Defensive Line Coach: We’ve been kicking around some names internally and put out several feelers as to who the Sooners could target as the next defensive line coach, and we’ll probably post some of our thoughts on possibly candidates either later today or tomorrow.

In the meantime, we wanted to pass on a note from a source who shared that both Mike & Bob Stoops are still in the process of completing their list of potential candidates. However, we were also told they actually did reach yesterday out to one candidate in particular.

It does sound like Diron Reynolds’ departure was a bit unexpected, if for no other reason than it simply happened so quickly. So understandably there wasn’t really a list of possible replacements in place. But at a program like Oklahoma and with a head coach of Bob Stoops’ caliber, they should have no problem attracting a pool of quality candidates.

Grant Delpit: Recent OU offer, 2017 safety Grant Delpit (Houston, TX), told TFB he has upcoming trips planned to Miami, TCU, Texas A&M & Oklahoma. Physically, Delpit is a massive safety who can squeeze space in a hurry. Despite his size, however, he stays low and can transition well enough to cover slot receivers.

Delpit is someone to keep an eye on. Delpit recently told me that he’s always been high on both Oklahoma and LSU (Delpit’s family is originally from Louisiana). – (Super K)

Charleston Rambo: Another early 2017 target the Sooners seem to be in a good spot for, perhaps even a great spot, is WR Charleston Rambo (Cedar Hill, TX). In fact, Rambo will be taking his third unofficial visit already to Oklahoma this upcoming weekend. TFB asked Rambo if a commitment was possible to which he said, “no, just coming up to chill with the coaches and watch the basketball game against Kansas.”

But as many of you know, recruits who frequent a campus as much as Rambo have a tendency to eventually end up at that particular school. And with guys like Robert Barnes heading up there as well, the Sooners are looking to continue to build an early core of recruits to help them build a strong overall 2017 class. – (Super K)

Clyde Edwards-Helaire: It seems the OU staff may have found another potential 2017 running back target in Clyde Edwards-Helaire (Baton Rouge, LA). Edwards-Helaire told TFB he has been in communication with the OU coaches, and more specifically spoke with Jay Boulware on Wednesday night saying of their conversation, “I feel very close to him.”

Now with any prospect from The Boot, it’s a requirement to point out Edwards-Helaire does hold an offer from LSU. We all know what that typically means. Rarely to top flight in-state kids leave the state when the Tigers offer. But interestingly, Edwards-Helaire shared with TFB he has a connection to the state of Oklahoma and has been to the state on numerous occasions.

Edwards-Helaire’s brother attended Langston University, so he is familiar with both the state of Oklahoma and the tradition at OU. “It’s a very nice area. I know OU has put out a lot of great running backs, and their academics are great.”

The Sooners have not yet offered Edwards-Helaire, but it would not surprise me to see one happen soon. – (Brandon)

– UPDATE (12:30 pm): The NFL just released the official list of those prospects who received invites (and are expected to participate in) this year’s Combine. Among the OU guys included are:

ILB Dominique Alexander
OLB Devante Bond
OG Nila Kasitati
CB Zack Sanchez
WR Sterling Shepard
OLB Eric Striker
DE Charles Tapper

Wow watching Edwards-Helaire’s film I see another Perine. Love that he doesn’t give up on the play easy. Looks like he’s Short but thick. Wouldn’t mind seeing him at OU. He seems a little more faster than Perine though.

  • Kody K. says:

Man, what a running back and a great receiver!

  • Dick Bump says:

Good stuff! Thanks for writing it.

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

Delpit is a ballhawking future SS. I think he’d be a playmaker in this pass happy league.

    • Tony B says:

He is a good tackler too. Put some weight on him and we are looking at Roy Williams type hybrid. And no I am not comparing him to Roy Williams I’m just saying he looks the part of that role.

  • 47 Straight OU Know says:

Any bets on how long it takes Casillas to put his hat in the ring. I will say 36 hours. Any takers?

    • Boom says:

He’s got money and doesn’t want to work that hard. I say he likes his gig and enjoys his freedom. Be good to have him come around with some advice though.

    • MikeyBoom says:

Lol knowing Casillas it wouldn’t shock me one bit haha

      • 47 Straight OU Know says:

        He did last time.

        • MikeyBoom says:

Yeah I remember. Thank God Coach Stoops don’t listen to that clown lol he’s so full of himself

          • 47 Straight OU Know says:

Right, for not having any coaching experience it just dont make sense.

          • tfb_fortyseven says:

Yeah MB, I actually spoke with him while on campus back in the ’80s, and he was so full of himself back then I had to just walk away.

          • Boomer4life says:

Why so down on Casillas? He is a national and super bowl champion. He excelled at his position. Just curious.

          • Birddawg says:

            I may be harsh..
But I will pass on a Defensive line coach who can be “sad” while watching the bachelor.

          • Stephen Dale says:

Tony C has publicly trashed the coaching staff numerous times over the years so I doubt he would be welcomed with ‘open arms’ by either Stoops…Tony is simply not a good fit for two obvious reasons : 1.) he has never been a D-1 coach ; 2.) has never been a recruiter for a D-1 school. While he had a long NFL career, that doesn’t overcome his lack of experience….Besides, Stoops tried with Kittles and the program is just now , somewhat, recovering from that situation……

    • Tony B says:

If we are talking OU def. linemen that would fit, I’d like to hear Dusty or Tommie Harris any day before Casillas. His demeanor just wreaks of higher than mighty.

    • Jordan Esco says:

You should have bet the under. It only took a couple hours.

      • SCKSChief says:

Is he coaching anywhere now, or just living on “former OU dude” status?

      • 47 Straight OU Know says:

S.O.B. I knew it. Correct me if i am wrong but he has 0 coaching experience correct?

        • Boomer4life says:

Theoretically…speaking…What could it hurt? He knows all the positions. He has been coached up, and therefore should know how to coach up others. I could see him walking into a kids house with a handful of rings on and getting the job done. He is in fact a winner. Not saying it will ever happen, because it probably won’t. I just have a problem at times when others bash or talk negative about a former OU player that won us championships.

        • Jordan Esco says:

          Far as I know.

          • Stephen Dale says:

Not a FIT…….Hopefully, OU will attract several EXPERIENCED coaches from whom to choose;…….

  • Boom says:

Clyde is 5’8″ 193 and can scoot. So far, both RB’s look like they would fit Riley’s system to a T. I live in Houston and heard about Grant from Lamar HS. One trainer I know called him a freak of an athlete. TFB bringing us some studs to watch over the next year. Thanks

  • Jake says:

When TFB produces their DL Coaching list…

  • Birddawg says:

I will take a stab in the dark and say the next Dline coach will have a Iowa connection in some way..Played, Coached or degree.
(Ex Corey Brown Rick Kaczenski ..Monty!)

  • MikeyBoom says:

Hey TFB and Posters, what about Ron Burton from Michigan State? That guy has produced some nasty D line man over the years

  • Charles Flood says:

That Rb definitely has some good feet and vision, follows and finds blockers well.

    • paganpink says:

He’s got bursts of speed at times that separates him even with what looks like impossible angles to beat. I like him a lot. He stands out as the best player on the field by far.

  • Boom says:

As K said, you have Bob so there will be plenty of folks put their name in the hat. Geez, why not, look who we have on our DL next year. Heck, that should attract a ton in itself.

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

Call Bo Davis, at least make him tell you no first. He makes $475k at Bama so it wouldn’t be a cheap hire though.

  • @DallasSooner says:

Any chance OU might look at a Texas High School seems that’s the way some colleges are going these days to get themselves in with HS coaches and improve recruiting.

  • Golfluvr13 says:

Ok, just throwing it out there. How can a guy with the last name of Rambo not be a defensive player. LOL

  • Brian says:

So we’re definitely taking at least 2 RBs in this class, right? We could lose Ross, Brooks, Perine, and Mixon all at the same time (though not likely)

Dobbins seems as likely as any target right now…

  • ALar03 says:

I wonder if Oscar Giles would consider taking a step up?

    • Malicong says:

I wondered the same thing last night. He is a great recruiter and knows Texas. The only issue I could see being a problem is his Assistant HC title at Houston.

      • ALar03 says:

Its definitely gonna be an interesting process hearing the names thrown around to go along with a player like Tupai still up in the air..

  • DR LEO MARVIN says:

Who’s the DL coach we reached out to?

  • bmrsnr says:

    Jim Jeffcoat?

  • paganpink says:

Clyde “the glide” E-H is fast and strong. Love that kid.

  • L'Carpetron Dookmarriot says:

My next child will be named Charleston Rambo, regardless of whether it’s a boy or girl.

  • Tony B says:

Edwards-Helaire is a hell of a back. Follows his blocks well, patient but once he hits the hole he’s gone, good hands as a receiver, and man does that kid have some serious open field moves (ala Roy Finch mixed with Joe Mixon). Fun to watch.

  • SCKSChief says:

So, yeah. DL Coach. Not seeing names yet and I honestly don’t know who is even out there. Seems like this happened really quickly. Usually coaches tend to have a list made up before a guy leaves because they give a heads up that, “hey, I’m looking at this other job.” Or, “hey, Stanford called and made X offer and I’m considering it.” Does it feel sudden to anyone else? Does it feel like Stoops-squared were caught off guard a bit?

  • soonerinks says:

I would really like the next DL coach to have strong Tx high school connections versus Iowa connections. We must re-establish our foot print south of the Red River if we want to bring in Tx high school recruits.

    • Eddie and Amber says:

I think we just need to get the most talented person in. If they’re a texan … even better. Our re-connection with TX HS’s and coaches shouldn’t come with someone just having “connections”. It should be a change in mindset and culture of OU: more camps, more time, more money, more everything to let the HS coaches know OU is truly vested in developing texas HS talent.

      • soonerinks says:

Seems to me that our lack of Tx recruiting success is directly tied to none of our coaches have strong ties to the high school football coaches in Tx. Look at the success that Briles has had and I believe that is firmly rooted with his ties to the coaching community there. Not saying that all of our coaches should have Tx ties but we certainly need some.

        • Eddie and Amber says:

Brides success isn’t because of ties … its because if Talent and Commitment to be successful in Texas.

          • soonerinks says:

You don’t think that all of those years coaching in Tx and friendships over many years had any affect on his success? Sorry, but I do.

          • Eddie and Amber says:

I’m not saying it hurts. But to hire someone with “ties” over talent to me makes no sense. I great recruiter can make inroads anywhere (Montgomery, etc.)

          • soonerinks says:

I never said hire a coach that has no talent. If our prime recruiting territory is Tx (and it should be), I do not see how you do that without strong ties to the Tx high school coaches. Can somebody outside come in and do that, sure but it will take time. Many reasons why we have lost the TX recruiting but having no coach with strong Tx ties is probably one of them. Recruiting national is fine but you also need a strong base from which to pull recruits and unfortunately Ok just does not produce that amount of talent yearly.

          • Eddie and Amber says:

Top recruiters, look at first two. ZERO again ZERO ties to where they’re recruiting.

            http://247sports.com/Season/2015-Football/CompositeCoachRankings

          • Doobie74OU says:

I certainly agree that I will take coaching abilities over recruiting ties all day long but the two guys you mentioned are not very good examples of your point. First Crisobal is the OL Coach at Bama and a trained chimp could recruit to that school right now as long as Saban is the HC and they are winning NC every other year. And Tee Martin is recruiting to a Traditional power house as well to explain a portion of his success recruiting California but looking at the list of recruits he signed 6 of the 11 are from SEC country where he was born (Alabama) and played (Tennessee), places he probably has extensive ties. Got to have a great Coach first, then be a Great Recruiter second, and having ties to an area would certainly be 3rd on the list!

          • Eddie and Amber says:

Saban is a MIRCRO MANAGER to the extreme. Not one detail or advantage is overlooked. He takes his coaching hires as seriously as he evaluates EVERY other detail of his team … That’s Saban.

        • Soonerfandave84 says:

Part of me feels they are prepping for leaving the B12

  • Eddie and Amber says:

I saw somewhere that Bama and a few other schools have like 5 (full-time?) recruiting – coordinator-ish positions. I assume its to help them evaluate talent, etc. Why doesn’t OU do the same? With more “hands on deck” might be less likely to miss on guys like Jacob.

    • Jordan Esco says:

      $$$

    • BoomerDave says:

Who says we missed on Jacobs?

      • Eddie and Amber says:

One: we only started recruiting him late; Two: he went somewhere else.

Sure you can say that he wants to leave town blah blah … That’s just a recruiting objection; we’ve handled that objection before.

I’m just say, the more people/scouts we have evaluating talent for coaches, surely can’t hurt …. sincerely Bama, tOSU, horns and a bunch of other schools that do the same.

        • BoomerDave says:

And you know he’s going to be great, how?? He was evaluated as a 2* by all the rating services a week before signing. Perhaps there is a reason hometown Tulsa didn’t even find him worthy of an offer.

        • soonersd says:

you should go to soonersports and listen to Bob’s explanation of Jacobs’ recruitment.

If you don’t feel like watching I will give me my take and PlayLikeaChampion’s take on it from a day or 2 ago…

“Stoops mentioned Jacobs recruitment (or lack there of) in one of the videos on Soonersports. He basically said that we didn’t have a real need at the running back position (after landing Adams) and that when they offered him late they did so considering him in more of a slot/wr position. He also said they were aware that once they offered that there would be a snowball affect with other major programs to snag him last minute. Also, that those other programs may have had more of a need at the actually running back position than we did.

I obviously paraphrased most of this… but this is my interpretation of the interview.”

PlayLikeaChampion soonersd • 2 days ago

“You are 100% accurate, but that story won’t be told. Bob also stated their previous commit now decommit at Slot was a better prospect at the Slot position. Some don’t seem to care about the truth, just the drama.”

    • SoonerfanTU says:

They are no allowed to have any more off campus recruiting coaches than OU or any other school is. As far as on campus? Not sure, but I doubt that is making the difference in recruiting.

    • PlayLikeaChampion says:

Bob said in his presser he knew his visit to Jacobs’ high school would draw attention nationally. Bob also said Jacob wasn’t the top Slot on their board. OU had others ranked higher. Once a particular Slot decommitted, they decided to go visit Jacobs. Joshua was offered at the Slot within 24 hours, but NEVER at RB. Bob said they preferred Abdul Adams at RB with his overall game and ability. He prefers RBs in the mold of Mixon. Bob said they only had one scholarship tagged for the RB spot in 2016. Riley confirmed Bob’s comments, when he was interviewed. Riley made it clear that he had no intention of risking an Abdul Adams departure with any potential RB prospect.

Regardless, Jacobs never officially visited OU, choosing to visit Mizzou and Bama, who were looking at him at RB. Let’s wish him well at Bama.

Nice to see OU got Mykel Jones in the Slot at the end, Top 100 prospect by Rivals.

  • Drew says:

Alright, let’s go ahead and close up RB recruiting. Dobbins+Clyde E-H both look great.

  • Jeremy Phillips says:

Interesting name I saw on LT for a DL coach.. Tray Scott.. Current DL coach at North Carolina.. From Arkansas, GA’d/coached under Freeze at both Ark St & Ole Miss.

  • Greenlantern Otis says:

Jerry Montgomery? what happened to the info about him not getting along with capers or something? maybe im making this up

    • Mark_in_VA says:

Hope that one works out better than the legacy this last NSD.

    • Dick Bump says:

Freshman highlights. He’d look good in Crimson and Cream.

    • Joshua Wilcox says:

      Pretty sad OU hasn’t offered.

      • BoomerDave says:

        Seriously? He’s a freshman!!

        • MoJoOkie says:

Diapers man; when they stop wearing diapers any decent team will offer at that point.

        • Joshua Wilcox says:

Seriously!!! That’s how it works now of days. Did you see the offer list he already has? Mookie might be ashamed of an OU offer coming in behind all those other schools.

          • MoJoOkie says:

Seems like a reach, but if that’s what you think you’re welcome to it.

          • J.r. Kamm says:

I think nowadays some schools are reaching too early. Gotta’ let a kid develop. If he accepts your offer as a freshman and ends all recruiting and you determine that he doesn’t fit your scheme (or a new coach comes in) when he becomes a senior, do you pull the offer?

    • BoomerDave says:

I commented on him 4 months ago when his freshman film first surfaced. Not sure what influence Mookie has in his life anymore. I’m sure he did grow up with a lot of OU memorabilia around the house. But I have since read that he isn’t as huge fan of an OU fan as we would hope.

    • Tony B says:

That’s quite an offer list for a freshman but I can see why he has them.. You don’t see kids that young performing like that very often.

    • Kanfdog says:

Best of luck to the kid! Looking at that film I realize that I have no idea what I am looking at. All I could see was how bad all the defenses were that he was going up against. Film evaluation has got to be so difficult and it is no wonder why this is such an inexact science.

  • Jordan Esco says:

    update added

  • Tony B says:

We all know what Striker can do and we saw glimpses of what Bond can do. Do you all think that Bond has the most potential out of the two due to his size or will Striker put on enough weight to become an NFL edge rusher?

    • Scott says:

Both Bond & Striker remind of Von Miller & Khalil Mack.

      • soonerguy421 says:

        lol

      • JR says:

Striker is not comparable to Miller at all. Miller is much faster, taller and a lot heavier even when comparing their combine numbers. I like Striker a lot but he will have to make the transition to the “Will” in a 4/3. Bond is faster than Striker and bigger so he has a higher ceiling. Overall, Striker had the production and Bond has more potential.

      • MoJoOkie says:

Yeah, while I watched the Super Bowl I was thinking that Von Miller might be helping Striker get paid.

    • OU Boomer says:

Bond is the better NFL prospect. he will likely be drafted higher than Striker.

    • Doobie74OU says:

Scott below mentioned a couple guys that play a similar game to Striker & Bond but they are both 6’3 250lbs while Bond is listed at 6’1″ 238lbs and Striker 6′ 222lbs. As JR mentions below I think they both have to change positions in order to succeed in the NFL. The top 5 LBs on one list were Kuechly 6’3″ 238lb, Dont’a Hightower 6’3 265lb, Jamie Collins 6’3″ 250lb, Bobby Wagner 6′ 241lb, Sean Lee 6’2″ 238lb. Some of those sizes could be comparable to the size Striker and Bond could be but on the other hand Lee and Wagner the closest 2 in size have been hurt a lot. Each player is different but don’t see either guy as a edge rusher. Maybe Striker or Bond can play a similar role to Clay Matthews the past couple years were he lines up literally everywhere and has good speed as an edge runner but plays solid as the Middle LB as well. Don’t know but going to be a challenge!

  • Scott says:

Bo Davis would be at the top of the list for me. He is young , good recruiter , has the $EC ties , and pretty good coach IMO.

    • Doobie74OU says:

He would be a great get but would be at best a sideways move in his career if not a bit of dip since he has been Coaching at Alabama for their last 3 Natties! Hard to lure a guy like that away without a Asst-Defensive Coordinator tag!

  • Breadburner says:

If you have to tweet out for the job…You are not a candidate……

  • Malicong says:

Reading around, here are some names that I am seeing thrown out for D-Line coach

Calvin Thibodeaux (is he OU ready yet?)
CJ Ah You (not much experience)
Ed Orgeron – LSU (not happening)
Tray Scott – UNC (interesting but not much experience)
Dan Sharp – TCU (doubt there is interest)
Brick Haley – Texas (doubt there is interest on either side)
Bo Davis – Alabama (doubt there is interest and not happening)
Oscar Giles – Houston (my personal favorite but has no ties to OU or the staff)
Carl Pelini – Youngstown St (even with ties to the Stoops and OU, the Pelini’s are probably toxic still)

I am sure most of these are not on the radar but it is interesting to see who fans want.

  • SoonerGray says:

My Lord! Clyde come on down…..incredible talent. Those over the should catches are phenomenal and one of the fastest spin moves I’ve seen in a high school back. Speed looks above average, certainly not a blazer but plenty to compete in our league. Great find by the coaches. Hopefully, the young man cares about character and class. If so, no chance he considers LSU.

  • Wilson says:

    Clyde = patience-vision-power-speed. I will take two please…

  • irishokie says:

The OU players invited to the NFL Combine sounds like an All-Star team!

  • Stikboy says:

    Alexander–12 reps, 4.7, Bond–21 reps, 4.89, Kasitati–24 reps, 5.3, Zanchez–wont bench, 4.49, Shepard–17 reps, 4.51, Striker–16 reps, 4.8, Tapper–27 reps, 4.8

These will be the numbers, feel free to come back and check!

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

Was looking at NFL coaches, and one assistant coach stood out to me. Joe Bowden, I wonder if he will have interest in coaching at OU at some point.

  • Chas Taylor says:

Does Ryan Broyles ever contribute to TFB? Also, does anyone know if he is still trying play in the NFL?

    • JD says:

He should go into broadcasting…looks like a natural

    • PlayLikeaChampion says:

I watched him on the 2016 Signing Day Live Webcast at Soonersports.com. He was a natural on their show. I’d get into coaching first, knowing the low pay in radio. He was talking X’s & O’s and seemed to enjoy it. He’d be a great recruiter.

Successful coaches are all go high energy 24/7 instructors, thick skinned, so it’s not for every football player post playing career.

I’m surprised he isn’t back on a practice squad in the NFL.

    • Jordan Esco says:

As of now, I believe the plan is for him to take part in OU’s Pro Day next month.

  • Dylan Cornell says:

Round projections for each of our guys?

    • PlayLikeaChampion says:

      ILB Dominique Alexander – 7th

      OLB Devante Bond – 5th

      OG Nila Kasitati – 7th

      CB Zack Sanchez – 5th

      WR Sterling Shepard – 2nd

      OLB Eric Striker – 3rd

      DE Charles Tapper – 2nd

      • Dylan Cornell says:

Interesting on Tapper, I think of him as a 4th-5th. But if he performs well at the combine I think he could get up to the 3rd.

        • PlayLikeaChampion says:

A guy like Tapper will benefit from a team with a real NT. OU’s NT’s didn’t draw double teams.

Tapper next to a guy like Gerald McCoy is a big sign.

      • L'Carpetron Dookmarriot says:

        The Best, Best Case Scenario:

ILB Dominique Alexander – 1st pick

OLB Devante Bond – 2nd pick

OG Nila Kasitati – 3rd pick

CB Zack Sanchez – 4th pick

WR Sterling Shepard – 5th pick

OLB Eric Striker – 6th pick

DE Charles Tapper – 7th pick

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

      Shep 2nd round
      Striker/Tapper 3-5
      rest 6-7 at best

    • Birddawg says:

      Shep 2nd
      Tapper 4th
      Striker 4th
      Sanchez 5th
      Bond 5th
      Kasitati 6th
      Alexander 6th
ask again with a week to go..

    • RBear says:

dunno but here’s what any true Sooner fan does on draft day:

OU Player gets selected in the 1st round, do 1 shot

OU Player gets selected in the second round, do 2 shots

OU Player gets selected in the 3rd round, do 3 shots

      and so forth…

    • Zack says:

      Shep – 2nd round
      Bond – 3rd round
      Sanchez – 3rd round
      Striker – late 3rd or 4th round
      Tapper – 4th round
      Alexander – 5th round
      Nila – undrafted

Ask again after the combine. I’ll adjust these based on how they do at the combine. I think all of them can fluctuate depending on how they perform at the combine and at the pro day. All of them can really help themselves by putting up good speed/quickness numbers and showing off their athleticism.

  • Oscar says:

Sooners announce they are looking for a new DL coach, and the markets go crazy! Coincidence? I think not.

  • KJ1123 says:

Big Joe Salavea at Wazzu would be my nomination for DL coach. Dude still looks like he can play. And I’d be scared to miss a tackle or he’d throw me up into the stands. Plus he’s familiar with MS I think he coach a year under him in AZ.

    • JD says:

These boards would go ape sheet if we hired a former MS coach…heck anybody connected to the Stoops really

      • KJ1123 says:

That’s true. Im not 100%, JS may have been before MS got to AZ. I heard he’s a good recruiter too. I think he concentrates more on Cali and the islands though.

        • Brian says:

I remember him playing for the Titans back in the day. That would actually be a good hire away from Wazzu. The Poly connections are important!

        • Jed says:

Cali and the Islands can give you a pretty stout DL.
“Hey Bruddah! You knocked that guy down and now he’s sleeping? No good, man, he’s disrespecting you!”
          “He’s dead.”
          “Oh, alright then.”

          • KJ1123 says:

Exactly. At halftime there will be alot of “Coach, I hungry…”

          • Jed says:

I personally volunteer to dig the pit. We’ve got local pigs. Might have to get somebody’s jet to stand by to fly in the tuna. Other than that, I think we’ve got it covered.

        • Brian says:

He was there at AZ when Mike was there…I think it was Mike’s last year and Joe’s only year there. I guess he would make as much sense as anyone…Thibodeaux and Ah You included.

      • Boomer4life says:

    • 47 Straight OU Know says:

What was there line like last year, was it any good. Granted they dont have the same athletes we do. Was just curious. He definitely looks to have intensity. But can he adapt to the #OUDNA?

      • KJ1123 says:

I’m not sure how their line performed, they are playing in ML’s offense so I assume they just have to be good enough to create some stops and let the offense do its work.

  • JD says:

I don’t see it happening but oh the comedy if we landed texsa DL coach

  • KJ1123 says:

Dont hire Casillas, he’s still trying to find Barry Sanders…

I think that Casillas, #75, who has lost sight of Barry.

    • PlayLikeaChampion says:

      Hahahahaha Classic!

Casillas has a College NC ring and Two Super Bowl rings, none of which Barry Sanders was able to win.

      Now, that’s strange.

  • Tony B says:

I see the Pokes got Barry Sanders Jr!

  • Framoka says:

OU with 7 to the combine = OU has lots of high quality playing time to replace. I’m least worried about both lines and our backfield; but LB and the secondary + quarterback depth have me concerned. Its going to be exciting to see who steps up this spring and if Kelly and Parker can get playing time as freshman this fall.

  • Daryl says:

Conspiracy Theory: David Shaw and Bob are very close off the field. Shaw knows that he has a star in Diron and that Hart is only staying for one more year. Bob knows he has star in Monty and opportunity comes for Monty to learn from Capers for one year. Bob and Shaw agree on 1 year training year for both. Let Monty go learn from Capers and Diron comes and runs a DL unit and recruit for one year. That is why Monty’s twitter has never changed and why Diron’s family never moved to OK. Win win all the way around!!!!

I know this is absolutely insane but hey what if it was true???

    • PlayLikeaChampion says:

Don’t worry I already thought of this conspiracy, so you’re not alone.

      Ha!

    • JD says:

If Monty learnt something from Capers then I could live with this happening

      • PlayLikeaChampion says:

Monty also worked for Greg Mattison at Michigan, who is a highly respected DL coach. I think he’s the only coach Harbaugh retained.

        • JD says:

Well he didn’t show last go around so if he learnt something from Capers then Id be all for it…recruiting wise heck yeah! Coaching wise meh..maybe the better talent will help. He had Phillips last time but looks like more talent to push each other this time

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

and Mark Jackson found out Monty was coming back and decided to commit on the spot after backing off when he left for GB

      • Daryl says:

Not to mention since Monty has been an NFL employee there are no recruiting rules on him so the class of 2017 is going to be unreal because he has been able to contact at will for the last year all the guys he wants!!!!

    • rphokc says:

      and monty loves ms

    • sracer says:

What have you guy’s been smoking this afternoon?

      • Daryl says:

I only smoke cigars on very rare occasion! I actually love making fun of conspiracy theory people, but when reading the board today something made my mind click what if. So I thought today I would be a person I like making fun of.

    • sracer says:

What have you guy’s been smoking this afternoon?

    • John Garner says:

Well then, the key question is: did Monty’s family move to Green Bay or are they still in Norman?

  • SamSooner says:

You know, there’s been a lot of talk about OU not recruiting Texas very well. There’s more talk about OU recruiting nationally. You know what, Cal, USC, UCLA are dipping their fingers in Texas and Oklahoma. What gives? They have one of the most fertile recruiting areas in the country.

  • SamSooner says:

  • Stephen says:

    A 5’8″ running back?

    • Brian says:

      What’s your point?

      • Stephen says:

Just thought we learned our lesson with the Roy Finch experiment.

        • JD says:

Finch had his moments…the broke ankle he gave the Bama backer trying to cover his screen route was greatness

          • Stephen says:

Not saying he was terrible but he never made the impact that bigger backs have made in this style of offense. Perine/Mixon/Murray/Peterson/Brown/Patrick made the defense respect the run and made the offense two dimensional. The scat back made it more one dimensional than two. I guess that’s how I would best explain my point.

          • JD says:

Lincoln actually prefers the scats or smaller backs I believe. He just worked with what he inherited. Maybe he will change his mind a bit and we grab both types moving forward

          • Stephen says:

What he inherited worked well. I’d love to have Dobbins and we will probably land him soon but having a troop of small RB’s is where I’m concerned.

          • SoonerfanTU says:

That has more to do with how good those bigger backs were, and not so much how “not good” Finch was. I’d say Quentin Griffin did pretty well as a smaller back.

Truth is, I want both types. There is an advantage to having both.

          • Brien Brown says:

Mean we have Anderson in the fold and Adams. I still believe Perine or Mixon one will be back after next season anyway, but still believe we take 2-3 in this class, and if one is a true scat back so be it. I love the small shift smaller backs!

        • Boom says:

Finch was 5’5 and 160 soaking wet. This guy is 193 now & will be 200 by time he gets here. That’s powerful.

    • Brien Brown says:

Nothing wrong with having a scat back, Q, Finch, and JG! All where scat backs and change of pace guys for us!

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

that feller below is the best RB ever, he is only 5′ 8″

    • Tony B says:

His maxpreps bio has him at 5′-8″ 197lbs as a junior and he looks every bit of that. Put another 10-15lbs on him at that height and that kid will be a bowling ball and even harder to tackle. I think by the way he catches the ball he’d be a hell of a fit for LR’s offense. I’m not sure he’d be an every down guy but use him in that Mixon role and he’d excel.

    • HoustonChiver says:

      Ray Rice – 5’8″
      Darren Sproles – 5’6″
      Quentin Griffen – 5’7″
      Noel Divine – 5’8″
      Shane Vereen – 5’9″
      Dion Lewis – 5’8″

      • Brien Brown says:

I was about to post this as well well Rice, Sproles, Lewis, and Divine lol I had already mentioned Q

      • Stephen says:

        Adrian Peterson – 6’1″
        LeVeon Bell – 6’1″
        Derrick Henry – 6’3″
        Todd Gurley – 6’1″
        Reggie Bush – 6’1″
        Arian Foster – 6’1″
        DeMarco Murray – 6’0″

        • Mark_in_VA says:

So, really, it’s almost as if height isn’t an important factor for a great running back. Things that make you go “hmmmmm”.

        • HoustonChiver says:

Your point was made by questioning shorter guys, I was showing you that just because someone was short doesn’t mean they can’t be high level, high production backs.

          But thanks for the repetition!

      • Jake says:

        Samaje Perine – 5’10” ??☕️

  • KJ1123 says:

I think Devante will be the surprise in that group at the combine.

  • HoustonChiver says:

That stutter-step in Edwards-Helaire’s first highlight was NASTY. Poor defender may need new ankles.

  • SoonerSouthoftheRed says:

Edwards-Helaire told TFB he has been in communication with the OU coaches, and more specifically spoke with Jay Boulware on Wednesday night saying of their conversation, “I feel very close to him.”

FYI, so no firing Boulware until after LOI ink is dry in 2017.

Hate to defend anything LSU, but their athletic department was top 5 in the country in giving money back to the school. About 19 million if memory serves.

Would be pretty dumb to cancel something both profitable, and something that gives back to help alleviate the budget crisis.
