Maea Teuhema: Our guy Brandon Drake caught up with a surprising visitor for Bedlam who is none other than five-star offensive tackle, Maea Teuhema. The stud offensive tackle from Keller, Texas has been committed to LSU since February.

In talking to Teuhema, we uncovered an interesting connection to the Sooners. It turns out that Maea is OU offensive lineman Nila Kasitati’s cousin! When asked if Kasitati is playing a role in his visit Teuhema said,  “Absolutely. He is one person I grew up looking up to. I saw him get out of it, doing the most for his family, and I want to do the exact same. Just someone I really looked up to…still do.”

However, most people know Maea’s brother plays for LSU, but who knows how that’s going? From the quote above it sounds like family is incredibly important to Maea, and he’d be a lot closer to his entire family in Dallas playing in Norman as opposed to Baton Rouge. Additionly, he’d be next door to a cousin, who can vouch for Bill Bedenbaugh. Plus, both starting offensive tackle spots are coming open next year at OU and perhaps Teuhema believes he can compete for one of those.

In commenting on the Sooners, Teuhema said, “OU is a great college and and great environment” and was clearly excited about the upcoming trip. We aren’t saying the Sooners are going to win out here by any stretch, but this family connection, among other things, makes this visit more interesting than we originally expected.

Darrin Kirkland: Most of you know by now that star 2015 linebacker Darrin Kirkland made the trip to Norman for the rainy Kansas game. We really didn’t give the Sooners much of a chance with Kirkland and probably still don’t, but it looks like coach Kish and coach Stoops don’t necessarily agree. The head man himself and Kish visited Kirkland on Monday, and you don’t normally make an in-home to visit players you think you don’t have a chance with.

Anthony Wheeler: We caught up with Wheeler last night, and he let us know that Oklahoma will do their in-home visit with him tomorrow. He has finalized his top schools which includes the expected teams of OU, Baylor and Texas. But he has also recently added a new school, LSU, to round out a Top 4. Wheeler said he will announce his decision at the Under Armour All-American game. An interesting development for a guy who, at one time, seriously considered committing just before the season started.

Ricky DeBerry: We spoke with two sources yesterday about stud 2015 LB Ricky DeBerry and both told us to ‘watch out’ for Oklahoma. The main competition for DeBerry is Virginia, TAMU, Alabama & Tennessee. Both sources said that they feel it’s really going to come down to OU and Alabama. DeBerry’s father really likes OU and has been fond of them for quite some time. We were also told that Tennessee is essentially out of it and that TAMU was unlikely as well. One of OU’s best recruiters, Jerry Montgomery, has been recruiting DeBerry and his family from the beginning.

The New Cali Trio: If you haven’t seen the updated visitor list for Bedlam weekend on The Original Posters, you can do so here. We caught up with 2015 CB Colin Samuel (Long Beach, CA) who let us know that he will be in town this weekend with, as he put it, “Biggie and Jojo” who are five-star 2015 CB Iman Marshall and four-star 2015 DT Joseph Wicker. UCLA is believed to be Samuel’s current favorite, but it’ll be interesting to see whether OU can make an impression this weekend. If we had to say there was a second place school…it would be OU. It’ll also be interesting to see whether UCLA holds a spot for Samuel with all the CBs they are already in on.

Anything new with Justin Ried or Josh W. ?

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

DeBerry, Wheeler, and Kirkland would be a nice haul at LB…Houston would be nice but probably 0% chance of that

    • Zack says:

Houston is definitely unlikely but I would like for us to pull one kid out of that HS to try to get a pipeline. They produce a ton of nfl caliber talent.

      • Gary Robbins says:

OU’s possibilities for linebacker are looking up. We just need that 1st one to start the flow. I also like Dwaine Thomas of Boutte, La. and now C. Peat has re-opened. Some of these OU has very little chance and others are right on the cusp. M. Jefferson, J. Houston, A. McGinnis. R. Deberry, A. Wheeler, D. Kirkland, and Anthony McKee. Surely OU can land 3 linebackers in this recruiting cycle.

        • Zack says:

It is looking up but until they start pulling the trigger it’s hard to know which guy we actually are the number one school for them.

      • Mr. Jones says:

Yeah I would be thrilled to get just one of those three for pipeline reasons alone.

    • Jordan Esco says:

I’d really like Dwaine Thomas as well, but I’m greedy

  • Jordan Esco says:

Man, where is everybody at today? I thought you’d be all over this OP.

    • SamSooner says:

This is news coma, just like food coma: it takes a while to get over it.

What has me excited about this team, is this year’s recruits. When you blend them with the recruits from last year, all of the pieces are coming together.

I believe this is the team that will start our Championship run. Don’t be surprised if OU doesn’t run off 2 or 3 in a row.

I always enjoy coming to this site. Between the TFB and the other posters, I get all the news I need, and more.

      Thank you!

Forgot to set the ol’ alarm clock.

  • JR says:

This is a huge weekend for OU and getting these guys on campus is a big step. Hopefully this will turn into a few commits over the next week and more before NSD.

  • Sam Philbeck says:

Love Open Posts. It’s hard not to be excited about the upcoming weekend opportunities for recruiting. Hopefully it’s a great showing!

  • Gary Robbins says:

The only name missing at present time is Will Sunderland!!!

    • hOUligan says:

Wow. Impressive view. Need to few of those Cali kids to keep that pipeline open.

      • Katyboomer says:

How many players do we have from Cali now? Maybe if we change our name to USO ( University of Southern Oklahoma ) we can land some more of these Cali players. JK

    • Sooner Ray says:

Are you trying to get the recruiting coordinator job? 🙂 You’re all over this stuff Gary, nice job!

  • OklaSooner says:

Things are looking up ! Got a little quiet there for a bit.

    Boomer !

  • Mr. Jones says:

    Teuhema…

  • kt-raida says:

Very excited about the late push that Oklahoma has been known for.

  • Mr. Jones says:

Do you think any of the Cali Trio may legitimately be a package deal? Particularly asking about Wicker and Samuel since Marshall seems headed to USC.

  • Ryan says:

Kirkland seems to be in love with Tennessee. The team whose butt we kicked this year, and may do again next year. Boy it’s hard to understand these kids and recruiting…OU not getting any love

    • Brian says:

We need to show Kirkland the love on Twitter!

    • Mr. Jones says:

I hear what you’re saying but this isn’t nearly as confusing to me as how Tech gets some of the high star kids they’ve got to commit.

    • Stephen says:

Tennessee has brought in some insane recruiting classes, not sure what everyone sees in them but they haven’t been competitive in awhile.

  • Sooner Ray says:

This weekend would be a good time to lay a good ‘ol a$$ whoopin’, just sayin’.

  • Jeremy Phillips says:

Richard Moore LB from Cedar Hill, TX just decommitted from A&M.. Was he ever a guy we recruited..?? I don’t recall the name…

    • SoonerfanTU says:

Good Lord. Cedar Hill is stacked with talent. I had no idea when I was down there for work about 2 months ago. Should have caught a game.

  • SavageSoonerEsq says:

I haven’t heard a lot about Mayfield and the scout team lately. Since TK’s injury, has Hansen taken over the scout team? I guess Thomas wasn’t running the scout team prior to the injury. I’m not sure how that usually works?

    • ratman says:

Mayfield has run the scout team all year.

      • SavageSoonerEsq says:

So, does the backup QB (in this case Justin Hansen) receive more snaps running the 2nd team, or would he get more snaps running the scout team?

        • Sooner 4Ever says:

The backup QB gets very few reps in practice each week (especially when your starter is a young guy who needs a lot of reps). The scout team QB gets quite a few of reps, but it is running the offense of the opponent our defense is preparing to play each week so it is of little value in terms of learning/ perfecting our system.

  • James D-Space says:

This weekend is shaping up to be a big recruiting opportunity.
    Do work coaches… Do work!

  • DCinAZ says:

    Everybody see this?

    #SoonerNation give a shout to OUr own @DruSamia who got his 4th star! He’s already #1 for us! #CaliSooners #OU #Only1

Give Dru some love if ya get a chance Sooner Nation!

    • Indy_sooner says:

I thought Dru was already a 4*? … not that it mattered, Kid is a STUD.
All said and done this class is severely underrated for some reason. IMO we are already far beyond where we were a year ago and I hope we close in on all these guys

      • Borba22 says:

I think it depended what site you looked at, some had him 4* others had him 3*

      • DCinAZ says:

Naw he was a 3* when he committed. Why do you think this class is underrated? They seem to be pretty highly rated from what I’ve seen. I think this class is gong to be NASTY.

        • Indy_sooner says:

Gotcha. I meant that I don’t get the feeling that the class is getting credit for just how good it it from the fans.. Almost like its a “Meh” for mos. I went back and looked and the quality across the board is amazing. Sprinkle 2-3 LBs and it is ridiculous

      • Stephen says:

He was 3* when he committed.

  • Fear The Magic says:

Im guessing 2 commits this weekend. Who wants over and who wants under?

    • SavageSoonerEsq says:

Not trying to be a negative Nancy, but I would take the under. However, as a rabid Sooner fan, I will pray for the over. Boomer!

    • hOUligan says:

I’ll take the under. The majority of these are guys are highly rated and taking all their visits. I can see OU signing several by or on NSD but just not getting the commit this weekend. Simpkins, if offered, might jump. Some talk of McGinnis.

    • Zack says:

The safe bet would be under or push but why not I’ll take the over. There’s plenty of 2016 guys maybe one of them commit.

  • rphokc says:

…gators got the csu hc………..cornheads after arky hc

  • Scott says:

    John Houston is Cali also!

  • John Garner says:

Another OPEN POST! Awesome. Great news about the 5-star OT. It’d be great if Nila and Bill could reel this kid in. As for LBs, Deberry and Kirkland would be golden. Hope it falls this way.

  • Wilson says:

K, has anyone heard of or seen this kid play (Eric Orgor)?

Can’t go wrong with the Open Post, especially the ones with some much various detail!

  • ellisbr says:

Ok guys, I just bought my bedlam ticket. I experienced my first bedlam game last year in the ice bowl in Stillwater, I finally get to experience one in Norman. I’m pretty pumped about it. What I want to know is, is there any sort of team activity or pep rally or anything that fans can attend (I plan on getting their early) and when do they normally take place if so? Is there a spot to check out the recruits that are going to be there? I want to be as close to the action as possible before the game even starts. any pointers or ideas would be great. BOOMER SOONER!

  • EasTex says:

Another big recruiting weekend with some fantastic athletes.
My sincerest wish is that we find young men, regardless of highlight videos and *’s, that are play makers. The kind of players that just jump off the screen on Saturdays and make those types of plays that are game changing in the biggest games and embedded in Sooner lore for years to come.

Will Sunderland will be hanging out with Iman Marshall this weekend, let’s hope he can really recruit this guy.
