Open Post | Weekend, Sept. 25th – 27th

Levi Draper: This past summer the top 2017 LB in the state, Levi Draper, committed to Oklahoma State. Given the limited number of OU level prospects in the state each year, of which Draper most certainly is, that commitment to OU’s in-state rival was a bit of a blow.

After speaking to a few people with knowledge of Draper’s recruitment, however, it sounds as though there remains some level of interest on both sides of the equation. I have been told the OU coaches are in regular communication with Draper, one person even going so far as to say the OK Preps LB and OU’s Kerry Cooks are in touch ‘every other day.’ – (Brandon)

Trevor Speights: Earlier this week we noted that Georgia is now Devwah Whaley’s top school and things turned in UGA’s favor following Whaley’s recent visit to Athens. Here is the relevant part:

TFB’s Andrew King spoke with a source who said that the UGA visit went well…really well. We haven’t been able to confirm through two sources whether a silent commitment has happened, but we get the unambiguous impression that even if a commitment hasn’t happened, Georgia jumped to the number one spot for Whaley.

It sounds like the Sooners may have caught wind of this as well. TFB’s Alex King caught up with 2016 RB Trevor Speights (Mcallen, TX), who said he is expecting OU’s Jay Boulware to be in attendance at his game this week. Speights holds a number of offers from the likes of Texas A&M, Tennessee, Stanford and several others.

You may recall Speights visited OU back in February for a Jr. Day, but an offer did not happen at the time. Don’t be surprised, however, if one comes in the very near future. – (Alex, Super K)

Jaylon Jackson: One of the top 2017 RBs in the state of TX, Jaylon Jackson (Cedar Hill), was in attendance for the OU/Tulsa game last week. Jackson came away impressed with the size of the stadium and the fact that the “fans fill it up.” He also made a point to mention the OU offense standing out as well.

Jackson shared that he should be back in Norman for another game later this season. Jackson already holds a few D1 offers but is waiting on an offer from the Sooners. – (Alex)

Dalton Wood: By now most of you know about the ongoing situation with 2015 OU signee Dalton Wood. You have also likely seen the comment response he posted on Facebook regarding heading to OU in January. I spoke with someone close to Wood and was told the following:

“(Wood) Says he is going up there in December as a walk-on.” The source did add, “will believe it when I see it.” Which I think is fair to say is a sentiment shared by many at this point after all the false alarms regarding Wood’s arrival several times previously. – (Super K)

  • Cole says:

As a fan I’m not worried if they don’t get a running back this class. Anderson is redshirting, so it’s just like he’s the back they sign next year. It’s not a bad thing to sign anyone but it would be nice to have someone of Whaleys talent. But they Speights kid has been tearing it up this year. I e seen his name all around Twitter this season.

Notice Kish is in Cali. seeing Juarez. That would be huge to get Kelly and him. But when would they start saying no to kids?

    Kelly
    Terry
    Jackson
    Juarez

    Would Jefferson decommit?

  • Swanny says:

Thanks for all the work guys, full team effort for this post. Can you imagine a LB core of DeBerry, McGinnis, Draper, and Younquist? Just from a sheer prospect basis that’s sweet.

  • Sooner Man says:

We are supposedly going to sign 5 LBs in this class and then we will hold one for Bundage as he is a hybrid then are going to sign 2-3 DL/DE. 2017 class will be 15 to 18 kids.
    Prediction
    1 QB currently have one
    1 RB
3 to 4 OL have one
3 to 4 WR/TE two verbals so far
    2 to 3 DL/DE
5 LB 3 verbals so far
4 to 5 DB 3 verbals so far
    1 to 2 ATH

    • soonerthunder says:

Thanks. I have top targets as (but I don’t know much):
      DL–Oliver, Daniel, Southall, Bledsoe, Bowen
      LB–Kelly, Terry
OL–J. Valentin, Moore (can this guy make his grades; do we have a chance?), ?
      DB–Bundage, Parker
      WR–Williams, Hardeman, Duvernay, Cleveland

Who do you see as our top targets in each of these positions?

  • Easton says:

I read an interview with Juarez where he stated that “OU had Kelly” in a casual way, as if everyone knew that.

  • SoonerFan16 says:

The other day Mique Juarez hinted at Caleb Kelly maybe being a silent commit to OU. Thought it was pretty interesting.

    • Easton says:

You and me. Same post below. Very interesting.

    • soonerthunder says:

Impossible. You are wrong. Want to know why? Kish can’t recruit LBs.

      • Mike Reed says:

According to 247Sports Recruiter Rankings they agree. They have Kish listed as the 170th best recruiter. The bad thing though……he’s our highest ranked. They also have Jay Norvell ranked #18. :-/

        http://247sports.com/Season/2016-Football/CompositeCoachRankings

        • RBear says:

          Ahh, what do they know?

        • Doobie74OU says:

I don’t care who ranked them but if Kish is OUs highest ranked and Bedenbaugh and Gundy are not ranked higher than Norvell I don’t put much stock in there list! Pitiful!

        • soonerthunder says:

I was just kidding. Actually, and I’ve said it before, I don’t think people account for how it hurt Kish when MS didn’t play LBs one year. We had Corey Nelson, a complete stud, and he never got on the field. How do you recruit LBs when the other schools are telling them we don’t even play LBs? I think he’s recovering nicely from that. He (OU) were in on tons of LBs last yr barely missing on some the best, and getting some of the best in DeBerry/McKinney. This yr Youngquist, etc very, very good with hopes of some of the best around the country.

    • Stephen Dale says:

if your interpretation of his comment is correct.

  • Easton says:

Draper being pursued tells me that, by assumption, the type of player at outside LB and DE is interchangeable. Lots of LB offers out that are seriously considering.

  • Stephen says:

Maybe an unpopular opinion but if there isn’t a solid RB outside of Whaley that we stand a chance with in the 2016 class, just go get the #1 RB in the 2017 class. Forgot his name but seriously runs identical to Jamaal Charles

    • Stephen Dale says:

you are probably right unless OU takes a flyer on the kid at McAllen HS

      • Stephen Dale says:

and that may not be a bad thing. OU’s needs change as players either develop or not…..other position needs ( maybe a rush DE / OLB/ CBs ) may overshadow using a spot for another RB in this class…

  • Daddy R says:

Well, since its open post on a bye weekend, and we are all bored, I’ll just leave this here for some endless entertainment. (really, you’ll want to watch again and again, laughing hysterically, and show many people.) Its been on youtube for a few years, a buddy of mine found it a few years ago:

    PARENTAL ADVISORY: Explicit lyrics. ENJOY!!

  • RBear says:

Wonder who he was watching- maybe Speights?
    https://twitter.com/OU_CoachGundy/status/647205578515681281

    • Doobie74OU says:

Ty Cleveland and Ed Oliver were on TV last night I assumed he was talking about Cleveland since Gundy is working with the Receivers now! I got nothing to base that on just spitballing!

      • Bob Edwards says:

The thing is the coaches divide up by region also so it may be for some other position than the one he coaches.

        • RBear says:

Right, they do not recruit solely to their position so who knows?

        • Doobie74OU says:

Yeah I know. Was just thinking with Cleveland just there and him being on Fox Sports Southwest it was convenient but as I said no way of knowing for sure!

      • Boom says:

Showed both OU (Reynlds) and another teams coach at the Westfield game.

  • rphokc says:

recruiting idea……….bowlware snagged seibert and talked bobby into recruiting and giving a scholly to the long snapper, horky…………would like to see bowlware search for the best ko/pr player he can find, someone who might be a game changer………if he also played another position that’s great but st’s can flip a game…….seems worth a scholly, any thoughts

    • soonerthunder says:

I don’t think he talked BS into giving Horky a scholly. Think BS thought of that. I think we do what we’ve been doing on ko/pr–using the outstanding talent on campus to fill the position, like the pros, but we have more #s to pick from.

  • BigJoeBrown says:

In terms of backs, it looks like me will be set for a couple of years so an immediant need won’t been need in 16′, I imagine. But I think the coachs will be swinging for the fences in 17′ barring that Perine and Mixon show that this offense can be rb friendly.

  • Will Narramore says:

Think they need to get 2 more big time receivers in this class. Losing Shephard and Neal after this year and Westbrook the year after

  • Thegunnfather says:

Do you think the new offense is hurting rb recruiting?

    • rphokc says:

think we’re seeing limited o due to the oline……..think lr is having to work around it and can’t do all he would like

    • Doobie74OU says:

It really shouldn’t if the Rbs are watching the NFL and that is there ultimate goal. The days of a three down do everything back are going by the way side. The only guys that can do that are not only good rbs but also great receivers, and real good blockers and all that is taught in this offense.

    • RBear says:

IDK, through three games we’re averaging 182 yds per game on the ground and that doesn’t count any rec yds by RB’s. Give it time.

    • Sooner 76 says:

I think the current talent level is a bigger impediment.

    • BoomerDave says:

      YES!!

    • SoonerfanTU says:

Because one running back may have picked Georgia over us?

      No.

    • Bob Edwards says:

The last three years LR was at ECU he had a running back with between 1100 and 1600 yards total offense. Two of those years they were over a 1000 yards rushing. It isn’t going to hurt us recruiting the right kind of backs for this offense.

    • F1at1ined says:

It won’t hurt recruiting if we still are productive, remain a national powerhouse and demonstrate we can be a legit heavyweight contender. We may change our type of RB target but in all honesty, the NFL likes RB with less mileage and experience catching the ball and pass blocking. We have seen guys like Monte Ball with a lot of collegiate carries break down and he is currently it of work and guys like Murray, Forte, Foster and McCoy thrive in the NFL as dual threat guys.

  • RBear says:

texsa vs osu has an O/U of 59- take your pick.

    I’ll go overs.

    • Doobie74OU says:

I think oSu can score 52 on them and I think they can muster 10 points at least. Over sounds right to me!

  • Glocal Sooner says:

75 Scholarships available. If everyone that is eligible comes back next year (which never happens), we’ll have 80 if you include the current commits for this year. Sanchez already alluded to that fact that he would only play this year then leave. So you could in theory make that 79 slots taken if he goes. I’ve heard that we won’t be taking as many players this year as normal. Remember, we have a really young team. I think we’re just looking for 1 RB, 2 WR, 2 OL, 1 DE, 1 DT, 1 LB, and 1 S. This is in addition to what’s already committed. Just my thoughts.
Contrary to popular belief, I think we really need to secure 1 RB in this class. It doesn’t have to be a Mixon 5* type but a solid 3* or better. RB depth is important. Just think about our current group. Anderson went down. We’re left with Perine, Mixon, Brooks, Ross. In the Tulsa game, Perine got hurt and was out for a bit. That left us with 3 RB’s available and we run quite a few sets with 2 RB’s. That’s only 1 left on the bench.

    • Bob Edwards says:

Yep and of those Brooks and Ross are gone after next year. Perine and Mixon can go pro after next year. It’s possible that at the end of the 2016 season, we are down to a single scholarship running back.

    • Sooner 76 says:

You have 85 scholarships available. OU has 83 on scholly right now, with 12 seniors. That allows 14 new schollies for next season, barring any attrition, which we know will happen. We just don’t know how much. 6-10 is the usual range.

10 players have given verbal pledges so far, which leaves 4 plus attrition.

    • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Sanchez isn’t ready for the league. Sorry, but some players need all four years.

      • rphokc says:

if a player wants to go nfl, I think stoops arranges some process where he gets a projected draft grade from scouts, is that not true? I would think it wouldn’t be very high to warrant leaving, imo

      • Zack says:

We’ve seen several guys leave early that shouldn’t. I believe TJ recently has said he wishes he would have stayed one more year. Other guys that needed another year are Reggie smith and Malcolm kelly.
So guys will leave no matter what and I know Sanchez believes he can compete in the NFL

      • SoonerfanTU says:

I don’t think he’ll get any better. This is as good as he gets, health not withstanding.

      • Sunshine the 2nd says:

No he ain’t. A good ballhawker but I’m guessing he’ll time slow as hell. Maybe put on 20 lbs & convert to safety for the league except he can’t tackle worth a damn so I’m not sure he has much of an NFL future.

        • SoonerSpock says:

Every undergrad can request and get from the NFL a projection on their draft projection. It is then incumbent on Stoops and staff to discuss the pros and cons of coming out early. A very high number have in the past elected to stay for their senior season. I expect Sanchez will return for his senior year if he wants to maximize his long term earnings in the NFL.

  • Eric Hoffpauir says:

Interesting that Jackson notes that fans fill up the stadium. Texas is starting to get into ticket sales issues – they still have tickets left for OU-TX, and they have a lot of tickets left to sell for conference play, even for this weekend.

  • Scott says:

Hey Football Brainiacs is Brandon Burton being recruited as WR or S ?

  • soonerthunder says:

Super K, anyone–I haven’t heard too much about how our young safeties are coming along–Haughton, McKinney, Sunderland are coming along. Any word?

    • Hotrod33 says:

That sounds like a man that doesn’t have confidence in his defense. I don’t think they are as good as the media is making them out to be. They haven’t played anybody and UTSA was giving away td’s last week. I wished I could of got some but I breakout if I get close to stoolwater.

  • Dustin says:

  • KatyOUdad says:

Aggie swagcopter arriving at Allen stadium.

  • Zack says:

Might need to send someone to check out this scat back for Calvary. Not sure how fast he is but 4 TDs shows some burst and is small enough to hide behind blockers.

  • Hotrod33 says:

Somehow I have a feeling that Draper is second-guessing his commitment. There would be and epic meltdown on the cowgirl boards if it does happen.

    • Zack says:

I’m not sure we will have to see how the next 2 seasons play out for osu. I think they’re very overrated this year so if they stay around 8 or 9 wins both this year and next then there might be some complacency going on. If they end up with an 11-2 season next year then there’s going to be some excitement around their program.
Same thing at ou though. If we can get the excitement back we will land some highly touted guys this year. I don’t think we’re out of it for dontavious Jackson plus we’ve got kelly locked up already and youngquist sounds like he will stay committed. I’m not high on Jefferson or JMT. I might be higher on Jefferson if McGinnis didn’t come in so far out of shape (i know injuries affected him but still)

      • Hotrod33 says:

They have excitement every year and they always seem to fail. I wish they would fail more and more. They were bad last year and all of sudden they are suppose to be really good this year. What is the OK media seeing that us fans don’t. I hope ut can beat them.

        • SoonerSpock says:

I don’t necessarily concur that the pukes always seem to fail. Over the last 5 seasons OU has 51 total wins, 32 conference wins, 3-2 bowl record and tied for two conference championships. OSU has 48 wins, 30 conference wins, 4-1 bowl record and one conference championship. To me that is a 68% conference winning percentage is a long way from failure.

          • Hotrod33 says:

Spock, I’m mostly talking about what the media says about them when they are supposed to be really good. It’s like they want them to be like OU and have that success all the time.

    • Daddy R says:

Well he committed to the Stoolwater Aggies. OF COURSE he is second guessing!!!!

      • Sooner 76 says:

He thought he was getting cash and it turns out he was named beneficiary on a life insurance policy for a grandson of Boone.

    • Dick Bump says:

He has plenty of time to second guess. I think he may have jumped the gun a little.

  • Sunshine the 2nd says:

If I were a big time high school RB, I don’t think I’d come to OU given our new pass happy style. Also, if I were a big time LB don’t think I’d come to the Big 12 period because the position is marginalized since 2/3rds of the team run 4-wide spreads (hope the HS kids ain’t reading this). Furthermore, we’ve got a nice track record of putting O-linemen in the NFL but don’t think 4-yrs of the Mummy spread is the best training for the League. Same for QB’s actually. If I were a HS WR or DB I’d be all over the Big 12 but any other position, I’d look elsewhere.

    • Katyboomer says:

OU is more of a hybrid spread. I think we will use the RB more then most spread teams. The main thing for our O, is our line. I think once the line gels you will see greater production from our run game, which by the way has been very good considering the issues with the O line. Go check out the stats , we run as much if not more then we pass. I too hope no H.S. Kids think this way. but if they do and don’t want to look at the stats, all they have to do is look around college football. This will address all the positions. Think about how many teams do the spread now and how many are changing to it. When done right the spread is almost unstoppable. So if players don’t want to play in the spread they will limit where they can go play big time. I think the days of the old school LB are over. You have to have hybrid LB. if I were a coach I would look a bigger SS and see if I could move them down in the box. Sorry for the long post, good post should start up some good back and forth for people on an off week.

    • Big Higg says:

If you didn’t watch this last game Perine ran for about 139 and a td. The running backs also get targeted in the passing game which is a positive thing in today’s NFL. No reason big time running backs wouldn’t/shouldn’t consider OU.

    • Rick says:

In the Tulsa game, OU ran 85 plays, 47 were rushing, 38 were passes.

    • Zack says:

The problem is with LB is we need to find rangy guys who can cover. If we had LB that could stay with receivers on underneath routes and pass them off to safeties on deep routes then we would hold up better.
When we bring in our nickel package we drop a db in the box and take away a pass rusher so the offense has the opportunity to dictate things. If we could stay in a 3-4/4-3 for 90% of the game then it would change the perception.

    • roygbell says:

I think you are just wrong. We are playing four LBers and they aren’t marginalized. Our LBer issue is that we don’t have really good ones, just like we don’t have good safeties and are weak at CB as well. We just need to recruit better LBers and secondary players.

    • Boom says:

Sunshine, I beg to differ. In the NFL, they are passing more than ever, basically the spread but since the TE is playing tight, they call it pro. Same routes. That said, LB’s would be better served in the Big 12 as they have to play run/pass more than most leagues. NFL does the same. If you are a LB going to NFL and you can’t cover, you’re not lasting long.

    • SoonerinLondon says:

Start winning CCs and Playoff games and recruits will come. It’s just that simple.

No team that consistently wins championships has a problem getting good players.

    • SoonerfanTU says:

Depends what kind of big time RB. If said player fits in a spread offense, why not? Look what Q did. Look what Murray did. Several others had good seasons as well. If you can run it, you will get your yards at OU.

  • EasTex says:

My old high school opened district play last night. With less than 3 minutes left in the game some of us expressed disappointment that they wouldn’t hang “half a hunnerd” for the first time this year and before we got the words out of our mouths a DB took a pick6 for 88 yards. Final score 56-21.

Marshall High has a running back duo that is amazing. The senior RB(5’8″ 180lbs 4.4 forty) is being overlooked by most, I fear he will wind up at some place like Baylor.
The junior RB is, as his HC described, one of those players that comes along about every 30 years. He is 5’11” 195, 4.4-4.5 forty, highly competitive and elusive, with 19 TDs in 4 games. His name is Cameron Haller and while some of the recruiting services recently listed him as a 3* there are no high light videos of him available, only full game videos. If nothing else, we will be able to enjoy watching him for this season and next.

  • paganpink says:

I turned on ESPN a minute ago and noticed that TCU is only favored by 6 over TT with an over/under of 84 points. Seems pretty accurate to me and a low vote of confidence from the odds makers for a top 3 team. No expectation of defense on either side I suppose..

  • Jason Vos says:

If Tech cant beat TCU today, they should go bury their heads in shame

  • EasTex says:

Interesting, the only Big 12 game on at 11a.m. today is Kansas and Rutgers. The execs at Fox Sports think that little of the 11a.m. games reveals what they really think of OU.

    • Boom says:

Saw that too. Fox was touting theory that 11am games are the ones everyone wants to watch, not the 2:30 – 5pm slot. Just another reason to leave the conference. When Fox jerks you around, that’s sinking low.

      • JrsySooner says:

Your not the only one who watches games. I live in Europe so that’s 7pm for me
love it….leave the conference and go where ? Sec Ga..Fla..Ala..Auburn why we can’t win our own conf and you want to move to a more challenging one…yes that makes sense

        • EasTex says:

If Mizzou and TAMU can do well there, we would excel.

          • paganpink says:

Being scared of the SEC is NOT one of the reasons we might not join their conference. Being scared of US might be a reason for some of those teams to not want us, but it would be all upside for their conference to have Oklahoma.

        • soonerthunder says:

aTm’s average finish the last 10 yrs in B12=8th place (remember this is out of 10 teams and ku always finishes last). Go into the sec–immediate heroes! beat bama @ bama 1st yr and 2nd yr score 42 pts on them (when auburn at home scored 28 against bama, lsu 17 and no other team in sec scored over 10 against bama). we scored 45 and put a whipping on bama w/a QB that gets beat out by a walkon and OU’s worse team perhaps since ’99.

Mizz was an average b12 team at best. go into the sec and win the east 1st two seasons in sec. predicted to win it again this yr.

both aTm and mizz played their 1st two seasons w/b12 recruited players.

no, ou would n/be moving to a more challenging conference. if they moved they’d be moving to a conference that can’t score w/an offense that’s better than either mizz’s or atm’s, and better defense as well. they’d be moving into a conference where there are one or two challenging games a yr, but who have pedestrian offenses so you always have a chance to win b/c they (bama/lsu) can’t stop you.

I’m w/EasTex. OU would excel in sec.

      • EasTex says:

I agree. They aren’t even offering OU a “reach around.”
2p.m.=Rice vs Baylor(yeah, everyone in the nation wants to see that)
        Maryland vs WVU
        2:30p.m.=Okie Lite at Texsa
        3:45p.m.=TCU at Taco Tech
Six of the ten teams in action in the middle of the afternoon, yet when OU plays on 3 Oct they will be competing with Texsa-TCU and Kansas-ISU for the 11a.m. slots.
        Pathetic.

      • Zack says:

If you think about it more TV sets tune in to the 11am games than 2:30. People usually take a break between the 11am game and the prime time game. And the people advertisers want to reach 18-45 year olds aren’t necessarily early risers on weekends so 2-6 is when most people probably do stuff around the house or go shopping.

        • EasTex says:

I don’t agree with that. If so why is KU and Rutgers on and not say TCU-Taco Tech?
Personally, I like to do my running around early on Saturdays so I can be home by early afternoon(like today). Doubt if I will watch any games today, maybe bits and pieces, as there are 8 hours of Barrett-Jackson Classic auction live on Velocity. The slugs playing today will all be repeated during the week.

          • Zack says:

Maybe it has more to do with capturing an audience with the 11:00 game to lead into the 2:30 game. Networks do it every night with their shows.

        • Bill Holder says:

I prefer the 11 AM games if I’m having to watch the game on tv. That way after my game is over I still have time to do other things. I know it’s not good for merchants or tailgaters, but it is for me when I have to view via tv. Speaking of merchants, I don’t see why the Norman businesses don’t keep up the pressure to make OU/UT a home and home. Forget the tradition that brings a billion bucks into the Dallas area and give some to Oklahoma businesses.

    • SoonerfanTU says:

So now both ESPN and FOX hate OU?

    • M Shuster says:

I looked at that today. I read an article in which Fox Sports said that was their “Prime Time Spot.” I don’t even think there was a FS1 game on at 11AM this morning, or I missed it.

Something drastic needs to occur. We should have left the Big XII when the going was good several years back. I said it then. Nothing good is going to come out of this conference. If we want to remain a viable athletic school, we need to get the heck out of this conference. I don’t care about OSU and I think we need to think of ourselves over them. If the SEC wants them then great. If not, to heck with them, I don’t care.

I’d even be happy if we went with the Big 10 or as a last ditch effort, the Pac-12. Either way we need to get out of this conference. It is killing us with TV, Killing us with competition, and Killing us with regards to recruiting. It is time to go!

    • BleedCrimson says:

I thought the same thing. For having a contract with OU, you would think that they would be pushing the later times for a big profile team.

    • Rick says:

ET, I think a lot of this type of crap will clear itself up with more consistant wins. Execs at Fox, ESecsPiN etc. say OU 3-0, BIG12, 11 am start. Move along to Nov schedule and OU is 9-0 going into the last three games. I think they will be moving for a more late afternoon or primetime start. OU does draw attention when they play with excellence.

      • SoonerinLondon says:

I was with you, but am now pretty worried about getting to 4-0.

The big 12 is gonna be a real grind of trying to out score good offenses.

On top of that, Texsa will come in 1-4 and either fighting like crazy or giving up. We’ll see

  • SoonerfanTU says:

I think UT is going to beat OSU today.

    • EasTex says:

I think Texsa will beat Texsa…again.

    • Hotrod33 says:

I believe Heard will run all over them and show that the cowgirls do have some weaknesses on d. Hopefully it will shut up some of these media gurus here in OK. Looking at the stats of their game last week, for a team that is supposedly have a good defense, they still gave up a lot of yards. It seems to me that UTSA was just really careless with the ball last week.

    • M Shuster says:

Texas scares me. The way our secondary plays, it could be a rough game for us!

    • John Garner says:

      Nope.

      • SoonerfanTU says:

lol, you say that as if I was way off. UT easily could have, and probably should have won that game. OSU isn’t as good as people seem to think they are, and UT isn’t as bad.

        • John Garner says:

Agree. UT isn’t bad. And they’re going to be a lot better by the time RRR rolls around. (FTR, I knew the Horns had lost when I wrote “Nope”. )

        • Shelby is a Patriot says:

Take away a couple of flags and Texas wins that game. Mistakes really costing them.

    • SoonerinLondon says:

I was on Texsa, Tenn, and TT. What a dope. All three lost on fluke endings.

Sux. Would have been a great day for OU if all three had finished.

  • Rick says:

Just a thought while I was out “honey-doin”, it seems Riley is developing a spread offense that (when successful) it will be wide open, “hit em where they ain’t” in the 1st half, produce a lead, then switch tactics in the 2nd half and pound the crap out of them with Optimus Perine, after they are tiring from the pace of the 1st half. We gonna need more strong backs. Perine and Mixon both are strong (Mixon offers several other talents, but Perine’s “let me run the heck over you” talent is a pretty attractive one). Brooks is the 1st half guy, he’s got “SEC SEC SEC” speed. Anderson is more of a Mixon type back that could play 1st or 2nd half. There is just something about Perine, watching him get stronger and stronger as the game wears on, when everyone else is starting to tire, he’s saying, “ball please, I haven’t run over that dude yet”.

So does this mean we just give up on Devwah Whaley? Mean if the Bulldogs where able to wow him on his trip there, I am sure we could do the same in Norman. Mean we have turned some heads with official visits to Norman, BY was one guy that fell in love once he got to Norman. I’d hate to see us stop on a guy if we can still turn heads with a well played and planned OV!!! But, like someone suggested the other day do we really need a RB this class, that we could use towards another talented LB or DB, mean IMO that would be much more help!
