10 BOLD Season Predictions

We are exactly 4 days away from the start of OU’s football season! With that, I’d like to put out 10 bold predictions about the 2014 Oklahoma Sooners.

1. Samaje Perine will lead the team in rushing by the end of the year: Yes, Alex Ross and Keith Ford have both been put out there as the leaders heading into game one. From all accounts, both have had excellent camps. I just have a feeling that Perine will be the leading rusher by the end of year. He has the speed. He also is built like a house. Hence, his nickname, “Baby House”. He’s had a stellar fall camp and my gut says he’ll rush for 700+ yards this season. It’ll be a running back by committe aproach, no doubt. Perine will lead that committe by years end.

2. Eric Striker will break OU’s season sack record: The record is held by Martin Chase, at 14. OU has such a versatile blitz package with Obo, Grissom, Striker and Alexander that I’m going on record with him getting 15. There’s a reason Mike Stoops calls him the best blitzer he’s ever coached.

3. Michiah Quick will hold freshman receiving record: Quick has been raved about all fall camp. He’s they type of guy that is hard to tackle in a phone booth. I’m calling it. He’ll break the freshman receiving record for yards by seasons end.

4. OU will have 3 All Americans:  It’s been since 2008 that OU has had this much talent on the field at the same time. Thus, OU will be well represented in the All American lists. Striker, Honeycutt and Phillips will all be on multiple All American lists.

5. OU will struggle at TCU: That game is the epitome of a trap game. It’s on the heels of a tough road game at West Virginia, and a precursor to a second trip to the DFW, in as many weeks, where OU will face it’s biggest rival Texas. All of that just screams trap. OU wins, but not without a massive struggle.

6. Trevor Knight will rush pass for 2500 yards and rush for 500: Knight is gifted. We all know that. He seemed to be coming into his own at the end of the year. It culminated in a performance for the ages vs Bama. I don’t think we can expect that Knight every Saturday. The Knight we should expect is the Kansas State Trevor Knight. That Knight should win you every game. Now, consistency is whole other issue.

7. OU will beat Texas by 3 touchdowns: Stoops doesn’t take losing particularly well. You add how OU played against their biggest rival last year and Stoops will have his guys prepared. Stoops plays the revenge card very well. I’m betting he does here, all the while, showing Charlie Strong just how big of a stage this rivalry sits on.

8.  Steven Parker leads OU in interceptions this season: There’s a reason why Parker was sought after so much. The guy is a playmaker. Coaches are raving about him so much that he is going to get significant playing time at one of the safety positions. Just a gut feeling here. Parker has 5 picks this season.

9. OU will be ranked number 1 more that two weeks: The hype machine is the most crucial cog in college football. Programs live by it and thrive by it. OU has the hype at a ridiculous level right now. With all of that working in OU’s favor, they’ll grace the top of the polls for multiple weeks.

10. OU will make the playoffs as the 2 seed: Hard to imagine anyone, other than Florida State, being the one seed come playoff time. The ACC isn’t very strong and FSU is just THAT talented. The other 3 teams with the most talent are Bama, OU and Oregon, arguably. Oregon in the Pac 12, and Bama in the SEC west, makes both teams more vulnerable than OU.  OU has all of its toughest games(on paper) at home. Thus, a two seed would seem more fitting for OU, than the others.

Let’s here some of you guys BOLD predictions for the season!

Those are actually BOLD predictions. You are not a wuss my friend 🙂

  • Brian says:

The only way Trevor doesn’t hit 2500/500 is if he’s injured at any time.

  • Sooner Ray says:

I can’t be as BOLD as you Drake, but I do think texsa will suffer a major defeat.

Like the bold predictions. Ou will be number 1 for 2+ weeks and be a 2 seed. So do they lose a game? If so who? Thanks for these posts it’s a great addition to the site.

  • Steven says:

    2 things,

    1) It’s actually Hunnicutt

    2) But really, It’s MONEYcutt.

  • Steven says:

    My bold prediction:

There will be multiple shut outs this year, and multiple wins over other Big XII teams by 5 scores or more.

    • Super K says:

I could see a couple shutouts. I’ll need to see how the inexperience at secondary looks because I could see some busts early that might keep us from getting those goose eggs but I definitely think it’s possible.

      • Steven says:

Personally, I think that Tulsa and Kansas might be our best bets. I liked the way that the defense looked with all the starters in (and Evans probably should’ve stayed in longer but it happens).

I’m really excited to see our 1st teamers on the field for an entire game, even if it means a closer game.

    • TheDrakeOU says:

I definitely could see multiple shutouts.

  • Kdubracing says:

I’m thinking very similar to you in a lot of ways. I also believe a lot of people are selling guys like Ross, Ford, Ahmad Thomas a little short. I love the shiny new toys (Perine, Parker, Quick, etc.) as much as anyone else and think those guys will all be outstanding in their time here. They are also true freshman. They’ll see the field and do well out there, but my gut is pushing me toward Young, Ross, Ford, Thomas etc. blowing up now that it’s their turn. The beautiful thing is the fact that this is the argument. Not who do we have, but who is gonna be all world. They’ve all got a shot.

  • boomersooner says:

don’t we have a week off for tcu. i think we do. i think that helps get the focus on them and off wv and tex

  • Won says:

Man I hope to hear the national media learn how to say Perine…
    Samaje Perine = sa-MA-jay P-rine = “say-my-name” P-rine…
    BOOMER!

  • Kenny Myers says:

    The Drake = Josh McCquiston

  • Daryl says:

    1. OU wins big XII but is snubbed out of playoff because committee takes 2 SEC schools.

    2. We have to go to OT to beat Tech by 3.

    3. Striker doesn’t lead team in sacks this season.

  • Shelby is a Patriot says:

    Number 8!
