Open Post | Wednesday, Feb. 25th (UPDATE 4:52 pm)

– Nigel Knott & Parrish Cobb: If you read (and paid attention to) yesterday’s Open Post, you’ll probably remember both 2016 DBs were prominently featured. And then not so coincidentally Oklahoma also extends an offer to both Knott and Cobb yesterday. – (Jordan)

self five

– Trayveon Williams: And in a busy day for new OU offers going out, the Sooners also extended one to 2016 RB Trayveon Williams (Houston, TX). Thus far it was only OU’s third RB offer in this 2016 class with the presumed early favorite, prior to yesterday, being Abdul Adams (Washington, D.C.).

Admittedly these highlight are fairly old, but what you will see is presumably the style of back Lincoln Riley and co. are expected to target going forward as the Sooners shift back to a “modified” version of an Air Raid offense. More versatile, dual-threat backs who are just as much of a threat catching the ball out of the backfield as they are running the ball.

Williams certainly isn’t the biggest of guys listed at just 5’8″ 188 pounds, but he’s a shifty runner who is still stout enough to run through arm tackles at the h.s. level. – (Jordan)

– Pernell Jefferson: Yet another recipient of an OU offer yesterday was 6’3″ 232 pound 2016 DE/OLB, Pernell Jefferson (New Orleans, LA). As mentioned in yesterday’s OP, Jefferson is actually a teammate of 2015 OU signee Arthur McGinnis. Which one would have to believe could only help OU’s chances. But, more to the point, it was one of several recent offers that shows how different of an approach the OU coaches are taking in this 2016 class compared to last year in terms of LB recruiting.

I had a chance to catch up with Jefferson yesterday shortly after the OU offer, and as one would expect he seemed pretty excited about things. “They’re my biggest offer, in my opinion, so they are really high on my list.” Mind you he’s been offered by Missouri, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and TCU to this point, so it’s not exactly as if he’s holding offers from a bunch of stiffs.

Jefferson also shared with me that McGinnis has already been selling him on OU, and the former is currently working on plans to try and make it up to Norman for OU’s March 7th Jr. Day.

This will be a building process between Jefferson, Tim Kish, and the OU coaching staff, so we’ll just have to wait and see how things continue to progress. But even in my conversation with him, I could tell there was at least some reason for optimism. – (Brandon)

– Chauncey Gardner: Continuing with the theme of guys who OU offered yesterday, Kerry Cooks set his sights on one of the top 2016 DBs in the country when offering Chauncey Gardner (Cocoa, FL). The 6’0″ 190 pound stud DB actually had a preexisting relationship with Cooks from back during his time with Notre Dame. While speaking with Gardner yesterday after news of the OU offer, I asked him about that relationship with the new OU defensive backs coach. “We have a great relationship,” Gardner said. He also went on to say that Cooks is a big reason for his interest in the Sooners, and that he isn’t really in a rush to name any top schools at the moment rather he’s just trying to “keep an open mind to everyone.”

Which is somewhat of a pretty standard answer from a prospect at this point in the 2016 recruiting cycle, so I thought I might push him just a little bit to see if I could get any more out of him. “It (OU) is somewhere I can see myself playing at and it’s a blessing to be recruited by one of the best programs in the nation.” Again, maybe not earth-shattering per se, but still obviously a positive review in OU’s favor. And given the relationship he and Coach Cooks already had and are continuing to develop, there is no reason to believe at the moment the Sooners won’t be right in this one.

However, it is probably worth noting that even though we’re still pretty early in this 2016 cycle Gardner has already had a bit of a whirlwind recruitment. He already been committed at one point to Miami, only to then later decommit, then flip to Florida, only to then decommit once again. So this one could definitely have a few more twists and turns before it’s all said and done. – (Brandon)

– UPDATE (4:52 pm): You have to love recruiting. No less than telling our guy Brandon around 48 hours earlier that he wasn’t really focused on a list of top schools, 2016 DB Chauncey Gardner then puts out a Top 10.

Just a note on Knott. He attends Germantown High School, not Madison Central High School. Germantown is a relatively new school in Madison County, MS.

    • Jordan Esco says:

I’m assuming some type of transfer took place, but I could be wrong.

      • Magnoliasooner says:

Don’t know, but I can find out. I have a close friend who does the Public Address at the Germantown football games. I asked about Knott earlier this morning. He said he’s the first big time recruit that Germantown has had since it’s opening. Said he’s been following him since 8th grade. Don’t know if that’s to say he had been following him at Madison Central and now at Germantown, or only at Germantown.

        • Magnoliasooner says:

Knott is the son of a former Ole Miss football player, but his father lives in Birmingham now. Knott’s sister attends Miss State, and my friend said she is recruiting him hard to go there. My friend said there’s no clear leader for Knott currently.

How does University of Miami already hold 19 committs for 2016? Hustle

  • Cole says:

How long until the quarterback recruiting fires up? What chances do you give for Haskins and Costello? I really like Haskins, reminds me a bit of Famous Jameis (the player, not the crab thief).

    • Jeremy Phillips says:

I would say no chance with Costello.. Maybe a slight chance with Haskins.. More than likely looking at an Oklahoma QB, Chandler Garrett or Micah Wilson.. imo…

      • Sooner_Ace says:

Since I am out of state, how do the Oklahoma HS QB possible recruits measure up?

        • Jeremy Phillips says:

Garrett is a 3 star-ish recruit.. 6’4″ 200.. Pocket passer, Wilson not rated as high but might be a better prospect.. 6’3″ 190-200. Little better athlete probably better film but plays in a smaller classification..

    • BigJoeBrown says:

After all we have seen the past few years, it really don’t care who they get as long as they are talented and most important…..Lincoln Riley can develop them. Something we haven’t seen in a long while. imo

  • Doobie74OU says:

Question regarding LB recruiting? Are Mike Stoops & Kish both recruiting all LBs together or focusing on their specific spot. Brandon mentioned above about Jefferson building his relationship with Kish and the rest of the staff. Is this cause we would move him inside or just cause LBs are being recruited as a group by both coaches?

    • Jordan Esco says:

I’d suspect they’ll team up on some and go solo on others. Just kind of play the respective situations as they continue to get a feel for things. Obv each kid is different and requires their own style of approach.

    • Randy says:

Mike Stoops said during the Signing Day interviews that all the coaches take part in recruiting certain players.

    • Sooner 76 says:

Basically, each coach is assigned a geographical area. But the position coaches are also involved. Sometimes multiple other coaches are involved, esp the coordinators and Bob. Sometimes it’s b/c a coach already has a relationship with a player, such as Monty with DeBerry.

  • Doobie74OU says:

Jordon – Also got to say I love the Self High Five!!!!!

  • NewMex Gaucho says:

Oh no…small running backs. I hope we don’t end up looking like Texas Tech, that type of offense will never win championships.

    • Thomas Lenard says:

I wouldnt mind having Quetin Griffin version 2.

      • hOUligan says:

‘Q’ YES! Just don’t want another Finch thing with a scholarship being eaten by a guy the staff suddenly feels is ‘too small’. See these guys as ‘role players’. Warning bells going off if this becomes the standard going forward. Keep bringing in those 6′ 200+ backs that can catch.

    • Kody K. says:

Very good reply, as he does look like the typical TT scat back, not the standard dominating OU running back.

    • Rick says:

Yes…the last natty we had was with Q (5’7″ 195)

  • Drew says:

Just finished watching the Williams tape. While he’s certainly good, he didn’t really pop off the page, so to speak, like Adams did. He’s certainly fast, but small and doesn’t really have the shiftiness you’d need to make up for that IMO.

    • Jordan Esco says:

      I tend to agree.

      • Drew says:

I mean, I can see recruiting him as an athlete or something, but he doesn’t really fit the “selective” notion for RB recruiting that we’ve been hearing so far.

        • Jordan Esco says:

Well, as I said above they only have three RB offers (incl. Williams) at the moment. So it’d be somewhat hard for me to say definitively what type of back they’re looking for. I mean I have an idea just based on they “typical” type of Air Raid RB, but that’s admittedly a generalization on my part.

          • Brien Brown says:

Do you feel that, Perine, Mixon, Ross, and Ford fit into this “Air Raid” offense or are they a different type of RB that Riley will have to kind of game plan around?

          • Jordan Esco says:

I think of those, Mixon is clearly the best fit for it. But they’re obv going to try and make the other three fit as well.

          • J.K. Abbott says:

Tech and EC have run a ton of zone stuff inside and outside and use their backs a lot in the passing game. Not so much Gap stuff. All the above mentioned backs will be fine.

          • J.K. Abbott says:

Those guys have all run behind zone schemes. The biggest difference will be in the passing game and the sets they run out of.

        • J.K. Abbott says:

I guess I missed something. Why doesn’t he fit the selective notion for RB recruiting?

          • Brien Brown says:

Well if you are talking about the Williams kid many only saw his Freshman highlights and thought he looked rough but, they have shared and shown more of his highlights as a Junior and many feel he is a fit. My point was I feel like Perine, is a gap RB, I think Jordan said Mixon would be the best fit for Riley’s offense cause he can run and catch, but in my eyes, I think Ross and Ford both should also be fine, so will Perine mean he caught quite a few out of the back field last year. Just seems this type of offense is built for scat backs as I like to call them Finch and Q size guys. Not big power backs like I view our current RB stable including this years RB Anderson.

    • Soonersreno says:

      Completely agree

    • Bob Edwards says:

The good news is those are Freshman year highlights. Hopefully he has improved since then.

      • Drew says:

Really? Well, I guess the offer makes a bit more sense then, if he was going up against kids 3 years older than him. Still think Adams will end up being far better, but makes this a bit less of a head scratcher.

      • Kody K. says:

Good catch Bob, I didn’t realize it was his fresh highlights. Definitely makes a difference.

    • Jeremy Phillips says:

He’s got junior film on YouTube that i think is pretty impressive .. Not sure why freshman film was linked..

      http://youtu.be/0CJHvojwliE

      • Jordan Esco says:

b/c that’s what he had on Hudl. If you’ve got something more recent, post it and we can easily update the post.

      • Drew says:

MUCH better. Offer actually makes sense now. The kid has fantastic acceleration, gets to that extra gear almost immediately. Still prefer Adams though: he’s faster and bigger, and absolutely dominated in his tape.

        • Jeremy Phillips says:

The thing i like about the tape, is you can totally see him in this offense & see exactly how you would use him…

          • Drew says:

Very true, Williams would look fantastic in a spread/air raid, whereas Adams would fit better in a more ground and pound offense. And all of our backs outside of maybe Ross already fit that mold.

          • Drew says:

Finished the tape, and I also have to admire this kid’s fire. He fights for every yard.

      • Sooner Ray says:

This film looks much better than the freshman film.

  • Randy says:

I am super excited to see OU’s backs in this offense. Perine and Mixon have the quick feet needed and should be better than average catching the ball, Ross can get to the edge faster than anyone else (like Auburn’s backs on sweeps), Ford will be a good goal line, short yardage back that catches and blocks well. Then Anderson is a little of all of these.

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

I really like Fords game it screams NFL, but holding on the football will ultimately make or break his career.

      • Randy says:

I would say he could the combination of all but not sure on his elusiveness and change of direction on the inside handoffs from a actual shotgun formation. I could be and hope I am wrong though.

      • boomersooner says:

I’d say the exact same. He seems to have it all except for handles. Very proud of him because he works so hard, just hope he can forget about the fumbles and remedy the problem and be the best Keith Ford he can be. Really excited to see Anderson too. And then we also got Ross and then Mixon should be pretty shifty….oh and then optimus(he seems decent). That’s a stable if I ever seen one. Very exciting for sure

  • Andy Sundborg says:

Is that team Williams is on running the single wing? Not sure how much of his yardage he gets is from reading the defense and finding the hole and how much is just he’s the best athlete out there

  • Glocal Sooner says:

Brandon, you mentioned above under Parnell Jefferson “how different of an approach the OU coaches are taking in this 2016 class regarding LB recruiting.” Are you talking about how many offers they’re making this early or something? I’d be curious to know what you guys see that they’re doing differently. Thanks!

    • Jordan Esco says:

Just being more aggressive w/ their offers, yes. Getting in on kids early, rather than waiting too long (as we saw happen multiple times last year). Being confident in your evals and making your case early with kids, it makes a difference.

      • Randy says:

How many ILB do you think we missed on besides Jefferson, Houston and Smith ?

        • Jordan Esco says:

I’d have to go back and actually look, but I prob wouldn’t include Jefferson if only b/c I never really believed OU had a truly legit chance.

Either way, though, not sure I really care to even check (not to sound like a dick). That class is done and we’ve moved on, so I wouldn’t really see the point in going back to nitpick something that isn’t going to change.

I already have enough of a rep around here being negative, why feed more into it? 😉

      • Glocal Sooner says:

Thanks Jordan. That’s what I thought he was saying. I felt like that was a trademark of Stoops early tenure here. We were never in the top 5 in recruiting but we always seemed to get the players we wanted and they were great players because we did a great job of identifying great talent early on and not following the crowds to the top recruits.

    • Its all about putting out offers. OU has been accused of slow playing kids, sometimes, and right fully so. They just seem to be offering much earlier this year and being aggressive with their relationship building.

    • hOUligan says:

You never get a 2nd chance to make a 1st impression but sometimes you get a 2nd chance. Hope he makes the most of it.

  • Kanfdog says:

I know there were some rumors of OU possibly changing up the defensive formation to a 3-3-5 or a 4-2-5. With Mike and Kish both having responsibilities of the linebackers and the change with Monty out and the new blood in are these rumors still out there?

    • Jordan Esco says:

I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see them in a 3-3-5 at times, I never thought it was going to be an every down type of deal. I don’t think there’s any plans at this time to go back to a 4-2-5.

      • Josh says:

There would be no reason to have an ILB and OLB coach if the primary defensive alignment was either the 3-3-5 or 4-2-5.

        • Jordan Esco says:

Right, but they’re going to be “multiple” like they’ve always been, which is really more what I was referring to.

          • Randy says:

Need the DL to pressure the QB more, hold up on the middle runs and be more creative with the LBs pressure packages (including the ILBs, not just Striker).I think Cooks will have the Secondary better prepared with coverages in a 3-4 front. I expect some big hits, and more pass deflections.

          • Randy says:

Create pressure, cause panic, get more turnovers.. The days of overpowering offenses are over, make QBs make mistakes get the ball back for your offense and scores “half a hundred” on people.. Ala the College Football Playoffs this past year.

          • hemisooner says:

hard to get pressure when the other team is max protecting and getting the ball out quickly. then having your DB play 10 yds off.

          • Randy says:

That’s the get creative with the LBs part.. Lol

          • Randy says:

Teams get creative in pass protection, WV used 2 TEs, TCU split the OL wider. Need DL to win battles and LBs to get there on pressure packages.

          • Mysterio1 says:

OU looked all world against Tennessee, then the pressure went south.

          • Randy says:

Yep. Tennessee had no QB, and seemed to still not know what kind of offense they wanted to run. I think they just changed OCs as well. You could tell we were in trouble vs WV good offensese are hard to stop, if not for Perine it would have went downhill even faster.

    • Mysterio1 says:

Mike has said he would like to be multiple, can a college team move in and out of a 3-4 to a 4-3 and be successful.

      • SoonerMGB56 says:

When Coach Reynolds was at Miami under Capers, they did exactly that. It was a 3-4/4-3 hybrid. They also took one of the LB’s and walked him up and down the line, looking for soft spots to attack, keeping the OL/QB’s off-balance.
You know how Bob likes “versatile”. He like players on O like Millard, Flowers, and now the Dalton kid. Well it looks like maybe he’s looking to find and use some of that versatility on D?
Certainly no inside info on my part, just speculating. That stood out to me in Reynolds bio. Reynolds, combined with Mikey to OLB coach. Who knows. Just guessing.

  • Jeremy Phillips says:

Jordan you’re probably too young to appreciate this news but the children of the 80’s should be as excited as i am.. Ducktales is coming back..!

  • Steve Cooke says:

K have you heard any rumblings on Delance? Premium article on the Texas board has him quoted as saying the offer would be a difference maker.

    • Jordan Esco says:

Brandon w/b the guy to ask and he’s told you everything he knows (which, btw, is more than most). Most Texas $ boards are VERY aware they have subs to sell and tend to skew things in their favor in an effort to do so.

I’d suspect very little has changed w/ respect to Delance than what Brandon has said here many times now. He (Delance) is committed, but still listening to what other schools have to say.

      • What Jordan said. He loveloves OU more than he loves any other schools. He was just offered by LSU and plans on visiting there just to check them out. That all can change,,though, after his March 7 jr day with OU.

    • Jordan Esco says:

And not that you need me to tell you, but this is always gonna be the things w/ kids when they commit that early. If people (and I’m not saying YOU are) are gonna sweat things all the way up until NSD, it’s gonna be a LONG 12 months.

  • mikw says:

I hope we don’t start recruiting those scat backs. I have so much enjoyed watching perine, catch swing passes and break 5 tackles to make yardage. Why do coaches seem to think we have to have scat backs in this offense. Big backs like Perine has the defense turning them down by the 4th quarter and things get easier.

    • JD says:

I wouldn’t mind both..I’d love to have a Tavon Austin type player out there in this offense..Finch would have maybe gotten better utilized as well…it will be interesting to see if Brooks makes any noise this spring if we are in fact moving to that type of rb…I suspect we will use both types…no need to go after the big pounders this year with the guys we already have on campus here for the next 3-4 years…Perine is a soph..Mixon and Anderson are both freshmen…kinda makes sense to take a scat type this cycle..gives us more options

      • JB says:

Tavon Austin was a WR not a RB…just played RB vs OU

        • JD says:

tomato to mah toe…point is he WAS used at rb and that IS a possibility in our offense …and we should all be excited about the possibilities of our offense with the talent we have and different options so long as they’re utilized right and executed properly

    • Randy says:

240lb backs with Perine’s stop, start feet and vision don’t grow on trees. Usually the smaller backs have these qualities. For the record I think Perine and Mixon are perfect for it but again hard to find and then sign.

    • Stephen says:

Agreed, however pulling a back like a Perine or a Mixon each year isn’t a common. We’ve been forunate to get four in three years (Ford, Mixon, Perine, and now Anderson). It would be nice to have a scat back on the roster to change things up some in a game but there was a lot of success with power backs last year.

    • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Like Jamaal Charles, Darren Sprouls, Quentin Griffin etc…Breaking 5 tackles is nice, but its too much work. I like one cut home run threats don’t you?

    • JB says:

I’m with you. I really don’t think the long-term answer is more passing. If we can be balanced in both passing and running–and I mean TRULY balanced, not calling 100 rushing yards and 400 passing “balanced”. We started the Big 12 offensive trend in ’99, and now everyone in the conference is throwing it all over the place and have crappy defenses (except for TCU). I think we were on the right track building up our power run game. Game clock management, ball control and time of possession are important. Keeping the clock running on our offense would keep our defense off the field. I don’t think exposing the defense to 100 plays per game is a good idea; limiting it to 60-70 plays is better…IMHO

  • Won says:

“However, it is probably worth nothing….”
Was the start of the last paragraph a typo or just reality?

  • Randy says:

What do you think of this RB, seems to a perfect fit in this offense..

Not bad for a white boy..has a lot of west coast offers and seems high on ucla

    • Clint Lenard says:

Kid plays for St. John Bosco, which means that before anyone questions the competition, you can be sure they play THE BEST competition in the nation. Period. Mater Dei, Servite, Orange Lutheran, Crenshaw, Centennial (Corona) are just a handful of the schools they played last season. Incredibly tough schedule.

      • Clint Lenard says:

In fact, I just saw their schedule again. To make it more amazing, they also played Bishop Gorman, Norco, Rancho Santa Margarita and LB Poly. That’s an insane schedule. This kid did some damage vs those schools, too.

Just about every school listed has consistently been in the top 25 in the nation for at least a decade, but all have been in the top 25 at some point recently.

    • EasTex says:

This young man’s video is very impressive.

    • akryan says:

Size. He’s 5’7″ 174lb. He has great speed, but at his size he’s going to have a hard time getting attention from a lot of top schools.

  • Jordan Esco says:

I have really enjoyed the Sports Animal today, all day, promoting this interview Al Eschbach is going to have w/ Mike Stoops later this evening. As though it’s some big deal and not already where Al — and a number of other local outlets/personalities — get most of their “inside” info these days.

    • Steve Johns says:

So you’re saying Mike is their source? Too many brewskies with Al, I guess.

    • BoomerDave says:

It kinda is a big deal to many of us. As a Sooner fan, I’m interested in what Mike has to say.

      • Jordan Esco says:

Enjoy the coach speak then, I guess.

        • BoomerDave says:

I will. And you wonder why many on here think you have distain for the OU coaches. You just can’t bring yourself to believe anything they say, can you? But as for me, I would rather hear things straight from the horses mouth than from “sources” who you claim to tell you the things that you report on here. Which OU coaches can you honestly say that you talk to a a regular basis? Didn’t think so.

          • Bart Young says:

I don’t know if distain is the right word, but most of the coaches aren’t very forthcoming. I come here to get an idea what is really going on; i.e., what the the coaches aren’t saying or aren’t ready to acknowledge. I followed an “inside” reporter through 3 different web sites before realizing the coaches were just telling him what they wanted public rather than being real. So if you want to be manipulated by 100% coach speak, well…..that’s your call I guess.

          • BoomerDave says:

Bart, I have a brain, therefore I can differentiate between coach speak and real information. Did you hear the Lincoln Riley interview or the Cale Gundy interview? Both were very insightful. We’re you aware that Westbrook was going to start out on the outside and Shepard on the inside? TFB have said just the opposite. I suppose they may be lying about that as well, but I guess we will know soon enough whether that was some good info that I as a fan would like to know or just “coach speak” to throw BoomerDave off.
But you say that you come on here to get the real information about what the coaches won’t acknowledge. So where does this “information” come from. Just their best guesses, that’s where. I like to at least listen to what the coaches have to say and I will decide for myself what info is viable and what is coach speak.

          • ToatsMcGoats says:

You have the opportunity to do so. TFB gives info. Do with it what you will. No one ever said that you can’t listen to other sources of info and form your own opinion.

          • Bart Young says:

Relax there skippy. You attacked someone; I called you on it and offered another point of view and now you attacked me. Seems to me you are the type of poster who always needs to be butthurt about something. Listen to whoever you want; I could give two shits really. But it’s a discussion board, so don’t expect people to stand in line to congratulate you for being oppositional and confrontational.

          • BoomerDave says:

You a bit sensitive? Did you honestly feel attacked? How were you attacked by me? I was simply responding to you’re saying I was being manipulated by the coaches, Skippy! So….every time that you listen to a Stoops Presser on Monday or post game, then you are being manipulated? Lol.

          • Bob Edwards says:

So are we now replacing bashing the coaches with bashing Esco? The coaching staff very often does not speak clearly and bluntly. Some of that is legal issues such as HIPA restrictions on medical issues. Some of is leadership 101 where you don’t criticize those under you in public. Some of it is just pure spin. I typically give the coaches the benefit of the doubt, but I also filter it knowing how they are likely to answer. And having said that, I can understand why Jordon could be cynical of what the coaches say. Maybe we should give him the break we want him to give to the coaches.

            Good reply

          • Sooner Ray says:

Many of the friends in my social circle feel the same way Jordan does when it comes to coaches, and some of them are even coaches themselves. I don’t always agree with them but we’re still friends. People from other sites, especially LT, think it’s all sunshine and lollypops over here so I don’t think it hurts to have some different opinions from the brainiac group. Just my opinion. Some people are right until proven wrong, some are wrong until proven right. It all works out in the end.

          • ToatsMcGoats says:

You’re entitled to your opinion, but Jordan’s right. You’re not going to get any kind of real info out of either Stoops. Have you not listened to the Monday press conferences? These sources that you’re griping about have delivered much more insider info than either Stoops has.

          • Sooner Ray says:

My fork slipped and I got distain on my shirt. 🙂

          • John Garner says:

Wow BoomerDave! Count your blessings. You get a lot more info here than at the paysites. You even get video which I never see at OUInsider and more knowledgeable dialogue between visitors. No need to bash Jordan, or anyone for that matter. His sources can’t be any worse than those claimed at Rivals and OUI.

          • BoomerDave says:

I am thankful for the info I get from here. I get an equal amount from my pay site. Both are quite valuable. Just wish Jordan would acknowledge that there are other good sources for OU football info than just on here. I get it from talk radio and other OU sites. I hear lots of good interviews with recruits, commitments, signees and coaches. And yes I know that all the coaches do is lie and just use nothing but coach speak, but I enjoy the interviews anyway.

          • Jordan Esco says:

You totally got me. The number is zero. Of course unless I had some type of a truth serum I could trick them into taking prior to our conversation, I probably wouldn’t even bother in the first place.

And, fwiw, there is one guy in this market who has made a career out of getting his info from various OU coaches and I don’t think it’s a coincidence this person has a notorious reputation for being wrong. A lot.

You have your preferences, while I obviously have mine. If the coaches would be honest, I’d VERY much be on your side of things. They aren’t, however, so I’d rather get my info from individuals who don’t have a vested interest in always putting a positive message out no matter what even if they know it not to be true and/or likely.

But, again, I don’t want anything like facts to get in the way of things.

  • Brien Brown says:

A name I’d like to throw out there no pun intended since I am talking a bout a QB that I have seen some film on that I think would be a good fit is Peyton Ramsey, he is about 6’3 and weighs about 190 he is from Cincinnati, OH, has offers from, B.C., Buffalo, B.G., Cincinnati, Indiana, Miami of Ohio, and Eastern Michigan. So no real big names have offered that I have seen I believe Penn St. is looking at him. But take a look if I can find the link of him I’ll share but, nice looking QB prospect in my eyes.

  • Jordan Esco says:

    update added

random aside tho – what is that emoji supposed to be? wind (comes sweeping down the plains)?

  • Wilson says:

Trayveon Williams – I see above average, but I don’t see elite. Being multiple as RB is very important these days, but you must have the heart of a RB first…hope this is a consideration.
All backs must have a little beast mode style confidence…but like Jordan said…the “highlights are fairly old”. Just my observation on a limited sample size…

    • Sooner Ray says:

I thought the improvement from his freshman film to his Junior film was impressive. The coaches may be seeing a lot of upside in the kid.

      • Wilson says:

I agree. Can’t wait to see his senior film. At least he will be familiar with the OU base scheme. Hope he is a good kid.

    • CaptainHook says:

I am so over “beast mode.” Computer gamers need to keep their jargon to themselves.

That OT is so Heracleum mantegazzianum!!

  • Sooner Ray says:

I’m streaming the OKC animal, I don’t know how you OKC people listen to Jim and Al. Those guys hurt my ears……but it’s not like the Tulsa market is putting anything better out there. lol.

30 with 4″ of snow since 2PM here in Alabama.

      • akryan says:

I remember going to Alabama for Thanksgiving when i was a kid and it was like that though. Snowed everywhere in the south. Total opposite up here in AK. it was 47 today. All the snow is melting. The Iditarod is going to have to be rerouted this year.

Any news on a list of preferred walk-ons at Oklahoma?

  • Jake says:

Does the symbol next to Oklahoma on Gardners list man Oklahoma is windy? The coaches are windy? Blowing smoke?

  • Jeremy Phillips says:

    New LB offer…

@adamgorney: #Oklahoma has now offered four-star LB Bryce Youngquist, who shined at @RivalsCamp in Las Vegas this past weekend @JLMcCuistion

  • Defend Colfax says:

Somebody remind me again on why we (the BIGXII) missed out on Louisville? Hearing Houston bitch and moan about being included or not being included. Blah! The thought of adding another Texas school when we already have the Houston market makes me sick. Hopefully (after getting futt bucked by Baylor back to back years) OU and texas are smarter than that.

  • JD says:

Out of the blue here…anybody know how Archie Bradley is doing…hopefully baseball works out for him but if it didn’t then the diamondbacks would foot his bill for him to walkon and he signed here out of hs…not that I don’t have faith in the 4 on campus…between three 4star (6th rank) qbs and a 3star (not ranked) whom everyone thinks is the savior because of his ooc tech games and ou spring game…one or two of them should easily handle the air raid…..just thinking about Bradley

  • BleedCrimson says:

WBB: 30 sec left… tie game with #3 Baylor

  • Wilson says:

Dang it! I had to miss the end of the Baylor vs OU womens game! Congrats ladies…keep the momentum..

Not directly OU related, but good game between ISU and BU men… We could use a BU win to help us out…

  • SoonerSouthoftheRed says:

What’s that symbol behind OU on Gardners tweet?

  • BleedCrimson says:

MBB: TY Baylor… We just need to do our part and get 2 more wins

  • Chris White says:

Idk of this was said but I can’t help but imagine what Lincoln Riley could have done with Roy Finch…That guys career could have been a whole lot different

    • JD says:

Yeah I mentioned it earlier and also Brooks should be one to keep an eye on

    • DCinAZ says:

Doubt it. If he wouldn’t practice hard and learn the offense with Heupel, why would Riley get a different result?

      • akryan says:

because he would have been a way better fit in Riley’s offense. No one really knows what happened to him other than he fell behind other (pretty good) backs in the rotation.

  • Pat3332 says:

Just wondering, does Trayveon Williams remind anyone of Quentin Griffin?
