Open Post | Weekend, Oct. 2nd – 4th (UPDATE Sat., 8:04 pm)

Visitors: Just wanted to give you all a few new names that will be in town for this weekend’s match-up against West Virginia.

Darrian Franklin: Tim Kish is doing work this year. We were able to confirm through a source that Oregon commit & 2016 LB Darrian Franklin (Downey, CA). Franklin committed to the Ducks this past summer and we’re hoping to catch up with him after this visit to see if the Sooners can sway him a bit.

Sci Martin and Stephon Taylor: 2016 defensive end Sci Martin (New Orleans, LA) confirmed that he and his teammate, 2016 DT Mastephon Taylor, will be in Norman this weekend as well.

The former does hold an OU offer and shared that he doesn’t have a commitment date set, but it sounds like a decision could come shortly after his final visit. It sounds like at the moment, TCU is the only other visit he has scheduled following this weekend’s trip to Norman. But Martin did admit he may still take a trip to LSU at some point as well. OU could certainly make an impression on Martin, though it is worth noting he does have an LSU offer which always makes landing a Louisiana kid very difficult. Though in this case, Martin seems very high on TCU which would at least suggest he is open to leaving the state.

Taylor figures to be a much tougher fish to catch. He is originally from Alabama but lives in New Orleans and grew up a Crimson Tide fan, in addition to already holding offers from both. Taylor also visited Texas this past summer, and tells us the Horns are also high on his list because of his relationship with Texas defensive line coach Brick Haley. Again, we should know more after the visit.

Another Visitor: We are expecting another highly recruited visitor this weekend, but so far we haven’t been given the go ahead to put out the name. If he does indeed make the trip, then we hope to be able to give you all the name later today (or tomorrow at the latest).

And of course you can see the full list of visitors HERE.

– UPDATE (Fri., 2:36 pm): Another big name added to this weekend’s visitor list.

– UPDATE (Fri., 6:12 pm): Updated visitor list HERE.

UPDATE (Saturday, 8:21 am): We noted yesterday that there would be an additional highly recruited visitor this weekend. The visitor is 2017 LB and Oklahoma State commit, Levi Draper (Collinsville, OK). Draper is still committed to Oklahoma State but the Oklahoma staff has been in regular communication with Draper and it has apparently made a difference. We will have more on Draper after the visit. – (Brandon)

– UPDATE (Sat., 8:04 pm): #Boom.

So many articles in so little time. Maybe space them out a bit more throughout the day? Just a thought…

  • Jason Vos says:

With all these visitors, we better play well tomorrow

  • Jason Vos says:

So can anyone explain to me why we seem to defend the spread better back in the day. For example this 2008 game. I see the same spread formations and principles, and we held one of the top offenses in the nation that year to very low points.

    So whats different?

    • Sooner_Ace says:

i “think” the offenses have progressed faster than the defenses…just a thought.

      • Bob Edwards says:

There has always been an “arms race” going on in college football. The OC’s will come up with something new, the DC’s will struggle for a time and then catch up. We are in the OC’s ascendent phase right now.

    • rainydaze114 says:

There were, now current, NFL players all over that defense. Different coordinator too.

    • rainydaze114 says:

That defense didn’t put up the best numbers either. The offense just obliterated everyone they saw though.

    • Mysterio1 says:

Ive thought of this too, Leech had some very effective offenses while in Lubbock. BV was mainly the DC while Leech was there, but we always seemed to have the right answer for stopping them.

      • D Hunter Sanchez says:

        Talent?

        • Clint says:

This is the correct answer. Sure, OU had its faults in 2013, but with a more capable secondary, OU was #1 in total defense in the Big 12 and that was despite losing Jordan Phillips and Corey Nelson for the season. OU’s defensive backfield pretty much consists of a good and going to be very good Steven Parker and then Zach Sanchez that is good, but has some glaring weaknesses and then after that, the drop is extremely significant.

Also, OU’s inside linebackers are nothing special. They don’t create havoc in the backfield even if they were allowed to, and they are poor at forcing turnovers and are typically giving up 2 to 3 yards when making a tackle instead of rocking an RB and stopping them cold.

I think OU’s most recent class will address a lot of these issues, but unfortunately, not for this season.

          • Matt says:

the 2013 defense was very good but that was also a very down year for offenses in the big 12. West Virginia and TCU were both terrible. Baylor was the only elite offense and they put up over 40 on that defense.

          • Clint says:

OU’s offense has been a far bigger problem than the defense the past two seasons against Baylor. 14 points won’t beat Baylor even if they have a bad day with 5 turnovers. And I would certainly take the 2013 defense over the 2014 defense in a heart-beat regardless of the status of the Big 12 offenses in 2013.; For OU to finish #1 was still quite the accomplishment given the loss of Phillips and Nelson, OU’s best at their respective positions.

          • Matt says:

No I agree the 2013 defense was very good and I agree that the defense wasn’t the problem the past couple years. I was more getting at the idea that the defense wasn’t in the same league as Venable’s Defenses.

          • soonermusic says:

“Also, OU’s inside linebackers are nothing special.” It is interesting to me that so many online evaluators/commenters are sticking to this position, while the coaches are claiming we have a great unit, as good a linebacking group as any in the country.

          • Matt says:

also former players are talking about how good the backers are

          • Boom says:

They (LBs) get pushed back and they can’t stop anyone in the hole. This kills me. Very few times you will see a LB drop a RB in his tracks. RB’s have the leverage, size and speed. I don’t know who these posters are referencing but hitting a RB and drilling him backwards is not the norm.

          • Stephen Dale says:

for sure………………OU LBers rarely tackle anybody who doesn’t ‘ fall foward’ another 2-4 yds ..

          • Hartshorne Miner says:

You gotta have brass stones to meet Perine in the hole and you probably wouldn’t be quick to repeat the experience.

        • Clint Lenard says:

Talent is higher over the past few seasons. That’s not the reason. It’s the brain behind the show.

    • Jason Vos says:

It would seem Brent Venables was better at defending spread teams. Granted we were still getting gashed but at least the defense had a pulse when we faced teams that spread us out.

Now its like we have no clue what to do.

    • D Hunter Sanchez says:

THIS. It pisses me off that Baylor is averaging 40 points against us.

    • Matt says:

First: that defense finished outside the top 50 in total defense. That was the beginning of the decline. They gave up over 40 to OSU that year don’t forget. I think the biggest reason they shut Tech down so bad was the crowd noise was great that game and according to Jeff Lebby, crowd noise is the biggest enemy of those offenses. Second: Tech didn’t run at the same pace which hurts the defense more than just spreading them out does. Third: Tech didn’t have near the athletes that Baylor has AND they didn’t gash you with physical running between the tackles if you spread out to cover their receivers. Baylor puts multiple WR’s outside the numbers who run 4.3 along with guys who run 4.5 or better in the slot and send them all on go routes all game and then have a very physical inside running game and they run RPO’s all game. These offenses are not the same that Venables faced. Not to mention the fact that the next year. when he had a better defense, Tech put up over 40 on them.

      • Oscar says:

I really doubt that crowd noise is the number one reason that a defense has an outstanding outing. Sure if factors, but #1? no.

        • Matt says:

okay. I’m just saying, Baylor’s passing game coordinator, a former OU player, told Teddy Lehman that was the number 1 factor. Think about Baylor last year..They lost to West Virginia on the road. The same team that put up 61 on the big 12’s best defense the week before.

      • Eric Hoffpauir says:

We were a top 5 defense that year in advanced stats (adjusting for opponent, and filtering out garbage time).

    • Zack says:

Back then we believed in taking away the run and forcing teams to beat you throwing the ball into coverage. I’m not sure what he changed in the coverage philosophy or if it’s just offenses finding the holes in coverage. We used to give up points in the first half against spread teams but would come out after halftime and completely shut teams down. I think it was the 2009 bedlam game where we gave up 9 yards after halftime although zach Robinson was banged up but still.
I think the problem is we can’t defend the middle of the field with our LB anymore

      • D Hunter Sanchez says:

That issue raised it’s ugly head in 2008 Red River game when Reynolds went out…coverage behind the LB and in front of the safety. But now, it seems our corners and safeties can’t stay with a wr enough to contest or make plays on the ball…this is NOT SCHEME but TALENT imho.

        • Stephen Dale says:

          I agree with you.

        • Matt says:

In my opinion, its these offenses. The spread teams in 08 didn’t have 4 and 5 WR running 4.5 and under. The 08 defense had two safeties that ran 4.8 40s. 1 corner that ran a high 4.6 and another than ran a high 4.5. the 08 and really even the 07 secondaries were slow

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

The speed theory is unfounded. Detron Lewis TAco tech 08′ 4.53…Eric Morris 4.45…Others…

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

If you recall we were fairly inconsistent defending Taco tech. 07 they beat us when Bradford got injured, but they were going up and down the field. 08′ we kicked their butt…

  • Lincoln Hawk says:

Does Casey Thompson have an OU offer? If not, he probably should. He is tearing everybody up as a Sophomore.

    • Keithen says:

He does not. I think he will soon though. I agree. I watched his game last night and he is the real deal. And he still has two years!! That southmoore team is loaded with talent!

    • Stephen Dale says:

does Casey have a better arm and is he more accurate than Kendall ? has anybody wondered how KT would have thrived in this offense ?

      • Keithen says:

He is definitely more accurate and that is not a knock in Kendal. Coming into this week he was completing around 80% of his passes on the year. He has all the tools except for size and he has plenty of time to grow. I don think size matters as much in college as people make it seem. As for Kendal, I wish he would’ve gotten more of a chance and still hope he does well at Utah.

  • Jason Vos says:

That Stephon Taylor guy has a ton of offers. That would be a huge get. I like that we are recruiting Louisiana hard nowadays

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

crootin’ is hopefully about to start picking up steam

    • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Don’t like the makeover narrative as much as “back to the future” because OU brought the air-raid and hurry up to the conference.

      • Matt says:

yeah! as far as the HUNH it wasn’t just the big 12, the 08 team brought that to major college football! OU was the first team in a major conference to run that. At least as far as I remember.

      • SoonerfanTU says:

I didn’t read the article, but we also made changes on the defensive staff as well with Cooks and Reynolds.

      • Eric Hoffpauir says:

As the article points out, the “Air Raid” we’re running is different than what Mike Leach installed at OU and TTU.

      • rainydaze114 says:

Why don’t you guys space out your articles a little more? It would help maintain site traffic throughout the day instead of being top heavy with almost no activity in the afternoon. Just a thought.

        • rphokc says:

          geez

        • Boom says:

Rainydaze, this is a FREE site and these guys have OTHER jobs. We are lucky as HELL to get anything. And you are bitching over how quick they are coming out is just asinine.

          • rainydaze114 says:

You obviously don’t know me or my history of posting throughout the years on various sites, which is fine. Your little holier than thou thing is what is asinine. I’m not bitching and what I’m suggesting wouldn’t take these guys any more time or more work and would help with site activity. It’s a win/win for everyone.

          • Jordan Esco says:

No issue here, fwiw. Good and intelligent suggestion. And at times I try to do exactly what you’ve suggested.

Sometimes b/c the information is time sensitive in regards to the possibility of others also having said info dictates we can’t hold stuff, or at least that’s how we feel about it. And when it comes to recruiting, visitors, etc. – as is often reported/discussed here – that can be the case a lot of the time.

I wish we had the ability to schedule posts to go up at future times, but we’re somewhat limited w/ respect to this WP platform.

          • rainydaze114 says:

Gotcha. Didn’t want you guys to think I was being a jerk or anything. You guys do great work here and I’m on this site more than any other. I was just suggesting based on previous experiences with other somewhat similar sites. I just want to be able to talk football all day with other like-minded folks and, this may just be me, it seems like things around here die down significantly after lunch. My thought was maybe scattering some of the non-breaking news stuff throughout the day might help keep people talking. I get your whole breaking news argument, and that’s the nature of the beast I suppose. However, it does seem like what you guys are doing is working, and you guys know how you want to run the site. I’ll continue to frequent this page no matter what.

          • Jordan Esco says:

Didn’t take it that way at all. We good 🙂

          • metzker says:

            Keep rocking Jordan

          • Zack says:

It’s not a bad suggestion, it seems for the most part they do spread out their posts, it’s just Friday there are usually more posts and they have to/want to get the open post up before the pay sites put up their stuff for example SS with their scoop each Friday. Since tfb gets accused of stealing info from pay sites, it helps to post their info first so no one accuses them of stealing info.

          • rainydaze114 says:

I know, and I get the whole part of being the first to report something. That’s not what I’m referencing though. I’m talking about the articles like the “Trench Warfare” stuff, and the predictions threads, etc…

          • Zack says:

And I agree with what you said below. I want to come here often throughout the day and talk football. It does slow down in the afternoon but I think that’s just a slow time for chatter anyways. Even when they post stuff later around say 2pm, it’s kinda slow on the comment section.

          • MoJoOkie says:

Open them slower … problem solved.

          • Boom says:

Rainydaze, I don’t have an issue with anyone on here. I should have stepped away instead of jumping on this which is not normal for me. However, I’ve had to read the lame stuff from the local guys. This site is providing me with the information I have been craving. That said, your post it hit me wrong. I get the coverage at different times but news is real time anymore so I really appreciate TFB and their diligence. Sorry, didn’t mean to start a fire storm as we are all on the same team.

          • rainydaze114 says:

All good, man. I wasn’t trying to start anything either. I can see how my OP could have been misconstrued as complaining. Ask some of the other guys here (soonerfandave84, thebigdroot, wooferman) and they’ll tell you I can be very dry and overtly sarcastic at times. Sometimes that comes off wrong, but my intentions are always good.

          • Eric Hoffpauir says:

Most websites allow you to schedule future posts, so it’s really not a bad suggestion.

          • Jordan Esco says:

            This one doesn’t, unfortunately.

          • Eric Hoffpauir says:

Cue the Geico insurance commercial: When you’re OU, you win championships. It’s what you do.”

  • EasTex says:

After looking at much of the game with Maryland, I then looked at the passing number.

The UM QBs were 14 of 36 for 153yds 1TD and 5INTs. It wasn’t all on the QBs, though, their receivers were the worst I’ve seen since the UConn team in the Fiesta.
I’ll give wvu credit for a talented and veteran defense, I just don’t think they will produce the same results with OU’s more talented receivers, QB, RBs and OL.

  • EasTex says:

Watching CFB Daily, they all pick OU over wvu and the espn FPI has OU at 69% to 31% over wvu.

    • metzker says:

Easy as state fair corn dogs

      • EasTex says:

        Going in or out? 🙂
Actually, I think wvu will come out fired up and will make some plays on both sides. As long as OU plays error free, makes good adjustments and makes plays in all 3 phases they will over match wvu with their talent and depth.
I think it could be like last year, wvu fought hard in the first half scoring 24 pts., then they only scored one FG until a few minutes left in the game.

        • metzker says:

I can see that but i see us getting on them midway 2nd and not looking back unlike last year wait tell 2nd half. Ofcourse no turn overs etc.We have really only stopped ourselves on offense and hope we have made progress 45 27 BOOM

          • EasTex says:

They had their adoring fans ready to torch the furniture for them last year, I will be interested to see how they respond to a loud stadium for their first road game.

          Tempo

    • Matt says:

I do believe the good guys will win but I wouldn’t put too much stock in anything ESPN says. You have to remember that OU’s win over a SEC team is probably way too respected in the FPI.

    • Dustin says:

LOL @ FPI. Silly espn and their made up numbers. Here’s the truth: OU has a 50% chance of winning tomorrow.

    • PCSooner says:

If WV plays a 3-3-5 – run it down their throats over and over again. Gotta like our RB’s chances against 6 guys up front. Mixon/Perine/Mixon/Perine – those defenders will get worn out and have nightmares. And then when the safeties get caught creeping up to help out – Mayfield makes them pay.

Moore is an important get. Need to have OT’s each year so we don’t see it go from Sr. to Fr. unless said freshman is Trent Williams or Jamaal Brown good

  • Dustin says:

    Official or unofficial for Moore?

    • Jordan Esco says:

I’d expect unofficial, but being an OK Preps kid I’m also not sure why it would really matter.

      • Dustin says:

I’d tend to agree, for the most part. Are there not certain things that recruits can only experience on an OV as opposed to an unofficial? I vaguely recall it being mentioned on here once or thrice.

  • Jason Vos says:

We need to recruit more play makers at WR

    • thill says:

Yea! And more All-Americans at QB, RB, OL, DL, LB, DB, ST. Then we’d be awesome! Why don’t we do this? You should tell the coaches.

  • Glocal Sooner says:

I’m ready for our home field domination to be a thing again. We’ve lost that in recent years. Let’s start it back up!!!

  • Sooner4life says:

Obviously Big 12 has just begun so we really don’t know how some of teams will pan out but I think its funny how last year we had the perfect schedule (Kstate,Baylor,OSU) at home and all we heard about this year was how tough the schedule was suppose to be with our hardest games on the road. Now you look at it and we have WV, Tech, and TCU in Norman which seem to be really solid teams and could be near the top by the end of the year. I don’t think that will be the case but I do believe Big 12 is a lot more respectable top to bottom then most thought.

  • SoonerfanTU says:

Mayfield might have a big day running the ball tomorrow. I can see WVU giving us a lot of “run stop” looks presnap, then backing into coverage right before the snap. Should open up some lanes for Mayfield to take off.

    • EasTex says:

As long as he doesn’t take too many hits. Running QBs always get hurt.

      • SoonerfanTU says:

I think he has a better chance to stay safe if they aren’t designed runs. He should have some large holes, then he just needs to play it safe and not take a bunch of hits, I agree.

    • Stephen Dale says:

  • D Hunter Sanchez says:

I think we’ll win Saturday. But if we don’t I think TFB board is going to blow up get rid of MS

    • Sooner Ray says:

As much as some would like to believe…..we just don’t have that kind of stroke. ?

    • RBear says:

IDK, I think that’s quite a knee-jerk reaction- you’d have to fire every DC in the country that loses to this style of Offense then. Until some innovative Defensive genius comes along and revolutionizes the way D’s play vs. the “air-raids” of the world, we’re just going to have to learn to take our lumps.

      • RocketCitySooner says:

The only thing that will stop these kinds of offenses will be changes in the rules.

        • RBear says:

          Probably so.

        • EasTex says:

Yep. Heard Bob say that very thing on his Tuesday evening show.

        • Mustvid says:

And how does that work? Personally, I hate the Air Raid offenses but how do you begin to legislate rule changes? When Saban called for this everyone called him out for it. It has made college football more competitive because you don’t have to have the best talent. I think it’s an interesting conversation for sure.

          • EasTex says:

There has been an ebb and flow over the decades in football rules. There was a time the forward pass was illegal. When I last played football the OL couldn’t use their hands while blocking.
I wish they would pass a rule where the OLmen couldn’t go beyond a yard from the LOS on pass plays. That alone would give DBs a better read at the snap what was coming.

          • Mustvid says:

That makes sense. Maybe limit the number of eligible players too.

          • soonermusic says:

“There was a time the forward pass was illegal.” I believe in Bud Wilkinson’s day it was still illegal to even put air in the ball. 🙂

“I wish they would pass a rule where the OLmen couldn’t go beyond a yard from the LOS on pass plays.” Even if they would just enforce the current rule, it would make a noticeable difference.

          • EasTex says:

One of the keys for DBs is to check if the OL is firing off the ball or not, which lets them know if it is a pass or run. They go with the one yard rule in the nfl, I wish they would in college. It was brought up again this year and tabled.

          • RocketCitySooner says:

Rules are often changed in all sports to create or maintain a balance between offense and defense. For example, major league baseball has raised or lowed the pitcher’s mound. The NFL changed the rules on pass interference to favor the offense and create more offense.

Rule changes are the only way to slow down the air raid. I’m not enough of an expert to say what rules changes would be necessary. Nor, is it clear that college football wants to change.

    • rainydaze114 says:

I fully expect WV to move the ball and score points. I just hope the O can keep our D off the field and score more than they do.

    • Mustvid says:

Probably. I’ve been one of them. However, I’ve accepted that we still don’t have the talent yet to be dominate and even itvwe become dominate, teams are still going to move the ball. I now judge how good a defense is by their ability to force field goals instead of td and getting turnovers. Those are the two things that really matter and influence the outcome. How do we perform in the redzone and can we prevent or reduce explosive plays. I wanna see an assignment sound performance. That’s all I can ask for as a fan and that goes along way to helping the first two things I mentioned. Just my opinion and expectation.

Don’t know if this is allowed – Mods, please remove if I am in violation & accept my apologies. This is non-football related, but it is also non-political.

Many of you may have heard about the many shootings in St. Louis lately (more than usual lately). Last week a young EAS’d Army vet caught a Cards game at Busch Stadium with family. On the way to the car with his girlfriend, the couple was robbed – and the young man was shot in the back after they had given the robber what he demanded. I believe it was C12 (?) severance of his spine. His mama started a Go Fund Me page. This young fella is my neighbor’s cousin’s stepson – yes, really. If any of you are so inclined to share the page, to donate or whatever, I’m sure any help would be appreciated. Those of you who are Vets especially invited to share on whatever vet-related sites you trust & frequent. God bless the family.

  • Stephen says:

Update: I’m at the Pump OKC and they’re out of Ogle-toberfest but it’s beautiful weather for drinking non-seasonal beer.

  • Mustvid says:

I’m excited for this game. I think we will win a close game. I do think WVU is a tad overrated defensively. It will be interesting.

  • Peabody Thekat says:

I am through with slow starts…Git er Done.

  • EasTex says:

Never heard of this Dobbins kid, so went to rivals and there he is at #4. His video looks pretty good, but I know of a kid that looks as good if not better that isn’t being recruited and has no video highlight.
What really caught my attention is Cedar Hill High has two 4* soph RBs at #5 and #8.

  • EasTex says:

Watching the Memphis game. The voice and football analysis by one sMack Brown is irritating.
I give thanks for the mute button.

  • rphokc says:

damn, the bands of the hurricane may flood out 2 big cfb games tomorrow, ga/bama, nd/clemson

  • BleedCrimson says:

Nice onside kick by Memphis to start second half. Good call Coach!

    • EasTex says:

Turned it off. Listening to my old high school’s game on the interwebs.

      • BleedCrimson says:

Always cool to be able to listen to your home town play ball. Even better when they win.

        • EasTex says:

They are unbeaten, averaging 57-17 in their 4 wins. Playing the weakest team in the district and playing poorly, 3 turnovers in a quarter and a half and are tied 14-14. Sloppy game, one kid ejected for retaliating.
I go to a website called “teamline,” type in my schools name(Marshall Mavericks), click listen now button and voila.

  • thebigdroot says:

Louisville went all Colorado. Going to be all kinds of trouble there.

  • EasTex says:

Well, my boys hung on for a 35-28 win to go 5-0. I think they were guilty of the old “looking ahead” syndrome. They get their biggest rival next week, ranked as the #1 rivalry in Texas High School football by Dave Campbell’s magazine a few years ago.
Now I can focus on Saturday morning. Up early to do my shopping and get ready for Sooner football…after breakfast.

  • ToatsMcGoats says:

I had a nice Saturday all planned out. Watch the game, take the wife shopping and then take care of some honey-do’s. Then my nephew calls at about 7:30 last night and asks if I want a free ticket and ride to the game. Yes, yes I do. Looks like I’ll be cheering my Sooners on in real time!

  • Stephen Dale says:

its game day !!!! good luck Sooners. Kick the Mountaineers !!

  • Brad Warren says:

    Boomer!

  • Austin says:

It’s Gameday baby! Getting ready to head to the stadium in just a minute! #Beatwvu

    • 47 Straight OU Know says:

      Be loud!!!

      • Austin says:

Hey, I didn’t come all the way from South Carolina to sit on my hands. You know I’m gonna be loud. That goes for everyone at the game today.. Be as loud as possible!!

        • 47 Straight OU Know says:

Yes please everybody make it show up on the Richter scale in Norman today!!!

  • 47 Straight OU Know says:

“It’s a great game day to be a SOONER”

  • Austin says:

Anybody know what time the walk of champions starts today? I’m assuming around 9:30 or 10.

  • thebigdroot says:

Wow!! Louisville paid women to have sex with recruits. Seems isolated to BB, but still.

  • metzker says:

Im thinking rack of ribs pound sliced beef and budlight maybe a bloody mary to start
    o and BOOMERRRRRRRRRRR

  • Lincoln Hawk says:

Happy to see our coaches not give up on Draper and vice versa. BOOMER!

  • AlvinMack55 says:

I’m optimistic that OU’s coaching staff can make up for their initial mishandling of Draper’s recruitment. And, it looks like Levi is more than happy to listen to OU

    • Zack says:

Mishandling? If ou does end up flipping him within the next 500 days, then clearly they handled his recruitment the right way.
I just wonder if people think it would have been unbecoming to throw an offer at the kid just because his recruiting was blowing up? As opposed to waiting and building a relationship first.

      • Daddy R says:

Thats a good point. Kind of like telling a date you love her after the first few hours (/drinks, HA!). Want to play a little “hard to get,” take it slow. Make them wonder if WE really WANT them. Then, BOOOM!

      • AlvinMack55 says:

A recruit who is getting offers from elite programs and still didn’t have an offer from his in-state school, OU, shouldn’t happen. Coaches should have their state’s prospects pretty well scouted and be ahead of the curve. I think he ends up at OU in the end so it really doesn’t matter. Let’s just BEAT WVU today! BOOMER!!!!!!

    • Jake says:

Levi is a lifelong fan of the Sooners. This OSWho commitment was all about getting OUr attention- job well done :D.

  • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

Hey, Levi. How many Butkus winners does OSUcks have? Hint: It’s the same number as their national championship total.

Flip to Norman and become a legend.

  • JJSoona says:

Question here. Is Frank Shannon starting today?

  • Daddy R says:

Ladies and Gentlemen, its FOOOTBALL TIME IN OOOOOOKKKLAHOMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    https://youtu.be/xzpMs7WWcT0

  • SamSooner says:

Folks, OU is getting exactly what they need: the media is giving lot’s of national attention/love to their opponents. At some point, following the carnage of the season, and OU is has a 0 (zero) in the “L”column, they’ll have to give OU some credit.

I know we all want a win. Don’t sweat it. OU will either win or lose. I don’t think they’ll lose. I’m not worried at all.

  • Austin says:

Section 19 row 18 baby! Great seats!! Ready to watch Ou send the mountaineers back to west va in tears.

  • SamSooner says:

My girls are at swim practice. I’m back home. I hope my wife will finish her errands in time to get the girls at noon today. If not, I might just get a ticket.

  • EasTex says:

Just saw Perine listening to his tunes while warming up, so I hacked his playlist and this is what I found.
    https://youtu.be/gpyRI1j9t6c

  • JJSoona says:

Wishing for a Sooner win and a TCU beatdown of Texa$$.

  • Austin says:

As west va ran out onto the field one of their receivers mouthed off at Sanchez and they got into a little verbal altercation, and pointing across the field at each other! I love it, have some swagger and go out there and shut him down Zach!

    • SamSooner says:

That’s funny. I guess the WVU receiver is trying to find his zone. A team that has little to say has less to prove. I don’t think I’ve ever seen an OU team start an altercation with an opposing team.

      • Austin says:

Definitely. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that either. All I want is a win today, but I would love to stomp a mud hole in them!

      • SoonerfanTU says:

May not have been an “altercation”, but Marshall sure started the mouthing in the Orange Bowl.

There is a time and a place. I don’t mind a little of it going on at times. Hopefully Sanchez feels challenged and will be a little more locked in today.

  • Ryan says:

Ah, it’s only Draper. I was getting excited. Bummer.

  • SoonerfanTU says:

Thought there was going to be a Stoops mic’d up segment on GameDay? Did I miss it?

  • SamSooner says:

Watching Striker on the field and he seems excited. I think we’re going to see an aggressive defensive attack today. He’s pumped.

  • Travis Coyle says:

Kendall Thompson is here with his bro. Mayfield come over to show some love.

  • paganpink says:

That was a better discussion of the AP polls on FS1 then anything you’ll get on ESPN in my opinion! At least these guys are open minded. Their technical and production skills during the game can use some work but they don’t have the kind of money that eSECpn does.

  • Brien Brown says:

    Any BOOMS yet!!!

  • Hotrod33 says:

I would love to see a BOOM tonight or tomorrow to make this weekend great.

  • BleedCrimson says:

Wow, K-State / Okie Lite is having a good one to watch

  • Jesse says:

    BOOM!!!! OUDNA BABY

  • Dlee914 says:

    Jordan J-Jona Parker‏@_2FOE
Committed … #BoomerSooner thank you to all the coaches that recruited me, I’m blessed

  • Tom Turman says:

Jordan Parker committed after the game. BOOM. Give that man a Denzel.

  • Jordan Esco says:

    update added

  • Doobie74OU says:

Wow great game great commit and great news on Draper!

    • Hotrod33 says:

What about Draper? B/C he visited or is there something else going on?

      • Doobie74OU says:

Just that they got him to a game and it was a game our LBS mostly played well Striker creating havoc evans scoring on a fumble returned Bond made a couple plays. Parker committed had to be a good time to get him to visit!

Cracked the Top 10 in both polls. We’re in a great spot at this point in the season.
