Open Post | Thursday, Jun. 9th

Summer Workouts: The players are back on campus and with their return, summer workouts have commenced. The team held their first 7-on-7 session yesterday and while most of the newcomers are still going through the process of getting cleared by the medical staff, one true freshman, DE/OLB Mark Jackson, was able to take part. Considering how much OU lost in terms of their pass rush and at LB, the hope is that Jackson can come in and have an immediate impact.

As you would expect, Jackson’s first day was more about getting his feet wet (so to speak) and learning the calls. Though we were told Jackson showed up in exceptional shape and clearly put in considerable work since the spring. And there is every reason to believe he will only continue to get bigger and stronger as he spends the summer with Schmitty. – (Super K)

– Creed Humphrey Returns: Brandon was out at OU’s ‘elite’ camp on Wednesday and passed along that that 2017 OL Creed Humphrey (Shawnee, OK) was in attendance. As we mentioned in yesterday’s Open Post, Humphrey is nearing a decision and will visit Texas A&M this weekend.

Humphrey making a second visit to Norman in such a short time would seem like a good thing and can only help continue to strengthen his relationship with the OU staff. – (Super K)

Great to hear on Jackson – I think he could be big time for us

Jackson is a stud. Predicting he’ll be more impactful than Striker in the long-run.

  • ouwooferman says:

Creed has a nasty OL look. Same look that the Pittsburge Steelers Line had back when Bradshaw was the QB. We need nasty blockers.

    • Mark_in_VA says:

I’m greedy; I want *all* the Okie players! Our best teams have always had a large Oklahoma contingent on them. I’m lovin’ our start so far, and I want Creed next!

There is a lot of buzz around the entire athletic program right now with all the outstanding results. Jackson has the speed and ability, Striker had the instinct that I hope Jackson can replicate.

The tail numbers on the plane are N4252G. I was looking at the images of the OU planes and it doesn’t appear to be any of the tail numbers that I can see in OU pics. It was a plane registered to a company in Moore, so prayers to the families of the 3 people on board who died in the crash.

It was not deployed according to reports ( and pictures obviously). The three killed were siblings from a Moore family but names have not yet been released.

  • Matt says:

love the note re: Jackson. I won’t be surprised one way or the other if the freshmen linebackers struggle against the run or do pretty well against it. I do think freshmen pass rushers can make a significant impact though especially in a scheme like the Sooners that lets the outside guys attack.

  • j l says:

Would creed stick at C, eventually taking over for alvarez?

    • ouwooferman says:

i dont expect him to kick out any farther than guard. I just wasnt sure if we expected him to stay at C. Seeing as how hes a top 5 C, i would think so, just checking though =)

  • Randy says:

I always think of (7 on 7) as a benefit for offensive skill guys but I can see how it would be huge for a OLB trying to learn the position.. I really like Mark Jackson’s game his speed and size off the edge is something we have not seen..

    • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

It’s definitely geared towards the offensive players but the defense gets a lot of work being spread out and making plays in space.

      • Boom says:

It’s for both. Defense plays both man or zone and there are pic plays and LB is difficult in 7-7. Playing middle of the field on D to me is the hardest position in 7-7.

      • Randy says:

        Agree…

  • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

K, Brandon or anyone in the loop know how Caleb Kelly is looking ( size wise) I really think he can be a special player. I’m thinking he’s gonna lock up that OLB spot opposite Obo and Jackson. That’s if he can learn the plays and minimize his mistake.

  • Fear The Magic says:

I never go to Landthieves but was lead to this quote at the start of a thread through another link.
Take it for whatever its what its worth.

“Couple notes and nuggets for you guys.

    1) Casey Thompson is now Riley’s #1 priority. I’ve been told that 3 times now. Supposedly, Thompson and Riley watched film together this weekend and Thompson was way beyond his years in the film room.

    2) Tre Brown and Trajan Bandy are wavering. Two early commits leaving is never good. But the positive? Looks like Oklahoma is way ahead for new 4* CB Jaylon Johnson out of Fresno. Josh M also posted it out yesterday. The other two Coach Cooks is making priorities for are 2016 CB, Parrish Cobb and Kary Vincent JR.

    3) Everyone is wondering how Wilson’s visit went, and to honestly tell you, I have no clue. The two things I heard from a guy on the team is that they were supposed to give Wilson everything he wanted. I just don’t think it’s enough. Oklahoma must have a successful year again in order to land him in my opinion. I do think the Sooners put themselves in Wilson’s final official visits, but it may take another successful season to land the #1 rated recruit.

    4) I am told CeeDee Lamb is going to take the SEC visit train (Alabama, Auburn, LSU, etc.), visit Texas and Texas A&M, and then make his final decision. I am told he is a MAJOR Oklahoma lean still. Just wants to see what LSU and others have to offer before making his final decision.

    5) Couple words of note to repeat, I continue to feel good at where Oklahoma stands with Addison Gumbs, Jacob Phillips, and Creed Humphrey. The staff is looking at taking four LB’s, and that would leave a spot for Anthony Hines.

    6) I am also told two current Oklahoma players have been asked to find places elsewhere to play. Should be released here within a couple weeks.”

    • Sooner Ray says:

Read that this week, been waiting to see if any news broke on the players possibly leaving.

    • Dick Bump says:

      Is this guy N.A. Stahl?

    • Daryl says:

I think Bandy and Brown stay true to OU. Of the two I more confident in Bandy than I am of Brown.

      • SWoods says:

I tend to agree with you. I get the feeling Bandy is more solid as well.

        • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Trajan has stated multiple times that he does not want to stay home and be trapped in that ghetto any longer. He’s leaving. He seems like a kid that sticks to his commitment. I honestly don’t think either of the young men you just named de commit. Ceedee is going to be interesting. I think he’s goes to LSU but I have no idea because he still interacts with SS17 on Twitter almost every day. We have a long way till signing day so it’s going to be up and down for sure lol

          • kt-raida says:

            Bandy lives in the ghetto?

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Idk if it’s the ghetto, but he’s stated multiple times he wants to get away from south Florida. Same thing as Ahmad Thomas who’s from Miami.

    • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Wavering why? Don’t think you are credible on this. If they are scared good riddance. Grab your spot.

  • metzker says:

  • Brien Brown says:

Soooooooo did we win a championship or something lol! Hope all are having a great Summer so far, I am so ready for football, who has they count down? Great write up on Jackson, I felt Kelly, Jackson, and Youngquest would all be able to make and impact or had the ability to come in make and impact this year. Still remains to be seen and obviously with BY we don’t know. But, still feel real good about Jackson and Kelly and let us not forget DeBerry he could shine this year. Later peeps, oh yea BOOMER!!!

Hey guys. I took at trip up to Norman yesterday along with big Tyrese. Him and Creed along with I. Thomas hung out together the entire camp. Got good vibes on Creed, but like mentioned earlier it’s a toss up between OU and A&M. He did however seem very at ease with SS17. Guess we’ll all know here in about 2 weeks.

    • Lane Gilstrap says:

      Thanks for the inside info.

    • T. Rob says:

And like I said months ago, Hines will be a sooner in the end.

      • Sooner Ray says:

Thanks and please keep us updated.

      • Brien Brown says:

You have any more insight on some kids? Creed is a big boy would love to add him and Hines has been on my wish list for a while now.

        • T. Rob says:

2018 OT D Sampson from Texas is pretty much OU to lose. He works out with Tyrese and I always spend a lot of time talking with his parents. They’re really high on OU and the staff and half of his family is from Oklahoma. I’m going to predict the future and say in 2019 your staring oline would be LT B. Walker LG Dunlap C Humphrey RG Tyrese RT Sampson. Folks with that line up your talking two 6’6 tackles two 6’5 guards and center all over 300 pounds and very athletic for lineman. Talk about opening up holes and QB protection. All of these kids are top 5 at there positions.

          • bommer85 says:

            T. Rob, appreciate the info…any truth to Tre Brown and Trajan Bandy rumors that they are wavering from their commit to OU?

          • T. Rob says:

I think it’s more rumuors then anything. Not saying there’s not a chance but these guys seem very tight. And I’m sure they always wanted to visit certain schools just for the experience. Doesn’t mean they want to go there. This is a once in lifetime moment for these kids. As fans you it’s team over players and for players in highschool it’s you over the team until your actually enrolled. After all they are making big time life decisions on where they will live, eat, work, play, learn and grow furthermore.

      • Boom says:

Anything else you hear while you were there? Also how is our friend mr little.

        • T. Rob says:

Haven’t heard anything back from Little. Heard there was another BOOM coming next week from the coaches. But of course no names were dropped.

          • Boom says:

Cool, appreciate the info. I don’t think little knows what he getting into. Best of luck to him. Can’t wait on the Boom.

          • T. Rob says:

I know. I feel bad for him. He’s a good kid and works hard.

          • Boom says:

I was hoping he would try to get out of his NLI

          • soonerborn says:

Little is being lied to by Ole miss. I talked to him a few weeks ago and he thought for sure this infraction with Tunsail was what he sat out for earlier this year. He said that’s what the coaches told him and they, ole miss will be fine.

          • T. Rob says:

Sounds about right. What can he do at this point.

          • Scott says:

I believe it’s Addison Gumbs from Cali.

      • Jordan Esco says:

Just want to echo others here in thanking you for sharing the info!

    • DCinAZ says:

I hope Reed selects OU. Tyrese needs another OL and knowing who his center is is a good thang!

      • T. Rob says:

I agree. Creed is strong solid kid. They looked pretty good standing next to each other. And Thomas was even taller than them.

        • DCinAZ says:

Thomas is a BIG CAT. Watching his HS film he towers over everybody on his team. A man among boys!

        • T. Rob says:

And that is exactly what you want all on your line. Coach B isn’t wasting time on Filler’s, he’s going after the NFL caliber type of lineman. Don’t be surprised if they only take 3 o lineman this year because in 18′ I’m certain they will fill the remaining spots on the line with some elite studs. After this season OU will be trending with the 5star recruits and landing a guy like Marvin Wilson won’t seem so far of a stretch anymore. Back to the days of top 5 recruiting classes.

    • SoonerSouthoftheRed says:

How can A&M even be a threat at this point. If I was being recruited by a school that has lost as many players as A&M has in recent months, a big red flag would pop up in my mind. Plus the campus is as ugly as the 3rd level of hell. And all male cheerleaders?…that’s three strikes.

      • Jdizzle says:

One of his best friends is committed there…

        • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Who cares? How many good players decommitted and OU still got to the final 4? SMH. Grab your spot or play for Mizzou and A&M LOL.

          • Jdizzle says:

Can’t tell if serious…A&M has been putting first round OL almost on an annual basis, OU’s go in the 4th or later. There is a plus to A&M. And going to school with your best friend is always a strong pull!
