– Hunter Rison: 2017 WR Hunter Rison (Ann Arbor, MI) is expected to visit next week, and I spoke with someone earlier this week who is close to Rison that confirmed the trip was still set. However, last night I received word that based on the number of receivers already committed and where things stand with one other particular receiving target, the Sooners may no longer have the room in their 2017 class to take Rison.
As such, we reached out to an individual this morning who is close to Rison and this person told TFB the 2017 WR will no longer be visiting. We hope to have more clarity on this shortly, but for now we can confirm that, as of right now, the visit has been cancelled. – (Super K & Brandon)
– Myles Jones: One of the tallest DBs in the 2017 class, Myles Jones (Magnolia, TX), confirmed last night he is still scheduled to make the trip up to Norman today. Jones was an unknown player on the recruiting trail not too long ago, but in the past month or so has picked up offers from Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Baylor, TCU and others.
Jones is listed at 6’4″ and plays cornerback for his high school. We are told the Sooners believe he can potentially play any position in the secondary. – (Super K)
– UPDATE (11:19 am): You may recall from his tweet and/or Monday’s Open Post, but OU defensive lineman Du’Vonta Lampkin was scheduled to have a procedure on his knee today. A source close to Lampkin shared with TFB that the surgery went well, and the doctor’s estimate he should be fully recovered in 4-6 weeks.
– UPDATE (12:02 pm): Hope this isn’t a distraction for Saturday. Also, fwiw, probably not the only assistant OU loses after this season either.
BREAKING: UT Rio Grande Valley has hired Oklahoma's Lew Hill as its next head basketball coach, sources told @CBSSports.

– UPDATE (2:52 pm): We had this in one of the daily posts earlier in the week (and alluded to it in the previous update), but on the chance anyone missed it and/or didn’t know what/who we were referencing in the noon(ish) update.
UTSA will hire Oklahoma assistant Steve Henson, sources told ESPN.

Sooner
Sooner!!!!!
Bummed about Rison. Just a feeling, but I think he’s going to have an outstanding career.
A little bummed myself. Kid is pretty down from what I gather. He was really excited.
Things work out for a reason. Rison may/may not be with OU but he will do well. Things change over time so we will see.
Do you know if he ever tried to commit?
Gah. Makes it even worse. Wish we could bring in every kid who wants to be a Sooner.
I hope everything works out for Rison.
Sorry to hear it. Kid seemed to be ‘doing the right thing’ and visiting before committing. Guess he could have done the ‘current thing’ and committed first then look around. He needs to keep open ’cause it is likely a WR or 2 will de-commit.
Wow, mind blower on Rison. I thought he was already locked in. I guess it goes to show you have to pull the trigger early to reserve your spot.
I wonder what it’s like to have to call someone who you strongly recruited to tell them you’re no longer interested?
Probably not pleasant. In all fairness though, they have been telling the recruits to get on the train while there is room. Multiple tweets etc. from the coaches on that.
Recruiting a fluid thing, especially with some commits still taking visits. We may not have seen the last of “bad moon” Rison. It’s good the coaches let him know where things stand before the family spent the money on a trip to Norman.
I’m guessing that he somewhat knew the timeline was closing. Played it too close.
And it’s still March. Squad is already filling spots.
Yep. Gotta lock in early. It’s tough, but it’s also somewhat of a deterrent of the “wait forever” approach
Curious who the other receiver in good standing is?
So I wonder who the other top notch WR is that we’re in on…hmmm
Ausbon? Or is he an A&M lean now?
It’s most likely Omar Manning. He works out with a lot of the guys that are committed
I would imagine the other receiver is Jhamon Ausbon.
or omar manning.
Completely forgot about him. Either way, I think either of those guys help to add a little bit of height to our receiving class.
yup
Sounds like Omar Manning is all but locked in then
Recruits that string out their commitment:
So, when the OU coaches tweet out “Reserve Your Spot”…
They aren’t just blowing smoke?

Yeah you definitely gotta jump on when you can
Hey, 76. Can you help me? I’m having trouble looking away from this GIF. lol
Looks like another to use for,you know.

please continue your gifs 🙂
Exactly. Pretty amazing how this early in we’re already seeing this “problem.”
Phenomenal problem
Coaches to targets: No metzing around if you want in!!
Profound truth, Slim! Quit Metzing around!!!
I wish I could up vote this 100 times.
Ha, thanks RDC. I was pretty entertained by it myself.
That is not a robot move and Scotty still doesn’t know
I hope it’s Ausbon. Him and Marvin Wilson are my two big targets. I like Rison but he and a couple of other kids are what I call ‘on the bubble’. These .88 and .89 kids are great, but we need to be targeting AND landing some of these .93 and .94 kids. Ausbon is at .95 I think and that is way too low for him. He has an NFL sized physique and catch radius as a 16 year old. He reminds me of Laquan Treadwell.
I’d love to see Myles Jones in a red zone set though, you aren’t throwing over a 6’4 db.
Also love that I don’t have to wait until noon for an OP thanks Jordan!
Is Manning not a .93?
Ausbon weighs 217 and runs a 4.5. Those are NFL combine stats and he looks like a man running through boys out there. Ausbon is probably the most impressive game tape I’ve seen, and he had an IMG Qb throwing the rock to him so you know he can handle the big arms.
I get that, but you said OU needs to be targeting and landing some of these .93 and .94 kids. Just pointed out that we are (assuming Manning lands at OU).

ya, manning is composite .9364..he would be a solid add.

Super K,Brandon a hint on a silent? O and thanks.
I’m curious about the same thing. The Rison news makes me think there is a silent commitment already secured from another big-time receiver.
KJ…if you’re out there….what can you tell us about Daimler? How is he in pass pro?
So it’s either Ausbon or Omar Manning they are talking about, but does that mean the tight end from Cali could be off the board as well or are they holding a TE spot open?
He has a spot
Awesome!
Well hopefully Lamb doesn’t go to LSU then.
If he does then we just go after Wallace or find someone else. I think cedar hill has 3 guys that will be at power 5 schools and since we already got Rambo, I’m sure we could pull one of his teammate’s as well.
Shaver is a player to watch

You & me both, Curtis!
One can never have enough crimson and cream
LOL!!! Sometimes I think kids do that just to get people in the program to send them more swag.
hhaha yeah but if u dont wanna go there what u gonna do with som eou socks?
Well it’s free high quality athletic gear. BUT, Dunlap seems to be all OU so I think he just wants more gear so he can always be reppin’, and that’s a good thin.
He’s all OU from what I’ve gathered from Twitter.
true hahaha i hope he stays. shoot i hope everybody committed stays
Wow!!! Big boy!!! Class of ’18 6’6″ 340. IMG academy.
AND, he’s a corner! /s
so would they still take ausbon and manning? or is there really just on wr spot left?
If Ausbon wants to come you make a spot for him. Period.
Been awhile since OU has been able to turn away 4* players. Mighty nice position to be in.
Ausbon cancels visit yesterday and Rison cancels today.
Most likely manning then. Though Ausbon did cite the weather has his reason. Thanks Gary England…
I think there was an effort on twitter the other day with the #WeWantOmar thing, so maybe it is Manning?
weather got ausbon it was crappy out to be flying and driving
Not sure why we couldn’t get two more wideouts especially since we can afford to offer 30 scholarships easily. I for one would like to see Rison and Ausbon join the squad. Boomer
exactly my point below Eric. I agree with you a million percent
Ausbon will have a spot if he wants it.
We don’t have 30 schollies to offer unless we want to break several NCAA rules. We also need some DL, OL, and LB’s in this class. That is the reality of recruiting. Every scholly you give to one position you lose at another position. So unless you are good with playing WR’s at guard and tackle, you have to stop at a particular number. We are there now.
Wrong. Your not counting on the amount of scholarships you have now. You have to take into count the amount of possible transfers that can happen. Look at the amount of WR’s we have on the roster right now. Tell me other than Westbrook and Andrews (TE/WR), who has proven anything? none. That’s why there comes a point in time coaches need to say you know these guys haven’t shown me anything now lets go find someone who will. Its not like Eric is saying we need to take 10 WR’s. I say if we take 4-5 we should be good. We have enough Depth at both lines but could use some. We have no depth at WR
This is what our spring roster shows now, we have 4 more coming in 2016 class, while there may not be stars in this group today, there is probably stars in the making, unproven talent. This group makes a total of 19 currently here (does include walk ons) and 4 coming in this summer. Does not leave much room for any more.
81 Mark Andrews WR 6-5 244 RSo.
83 Nick Basquine WR 5-11 192 RSo.
1 Jarvis Baxter WR 5-11 165 Sr.
84 Grant Bothun WR 5-11 193 RSr.
88 Eric DeLay WR 6-2 209 RSr.
87 Parker Fentriss WR 6-2 196 RFr.
18 Dahu Green WR 6-4 201 So. ,
2 John Humphrey WR 5-11 169 RFr.
80 Sam Iheke WR 6-4 201 RFr. D
89 Connor Knight WR 6-4 248 RSr.
5 Geno Lewis WR 6-1 201 RSr.
82 Ezel McIntee WR 5-10 203 RSo.
15 Jeffery Mead WR 6-5 187 Jr.
13 A.D. Miller WR 6-3 189 So.
86 Lee Morris WR 6-2 207 RFr.
16 Michiah Quick WR 5-11 183 Jr.
17 Jordan Smallwood WR 6-2 217 RJr.
19 Dallis Todd WR 6-3 190 RSo.
11 Dede Westbrook WR 6-0 170 Sr.
You can’t take a crazy number of WR’s this year, just b/c we don’t have many proven ones that will be back in 2017. The reason most are unproven, is they haven’t had a shot at playing. They’ll get that shot this year. Enough of them will turn out to be good enough, I’m sure of it.
Hmmm…..well if Rison was scheduled to visit in a few days, and he has canceled because the coaches feel good about another WR, then I can only deduce that another BOOM! is coming our way.
Also probably why Tylan Wallace didn’t pick OU
I don’t think we offered his brother and they want to play together. Nice get for the Pokes though.
They have some decent WR history. He’ll be a good addition. Didn’t realize the Sooners didn’t offer his brother
He’ll be good for them, I’m not sure his brother will.
I think its not that good of a sign. Lets remember that CeDee Lamb is a soft commit with LSU in his heart. Also, Rambo said when he committed he will still be taking all his OV’s. That shows he’s still interested in looking around. So we could only hope Reagor is a hard commit. If any position was one we need to over sign its at WR, aka the position we have hardly any proven talent other than Westrbook and Andrews. Rison looks legit and I think this could come back to not be a good thing for us, but I hope I’m wrong on all of this lol
Rambo is best friends Reagor and they’re going to play together in college. I don’t think him taking visits mean jack other than him wanting to take advantage of the process and enjoy it.
yes because these kids in todays recruiting world have shown that taking other visits means nothing. Remember when we thought Chris Daniels was solid to us only to visit texas? Then he decommits. We’ve had our fair share of guys decommit from us after taking OV’s somewhere else. My point is why not take Rison when WR is a position we really could use all the help we could get at
I’m not sure anyone thought Daniels was solid.
I thought he was solid once he made a cake and all committing to OU. That showed me he really put the time and thought into where he wanted to go. But hey I may just me a moron lol
That was before Texas offered.
I think he put the thought in to committing to OU but the problem is Texas offered the day before his announcement.
Edit. He wasn’t going to delay his day in the spotlight.
My point is committing somewhere to this generation isn’t our definition of committing. If you commit and still are taking OV’s that shows 2 things. Your smart and your going to enjoy the once in a lifetime process and 2. your still interested in seeing what other programs have to offer you. Rambo is going to do is and so is Lamb. Wont surprise me if Reagor does it also
And I think this staff has caught up with the times. They’re taking early commits this year and living with the chance that 3-4 will flip somewhere else but 3-4 flip every year when they try to make kids wait until “they know OU is home”
Your proving my point. That’s why I think whoever is recruiting the WR position should take Rison instead of telling him sorry too late. Because you never know will stick and who will leave
And so now you think Rison would stay but those already committed won’t? lol. Some will come and some will go just like every other year. I don’t think you should offer every WR out there and expect all but 3-4 will move on. Offer the ones you want (think are better) and if they move on, adjust and adapt.
I never said Rison would stay but having him on the board if one of the already committed guys left would hurt less don’t you think? Instead of telling him sorry we cant take you anymore.
So who all do you offer as insurance commits? And if none of the 1’s opt out do you pull a Saban and tell Rison on signing day that the guys you really wanted all stayed around, so “sorry”?
I think this just proves where they stand with rison. I think the kd Nixon kid is better and they’ve already been recruiting Nixon as a backup plan. So if they lose a receiver or 2 they have other guys they can look at. There’s also a few in state guys that they could look at late if they lose guys.
I was with you on Daniels, but watching the tweets, the texsa staff was playing the race card, and Daniels was deep into the discussion about the young man that was wrongfully charged for sexual assault, ruined his football career and released years later after it was too late. I agree about the racism is all about evil, I Strongly (pun intended) disagree with one staff using it against another staff to move a kid with no basis for truth.
You have to keep in mind, most of these kids have never been on a plane, left their city much less left their state.
That means zero. When it comes to figuring out where they want to play college ball, they will take any free transportation given. Especially if its free and your going to be treated like a King when you get on campus for your OV
That’s my point. Most of them have never been anywhere and they get free plane tickets to travel and be doted on. I don’t blame them.
Just don’t consider any of them committed til they sign. We talk about the ones we lost, how about the ones we took from someone else?
Daniels was halfway out already because of family issues.
Daniels was just a recent example. We’ve had our fair share of players committed to us then they take a simple OV for fun and no seriousness then all of a sudden they decommit from us and commit to that program.
Built in support system for them, a good deal for them both.
This is not the most recent news coming out on him. The most recent stuff is saying he is solid, but still visiting. It is a fun time for young guys.
Exactly Rick. I don’t blame anyone for wanting to take all there visits if someone else is paying for them. That’s awesome and I wish every kid would do it but I think not taking Rison could come back to bite us in the you know what lol
Honestly OVs are great opportunities to get free stuff, to get to see other parts of the country, to get laid, and to have fun.
I am not worried about Rambo decommitting as I think JR is the better player and he isn’t going anywhere.
LOL totally agree with you there. If I had a kid, I would make him take all his OV’s before committing. But this generation of kids has its fair share of kids who will go wherever they feel loved more and OV’s have a way of making people think twice.
Gotta be Omar Manning – I heard Jalen Reagor mention “Omar” in an interview the other day when talking about Rambo and Lamb (as in the OU WRs). All but inevitable..
Waaa, waaa, waaa.
It is almost a year before anyone can sign. There will be many planned visits come and go and many commits waver. Any hand-wringing at this point is wasted. Just enjoy the ride and trust the coaches will end up signing the best they can.
If there was ever a year to over sign WRs I would think this would be the year considering how little proven commodities we have on campus for next year and especially the years to follow. Shocked we can’t take Rison and Manning when outside of maybe DL this is our biggest need this recruiting cycle.
Boom. Don’t state facts lol some people think committing now means we have signed them already
Trust the coaches. They’ve got their finger on the pulse of these kids. They know what they’re doing.
Hopefully. Parrish Cobb walked last year because they thought they had Mayden and then he committed to Bama. Always some sort of guessing element involved but I’m sure the coaches no exactly what they are doing. Stoops has been doing this for 17 years afterall
OU didn’t stop recruiting or wanting Cobb last year. He either changed his mind, or got butt-hurt that OU was recruiting other good db’s. Either way, not exactly apples to apples with the WR position this year.
I heard Cobb was getting a lot of animosity and pressure from Waco residents to stay home.
This is a different year for OU recruiting. You snooze you lose. Let the word be out.
I was literally typing you snooze you lose lol.
I keep losing the TFB and have to fight to get back grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Yes it’s true that there is still a ton of time until these boys are officially sooners. It’s also fair to say that we were shaded a couple of times by some recruits who seemed like locks. However, I think we are completely underestimating the power of this “SoonerSquad’17” atmosphere they’re creating. Now, there is pressure from not one but multiple commits to stay the path and not let the other ones down. I think this will be the biggest difference this year on wavering recruits.
yes its not just the fans pushing for it its their teammates and fellow recruits saying he come ball with us lets build somethint special. and youve got one got that flipped from osu leading them that shows how strong ou is and that hey kids flip u just gotta keep goin next man up
I agree. The bond these kids are forming is going to be too much for them to de commit.
I think the way we finished last year in getting left hung out to dry by two late big time defections really pissed off our coaches and they decided to re-evaluate how they do things.
As it should have. Sometimes you just need a swift kick in the a** right? haha.
I agree. I haven’t like our recruiting process for several years. But what they’ve done in in terms of their current strategy is nothing short of brilliant so I give full credit where credit is due.
I’m not sure anyone is underestimating the power of SS17, or at least, I haven’t noticed it. However, along with what you said about them I’d add that I noticed that BS took a much more active role in recruiting than I’ve ever remembered him taking since his first years as coach. That’s the biggest thing, imo.
Would definitely agree that Bob is involved more. Very similar to what DCinAZ said below. A full on overhaul was made by our coaching staff in our approach to recruiting.
What about winning? Isn’t that possibly the biggest boon to our recruiting? Playing in the semi-finals for the national championship is achieved by very few teams and none of them have the storied history of OU.
You’re right. It’s hard to pinpoint only one specific reason, but I guess the important thing is that the timing has come together quite nicely for all these things.
In fact there is no one specific reason, very seldom is. Each player makes his own decisions and each puts different weight on different factors. In the last couple of years we have gotten a number of hot younger coaches, been in the playoffs, and started a renovation project. Heck we even had a walkon in the Heisman race. All of these and a number of other factors are adding up.
Sup Thunder. Hope all is well. SS17 is playing a major factor IMO. I agree with you and think the house he built took more time than any of us realize. Also, the hip didn’t help either but both are behind him and he looks prime.
Hey I tell you what Bob Stoops would open and hold doors for us on the visit to Norman. After last week scrimmage. He immediately came over to join the recruits on their tour. Hoped on the bus and went everywhere we did. I can’t say that for other Big 12 and SEC schools we visited. That’s one thing that stood out to us on our visits to Norman. He’s really grinding.
Cool, thanks T. Rob. Always like to hear your input.
Thanks for sharing, always love hearing from you!
I still think an Omar Manning, Reagor, Lamb, and Rambo class would be the arguably the best WR haul in the country. Simmons and Gundy really hitting their stride in recruiting
Simmons has exceeded all expectations I’ve had.
Doesn’t surprise me that once Gundy got some time to create relationships at WR that he would be dominant recruiting WR’s like he was at RB.
good point about Gundy.
Sure didn’t hurt that we got Kyler either.
I guess you could add Steve Spurrier, jr. to that as well.
Anything on Marvin Wilson’s interest? Does he have a top list yet or made any comments about OU?
I think he’s all LSU with Texas in second place but we’ll see.
Texas? that must be new because he hasn’t shown any interest in them from what I know. I know he’s high on LSU and Bama
247 has him crystal balled to Texas right now ahead of LSU and no predictions for Bama.
I read where he has very high interest in Bama as well.
247 has him crystal balled to Texas right now ahead of LSU and no predictions for Bama.
Do y’all think the change in coaching hires ( black coaches) have made the biggest impact? I’m not trying to throw the race card out there but there’s got to me some correlation between the two. Or is this more to the success of last year and making the playoff run?
Most of your elite position coaches are black because most of your elite position players are black. Thats the correlation. A long NFL career is a pipedream for most players, but coaching college ball isn’t.
Fair enough. I personally love all the hires we’ve had. I think keeping up with the culture of today’s players has been the best thing we’ve done thus far.
It’s not a “race card” but yes it matters. Who relates better to a young black athlete? A 57 yr old white guy? Or a 31 yr old black guy who grew up the way they did and has already played D-1 ball and been through the process?
Amen
I agree, I just wanted to see if I was the only one thinking this or if I was on an island by myself.
So I guess a 60 something guy like Saban should check out. He’s the main guy when it comes to recruiting. A lot of kids are recruited by other coaches then their position coach. If that 57 yr old white guy puts a lot in the league, I bet he can recruit with any of them.
A sock puppet could recruit for Bama right now.
Saban leaves, wonder how many sock puppets could still recruit to bama.
Until there’s a dropoff in winning production, probably just about anybody.
Both are probably the correct answer.
I don’t know the answer to your question in reality. Only data crunched into hard and fast facts could prove that answer. IMHO the “best person” for the job is the best person, no matter what color skin they may have. It is evil to discriminate on basis of color, The best person should get the job.
Well I agree but the fact of the matter is it still goes on.
To hire a white coach “because he is white”, is down right evil. The same is true of hiring a black coach simply because he’s black. OU has some incredible coaches and have had in the past. I don’t think any of them were great because of their color, rather they were great reguardless of color. Discriminatory hiring does still go on, but I don’t think it’s a problem at OUr school.
Really like this.

NOTE to ALL: For anyone that uses Google notifications, it is now picking up Football Brainiacs’ threads and sending them to me. It has not done this in the past. Which means any recruit that uses Google notifications searching their own name, will receive Brainiacs threads. Be careful of criticisms and derogatory descriptions pertaining to possible future Sooners. Thanks!

weve been a lil more positive now hahaha not liek when daniels flipped and all the craziness that happened with velsus jones so hopefully they see the postitivty
Just curious…..If I Type Oscar, Oscar, Oscar.
do you get one notice or three?
Well then. I think OMAR MANNING FROM LANCASTER, TX 75134, is one hell of a WR and would be a fine addition to the University of Oklahoma football program.
If by “Omar Manning” you mean “Omar Manning and Anthony Hines”, I agree wholeheartedly.
Art Briles thinks Manning will look good in Green / Gold or Black/gray or whichever color scheme they wear……….
I continually hear people say, that “Oh, but we will keep a slot for him.” Here is the reality of recruiting in the NCAA. You are limited to 85 scholarships. You can’t sign more than 25 in one class (there can be an exception if you sign an early enrollee). With 22 positions, plus specialist like punters and kickers and differences based on formations, that leaves you with about 3.5 scholarships per position.
What this means is that, if you load up at one position, you have to short another position. Now you can afford one or two of those in a given year, but then you have to go the other way the next year. There are simply limits to how many we can take.
Fortunately, our coaches understand that or we would probably never have enough linemen, fullbacks, or specialists.
We are there with the WR. Now the coaches will keep in touch with these guys and, if another slot opens up, we can revisit them. The good news right now is that we have plenty of time to make it up if we lose one.
Good stuff, as always, Bob.
How many “preferred” walk-ons are allowed?
How many “preferred” walk-ons are allowed?
Seem to recall that you are max’ed out at 105 but certainly could be wrong.
NCAA rules allow for 105 players to be rostered before the first day of class or the first game, whichever comes first. When school is in session, there is no limit to the number of players on the roster.
So you can have 20 walk-ons in summer practice, more if you are under your scholarship limit. A “preferred” walk on is someone they guarantee one of these slots to.
You just answered my question (before i could even ask it) With the mindset of 17 year olds that change week to week or even day by day, when you basically tell someone like Rison, “sorry we are full, thanks for the interest, what is your plan B?” In todays world it is increasingly harder to hang onto these early recruits. OU flips others all of the time, it will happen to us (again). I was just wondering how the coaches get back onto a former recruits radar.
Yep, it’s the reality. You can sit in whine about it, or you can plan on it. Our assistants seem to be smart enough to know that you don’t stop talking until the letters are signed. Even then, you keep in touch. We have had several players over the years that we recruited, went somewhere else, and ended up at OU after a transfer. Seventeen year olds sometimes make the wrong decision.
How did we sign 28 recuits two years in a row before last year? I thought it was just 85 total.
There are some games you can play with early enrollees. If you sign less than twenty five in the previous year or some of the previous twenty-five leave you can assign the early enrollee to the prior year.
Recruiting has been great so far, but man, I would love to see them bring some big quality D lineman this year.
What would we say our greatest needs are for recruiting in 17? I’d say WRs and DL are the most pressing needs.
I think with the 2015-17 recruiting class we have definitely upgraded every position with size, speed and quality except for DL.
Yup. We need a DL class haul similar to our WR haul or our DB haul in this year’s class.
Unfortunately the number of high quality DLs available in any given year is not as great as WRs and DBs. If you miss out on your top two or three targets you’re already down to good DLs and not great ones.
We need at least one top notch DL this year.
By one you mean two or three, right?
Preferably. But the bare minimum is one.
I would take 4 – 5 LBs. Draper, Hines, Browning, Gumbs, & 1 more. Thomas too but he may be a DE.
1a WR (full)
1b DL
2 DB (full)
What would we say our greatest needs are for recruiting in 17? I’d say WRs and DL are the most pressing needs.
I would imagine it’s a point of emphasis for the coaches.
Fire Coach Thibs!
Thibs taking the heat off of Kish!
I thought we could take 5 WR this class. Figured rison and 1 other. Kinda sucks, but at the same time, turning 4 stars away this early means you got a hell of a class going.
Absolutely, a good problem to have!
Nice to have the same problem that Bama has.
Could this send a message to other positions like RB?
By my count we lose three scholarship seniors and are signing four. We are probably full scholarship wise. I would expect us to look for a couple of prefered walk ons.
Baxter, lewis, westbrook are the 3 Sr i assume you are calculating. Did bothun or connor knight ever get a scholly?
pretty sure Knight received a scholly
I don’t think so.
I was not aware he had.
We should start teaching our DBs to have the horns thrown down when they’re in their stance, regardless of who their opponent is.

We certainly reminded them of that harsh reality in this year’s Bedlam Beatdown.

It sure seems like OU plays better against osu, when they (osu) have a better team. Took them seriously and whooped their butts last year.
Great point. They need that same mentality against Texsa

Better hope Lamb sticks with OU
Who is the “particular receiving target”? Omar Manning I Hope.
I hope it’s the Baylor decommit!
He would be great but I would prefer Omar Manning.

Them guys need some larger shirts. 🙂
LOL, thought the same thing. Assuming he’s got OUDNA, they don’t make shirts big enough for that.
Wait a minute. I thought “hine-sight” was 50/50. I’ve been operating on a false paridigm all this time?
Pretty good.
I know not many people put stock in B/R, but they just gave us the 2nd best odds of landing okudah in a video, at 6/1. Id take those odds lol.
I think we do have the 2nd best odds. The problem is tosu is probably 2/1.
They gave them 3/1, but ya, going to be tough to beat them out. Hopefully beating them on the field can help narrow those odds some.
Maybe he’ll think harder about where to go after we whoop tosu
Noooo. I wanted Rison
update added
Scope i take it, thanks Jordan.
yep, wasn’t expected to be anything serious and thankfully, for his sake, that proved to be accurate.
that was one of your better updates.
guess I’ll have to make sure next one is a downdate then. i mean after all i do have a reputation to protect 🙂
No need to balance the scales. Im pretty sure that we’d all be fine with 100% updates
Edit: Other than SD and Jeff*
Well yes
Lmao
I was a little disappointed this time so for the next one could you post one I will like, but that Fear will not? Thanks in advance.
Maybe a misplaced comma or a wrong verb tense so Dustin will have something to do.
Had that been me?
Commas and verb tenses are not my forte and now you’ve made me a little dizzy. I’ll have to get back with you a little later.
Until further notice, no downdates shall be allowed on OK TFB, other than between 12:01am and 12:02 am, on Saturday morning. Any downdates that cannot be included in this generous time slot shall be added to the Texsa TFB instead. Violation of this TFB mandate will be met with sarcasm, venom and querulous (pissing and moaning)comments.
HAHAHAHA,Nice one.
Metz, I think I may have spent too much time writing SOP’s in my younger days. That company is probably still re-phrasing some of my SOP’s that came on the days that I was bored senseless.
Lmao!
Good news is good news!
re: the WR situation, just wanted to quickly point out/remind that for all intents and purposes, TEs are essentially WRs in this Lincoln Riley offense.
So when it come to a kid, like say, Calcaterra, IMO that’s basically someone who, on OU’s board, is going to count as a WR.
I get that may be a “DUH!” type of comment from some, but I’ve seen so many ?s about why the WR #s don’t make sense so I simply offer this as a possible theory/explanation towards that.
So the mystery man behind door number three is actually a TE who is actually a WR?
Or is he a WR, who’s actually a TE, who’s actually a WR because we don’t list TE’s as TE’s, but we list TE’s as WR’s because we don’t really have TE’s we have WR’s even if they look and play like TE’s?
Exactly!
Great, now can you explain to me what I just said?
Can’t right now, my ADD is arguing with my OCD and I can’t hold onto my thoughts.
Actually that should be CDO, WHICH IS IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER LIKE IT SHOULD BE!!!
Made me chuckle Bob, thanks.
good stuff Bob.
What?? Now you’ve confused myself.
I was just going to say that.
…
I wonder if Ausbon cancelled his visit because of the weather ( as he stated ) or for the same reason that Rison is cancelling. While I’d be fine getting Calcaterra whos hudl is pretty impressive, Id rather have Manning or Ausbon at this point if we only have one spot open.
Ausbon will have a spot no matter how many WR we take.
Omar either.
I disagree.
He’s a freak. He’s one of those who if he wants to come, you take him. Trust me, if he wants to come, we’ll take him.
Okie dokie
Yeah. He is the one guy that without a doubt has a body that is ready for the college game on day one.
http://im.ezgif.com/tmp/ezgif-3879084193.gif
Can’t take every WR in the country. Secure your spot or watch OU on tv.
Sure we can. Who needs linemen?
We can put 80 lbs on Calcaterra? Worked for Chester and Johnson.
take one of or any combination of – Ausbon , Calcaterra , Hunter Bryant
all three would be nice of course

What an obscure college. Never knew it existed.

Distractions suck!Be it football or bb.
So we can expect to see them on OUr schedule next season?
Dang can’t they wait a week to let Lew win a national championship?
We are going to have to battle Baylor for Omar
I’d be more worried about TCU with Omar.
Agree.
His twitter blow up about his Baylor offer is what started worrying me
I guess the coaches feel pretty confident about Lamb’s commitment, even after he goes to visit LSU?
And I’m sure they feel confident that they could fill his spot with an equally talented WR, were he to decommit.
Right. Everyone is getting uptight about all the WR’s we are leaving on the board, but all that means is that there are plenty out there interested in OU, if we lose one.
LSU can’t put together a decent passing game and there could be a complete coaching turnover next year.
At least at OU, they know we are stable and are going to put up numbers.
They haven’t been able to throw the ball in years yet they keep turning out NFL WRs like Odell Beckham Jr. I dunno how they do it.
SEC / ESPN $$$
It’$ hard to $ay how they keep $nagging top receiver$. $eem$ like it would be a $tretch for them.
Nah. Odell is from Baton Rouge and the state of LA is a very talent rich state with no other relevant football programs in it outside of LSU. His counterpart, Jarvis Landry, was from Metairie, LA. They were both homegrown kids.
In the$e ca$e$ there may be another an$wer, but when thing$ can’t be explained regarding an $EC $chool there i$ alway$ one po$$ible explanation.
Meh….I don’t think Bama and LSU have to resort to dirty tricks to recruit in their talent rich states.
And yet they do. Look up the name Albert Means.
meet the bagman
http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2014/4/10/5594348/college-football-bag-man-interview
Excellent article. I can’t believe they’re so matter of fact about it and it’s so ingrained in the SEC that it goes back generations. If they think the rest of the country thinks cheating isn’t cheating they are wrong.
Who besides Dionte Watts and Isaiah Thomas does OU see as a possible lean right now along the defensive line? And I am including DE’s in that question.
Greg Rodgers
He would be a nice get. I sure wish Wilson would take that OV so OU can throw the kitchen sink at him and give him something to think about.
Greg Rodgers
I think we could still get Rison but also note we have Reggie Turner WR Juco walking on in the fall out of Blinn, Juco. Now we need to focus on OL, LB, DL/DE, FB, and ATH as we possibly take 25 verbals for 2017.

Prayers.
Damn sorry to hear that, prayers to the family. I’m glad he is using a tragedy as motivation. Go get them big man.
Man that’s tough. Two players with family deaths during the tournament. Got to be hard on this team and particularly the two you men who lost loved ones.
Goodness. I remember him saying he got her a ticket.
Man that blows.
God’s blessings to the Lattin family
Sorry to hear this. Prayers up for him and his family.
Win it all for grandma Lattin and Manyangs brother.

Should’ve jumped on board when he had the chance.
I’m all good with these WRs being so tight with each other, but if one sours in the next 10 months it could spoil the lot. I’d like to get at least 1 more who wants to be “The Man”, and not just one who wants to play with his boys. If one gets more PT than the others, I bet there could be some chirping. I hope not, but……. That is why I’d take Rison. Well that and getting one out of MSU’s backyard would be nice.
They’ll take another WR at least. Book it.
They’ll take another WR at least. Book it.
Rison maybe should have done what everyone else does…commit then take visits, like Rambo. He needs to stay ‘open’ if he really wants to be a Sooner. We’ll see about Rambo and if Lamb sticks after his visit to LSu.

Too many slots for Wr already filled.
Too many slots for Wr already filled.
As long as the don’t lose the head coach…good assistants will be lining up for the open spots..especially if they win it all…
in another note…any update on Manyang?
Won’t play in the Final Four is all I’ve heard.
That’s true. Just re-confirmed by Dusty Dvoracek on The Sports Animal about 20 minutes ago.
Yeah, it’s pretty well established he won’t (didn’t) make the trip.
Recruits talk all the time about the influence of the “relationships with current players” at the different colleges they visit.
All I can say is that, if the members of SoonerSquad17 are getting it done on the recruiting trail now, just wait until they’re officially “Sooners”- & getting it done on the field. I expect that these guys will pay big dividends in recruiting for future recruiting classes as well.
First stop, 2017 National Signing Day.

I’m hoping Walker, Proctor and Thompson continue the trend in 2018
That’s a stout trio, Tip. Would be similar to the way the 2017 class is going, IMO.
The NCAA really needs to come up with a way to “black out” coaching moves during bowl season/playoffs etc. Either make your hire prior to or you have to wait till said team is done for the season. Too many coaching moves during these periods have had very negative impacts to teams and outcomes.
With all of these projects going at the same time and meetings i am missing out ON TFB TIME.———–

Praying for you lattin.
Hello fellow TFBers. Most Dont want to admit but the Sooner are doing a overhaul in recruiting after last years semi championship with Clemson if you were watching the game you seen OU just plainly out matched by the level of talent with depth Clemson had. We over achieved in way. But now you put a class like 17 with OU staff and we then are rivals to Alabama and Ohio Clemson because we a
lways had the coaches just not the pool of talented players. And that’s no disrespect to last year tewm. Their the reason most believe and want part this year. I rather over acheive then underachieve.
2 words: Baker Mayfield
aka ” The GOAT “
yOU right!
Is a truth and a great leader
Great to have THE Man on your team have such charisma & be able to back it up on the field. Love the guy.
Yeah he’s a special type of player
Hey T Rob. It’s amazing what can happen when a few top rated kids like Tyrese and Barnes commit early and get others excited about being part of something. New territory for Bob and OU. I’m liking it. A lot.
Oh yeah no doubt. IMO you put this coaching staff with a top 5 class talent pool they’ll get you tha that national championship within 4 years
I said last year on LT that this team wasn’t a national title team because of the lack of difference maker talent in the trenches. I still believe that is somewhat the case until I see more dominance along the lines.
Very fair assessment. Here’s to a speedy recovery for Lampkin ?
& ?
Need the d line to step up
Definitely. I think the Oline will be okay. They were just really young at the OT position and that’s a guaranteed problem on just about any team.
The talent along the Dline is what concerns me most. Outside of Walker, I don’t see any next level talent there. I’m hoping that the younger bulls will get in the rotation this season and take over.
Oline will be solid this year , size wise should compete with a Bama and Clemson. Now for the Dline we need these Younger guys to step up and compete for the starting job.
sounds like Austin Roberts can be that type of player and the way players talk about Lampkin and Gallimore reminds me of the way players talked about McCoy and Adrian Taylor in practices during their redshirt years. Although, I don’t know that the guys talking about Lampkin and Gallimore are as talented as the guys talking about Lampkin and Gallimore..
You don’t always need NFL talent to win a CFB title, just great college players. Look at the 2000 D Line. That said, I am not sure that Dimon, Wade, DJ, and Romar are great college players.
There were OU teams in the past where Darlington and Kasitati never would have seen the field even as back ups.
On any real OU team, neither would’ve ever sniffed the field. Our talent level dropped dramatically for a few seasons and the people pointing that out mercilessly in the media weren’t wrong.
How the hell did Nila survive any time on the field when the dude maxes out 12 reps on the bench press?
Surely he’s hurt… right?
When I watched Nila, he always appeared soft to me and not in the mold of Olineman that Coach B prefers.
By whiffing on a lot of his blocks.
2007-2008 perhaps?
This years line will be so much more physical than last year it’s not even funny and that should make Joe, Samaje, and Baker smile from ear to ear. The two best players on the line last year were a freshman and a redshirt freshman if that says anything. If you go back and watch any film of last years big games you will see who missed the majority of their blocks or just got manhandled (especially toward the end of the season and bowl game). It wasn’t big O or Samia. Darlington had the spot due to his intelligence to make correct line calls and experience otherwise there’s no way he is out there. Nila was solely because of lack of depth and he being a senior. You’re absolutely correct Bob there are OU teams they wouldn’t have even been on period but the talent around them last year covered up a lot of their deficiencies. We will see a few missed blocks in the first few games while all these newbies gel but once they settle in I believe this young line will be a hell of a group for years to come.
When Baker Mayfield realized he should “drop” Texas Tech and go be a Star at OU.

dang it.
1960 HUH!!!!!!! In the event of a nuclear attack follow these simple rules.
just seems every time we loose assistant coaches before a big game we implode. Sigh
Yea i know!
Maybe, but maybe NOT this time. Two of our young men are suffering loss of loved ones, while two valued assistant coaches have new opportunities before them. Attrition, death, injuries, unforeseen circumstances are all facts of life. Adversity can reveal character and determination, motivation to win. Just have to believe our team can focus, survive and advance. Saturday is the biggest game of their lives so far. They will give us all their best effort.
This is a product of success.
That’s great news for Coach Henson & Hill. Glass half full.
Any ideas if either or both coaches are departing immediately, or will they stay on through the weekend? I would think it wouldn’t be a big issue if they decided to hang on for four/five days to get through this last weekend of the season.
Good for them.
I do agree good for them. For selfish reasons, I would like them to stay a couple more years.
Last remaining WR targets : James Robinson , Omar Manning , Jhamon Ausborn.
Steve Henson is also headed to a head coaching job at UTSA per Rivals.

Cheerleaders will be afraid to cheer here.———-
1234 or 2134……..tough choice as photos go
Didn’t see the score board!
I think after the next round of law suits, all of the cheerleaders at Baylor will be men…
1-3 is a toss up but 4 is definitely last.
agree’d
2.. 1….. 3 …………….. 4
definitely
4 is 1
Guys you need to adopt the binary system, makings things much easier. Theres only 1’s and 2’s and they are all 1’s
3, 2 twice, 1, & 4
3124
3,2,1,4 para mi
The gal on the left is crazy cute.
So who is the other WR we are in a good spot with that we would back off Rison? Anyone have any ideas, cause I figure we would take 4-5 and we are at 3 so clearly 4 is the number if we are backing off him.
Probably calcaterra and manning.
I think we are in good with Calcaterra but think he will be more a TE type and I am very hopeful it is Manning he would be a bug get for us!
manning reagor and Rambo all train together with the same trainer. They’re all tight Dont be surprised if he commits within the coming weeks
Yes he would be a bug get for us cuz the boy can fly.
Can Calcaterra do Calculus?
Or Caligula?
Or Calpurina?
i think it was more rison backing off
it wasn’t
Possibly some more good news about WRs soon, then? Maybe???
makes sense then oh well on to the next one
I’m assuming these mbb coaches aren’t leaving ’til after the ff, correct?
correct
that leaves crutchfield, staying as far as you know?
for now, yes

Nice.
Thought it might have said,Marvin Wilson showed up on a surprise visit today.
Sources from TFB Have been told Marvin was so excited he committed on the spot!!!!
Made it before you ran off today – 🙂
Well howdy Cush, just doing my daily reports as we speak, should i say TFB helped me through the day?
Just had to tease after two days of getting on minutes after your “sign off.”
I’ve read the goings on at night – you’ve done well and behaved even if you’ve been forced to post the llama (funny, but it is soooooooo ugly).
Well ,llama is reserved for sd if he says something stupid.
However we were bored yesterday waiting on OP and got some practice in.
Practice is required for excellent performance. We wouldn’t want something stupid slipped in without a quick, derisive commentary. And that ugly creature’s expression could stop traffic!
Well howdy Cush, just doing my daily reports as we speak, should i say TFB helped me through the day?
Would we take him AND Okudah? Or are we not feeling well about Okudah?
Nice work Jordan – OP as usual. Now that I finally got to check TFB, I enjoyed your News as well.

Is Manning the receiver OU’s coaches are feeling good about?
Yup
SS17 was sending out they wanted OMAR – maybe they got him to come on board.
I’ll just say this, I’m not too worried about losing Manning to another team right now.
So how big would it be to get Manning arguable the best WR on OUr board and then landing perhaps, Wilson and Okudah along with Browning. This class is already too strong but, man those 4 would really be a sweet deal!
Brien, do you really think they will take another WR in this class. We currently have 19 on the roster (not all scholly players), and 4 more coming in, in a few months. I don’t see it, unless a 5*, too good to be true, falls in their laps, I just don’t see them taking anymore WR’s. We need some Big Uglies, and a few LB’s still.
Rick, I really do. Mean I think we lose what Baxter, Westbrook and Lewis in this coming season. I am also seeing some on the WR’s on our roster are walkons and not scholly players. Yes well have some young talent, but it’s been said some of those guys could be D players instead of O Motley being one. Humphrey, Mead, Todd, Andrews, Green, Jones, Farrar, Hardy, and Miller all seem like legit WR’s but, think that Andrews has a big year this year he could leave early if not this year then the next I am guessing and we don’t want to get in a position we where at before void of talent at WR. I think we need 2-3 more OL guys and 3-4 DL guys and at LB we add Browing or Hines or a long shot in Moses or someone else like Jordan-Sweeling 2 of those guys to go along with Draper we will be good. Kelly, Jackson and DeBerry will be studs IMO. DB’s are set, and that TE kid may count as a WR but, still they won’t walk away from a Manning or a Lewis if the want to come to OU, IMO!
If we were Alabama, and used the grey shirt to ruin young recruits careers we could recruit everyone without conscience. We are losing 3, bringing in 4, with 3 verbals for 2017 now. By your number which I agree with you are talking about 10ish, that would make 21, I don’t know what we’re looking at for this class, but I think we have to be close. Give’s the coaches something to think about, and gives you and I something to discuss. It’s all good, when we’re talking about these kind of problems.
See I think someone said earlier that Manning is tight with OUr 2 most recent commits and that they train together. And Stephan stated below looking like he is OUrs to lose. Again Idk we say no a talent like that. Mean with the hope he pans out unlike some of OUr previous 5 star guys. I think the coaches know and I think we just want to know lol. But, unlike past years this is a good issue to have. I have felt Stoops has been putting together real good peices here and there the last 2-3 classes maybe not the most glitz and glamorous classes according to some but, the right pieces like he did with his earlier classes and let the play do the talking and the kids will come. Helps the kids we have already are all in and recruiting harder than the coaches lol.
https://twitter.com/CurtisDunlapJr/status/715304551105110016
so is he gonna committ?
Maybe he has?
Nice! Already getting the SoonerSquad18 started. He’s a big boy too.
He is huge. Probably carrying some bad weight.
Kind of weight that makes the person who gets hit by it feel bad.
He probably is carrying some extra, but I would think that elite football academy he goes to would monitor body development. If he comes to OU, CoachTiff/Smitty will cut 25-30 lbs. make him a little leaner and stronger.
Well, its that time of day.Its 4;08 and texsa sucks!Yall have a great day—————
I like what they say…but I would much rather have the natty then worry about the rest…which im sure Buddy is thinking the same way… http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=15089965

Anybody going down to Houston for the game?
I wish, I’d love to
I was hoping to get Rison but if he isn’t part of the group, his choice or ours, I still think we will be good. Haven’t watched any film yet on Jones but if he can cover and jump even a little, that shuts down the fade route for many teams. Also good news about Lampkin.
I realize he’s a legacy guy with his Dad in the NFL and all but sometimes having big names like that serves more as a distraction than anything. Best of luck to him wherever he lands.
Howdy———- and later!
Are you supposed to be out this late? 🙂
Im home Ray I got the ok.
Butttttttt got a date,so going out!Wish me luck,see yall———-
Be home by midnight young man.
Yes sir!
Have fun! I won’t ask ANY questions so you won’t have to tell any lies.
Don’t go all Baylor on the gal. 🙂
I don’t have to be that guy!
I’m going to dress up like a rug this Haloween and track this gal down.
Thx Metz!
One of the most underrated chicks eva right there.
That gives me impure thoughts. And I like impure thoughts.
I might have impured…twice.

Don’t feel bad. He is better off here anyway.
Who feels bad? Not me! I’ll bet Wright wishes he had been a better judge of talent though.
Serious question, does he have an offer and if so why has he not officially committed?
He was offered a scholarship on March 1st 2016 according to 247.
Awesome, thanks.
According to 247 he named the Sooners his leader on March 4th
Another IMG product can’t be bad and def would help to get our name in that program as a pipeline for sure. Mean I know we have been recruiting kids from there but getting one would be huge!
Learn the lessons from Buddy and Baker…
Come to OU,
And be a playmaker!
Thank you.

Haven’t seen much, if any, chatter on who Lon might tab as replacements.
I haven’t either and that isn’t a bad thing IMO. He has a bigger fish to fry right now.
yes but that never stops the masses from speculating
Oh, got ya. Don’t expect much from me because I know very little about the basketball world.
I wouldn’t expect him to even give it much thought until wednesday, or thursday of next week after he has had time to polish the National Champion trophy for a day or two. His email will probably blow up with resumes.
see below- I’m referring to message board speculation etc.
I wonder if Scott Suttton at ORU would be interested, kind of a lateral move in the end and it could spring him on to better things down the road. Always liked Scott (the only Sutton I like).
Can you imagine the aggie uproar? lol.
Just said that in my above statement
I have heard people talk about ORU’s head coach Scott Sutton could be a name to watch out for. Yes he is a head coach and well a Sutton and usually that is attached to OSU but heard that it is a possibility.
said the same below 😉
Losing Lew and Steve sucks but Crutchfield is the one that has really helped us in recruiting and development of players losing him would be a blow. Not sure about any of his staff from previous staffs that may be in consideration but, any of those guys may be names to look at.
I don’t think Lon will ever coach anywhere else, but I do wonder if he would saddle his horse and ride out on top IF he can pull off a natty.
If he did leave, I could see us go after Altman
I think Terry Evans had reached out to Lon when he first came here wanting to be on staff. Lon wasn’t interested at the time, but I wonder if he might be interested in the future.
he’s 63, think he’s stated this is his last gig
Understand that, just wonder if he would come back if he wins the big one this year. I would want to go out a winner if I could.
some logic to it…….rebuild ahead and 2 coaching hires
Got to think if there was any questions about him not being back then both of his very talented Assistant coaches wouldn’t have already taken other jobs. Surely they would have stayed around for a interview at least!
Were you clear of the tornado last night? Drove through some bad damage today between HW 88 and the race track.
It was really close both to my workplace and my home. All’s good though, prayers for those affected.
