2017 WR Ceedee Lamb Commits To Oklahoma (Again)

As has been discussed here a number of times previously, it’s not all that common for a recruit to decommit from a school only to then later re-commit to that same program. Not impossible by any stretch of the imagination, just not necessarily a regular occurrence.

And yet that’s exactly where Ceedee Lamb and Oklahoma find themselves after the 2017 wide receiver announced Monday evening that he had once again committed to the Sooners.

It’s a credit to WRs coach Dennis SimmonsΒ  (among others on the OU staff) and the #SoonerSquad17 as a whole, neither of whom gave up on Lamb even after his initial decision to decommit back in April.

“I still had love for OU (after decommitting). Me and Coach Simmons continued to talk every day. It was like nothing ever happened and I never decommitted or anything. Coach Bob Stoops, Lincoln Riley and Simmons all talked to me daily. I got to be real tight with everyone of them,” Lamb told TFB.

But as we said, and Lamb confirmed, it wasn’t just Simmons. It was the rest of OU’s 2017 class recruiting Lamb to rejoin the #SoonerSquad17. “There is a bond that can’t be broken with the commits and there is no other place like home. OU felt like home and it’s the best place for me,” Lamb explained. And that sentiment is one of the major things that has stood out about this 2017 OU class. They recruit hard for their class and want to play with the best. Even if it means competing with another star player for the same spot.

With Lamb back in the fold, the Sooners now hold commitments from a trio of Texas’ top 2017 wide receivers. And they’re not necessarily done at the WR position either, with room for potentially one more depending on how the numbers shake out.

Lamb told TFB he is done with the recruiting process and his focus now is on his senior season and recruiting others to join #SoonerSquad17. Lamb also plans to use what he says will be his only official visit to see the Sooners square off with Ohio State in Norman.
