Open Post | Monday, Mar. 28th (UPDATE 9:28 pm)

This past weekend, the Sooners held their first scrimmage of the spring. Additionally, OU also hosted several visitors which included Tyrese Robinson (OU commit), Deiontae Watts (2017 Plano, TX DT), Jalen Reagor (new OU commit), Verone McKinley (2018 CB) & Grayson Reed (2017 Houston, TX OL).

Scrimmage Notes: We will start with some scrimmage notes, separated out based on what each of us heard.

Brandon:

* Dahu Green had a huge day. He had a multiple deep catches and a touchdown. Dede Westbrook also scored a touchdown on a deep ball.

* Jordan Thomas and Kyler Murray didn’t dress out, but no reason to believe it’s anything serious. Just dinged up.

* While the receivers did some good things, there were also some drops, including more than one would-be TD catch.

Super K:

* Also heard Green had a big scrimmage. In terms of offensive players, his was definitely the name I heard mentioned the most. I’m told that if you play off-coverage against Green and give him that kind of space, ‘it’s pretty much over.’ One source also added, “you’re not going to out-jump him. He’s just too big.”

* Like Brandon, I also heard JT did not go. As such, Dakota Austin started at right cornerback and PJ Mbanasor started on the left side. Was told they each had decent days, but both also gave up a deep ball or two.

* One name that may not have been talked about as much as some others who evidently had a fantastic scrimmage, sophomore safety Will Sunderland. In fact, I heard his name mentioned by multiple sources. Kahlil Haughton would still be the first safety off the bench, but I’m told that Sunderland is definitively ahead Prentice McKinney right now and, in general, has really cleaned up issues he had early with regards to alignment and assignment. Sunderland had multiple PBUs during the scrimmage according to those we spoke with.

* Marquise Overton also stood out, but apparently had his day cut short because he got kicked out for fighting with one of the offensive linemen. While some may not like to hear that kind of thing, personally I love to hear about a young guy having that kind of fire! You hear about guys getting into it all the time during camp, competition has a way of doing that to a team. Far as I’m concerned, it’s healthy. And so long as there’s nothing dirty about it, I like to hear these guys are already out there competing like a real game is on the line.

* Was told Neville Gallimore is starting to look better after returning to practice this past week. He had at least one sack in Saturday’s scrimmage.

* Not surprisingly Samaje Perine didn’t go, and Joe Mixon also didn’t get a bunch of reps. Instead, the focus was on getting Rodney Anderson and Daniel Brooks the carries.

* After running with the first team all week, Jamal Danley was moved down and Ben Powers took his spot at right guard.

* However, I continue to be told the best combination ‘by far’ on the offensive line is when they move Dru Samia inside to RG and put Christian Daimler out at RT (Alvarez at C, Ford at LG and Brown at LT rounding out the rest). This was a grouping we mentioned previously the coaches would be experimenting with, and we were again told this combination was easily the most effective during said scrimmage. We continue to hear Daimler is legitimately good enough to start at RT.

* Generally, I’m told the first team defense was very stout and one source indicated it is not simply a case of the offense lacking. The offense scored multiple times, but I was told that when the first team defense was in, it was ‘tough sledding.’

Alex:

* Was told during the scrimmage Baker Mayfield looked like his play-making self from last year. His leadership in the huddle and on the field continues to stand out. It seemed to be hard for those I spoke with to put into words how good Mayfield really was on Saturday and already looks to be in mid-season form, according to one person I spoke with.

* His presumed backup, true freshman Austin Kendall, evidently also had a strong performance. “For someone that should still be in high school, he shows impressive poise out there,” according to one source.

* At RB, it was Rodney Anderson that really stood out Saturday per a source. Anderson ripped off a couple big 25-30 yard runs. One source said that multiple times there were nice runs being made and each time it was Anderson with the ball in his hands.

* One name we heard on the 0-line that stood out Saturday was that of Orlando Brown. I was told Brown moved around really well and had a strong scrimmage overall.

* On defense one name that came up repeatedly was Steven Parker, who looked to be even quicker out there as compared to last year according to one person I spoke with. Which could certainly be a sign as to his level of comfort in this defense and that the game has only continued to slow down for him.

* Charles Walker continues to look the part, one source relaying that his (Walker’s, not the source, haha) arms ‘are just ridiculous.’ It’s clear Walker has been putting in work in the weight room and with his physical ability, he has the chance to be OU’s next DT drafted in the 1st round.

* Kyler Murray did not suit out on Saturday, however I’m hearing he has been showing out this spring so far. I’ve been told the general consensus around the program is that he is one of the most talented QBs the staff has seen in some time. With his quickness and speed, if you give him a crease he can take it to the house. And it sounds like some of that has already been happening in practice.

Grayson Reed: K plans on having a write-up regarding Reed later this week, but I (Alex) wanted to pass on a couple notes regarding some of what I’ve heard. Apparently both the family atmosphere OU is fostering as a program and their momentum on the recruiting scene, along with their success on the field, has really caught Reed’s attention. Reed was in Norman over the weekend with his father, sister and aunt, and the family wound up staying an extra 3-4 hours longer than they had originally planned after the scrimmage was over just chatting with the coaches and taking everything in.

From what I was told, it sounds like there is a possibility a decision could be coming in the near future. While Texas has long been believed to be the team to beat, a source mentioned that right now the battle may actually be between OU and Texas A&M. Now obviously the Aggies have the proximity factor, but there is a feeling the Sooners gave Reed a lot to think about this past weekend. – (Alex)

Deiontae Watts: Had the chance to catch up with 2017 DT Deiontae Watts (Plano, TX) over the weekend following his trip to Norman. And I’ll definitely have more from that conversation in the next day or two, but I just wanted to mention now that Watts said the trip could not have gone any better. Both Watts and his mother told TFB they “absolutely loved” the visit. As we’ve mentioned before, Watts and his family are originally from Oklahoma and are long-time OU fans. In fact, Watts mentioned recently that his mother actually attended OU for ‘a year or two’ at one point. – (Super K)

Tyrese Robinson: 2017 OU offensive line commit Tyrese Robinson was also in Norman this past Saturday and from all accounts had a great time. Robinson had the chance to see the Sooners scrimmage, but also stayed after for several hours watching film with OL coach Bill Bedenbaugh. Another thing Robinson got to do on his visit, which speaks to the type of player he is, was ask Bedenbaugh questions on what exactly he needs to be working on to help himself be prepared to get on the field as a freshman.

We were also told Robinson and Grayson Reed spent a good deal of time together and evident the two ‘really hit it off’ according to one source. “It was like they had known each other for years,” was how one person described it.

Now we do want to make those aware who may not have been already, Robinson is planning to take official visits in the fall. And while things can, and often do, change all the time in recruiting, we’ve been told that as of today Robinson is ‘100% locked in to the Sooners.’ – (Alex)

Chevin Calloway: I spoke briefly with the coach of 2017 CB Chevin Calloway (Dallas, TX), and just wanted to pass along a note that apparently Calloway quietly visited Oklahoma a couple weeks ago. – (Super K)

– #SoonerSquad17 Targets: Just wanted to pass along a few of the names the current #SoonerSquad17 class has been working on to join them in Norman. Hunter Rison, JK Dobbins and Tylan Wallace, among others, have been the main focus of late.

Again, this class is really putting in work on the recruiting scene unlike almost any OU class in recent memory. And as you have seen, it’s definitely paying dividends.

– UPDATE (6:40 pm): Following Monday’s practice, Bob Stoops confirmed TFB’s original report that DB/LB Hatari Byrd is no longer with the program.

– UPDATE (6:54 pm): If by chance you missed the following tweet (below) from OU defensive lineman Du’Vonta Lampkin regarding his spring being cut short due to injury.

Screen Shot 2016-03-28 at 6.45.27 PM

So we reached out to a source to try and get some details, and this person with knowledge of the situation shared with TFB that the talented redshirt freshman is dealing with a knee issue. The full extent of the injury will be determined during the actually surgery. However based on the information we have at this time, the expectation is that he will have recovered by the start of fall camp, at the latest.

– UPDATE (8:00 pm): As was brought to our attention, figured it was worth mentioning that Dalton Wood is no longer listed on OU’s roster. Don’t believe there has been a comment from Bob Stoops or OU, at least not that we’ve seen, but one would safely assume this ship has probably sailed for the last time.

Get over here Metz – this will keep you out of trouble.

  • SoonerOracle737 says:

Thanks for the practice notes. Those get me pumped up.

  • Malicong says:

2017 is shaping up to be one of the best in Stoops tenure. Would not be surprised at all to see the class end up top 2-3.

    • Matt says:

I started following the Sooners relentlessly in 04. The best class I’ve seen in my time was 06. The 05 class was very good as well. ’10 had a lot of flash but also a lot that never did anything or transferred. Hopefully the family atmosphere they’re creating will help with the attrition problem.

Can’t wait for the Spring Game to actually see all of these guys with our own eyes. Really excited to hear about Dahu. Need another WR in there. Also sounds like Rodney is back and that is great to hear as well. Final Four this weekend and spring game the next weekend. Man what an exciting off season this year.

    • GrandeBass says:

Word. Hope OU Hoops continues to play at this level. I forgot how much fun it was to watch the 09 team make their run

Can you imagine being a Jayhawks fan watching your only hope lose in the NCAA tournament? There’s no, “Well, now let’s turn our attention to football season,” for the Kansas fans.
What a job OU has done with its athletic program!
        Boomer Sooner!

  • GrandeBass says:

OU will definitely need to be in mid-season form if we stand a chance to complete the first leg of our schedule undefeated. Love hearing the WRs are giving PJ and the rest of the DBs fits. Creates a great drive and focus to compete and get better. Excellent OP

  • AMKing00 says:

From all accounts as you read above, Dahu Green sounds to be taking a step forward in the WR competition.

    • SoonerOracle737 says:

Fingers crossed that he makes that leap forward. He has tools to be special.

    • Matt says:

If Andrews progresses and Dede becomes productive enough to be the focal point, one more solid WR is all the offense needs. The rest of the WRs are just icing on the cake at the point.

  • Dick Bump says:

Good stuff to hear. It makes you look forward to the Red/White game.

  • cush creekmont says:

Very nice work! Living in the “world of closed practices,” scrimmage and practice reports are what we look for. Keep it up TFB!

  • kt-raida says:

Wish they would work marvin wilson, we need a lineman like that.

    • AMKing00 says:

Believe they definitely are. The names mentioned above were just a short list that includes others as well.

SK do you know of any JUCO DT we are recurting? And how many DT are we going to take in this class? Thanks for all the great info you give us!

  • Ryan says:

I’m still extremely intrigued with Michiah Quick. Easily the highest recruited and most talented receiver on the team. I hope he becomes a major playmaker like he can be.

    • Oscar says:

It seems to be “now or never” time for Quick. I hope he rises to the occasion.

    • soonerthunder says:

Hate to disagree, but no way he is easily the most talented wr. When kids step on campus, forget the “stars.” It’s the only way anyone can say he is the most talented wr. He’s talented, no doubt, but bradford, walker, etc show that just b/c someone has stars doesn’t mean they are the most talented. I think there may be 6-8 easily more talented than him myself, and that’s still very good b/c OU has a group of talented wrs. I think we may have 8 very, very good wrs this yr, just not sure whether he can break into that 8.

  • blaster1371 says:

Daimler will be one of the players I keep a close eye on in the Spring game. He already looks like Johnson sis his senior year. When he came into the program he was just a big guy who looked like he had very little strength, but three years in The program the kid looks like what you want your OT to look like. I’m concerned about Dakota Austen starting at CB because what the OU receives did to him would be the game plan of every team OU faces.

Nice to see Overton is getting rowdy. That wrestling background is starting to show through. Would like to hear how the two walk on QBs are doing in practice. Sounds like the new freshmen WRs will have a shot at playing time next season if they prove to have better hands than some of the current WRs.

    • hOUligan says:

According to the SoonerSports site, Daimler has added over 71#s the last 3 years. He’s been in the system and now has the size. Love that he is repping well at RT. Gives Bedenboom more to work with and more options.

  • Will Narramore says:

Do yall know where Gallimore is playing along the line? Is he strictly DT like Romar or is he playing the 3/5 tech spot?

  • Will Narramore says:

Also, any news on John Humphrey? Kid has speed to burn but I remember seeing a graphic showing he led the WRs in drops last spring

  • Birddawg says:

Parker being quicker/faster.. translates to range.
    Hauhgton another cover guy.
    Dime Package?
JT, PJ, KH, WJ, with SP over the top.

  • Randy says:

Any idea of who the 1st team D is ? We know it at CBs and the 2 S’s ? DL, OLBs or the one OLB who was inside (2 deep) ?

    • Super K says:

Wrote it up in a previous post but I can go over it again sometime this week.

      • rphokc says:

      • Randy says:

Thanks… !! And Thank You for all the info you guys provide… We are lucky to have you guys.

    • Matt says:

I believe K said it was Roberts Romar and Walker on the line with Obo at the Jack spot and then Tay and Jordan at linebacker.

      • Randy says:

Oh.. That was for this weekends scrimmage as well ? I guess I missed that.. Thank you.

        • Matt says:

Oh sorry, I don’t think they put out the lineup for the scrimmage, that lineup was just what said in one if the practice notes

  • SoonerfanTU says:

If Daimler can match what Samia did at RT last year, I love the idea of sliding Dru inside to guard. If our oline can get stronger inside, look out. Could really open the running game up.

    • cush creekmont says:

Exactly! Stronger guards and center will give push up the middle that was not there against top foes last year.

    • cdzendolet says:

Which is a scary thought, because we had a pretty potent running game last year, especially in the last half of the season

      • KJ1123 says:

I got a feeling the run game is going to double the output from last year. Samia is quick to get to the second level when he’s in at guard and Ford is getting there. Second level blocking was not a strong point last year.

        • Matt says:

nope. That was the biggest concern I had going into the playoff and I don’t even watch line play that closely. I constantly saw Perine and Joe running past the pulling guards and making plays because they simply couldn’t be tackled by big 12 linebackers and DB’s. I knew that wouldn’t be the case in the playoff and it wasn’t. I’m excited to see the offense really get some good pulling blockers.

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

I don’t think it is in our favor to talk about so-called bad Big 12 linebackers and DB’s. ESPN does enough of that and uses it to try and discredit what OU accomplishes.

  • Fear The Magic says:

Great OP and thanks to TFB for all of their hard work.
That being said. WR drops no bueno.

  • hOUligan says:

Over a dozen posts and not a single BOOMER to get this party started!! And where’s 47 w his ‘ great day to be a Sooner’? OU in the final 4 by downing the Ducks and rated #2 in recruiting and trending up. I’d say it’s a dang good time to be a Sooner!!

      That’s a nice edit.

  • cdzendolet says:

Damn what a great OP! Chock full of great info! Thanks – my Monday needed this!

  • Doobie74OU says:

The way this #SoonerSquad17 is tweeting all the time and the comradery they show it is going to be very difficult for any of them to walk away and change their commitment. They are really vested in each other and working together to bring in the best class possible. This is how recruiting should be. Coaches have to do there job well and make a good impression but these commits have unlimited access to contact and work on other recruits. I love how this class is shaping up!

    • metzker says:

      Keep smoking doobie!

    • Mark_in_VA says:

It highlights a major difference in how your top recruits can affect you.

Most of the top-tier guys like to wait it out, play around, and if possible commit on NSD. During that time, they aren’t doing anything to promote any particular program, or foster any sense of excitement.

This year, it really seems to have started with Barnes and Draper. Those guys went all in, and then instead of goofing around and waiting for “the lub” they started promoting OU hard. So they create excitement by being top-notch athletes, and “speak the language” to other top-quality recruits who follow suit. Now *all* those guys are speaking with one voice and working the recruits as hard as if they were coaches!

I love that Caleb Kelly picked us and am thrilled he’s here, but how much good could he have done if he’d committed even 6 months early and started working on other recruits? This is the main reason this class is going to be sick. They are in it for each other and for OU, and that spreads to all the new recruits until it becomes some unstoppable force.

      • J.r. Kamm says:

Don’t forget Bandy, who has also pushed OU hard from Miami, FL.

        • Mark_in_VA says:

Bandy’s been awesome, as have the rest of SS17. I was just highlighting that it was Barnes, and then Draper, who really set the tone.

  • Jason Vos says:

Like CcrBoomer says he must have played on special teams cause he is listed as a Soph on the official roster.

agreed. I’m super worried about the linebackers in the first three games. The smashmouth spreads that UH and OSU run with power and counter over and over can be a nightmare if your linebackers don’t play them right.

      • KJ1123 says:

It almost seems like a mini gauntlet to start the season for sure.

      • hOUligan says:

Good point. OU has recruited some quality DTs to help keep the LBs clean and LBs that are LBs just in time for these guys. Prep for UH should help get ready for tOsu.

        • SoonerfanTU says:

Prep against Murray is even better. They’ll likely won’t see a quicker QB than him all year.

          • hOUligan says:

And he throws a great ball, too, from what we are hearing. Kinda like when the 1s were facing off against Baker before he was eligible. Little did we realize what those guys were facing in practice.

I’m not at all convinced that the couple of fights we’re heard about are a good thing, K’s positive spin notwithstanding. Granted it’s great to hear about maximum competitive fire, but when it boils over into fights within the team, and in particular, when it reaches the point where someone’s day is cut short, I can’t help but feel that it demonstrates an extreme lack of self control and a level of immaturity that can lead to serious problems, both in the locker room and on the field. I hope they are nipping it in the bud.

Doesn’t worry me. Usually dissension is usually apparent when, say a DL and DL get into it or OL versus OL. Usually because things aren’t being picked up/handled properly. This may very well just be a case of “better reporting” calling attention to the usual. My only concern was if the reports were reflective of an increase, or one or two guys who are prone to be more disruptive than the norm.

  • soonermusic says:

I realize it’s not “the basketball brainiacs,” but having just watched Buddy H. for the first time these past couple of games, I gotta say, do yourself a favor and tune in, if you haven’t already done so. To use a worn out phrase he is indeed ridiculously special, as is the entire team. I recommend screaming “Buddy” at the tv every time he scores. 🙂

  • Slim Sooner says:

Excellent OP. Ready for some football. These notes sure do help right now, thanks guys.

  • MoJoOkie says:

I apologize in advance, but this is the first time I’ve took the time to thank the guys at TFB for doing what they do. This is the best board I’ve been associated with from both admin and participant levels. Thank you!

I didn’t realize Schiano was at tOSU as their DC. Schiano v Riley should be good.

This OP has my seal of approval!! Great job guys!!

  • HardTarget says:

Any word on Caleb Kelley? Is he going to be redshirting? Has he put on weight?

    • Jordan Esco says:

He’s not on campus yet, but I strongly suspect he’s doing everything w/in his power to prepare to start from Day 1 (b/c he’ll have every opportunity to do so).

  • Greenlantern Otis says:

so did anybody figure out anything about what farrar was saying aboutr another boom coming?

  • j l says:

Assuming we keep lamb, can we also take rison and wallace? Thats 5 WR, seems steep for whats going to be another smallish class.

    • ouwooferman says:

I count 25 Sr/RSSRs on the roster currently. If you figure a couple of casualties (academic, transfers or NFL draft early) looks like a bigger class than usual. JMO though.

      • j l says:

Strange, thought i had read on here it would be a class of 20/21. Though i guess with paul and byrd being gone that frees up at least 2 more.

      • Tipman says:

Youre right. last year we only had 12 or 13 Sr / RsSrs. We will take ~28 this year from what i’ve read

  • Tulsa Terry says:

I’m excited to hear that Christian Daimler is poised to become a productive starter. I’ve been a big fan of his all along and didn’t get distracted by the shiney new prospects.

  • Bob Edwards says:

I want big men on the line that want to dominate the guy on the other side of the line. You put two of those guys against each other in practice they might get a little chippy. At some point they are probably going to step over the line of self control. Better for them to do it in practice so the coaches can help them work it out than to wait until a game and get a penalty or ejected.

    • SoonerOracle737 says:

I have that same problem when bringing up new databases. I get sent home quite often when things don’t go well.

      • Bob Edwards says:

You need to get in the weight room with Shmitty. You’re letting those databases push you around.

    • Oscar says:

Q was getting pissed that he couldn’t get past one of the new guys on the OL. 🙂

  • BigJoeBrown says:

What a great way to start the week. Practice notes and recruiting info. Really like hearing about Dahu stepping up. One great thing I think the younger players got the opportunity to see is Shepard play. People talked about his size, but Shep dedicated time toward the fundamentals toward all aspects of the game. Film, routes, blocking…ect. Now the guy is one of the top WR’s in the draft and has amazing combine numbers.

It’s like you see what it takes first hand to make the most to get to the next level. Big difference between having no mentor’s on the field to having no one to show you the ropes.

  • Jeremy Phillips says:

Dusty’s scrimmage report is coming up.

    • Matt says:

on the radio? Or is that Soonersports premium stuff?

      • Jeremy Phillips says:

Was supposed to be on the radio, but that’s been a good 40min. & he still hasn’t gotten to it yet..

        • Matt says:

asked him on twitter, he said 145 so it should come after this commercial break…#justwaitonit

        • Matt says:

just heard, literally nothing we didn’t hear on here.

          • KJ1123 says:

            He’s a TFb Lurker 🙂

          • cush creekmont says:

            If not, he should be.

Me, I look to KJ for my insider info 🙂

          • Jeremy Phillips says:

It’s just confirmation.. Literally when he talks about the team on radio, it’s because he’s seen it with his own eyes &/or the coaches have told him things.. So, every time he talks about the team, it’s worth listening to..

      • hOUligan says:

Yea. HWMNBN is conspicuously absent w/ all the good news surrounding the Sooners. Every ‘win’, every ‘BOOM’ sends the little weasel scurrying back into his hole.

        • cush creekmont says:

After the Sooner beat down of “his” Aggies, he tossed in his call for OU to actually beat Oregon. Perhaps he pulled “a Costanza” and chose opposite of his feeling to win.

The other option is that he got trapped in his rabbit costume and has yet to extricate himself.

          • metzker says:

Option 2 is what ill go with!

          • hOUligan says:

2017 WR Jhamon Ausbon is supposedly visiting OU this week. Do we take him AND Rison?

    • bommer85 says:

      don’t forget tylan wallace.

    • Fear The Magic says:

If for no other reason we should take him to get him away from Baylor ( hes committed there ). Other than that you still probably take him as hes even more highly rated that our three WR commits.

    • Doobie74OU says:

#Sooner Squad17 getting full up at WR! Besides this guy and Wallace (#137 overall ranking & #18 WR) listed below. Omar Manning (#154 Overall & #21 WR), Joseph Lewis (#20 overall & #4 WR), and James Robinson (#43 overall & #7 WR) all have OU on their list

  • Tipman says:

2017 WR Jhamon Ausbon is supposedly visiting OU this week. Do we take him AND Rison?

  • DCinAZ says:

    * While the receivers did some good things, there were also some drops, including more than one would-be TD catch.

I don’t understand why this is still going on.

    • hOUligan says:

All the more reason to bring in 4-5 new WRs and let attrition take its course. Step up or step aside.

      • DCinAZ says:

Agreed. Might as well recruit over the guys that weren’t redshirted last season and let the hungrier young guns take over. They’ve had more than enough time to mature, get better, and secure a starting spot. Seems like Norvell’s last 2-3 classes just aren’t going to pan out.

  • MikeyBoom says:

Anyone else catch the Jordan Thomas vs his father fiasco on twitter yesterday. Crazy stuff if you ask me. Not a good look for Jordan nor the University

    • Greenlantern Otis says:

      what happened

      • MikeyBoom says:

Don’t want to throw anyone under the bus but Mr. Thomas was “putting Jordan’s personal stuff” on his twitter. Lets just say, some of the things said where not what OU needs coming out especially after the Mixon ordeal

        • soonermusic says:

          You wanna provide a link?

          • MikeyBoom says:

It was on Curley Thomas twitter but he deleted it. I screenshotted them with my phone though because I had a feeling it would be deleted.

          • CW says:

Curley did leave a post up that said “my bad. I thought I was sending direct messages to you”

          • MikeyBoom says:

That’s the only one he left up but he deleted more than 5. I screenshotted all of em. Lol if I knew how to upload em on here I would have done so

          • Boom says:

What good would it do to post. If they are deleted, let it go.

          • metzker says:

            Booms right.

          • MikeyBoom says:

I never said it as a diss towards Jordan Thomas. I was just stating if anyone had seen it

          • MikeyBoom says:

Dude chill out. I just was wondering if anyone had seen them. I’m a big OU fan just like everyone one here but if the stuff that Thomas’ dad is true then we have an issue. And fyi, Im in the camp that feels like the Mixon ordeal should be let go also. Kid made a mistake. But this Thomas stuff was pretty serious

          • Boom says:

I’m as chilled as it comes and I wasn’t trying to stir the pot. Do whatever you want.

          • MikeyBoom says:

Your statement was if they are deleted let it go. Wouldn’t you think it was deleted for a reason. Like I said I can send you the screenshots personally and I bet you would agree this isn’t a good sign. Being that OU is going through the crazy Mixon ordeal (unrightfully so)

    • Fear The Magic says:

I didnt see the tweet nor do I have any idea what its about however if it was something that could hurt OU it makes me wonder if that had something to do with JT sitting out the scrimmage.

      • MikeyBoom says:

Couldn’t answer that but if you recall Jordan didn’t start the first game last year, he went missing for the Tulsa game and we all remember his unpaid ticket at the end of the season. The way I see it is there’s to much smoke for there not to be fire. Especially, since its coming from his Father. Lets just put it like this, the dad seemed extremely upset that Jordan hasn’t had any communication with the family in a while but was in love with a chick and the dad went on twitter and starting releasing his anger ( feelings about Jordan). Those feelings included Jordan and his school grades, some instances with the police and other stuff. I’ve met Jordan a few times at my barber shop and he’s such a good young man. Just can understand why the dad who I met last year and Jordan speaks highly of, would do such a thing if it wasn’t true

    • cush creekmont says:

Good to see you back at TFB Mikey.

Just hate to see ugly OU news, and family-to-family is the worst.

      • MikeyBoom says:

        • cush creekmont says:

Naw, I’m an old fart that can’t get into the twitter scene. I appreciate you guys that see stuff and fill us in here at TFB.

I understand that work thing – I have had almost two months of non-stop work – good, because it should bring some business, but still takes time away from FB and other fun.

Question. Daimler redshirted in 2013 and didn’t play in ’14 or ’15 and now he is getting 1st team looks at RT? Where was this kid for the last three years?

    • KJ1123 says:

Dont think he was going to get a chance in 14 with Tyrus and Daryl. Last year there was a Senior in front of him.

      • DCinAZ says:

Last year we had freshmen at both OT spots. Why couldn’t he beat them out last year?

        • Zack says:

Good question. Maybe the light came on so far this spring. I don’t really like the idea of moving samia but if the coaches think it makes the line better then clearly it’s the right idea.

        • KJ1123 says:

Because the Freshman were better. Plain and simple. Daimler is not better than Samia at RT. But Samia is better than the guards that we have at this point. If a guard comes up and does better than Samia…then he’s back at RT.

  • Super Keith says:

RE: Overton getting kicked out for fighting.

I played offensive line my entire football career, and from about age 15 on, I can confidently say that there was at least one OL/DL fight that would break out in spring and summer ball. In fact, it got to a point in high school that we saw the first OL/DL fight as “the start” of real practice. When the guys in the trenches are giving it their all, frustration will eventually wear down someone. Once the first punch/kick/trip/push gets thrown, it’s on. To me, that’s a sign of guys taking practice as serious as they do games. A very good sign. As long as it’s isolated, and contained, it’s good for the team.

    • KJ1123 says:

I like it, Que is not a “problem” kid. He just doesn’t back down from anyone on the field which is good attitude to have obviously. Just needs to be smart when his in an actual game.

      • OUWade says:

curious which lineman he got into it with. We’re talking about Overton because he was the one that got thrown out, but I want to know who was playing him well enough to get a talent like Overton so frustrated.

        • KJ1123 says:

          Powers
Edit: Could of been just some extra shoving or talking at the end of the play. Powers is new and probably doesn’t know Que at all.

          • OUWade says:

            cool, thanks!

          • Super Keith says:

Don’t know a ton about Powers, but he appears to have a bit of a nasty streak (which is was I love in O linemen). Not surprising.

          • KJ1123 says:

That’s what I gather from him, reminds me a bit of Richie Incognito.

          • Fear The Magic says:

From what Ive heard I think that Alvarez and Ford might have that nasty streak as well.
In fact I might have heard that through you lol.

          • KJ1123 says:

      • Super Keith says:

Exactly. It would be different if he had a history of poor behavior, but that’s not the case. I think it was just a heat of the moment kind of thing, and I think even the coaches don’t mind seeing that. It’s part of intense practice/scrimmage.

    • DCinAZ says:

The fights are always between the lines or the WR and DBs. LOL!!! That’s how it was when i played.

    • Stephen says:

Former QB, I loved when my lineman fought in practice. That kind of stuff just raised the intensity and competitiveness of the rest of the team.

    • stan H says:

Really hoping that Lincoln stays another 2 years at OU. I fully believe that if he stays at least two years that he will have the top head coaching openings and not have to settle for lower lever programs or programs that are not contenders.

    • Gregor says:

So, the problem is that even if he leaves, if he is successful, he will still be the top candidate. It is almost better for both sides if he leaves, proves himself, then gets a chance on the big stage with some HC experience.

Now, selfishly, I hope he stays, then is hired by Bob’s replacement, then gets his chance in 15 years or so with multiple championship rings on his resume.

    • Jordan Esco says:

no longer listed on the roster, so I would assume ‘he gone’ for the final time.

  • DCinAZ says:

If Lampkin should be returned by fall camp, it’s probably just an arthroscopic knee surgery which is minimally invasive and has a speedy recovery time.

    • SWoods says:

I hope thats what it is. I had an arthroscopic knee surgery in 2011 and only missed 1 week of work.

      • DCinAZ says:

Sounds like that’s what it is. If so, it’s not a big deal. He’ll be on his feet in a week in a boot probably and have a few weeks of PT to strengthen around the knee before he’s cleared to get back to training.

  • Super Keith says:

I just don’t understand what’s going on in Dalton Wood’s head.

To have not one, but two different opportunities to get a free education (never mind playing for one of the premier programs in the country), and walk away is just incredible to me.

I don’t have any doubt that the kid is dealing with something that must seem pretty serious, but that’s going to happen the rest of his life, and walking away rarely leads to the answers your looking for.

I couldn’t help but think about Manyang, and what he’s dealing with right now. If anyone ever had a reason to pack it in and leave, it’s that guy. However, I don’t doubt for a second that AK will be back at OU next year, ready to take full advantage of his opportunity. He’s a kid that went from the war torn Sudan, to America, and now is dealing with the death of the last remaining member of his immediate family. What ever is going on with Woods, probably doesn’t compare to that kind of strife.

Good luck to Mr. Woods, and I hope he goes on to do great things. But, it just got a little harder for that to happen.

I could be mistaken but I think he may be expecting the arrival of another kid in April.

      • rphokc says:

from what I’m able to glean from oui, apparently scholly n/a ’til ’17 and that didn’t sit well, a/o can’t afford the yr at ou………leaving to play baseball at smaller school……however, I can’t see/read everything said about this as it’s hidden info

        • Sooner Ray says:

That could all be true. I was trying to recall some tid bits from a news article from some time last year. I’ve had at least one beer since then. 🙂

          • rphokc says:

keeping up with this soap opera requires some drinking…….actually, I feel for the kid to some extent…….what’s he had, 1/2 chances at the full-ride and screwed them up

          • Sooner Ray says:

He made his bed and it’s hard to understand for most of us. I know I would have killed to be the running back for OU but they liked Tillman better than me…..can you believe that crap? Lol.

          • rphokc says:

does your wit track with alcohol intake…….you’re on at the moment

          • Sooner Ray says:

            I didn’t drink in track, that’s how I beat Tillman in the 40. 🙂

          • rphokc says:

            badda bing…….I’m out…….thxs

    • Bob Edwards says:

As I told my kids, you can learn from the mistakes of others or you can be the person that makes the mistakes to learn from. Sounds like Mr Wood has chosen option number two.

      • Sooner Ray says:

My dad beat me into choosing door number one. 🙂 And I thank him for it.

        • Bob Edwards says:

I tried with mine, unfortunately a couple chose number two. Sadly they don’t seem to be willing to learn from their own mistakes either.

          • Sooner Ray says:

It seems the era a child grows up in has more influence than the parenting now, sadly.

I’m not sure that it is really that different. I’ve done quite a bit of looking into my family tree. It’s amazing how many were so eager to start a family when they got married that it took them less than the traditional nine months to have a baby.

We were looking through some genealogy material my grandmother had put together and noticed the missing marriage date of one of my aunts. When I asked my uncle about it, he said “She knows when we got married, she was there holding the shotgun. Well it wasn’t actually a shotgun it was a pearl handled revolver.”

      Well done sir.

  • John Garner says:

Wow, I’d given my left nut to play at Oklahoma, and Dalton gets two shots and pisses away both. Hard to wish him luck, given how much luck he’s already had, but good luck. I’m just not so sure that if I met him I wouldn’t jap slap him.

Pretty sad to see someone get a Willy Wonka’s golden ticket twice and throw it away both times

    • Oscar says:

His life path is going to be a lot different from now on. Hopefully he will learn what he needs to learn, and heal where he needs to heal.

Just found this link…maybe it has been around for awhile, but it is a must have bookmark in a college football fan’s browser. Lists all the major all time statistics for each FBS school and even lets you compare two schools head to head…a must have for any argument with trolls from other schools. The only thing that is sketchy is the national titles. They are loose with those (ie Michigan has like 11? instead of what I thought was something more like 2)

Does anyone know why Byrd is no longer with OU?

    • Sooner Ray says:

Team rules violation is the official. Weed is the word but you didn’t hear that from me.

      • Fear The Magic says:

I think it might be because of Weed. I have nothing to back that up other than hearing it from Sooner Ray.

  • Carl Carter says:

I can’t wait until the Sooners hand it to Ohio State and J.K. Dobbins will be thinking real hard about what he just watched on TV. Sorry if this seems like a bit much

Wood is just a head case: Fact. Move on son. Find your way.

I just booked my flight for the tOSU game. Flying into DFW. That was the best price going. Everything to OKC was too expensive.
