For football junkies such as myself (and I’m sure many of you as well), waiting for OU to officially update their roster over the spring/summer tends to be a painful one. Certainly they have better things to do — as should we, I suppose — and there is only so much to be gained from getting the new numbers, yet here we are once again to pore over them. So without further adieu…

BOOMER!!! See Lampkin up to 332.
I think the 300 was from his freshman year in high school 🙂
That worries me some. His HS hudl vid was incredibly good and what made it stand out to me so much was his quickness into the backfield.
This is good if he will play the nose in 34. Many successful 34 looks feature huge NT: KC/GB/NE…Need him to take up blockers….Size is good.
SOONER!!! Let that big gain be 16 pounds of muscle plus 16 more of mean and nasty
The Dimitri Flowers gain is um interesting.
I’ll allow it
Good stuff Jordan!
Overton leaned out some, which I think is a good thing. I know you want size inside, but I’d gladly trade 17 pounds for more speed at that position.
What the hell is going on with Flowers? If he did, in fact, add 24 pounds; It’s hard to imagine that’s all muscle. So, either they’re setting him up to be more of a TE, or his role next year will be more true to an H back. There’s a reason he added so much in the off season, it’s going to be interesting to see why.
I’m am getting giddy to see DeBerry. It had to have been brutal for him, sitting out last year. As much as we all grew to love Striker, and what he was able to do, I think it’s fair to say DeBerry is a much better athlete than Strike was at this point in his development.
Finally, I remember when Bedenbaugh first got to Norman, and he made it clear that he wanted size up front. This year, that’s certainly not going to be an issue. Looks like we’re back to having a huge line, which always goes well with a good running back.
I love Tay Evans size, I would like to see a 40 time on him.
My “sources” say they’ve tried to hand-time him, but he’s end-to-end by the time they lift their finger off the button. Darndest thing they’ve ever seen, “they” said.
Lol! Now that’s fast!!!!! “They” might be smoking to much wacky weed 🙂
Yeah, it’s kinda fast, I guess. Not as fast as I used to run (according to my mother, that is). 🙂
Samia? Whatup? Move to guard?
I’m thinking center!
True OL playing OL. True LBs playing LB.
Finally.
Christopher . if you, thought Grace `s remark is exceptional… last week I bought a gorgeous Mazda MX-5 since getting a check for $7155 this munth and in excess of $10,000 this past-month . without a doubt it is the nicest-job Ive ever done . I began this six months/ago and right away made more than $79 per-hour . go right here,……….….http//EmployeeAppreciationDay.org/GetPaid/98$hourly

It’s easier this way, Bertha. You picking up extra shifts at the diner. Me a cigarette away from combustion. We just can’t be together, understand? It was never meant to be. Forget you ever loved me and redeem this ugly city with your pretty songs. Don’t let the bastards get you down.
Oh. And my name ain’t Christopher.
This….funniest comment I’ve seen.
No kidding. Linebacker involves a lot of instincts. Now OU has backers with some size; hopefully that translates into some real thumpers.
Thing is, your weight can fluctuate 3-4#s in a week, easily. I don’t read much into a 5-6# swing either way. Alvarez and Evans up 18 and 12. Overton and Gallimore down 17 and 25. Losing some of that ‘bad weight’. Would be interesting to see body fat % then vs now. And McGinnis down 11 and still 250ish along w/ DeBerry. Gonna have some heft at LB.
edit: just noticed Danley used his RS year well. Up from 297 to 323. This Oline is gonna have some size. Hopefully stronger than Nila, too.
I’d like to believe most here understands your point in those first couple sentences, but at the same time this is really all we have to go on.
Not taking issue. Almost put ‘as most know’ but then….most ‘knew’. With some of these guys, trying to put on and keep weight on is a struggle so a guy like Mead, 5# gain would be ‘big’. Thanks for ALL of the info.
Great stuff as usual. Now these guys just came off heavy training and pre-Spring conditioning correct? Perhaps doing less cardio will put some weight back on people like Samia unless this was intentional. Do you feel he was unable to beat DE/Lbs on speed rushes? Why did he drop so much unless it is what I alluded to?
Except Samia.
Flowers and Wood almost identical size- can’t wait to see goal-line package.
Flowers, Perine, and Wood in a full house backfield with Mixon at QB. Defenses would have no idea what the hell to do.
Plus Wood can throw the ball. Lotta stuff for the DCs to worry about
Could Austin Roberts be an impact player this year? Love his size!
Beef up front ! Flowers up to 252 ! Mix and Perine both up !
Let’s smash some mouths !!!
I agree with Jordan, Mixon didn’t need to get bigger.
Shhh. Just let me imagine us smashing mouths for a minute. Lol
OK, go with Flowers and Wood
I think Mixon was playing at close to that weight last year.
And yes I think 215 is closer to a better weight for him!
We read on here a while back that Mixon had put on weight but didnt lose any speed or quickness. If thats the case Im very ok with his new weight.
Yup!
That’s the reports. Let’s see.
That’s the reports. Let’s see.
DeMarco Murray plays at roughly the same weight in the pros and it has’t hurt him much. Certainly not his bank account!
DeMarco currently listed at 6’0″ x 217lbs
Played at close to 230 lbs when he was tearing it up with the Cowboys. Bigger than AD in fact @reesbear:disqus
Merely basing my reply on your selection of the word “plays”- he is not currently listed at 230.
Regardless, I do not believe that Mixon is nearing DeMarco Murray status quite yet and I do not believe he can pull off carrying that much weight and being as successful as he can be at around 215 or so. I could be wrong but this is my opinion.
Totally agree @reesbear:disqus. Good player but not yet near what we saw from DeMarco Murray. Time will tell if his 5 star rating outta HS was accurate.
Time for Mixon to take ballet lessons and do some yoga.
Not the break away threat.
Players tend to bulk up over winter months both because of the table and weight training, and then slim down a bit over spring ball and certainly over summer practice. Plenty of time to get back to optimum weight,
If Flowers is packing on the muscle, I like this a lot. I get worried though when I see that big a jump.
What’s up with Mittermeier down 27 lbs? Is he changing position or has he been sick?
Starving himself off the field. Whose cooking for some of these guys? Has the meal budget been cut for the sake of the renovations?
This post in a nutshell….
Biggest surprises or question marks to me are:
1. favorable. Flowers as big as Trey Millard was. Going to be a force which can do nothing but improve the running game and get himself on the field more specially in passing situations. 2. Deberry looking like they may move him inside. 3. Ahmad dropping 14 lbs…make him quicker in coverage hopefully
3. Huh? =Mixon gaining weight-unless he hasn’t lost a step. 4. DJ Ward losing 10 lbs…why? I guess in MS scheme will need Ward to drop into coverage like he had Grissom doing (not good in my opinion). 5. Samia losing 10 lbs? Freaking Smitty! I thought we wanted to get guys bigger while retaining athleticism? Moving to more passing in the Air-raid which requires Linemen to be quicker and less bulky? WTF?
Maybe with Samia dropping weight and Evans putting on some weight to get right about 300 theyre moving Samia to guard and Evans will start at RT? That’d be a pretty big line with 4/5 (Brown. Ford, Alvarez, and Evans) all at or above 300.
Also love to see all 4 presumed LB starters as of now ( Tay/Jordan Evans, Deberry, and Obo) all above 230.
Maybe, but Samia didn’t need to lose weight to move to guard. Hell, he was probably smaller than what you’d want at guard already.
There is still some time between spring ball and summer camp. If the coaches didn’t want him to drop weight, now is the time to start correcting it.
A little late, but Samia’s weight is incorrect, he’s at 296. He should be at about 305 by fall camp.
What the hell is Flowers eating? Overton had some to lose so not surprised or concerned. I would like to see Mixon stay down in weight personally. Overall the roster looks good.
Also, we could throw a massive and athletic 3 man front of Walker, Lampkin, and Gallimore out there with everyone playing at or above 300. That would be insane. I’ve got big hopes for Austin Roberts this year. I think he, Dimon, Walker, and Gallimore need to be the 4 DEs that get the most playing time
Love the Austin Roberts gains! Me thinks the kid will be laying wood this year! All in all about what I expected other than Dru losing so much (any clue why such a big drop) and Mixon beefing up. I think he has the frame to carry it so I’m not overly concerned.
Gallimore needed tom,one that weight. I’m sure several of those redshirt freshmen got rid of baby fat. Samia dropping weight is not good. Didnt he have an elbow injury late in the season? Wonder if that kept him from lifting much.
He can still do squats and deadlifts though.
Samia’s at 296. the above weight is incorrect.
I was waiting for you to give us the shizzle on that.
Thanks for the update, Jordan. Any way to sort the list by position group?
You can go to OU’s actual roster to do something like that.
I’m old, but somewhat technically capable and often use the sort functionality on the roster. That said, the official roster doesn’t give the unique side by side analysis which is very enlightening.
* 32 RB Samaje Perine: IS – 5’10” 234, WAS – 5’10” 230 (+4, still a tank)
I’d like to see Samaje get up closer to his freshman weight. This, IMO, is a step in the right direction. 238-240 would be outstanding.
D. Woods and D. Flowers at 252… Wow..
Just glad we have two FB’s at 250+ for the run game
And pass protecting. They can stand up to blitzing LBs at that weight.
why doesnt DJ ward Play OLB? He will have to play it anyway in the NFL might as well start now
I would put Brown and Julious at LT & LG and run student body left
I know this is pure speculation, and is an open ended question. But anyway that we see a “big” package this year? And maybe line up and play some smash mouth ball ala Stanford or Michigan or even Bama?
I’m kind of intrigued about Byrd at linebacker…
Thanx! Some good growth. Some questionable.
When was the last update? Is the weight change over 12 months or 6 months?
36 FB Dimitri Flowers: IS – 6’2″ 252, WAS – 6’2″ 228 (+24, whoa)
* 22 LB Ricky DeBerry: IS – 6’2″ 250, WAS – 6’2″ 242 (+8, assuming he hasn’t lost any athleticism bulking up, me likey)
* 57 DL Du’Vonta Lampkin: IS – 6’4″ 332, WAS – 6’4 300 (+32, my goodness)
maybe the OL is just in spring running and has started bulking yet iono. flowers with +24 tho. and i bet deberry will be ripped
Anyone else find it odd the Jeffrey Mead still hasn’t broke 200lbs?? Also I love that LB’s are all bigger and I think will be more versatile. Also I hope that’s a misprint with Samia being 274 cause that’s not gonna fly at the RT position
Boomer
I have a feeling Zeus jr is going to wind up a RT.
Is Courtney Garnett getting any better will he see playing time
Whats up with Garnett is he progressing. Will see any playing time
