Ceedee Lamb: Let’s start with most important news of the day and that is the pending commitment announcement coming from former 2017 OU wide receiver commit Cedarian Lamb. The Foster HS (Richmond, TX) standout is expected to make his announcement around 6:30pm CT.

Having spoken to numerous sources around Lamb, not to mention Lamb himself, TFB feels good about where the Sooners stand heading into this evening.

Lamb has been adamant about his decision coming down to OU and Texas A&M. Speaking to a couple of people around the Aggies, their confidence in landing Lamb is definitely waning. Lamb has also maintained that even after his decision to decommit, his relationship with OU outside wide receivers coach Dennis Simmons has remained strong.

Lastly, Lamb has an outstanding relationship most, if not all, of the current #SoonerSquad17. Speaking with a couple OU commits about Lamb, TFB was told that he (Lamb) never left their group chats, whether it be on Twitter DM or text messages.

Will that ultimately mean anything? Looks like we’ll find out later tonight. – (Brandon)

Kobe Boyce: The Sooners are in search of at least one other defensive back in this 2017 class following Trajan Bandy’s decommitment. And while we know Jeffrey Okudah remains at the top of OU’s wish list, 2017 Lake Dallas DB & Texas commit Kobe Boyce has also become a top priority for this OU staff.

And despite the aforementioned commitment to Texas, Boyce is expected to be in Norman this weekend for the Sooners’ big recruiting BBQ. Interestingly enough, Boyce has also shared with TFB the BBQ may not be his only trip to Norman as he is also working to arrange an official visit later down the road as well.

But back to the BBQ, Boyce told TFB he will probably head up to Norman with OU commits Robert Barnes, Jalen Reagor & Charleston Rambo. Boyce is close with Barnes and Rambo, both of whom he says have been working to flip the talented CB to the right side of the Red River.

Boyce has been recruited by OU for a while, but it’s pretty clear the coaches have turned up the heat as of late. In fact, according to Boyce none other than Bob Stoops himself has taken a bigger role in his recruitment.

“Bob Stoops is cool. He asks about how I’ve been and just makes sure everything is straight. He has also been making sure I’m going to be at the BBQ, even though he knows I’ll be there. I also talk with Coach Cooks quite a bit,” Boyce said.

Boyce’s recruitment is one both OU and Texas fans should be follow closely as it things look to be somewhat fluid at this point. – (Brandon)

Anthony Hines: Last week I (Brandon) hinted at a ‘huge’ visitor possibly being added to the list for the recruiting BBQ on July 29th. And 2017 LB Anthony Hines was that recruit. However, we have since learned that Hines has yet to officially decide whether or not he’ll be in Norman for the BBQ. Although we have learned Hines is expected to make that decision around the middle of this week.

And while the plans for this weekend are still up in the air, the importance placed on a potential visit is still key. Primarily because according to some of the people we’ve spoken with, Hines has a tentative plan to announce a commitment prior to his senior season. Now that could certainly change, but the fact a decision timeline is at least somewhat starting to come into the picture with Hines could indicate he is beginning to narrow things down.

OU should feel good about where they stand with Hines and those around the program feel exactly that way. Hines is suppose to be an early enrollee, so even if he doesn’t decide prior to his season a decision would likely come shortly thereafter. – (Brandon)

Addison Gumbs: 2017 OLB/DE Addison Gumbs (Heyward, CA) was expected to announce his commitment earlier this summer, but has since pushed back his announcement multiple times. Last TFB spoke with Gumbs, he didn’t have any specific timeline for a commitment and simply said he will announce when he’s ready.

I (K) have long felt OU was in the drivers seat here and have yet to really hear anything to the contrary. But I can’t help to think there might be a school closer to home that is causing Gumbs to possibly second guess things. In speaking with someone close to Gumbs, I was told that if there is a school contending for his commitment it would be UCLA.

If the Sooners were to miss on Gumbs, I’d really like to see them go after Jalen Harris (VIDEO) from Arizona. I believe strongly that Harris is going to be special at the next level. – (Super K)

K’Lavon Chaisson: We don’t want to cause a frenzy here so please be sure to read our words carefully.

There are some folks around the OU program that believe 2017 DE K’Lavon Chaisson may be close to pulling the trigger. And that perhaps it could happen as early as this weekend (July 29th), although at this point he is NOT expected to be in Norman for the BBQ (it’s possible, however, that could change later in the week).

Again, we are NOT reporting a commitment is a certainty. Simply noting that there is a feeling around the program it could possibly happen. One source told TFB, “K’Lavon is really close (to committing).”

We also spoke with one of Chaisson’s high school coaches, who could not speak to when a commitment will happen. But also would not rule out the possibility of a decision coming before the end of the summer. Just something to be on the lookout for. – (Super K)

Patrick Fields: In early June, Oklahoma held their annual elite camp.  And during that camp one name kept being brought up as a player that solidified himself as one of the best in prospects in the 2018 OK Preps class. That player was Tulsa Union defensive back, Patrick Fields.

Fields possesses the size of a safety with the footwork of a corner back. Watching Fields at the OU camp was just so impressive in how he dominated all the receivers, no matter their size and/or speed. Fields is a constant worker at his craft, training 3-4 times a week on his footwork. This camp season it has shown just how much that hard work has paid off, too.

Fields went to TCU camp last week and impressed yet again. So much so the Horned Frog staff invited Fields back for an unofficial visit the following weekend, at which point they extended Fiedls an offer.

TFB had a chance to catch up with Fields, who is planning to be at the BBQ, following that TCU offer to get a sense of where things currently stand. Among other things, Feidls said he spoke with OU assistant Chip Viney just last week. “Everytime we talk it’s for at least an hour,” Fields said of his relationship with Viney.

After which the conversation turned to his thoughts on the Sooners in general. “I’m definitely interested in OU. The whole SoonerSquad17 deal just brings a lot of swagger to their recruiting. And I don’t mean to get ahead of myself, but I’d be kind of frustrated if OU slow plays me,” Fields explained.

Oklahoma is the program Fields seems to have the most interest in among those who have yet to offer. Although Ok State, Texas and Arkansas are also contenders as well. p a fan of those schools. – (Brandon)

I thought Okudah was riding with Barnes and Reagor…Is that still happening?

  • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

I’ll take 1 CD today pls! K’Lavon, we know you want to join SS17 so hop on board my dude! Hines is ours as well. I have zero doubt about him. IF and that’s a big IF, his family joins him this weekend then I think that will be the icing on the cake. Gotta have moms approval ?

  • ohiosoonerdevildog says:

So what I got out of this is we’re gettin Lamb tonight. Gumbs and Hines are ours to lose. Chaisonn will be committing to us soon. And it’s only a matter of time before Boyce flip to the good guys. Now that’s a fricken OP!

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

Awesome Monday OP. Thank you Brandon and Super K

  • BigJoeBrown says:

Looks to be one heck of a BBQ…..there is so much talent out there. It’s just exciting to see OU having a strong voice/presence out there.

  • PLAW0720 says:

There’s a lot of red meat in today’s OP – well done, boys! Must be a Bar-B-Q fixin’ to take place – fire up the smokers!

  • Tipman says:

Do we take Gumbs if we have Chaisson and Thomas on-board?

    • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

      Doubt it.

      • Fear The Magic says:

Sorry Vegas I have to disagree. Gumbs is a major talent. I’m pretty sure we’d still take him.

        • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Maybe I should correct it and say I doubt he would commit. I’m sure we would take him but if the other two commit before he did then I doubt he would come.

      • Scott says:

I think we do. Chaisson is a pure pass rusher type of DE , Thomas is a hybrid who can stand or have is hand in the dirt.

  • ohiosoonerdevildog says:

The only thing that slightly worries me is the lack of dts. I know we have shots with Rogers and Wilson. But are there any fall back plans? And how many could/should we take this year? I know obviously there will be some late bloomers, but with us not taking a dt last year it does have me slightly worried.

    • Bob Edwards says:

We currently have six scholarship DT’s + Walker whose listed as a DL but is big enough to play DT. That’s plenty if we are running a 3-4 that only has one DT. Of those seven there are 2 Fr, 2So, 2Jr, and 1 Sr. So one to replace the Sr and another if Walker has a good enough year to leave early should be enough. Six is actually an over stock for a single position, but there is some overlap and times where we need an extra DT.

      • ohiosoonerdevildog says:

Solid points. Thanks for the slap back down to reality.

      • Scott says:

Fred Hansield , Elijah Conliffe, Greg Rodgers , Marvin Wilson and DJ Johnson are the targets for the DLine. We need to get Hansield and Johnson to visit the for the Ohio st game , Johnson seems to be leaning towards Miami but i have trust in Mike Stoops to land him.

    • Doobie74OU says:

We seem to be in really good shape for Deionte Watts (6’3″ 302lb DT which TFB has talked about several times. Also we are still in on Elijah Conliffe (6’4″ 284lb who could easily add 20 lbs under Smitty and be a DT) so I don’t think all our eggs are in the Wilson/Rogers basket!

      • ohiosoonerdevildog says:

Totally forgot about Watts and Conliffe. And I didn’t mean to infer we were just throwing our eggs in that basket. Just seems those are the ones we only hear about. But definitely thanks for the refresher.

      • Brian says:

Not every HS DT is a DT/NT at OU…some will be DEs. Conliffe would be a 300lb DE in our scheme. I know it’s confusing…

        • Scott says:

300lb DE is music to my ears. Having Fred Hansield and Marvin Wilson inside and Elijah Conliffe and Greg Rodgers as OUr DE’s.

      • Brian says:

Watts is the backup plan to Wilson at NT – Rogers is a 4i DE for us IMO

  • thebigdroot says:

Don’t forget that a 2 hour special will air this week about the history of OU football. Starts today at 1:00pm on FOXSW and starts with 1885-1920 for the first hour and then 1920-1946 for the second. All week starting at 1:00.

    • Jofield says:

Also, the entire history OSWho football will air during a 30-second commerial break at 1:17pm. Don’t blink.

Im glad CD is a Lamb. If he were a sheep I’d expect an OSU flip tonight.

  • ZW_in_Austin says:

Is Bandy still a part of the SS17 group chats?

  • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Totally off the beat and path, but who here is into conspiracy theories? I had a client of mine email me a video about a “flat earth” and holy crap, this is actually really interesting and something I never would have thought about. Anyways, carry on with your days fellas!

    • Bob Edwards says:

Yeah, people like that always sound reasonable until someone who knows what they are talking about gets involved. I’ve written software at different times for both mapping and radar applications. Both require mathematics that account for the curvature of the earth otherwise they don’t give proper results. So those two industries would have to be in on the ‘flat earth’ conspiracy. Conspiracies work best with three people and two of them are dead.

      • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

I understand what you’re saying, Bob. Mathematics can almost answer all questions. But a conspiracy of this magnitude I’m almost certain that radar and mapping companies would be under wraps. I just think the answer of ‘gravity’ to almost everything they test is a bit funny. I like conspiracy theories but this one just had be puzzled for a second. Lol. I certainly don’t believe we landed on the moon in 69 but this idea of a flat earth is a bit too ‘out there’ for me lol.

        • Jed says:

Here’s one thing to keep in mind. Our governments, businesses, and other organizations seem incapable of keeping secrets in any other area. So we are to believe that there’s some cabal that is uniquely able to perpetuate a fraud for 500+ years with hermetic perfection?
I like your faith in human perfectability. (Extreme Sarcasm Alert).

Outside of the novels of Robert Ludlum, such perfect conspiracies do not exist.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

I never said I believe the earth is flat, just said I was sent a link and watched it. Now I did say I don’t believe we landed on the moon in 69 and I believe without a doubt their is eno proof that it did not happen lol.

The cabal is real, haven’t you watched blacklist? Come on man! 😉

          • Jed says:

Sorry to be overharsh. I lived outside my fine nation, this one, for more than 25 years. Mostly in places where no English was spoken and I spoke at best second hand local dialect. You get to living inside your own head a bit. I constructed for myself a vision of an America populated with rambunctious vying groups…but mostly intelligent people capable of reasoned debate and liable to logic and objective thought.
Then I returned, in 2008, to discover that my fellow Americans are ridiculously prone to obvious frauds, magical thinking and insane rumor. A land in which scientific reality must fight, hourly, against the rankest claptrap and where history is either unknown or grossly recapitulated to fit the crudest of wadged-together narratives.
I miss my self-made America and sometimes overreact when what I take to be ‘the circus’ intrudes. I apologize if I harshed your trip.

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

One thing that really gets me is that the concept of critical thinking isn’t taught in schools anymore. You should always be skeptical of statements/ideas/concepts and examine the sources credibility and always look for falsehoods or misleading info. Too many people don’t make the effort to examine whether it is true/credible info or not.

If you are speaking of political thinking – yes, I see people parroting false/half-true political speak all the time. Bugs me to no end. But, hey, this isn’t FOOTBALL so I won’t comment on this anymore.

          • Jed says:

Indeed, we must preface all with FOOTBALL and thence sayeth not.

        • Jim Casy says:

          So…no moon landing? 🙁

        • MoJoOkie says:

No steppin’ in it for mankind?

        • metzker says:

          Put the pipe down!

        • Bob Edwards says:

I really don’t know how to respond to the moon thing. I live in Huntsville Al which has the primary engineering center for NASA. I’ve met engineers that actually worked on the moon program. There were hundreds of people who were involved in that project. All the ones I knew were good honest people and yet somehow they were all willing to lie to cover up a hoax that would seem to have no purpose whatsoever. I’ve never known ten people who could keep up a hoax like that for fifty years more less hundreds. It is just too opposed to human nature.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

I’m not even of the belief that you would need to convince or lie to employees. NASA is so large and everything is so compartmentalized that most wouldn’t know everything going on.

          • Farmer Glickstein says:

My father was an electrical engineer who work for ITT, Space General, and Teledyne in the late ’60s and early ’70s. Said he was still moving up the ranks at the time of the Apollo 11 missions but did later design hi-telemetry equipment for military and spacecraft applications. He doesn’t know if man went to the moon or not, but he does believe he has worked on some equipment that made it there. But to end on a football note, I wonder how far someone could punt a football on the moon.

          • Steve Harris says:

Farther than Wahoo McDaniel’s quick kick against Iowa State in ’58.

        • SoonerOracle737 says:

So, if the moon landings (plural) were fake, just how did the three mirrors get on the moon? The Mythbusters show you they are there in this video.

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmVxSFnjYCA

          • KJ1123 says:

I never understood why people think it was faked. But it makes for interesting reading.

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

It was the biggest thing of my early childhood. I loved NASA and all things space so much. I watched the first landing on TV while wearing my official NASA jump suit. NASA was to me as the Nija Turtles to my children in the 1990’s.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Exactly, you just further proved why you would completely reject the idea of not landing on the moon in 69 lol. It would CRUSH your childhood memories lol

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

Yeah, it would. 🙂 I respect healthy skepticism though. I just think the laser test proved there is a man-made object on the moon where it reflects back the same wave length photons that were shot at it at the precise location of Apollo 15 landing. Not sure anyone can explain away that physical test.

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

I know people who totally reject the previous existence of dinosours. Like, really? Somebody is faking all the bones and dna? Uh, how?

          • KJ1123 says:

Haha exactly. I think there are ALOT of government secrets and coverups. This is not one of them.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

I just think the timing was impeccable given the different circumstances amongst other reasons lol. Anyone heard of anything called radiation? I mean my goodness lol. I may be crazy but oh well! Lol.

          • metzker says:

UM you have to put FOOTBALL in your conspiracy theories!

        • stan H says:

“I certainly don’t believe we landed on the moon in 69” What was it that PT Barnum said about fools? Not to mention the thousands of great Americans responsible for the landings, that you just defamed. WOW

BOOMER SOONER

  • RonBurgundy says:

Hell of an OP today and great way to spread some optimism on a Monday. BOOMER!

  • SoonerMagic76 says:

Excellent OP. Thanks for all the info

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

Lets get a boom tonight and a double Friday.

  • Scott says:

This offense will be nasty. We got a future star at QB and RB , we got some nasty offensive lineman and some very talented WR’s. Hopefully we land CD tonight and Joesph Lewis.

  • SoonerinLondon says:

Is there still a “surprise” boom expected today? (I wouldn’t consider Ceedee a surprise.)

    • Cornbread Earl says:

I thought the same thing. Maybe a double boom today?

    • SoonerFan92 says:

I’m not sure that’s the case. Although, I do hope that I’m 100% wrong.

      • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Well Barnes did say SS17 has a big BOOm for us. Hard to imagine he would post that immediately after CeeDee set his announcement if he wasn’t referring to someone else. Well that’s what I took from it at least lol.

        • Scott says:

I would guess Chaisson to be the surprise BOOM. It would be crazy if Hines commits this weekend.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

That’s what I’m thinking, but clearly I don’t know anything since I don’t believe we landed on the moon in 69 🙂

        • SoonerFan92 says:

But he was talking about today. Also, I think that he and Lamb are good friends so that makes me think it was about him. I could (and would like to be) wrong. Lol

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

I’m aware he was talking about today which is why I don’t think he would steal his ( Lambs ) thunder, but I could be completely wrong lol. Either way a Boom a day will keep Stephen Dale away!

          • SoonerFan92 says:

You know what else keeps him away?? The BLOCK feature lol.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

            Indeed it does lol.

  • j l says:

I know its been said that okudah wants to play CB in college, if we were to happen to land him, would we go after another safety to pair with barnes? Could any of the current CB commits fulfill that role?

    • Scott says:

Deangelo Gibbs can play Safety and Jaylon Johnson has the ability to play Safety.

    • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

We’ll have Barnes and Haughton at safety and Okudah at corner along with whoever steps up across from him lol

      • j l says:

Still waiting for one of the safeties to emerge from the 2015 class. I agree haughton is the most likely candidate.

        • soonerthunder says:

Believe me, Haughton HAS emerged. He’s the next great one. Just b/c he can’t beat out another great one older than him in Parker or thomas who is very salty and 3 yrs older doesn’t mean he hasn’t already emerged. That’s guy’s a superb player right now. Don’t worry about him. The others, I am not sure about yet at safety. Him, I feel about him right now that I felt about Parker coming out of his true FR yr.

          • j l says:

I sure hope you are right. If hes anywhere near as good as parker was as a freshman, its in good hands.

          • soonerthunder says:

This year, we are very good at safety. We will see Haughton this year like Parker last yr, imo. I doubt we’ll have Haughton and Parker playing together next yr, though. Wish we would, but doubt it.

I remember seeing Parker in state championship game. played cb and dominated D1 WRs, including some coming to OU. Played punter returner, dominated. Played on O, dominated. I have rarely seen a guy playing that big of a game who wasn’t a QB who played any better with tons of D1 talent on the field. Knew then that this guy was some kind of special.

1st yr, true FR, played a lot. But as we all know, you make your biggest jump in football or basketball between the 1st and 2nd yr. Parker was, well parker good last yr. Houghton is that kind of good, imo. He’ll play a ton. We’re good at safety this yr.

I think Thomas is great at CB. But, worry about guys emerging at other cb and backups. Got to have depth, and I know, I hear people predict “you can book it, so-&-so will b/AA”, but I never do book it. I want to see when they get to this level. I’ve seen too many 5* never do much, and 3* win Heismans, so I want to see what they look like in scrimmages and games. Johnson’s very good. Saw that in spring b/f last yr, and sure enough, he was good at nichol last yr. Just want to be more sure of anyone coming up behind Parker/Thomas/Houghton at safety, backup behind Thomas at CB, and I’d like to see at least two guys “emerge” using your word at the other CB. I think someone will. Austin is really, really good, imo, but he’s on the very light side. That’s only thing that worries me about him. Saw Sunderland in HS and he was best player on the field you could tell. His team wasn’t as good as other 6A schools he was playing, and maybe even didn’t have as good of coaches as some schools in 6A overall, but sunderland willed them to wins playing O and D. But still want to see it in college. It wasn’t a Parker like state championship game between two greats in Union and Jenks. He may be, but haven’t seen enough just yet.

          • j l says:

I really hope we get parker and thomas for another year, but i just dont see it. They are both NFL good.

Thanks for the update on haughton, looking forward to seeing him contribute this year and going forward.

so are all the OP’s this week considered the rub so that the BBQ will be that much sweeter?

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

Bigger surprise today, no booms or multiple?

  • hOUligan says:

Multiple would be the bigger surprise to me. A BOOM a day is pretty good for this guy.

  • metzker says:

Kinda slow for such an awesome OP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!BOOMER.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

That’s really the reason I posted my controversial topic. I was tying to get the comment section to 1000! Jk. But you’re right, pretty slow. Hopefully around 6:30 we can all get crunk in the comment section. Do most of y’all stay on here during the football games? I can usually hardly breathe during them let alone comment in a thread the entire game lol

      • metzker says:

I have an excuse Bayer crop Germans in town for a few days.

      • BoomCity89 says:

Haha!! I’ve never been on here during a game and I’m not 100% sure if I could. I’m usually glued to the TV, running around the house or taking a shot (For a OU touchdown or in hopes of a miracle).

        • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

The anxiety I get when watching OUr boys is insane. I never got that way when playing sports as a kid, I wonder why it’s the case with Sooner football? lol. I’m sure a lot of it has to do with the fact that we’ve been dominant basically my entire childhood/ early years of being a sooner fan so the thought of a loss just crushes me.

Very true! If they end up losing a game, it usually takes 3-4 consecutive blowouts in order for me to somewhat “forgive and forget” the loss. I’ve only gone through 2 seasons where I started to not hurt after a loss and that was in 2009 and 2014, mostly because we lost 5 games those years.

          • Scott says:

I think that Clemson loss really motivated the players and coaches. To lose that playoff game was extremely hard on OU. This year will be special brother. The brotherhood , the love this team has for one another is just special. When Joe Mixon committed to OU he didnt just want to win a Championship , he wanted to start a dynasty at OU. This team’s mindset is in the right place. One more thing , Baker Mayfield is just SPECIAL.

We have game threads but it takes practice and dedication to participate, as well as some planning. First train your eyes to work independently of one another, have a long straw for your drink, an ice chest next to your chair as well as a bucket to pi$$ in. Practice before season.

        • SoonerOracle737 says:

I think it would help if TFB posted fall camp game threads for us to get properly conditioned for the season.

        • Jordan Esco says:

Still involved, but obv he decommitted for a reason. OU will keep working him, but will (and have been) continuing to recruit other CBs as well.

  • Jordan says:

So by the end of this week, Lamb, Chaisson, Newman (Jordan alluded to another one to keep an eye on, I assume it is him), and maybe even Hines could be committed? I am a fan of this

  • j l says:

Crazy to think about where we were at this time last year with our recruiting compared to now. After this weekend, we could have close to 20 kids committed, with like 12 or so top 300 level(and more deserving of that distinction).

Last year at this time we had what, 4-5 commits?

Hell of a job by the staff.

  • Matt says:

Are the Sooners still in on Browning? I love Gumbs and Chaisson but it sounds like Browning is far ahead of them in terms of coverage ability.

  • Bob Edwards says:

So is Stoops going to do an Osborne? Tom Osborne was successful throughout his entire career, but always seemed to be one step short of the prize. Then at the end of his career he put it all together In Osborne’s final seven year he won the conference championship six times and a division championship the other year. In his last four years he won three national championships.
Stoops did win a NC in his second year, but other than that his career has been very similar. Lot’s of success but always one step short of the ultimate prize.
So in the last few years Stoops has seemed to recovered what made him successful in his earliest years. We seemed poised to make a multi year run. Anyone think he’ll finish the way Osborne did?

    • Jordan says:

I would be ok with three national championships and 6 conference championships from Bob in the next 7 years

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

Only if Saban retires. He’s the Barry Switzer of today

    • ouwooferman says:

It will be harder. Coaching turnover at the assistant position, players leaving early, the ever evolving CFB landscape, and ESecPN will do everything in its power to keep the SEC in power.

      • CcrBoomer says:

Funny you mention that. Last night i was looking at the top recruiters on rivals and it list the salary under there name, i was very surprised how low most are paid compared to OU’s assistants. Was shocked Bama’s are listed from 250,000 to 450,000. Brent V. was the top paid on the list at 800,000

        • Bob Edwards says:

That’s because they are spending more of their budget on paying players. :0

      • Bob Edwards says:

I agree with most of that, but not sure that assistant turnover is really that worse. Looking back at a list of assistants under Switzer most positions weren’t filled for more than two or three years. His coordinators lasted longer, but overall I don’t think it is harder. Then there is the fact that a lot of us believe part of Stoops problem was he let his staff get too static and comfortable. He was eventually forced to move them on. Would have been better to have some young studs that did a good job for a few years and then moved on.

        • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Doesn’t hurt Saban. We need dominate defensive players who can hold prolific offenses like FSU to 2 points in a National title game!

        • ouwooferman says:

Seems all but one year we were playing for NC and we lost either our OC, Leach, Long, Mangino, Stoops, Wilson before the game. I do not have recollection of Switzer losing his coaches before a NC level game.

      • Farmer Glickstein says:

    • SoonerOracle737 says:

Good question – seems like it could be shaping up that way with recent recruiting success and good assistant coaching selections.

    • Farmer Glickstein says:

I do! And I think Bob desperately wants to win couple more championships to insure his legacy next to Bud and Barry.

    • Boom says:

I’m with you and I like it. OU was down like UT is now (somewhat) and Neb was rolling. Players stayed healthy and had one of the best option QBs for Osborne’s system. Also, that QB had a good arm too so they kept defenses off balance. I was happy for Osborne and their fans.

    • SoonerinLondon says:

The King leaving is the only thing that got Osborne over the hump.

    • D Hunter Sanchez says:

I’d be happy with one more…ultimately he needs two more to join Bud and Barry.

  • SoonerOracle737 says:

To the TFB Mods: Is it possible to post a thread where it is nothing but questions from the audience, then the Mods answer them? Or we post a lot of questions, and the Mods selectively answer a subset of Q’s? I think something like that is what a lot of posters have asked for? Anyway, thanks for all you do.

    • Jordan Esco says:

Definitely possible. I’d like to do something similar to that in the form of a Q&A of sorts, just need to hammer out the details (and get others on board).

      • SoonerOracle737 says:

Cool. Thanks Jordon. I think that type of post would stir up comments mostly related to football too and get us back track where we should be.

His commitment to UCLA was scratched out. I think he’s still coming

          • Boom says:

UGA explained that so I appreciate it. He does really good work with his hands way away from his body. Owned a lot of OL on his opening film. your thoughts.

          • KJ1123 says:

No problem, he’s got a huge list going, hopefully will cut it down after this weekend.

          • Boom says:

Have you seen his film? He seems to have strong quick hands.

          • KJ1123 says:

I saw some of it last week. He’s definitely impressive.

          • Boom says:

Great punch and then he just controlled the OL with his long reach and moves. Not sure where he goes but he will be good.

          • KJ1123 says:

Plays really fast too, his short yardage burst is really good. Just a gut feeling but I think Michigan will be one of his top schools.

          • Boom says:

If he joined the fold I would be extremely pleased. I think a lot of folks have forgotten Isiah Thomas who I think is going to be really good. I watched his film again the other day and I think he will be a beast.

I think both Thomas and last years recruit Jon-Michael Terry will be under the radar studs.

          • KJ1123 says:

He reminds of an Aldon Smith, just his length and the way he moves. Would love to have him.

          • Boom says:

Haven’t thought about that comparison but good one.

    • UGA Sooner says:

      • Boom says:

Sorry, thought it meant he was scratched, my bad. Whew, glad he’s coming, I really like his film.

        • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

He’s really athletic and deceptively strong ( from what it looked like ) which is everything you want in a DE. I think that position will be loaded for the next 4-5 years for us! Boom, I’m sorry about earlier, I’ve had a snickers and am feeling better 😉

          • Boom says:

You’re a good dude, I know that. I could’ve told you to ease up with a better approach but it came out like it did. As a reminder, the posters are a lot older than you. Most come a little wiser. Later bro.

As I was doing my usual spy mission into the enemy’s camp, I happened to see that y’all have a bit a of a pest problem here. While I don’t have the power to remove it, I’d just like to apologize on behalf of the better side of the Red River, because this guy is not one of ours. And he certainly does not speak for us. So if you would, kindly ignore his trash. I’m sure he’ll go awayi eventually.

    • KJ1123 says:

You guys are always welcomed, you, Tom Selleck etc. I think most of us on here know who the real UT posters are. He doesn’t represent you guys at all imo.

    • Boom says:

Thx bro, your’re welcome anytime. Please don’t mention DeLoss Dodds as you will lose all credibility. 😉

      • Unofficial Longhorn says:

Lmao… I try not to get into the political side of football anyway.

    • Jordan says:

Well while you are here, how are you guys feeling about this season? I haven’t talked to any of my UT friends yet about how they are feeling going into the season

      • Unofficial Longhorn says:

Well after his second full recruiting cycle, I think Charlie has definitely done a good job of restocking the cupboard after his initial roster purge. However, most of that young talent is still young. So as a very freshman/sophomore heavy team with as much inexperience as they have talent, I think the best we can hope for realistically is 9-3 regular season. I think we have the talent to beat anybody, but the inexperience to lose to anybody as well. I’m predicting an above average year from Shane Beuchele, and improved years from basically every position squad. With the addition of the LSU kicker, I honestly can’t think of any group the got worse from last year. So when you think about the close games and the wtf? game we lost last year, I think a 3-4 game improvement is quite reasonable. What say you?

        • Big Tex says:

So we find common ground brother!

        • soonerSD says:

Thanks for a good, honest and knowledgable assessment of where your team is going in to the season. I expect you guys to show improvement from last year for all the reasons you just mentioned. Hoping OUr guys come out focused and eager for redemption after last season’s loss cause I think it will be a close game determined (like many years) by turnovers and special teams.

          • Unofficial Longhorn says:

I think y’all will have the better team overall due to talks experience and that guy under center, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we pull out the win again. I think we have that type of talent on the roster, but, like I said, there’s also a ton of inexperience. But the RRR is never a game I predict. You can throw rankings out of the window every year. All you should do is sit back and watch it all unfold.

          • soonerthunder says:

I will be surprised if ut beats ou this yr. Stoops rarely has ever lost two yrs in a row to a team. It’s almost like he does his best coaching ever when a team had beat him the previous yr. Plus, we were giving away plays last yr that we solved a/f the ut game. one of our OL was giving away things. Won’t happen this yr. Additionally, we made some major shifts in our O play-calling that resulted in doubling O production the rest of the yr compared to the early part of the yr up to the ut game. also, our OL is much better this yr, along with a phenomenal running game we didn’t use against ut last yr. New system, tweeks a/f ut, better OL and much more comfortable in the system than last, and think ou wins this one. will be pretty surprised if we don’t.

i’ve analyzed something about stoops’ teams for about 6-8 yrs now. whenever he has 7 or more returning on one side of the ball, he’s really, really good on that side of the ball that season. last yr we had 7 or more on BOTH sides returning. we did pretty well. this yr for the second yr in a row, he has 7 or more starters returning on BOTH sides of the ball returning. I’ve never seen this before in the stoops’ era, so really wondering what happens this yr. it’s a tough, tough schedule, but it could be a pretty good team fielded this yr if we can keep one guy healthy. Not sure if he gets hurt, but just about anywhere else I think we can keep rolling okay.

yes, i’ll be surprised if ut beats ou this yr

        • Jordan says:

I do not think that is out of the question. I think your QB will be really good, I am from Arlington, where he is from, and everyone around here talked about how good he was. I think you guys will get better, and I hope for your sake that you do not get rid of Strong if the season does not go as well as possible. I think he is a good coach and a stand-up guy.

  • BoomCity89 says:

        • Unofficial Longhorn says:

Yeah, I hope he lives up to the hype. I’m not the most knowledgable baseball fan, as I only pay attention when the Astros are worthwhile to watch (I refuse to support any other team), but I hear he’s supposed to be a dandy.

  • Jpsooner23 says:

    Yea!

  • Bob Edwards says:

So since this is a boom that came back does that make it a boomerang?

Tyler Taylor re-tweeted all of the coaches’ tweets regarding CD’s re-commitment.

  • Bob Edwards says:

I long for the days when disqus half way worked. The tweets don’t work most of the time for me and now, half the time when I click on someones profile so that I can see them, I get someone else’s profile.

This Pokemon crap is bogging down the whole world.

    • BleedCrimson says:

It sucks to live in a Microsoft world. I moved to IE to see if I could get all the tweets. I do. I hate IE. If I could get what folks post any other way, I would do it. I tried Chrome, Mozilla; notta. It sucks to live in a Microsoft world.

      • Sooner Ray says:

Since around 7 or so the tweets seem to be working. I haven’t noticed different browsers helping. When they don’t work on Mozilla, they won’t work on Safari. When they do, they do. Haven’t played around with it a whole lot though.
