The Path to Norman

Gallimore committed to the Sooners way back in January 2015. The Canadian product chose OU over Ohio State, Florida State, Oregon, and several other top programs. Jerry Montgomery was his lead recruiter at the time and a big part of the reason Gallimore chose the Sooners.

Career So Far

Gallimore has had a tough career so far. He redshirted in 2015, then found himself a steady contributor in 2016, starting several games. 2017 looked to be a breakout year, and he started the first five games. Then, injuries began to slow him down and he never fully got back to form.

2018 Season

This looks to be the season for Neville Gallimore to make a big name for himself. Spring testing saw Gallimore run a sub 4.8 40 at 300 pounds – that’s officially not shabby. Spring notes saw Mike Stoops have this to say about the lineman:

“Neville was kind of in and out all year. He had to sit I think, what, three weeks? He’s battled injuries on and off, and he hasn’t been on the field consistently. Just these five days, you could just see he’s just a much more confident. You’re starting to see his skills show up.”

“Every down, he’s starting to play more consistently. He’s been probably our most improved player, I would say, that I’ve seen this far, and now he’s showing the player that we thought he would be.”

Additionally, later notes from Ruffin McNeill had very encouraging things to say:

Assistant head coach/defensive line coach, Ruffin McNeill said Neville Gallimore has the No.1 nose guard position on lockdown. “Having gone through the week to week, wars and battles, pays off,” McNeill said. “I think the position change helped to, moving him to nose. It’s a lot tighter in there and he’s so athletic and has such power that he really took control of the position this spring. Doing a great job for us.”

The middle of the Sooners’ defensive line occasionally had trouble holding their own in 2017, particularly in the bowl game. Gallimore can be a big part of strengthening that spot in 2018.
