Open Post | Monday, Nov. 16th (UPDATE 3:28 pm)

Marcel Southall, Chris Daniels and Diron Reynolds: 2016 DTs, Marcel Southall (Duncansville, TX) and Chris Daniels (Euless, TX) will be visiting OU this weekend for the TCU game. One of the things we talk about a lot is the run-pass conflicts that teams like Baylor create. This makes the defensive line play critical and you all saw the Sooners defensive line play very well the other night. Diron Reynolds has not only done a good job coaching up the defensive line but his coaching and sideline demeanor is exceptionally calm. Who wouldn’t want to play for a coach like that?

Both Daniels and Southall have already visited OU before and last I spoke to Southall’s father he said they came away very impressed with Diron Reynolds for the very reasons mentioned above. OU may very well lead for Southall but his father tells me that they still a few more visits to take after this upcoming trip: Florida, Ole Miss and Nebraska. Daniels and his family are also very high on Oklahoma and this will be Daniels only second official trip. He took his first to Michigan.

Neither Southall or Reynolds are expected to announce anytime soon but they’ve remained so high on the Sooners throughout, that the Sooners could really secure the lead this coming weekend. – (Super K)

Briston Guidry: 2016 DT and Arkansas commit, Briston Guidry (Metaire, LA) was being recruited by Jerry Montgomery before he departed. He is now apparently being recruited by coach Diron Reynolds. I spoke to a source close to Guidry who said that Reynolds reached out to Guidry recently and re-confirmed the OU offer. I’m told that Guidry may be looking around and the source told me that a visit to OU at some point before signing day was very likely. – (Super K)

Devwah Whaley: I am still working to confirm whether 2016 RB Devwah Whaley will take his scheduled official visit to Oklahoma this weekend for the TCU game. I spoke to a source regarding Whaley’s recruitment and was told that he is down to Georgia, Arkansas and Texas. No mention was made of Oklahoma. Once I’m able to confirm whether Whaley will or won’t make it this weekend I’ll update the site. – (Super K)

Baron Browning: 2017 star LB and Baylor commit, Baron Browning (Kennedale, TX) tells me that he is trying to make it to the Oklahoma vs. TCU game this weekend. Browning is committed to Baylor but I’m told he’s considering other options and with OU’s defense surging, there’s little doubt that they’ve caught his attention. – (Super K)

Kary Vincent: Another 2017 target certainly interested in OU is DB Kary Vincent (Port Arthur, TX). Vincent already holds offers from Baylor and Oklahoma State. He began communicating with Oklahoma recently and has been told to call them this week. It sounds like an offer may happen. Vincent tells me he was at the OU vs. Baylor game and OU couldn’t have made a better impression. The Sooners are obviously still working on their 2016 class but with Texas down (and to some degree even TAMU) and OU starting to re-impose it’s will on the Big 12, 2017 Texas prospects are starting to take notice. – (Super K)

– UPDATE (1:00 pm): Preliminary visitor list for this coming weekend.

– UPDATE (2:24 pm): We’re aware of the Keshawn Harris news and are working to confirm.

– UPDATE (3:01 pm): At least as of now, it is our understanding the Keshawn Harris commitment it not legitimate. Still not entirely sure of all the details, kind of a weird deal. Should anything change we’ll definitely update you, but as of right now there has been no official ‘boom’ of which to speak.

– UPDATE (3:28 pm): Not sure this really even needs to be said, but if for no other reason than full disclosure. No one here at TFB is in any way calling this young man a liar. Rather we can only go on what we have been told, which is what you see above.

Did Striker, Have any words of wisdom for the commits at the Baylor game?

  • Brad Warren says:

That was obvious targeting when baylor player knocked off Joe’s helmet on play near end of 3rd qtr. Wasn’t even mentioned on telecast.

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

Yeah, that was an easy call

    • Cav66 says:

Let’s see, a player launches himself headfirst and knocks the other players helmet completely off his head. What possible penalty does that resemble?

    • Daryl says:

It was also not mentioned when a player ripped off Nila’s helmet, but when a helmet came off a baylor player it was immediately pointed out that it could not have happened on its own and OU should be receiving a penalty.
LOL Fowler was not a OU fan Saturday for sure. I didn’t think he was super terrible about it, but he wasn’t on our side for sure.

    • Rick says:

It was quite a collision too, the helmet came off and the strap attached to his mouthpiece was hooked to his face guard and the mouthpiece was still in his mouth.

  • SoonerGoneEast says:

I’m sure Whaley is keeping an eye on the Richt and Strong coaching situation. There’s a chance both of these guys are gone come December.

The only thing that may save Richt is the competition for head coaching candidates this year is going to be ridiculous. We’ll likely see 20% of the FBS programs make a change at the top this season either by choice or by force.

With it being a sellers market this year for coaches, Jimmy Sexton may encourage Strong to leave now if he doesn’t feel secure at Texas or feels things may not work out long-term. His stock likely won’t be any higher next year than it is today.

  • Lincoln Hawk says:

Is it feasible that OU stopped recruiting Whaley?

    • Exiled In Ohio says:

I was guessing Whaley didn’t like his fit with the air raid. I mean, Samaje only got 166 yards this weekend. But seriously, as OU rushing totals improve (as the OL improves), we should start getting more attention from the top backs.

It could be that OU knows something about qualifying or character, but most likely Whaley is the one who backed off.

      • Lincoln Hawk says:

All good points, just seems odd that at one point we were basically the leader and now not even on the radar even though we are in better standing (national perception, ranking etc)now than we were at that time. But, they are just young kids and things change.

      • L'Carpetron Dookmarriot says:

        Indeed. Only 166 yards.

    • Malicong says:

I think it has more to do with the recruit than it does the school. I have been reading that he is now possibly a Arkansas lean. I think he is looking for the best running school with the least amount of competition in front of him. That is not OU at all. He would be fortunate if he saw the field for more than a handful of plays before 2018 in Norman.

  • Shelby is a Patriot says:

No doubt OU made a big impression on Kary Vincent, he had Baylor winning 42-28: http://baylor.247sports.com/Article/BearsTruth-Recruiting-Prediction-Thread-Baylor-vs-Oklahoma–41041686

    • Bob Edwards says:

A lot of fail in that article.

      • Exiled In Ohio says:

What else could a recruit say? If they are interested in BU and BU asks them to predict the game, the smarter among the recruits go with the party line.

    • Daryl says:

No one picked OU. WOW. That just shows you how badly OU needs to win out. They need to show that they can win again, because players are not buying it right now.

      • Exiled In Ohio says:

Take the same poll on Saturday for our TCU visitors. All the OU recruits would pick OU.

      • Steve says:

theyre on an official visit to BAylor, being asked by a Baylor recruiting website. wtf do you think theyre gonna say?

      • Malicong says:

It is entirely possible that some did pick OU but they didn’t publish those responses. The list shown was not every visitor Saturday. Still, take it with a grain of salt. For some reason Baylor and their future kind think they have won multiple national championships and have been on top for decades. They still are having a hard time understanding that OU is the better team.

    • Kyle says:

      Wow, JP Urquidez, 80-0.

    • jproz says:

The predictions by their recruiting class: wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong….and wrong. This JP Urquidez character….does he have an offer from OU? If he does, can we let him know we ‘picked’ him wrong and he doesn’t any longer. And if he doesn’t have one already, can we just give him a call and let him know we will never give him one! He does not have OUr DNA.

      • Shelby is a Patriot says:

I wouldn’t take those predictions too seriously. As pointed out below, they’re visiting Baylor so it seems unlikely they’d pick against them. Plus, I doubt JP was serious about that score, he’s just showing the confidence he has in the team he is committed too. No big deal.

      • Gary Robbins says:

He had an OU offer. The odds of him coming to OU now are about 80% against. Probably a young athlete just having a good time.

  • Will Narramore says:

Isnt Chris Daniels announcing sometime in November? Gotta be a pretty good sign if he is and the only visits he’s taken are Oklahoma and Michigan

  • hOUligan says:

With the DLmen OU returns; Romar, Wade, Overton, Orso, Gallimore, Lampkin, Garnett, can’t see that they take more than 1, maybe 2 tops. Guys better get on board with a ‘commit’. And love the film on these last 2 guys, Guidry and Von’Darius Freeman. Both very quick first step and powerful.

  • Cush Creekmont says:

As the season started, I worried about our D-Line having lost a very fine coach. At this point, I believe we may have an even better one. Diron has really got those guys playing fast and good. If he can bring in some new talent to go with the very, very deep current group, OUr team will be THE defense folks talk about – Good hire Bob and Mike Stoops!

    • BoomerDave says:

While no one may replace Monty as a recruiter, Reynolds is a huge step up as a coach. I was saying on here last year how people who really understand DL play, were highly critical of Monty’s teaching of D-Line technique. Guys like Tony Casillas, Jimbo Elrod, Kelly Gregg, Pat Jones and Sam Mayes all were horribly critical of the poor technique being taught by Monty. Reynolds’ NFL experience in invaluable. Perhaps Monty will learn from the NFL as well. Reynolds was such a great hire by Bob, as was Lincoln and Kerry Cooks. Jury still out on Simmons IMO.

      • cdzendolet says:

I think overall, the WRs have been much better than last year. Simmons is doing a fine job – we also have a lot of talent that needed a bit of development, especially after we lose Shepard this year, so next year will be a good measuring stick for that hire.

        • Dick Bump says:

I agree, I think the receivers are playing much better this year. There are occasional drops, but not many and there’s a marked improvement by some, Neal comes to mind. He’s been playing really good so far.

  • SamSooner says:

Because this is what I do, I’m at it again. I was watching the game again last night. When Mayfield was sacked near the goal line, it seemed that the referees let that play go on forever. In fact, the whistle was blown until Mayfield hit the ground. My mind went to the Tennessee game when the whistle was blown so quickly that prevented Parker from making a strip and score. On the personal foul called on Alexander when he tackled Stidham, that whistle was quick also.

So, I went back to Stidham’s tackle and timed how long it took the whistle to blow, starting from the point of initial contact. It took the referees 1.5 seconds to blow that whistle. To be fair, I gave the referees the benefit of the doubt by considering they’d blown the whistle because Stidham’s forward progress was stopped.

I went back to Mayfield’s sack and it took the referees nearly 4 seconds to blow the whistle beginning at the point of initial contact. That’s a lot of disparity. Mayfield’s forward progress was stopped as soon as Stidham’s but yet, the play was allowed to continue for 2.5 seconds.

Folks, this OU team is not getting a fair shake.

    • Exiled In Ohio says:

BU definitely got the home field advantage from the refs, as would be expected. The targeting non-call was the most frustrating to me. When a guy’s helmet and mouthpiece go flying, it might be time to consider whether there was a blow to the head.

BTW, Joe is pretty tough. That plus the cheap shot later in the game … and he just got up and kept playing.

    • Bill Holder says:

I’m going to go ahead and say it…..I worry about us getting a fair shake with the refs when we visit Stoolwater. They always seem to get a multitude of calls go their way there. It’s not just with us, every team that goes there has to fight that fight. Watch their game with Baylor this week and then respond with what you see.

      Classy tweet by Cale.

    • Clay Davis says:

I think it’s aimed at Strong. There have been reports that Strong and his staff don’t put much effort into cultivating ties with Texas HS coaches and even going around them.

      • Indy_sooner says:

The timing screams otherwise. This was right after beating Baylor. I doubt that the coaches wait a month+ to go after Charlie Skrong.

  • Gary Robbins says:

    Visitors for the OU/TCU weekend.
    Caleb Kelly-Fresno, Ca.
    Chris Daniels-Euless, Tx.
    Marcell Southall-Duncanville, Tx.
    Jordan Carmouchee, Manvel, Tx.
    Mique Juarez- Torrance, Ca.
    Tyree Horton- Highland ,Kansas CC
    Dre Massey-Holmes CC-Gordman, Ms.
This list has 50 % chance of being correct. Nothing guaranteed .
Give me Kelly, Daniels, Southall, and Horton of above list (athletes OU has a great chance at).
Add in: Amani Bledsoe, Tyrie Cleveland, Tramonda Moore, and a running back.
That would put OU at around 20.

    • Exiled In Ohio says:

Sounds good, but if Hardy flips to Houston, we may need another WR. I’m beginning to worry about WR; the only position I’m worried about with next year’s team.

      • Fear The Magic says:

Me too. WR is a major concern. RB is slowly becoming a concern as well.

        • Mr. Jones says:

I’m not too concerned with RB yet because it’s a position where you can bring in a freshman and have success right away. Plus Anderson was getting rave reviews before his injury.

          • Fear The Magic says:

Conceivably both Samaje and Mixon could leave after next year, I love Andersons potential but he has a history of knee problems. Between those two factors Im mildly concerned.

          • Scott says:

Abdul Adams , Maurice Speights are high on OU. Besides lots of 5 star backs in next years class that are high on OU

          • Mr. Jones says:

Fair enough. One positive is that the OL will be experienced and probably awesome in two years so whoever the RB is will have that going for him, which is nice.

        • Exiled In Ohio says:

This may be a down year for RB recruiting, but I think Samaje has a huge year with the improved OL next year, and all the elite RBs won’t be as afraid of coming to an air raid team.

        • Indy_sooner says:

I wouldn’t call it “major”. Major would be a lack of depth, we stockpiled on quality pickups this year. A leader will emerge. Neal is a solid #2 behind Shep. Andrews and Quick will have big years

      • SoonerGoneEast says:

That’s my biggest concern too. When Ryan B. and Sterling S. went down it showed just what things can be like when you don’t have any depth. Scary.

    • Mr. Jones says:

Jordan Elliot will be there as well.

      • Gary Robbins says:

Another stud defensive tackle(Elliott). The visitor list on Original Posters is very impressive. Anthony Hines the lb from Plano, Tx. (2017) is coming. Has like 70 or more offers. Maybe him and Caleb Kelly will become friends.

  • STL Sooner says:

When it comes to recruits, I only want the ones that want to be here. If you have to beg them, move on. Passion for your choice equals effort toward your goals.

  • Shelby is a Patriot says:

This guy thinks Baker will win the Heisman:
    http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=14145127

    • Daryl says:

I mean I love baker and I think he should be in the conversation for sure, but sorry Baker is the best player in college football. I would even still argue that our best player is either Shep or Perine and I don’t say that as a negative to Baker at all. I love his passion and his grit, but I don’t think he is the best player in college football this year.

      • Drew says:

Remember, the award isn’t for the “best” player, it’s for the “most outstanding.” I think Baker fits that pretty well.

      • soonerthunder says:

have to disagree on the best player for OU right now. If you think Shep or Perine are, you are looking at O players, and not considering Striker, Tapper, Walker, etc. however, even considering O players only, it’s Mayfield. It’s such a more complicated position, getting the team in the right position, then making it available for Shep (who is great) and Perine to do what they do. In my mind, it’s Mayfield easily.

      • DrewChubbs says:

Despite the talent levels of any of our players, and even despite their OU-to-the-Bone hearts, this team goes as Baker goes. Not saying we are make or break without him, but he brings something other than football skills to this table. His inspiration is every bit as valuable as his arm. That fact alone makes him pretty OUtstanding. There is just not a lot of different perspectives from which to see that, in my humble opinion.

      • Defend Colfax says:

When was the last time you watched a season of college football? Baker Mayfield is a perfect candidate for Heisman and the only legit contender on the team. If Larry Fitz didn’t win Shep won’t, and Perine has no chance being a BIG XII RB.

        • Daryl says:

I didn’t say that Perine or Shepherd should win I said they are the best players on our team. Baker has had been amazing and has had some great moments. I love him and Ineish the NCAA had not screwed him over and he had 2 years left instead of one. I am for him and hope he does win.

I more so was just saying if you are asking me who the best players on our team are I think that Perine and Shepherd are. But with the way the Heisman is handled these days most great players don’t have a chance because it is all about the money not truly honoring the best players. IMO

  • ccmosaic says:

Per a couple pay sites. The kid has not been offered by OU. It may be a walk on situation but he has not been offered a scholarship from OU. We shall see. The plot thickens. If he is as big and fast as his numbers show I would take him for depth. Strange thing is he has no Jr College stats. We may be getting played by a kid.

  • hushnpa says:

Baker Mayfield got Big 12 P.O.t.W. or is this already known ?
    obvious anyway

    • Fear The Magic says:

Hes either really big or playing against middle school kids in that Vid.

    • ccmosaic says:

He has no Jr College stats. That should be a clue. I think the kid is either a walk on to OU or he was never given an offer by OU. No OU coaches are following him on twitter either. That is odd as well for a kid getting a scholarship.

      • Stephen says:

Yeah, I’ve looked and he’s not on any of our offer lists. Pretty strange.

      • Stephen says:

Nov 10th he tweeted out he had a good talk with Coach Gundy, fwiw.

        • ccmosaic says:

This is odd. A couple OU 2016 kids are following him now. He claims to be an ESPN Juco 50 player. ESPN shows he has offers from Tennessee and Maryland but not the normal crowd for a top Juco 50 plyer. This is strange.

        • ccmosaic says:

To make things more on the odd side. Gundy is now following him on Twitter. What the heck is going on?

  • William Ryan says:

Is there a full length video of the baylor game out yet?

I guess he didnt feel the actual pain from his “hurt ankle” until his teammate told him that hes in pain then.

    • Mizuno44 says:

Imagine being in the group of recruits witnessing the Fake Injury, I hope they think long and hard about committing to a university with that kind of integrity

    • ccmosaic says:

Thanks for the link to the sweet shoes man. But really what does that have to do with the so called Boom?

  • Stephen says:

So now pay sites are saying no commitment?

  • SamSooner says:

    We’ve been “catfished.”

  • Exiled In Ohio says:

No way OU takes a JUCO RB. Makes no sense. I did see on twitter where his HS congratulated him. I’m with ccmosaic: at best he’s a walk on. Perhaps it was a misunderstanding with Gundy. Note: he did make the ESPN JUCO 50, but I don’t care if he’s #1; OU doesn’t need a JUCO RB at this point.

    • BoomerDave says:

It makes PERFECT sense to take a JUCO RB. After next year we could possibly lose every single RB on our roster except Anderson. Not a great position to be in, IMO. According to his tweet, he has 3 years of eligibility left. I’m on board if it turns out to be real.

      • Exiled In Ohio says:

I certainly agree we need a 2016 RB, but not a JUCO. The only thing that makes sense to me could be if we thought he would be a FB, as golfluvr13 suggested below. More likely it’s a misunderstanding and Cale welcomed him to walk on.

        • BoomerDave says:

I couldn’t disagree more, but no biggie. Hard to imagine starting 2017 with only a twice-injured Anderson and a RS FR (the 2016 RB) along with our 2017 RB recruit. I wouldn’t mind seeing a Damien Williams type of JUCO brought in for depth.

          • Exiled In Ohio says:

I appreciate the respectful disagreement! If we need more RBs, let’s go for 2 freshmen. From everything I’ve heard, RB is a position where one RS year is good, as opposed to other positions where freshmen, including redshirts rarely play. Samaje and Rod both played as true freshmen; Joe would have. So, in 2017, the 2016 recruits would have a full year under their belts.

Hey, but what do I know? I’m just an armchair coach. Sure glad we got guys lots smarter than me making the decision.

          • Boom says:

We can go for another frosh or two but a JUCO wouldn’t hurt with depth. I like it and we play with two all the time so we really need 5 RBs with one of them being a burner.

  • KJ1123 says:

I hate to bash the kid, but after reading his tweet…….he may want to take a college prep writing course before he goes to a 4 year.

    • HoustonChiver says:

If you hate to bash the kid, then don’t.

      • KJ1123 says:

Let me rephrase, my point was this is a kid in Junior College, that tweet didn’t sound like someone who is in Junior College, my first thought was that it was a fake tweet from someone who may have hacked his phone or twitter account, maybe one of his buddies who are not in college or even in HS. However, if it is indeed him, then he needs to work on some other things AS WELL as working hard to get on the field.

        • HoustonChiver says:

Have you read some of the tweets by the kids already on our team? Or really half of the professional/NCAA athletes out there….

Yes, my wife listens to the game on 107.7. Merv explains things, where she understand the game more clearly.

  • Shelby is a Patriot says:

    Well, that’s interesting…

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

I hate fake booms. I prefer the real ones.

  • OceanDescender says:

Is this an area recruiting deal with Harris? I figured he’d want people to confirm it with the actual running backs coach (Boulware) rather than Gundy.

  • Jesse says:

    What. A. Crazy. Monday.

  • SoonerfanTU says:

To be fair, he never says he was offered a scholarship. I guess “committing” would be a poor choice of words if he were walking on, but that might explain it.

    • Bob Edwards says:

I think a charitable reading of what was said would take that as a possible explanation until it is clarified. In what I have read, he doesn’t say he has a scholly. So it may just be the kid doesn’t quite understand that the words he is using means something different to most of the people listening.

    • Tipman says:

According to ESPN, he has an offer from Tennessee. I’m not sure why you wouldn’t take that over walking on at OU and playing behind Perine and Mixon

      • SoonerfanTU says:

Maybe ESPN doesn’t have up to date information.

        • Exiled In Ohio says:

I saw a couple of different records for him. He changed schools, and that seems to confuse things.

      • Bob Edwards says:

Except that an offer at Tennessee is about the same as walking on at OU. Tennessee is notorious for oversigning then gray shirting people. Also at his size he may not be a RB he may be a FB.

    • hOUligan says:

Kinda feel bad for the kid in any event. Would be nice to see someone from the staff confirm he has been ‘accepted’ as a preferred walk-on or whatever the situation might be. If legit, it should be a happy time for the kid. If it’s something else altogether, I still feel bad for him.

    • Gary Robbins says:

Probably right about a scholarship offer. He just said he was committed to play for 3 years. I’m sure there have been lots of athletes committed to play at OU with the idea of a scholarship. Maybe not a “boom” just a little pop.

  • BoomerDave says:

How about everyone withhold their thoughts/bashing the Harris kid until we know more. Let’s give him the benefit of the doubt before we jump to conclusions and assuming we’ve been catfished.

  • SoonerinLondon says:

Mr. Harris, we welcome you to the Sooner family with open arms.

Hope to see you in Norman.

  • Bob Edwards says:

One of the things that has impressed me about Lincoln Riley is ability to create advantages with just a formation. The play where Perine took it to the house, he moved Shep over and the LB’s and safety shifted that way, then we ran a counter back to the other side. Once Perine was into the second level there was nobody between him and the end zone. Compare that to last year when we would run into numbers and only succeeded some of the time because we had such a good OL. On the Perine play we had so out schemed them we had a lineman with no one left to block.

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

not rewatched the game yet, but is that formation and movement similar to the flea-flicker from the ISU game?

      • Bob Edwards says:

If it was then it was dumb on Baylor’s part to leave that side of the field undefended.

        • Soonerfandave84 says:

I’ll just go with Samaje is the best RB in the B12 and made a great play behind a well blocked play by the OL

          • Bob Edwards says:

Not to take away from Perine, but its real easy when you can break one tackle and there is nothing in front of you but green. I’ll take both a top notch running back and an OC who can make it easy on him. Just think where this team would be with last year’s senior laden OLine. We are being successful with an RSFr OT, a true Fr OT, and a SO guard. That’s some good coaching on top of good players.

    • Sooner Ray says:

My favorite this past week was the ZR Baker ran in untouched. Mixon was his lead blocker and had to stop and look around for someone to block.

    • KJ1123 says:

I watched that play again, that had to be a blown assignment. Our backs use cut back lanes all the time and I assume Baylor would always have at least one run support back there on the back side. Was a really nice run.

  • Sooner Ray says:

I was walking out of a truck dealership when this broke and I wanted to comment but had things to do….turns out that was best. Not sure we want to use a ship on a juco rb this year but if that is what’s happening and the staff is for it, there must be a reason. Hope all of this gets sorted out soon.

  • Zack says:

If the kid wants to come here I’ve got no problem. I’m curious if he’s got 3 years of eligibility left though.

    • KJ1123 says:

I agree if he wants to come play in Norman, then welcome, get ready to come in and work your butt off to get on the field.

    • Exiled In Ohio says:

I saw some 2014 stats that he only had 7 carries. Perhaps he was injured and got a redshirt. If so, wouldn’t he have 3 to play 3?

    • Gary Robbins says:

It’s hard for me understand why OU hasn’t been able to get a commitment for 1 or 2 running backs. OU may be called an air-raid offense but they run the ball also. Running backs take a lot of punishment. Surely there is one rb out there. I know you, Sooner Ray, Eas-Tex, and others have preached it’s a long time till 1st week in February or is it?

      • Sooner Ray says:

Gary, this is how I look at the RB situation right now. Elite RB’s usually grow up being the star of the show and when they see a Prerine and Mixon dominating and not yet declaring early, I believe they hesitate because they want to come in and shine right away. We should sign a solid back in this class, not sure who yet, but next year the studs should be lining up because our backs will be near finished and the O line should be nasty.

        • Rick says:

Good observations as usual! Having Anderson rehabbing would cramp some HS RB’s thoughts also. Heck OUr backup RB’s would start anywhere else.

      • Zack says:

I’m surprised but I guess guys want a chance to really play as freshmen so I expect next year to be a good signing class for running backs as we will need to take at least 2 depending on if mixon and perine decide to leave maybe need 4. I know we will take one this year but I can’t believe we’re not able to pick one this year, surely it has something to do with Cale not being the RB coach.

        • Gary Robbins says:

Oh now I see part of the problem. Thanks. What is he in charge of this year?

        • Boom says:

So you are saying that Boulware is the new Kish? You don’t think they review the same tape? Zack, normally you’re the level headed one in the bunch but I think this is a knee jerk reaction. We’ll see how it works out.

          • Zack says:

I’ve been a big supporter of kish I even give him credit for landing deberry although most do not. It seems odd to me that deberry would come here if he didn’t have faith in kish. I think boulware is a good recruiter, he’s always found his guy early and doesn’t play around IMO.
My point about Cale/boulware is that Cale may have had more momentum year to year (position change may have disrupted things) Nothing against boulware just saying they may approach things differently and boulware may not have found the right guy to commit yet.

    • BoomerDave says:

      He says he does.

  • Boom says:

Guys, help me out on the Harris kid. I have no idea what’s going on as it’s been crazy for me today. thanks

  • j l says:

Why would we take a juco back, knowing the next 2 years is secure?

    • HoustonChiver says:

Depth Depth Depth. Remember when we thought everything was secure when we had Finch, Williams, and Clay with two 5 star freshman? We will get 1 more year out of Perine, then Mixon/Anderson/Harris. sounds good to me

      • Sooner Ray says:

Don’t leave Brooks out, he’s not chopped liver.

        • HoustonChiver says:

True, could say the same out Ross though. I see them both as situation guys, not full time contributors. Hopefully a JUCO top50 RB would be a full time contributor!

          • Sooner Ray says:

I would love to have another Dom Whaley or Damien Williams type back that seem to come out of nowhere.

          • Gary Robbins says:

So next season (2016) OU has Perine, Mixon, Brooks, Ross, Anderson, and Speights.
In 2017 season we have Perine, Mixon, Anderson and Speights.
I hope Mixon and Perine come back for 2017 and I have a hunch Speights will be our rb commit for 2016.

          • Sooner Ray says:

It could work out that way. Right now we are loaded for bear and next season looks strong, we could end up with a hole in our bucket if Perine AND Mixon bolt at the same time but I don’t see that happening. Anderson will be strong and I expect to recruit backs that will challenge him after this cycle.

          • j l says:

Perine seems like a 4 year kid, even if hes got a good draft grade. Just such a standup kid, i dont see him leaving without a degree

Mixon wont ever have the production to end up having a 1st round draft grade. He could leave for a 2nd/3rd round draft pick, but im thinking he plays 3 years for us.

          • Gary Robbins says:

            Very solid reasoning.

          • Boom says:

very rarely does a RB get taken in the first round anymore. If Perine did make 1st round it would be really low. Still that would be awesome.

          • j l says:

Perine probably a high 1st/ low 2nd type of player. Thats good enough to leave early, but i just have the feeling he stays. Exudes humble(kinda ironic lol)

          • j l says:

not a sure thing. OSU Grabbed a top level juco RB, and he couldnt win the starting job with no clear cut starter there.

      • kt-raida says:

        2 perine stays for 4

        • EasTex says:

Perine isn’t leaving without his degree. If he graduates early his Momma will give her blessing.

    • BoomerDave says:

Because the next 2 seasons are far from secure. Ross and Brooks will graduate after next season. Mixon and Perine will both be draft eligible after next season. That leaves with a twice-operated on Anderson.

      • j l says:

I believe mixon and perine both stay after next season. Call it a hunch.

So this kid would essentially be 4th string for 2 years. Not worth it, IMO. Not if we can get a kid like speights or adams.

    • Clint Lenard says:

Because Greg Bryant wasn’t available (again)?

    • ColoradoSooner says:

If Cale Gundy wants him, I want him!

      • j l says:

Are we sure thats even the case? Rarely, if ever, do we see kids commit without TFB uttering a word about them.

Not saying they hear everything, but i cant find where we ever offered this kid, that hes ever visited, anything.

If hes a walk on, then sure, why not?

  • KJ1123 says:

A new Baker Twitter account popped up….Im not too sure it’s him though. I forget what his twitter handle was. It was something like BM Shake 1 or something like that….

    https://twitter.com/BakeMayfield

    • Sooner Ray says:

      Looks legit.

      • KJ1123 says:

I may be able to confirm.

        • SamSooner says:

          KJ, hello!

Any news on the boys today?

I’m stoked, still and I can’t wait until Saturday.

          • KJ1123 says:

Hey Sam, nothing yet today, Sat was awesome. Can’t wait for this to play out in front of the home crowd. It’s going to be crazy!

          • SamSooner says:

There’s a very good chance our boys make it in. I think they learned their lesson in the texsa game. Plus, they want pay back from last year. Anyone who doesn’t get us this year, it’s going to be a while until they do.

          • KJ1123 says:

It HAS been a long year, from people (on this board) predicting this team wont do better than last years team and Bob needing to be fired and all the coaches along with him and recruiting sucks..etc..etc…we’re still in a great position going into the stretch. Even if for some reason we don’t get in after hopefully winning out, I will still be smiling during the off-season regardless.

          • SamSooner says:

Exactly. I refuse to give up on this team or any OU team.
I’m so proud of how they’ve come together (closer if it’s possible) since the texsa game. I mean, seeing Trevor genuinely happy for Mayfield and watching the player go get MS to bring him over to the fans, that’s unreal.

The one thing all recruits say following their OV is that the team is close.

          • Rick says:

I do appreciate the regulars on this board, we do have the guys that only show up to trash OUr team when things don’t go well. I do go to LT once a week to see if anyone with a brain has created an intellegent thread. The 1st one I looked at was the “This Offense Is A Joke”, thread. Stayed with it for about 30 seconds and came back the TFB.

          • KJ1123 says:

That’s sad. I think we have a great mix here. I think it helps that the ban hammer is always ready to drop. But even with the negative comments, for the most part they aren’t disrespectful or blind comments. Some of them have fact and history to back up their views. I appreciate a good argument.

          • Rick says:

Marry an evil woman, and you will be happy then. HAHA

          • bryan says:

No way to be happy with an EVIL woman !!!

          • Dick Bump says:

I thought it was an ugly woman?….So that’s what happened with my first wife.

          • EasTex says:

I’ve had people ask me why I got divorced and I always tell them it was due to religious differences.
I was Southern Baptist and she was the daughter of satan…we just couldn’t reconcile our differences.

          • Boom says:

Never understood the hate for Bob by some who thought his time was done. I’m sure there was pressure on him but people in those positions have pressure every year especially at OU. His fire still burning and this year it’s been blazing. The new coaches have helped along with the other changes Bob implemented.

          • kt-raida says:

I believe OU will win the championship every year and the majority of the time I’m wrong but thats the faith and love I have for OU football

          • EasTex says:

            That makes bofus!

          • Slim Sooner says:

            I am with you.

          • BleedCrimson says:

Yep, I expect OU to win every game.

          • Sooner Ray says:

I always avoided that thread based on title alone, couldn’t even tell you what has been said in there.

          • Gary Robbins says:

Let’s see why would OU want a win this Saturday.
            !. Senior night.
            2. Playing a good ranked opponent who has the same record as OU.
            3. Helps for recruiting purposes (especially in Texas).
            4. Big time weekend for visiting recruits.
            5. A little payback for last year.
            6. A loss and OU’s dream of championships are out the window for this year.
            7. Yep this is another must win game.
Seems the kind of game OU thrives on this year.

    • Rick says:

I thought that his twitter was @shakenbake, but I guess I was mistaken. There is quite a movement on twitter now promoting Baker for heisman, it is hashtag #ShakenBake.

  • Boom says:

Texas Tech to Baker – We can with with you and about half the time without you. TT fans have to be angry with all his attention from the media.

  • ALar03 says:

So I finally got my internet back on and the first thing I do is find the replay on youtube… Did anyone else realize they put Joe Mixon back deep on kick return? Anyway boomer sooner!!

  • Daryl says:

I am sure this has been posted and I missed it but I was really impressed with Zach Sanchez this weekend. After game it was very obvious that he was not 100% but he grinded throughout the game. Great toughness and leadership. After the game when interviewed all he did was praise Jordan Thomas and Ahmad Thomas rather than himself. Great humble leadership. Compared to what I was hearing about him last year this is a total turn around for Zach. So proud of him and thrilled he is on my team. Go get it Sanchez!

    • Boom says:

I thought at times his play was ok. One thing for sure about Sanchez, he isn’t physical. When he came in, he would run from the guy who was blocking him instead of trying to stop the play. Only once did I see him put his head into the scrum. Glad he was humble.

      • JD says:

Your not gonna find many 160 lb guys with a bum ankle try to out physical a 320 lb lineman on first goal from the 1…that said he did get beat on a few plays

      • JD says:

Your not gonna find many 160 lb guys with a bum ankle try to out physical a 320 lb lineman on first goal from the 1…that said he did get beat on a few plays

      • Recondo says:

The only play he did that was when he was outweighed by about 180lbs. He wasn’t going to shed that block anyway and was smart to avoid a pancake that could have jacked up his ankle even worse. That play was either well designed by BU or we had a LB out of position because lil’ ol’ Sanchez never should have been hanging out in the box like that all by his lonesome.

      • hushnpa says:

he really didn’t try to challenge any 300 lbers , but he dodged em a couple times and made some really good stops on running plays . one for a big 3rd down stop .

        • Boom says:

In pros, they challenge or they don’t play. Doesn’t matter, stick your head in there and go for the knees to knock him down. Do something that may delay the RB for a second and maybe someone else gets him.

    • Dick Bump says:

Internet rumors have to be taken with many grains of salt.

      • Daryl says:

I do not take internet rumor serious. The things I heard about Zach last year was not on the internet. Either way the guy has truly been a leader this year and it has been awesome to watch.

    • SoonerinLondon says:

The guy is almost certainly going to leave OU as the all-time interception leader, yet he will be forever trashed. Much like Landry Jones, the winningest QB in OU history will be forever trashed.

OU fans are a spoiled lot.

I just finished reading “The Undefeated” and in 1956 OU was 35 or so games into the streak and had shutouts in each of their first few games that year. (In fact, they finished 1957 with 8 shutouts…amazing.) At any rate, they came up against Kansas, who was terrible, and won something like 56-12 and OU fans booed because they let KU score 2 touchdowns.

We are way, WAY too spoiled.

  • Mizuno44 says:

I just want to take the opportunity to personally thank Kliff Klingsbury, the rest of their coaching staff, and the University itself for completely fubar-ing their relationship with Baker Mayfield.

  • EasTex says:

To the Stoolwater pokes and fans.
We give you the remains of the baylor bears. You are welcome…
    http://stream1.gifsoup.com/view2/3751264/fargo-woodchipper-o.gif

    • Mizuno44 says:

Yeah, you’re welcome T Boone “Pickin-and-a-grinnin”, now pick up the tab for our stadium improvements!!

      • EasTex says:

Yeah, or at least give us half your seating when we have to play there.

        • SamSooner says:

EasTex, it’s not complete until you arrive. Welcome.

          • EasTex says:

            Howdy, friend.
Been a long day, doing the ‘tine…

          • SamSooner says:

Is that Mel Brooks? He was a nut.

          • EasTex says:

It is he, from Blazing Saddles.

          • SamSooner says:

What a win this weekend. Wow!

So, I’ll tell you about the dream I had in 2001, which leads me to believe OU will win B2B championships.

When I first dreamt it, I thought it would happen within the next few years. But too much was missing from what happened in the dream.

There were two dreams, In the first, there was this construction at the stadium in Norman. What’s going on now.

In the second dream, the construction was still going on but I was there. Where will I be next year.

Things I dream usually come true or there’s this strong sense of deja vu. I know it sounds crazy but I think this year will be one of B2B championships.

          • EasTex says:

One of my Dad’s grandmothers was a gypsy fortune teller. She told him that if wanted something very badly that the last thing he should think about before going to bed was that “thing.” This was during the depression, his father had died and his Mom was doing what she could to take care of him and his sister. Winter was approaching and the only pair of shoes he had were worn out tennis shoes. He followed her method, which were included in his dreams, never telling anyone what he wished for. Then a few days later an Uncle he seldom heard from showed up out of the blue with a set of heavy boots, just like the one’s he had dreamed of.
The season has yet to play out, but I will say this…should the Sooners make it to the playoff there is not a team in the land they can’t beat. This year’s team will return 17 starters for next year with a large group of very talented players waiting to see the field.
            Don’t stop believing.

          • SamSooner says:

No sir. I never will. Even when they were making mistakes, I could see the potential. Now that I see the potential, I see that its barely been tapped.

          • EasTex says:

What would the score look like if OU played a “PERFECT” game?
I pity the team that finds out.

          • SamSooner says:

Oh my gosh. I can’t tell you. I wouldn’t want to be the team that finds out. If OU could have punched in that TD that would have put them up by 21, Baylor would have quit right then. I don’t think I’ve seen Bob Stoops want a win so badly.

Someone is going to get the full brunt of this team’s capability.

          • EasTex says:

Coach Stoops seems to know what this team is capable of and he is feeling it.
I don’t expect Andrews will have many bad games like he did the other night, felt badly for him. Sure hope he has put it behind him and will be more urgent with his blocking and clutch with his catches.

          • SamSooner says:

I think it will be fixed this week. I believe he will be part of the game plan against TCU.

Change of topic: OU will be so deep at DL next year, it’s possible they could alternate 4 different DLs each defensive series. Talk about wearing down an offensive line.

          • EasTex says:

The list of DL on the current roster is astounding. I’m even concerned at this point of losing some to transfer.

          • SamSooner says:

I hope not. Personally, I think they’ll keep them. There will be a lot of them getting PT next year.

          • EasTex says:

The only DL senior is Tapper.
            /dang

          • SamSooner says:

Let’s hope the boys want to be here and stick it out. I’m anxious to see Orso, Que, Lampkin, Galimore and Mann. Wow! That’s a starting five right there.

          • EasTex says:

Garnett, Ward, Wade, Rodriquez, Romar, Dimon, Walker and some I’m not remembering.
Romar and Walker were on the coaches show Sunday night. They gave Coach Reynolds props for his teaching. I have noticed in every game since this 5 game run began that the technique by all the DL has improved. From better use of their reach keeping the OL off of them to the spin moves that were never present.
There is a lot going on and I think the coaching staff deserves a great deal of credit, as well as the players applying what they have learned.

          • Gary Robbins says:

Hoping Okie State will be one of the first.

          • EasTex says:

If they keep improving game by game, then save their perfect game for the championship there is no telling what I may do as a result.

          • Gary Robbins says:

Can a person OD on tater tots?

          • EasTex says:

That occasion would require the tots be sprinkled with truffel oil, served with a side of Wagyu tenderloin.

          • Gary Robbins says:

This year and next year are shaping up to be super years for OU football. Throw in all the improvements and it’s an exciting time to be a Sooner.
Talking about your son being a swimmer I remember reading an article about Phelps (?) the Olympic swimmer who won all the medals. Seems like he had to have something like 12,000 calories a day while in training. That’s a lot of grub.

          • SamSooner says:

It is a lot of grub and we’re probably not feeding him as much as we should. We hold him back because it seems gluttonous sometimes. Plus, we have to explain to his sisters why they can have as much as he does.

          • SamSooner says:

Here are a couple pictures of Max at swim practice. He’s freshman but he’s built to beat the band. He’s about 6’1″, 200lbs.

          • EasTex says:

How old is the young man?

          • SamSooner says:

            14

          • EasTex says:

He hasn’t even hit his growth spurt.
            /dang

          • SamSooner says:

Nope. We took him to the orthopedic surgeon because he was complaining about knee pain. Well, it turns out to be growing pain. The surgeon said his growth plates are wide open.

          • EasTex says:

Yeah, I remember those days. Lots of painful, sleepless nights and the institutional sized jars of aspirin.
God Bless him, as big as he is already he will really feel those bones stretching everything attached to them.

          • SamSooner says:

He’s a real good kid. I’m proud of him. He and I are really close.

          • EasTex says:

I’m sure he is, I know you are and glad to hear you are close.

          • Sooner Ray says:

            That’s a big 14 yr. old.

          • SamSooner says:

He is. He’s as fit as can be. He has swim practice before and after school, four hours total. He eats like a horse.

          • Sooner Ray says:

My horses are cheaper to feed than my wife’s 15 yr. old boy. He’s up to 6’3″ or so and has had those growth pains, still growing. I quit asking what she spends on groceries because I never see him without food in his hand. LOL, When brat’s go on the grill, at least six are for him.

          • SamSooner says:

Dang! Dustin is out of luck, huh?

          • EasTex says:

It wasn’t until I had kids that I could fully appreciate how it must have been for my parents trying to keep three athletic boys 4 1/2 years apart fed.

          • Bob Edwards says:

I had five teenage boys in the house at one time. Fortunately, my Russians weren’t as big as the biological boys. Still at the peak, I think we were spending about $320/week on groceries.

          • EasTex says:

            Dang!
Hope you had a garden and a chicken coup.

          • Bob Edwards says:

No but lots of rice and potatoes. Also had three freezers so we could buy meat when it was on sale. Had a friend we would buy an entire cow from and have it butchered. Most of it got turned into hamburger so you could mix into a casserole and make it go farther.

          • Sooner Ray says:

That’s a good thing to do. When I do a beef, a large part of it goes into ground because you can use it in so many ways. I even have a freezer dedicated to ground beef, pork, etc.

          • Bob Edwards says:

When I worked at the athletic dorm kitchens while I was in school, OU had a club of guys who had donated 100 head or more of cattle to the program. We did an inventory one time and had a little over a ton of ground beef.

          • SamSooner says:

During the summer, we take the left over vegetables, steaks, sausage and freeze it. In the winter my wife makes beef and vegetable soups.

          • SamSooner says:

            Wow!

          • Sooner Ray says:

When I was growing up, our garden covered an acre of land and we raised several different animals for food, that’s the only way my parent’s made it. At todays grocery prices, I would have gone hungry as a kid.

          • Bob Edwards says:

6’1 200, teenager, and a swimmer. That’s a food bill. My oldest biological son was 6’3″ at about that age and if it wasn’t moving he was eating it. If it was moving and he could catch it, he would eat it.

          • SamSooner says:

It’s incredible how much he eats. Too bad I can’t T&E it.

    • BleedCrimson says:

I work with a couple of Okie lite homers. One of them told me today “I want to thank you guys for softening up Stidham for us”. Lol

      • EasTex says:

        LOL!
        Not only Stidham.

        • BleedCrimson says:

Some psyches needing an ice bath, for sure.

        • Boom says:

I truly feel Baylor finds a lot of quit in them this week. They fly high but they were really grounded and their mind will not allow them to get back on that high.

          • Recondo says:

I think we gave Stidham a case of the jitters and if OSU can do anything this year, it’s rush the QB. Add in the fact BU can’t win in Stillwater for some reason and I see us beating an undefeated OSU in the final week.

          • EasTex says:

I agree and would be the ideal scenario for the Sooners.
Having said that, next up is tcu.

          • JB says:

I wonder, if they’re not too beaten up by OU, if they don’t unload on oSu. Baylor’s more talented, and I think Briles has to let stidham run more to open up their offense.

      • Hotrod33 says:

I think we beat them by 17-20 pts. They don’t have a running game and I don’t think they can stop ours. I like our chances. But first TCU is on our radar now.

        • Recondo says:

I agree we beat them handily but I think their RB is flying under the radar. They are sneaky good but will never get back in the game against OU like they have managed all year.

          • Hotrod33 says:

They have struggled all year running the ball. Right now I have heard from a few people that they are picking them for the sheer fact they are playing at home. That’s fine with me, OU is just taking care of business and that is all that matters. I like we are flying under the radar. They remind me of Baylor just getting by playing cupcakes except for TCU. They have been playing very average teams from behind all year.

          • Recondo says:

I agree with all this. I’m just saying their RB has flashed some real talent. I am NOT saying they are a good running team this year. I sincerely believe we have two games ahead we should win but both teams are dangerous. I am just glad our last three opponents rose so high in the rankings so we look that much better when we send them crashing back down to earth.

          • Bob Edwards says:

Yeah they are 2-6 in Stillwater under Stoops. 1-4 since Gundy came. Heck of a home field advantage there.

          • Sooner Ray says:

I pick them to beat Baylor because we dinged them up and broke their spirit, then I pick us to demolish lil brother just because we are that much better. You heard it here and if I end up being wrong…..get in line. 🙂

          • SamSooner says:

They have to get past me first, my friend.

          • EasTex says:

I concur. If we are wrong, then we will be curs. :-0

      • j l says:

OSU buddy of mine is hearing stidham may not even play. May be wishful thinking on his part, but i think back to his face after tapper suplexed him. Kid was hurting bad.

        • EasTex says:

Tapper flung him like a tackling dummy. Even in slo-mo the spin and slam was fast.

          • j l says:

Boy did he ever. Tapper coming on STRONG

          • EasTex says:

He’s playing great and seems to be having more fun than ever.

          • SamSooner says:

And as you say all the time, he’s not fight double teams this year. That has to make it more fun.

          • EasTex says:

Absolutely. The position he was in last year was read and react while maintaining the edge. With the new alignment this year and experienced, talented players around him he is now able to attack. I hope you noticed it was Tapper that ran Linwood down from behind on the long run he made on their opening possession.

          • SamSooner says:

Yes. I saw that. It reminded me of the Bama game. He was just as fast as Linwood.

          • EasTex says:

I would say faster, he didn’t really have the angle he just flat out caught him from behind.
In the bama game he blew past Striker to catch Cooper. Tap is a very impressive athlete.

          • SamSooner says:

That he is and a good citizen to boot.

          • j l says:

Whole teams seems to be playing loose, and having fun. It’s amazing what difference baker is having on the whole team

        • BleedCrimson says:

The expression on his face was quite telling. Both at the time of the slam, and after on the sideline when he was getting a jacket put on him. Wounded bird look.

  • Easton says:

Per Jason Kersey tweet: Mr. Harris does not hold an OU offer, scholarship or walk-on.

    • Zack says:

I don’t know what is going on with this kid but I kinda hope people just let it go. I understand many including tfb have a need to report on it but if the kid was mistaken about his conversations with ou (if that’s the case) then I’m sure it’s something he doesn’t want reported.

      • Easton says:

I hope so too. He reported the commitment however. I hope this will not distract.

        • Zack says:

This is true he put himself out there but if he genuinely thought he had an offer and didn’t then it’s not a great look for ou, not saying the coaches look bad but just a weird situation and not exactly good pub.

          • Boom says:

Interesting, we beat Baylor and then this so called commit comes out of now where. Could this be another team that hacks an account to put false info out there to possibly hurt our RB recruiting? Hmm, I know Baylor would never stoop this low. /s

          • Easton says:

            I also thought this.

          • JB says:

No, absolutely not. Briles is a fine upstanding person who would NEVER cheat and skirt the rules. (I think my nose just grew out about 12 inches…and all it’s smelling at the moment is the massive amount of bull dung from my first sentence.)

      • JB says:

Since Gundy is a receivers coach now and Gundy is supposedly who offered him, I’m wondering if this is real that they offered him as a receiver instead of RB. That would be an unusual and unlikely move, and I doubt he’s even been offered as TFB says, but if he were that would be interesting to see.

  • Fear The Magic says:

Yikes OU Womens BB team off to a slow start. Trailing North Texas 10 – 2

  • BleedCrimson says:

I am a bit surprised, but quite happy that we are going to be the Prime-time game again this week. I think that we will be able to swing some attitude our way with a good showing against TCU. Doesn’t hurt that Herbie was showing us some love on ESecPN either.

    • EasTex says:

Just think of how many eyes saw the Sooners for the first time last week. Playing well and being seen doing so is good for OU in every way.

      • BleedCrimson says:

Agreed. Think this week is going to be huge when we blow out TCU.

      • SamSooner says:

OU left so many points on the field. But I’m like you EasTex, this team is dominant and has yet to put together a complete game.

These fellas continue to peak at the right time.

        • Dustin says:

Yep. As well as we have played this past month, every one of those games could have (and probably should have) been way more lopsided.

          • SamSooner says:

You’re absolutely right. OU is the only team that’s capable of scoring points and shutting down other teams.

This is going to sound crazy, that texsa game needed to happen. It woke these boys up.

          • Dustin says:

I wish only the first half needed to happen.

          • Sooner Ray says:

I understand what you’re saying but I just can’t feel anything good from that loss. Some of the players have said the difference in their play since that game is due to tougher practices. That’s on the coaches, why aren’t we practicing hard from day one? I thought that was the point.

          • SamSooner says:

It leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I hate losing to texsa. I felt the same way about the Baylor game. I think the coaches have learned that the players want to get pushed. I’m glad they listened and made the change. That OL is starting to look nasty and Darlington said they are playing angry.

Another thing, I mentioned on here once that when Alvarez relieved Darlington that he never looked between his legs before the snap. Since Darlington came back, he’s not doing that anymore. He was allowing the DL to time the play. It’s not happening anymore.

          • Sooner Ray says:

Has been huge improvements across the front but we knew going in it was going to be a process, just glad it has been positive. Future looks bright.

          • EasTex says:

I heard one of the boys on CFB Daily say that OU has scored more point and gained more yards than any team in FBS since the Texsa loss.

        • JB says:

If our kickoff & punt return games were explosive (like last year’s kickoffs anyway) think about how much better we could be.

  • SamSooner says:

The Big XII’s schedule is back-loaded, with the exception of one team: texsa. I wonder what happened, there? They didn’t get invited to the party.

    • BleedCrimson says:

I think the League didn’t see Texsa being a factor when scheduling games. I LIKE it.

    • Cush Creekmont says:

Baylor last game of the season. Leftover texsa insider thought they could be the inspirational killer of “mighty” Baylor.

I hope texsa has 5 wins and needs to beat Baylor to make a bowl – Just HOW low is that to have to UPSET BAYLOR for texsa to make a bowl?

texsa faithful must just dream of the 1960s and DKR.

  • Mizuno44 says:

We need to get Nebraska back into the fold and add Iowa (credit to RBear). Texas has more problems than just coaching, all that money and a “million miles from nowhere” ala D Yoakam.

    • RBear says:

      Nebbish and Iowa

      • Mizuno44 says:

        Good call on Iowa

      • Recondo says:

That would be great. I think those two are pipe dreams. I still like L’ville and Pitt and think we could get them. Good football, basketball, wrestling, nice markets, and recruiting. Plus, it makes geographical sense after adding WVU and we get a built in rivalry.

        • EasTex says:

And it would renew the blood feud between wvu and pitt.

        • Mizuno44 says:

Looking back, the Longhorn Network caused so much grief.

        • RBear says:

I think bringing Neb back reunites one of the best rivalries ever in OU / Neb, adding Iowa brings a stout wrestling school into a stout wrestling conference and creates an instant rivalry with ISU- Neb being close in proximity is also a plus.

This has been my preference (pipe dream) for awhile and will continue to be until they make whatever move it is they eventually make.

        • JB says:

They are pipe dreams. They are locked into a GOR contract with Bug 10 that doesn’t end for about another 10 years. The Big 12 started it (GOR) and I believe it was actually Boren’s brainchild. But all power 5 conferences followed suit, so we’re stuck where we are and so are they. All that’s left is the best of what’s left and BYU is probably at the top of that list. I’ve been hoping for BYU to join in football only (although the rest of the sports would be fine too. Keep playing 3 non-conference games plus all 10 other teams so EVERY member plays 13, not just the 2 teams in a conference championship game like other conferences. None of the decision makers seem to share in my support of this idea, however.

          • JB says:

I intended for it to read Big 10 but autocorrect decided it was “Bug”…I kind of like autocorrect’s version better.

    • Recondo says:

You get an up vote from me for the Dwight Yoakam reference. Well played sir, well played.
