– Team News: As you’ll recall from this past weekend’s Open Post, we told you about an issue regarding a potential “violation of team rules” involving a number of OU players. Since that report, we had the opportunity to follow up with a source to see if there had been any new developments.
Our source was not able to provide any specific names, but did give the distinct impression any potential suspensions — for the 2015 season opener versus Akron — could be fairly significant. Even going so far as to say it could be upwards of 10 or more players.
Now it bears repeating we’re still four months away from said season opener, so things are far from finalized with regards to any possible suspensions. By the time September rolls around, Bob Stoops could have doled out the necessary punishment/s any number of different ways. So, in theory, the number of players held out of that Akron game could be as few as one or two (if any).
The issue here, in early May, isn’t necessarily the number of players facing a possible suspension for the 2015 season opener. It’s that the issue here was evidently significant enough the coaching staff recognized it and have responded in a swift and thorough manner.
– UPDATE (1:26 pm): Sooners appear to have offered 2016 LB Elysee Mbem-Bosse (6’1″ 228 – Ellenwood, GA).

Every team has their off season issues. As long as these suspensions if any does not run into the Tennessee game, then it shouldn’t be too much of a problem
I hope you are right. Definitely don’t want them out the TN game. Only thing I don’t like is that usually the biggest rust is shaken off between the 1st and 2nd games played each year. TN will be hard enough to beat w/o having too many guys trying to get back into game playing mode. I don’t think scrimmages do that. Coaches never let you truly go all out in scrimmages. I just hope that it’s not a ton of starters.
Correct, I would hate for some starters to see their first live action against Tenn.
Positive thinking: may all the violators be walk-ons and scout-teamers!!!
Depends. If it’s a bunch of guys that play major snaps, and especially guys that need some experience before a big road game at Tennessee, missing the Akron game could be huge.
It’s a problem if it’s one player on the scout team. Rules are rules. You agree to the rules when you sign the Letter of Intent, accept the scholly & enroll at the University. And especially when you are granted the right to wear Crimson and Cream.
I had hoped the team would be policing themselves better. It starts with player leadership, not with BS. They need to be focused on being the best they can, and that means keeping their act together on all the little things.
Here’s hoping absolutely no team leaders were involved.
Shame on those guys. Shame. Shaaaaaaame. >:(
update added
kid has some impressive film
My question is what kind of team rule did they violate? I hate the reality but understand that our culture has a huge tolerance of pot. So that I could see that as the violation but what I am really afraid of is that several players in a effort to get back to their winning ways have all huddled up and started taking PEDs. If it is POT then suspension stuff will not very heavy and may not happen. IF it is PEDs then we could see a bigger issue with the start of the season.
If you read Friday’s initial report (assuming you haven’t already), I think you’ll have too much trouble putting 2 + 2 together.
Thanks Jordan I will check it out. Really do appreciate this site more than ever. I am living in Massachusetts now and there is 0 college football culture here so this site keeps me updated perfectly.
we appreciate you reading!
Unless you’re high. Then adding 2 + 2 isn’t as easy as you might think.
touche
As I have stated on another board if the players saw B Stoops smoking a little rope durning half time of the OSU game, they probably thought it was no big deal.
Now I don’t have 1st hand knowledge of this but it would sure explain a lot…”Set the bong down BS and let your Special Teams coach handle this call.”
4+2+0
lets just say that the team rule is not an illegal activity in the state of Colorado
Lol Steve. Nice
I wonder if players for the University in Boulder are allowed to partake in said non-illegal activities?
While Colorado “legalized” it in theory, it is still a violation of federal law.
i bet youre a lot of fun at parties.
I was in the same fraternity at OU as several OU athletes (mostly football players). I learned that the vast majority of the time when the coach says a player’s been suspended for “violating team rules” that meant they tested positive for a controlled substance. Granted, that was the Gary Gibbs era, but I doubt much has changed.
Violent linebacker there. I like it. Sign him up.
He reminded me a lot of a instate kid named jimmy McKinney so I watched mbem-bosse highlights and then watched McKinney highlights and I might get burned for this but I like McKinney better and I like mbem-bosse highlights I would love for him to play for ou but I feel McKinney was the better of the two and ou as far as I know are not recruiting him but this is all just my 2 cents.
To me the Mbembosse kid looked taller. He didn’t seem to be as fast as McKinney who had a 5.2 40. they both looked like big hitters. Seemed to be a pic-em.
I’m not a Winston fan. However, he blew off ESPN due to their coverage of him. The NFL network & ESPN flip interviewing the #1 pick. This year, it was ESPN’s turn to be the 1st to interview the #1 pick. Winston’s camp blew off eSECpn which pissed them off. Afterwords, Winston said, I like ESPN and look forward to interviews with them. Hope this happens more with guys that aren’t in the eSECpn.
I don’t blame him.
So does DGB regret declaring for the draft after going in the 2nd round?
I heard he cried
Haha sources confirm??
Like he had been pushed down some stairs??
Or like he’d been caught with car full of weed and cocaine? (Sorry, couldn’t resist.)
Too close to people making violence jokes at Joe Mixon’s expense for my comfort, but that’s just me.
No offense intended whatsoever, guys. You’re on my “like” list. 😉
Probably not.
I wish I could remember who it was on this board that basically said I was an idiot when I said that DGB had virtually no chance of being a first round draft pick if he didn’t play a season at OU because of his baggage. He needed a good trouble-free season on the field to help NFL teams forget his transgressions. I said DGB wouldn’t go in the top 10 and likely would fall as far as the second round. I guess I wasn’t so far off base after all 😉
I don’t believe Bob sets these suspensions. I believe they are set by the school’s athletic department policy. Everyone always talks like it is Bob’s decision, but I think it comes from the Compliance Department.
You could very well be correct……too bad all Universities don’t have the same policy.
I think the NCAA, while they are deregulating somewhat with the Power 5 conferences, ought to make mandatory rules regarding issues such as these that ALL schools have to follow so the SEC has to suspend players for meaningful games. I’d also like to see them impose mandatory suspensions for these types of offenses and require players to sit out the following game after a flunked drug test so the SEC can’t string along their “investigation” and announce their “findings” and suspensions for the meaningless game vs the I-AA opponent.
*cough* I never inhaled *cough*
hopefully its just that and not PED
I’m torn. While both are bad for a scholarship athlete where rules are concerned, I’ve never heard of a law enforcement officer taking someone to jail for being under the influence of PED’s.
Anabolic steroids are a Schedule 3 CDS, and possession of them is a federal offense. Typically, the cops target suppliers/manufacturers, but you could always be that unlucky soul who gets busted for personal use. When a person would likely be arrested for them is when the steroids (vials, bottles, syringes) are observed in a car during a traffic stop for a traffic offense.
Of course I inhaled, that’s the point.
Elysee, dude is so bosse.
