Open Post | Weekend, August 25th – 27th

Delarrin Turner-Yell | Finishing DB Recruiting: As you all know by now, Sooners DB target, Delarrin Turner-Yell (Hempstead, TX) recently decommitted from Baylor. The decommitment came only a few weeks after a visit to OU.

Earlier this week, Turner-Yell tweeted out the following:

I checked with Turner-Yell’s coach who confirmed that August 26th is meant to indicate his announcement date. There really should be no surprise what school Turner-Yell announces. But for those of you who are unsure, you can check Turner-Yell’s twitter header.

Should things go the Sooners ways tomorrow, I’m told that Oklahoma will take one more DB if it’s the right DB. Who are the right DBs? The names I was given are CJ Smith out of West Palm Beach Florida and Ohio State commit, Josh Proctor.

As Brandon reported earlier in the summer, CJ Smith is expected to take an official visit to Oklahoma in early October for the Iowa State game.

Trejan Bridges: Sooners are set at receivers for 2018. So, as of late, Oklahoma has been focusing their efforts on 2019 wide receivers.

One player that Oklahoma has really pushed is Hebron HS (Carrolton, TX) wideout, Trejan Bridges. Bridges has been in constant contact with Oklahoma during this dead period, calling OU once a week to stay in touch. That relationship he has been building with the staff and is paying off with Bridges tentatively set to visit OU on Sept 2nd for the UTEP game.

Recently, Bridges tweeted out that he was close to a decision but he has since stepped back a bit. But that doesn’t mean his interest in OU has waned. He reached out to me after his latest FaceTime session with Lincoln Riley and Dennis Simmons saying, “I had a great time talking with OU again. They talked to my mom today, too.” Bridges added that the conversation made it “one step closer” when it came to him and OU.

Bridges has already visited Oklahoma a couple of times and while the trip to Oklahoma for the first weekend is tentative, Bridges father said definitively they will visit Oklahoma this season.

We asked Bridges’ father what he thought about coach Riley and the recent retirement of coach Stoops to which he gave an excellent and comprehensive response:

Well, obviously coach Stoops is a legend and built one heck of an empire the past 18 years at OU. But I think OU got the right man leading the way in Coach Riley. [He’s] a great coach that knows the game and will continue to keep Oklahoma on top. I see nothing but good things coming from Coach Lincoln Riley. I’m glad he’s in change. Not just a great coach but a great man in general. A honest coach and keeps it one hundred.

Oklahoma is really pushing Bridges to join Spencer Rattler, Jeffery Carter and Austin Stogner in the 2019 class. An unofficial visit in a two weeks might be just what pushes Bridges to make the “decision” he has been hinting at for some time. – (Brandon)

2018 DT | New Name to Know: As the Sooners continue to look for difference makers on the defensive line a new name to file away is that of 2018 DT, Kevin Nelson (Ft. Worth, TX).

Nelson has been almost completely under the radar. In fact he doesn’t appear to be listed in the network recruiting databases. But that doesn’t mean he isn’t being recruited. In fact, his coach tells me that Kevin has a few offers including offers from Arizona State and San Diego State (not a P5 but a school that plays excellent defense).

Nelson tells me that he has begun to hear from TAMU. Also Oklahoma State is expected to stop by sometime in the next week couple weeks.

We are also told that the Sooners are intrigued by Nelson and they are expected to go by and see him in person. I’ll have more on Nelson later but at 6’3 290 lbs, the film speaks for itself. – (Alex)
