stops
Lol
Me either. I have enough matters of my own clouding up the grey matter without remembering the ncaa rule book. 🙂
I know the feeling. I’ve been off work since April when I fractured my c2 . Just had fusion surgery and wires put in my neck July 30rh
Dang, son!!!
That is one scary injury. Hope your recovery is total and rapid.
It’s going ok so far. I’m just thankful to be alive and walking
Man, you are indeed fortunate. That could have been a life ending or altering injury.
I wonder if the team DLS being in Texas made it NCAA-approved?
Anyone else see Ed Oliver’s tweet a few mins ago?? Maybe Tyrie wasn’t supposed to tell anyone?
Probably because Oliver is still a UH commit.
I got to see him in action a little on those live look-ins last Friday night, that young man can play.
Do you still think Oliver will come with Tyrie. Even after this tweet and Oliver a UH commit still. I hope he comes and likes Norman.
You are asking me what a 17-18 year old will or will not do? 🙂
Opinion more or less. I guess I’m 21 I should know this haha.
Ha.
I wouldn’t venture a guess, but Oliver seems certain.

Now that’s funny my friend.
A few days ago someone reported that a visitor was coming that could not be named because they were committed and if word got out they would not make the trip. Maybe it Oliver. If so that sucks because I think if we could get him here we could have a chance.

Can’t wait to see him in the Crimson & Cream!
I really like this young man.
He’s like cyborg ripped
