I can’t believe Berry Tramel still has a job.

  • paganpink says:

BOOMER! How funny is the Texas A and M scheduling Texas to get a cupcake on their schedule bit? Although the animosity is so deep between them that the aggies left the conference and Texas has been a mess ever since.

    • SamSooner says:

They took the opportunity to get a dig in. I guess gig’em, verbally and physically, is what I’m looking for.

    • 47 Straight OU Know says:

      SOONER!!!

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

      SOONER!

It’s funny, but the Ags still haven’t beaten anyone so they should keep their mouth shut until they do

      • Matt says:

Seriously! I mean they beat OU and Bama one year and they needed the freakin Heisman winner to do it! Now they think they’re the best program in the country. I would love for OU to play them every year just so we could go back to shutting them up. I would also love to see them play Baylor every year because they hate Baylor and totally disrespect the big 12 for letting Baylor be the top of the conference but if they actually played, Baylor would run for a 1000 yards on them.

        • Soonerfandave84 says:

I’m interested to see how they fare against LSU, Ole Miss and Bama. Do well then they can talk if not, it’s just piling on UT(which is fun for everyone though)

          • Matt says:

I think they beat Bama but lose to Ole Miss and possibly LSU.

          • Soonerfandave84 says:

Yeah Bama isn’t geared to stop the spread and I think the Kirk kid for the ags will be a superstar

          • Oscar says:

That’s because Saban is still hoping that he can get the spread ruled illegal before the end of the season.

        • Bill Holder says:

From what I have seen of the Farmers ( Son is a big fan so I keep up with them for arguing points ), we would be well served not to schedule them. They are no longer your basic 77-0 push over, and won’t be as long as Kevin Sumlin is at the helm. Many tend to forget the beat down they put on us last time we met. Are we skeered of them? Heck no!, but it’s best we steer clear for awhile til we get a D-C that has a clue.

          • Matt says:

yeah..Mike Stoops has a clue. They lost 59-0 last year to Bama. They beat OU when they had the Heisman winner. I’d take our guys and Mike over them any day they don’t Johnny Football on the field.

          • Matt says:

I’m betting you think the solution to our defensive problems is press coverage.

    • Matt says:

in reality though, UT has never viewed A&M as their rival. Almost all UT fans will tell you they really don’t respect A&M enough to care about them as a rival. Thats a totally one-sided hate, it all comes from A&M I mean they made their ENTIRE fight song about UT. UT really only considers OU a rival historically.

    • EasTex says:

This year’s Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine, the cover art and story is about renewing the Texsa-gAggie rivalry.

As a Texan I disagree with this sentiment, but then I have zero affection for either school’s athletic accomplishments.

  • 47 Straight OU Know says:

IMO, I am hoping with “BOZ” being in attendance it light’s a fire under these LB’s. And then the rest of the defense feeds off of that.

I used to see him around Norman all the damn time. He is a super friendly guy. Never have stopped him and talked to him of course but he always smiles and waves. Man should be president.

          • 47 Straight OU Know says:

Met him when I was 12. He came bye to see my buddy’s dad who was in the hospital. Very talkative and has a swagger like none I’ve ever seen to this day. But of course I was only 12.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

I met him when I was 13. It was at an OU/KU game in Lawrence, KS (in the 80s). It was in the second half and OU was destroy KU, JC Watts was at the game and came over to talk to me, eventually Keith Jackson and a couple of others came over to talk and Barry walked by and stopped to talk for about 2 minutes. It was a hey, Sooner fan up here? Good keep it up, smiling the whole time. (He had been hiding smoking a cig). LOL!

          • 47 Straight OU Know says:

There were some games he probably went through a couple packs. Especially against Osborne, JoPaw and Jimmy.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

Oh yeah, I’m sure. This wasn’t one of them. I think OU was up 31 – 0 at halftime. I got a ton of autographs that day. It was a great day for me as a teenager. There were a bunch of kids from my middle school there (I lived in Topeka, KS at the time) and they were all KU fans and were shocked when the players came over to talk to me. I was walking on clouds I tell ya!

          • 47 Straight OU Know says:

That’s cool. Reminds me of when Jamelle and Charles would come to the neighborhood school on sundays and play with us kids during are neighborhood football games. They both QB’d on opposite teams. Was and still am a huge Jamelle Holieway and Charles Thompson fan.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

I always liked Jamelle and Charles.

          • 47 Straight OU Know says:

Still to this day brings a smile to Charles face every time he sees me. Actually used to help watch Kendall when he was a baby. Very athletic family, was very upset when Kendall left. But hey there’s another one right around the corner.

          • Stephen Dale says:

a simpler, more gentle time……..what memories that group provided….

    • Fear The Magic says:

They should put his top 10 hits/plays up on the jumbotron just before kickoff.

      • 47 Straight OU Know says:

That would get the players and the fans fired up. And that is definitely something we need for the early game.

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

JE, your post about Tramel is funny. He said this yesterday on the Animal. OSU was protecting their deficit to Texas.

Sure he meant they were trying not to fall further behind, but his wording had me rolling.(which is not safe when driving)

    • Malicong says:

He said that Monday as well. He actually meant it in a negative way. He called out Gundy for throwing in the towel and running up the middle for 1-2 yards over and over instead of trying to win with his so called “great” QB. Basically the usual little brother over-raters (is that a word?) acknowledged that OSU was exceptionally lucky to win that game.

      • SoonerOracle737 says:

Yeah, I heard that. It was sarcasm directed at Gundy for “protecting the deficit” by running it up the middle in second half. But, if the coaches felt like they couldn’t throw it with either QB then who am I to disagree? Both teams suck, and it was on full display in the second half.

  • Philip Capeheart says:

I think I’d still take the over in the Baylor/Tech game

  • Ed Cotter says:

I was intrigued to read the article on the dominant WVU offense, until I read the article and it was about their dominant “YAWN” defense. [Facepalm]

  • Zack says:

My guess is trammel, kersey, and the usual anti-ou media guys will pick wvu this weekend. While Desmond Howard will be the only college gameday guy to pick wvu.

  • Golfluvr13 says:

Holy cow! I read that article on Hoiberg and ISU and I have to say the Cyclone’s AD blew it big time! Sounds like he was wanting varsity money for the school, but only willing to spend JV money on the team and travel. I can understand now why Hoiberg left so quickly, especially knowing how much he was loved by the Cyclone fans and how great of a job he did for ISU.

  • EasTex says:

The gAggie Regent that made the facebook post about Texsa as a cupcake is also the same person that started the billboard campaign to try and get the Houston Texans to draft Miley Football a few years ago.

  • Jason Vos says:

Seeing a lot of headlines out there that go, what does OU have to do to beat West VIrginia?

Really what does OU have to do? Where is the respect for the home team or the higher ranked team.

WVU is good don’t get me wrong, but what does OU have to do to beat WVU is just mind boggling to me

    • Matt says:

according to SB Nation, they (WVU) don’t have a pass rush. I don’t see that working out well for them.

  • Jason Vos says:

They blitz a lot. As long as the Oline can handle the blitz, Baker Mayfield should shred that D

  • holieway4ou says:

I loved that 1985 National Championship team. Holieway, Boz, Casillas, Lydell Carr, Anthony Stafford, Spenser Tillman, Keith Jackson, Darrel Reed, Derrick Shepard, Troy Johnson, David Vickers, Mark Hutson, Anthony Phillips. Awesome defense, incredible wishbone offense. It’s hard to believe that was 30 years ago. I’m officially OLD.

  • Malicong says:

I am getting really tired of all the WVU hype. They have beaten some really bad teams. I don’t care what Georgia Southern and Libery have done, THEY ARE GEORGIA SOUTHERN AND LIBERTY. They have, at best, one or two guys that could even make an active roster for OU. Maryland is one of the worst P5 teams around this year (I almost said the worst then immediately thought of Kansas and Vandy).

  • SoonerOracle737 says:

WVU will probably load the box and have a full arsenal of blitz packages to see if Baker Mayfield can beat them. I think it comes down to our O Line & RB protection handling their aggressive defense to give Baker time to get it out to what should be man-to-man coverage on all of our wideouts. Would it make sense for us to go mainly to 4 & 5 wides and wear out their talented, but not deep secondary? I think we have a close game first half, but in second half we wear them down in both passing and running game and pull away. Something like 45-31 OU. Of course, CFB games are highly unpredictable so most anything can happen. But that is my best guess.

    • ouwooferman says:

      Good post. I got OU 48 – 27.

    • JJSoona says:

The big danger in “loading the box”, once a guy like Perine or Mixon get past the LOS……….its over. The other danger is the slant across the middle. C U later.

  • Jason Vos says:

The Maryland QB that threw 4 int’s against WVU, had thrown 3 int’s the previous week vs South Florida. And 2 int’s in 2 passes the week b4 that.

    • paganpink says:

Some perspective that is important in not labeling the couch burners defense as world beaters, for sure. Thanks.

    • tfb_fortyseven says:

Thanks for this. The Terps lost at home to BGSU 48-27, the week after BGSU lost to Tennessee. They managed to whip poor ol’ Richmond in the first game of the season, and they beat the South Florida team 35-17 at Maryland … S. Florida threw 2 INTs that day. The Maryland QB threw 1 INT vs Richmond, and 3 INTs vs BGSU. Amazing that the Maryland offense has thrown 11 INTs after only 4 games. Regardless, I still believe Mayfield will have his toughest test of the season (so far?) on Saturday … the opponents are averaging 3 INTs per game even though they haven’t really played anyone.

      • Sooner 76 says:

That Randy Edsell is quite the coach. Totally classless the way he left UConn. I was appalled that they hired him instead of Mike Leach.

    • BoomerDave says:

And to think Dax Garman is 3rd or 4th string QB at Maryland, Just goes to show how bad OSU was at QB last year before turning to Rudolph.

  • SamSooner says:

Let every a** out there that think they know a lick about football, OU specifically, continue to pick against our boys. I believe this team is at its best when they feel they have something to prove. Once these boys get locked in the rest of the world can jump on the wagon but it’ll be too late: these boys will run rough shod over everyone else. I don’t think OU will care if it’s Kansas, or anyone for that matter, will be able to stop them from scoring 80+ points. If there are points to be scored, I want this team go after it just to prove a point. They’ve been shooting themselves in the foot but that’ll end soon. When it does, I’d hate to be on the other side.

I see little snippets that tell me this team is getting better. It’s only a matter of time.

    • RBear says:

      Rough shod, love it.

    • SoonerOracle737 says:

I keep waiting for the (offensive) floodgates to open against a good team. It could happen at any moment. You can just feel it coming.

      • sooner4ever says:

The big concern is that they haven’t opened it up yet, and the O-line really needs a big game against a good opponent. Once they have that, their confidence will grow exponentially. Until then, they’re still not sure how good they can be, and seem to lack that swagger that you have when you know you’re good.

If we hadn’t played Tulsa b4 this game I’d be worried. But after the defensive exposure we received vs Tulsa, I believe the defense has refocused during the bye week.

And will play lights out vs WVU. I’m guessing something like 35 – 24 OU
