FOOTBALL (FREE)

Short answer is any easy ‘yes.’ But that’s contingent on you approaching it from the same standpoint of the people who would make that decision (i.e. $$$) and not that of a fan (i.e. “they wouldn’t win as much in the SEC).

  • kt-raida says:

On Realignment…I have to admit I love the Big 12 from year to year either the best or second best conference. Great rivalries, made since geographically, and History. I think we need at least 5 power conferences for parity if everyone is in just a power four where will all the things that made college football great go? I loved that we could argue about who has more conf. championships with an Ohio state fan but you lump all those great schools together and someones prestige will take a hit. Look at Nebraska those guys are irrelevant now and its sad. someone posted a big 12 conf. i would be all for by dropping WVU and adding Neb, A & M ,Mizzou, Colo, BYU .

    • Golfluvr13 says:

I truly believe that Nebraska chose poorly. As for A&M and MIzzou, good riddance. I do believe that when 2024 rolls around the Big 12 will be gone or on it’s death bed.

      • kt-raida says:

Me too, i hope not. Eventually everyone will be in one mega conference and they will have divisions by region and name the divisions the old conf. names. and if you win your division you play in the conference playoff and whoever wins that is conf/national champion

      • Katyboomer says:

        Here is my order

        1) Pac12 – I know late games and travel ( travel would be fun, we could get an even bigger pipeline to the cal players)
2a) BigG – only if we bring Texas or TCU with us ( Education, Would be nice to have a Texas school with us to help with Texas players)
2b) SEC- Great games ESPN hype ( Not for Education JK )
        4) ACC- just to far to travel with the places we would travel not being all that great.

        • Golfluvr13 says:

That Pac-12 would be my last resort. I think your 2a and 2b options are the only two real options that will be in OU’s favor. But we will see.

        • SoonerinLondon says:

I’m with you, but I don’t care about bringing Texas schools with us. (I think KU is the best bet to bring along.)

We would continue the OU/Texsa game, which would keep the recruiting pipeline going.

          • Katyboomer says:

If we could continue the OU/UT game then I am with you. I do think the OU/UT package as much as I hate to say it would bring a lot more $ and competition to any conf.

          • Boom says:

Well, if we were in another conf than UT, playing them would not only be a rivalry game but now pitting one conf against the other. I like it.

      • Rick says:

Without realignment B12 is dead, with it, the networks have to go to commercial twice as often and twice as long. Something’s got to give.

      • cush creekmont says:

Hey Golf! Well, without those schools, I sure don’t like the 12-4+2. texsa is the only long standing “name” school. Their arrogance is boundless and their football quality is sad.

Boren wants BI6, which I would take. If he sticks OUr school with a lengthened GoR, I will no longer support him.

        • Golfluvr13 says:

Morning Cush! I agree. I do not want to see OU get stuck with a longer GOR and be stuck in a conference with only middle of the road schools.

    • Dick Bump says:

Those were the good ole days, looking back on it. Would have been better if the rest of the conference had told Texas to Sit Down and STFU.

  • metzker says:

We would just be another member in the SEC Bull fing shi@$#%%.Id welcome the challenge, tougher than the b12 maybe maybe not.I think we would dam sure make it tougher on them also IMHO.

    • Scott says:

      Tell em metz.

    • SoonerSpock says:

No question we would make it tougher on them and they in turn on us. The problem is the OU fandom’s willingness to accept winning 5-7 division championships and 3-5 conference championships every 20 years. Alabama which has had the top recruiting class in the country the last 5 years but has won only 7 divisional championships and 5 conference titles in the last 20 years. They are followed by Florida with 7 divisional and 4 conference championships 1996-2015. Championships don’t come easily in the SEC and they will not come any easier for the Sooners as a member of the SEC. It is what it is

    • Double G says:

Sometimes I feel like all this OU shOUldn’t go to the $EC talk is done on purpose so that THEY don’t have to try and compete with US.
After the 2013 Sugar Bowl win over the $EC’s crown jewel and last year’s “Miracle at Rocky Top” I think they are afraid to play OUr boys on an annual basis.
In fact, I bet that Paul Finebaum, Nick Saban, and every $EC loving sports media broadcaster are laying down on the leather sofas that line E$ECpin’s network psychologist’s office blubbering about how they can’t sleep at night because visions of Bob Stoops and Lincoln Riley roaring across the plains in the Sooner Schooner are haunting their dreams and the eternal notes of “BOOMER SOONER” are still thundering in their ears!!!

Just my take on things, but then again I am a rabid OU fan, so what do I know? Playing in the $EC wOUld be challenging, but I think we wOUld win more often than a lot of people wOUld expect us to. Thanks to a few down years, some people have forgotten how exceptional of a football program OU truly is, but I don’t see OU being afraid of the challenge.

  • DR LEO MARVIN says:

Big ten would be more fun than the SEC.

    • D Hunter Sanchez says:

I think we would dominate like in the Big 12 along with OSU. Most of those teams can run the ball, but do lack a passing games. MS’ defense handles those offenses.

  • Hotrod33 says:

I have asked this question before and haven’t received an answer maybe one of you all know. Who are the early enrollees of the 17 class?? I know a few was mentioned before and if we land Okudah he would be I believe, but does anyone know who out of the ones already committed.

A great big ol’ ‘What up?’ to the Brainiacs, the faniacs, and to all the Sooner faithful. Football Hype Month 2016 is upon us, and life is starting to look a little less sucktastic.

And screw Charlie Strong. Listened to an interview with him on XM. His speech is as clumsy as his career.

Tip of the day: make fun of a Texsa fan today. Always puts me in a good mood.

  • SamSooner says:

Good morning, TFB Family. How about that BOOM! yesterday, huh?

Jordan, if you’re going to post Trotter’s OU to the $EC article, you have to post your tweets to him, also. That was some rich and savory bantering you had going on yesterday.

Those of us who are non-tweeters need to get the full experience. So, where are those tweets from yesterday?

    Speaking of tweets: ICYMI: https://twitter.com/TheJeffOkudah/status/758840195936423936

    • SoonerMagic76 says:

I really enjoyed the back and forth for JE and Trotter

    • Golfluvr13 says:

      Morning Sam!

      • SamSooner says:

        Morining, Golf!

        How are things in Kansas?

        • Golfluvr13 says:

Muggy! We have had a very unusual summer with high humidity and lots of rain. About 5 years ago the Sahara desert received an inch more rain than we did. That is how dry we had been. Now, everything is green again.
          How’s Ohio?

          • SamSooner says:

We’re at 80 right now. It’s been cooling off in the evening; so, we’ve been sitting on the front porch a lot.

      • 47 Straight OU Know says:

Golf, seen you been around a lot more lately.

    • Oscar says:

I was praying that I just get thru college! LOL

    • Jordan Esco says:

As I told K y’day, if I was smart I would have actually made a post out of the whole thing/my thoughts on the situation. But it also would have probably been like 10k words by the time I was done w/ it and made both all of you and myself want to blow our brains out by the end.

But ultimately the main take away, as I think I’ve proved well beyond a shadow of a doubt at this point, is that I’m not smart πŸ™‚

      • cush creekmont says:

Hide your “smarts” so you too can get a high-paying sportscaster job (or political commentator) – they seem to have an inverse IQ test requirement.

      • SamSooner says:

Jordan, we appreciate you and your passion for OU football and OU sports. Those quick jabs were coming at a furious pace. I remember thinking: Trotter, I hope you have experience as a sparring partner because you are getting punched, something furious.

I haven’t hit Metz that hard in the kidneys. Sorry Metz; a baseline has been established. I’m not meeting the minimum requirements. I have work to do.

        • cush creekmont says:

Remember Sam, Metz is nowhere near as bad as Trotter! And Metz is one-of-ours! Just try not to leave bruises….

          • SamSooner says:

You mean I have pull my punches?

Metz, you’re a lucky duck. But you’re still on probation.

          • cush creekmont says:

It’s the humane thing to do – remember the poor guy lives in Lubbock and has to pull sand ticks and sand aggies out of his yard.

          • SamSooner says:

I see your point. I’ll be kinder…, somewhat.

      • SoonerOracle737 says:

I thought you had good responses to Trotter on Twitter. It was obvious to me that you had spent a lot more time thinking about it than Trotter.

      • 47 Straight OU Know says:

J, Maybe you all could start a post section for us non-twits. So that we could see all of the back and forth’s. Just a thought.

      • Mark_in_VA says:

I don’t think you even need a money-only argument. Would anyone here say, “Well, the XII is cool because we usually win, but wouldn’t it be even better if we joined the Sunbelt so we could win virtually every game and never lose the conference? Wow!” Yes, I understand you need the path to the NC too, for which the XII at least leaves the door cracked. But the season isn’t *just* getting the trophy. Having great matchups, in exciting environments, is a huge part of the joy of the season.

And during those years where we did run the gauntlet and win the SEC–and don’t even pretend like it won’t happen–then we are in the catbird’s seat for the NC. No doubt we’re in the playoff, and we will be far more battle-tested than we are coming out of the XII. To me, no small part of 2000’s success was the stiff competition we faced that year from Nebbish, KSU (twice), and A&M. That hardened us into a lethal machine. The other years we made it to the NC game, the XII was soft, and when we ran into a gristly opponent, we simply were not prepared.

I would gladly accept 1-2 more losses/year on average (I think that’s realistically what we’re talking about) for the tremendous games, boost it would bring to our recruiting, and the ruthless machine we would be in the post season on those years we did win it.

        • SamSooner says:

          Mark, great post.

I think any offense in the $EC, that has teeth, can win the $EC. Look at how inept Lester’s team are offensively but he was still in the thick of things. That doesn’t even take into account of his mismanagement of timeouts and bad play calling.

OU has teeth and will bite you. And for the first time in a long time, this defense can be wickedly good.

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

He seems to be a pretty wise kid. I respect that.

    • Mark_in_VA says:

Switzer can make up for his mistake with Earl Campbell. Send him up to hide under his bed and give him a sign! lol

      • SamSooner says:

I read that book. It was funny when I read that.

        • Mark_in_VA says:

Switzer is as awesome for the hilarious things he did and said, as he is for being arguably the greatest coach in OU history. His stories are just genuinely so entertaining, especially the way he tells them.

        • Drew says:

What’s the story here? Sorry, I’m young.

    • DrewChubbs says:

We all pray he does too. But then, we KNOW here is what will be best for him!

  • SoonerMagic76 says:

I understand our backup QB has never seen a second of college ball, but how on earth can you put OU’s QB situation as the 5th best in the country?????

    • Collin says:

Excuse me while I go throw up.

      • Spitting Bull says:

It doesn’t get much more pathetic then that.

        • Double G says:

When you can’t make it past the #2 point on yOUr list and have to start talking abOUt non-football related things in order to justify why yOUr football team is better than OU football you’ve:
          1) Failed to make yOUr point.
          2) Proven that yOUr team is, in fact, inferior to OU football
          3) Made yOUr list too long in a desperate attempt to boost yOUr own self worth and as we all know “desperation is a stinky cologne”.

    • SamSooner says:

      Good morning, Bull.

If I played in over 105 games, at home, I wouldn’t broadcast that I’ve lost 44 of them.

      • Spitting Bull says:

Morning Sam. The guy that wrote this is probably no whorn. I mean, could anybody ask to be abused any more than that guy? Like I said under his article. You can have the tower, mascot and network. We’ll take the Championships. That’s why we play the game!

    • Slim Sooner says:

Written by a whorn on crack. Everybody knows TWO furry horses with manhood intact trumps one castrated bull. Duh!

      • cush creekmont says:

Right Slim! But I always think of the texsa mascot as future BBQ rather than the cow-pie machine that represents the ugly orange of texsa.

    • Birddawg says:

      8) Oklahoma is synonymous of winning!

  • metzker says:

What is the story on the ND transfer?

    • Oscar says:

All I can find on him is that he was suspended at ND, had been recruited by Cooks, is from DFW area. 6’5″. I did not see anywhere a description of his playing ability or athletic assets. Maybe an old recruiting service bio will help.

    • Jordan says:

Pretty much a consensus 4* from The Colony (suburb of Dallas). Had offers from ND, the good guys, Arkansas, Oregon, Cal, Ole Miss + several others. 6’5″ 252 lbs according to 247. Suspended by ND, according to my father-in-law (avid ND fan) it was for being late to meetings because he never got any PT. Could be a nice pick-up if he has the right attitude.

    • Malicong says:

He was a 4* guy out of high school. I haven’t heard much since. Great build, good at the point of attack. Not elite athletically but pretty good. Ran a 4.75 40 at 6’5″ and approx 250lbs. Has potential.

  • SoonerMagic76 says:

ESPN story on transfers who could make a difference this year. Trevor Knight at #3, Geno Lewis at #9

    http://www.espn.com/college-football/insider/story/_/id/17247221/cal-golden-bears-davis-webb-leads-transfers-impact-college-football-season

    • cush creekmont says:

Have to see how it plays out, but not a lot of talk has come out about Lewis so far. Goodness though, with aggie QB situation I’m surprised Knight is not #1 with a bullet.

      • SoonerinLondon says:

I hope TKPK6 can get over his nerves. He’s a great kid, with great talent, but that sphincter really seizes-up on him.

        • cush creekmont says:

Yeah, hard to figure. His Sugar Bowl might have been one of those “everything goes right” nights and he peaked with it…
A little like golf, when I shot 76 a few years back followed by high 80s after it πŸ™‚

          • SoonerMagic76 says:

That Sugar Bowl performance was incredible. Goes up there with some of the biggest questions ever.

            – “Who shot JFK?”
            – “Is Elvis dead?”
            – “What in the world did the coaches give/ tell Trevor Knight before that game???”

          • cush creekmont says:

Short term “alien body invasion,” or maybe it was the ghost of Johnny Unitas that took over.

          • Drew says:

Maybe Manziel did enough drugs that night that he was able to control Knight’s actions?

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

And, last but not least “What happened to the Doobie Brothers?”.

          • SoonerinLondon says:

            DB Cooper, too.

    • Walter Sobcek says:

Geno is going to make things happen.

    • Dick Bump says:

I didn’t realize we go to UCLA in 2019. That should be fun…especially for the Cali Sooners.

  • Oscar says:

From Campus Rush: “Imagine Warren Buffett not buying a stock for his portfolio because it may make too much money. Imagine a Major League Baseball general manager not promoting a player because he could outperform an established one. Imagine a college admissions office not taking a candidate because they might outsmart the other students.

Those scenarios are being bandied around in the Big 12 right now, as the league discusses admitting the University of Houston as an expansion candidate. Only a conference as shortsighted as the Big 12 would consider Houston’s vast football potential as an argument against bringing it into the league. Even for a conference long defined by schools ignoring the conference’s greater good, the discussion around Houston is stunningly myopic”

    ATH – 1
    P – 1

    S – 1
    CB – 2
    LB – 1
