– Martinas Rankin: Caught up with 2015 JUCO OT Martinas Rankin out of Perkinston, Mississippi. He let us know that OU coaches will do an in-home visit with him this coming weekend (Sunday). If there was any doubt about how high a priority Rankin is, OU will have no less than three coaches in Mississippi for the visit. Rankin said that Bill Bedenbaugh, Josh Heupel, and the head man himself, Bob Stoops, will visit him.
Rankin is deciding between Ole Miss, Miss. State & Oklahoma. And we feel it’s going to come down to OU and Miss. State, simply because Rankin has made it clear that he feels those two schools will have the greatest need at OT next year. Rankin also told us that he has set his decision date and will announce on December 17th.
– PJ Mbanasor: Coach Bobby Jack Wright was in Pflugerville yesterday doing an in-home visit with 2015 OU commit, PJ Mbanasor. From what we’ve been told, PJ clearly liked what Wright had to say. He said Wright seems like a “man on a mission.” He said that Wright went into detail and spent a great deal of time discussing scheme, etc. Bottom line was it sounded like Wright did a good job of assuaging any concerns PJ may have had and from what we can tell (and said earlier in the week) things still look good between Mbanasor and OU.
– Iman Marshall: Unfortunately, the five-star corner will not be in Norman this weekend as originally planned. However we’ve been told a visit has been rescheduled for January.
– JP Urquidez: the 2016 offensive tackle is on his way from Maryland to Norman for an unofficial visit. Urquidez has offers from LSU, Nebraska, and a number of other top schools in the country. Once again, Coach Bedenbaugh is killin’ it!
– Desean Holmes: Yesterday, 2015 WR Desean Holmes (Mission Hills, CA) decommitted from USC. You may recall that Holmes was seriously considering Oklahoma before he committed to the Trojans and had planned to take an official visit for the Baylor game (good thing he didn’t!). We caught up with Holmes to see if he’s heard from OU since his decommitment, and he said he has not. But he did say that he’s still interested in the Sooners and is hoping to hear from them.
– Coaching Changes: We’ve been pretty hush on this front for a few reasons. One of which is there is so much mixed information out there, which typically means nothing has been officially decided yet. Here is what we feel comfortable saying based on what we’ve heard…Coach Stoops isn’t going anywhere! Which, in our opinion, is fantastic news.
As far as any other staff changes, we’ve being told some could be coming. We had noted that coach Stoops seems to be very active on the in-home visit circuit this year, and we’ve been told that’s not a coincidence. The belief is he’s trying to ensure that he has strong relationships with OU’s commits and top remaining targets in case he decides to make a change or two with this staff. We’ve heard various rumors on where the changes might come, but nothing is concrete enough to report as things stand today.
– UPDATE (Sat., 7:23 am): This, from last night, definitely does not help OU’s chances to land stud 2015 safety, Justin Reid.

Was there any doubt Stoops would be back? Any idea on the scheme direction we are going with our DBs?
Well there was some speculation about him possibly taking the Florida gig. And we’ve been told they are going to move in the direction of playing more press coverage. They’ve certainly shown more press looks lately anyhow. But perhaps there will also be more emphasis on it in the off-season.
Why did they back away from press this year? Didn’t trust the new guys as much as Colvin?
I would say so. Not to many corners as good as colvin. Too much inexperience is my guess.
Tough to say. They play a lot of cover 3/3 shell this year whereas last year they played more man 1 last year.
K – do you think the Baylor game was the primary “wake-up call” for more press overage? Baylor’s opening drive in the second half of quick passes to WR’s that gained 10 yds per catch really exposed our CB’s playing off.
Bingo! +1
I’m stunned they didn’t pick up on that by the WVU game. Actually, I’m surprised that Mike ever went away from his bread and butter to begin with. But if Baylor game wasn’t a wake up call for them, then our defensive staff is a lot less bright than I gave them credit for.
I would guess that and young/inexperienced safeties that they didn’t trust.
Judging by the above comment on “assuaging any concerns” to PJ Mbanasor, Im guessing youre correct about us going to more press coverage (FINALLY) as that seems to be how PJ likes to play it.
Key word speculation.
Unfortunate about Marshall.
I asked yesterday but never got a response…anyone from the Nebraska commit list worth trying to go after?
Yes but we’ve been asked to keep it hush for now bud
Right on, I appreciate it!
Probably not many. They have like 4 or 5 4* guys and three of those are corners and a running back. Kevin dillman is one I could see them going after but he’s listed as a TE now. He was Dallas todd’s qb before moving to Denton.
The photo of Urquidez was taken the summer before his junior year in high school?
I mean, look at the guns on that young man!
He sure would look good in Crimson and Cream and those guns would fit on a battleship after working with Smitty.
He doesn’t just pass the eye test, he sets the standard for the eye test.
All eye charts belong to him.
Pay up for Monty and Coach B!
FWIW, while Monty is unquestionably a great recruiter, I’ve heard two former OU and NFL lineman say that our D-Line is by far our worst coached group on our squad. Personally I think it is our QB’s, but that is what they have said. They say technique is horrible.
I don’t like to disagree with former ou players when they analyze but the dline is the worst?? I can’t see that but I do think being in our 3 man front makes it a weak spot which is why I see us going to a 4-3 by 2016. In our 3 losses we did get handled in the trenches on both sides not just defense.
I’m w/ you. I’d have to call b.s. on this claim.
I don’t claim to know more than former NFL lineman about proper technique, like it appears that some on here seem to, but I am only repeating what they said on the radio. They both said, at different times and on different stations, that average OL are whipping them because the techniques they are being taught are totally ineffective. They said at the snap, they “show their numbers” to the OL meaning basically they standup and raise their pad levels, and as even I know the low pad wins 99% of the line battles.
Nor I but I find it hard to believe they’ve been any worse than the LBs or DBs.
If you only look at results, yes. I feel it’s one thing to have great talent and teach them poor techniques as has been claimed by these former players. The DB’s, I’m afraid are just not that talented. For Stanvon and Dakota to get passed up by a converted nickel and a true Freshman tells you what they think about their talent. And Byrd and Thomas certainly aren’t living up to their recruiting hype. Everyone expected our DL to destroy people this year because of the NFL talent at that position, didn’t we? Yet they’ve been pushed around most of the season and I don’t feel that it’s due to lack of talent.
Interesting. I sure don’t have the knowledge these folks have but I’m curious on the pad level. Seems to me we play our DL as a read and react instead of shooting gaps. Did they mention anything about their scheme?
34 is a read and react defense for D Line. The D Line is responsible for 1 Gap for the DEs and 2 for the NG in the Sooners scheme and their primary duty is to keep the OL off backers. You can’t really shoot gaps in this scheme, messes up the run fits and gap control concept. Most DL Coaches don’t want you up field further than the heel line of the OL unless you read pass then get after the QB.
Understood. However that is a lot different scheme than when Tommy Harris played. Harris was 2 or 3 yards in the backfield as soon as the ball was snapped and didn’t have a ton of tackles but messed everything up for the O. Stud.
I’m not entirely sure I’d agree w/ that assessment of the DL’s play. And I also don’t think they’re being used as effectively as they could be. As to actual technique, I don’t have the time (nor am I a DL expert) to break down the film just isolating their play, so I wouldn’t really speak to what is or isn’t happening there.
I’m just not sure what the expectations should be when you’re playing 3-on-5 so much of the time.
Just the fact that everyone on here can point to a different aspect of the defense that has underperformed should tell everyone something. ALL areas of this defense have underperformed at times from the DC on down. Defense has to be played with all 11 players doing their specific job and far too many times this year we saw that objective failed spectacularly. IMO this was a problem that originated when Coach Mike decided he wanted to expand upon the defensive schemes from last year rather then perfect what they used and were successful with last year. Things were over thought and over complicated. I believe if they would have just coached the hell out of technique and effort they could have kept things much more simple and just turned the dogs loose on teams.
But my question is (ignoring their exaggerations) is what average oline has handled the dline? Baylor, kstate and tcu? Those may be average at times but this year, this week, they are all in the top ten so I would say those olines are pretty damn good.
Also the only person worth quoting from the franchise is Kelly Gregg.
For certain if Baylor, KSU and TCU offensive lines are beating our DL be it technique, talent or effort then we are short on either talent or coaching, perhaps both. But under no circumstance should there ever be three teams in the B12 able to manhandle our DL. That shortcoming has to be on someone. No exceptions.
Also not that stars determine anything but the a greater probability that a player will produce. But since Montgomery took over as DL coach OU has signed or got a commitment from only one 4* recruit ( DT Marquis Overton and no 5* recruits. His four 3* recruits (DE Dwayne Orso, Courtney DT Garrett, DE Kenneth Mann and DE Tyrell Jacobs) and have not been mentioned, to my knowledge, as being up and comers that we can expect/hope to contribute next year.
From my perspective the jury is still out on whether Jerry Montgomery is the DL we want for the Sooners long term. I would like to see him signing 4* or better defensive linemen 40-50% of the time. OU has the tradition and the program to be getting our fair share of the top DL in the country and presently we are not. Let’s give Jerry another year or two when his recruits are starting on the DL to make that determination.
Some Sooner fans are crying about the so-called lack of 4-5 stars. Let’s go back and check the history of Stoops recruiting. Rivals Reports….OU 5 star recruits…02: 3 03: 0, 04: 3, 05: 2, 06: 1, 07: 1, 08: 3, 09: 0, 10: 0, 11: 2, 12: 1, 13: 0, 14: 1, Since Stoops took the helm 18 5 star recruits in what 15 years? A little over 1 five star per year.
Average recruit per Rivals…OU has never averaged 4.0 only USC has averaged that for a single year.
2002 highest 3.8, lowest 2012 3.1.
But an alarming trend is that 2012 the average was 3.1 followed up in 2013 with 3.2….these are the lowest back to back totals in Stoops era.
Ditto, considering the strongest part of our D is the D Line.
IMO, ship has sailed on 4-3. More press coverage, bigger DE’s in future, athletic LB’s on the edge. S’s will be more like CB’s.
Even worse than a secondary that doesnt even know how to or where to line up at? Im not doubting you as I’ve seen the DL make mistakes too but I considered the secondary to be the worst unit on the team. At least the DL has slowed opposing running games to some degree
You have to look at it for more than one year. I agree that over the past several years we have failed to develop a majority of our D lineman.
Yeah I agree completely, though I think they are better than they were in 2012
NFL: Casey Walker, Stacy McGee, Frank Alexander, McCoy all on NFL rosters. Ronnell Lewis was a twinner.
OU as of two weeks had four NFL D linemen. Conversely, LSU has 8.
I think you have to give him more time. I mean right now he is trying to recoach guys that had a different coach before. I think in two years he will be one of the better coaches we have.
We haven’t had a good sample since we have been rushing only 3 on a lot of plays. When we rush 4 you see better how good our line is, that is what gives striker such an advantage, the O lines are having to double team our D line.
Maybe they are sore Shipp is got canned.
Can we hear from JY on that point?
Who, if anyone, is playing in the NFL that Monty coached at OU? Maybe they were referring to Coach Shipp or BJW, who was coaching DEs a few years ago.
Who said that Monty coached them? They watch games and replays just like everyone else and that was their observation. Heck, even Sam Mayes, former OSU All-American OL said he’d love to have blocked against this OU DL than the ones that he played against years ago.
Seems like an odd thing for him to say.
I would think Sam Mayes smoked something funny before making that statement. If this ou team plays to it’s potential then this game should be ugly. But I think osu will end up over achieving and this will be an interesting game.
My point about Mayes though is that I highly doubt he wants to deal with striker and tapper.
I don’t think we’ll get the QB play to make this ugly. Other than that, the potential is there.
Sorry Dave, thought you had posted they were D Linemen that were making those comments. DL seems to be playing pretty well and can’t see why Monty would not be having them use proper technique. Kind of confusing.
Considering OU’s FBS ranking is 35th in total defense and 9th in rush defense, I respectfully disagree with the assessment of the defensive line.
I favor the 4 man front and the techs used by the 3 or 4 man line are different, but with all said this DL and the ILBs have done an excellent job against the run.
Spot on there eastex
So…you think we have the 9th best rush defense in the country? Really? Doesn’t have anything to do with us playing in a pass-happy league, would it?
It isn’t what “I think”, it is what the NCAA records show, click on the hyperlink.
It could be any of a number of things and despite what your radio show indicates, it could be that the rush defense is actually very good.
Or maybe, it could be that we face a lot less rushing attempts than teams from the SEC or Big 10.
I don’t really care if you guys believe what these guys said or not. Obviously, it was just their opinion. But I would add that it’s a very informed opinion due to their expertise in the area of D-Line play. I don’t know if that’s true or not because I’m the kind of fan who likes to follow the ball and not focus in on line play. I was just simply passing along what I heard them say, FWIW.
BoomerDave. I don’t agree or disagree but what I would like to know if the xNFL guys would provide the right technique or more insight as to why the technique is incorrect. In other words they provided the issues but no solution unless it’s been posted and I don’t see it. That would be a good read and help me understand what and NFLer eyes see.
I’ve paraphrased what they’ve said several places here, but best as I recall they said that at the snap, they stand up or “show their numbers” as one put it and the OLman across from him will get his pads lower and control them. Again, I’m not claiming to know whether this is true or not. But to hear it from 2 different guys on 2 separate stations following the Baylor game I found to be a bit revealing and even alarming.
Reading, not attacking?
Actually, OU has had more rushing attempts by their opponents than Bama, Louisville and Mich St, teams that are regarded highly against the rush. Bama and Louisville allow 2.9 yds per carry, OU averages 3.1ypc and MSU is at 3.4ypc.
As I stated earlier, I respectfully disagree with them. That doesn’t mean I impugn their or your observations. I’ll listen to almost any opinion, but facts and stats can refute or reinforce those opinions.
And that is assuming that the DL is solely responsible for our rushing defense. I not here to argue for or against. But I feel that following Alabama game that our D-Line, especially Tapper and Grissom would be much more dominate than they have been.
I included the ILBs along with the DL, originally, as being responsible.
I think adding Chuka to DE and moving Grissom to OLB was an important change and the statistical performance of this years front 6 are better than last year’s.
If it were up to me we would be in a 4 man front, but I have been pleased with this year’s defensive front. The back end of our defense is the weakest area. Currently, we have soph ILBs and soph/fresh DBs. If they keep improving we should be solid on D for years to come.
On last nights Soonersports Coaches Corner Coach Monty raved about Romar’s ability, performance, aggressiveness and how he takes coaching.
I thought so as well. But if you noticed Phillips has been doubled team most of the time. Last week KU played him straight up and paid dearly. Does Tapper have a sack this year? Striker and GG were used too much in pass coverage imo. I feel like OU couldn’t pressure Boykin and Perry at all. Water’s hurt OU with that “Tebow” illegal play.
OU is 11th in yards allowed per carry as well…So its not just teams are throwing
How would you be able to tell someone’s coaching technique is bad? Have they gone to practices and seen this themselves. I am not arguing with you, but that statement can be misconstrued and needs clarification. Technique? Position?
I am not an expert by any means, but he looked pretty aggressive when they did the Mic’d sessions a year ago.
Yes, I know at least one of the DL I speak of is at a ton of practices.
Its the secondary. Youth and bad technique got us beat in two games. Go back and look at the baylor and tcu game and you will see their QBs got the ball out very very quickly. If we play press coverage that doesnt happen. Film doesnt lie.
And that has exactly what to do with the point I’m making? Saying that our coaches have determined that our DB’s can’t play press coverage, says more about talent than technique.
maybe it is less a problem of technique and more a problem of TALENT…. haven’t seen any dan cody;s, Tommie Harris’s, Leroy selmon’s suit up for OU lately…..
Jordan Phillips is an NFL talent, and there are some young players that look like they will be future stars.
Is Kish finally going to get the Boot?
Well, according to the below, it’s down to the secondary or Dline as to who’s the worst unit on the team. By elimination, Kish’s backers must be the top of the defense. Give the man a raise!
But he can’t recruit at all.
sorry if my attempt to be funny went wide. I wasn’t criticizing you at all.
I caught the sarcasm. Even the kish (eh supporters?) like myself wouldn’t say give him a raise but I would like to see him close the deal. I can see them making the decision to fire him at the end of December if he ends up with a goose egg at linebacker but if he has commits on board by then, then I think they have to stick with him until NSD.
Too early to say that. I wouldn’t be comfortable saying that unless he strikes out on all of the LB’s we’ve currently offered.
Time to take down the Aggies!!! (Again)
From an armchair fan perspective – three areas of concern (in order of importance) are: QB accuracy/decision-making, offensive game planning/scheme, and secondary play. Two of those three relate to one coach. Hmmm…who could that be?
That’s why I think it would be wise to bring in a full time qb coach.
Or perhaps we have a great QB coach on the staff already and we just need a full time OC.
Man, I’ve been thinking the same…LJ quit improving after Heupel moved up, and all the QBs seem to be in a holding pattern.
The steelers said they’ve never seen a qb more unprepared. One of the reasons he’s still on the team, they think he’s got the talent just the lack of coaching has him behind at the pot level.
Unless your name is Walmart, you don’t demote someone and keep them on staff. I believe he hasn’t been given a chance to be just the OC. From what I’ve seen he can call good games and uses set up plays more than people probably realize. So I think he knows what he’s doing but he has to focus on teaching the qbs and that’s a full time job itself.
Nobody is ever just an OC though. Leach coached the QB’s. Wilson the Oline. Mangino the Oline. Long the QB’s.
We haven’t had a good OC since Barry Switzer. Wait, everyone wanted him to get fired until he switched to the Bone during an off week in 1970. Galen Hall? Nope, he lost to Kansas. Mack Brown? Only here 1 year. Leach? Only here 1 year, ran a gimmicky offense, couldn’t run the ball when we had to. Mangino? Maybe, but he’s permanently banned by the good Dr. Boren. Long? No way. He threw on the last drive against LSU. Wilson? Also no way, we kept trying to run it up the middle against aTm.

Texas sucks. Sorry, just felt like typing that.
You NEVER have to apologize for typing that here.
Tuck Fexas,
One of several weekend visitors.
https://twitter.com/ReemKnows1/status/540902533448093698
And if you weren’t already aware, we’ve made several updates to the visitor list.
https://thefootballbrainiacs.com/ou-oklahoma-sooners-football-recruiting-bedlam-weekend-visitor-list
Scared of what? Is it his first time on a plane maybe?
Still more than 24 hours before Bedlam.
I’m ready, now.
Harris, Dvoracek and Cody all on that D-Line. Sick!
Backed up by Lehman.
They sure made Les choke on his words from before the game.
Let ‘er rip, indeed.
I wonder how many times we’ve blown the candles out for OSU with goal line stands over the years.
Shoot, we even had a great one last year.
https://twitter.com/TheFbBrainiacs/status/540912788776816640
Under the radar recruit for some (if not most). I’ve wanted this kid at OU since I first laid eyes on him. Would be a huge get, IMHO.
You and me both, I thought the blip he made on the radar screen matched that of a M-1 Abrams.
Early on, I had visions of he and Orso on the edge at 6’6″. With Orso now at 300+ I wonder if he will be moving to DT in the near future. Sort of a Jordan Phillips 2.0 sort of deal.
Sure hope Tapper and Phillips come back next year.
That’s the biggest recruiting job that needs to happen along with Striker
And DGB.
With Striker, I think his getting his degree is paramount. Now, if he finishes it prior to next season then I wish him the best.
EasTex, I’m with you. I’m a Sooner fan but I’m not selfish enough to wish these players cash in when the chance comes. I wish these players well during there time on campus and after they graduate, or if they should leave early.
I want them to all stay for their degree and become good citizens more than I want to see them go for some quick cash.
http://youtu.be/vKd32wr7yy0
That was most definitely a different era from the one we live in now @disqus_UrrKRweCfL:disqus
Before the season, I was 100% sure this would be the last season for both. Now? I don’t see Tap leaving. I think JP needs another year to develop, but NFL GMs covet something he has. 6’6″ 345 lbs.
He should be a nose guard when he gets his chance. I would like to see him and Phillips in a 4-3 though.
I would love to see a four man front. I absolutely hate the three man front.
I don’t hate it, just prefer the 4 man.
I don’t mind the 3 man front, so long as you use it properly instead of the Mickey Mouse nonsense we’ve seen throughout most of the season.
Orso is 300 plus?
Not according to the roster, it lists him at 300. :}

Hmmmm M-1 Abrams…….really nice blip.
Was Stoops with PJ also? Feel like Coach Wright may get the boot along w Kish
Muschamp to South Carolina. That’s interesting.
I believe that has been refuted, at least for now.

DeeChillin?? I don’t tweet.
If you’re asking who it is that’s lampkin
Du’Vonta Lampkin
Thank you, sir
Jordan, is Lampkin a solid with texsa?
David Beaty of aTm (WR Coach) to be named at KU.
seems like a thin resume’ for hc, but this is ku………
espn classic just had the 2012 Bedlam game on.
What a great memory.
Lol I remember watching from the mancave and I just sat down in the middle of the floor with my hands up(lil hoopin/hollerin too) My other half opened the door to see if I was ok. She closed the door quietly while muttering how she hated football !! Gotta love that finish:-)
I was at the game with my mother (who had never been to Bedlam before) and I remember her wanting to leave early after OU was down at the end of the game. I refused and I am so glad I didn’t leave.
Dat Spray Tan tho!
Man. Saddens my heart for Brennan. He must move on, change his environment, keep walking towards Jesus.
What’s going on with Brennan?
His wife cheated on him with D. Murray. Brennan then went on a tear posting on twitter about it.
This story came from foxsports.com, I read the story this morning.
If that’s true, I have no respect or love anymore for DM.
The fact that Bedenbaugh is currently chauffeuring one Josh Wariboko to the campus right now is priceless. That man doing his work!
If he doesn’t get a raise to keep him at OU, there should be a riot. Just sayin…….
For sure. That guy goes the extra mile. Quality dude too, very personable and knows his craft.
Question here: How difficult is it to convert a standup DE to outside LB?
Its all about the kids hips and if he is able to get into his drops effectively. OLB in a 34 defense is the most difficult defensive position on the field especially against spread offenses. You need to be able to take on blocks against larger OTs, athletic TEs and FBs, Read the mesh point accurately, Learn pass rush techniques and angels, and Cover.

GET OFF THE PHONE BILL!!!!! lol
i see all these tweets with BOB and other coaches but where’s MIKE?
recruiting is always an interesting subject around here and so it goes this week…….however, I’m surprised at the total lack of comments on the puke game……..are tfb and many posters just assuming a win …….traber, forgive me, had a couple of interesting observations….1).no surprise, the pukes have a decent d front and will sell out for the run to force ct to beat them with the pass……2) the pukes do have some good receivers and the new qb can throw, so he thought that considering ou has no passing game we know of currently and the secondary is what it is at times, they could cause some problems and a close second half game……I hate the pukes and would love to embarrass them, but wouldn’t be surprised if this is close
I think the secondary will play better and I’m hoping for some press coverage to disrupt timing. Any word on who our back 4 will be aside from Sanchez?
don’t remember the names but the result is a lot of inexperience………..and who knows what mstoops is going to do
Coaching change speculation: let’s see…if changes are going to be made, it’ll be in areas that are failing. What are the problem areas:
Running game? Nope. Cale’s safe.
Offensive line: Nope. Bedenbaugh’s safe.
Wide receivers: We have one WR, and he’s hurt. FAIL. Norvell might be getting nervous.
Special teams:/TEs Ross has made some good kickoff returns, but we have no punt return game and FG kicking & punting have fallen off this season. TE play has been minimal. Boulware hasnt been bringing in recruits like Monty & Bedenbaugh, so he ought to he nervous.
QBs/Offense: FAIL. Heupel SHOULD be worried, but if Bob’s doing in-home visits with Heupel, I would think he won’t be on the chopping block, no matter how much he should be.
Defense/LBs/DBs: FAIL. Bob won’t fire his brother. Not going to happen. He won’t fire Bobby Jack Wright either, so they’re safe. Montgomery’s been a valuable recruiter, and our DL has been the strongest part of our D, so he’s safe. Kish isn’t the recruiting dynamo he was billed as and LB play hasn’t been great.
So, it’s looking like Kish, Boulware, and Norvell are the likely candidates. I have a hard time thinking Bob will fire anyone from the “U of Iowa mafia”, so I’ll believe Norvell will be fired when I see it. So, Kish & Boulware…gonners.
Boulware has been better than Kish, but the TE still hasn’t made its mark this year imo. I have a feeling Kish is the odd man out.
boulware has done ok with te’s considering they don’t use them and don’t currently have a qb that can get them the ball consistently when needed……he’s got some options when bell leaves but it’s hard to attract the studs when you don’t have hi-lites to show
Tight end involvement is the OC’s sketch up as far as I am concerned. However, the NFL Broncos use heavy tight end sets, and game plan tight ends heavily, whilst the most opportunistic quarterback (arguably) in the NFL throws from the pocket. In that system, I’d say there is about an 18% TE catch ratio. Most of the TE involvement is blocking, and running routes that attempt to free up the long ball. That being said, I would like to see more long striding TE’s all over the field, but the TE’s ( and H-backs) we have can take some credit for the blocking facet of the NCAA’s top rushing game.
Boulware, is he calling the offensive plays? hmm, can’t fault the TE’s for lack of pass catches but Bell has blocked well this year and only gotten better. Wood is a good pickup and he’s only bringing the top kicker in the country. In addition, he brought in the best deep snapper too. Trying to find logic in these posts but don’t see it.
Lol I stopped reading halfway down because your comment about boulware was ridiculous. He’s done exactly what he’s been asked to do it’s not his fault there’s no punt return guy that is part of stoops philosophy to just secure the catch it suggests to me that ross and quick are not sure handed enough. Hunnicut getting the yips is nothing a coach can control.
Boulware stays. I’ll be sure on that.
If you want to make room on the O side of the ball to bring in a new coach, who do you replace if not Boulware (JH isn’t going anywhere ( family high up at OU & no one wants him outside of OU ) ) ?
Back at it Katyboomer. You don’t replace anyone. You either add a QB coach, or leave it where it is. I think the best post on this topic to date is below by ‘Boom’.
Not back at it, just don’t see any other way of doing it. You are only allowed to have X amount on staff per NCCA rules. I don’t mind Boulware at all just see him as odd man out. I wouldn’t mind seeing some changes, but I just don’t see anything on the O side being done.
I am also hoping for some changes. But I think those are defensive changes. Big picture scheme of defense changes is what I am hoping for.
Yeah D wins championships.
Do they not have room? Boulware has a pretty big responsibility that you can’t just have go uncoached
I guess they did it before, I think each coach has ST responsibilities now as well. I guess TE could be grouped with WR. To be honest I have no Idea.
You mean to tell me you can’t coach a ball through the uprights?
I’m sure you’re right. Coaching doesn’t help at all. Why did we even hire Stoops and company in the first place? We should just let them go out there and make up plays, decide when and how to practice, how to learn or improve on technique on their own.
Nobody will kick the ball to us anymore on kickoffs and you think Boulware should be nervous? LOL
Thank you to OUr seniors – final home game – and best wishes for their futures:

++++++ to this!
Sounds like those rumors need the Original Posters treatment.
Look for Blake Bell to have a big game tomorrow, after all, he is the Bedlam hero.
Hopefully all of our Seniors will.
Bell to QB tomorrow?
I would actually really enjoy that. But this isn’t goosebumps, so I just hope we get him the ball a bit.
Yeah, just holding out hope. I hope our passing game lights it up no matter who is at QB
I would love to see Blake Bell take the victory snaps at the end of the game
Hadn’t even thought of that but that would be very cool and actually I think very plausible with the kind of man Coach Stoops is.
After the win, I would like to see him ride out on the shoulders of some of his teammates.
Lol, they couldn’t get Samaje off the ground, I think they’d really have trouble with BB
Bring in Will Muschamp or Bo Pelini to coach LB. Totally plausible, right?
No on both. Muschamp is going to Auburn to be the DC. Pelini, do any of you remember how bad things went the last time he passed thru Norman? No thanks.
False…Muschamp is going to South Carolina to be DC and Coach in Waiting
Have you confirmed that? Latest report is that was false.
I believe 247 is reporting Muschamp to South Carolina. FWIW.
Not Yet.
Is it Saturday yet?
It is now!!! BOOMERSOONER
Maybe you guys can be like the other OU sites just this once and release “Breaking” news about the coaching changes, even if they are very hush hush at the moment! After all it’s better to be first rather than right! Lol

Good enough to be twice on the board.
I didn’t scroll down to see if it was already posted, apologies
I’m curious the group’s thoughts on this kid.
http://www.hudl.com/athlete/1366008/highlights/170705375#
uh. Warrior mentality. Visible leadership qualities apparent in the passion and power with which he plays. Wow. I wouldn’t let my little kid play football with Josiah, because he is only allowed to strike men over the age of 18 with that type of force, just my personal call.
He scrapes and flows to the play very effortlessly. He reminds me of Junior Seau.
What do you know about his college choices?
As strong as he is and has good hands, could he be a TE or FB?
You’ve been trending towards these guys whom have an abundance of hair lately. That said, he hits hard but occasionally up high. I kind of see him as LB or FB.
Hmmmm we have a chance to shut okielite out of a bowl and improve our standing with the best in-state kids.
Is also a chance to send Mike Gundy away holding his butt. I’ve never seen a coach so intent on saying and doing stupid stuff. Even OSU fans I know want him gone.
I’m a huge KState fan this weekend if that matters.
So go kick okielite’s butt and send them to circle the drain.
Wow! Too bad.
https://twitter.com/DshizzzNitssss/status/540986309049737216
I think most people are not considering the assistant to the equipment coordinator. He’s done a terrible job this year.
https://twitter.com/JoshuaJ45/status/540990903330930689
Jordan, how do you think the Kansas hire affects Demarcus lodges recruitment?
How so?
Lodge was a ATM lean now with that position coach gone would that be a positive for OU?

What’s the chances he flips back to the good guys?
Maybe like 35% if I had to put a number on it.
Your more optimistic than me I was thinking 25%.Lol
I think it’s safe to say this is a huge game for recruiting. A loss would surely damage our chance with a lot of big time recruits. Win and I think recruits will still be high on ou.
FB, just read where D’Vonte Lampkin is visiting this weekend. Have you any info on this. I think he committed to UT, the source of this news felt if he in fact shows up, he will likely commit to OU.
Pluto is no longer a planet.
https://thefootballbrainiacs.com/ou-oklahoma-sooners-football-recruiting-bedlam-weekend-visitor-list
I would love to get Lampkin back.
Most would tell you to tab out. But I’ve heard he’s been great this year as a senior. But to me he’s a fit for a 4-3. I think he could get up to 330 and play the nose but his first step isn’t special so I think he needs another tackle next to him to help not get blown off the line.
Any chance Mike Stoops leaves? Not saying I want him gone, just that we haven’t heard much from/about him recruiting lately.
I think it was mentioned that he was on the visit to haughton. Could be wrong. I think he may hold out for an east coast job like va tech especially if he was responsible for getting Monty here, then I could see him taking Monty with him as the DC.
Haven’t seen this guy on the list of recruits coming. 247 shows him
scheduled to visit Tennessee, but looks like he is headed to Norman for
2nd OU visit this year.
Here is his Rivals page. He is a big ol’athlete.
http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Kellen-Diesch-164747
Wow, a look at him and some of the other 2016 and 2017 lineman coming for a visit.
1. Kellen Diesch, ot, Roanoke, Tx. 6-7/265 ( 2016)
2. Rowdy Frederick, og, Broken Arrow, Ok. 6-5/316 (2016)
3. J. P. Urquidez, ot, Hyattsville, Md. 6-6/290 (2016)
4. Will Farrar, ot, Richmond, Tx. 6-6/290 ( 2017)
5. Amani Bledsoe, dl, Lawrence, Ks. 6-5/270 ( 2016)
Wonder what they’re going to be when they grow up?
I would tell them, to their faces, they can be anything they want to be.
For any other Brainiacs in the DFW area, a real treat on TV tonight. KXTA will have the South Oak Cliff~Ennis playoff game live at 7:30.
I’ll be watching. A very talented SOC team with 13 D-1 players versus a tough refuse to lose Ennis team.
I checked and I have the katy game so I’m gonna watch Anderson tonight
That would be awesome to see!
Manvel is supposed to be a tough team.
What channel is the SOC game on? I may flip around the jenks/union 17th annual state championship game is tonight. This was the year for my side of the state to win since it seems like we aren’t recruiting many kids from those schools this year.
KTXA in Dallas.
Wasn’t there some dispute as to the Jenks/TU game being played?
The locust grove vs someone? But the locust grove/Douglas game ended in controversy with the refs taking away a Douglas td late in the game (a minute left) for sideline interference but I think they were supposed to enforce the penalty on the kickoff.
True it was a dead ball foul but the refs took away the touchdown and assessed the penalty from the line of scrimmage. It was a penalty for a sideline infraction. The Oklahoma school athletics assoc. agreed the refs were incorrect but let the penalty stand. Locust Grove won 20-19. Locust Grove was to play tonight in the semi-finals. Douglas sued and a judge issued an injunction and was to make a final ruling on Wed. the 10th. So now it is a total mess. Now everybody is pissed.
Thanks for the clarification.
I’m watching it right now so I don’t think there is a dispute.
Since I’m at our Jenks home tonight, I’m just going to kick back and enjoy the Jenks game tonight before heading back to the ranch tomorrow to enjoy the beat down of the cowgirls.
For some reason ray I thought you lived in texas somewhere…as that’s where I thought gary lived and you mentioned he’s sort of close distance to you.
Not Texas, I’ve got a ranch N. Of Tulsa and a place in Jenks. Gary lives about 15 or so miles from the ranch.
Oh ok close to owasso? My uncle lives there.
Sort of, going to Yukon tomorrow to watch my Bulldogs play Lawton Mac in the 5A state finals.
It’s a nice stadium. I can see it from my backyard almost..I hear their band practice each morning.
Game is at 7, we are leaving around 2:30. Any good sit down restaurants in Yukon you can recommend?
There’s nothing really unique here but there are some chain restaurants like chilis Louie’s and Buffalo Wild Wings. There is a nice steak house called hensleys and a cool diner called miller grill.
Thanks.
Cheer them dogs on Gary!
You bet. first time in 40 years we have been in the finals.
About 10 miles or so N. Of Owasso. I know the area well.
I take it being in jenks you’ve seen quite a bit of Overton. Is he as good as his rating?
I’ve seen him a couple times and like him pretty well. Wife’s daughter says he’s kind of quiet in school but takes up a lot of space. She’s at the game right now cheering him on, knows he’s gonna be a Sooner and is pumped about it.
Correction, he just busted through the line and took down the QB.
He looks good to me. He can move well tackle to tackle.
He just won the state championship! He had a good game tonight. He dominates the middle and I feel good about his future at OU.
He’s able to bust through double teams but doesn’t seem to have blazing speed to chase down QB’s once he gets into the backfield. He’s good at holding down the middle though.
Hunh…Petty is cleared to play against KSt.
Shocked I tells ya’…SHOCKED!!
Well the good news for him is kstate doesn’t have an oakman to take a cheap shot at him and possibly end his career.
As a rule I never wish a player to be injured, but am prepared to make an exception for Oakman.
Well I guess it’s time to mark Justin Reid off our possible list. Just got the dreaded lsu offer.
Who did LSU lose out on since they offering so late? I still believe it’s between OU and Standford.
Not sure they has a safety flip awhile back to osu. Unless it really bothers Reid that he’s considered a back up plan for lsu, then I see this being lsu or Stanford all the way.
The reason we all worried about lsu is because it’s the local school, his brother played there, they’ve been an elite program as far as nfl talent and it would be near his friends and family.
Stanford offers the same kind of appeal with a place he can make his own name while being close to his brother.
Totally just found this out and posted it. This just plain sucks, he would of been big for OU.
First post on here although been coming here for the great information. My daughter graduates from OU business school next week. Live in Katy, TX. Watching Katy HS and Rodney Anderson in 4th round of playoffs. Anderson having big game. Katy up 31-17 in 3rd vs undefeated Manvel..
Thanks for the update on the Tigers and congratulations for your young lady on her graduation.
Game on Fox Sports SW. Katy up 38-17after Anderson 72 yard TD run. Anderson over 200 yards rushing and 3 TD.
Thanks for the update.
Sadly, here in Dallas FoxSW had the Mavericks game on tonight. Just be glad the Rockets weren’t playing.
I knew Rodney was the real deal when I saw him as a soph backing up Adam Taylor.
Rockets were playing on their own channel here, Root TV. It is owned by the Astros and Rockets. Final, Katy won 45-17.
Excellent!
I’ll pull up the Chron’s box score in the a.m.
I think Ross is a perfect slot receiver.
How would you like to be the qb at OU next year. In comes Perine, Ford, Ross, Mixon, Anderson, Brooks, “sooner” Smith, Flowers. Not a bad line-up.
…..wouldn’t be surprised if smith and brooks leave, maybe ross
I actually would be surprised if they left. They all seem to love ou and would they really be the starter at another top program? Probably not. But it just depends on how they see things.
Hope we will have the line to block for them and a QB that will make the 3rd down throws for 1st downs and burn the cheating safeties over the middle.
Got him for over 2000 yds on the season now at over 10 ypc. This guy could be amazing behind the oline Coach B is putting together.
Flipping between the Jenks-TU and SOC-Ennis game. What a great Friday night.
Hats off to Jenks and TU. TU for playing such a gritty, gutsy second half and Jenks for finding a way to win with their Tinker Owen-esque WR #21.
With 7 minutes left Ennis is leading SOC 34-14 but the game isn’t really as close as the score would indicate. It was 17-0 Ennis at half and the 58 point a game SOC had 78 yards total offense.
Tex, it’s Jenks vs. Union playing at TU’s stadium. I’m giving you a pass since you aren’t from these parts. 🙂
Wait, it is Tulsa Union, right?
Yes, sorry I’m used to the locals just refuring to them as Union HS. The Tulsa is just understood. Around here when you see TU, that means Tulsa University which is where the game was played. My bad.
I understand, I was just using a common acronym not considering the local lingo.
I did live in Tulsa for about a year back in the 80’s, but between starting up a new business and messing with my hot rod and sport bike, didn’t get into the local sports scene much.
Took me a little bit but now I understand-TU-, makes sense. I Have been on straight water since 6 p.m.
Good for you.
I’ve been on sweet iced tea since 5pm.
Of course, an excellent dinner.
…..looks like the ducks are getting revenge for their lone loss……….if they’re healthy for the playoffs they’ll be tough
Per TFB twitter and Justin Reid, he now has an LSU offer. You can expect that they’re the favorite now.
I was starting to feel him slipping away with the Stanford offer. Need Haughton more than ever, now, and get solid with Bundage.
Well bundage is a 2016 guy. I guess we could hope Marvell tell came to Norman but that’s a slim chance.
Just stoked that OU is getting into LA. Was pleased to get as hard a look from Reid as we did.
There’s always a possibility that he doesn’t want to go to lsu but I can only hope. We got 2 kids out of LA last year and right now we’ve got 2 for this year and hopefully a couple more with mcguinnis and Reid or Dwaine Thomas.
For my fellow gear heads out there in TFB land, this story and video is just dripping with awesome sauce.
http://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/news/auto-blog/the-beast-of-turin-revs-again-17485406?click=INSTAPUNDIT
Oh please God let it be Heupel. Please!
Justin Reid was offered by lsu last night so that might make it a little harder to get his commitment
Still makes me smile after 31 years.
Got Squinky?
Jerry Montgomery is Reid’s primary recruiter. I’m good with that. Listen, if I’m Reid, I’m pissed that Lester waited so long to offer. I would string him along. Plus, Ole Lester wants that Michigan job.
You know how you know you can’t get enough of the Brainiacs,…you’re sitting in you deer stand, seeing no action…then decide to pull out yuor cell phone and check out the latest on the Open Post!
That’s pretty awesome right thar.
Beat OSUcks.
This nonsense with Locust Grove and Douglass needs to end. Refs make horrible calls EVERY game and teams lose. Football is supposed to grow young guys into Men and teach them life lessons, not how to file lawsuits. My brother and his teammates at Heritage Hall have to go another week without any answers to who, when or where they will play now. Got to teach these kids to move on, focus on the education side that you need for a football scholarship
Chris, you’re right: this is one of Life’s lessons. Sometimes it sucks.
But what were your emotions like following the Oregon debacle?
If we are teaching kids how to deal with these type circumstances, let’s give them a complete lesson. Let’s correct obvious mistakes and hold people accountable because the otherwise what is being said is “I’ve made a mistake, so deal with it.”
My point is this: if we want people to have trust in a social structure we have to give them a reason to be good citizens and play by the rules: social mores.
In my opinion, I’m okay with this stoppage. If I were the opposing coach, I would forfeit the win. That’s the same thing Mike Bellotii should have did. How’s that for teaching someone Life’s lesson: character: do the right thing.
I don’t have an answer, My family grew up through Douglass and I have cousins on the team and most of those young men have nothing but football to be a positive in their life. But that school needs to educate those young men and teach them life lessons, not just how dribble or catch a football. But I do agree, I was pissed during the Oregon game but nothing changed still. I was pissed for Douglass but it happens, now with Finals, Winter Break, travel plans etc. are all going to be affected between three schools. I’m angry with the officials for even getting into this mess
Chris I think it would be hard for anyone to feel sorry for heritage hall in this situation.
I didn’t say for anyone to feel sorry for Heritage, I’m saying if every school spent money on a lawsuit for a call during a Football game, High School football game, we would have serious issues in the future.
It’s not that it was a bad call. Like calling a ticky tack reach in foul in basketball. It’s the fact that they called a penalty and didn’t know how to enforce the call.
CW, you’re right about missing calls, however this was not a judgement call so big difference. I have no dog in the Douglass fight, but do have a question for you. If 5 guys applied the “rule” incorrectly that took 6 points off the board with 64 sec. left in a playoff elimination game to end Heritage Hall’s chance for a state championship, would you still feel the same way?
I know I would be pissed, like I said below, I have family on Douglass and I am only two years out from High School, I thought the refs owed a huge apology to the school but I don’t think two weeks to decide if you will replay a game is fair for anyone
Pretty much spot on. It’s a HS football game. Get over it and move on.
The Daily Oklahoman is at it again, bashing Mike Stoops. I don’t know if people realize how hard it is to stop these offenses that are being put out there today. There just doesn’t seem to be a solution. Look at all of these high-powered offenses that are out there today.
In my mind, you’ve got to have NFL material at every position.
I really believe OU will field a helluva defensive team next year.
Mike has had to make changes and so has Bob. Anyone who has leadership experience knows that following change, there is a decline in production. For instance, change the billing software in a call center, agents are learning the software in a live environment, they are slower at resolving issues: your talk time goes up and customer are waiting longer to get to the customer: that affects your service level. All of that because of new billing software.
But over time, agents become more proficient, they get faster, things improve, service levels improve.
I’m telling you, Mike and Bob are up to something. And it won’t be long before OU appears invincible again.
Wait for it. Wait for it.
Sam you’re taking over for me as the optimist ok?
Wait. You mean OU doesn’t have NFL material at every position?! Unacceptable!
Touche’
Maybe I should say everyone has to be playing at an NFL standard, mentally and physically. We’re not there yet.
Hmm, I think we might be able to beat Oakland.
Good post, and I really want to agree with you fully, but there are still things holding me back. For example, the Baylor game coverage issues, where our recruits are tweeting out about it.
Sippin the kool-aid
I’m taking big gulps. LOL!
Not sure how you can defend Mike Stoops and our defense this year with a straight face. While there may be some stout offenses in the league this year, Texas was able to manage them pretty well, and ranked pretty high in most defensive categories. We clearly didn’t use our players to their strengths on a lot of occasions this year. Dropping Eric Striker into coverage as opposed to unleashing him on opposing QB’s is a prime example. Another would be dropping 8 into coverage and only rushing three all year long. Our defense has always excelled when bringing the heat. I’m not saying Mike needs to go, but another year of what he had to endure this year I could be swayed into that group that does.
Yeah, I agree. It was frustrating watching those games: they played passive not aggressive. You have good points.
Texas didn’t manage crap.
BYU scored 41 on them. OU 31. ISU 45. TCU 48.
Fact is, OU and UT gave up nearly an identical amount of points for the season. 23.5/game for OU (so far), 23.3/game for UT.
Oh I’m not trying to say they had a great defense. Their defense however does rank higher than ours in almost every statistical category. Comparatively speaking, theirs was better this year. They did give up some points to some teams that made you scratch your head, but the supposed best offense in the Big 12 only managed 28 against them. Whereas they scored on us at will.
Good post. We have not been well prepared or coached on either side of the football this year.
^^^ THIS
And the whole WVU removing all the LBers fiasco which damaged our LB recruiting, and the Baylor game this year. That is somebody who’s clueless and it’s been sad to watch.
I’ll buy what you’re selling.
Not buying this in any way shape or form. Mike’s statements after recent games and what he does on the field clearly indicate that he is completely lost and overwhelmed and has been since he returned. I don’t think Mike is cutting it at all and I don’t think he’s going to make it. I’m sure people will come flying in to inform me of their opinion that I’m negative but I’m not. I can see when things are working and when they’re not, and this Mike thing isn’t working.
Mike is disappointed: he’s a competitor.
Most people are polarized on Mikes defense: the defense is good or bad. There’s no middle ground. Here’s what I mean: most people agree that today’s offense can stress a defense. If you stop them, you’re great. If you don’t, you can’t play defense.
Relative-deprivation: the perception of an unfair disparity between one’s situation and thatof others.
The key word is “perception.” In short, how we view ourselves relative to the way we think others see us? We are not considering everything as we assess ourselves. We cast a negative light on ourselves because we’re OU and everyone thinks we should be great. What we end up saying when we don’t perform well is we didn’t meet the standard held for OU. So, we suck.
Now, switch that around: let’s look at all of the traditional powerhouses: Alabama, USC, Florida, Texas, Miami, Ohio State, and Oklahoma to name a few. I could name more but you get my point: let’s consider how these teams have faired against spread offenses.
You will see that they’ve all struggled and have given up massive yards to offenses. We’re looking at like-situations.
The next question now is did OU perform as poorly as everyone else? Knowing all that we know, now how does OU stack up?
All I’m saying, we’re not as good as we need to be. However, we’re not as bad as it seems and closer than people think
Understand what you’re saying but you’re preaching to the choir on the “perception” issue. The perception, for years, was that we didn’t play defense and the SEC did. Defensively speaking, the reality was, we played “OK” defense, and the SEC defenses only looked all world when facing offenses that huddle up and play 50’s era “old man” football.
The uptempo spread offenses have stretched defenses to the breaking point and defenses are now having to defend 30% more plays per game than they did 10 years ago. I get that and I fully recognize the days of opponents not crossing the 50, shutouts, and holding opponents to 100 yds of total offense are gone forever in this league.
All that being said, the passive, scared, weak schemes we have put out there this year have been more of a punchline than anything. I think anybody with a pair of eyes can see that those guys have not been put in the position to succeed quite a bit and it has cost us games because we play scared and did stupid things other teams laughed at us for doing during a game.
Decision to put DBs 9-13 yards off of WRs and force them to stand their and get their butts beat all the way down the field and then stand there and yell at them when they come off the field is disturbing.
Decision to drop Striker into coverage and rush 3 into 5 is disturbing.
Decision to pull all the LBs and force the defense to stand their and get run all over right down the field is disturbing.
I can’t figure out what you’re looking at that leads you to believe that we’re on the way back to defensive dominance. I don’t see that at all. What I see, is that we’re falling further back and getting even worse, and I see and hear a DC who sounds increasingly shell shocked, helpless, and completely overwhelmed. This defense (entire team really) returned a big nucleus of players from last year’s Sugar Bowl champion team and found a way to be worse. I don’t see this defense being “close”.
I was the lone avenger on here in the pre-season that was asking everybody why it was unanimous that this defense would be better (or even “special”) than last years, and the universal answer was the return of Jordan Phillips which made me chuckle. Never understood the logic behind that.
Maybe. But it doesn’t excuse how we played earlier in the season. That’s on Bob and Mike too. You can throw in Heupel as well.
Who are you guys rooting for today? What outcomes are best if you’re OU?
I want Bama to lose, so the SEC “might” get shut out of the Playoff. Other than that, I don’t really care. There isn’t a single team going to make the Playoff that I actually would “want” to win the NC. Not a fan of FSU, Bama, or Oregon…..and it certainly doesn’t help OU to have a school like Baylor or TCU win it.
At this point, I’m kind of hoping Oregon wins it. We don’t compete with them for many players.
No way they leave out an SEC team. Even if their top team had three losses, they’d announce an adjustment to the selection algorithms. Of course, by “algorithms” I mean money changing hands in a smoky room at ESPN HQ.
I would like to see Alabama get beat by Mizzou, Ohio St get beat by Wisconsin, FSU get beat by Georgia Tech, TCU beat ISU, Baylor beat KState and of course BOOMER SOONER in Bedlam. That would make the playoff selection really interesting.
…’bama/fsu for title with bama win…………ou just needs to win the last two then figure out what the hell they’re doing across the board…….
All in for Haughton anyway….Reid would be a nice get but now i think he ends up a Tiger…..
Quick story for the TFB family.
So this week, Mike Gundy was giving a recruit’s father a tour of the OSU facilities and explaining their Bedlam preparations. The father watched as the entire defense lay flat on their backs. Upon hearing the whistle, the players would flip from their backs to their bellies, sprawl, and shout, “Not fair!” The next whistle, they’d flop to their backs again, sprawl, and shout again, “Not fair!”
The father watched this for several iterations. He then turned to Gundy. “That’s a strange drill. But I’m glad to see the staff takes stretching seriously.”
Gundy returned a confused look. “Um. Yeah, sure.” He raised his whistle to his mouth and blew three loud bursts. He then shouted at the players:
“That’s enough tackling for one day, boys! I think we’re ready for’m.”
Did they practice the Turkey Leg Toss too?
After hopscotch, yes.
Is Reid a LSU fan? They have not had a good year. From what I know isnt their Def young? It would seem we have some selling points but if he grew up a fan I get that.
His older brother played safety there, so yeah, he is probably a fan to some degree.
Well that makes sense. I forgot they had said that about his brother. That really does stink. Kid looks like he can play. Maybe they can some how close this thing.
Question concerning the Justin Reid LSU offer. It reads as a possible academic scholarship and not a football scholarship. Does that mean they want to grey shirt the kid?
I think he just worded it different. The kid has a Stanford offer so maybe he was trying to be eloquent.
OU injury situation for bedlam. Knight and Grissom out, Wilson and Bell in, Shephard ( game time ), and Hayes unknown. Is that right?
Maybe commits after bedlam for 2015: Dalton, Campbell, K. Orr, C. Virgil?
Maybe for 2016: Bundage ?
Is it just me or have there been a lot of de-commits lately?
A lot of TAMU kids have either de-committed or opened up their recruitment. Something stinks in College Station (though really it’s just College Station).
We get it both ways. Stoolwater from the North and College Station from the South. It all stinks.
Yes. We bring the beef to a big, geographic stink burger.
Any tweets from the recruits on campus yet?

Ah You, that name sounds familiar.
His uncle played defense for OU & is now a GA a OU.
Yes, I remember him well. CJ Ah You was a great player for us a decade ago. He was one that the announcers always had to explain when he made a big play that the crowd wasn’t booing, they were cheering “Ah You”.
Sorry to have all these questions. BUT why did h had grant to scholarship lingo. I have never seen a kid say full “grant” scholarship. Is there anything to that?
Nope. That just means Reid understands the value of what he was offered.
That’s my thinking too that he just referred to the offer for what it really is.
He reads and stuff.
……just have to beat these people! BOOMER SOONER!!!!!!!!!!!

I think the oklahoma media that attends mike gundys pressers are all secretly hoping a loss today would be his final game at osu.
I’ll miss him. He makes trolling easy. Looks like an angry douche porcupine.
And Bill Snyder a wise turtle.
I just don’t know that we can score 48 unless we play flawlessly which this year is not likely. I’m kind of amazed our oline is actually number one in fewest sacks allowed.
That stat surprised me also. I say, feed Perine. Wherever he takes us.
Saying that, I don’t see a score of 48.
No I only see 48 if this team plays 100%

Jordan thanks for all the updates. How are we looking for the ones visiting that aren’t committed?
Great pic but who is it?
Whoops! Didn’t see the “See More” below the pic. My bad.
…….they did one of these last yr and they all signed with other schools…lol
Isn’t Reid too smart for the sec? I mean he could throw off their entire academic curve.
A cow is too smart for the SEC.
Lol probably but outside of Baylor and the shorthorns, the big 12 isn’t much more strict on academics.
You mean, outside of the University of Texsa?
the only reason Vanderbilt is in the conference
How did we ever lose to TCU? They are not looking that good today
We puked down our leg. They are gonna cost themselves if everyone else wins.
Agree 100%
I’m not sure if I read it here or not but there’s a rumor about us backing off hearne. Wanted to know if tfb was aware of this? If so I think they’re making a mistake unless they know of someone better. I think they take wariboko no matter what but at this point I wonder if Barnett really is good enough.
What I like about hearne is that he’s somewhat undersized (as far as weight) but has a good frame and I could see him adding serious weight and becoming a monster guard.
I have not seen anywhere that has said OU is backing off Hearne and he is on his official today. Barnett is the one with by far more upside but will need a year to redshirt. Wariboko will also need to redshirt to get his body right and gain strength.
I don’t know Barnett got harassed last night. Not good for a guy going to a top tier program.
Plus I’m not sure how much of barnetts current weight is healthy weight. Hearne looks like a DE so to get to 310 will take a lot of work but he should be able to do it with all muscle working with schmitty.
You have all seemed to consistently hold that this offer from lsu to Reid would be fatal. Is there ANY chance OU still lands him?
I think it automatically cuts our odds from 50/50 down to 33%.
Some are disputing that the offer has been made. That they are still evaluating him.
It’s funny that the cowgirls top commit is on an official to USC.
tcu better turn it on in the 2nd half or they’re giving the committee a reason to leave bama in with a loss and to get passed up by baylor since everybody’s making a stink about the whole head to head crap

Jordan are we considering offering this kid? I know he’s been at most of the home games with Sunderland or are we offering him a gray shirt?
Gonna miss this guy in a way…
Looks like Orr deccommited from Louisville.
