Ryan Parker: For those of you who missed it, Oklahoma picked up a commitment from Tyler JUCO WR, Ryan Parker. Parker is a 2016 commit and tells TFB he was recruited by the Sooners as an outside receiver. – (Brandon)

Hunter Johnson: Oklahoma made their second 2017 QB offer over the weekend to Hunter Johnson (6’2″ 187 – Brownsburg, IN), who already holds a number of offers but was still rather excited about the most recent. Hunter told TFB that Lincoln Riley came out to watch him throw last Thursday and evidently liked what he saw, because an offer was extended only a few days later.

Hunter has visited a number of schools on his offer list and says that while he doesn’t have a trip Oklahoma scheduled just yet, he is “definitely going to try and get out there.” – (Brandon)

Jared Mayden: As TFB mentioned yesterday, I was told by someone close to Jared Mayden that he and his brother, Jalen, were in Norman on Sunday. I was told, “the visit was good…they (OU) made another pitch to Jared” and that Kerry Cooks will be at Sachse this Wednesday to visit with Mayden again. Also told that Bob Stoops met with both and told the younger brother and 2018 quarterback that he looks great on film and loves his size. Coach Stoops did ask the young QB to come camp this summer so they can do an in-person evaluation for an offer.

I don’t know which way this one will go, but it’s clear that OU is still right in the thick of things with the star 2016 CB. Jared Mayden is set to announce a decision this July at the Opening. – (Alex)

Baron Browning: I spoke with 2017 LB Baron Browning (6’4″ 220 – Kennedale, TX) yesterday, who told me Mike Stoops came by to see him this past week. I asked if an offer was extended and Browning said that Stoops told him to expect one by the end of the week. However, Browning says he has still yet to hear back from Stoops at this point.

There are certain guys in the 2017 class that any program needs to make a priority. In the secondary it’s Jeffery Okudah, who I have little doubt will not only one day be an NFL player but an early round pick at that. In my opinion, Browning has a similar type of potential.

Browning was out most of last season with a torn labrum, so his sophomore film only consists of 1 or 2 games. But even in that little bit of film, you can see his potential. What is truly amazing, though, is that Browning has been playing varsity since his freshman year and his film (which you see above) from that one year is incredible. He’s an absolute savage. Browning already holds a number offers including those from Stanford, Baylor, Arkansas and several others. – (Super K)

Stephon Taylor: Spoke to star 2016 defensive tackle Stephon Taylor (6’6″ 274 – New Orleans, LA), who told me both Diron Reynolds and Marcus Walker (OU’s newest GA)  have been in contact with him recently. Taylor already holds offers from schools like Alabama and LSU, but says that he’s interested in visiting Miami and Oklahoma this summer. – (Super K)

Kenan Ivy: I caught up with Baylor 2016 DB commit Keenan Ivy (5’11” 185 – Lancaster, TX) over the weekend, who informed me that he is originally from Atoka, OK and grew up liking the Sooners. OU has not yet extended an offer to Ivy, but he said Coach Cooks has reached out to him and plans to be by this spring.

Ivy isn’t the longest safety, but he is absolutely vicious and generates an incredible amount of energy at the point of contact. He also has fantastic range which is due in part to his athleticism, but also because he appears to have that ability to see the entire field as well. A lot of safeties, like quarterbacks, can have tunnel vision, but Ivy seems like the kind of guy who has a broad view and the speed to close space quickly. – (Super K)

Teton Saltes: Wanted to introduce you to a 2016 defensive end that we came across last week. Teton Saltes is a 6’6″ 238-pound prospect of New Mexico. A friend of mine sent us Saltes’ film and we absolutely loved his length and get off. So we reached out to him and what I learned only intrigued me more.

Last year was Saltes’ first year ever to play the game of football. Both of his parents were actually D-I basketball players. In fact, his father played professional basketball in Europe. But a coach at his high school convinced him to try out for football and, like most sports, it came naturally to him. Being new to the game, Saltes still has a lot to learn about using his hands, pad level, etc. but he just oozes potential.

It also just so happens that his mother used to live in Oklahoma (Tahlequah and Muskogee). Saltes picked up his first offer on Saturday from San Diego State, but I’m quite confident it’s just the first of many. Saltes also told me when we spoke that Arizona State will be out to see him this Thursday.

I’m really fascinated by guys like Saltes. It’s these raw but ultra long and athletic guys that find their way into the game late and turn into NFL guys down the road. What adds to my intrigue is that the young man is just incredibly intelligent. He has a 3.9 GPA and in speaking with his mother came to find out Saltes loves physics. In fact, he is attending a physics conference in Boston next month. Length, quickness, intelligence and hard-working…that’s a lot to like! – (Super K)

Micah Wilson: Another OK Preps player has committed to a D-I program. A guy whose game all of us here at TFB love, 2016 QB Micah Wilson (Tulsa, OK), committed to Boise State over the weekend. Seeing so many D-I programs come in and recruit the state of Oklahoma is exciting to me, and I think it’s good for both the state as a whole and the in-state programs as well. As I mentioned last week, I hope to expand on that thought in a post later this week. – (Super K)

Matt Farniok: Had a chance to catch up with 2016 offensive tackle Matt Farniok (6’5″ 308 – Sioux Falls, SD), who — as most of you know — is the younger brother of OU offensive lineman Derek Farniok. The younger Farniok holds a number of offers including those from Florida State, Michigan State, Arizona State, Penn State, Stanford and others. However, he doesn’t currently hold an offer from the Sooners…yet. He told TFB that Bill Bedenbaugh is planning to stop by in person later this spring and that an official offer at that time is definitely possible. – (Super K)

UPDATE (11:47 am): Teton Saltes’ mother just let me know that Oklahoma has reached out and will be visiting on Wednesday. – (Super K)

– UPDATE (12:09 pm): Friend of TFB, Demetric Warren, is reporting the Sooners have offered 2016 CB & Miss. St. commit, C.J. Morgan-Walker (5’11” 187 – Bossier City, LA).

Where is Oklahoma & Lincoln Riley with Jalen Mayden..? Is he a legit 2018 offerable QB…?

    • Indy_sooner says:

About the same place as many 2018 kids…it’s just too far out to tell.
Problem is that we also have Kendal Thompson’s little brother coming out that year too and it sounds like he is the real deal

  • kokevo says:

I really don’t care for the slow playing with the offers.

    • BoomerDave says:

You call it slow-playing, I call it careful evaluation. The coaches have offered everyone who they really like so far. The ones that they are not so sure about are getting further evaluation. I suppose we could throw out 400-500 offers if that would make some feel better about our recruiting.

    • Exiled In Ohio says:

That’s typically my initial reaction. However, I think the coaches typically do a good job of evaluation. It’s important to see a kid in person, and get to known him and his family. Just because a kid looks good on film to the scouts doesn’t mean he’s a good fit for OU. I think we were all very concerned last year when OU didn’t take either of the big name in-state lineman, and it’s looking now like that was a pretty wise decision.

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

Does Casey Thompson have an affect the younger Mayden as both are ’18 QBs? Thompson seems to be the better bet at this point.

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

What’s the deal with Ryan Parker? Will he qualify academically? With all of the talent we’ve taken in with recievers why go Juco?

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

Riley probably doesnt feel he has the 8-9 guys he can count on yet.

      • SoonerfanTU says:

That, and I bet with the big freshman class this year, he probably wants to spread the guys out a bit. I would think it will be tough to convince many good WR’s to come to OU out of the 2016 class, given the talent in the class directly in front of them. Probably easier to convince a JUCO kid. Just a thought.

Or maybe they just REALLY like this kid. Think he can/will be special.

        • Bob Edwards says:

I think this is the likely scenario. They are upping the number of receivers over all and want to spread them out so you don’t alternate between taking a bunch in one class and then a small number in the next class.

    • Randy says:

Plus we lose Sterling, Duron and Smallwood will be coming back from ACL.. I say more JUCOs the better, especially on the OL and DL.

      • Lane Gilstrap says:

I don’t see a problem at all with Juco on the OL or DL. We certainly need more help there.

    • Defend Colfax says:

I thought you wanted a Boom? We have a long way to go. This is good.

  • Cole says:

I’m really hoping they can land Duvernay. Austin Kendall needs to step his recruiting game up. And I’m hoping OU lands Mayden at The Opening because that could be the defensive centerpiece like Kendall is for offense.

  • Cole says:

Also…. Could you guys have an article showing all the guys that OU is battling Texas for in recruiting? I know it’s not as big as it used to be but it would be cool.

  • Slim Sooner says:

We needed a BOOM and we got one, so welcome to Sooner Nation, Ryan Parker! He could turn out to be a star receiver as much as anyone else. Where’s Denzel?

  • Boom says:

Riley wants speed and more speed so if Parker is a true 4.4 he fits Riley’s mold. Not sure we have pure speed with most of the WRs we have today. Boom

    • Mysterio1 says:

We don’t, I have said that for years. Norville went after 4.5-4.6 guys. We had one true burner and his name escapes me right now.
Oklahoma needs Baylor speed, if we are going to beat them we need faster play makers at WR and a better defense.

    • Fear The Magic says:

I know that its hard to tell from vids but by watching Parkers hudl he doesnt look like a 4.4 kid. At least not to my eye.

      • TheFuerte says:

Our school played Fossil Ridge Parker’s senior year. In speaking with our coaches about his abilities as a football player, our OC said that Parker is “one of the best I’ve ever seen.” This guy coach TX 5A ball for 20 years and had RGIII in his district. He’s seen plenty of talent. Let’s hope we can get the kid on campus.

        • Fear The Magic says:

          Great endorsement. Thanks for sharing.
As I said, its really hard to judge speed up some of the vids.

          • TheFuerte says:

I actually asked the sam3 coach about Parker’s speed before they went out for spring ball this afternoon. He said that the kid is faster than he looks on tape, but he did admit he’s probably not as fast as some of Baylor’s guys. His ability to go up and get a ball in traffic and make a touchdown out of nothing is what is most impressive.

    • JD says:

I like what we have now. Size (Andrews, Todd, Mead), speed(Shepard, Humphries, Westbrook), strength(Andrews). We have bad matchup possibilities for just about every conceivable defensive player. He’s definitely going after speed though. I just hope he makes sure we don’t get too one dimensional.

      • John Garner says:

I know he’s not a WR but Flowers will cause defenses some problems, hopefully headaches, as well.

RB recruit Whaley is going to be on KREF in about 10 minutes for those who care.

  • Sooner Ray says:

Saltes plays like a wild animal…I like it.

  • J.K. Abbott says:

I don’t care how long Kenon is, he can play for me any day. Lancaster has and has put out the talent every year. Kenon plays hard.

  • J.K. Abbott says:

Sales will have 30 plus offers from the big boys when his film gets out. That cut with him on PAT Defense. That is not fair.

  • J.K. Abbott says:

    Ryan Parker. Great Find!

  • BoomerDave says:

Got the feeling that Saltes’ mom is excited to hear for OU. Great job Super K!

  • thebigdroot says:

I can’t wait to see K’s take on the Oklahoma HS kids. I’ve said for a long time there is a lot of talented kids in Ok. There is some in the small schools who never get a glance because they can’t afford to go to the camps, and don’t get the knowledge like Texas athletes. Too many coaches don’t worry about teaching technique. JMO

  • Daryl says:

Warren seems to be yet another corner that plays way off rather than press. It would seem the rumors of them playing press is not being found in our recruits.

    • BoomerDave says:

I assume you mean Walker, not Warren. That’s the way most HS DB’s are taught. Nothing wrong with that if you have good reactions and closing speed.

      • Daryl says:

Sorry I got name wrong. I agree the style can work all I was addressing is we keep reading that they the team is doing way more press coverage but we continue to see film on guys that are not press guys. That’s all

  • Reuben63 says:

That QB Hunter lives in the town over from me in Indiana . i think ill head over for some games wearing All OU apparel. maybe motivate him to see the light .

  • John Garner says:

The Ryan Parker BOOM came out of left field. Don’t recall anyone talking about him. Leave it to Gundy to find a gem where no one else is looking. Least ways the recruiting media. Kid’s got wheels so Cale earned part of his check this weekend.

  • jonnyBgood says:

Baron Browning. First off, he is already on the All Name Team as that is a MAN’S name if I have ever heard one. Second, the kid is already a freak and that’s scary. The first thing I noticed (other than size) was the kids ability to keep himself upright and out of the “trash”. That is possibly the biggest attribute I look for when watching tape on a LB because if they are on the ground half the time they are worthless. The one play where he caught that kid from behind was something else too. He just runs to effortlessly it’s scary. Judging from the fact Stanford has offered leads me to believe this kid is also in the books which is fantastic. When first I read Super K saying this kid may be a stud pro someday I was thinking hyperbole but when you watch the tape and take his age into consideration you can’t help but feel the same way. Amazing young athlete and I really hope Stoops and Co. push hard to make this kid a Sooner. He may only be on campus for a few years but man those could possibly be 2 awfully fun years! Great OP as always fellas! Boomer!

  • Dustin says:

I watched the entire Saltes film with my mouth wide open. Offer that kid NOW!!

    • JD says:

Hope his momma is a sooner fan and has final say!

Go get the boy with the family roots in the Tahlequah area. Give us something to cheer about again after Skinner left. Lol.
