First Year Deals and how it Could Impact Recruiting Now
– Super K – Posted on: June 24, 2025
With the new revenue sharing regime beginning this summer but with the old NIL rules still in place, we seem to be caught, for the moment, between the limits of the future and the wild Wild West of the past.
What do I mean?
Well, we have been hearing that some of OU’s competitors for players (like Overton and even Robison and others) are making really big first year NIL offers.
Those are not offers that would necessarily be made next year to the same caliber of player. And, they are numbers that, unless the recruit performs incredibly well in their first year, are too big to maintain.
It seems Nagy and co are making first year offers that better represent what they think they can maintain under the upcoming regime. Perhaps they learned from the David Stone situation that arose a few months back.
I’m not sure which is the best way to play it. I don’t know that it really matters in the long mid to long run. But, it could impact a few recruits who seem more like OU slam dunks.
Something I want to make you all aware of.
Davian Groce | Trending
– Super K – Posted on: June 23, 2025
We have seen some of the buzz about OU and 2026 ATH Davian Groce (Frisco, TX).
Yes we do believe this one is trending OU. He has some huge Sooner fans in his family and I’m told they made that known on some of his non-OU visits.
So, we do like the Sooners in this one.
Overton | Quick Update

As a follow up to the previous post, I did want to clarify an aside I made.
Yes, we are hearing that Oklahoma State has made a sizable first year offer to in-state DT, Tajh Overton.
It certainly could impact his decision.
We are checking to see if the Sooners may decide to up their offer to match.
I don’t know the numbers so I can’t really opine on whether the Sooners should or shouldn’t. I don’t think Overton is a day one ready guy.
I think I’d personally be fine with whatever they decide. I don’t see him as a must get.
Recruiting Updates

A few things here…
***First, as you man know by now, 2026 OL Devan Robison coming off his recent OU visit announced his commitment to TCU.
I noted in an aside, earlier this week that the first year offers being made by some schools may not favor OU and I included both Robison and Overton in that discussion.
***Sooners in-state DL target Tajh Overton is set to announce tomorrow. As I mentioned earlier in the week, we’ve heard that Okie State made a better first year offer than the Sooners.
We have been checking for the past couple days and things have been pretty quiet on the OU side which tells us that either OU is contemplating whether they want to up their offer or they’re willing to let this go in favor of what they might see as a bigger fish later.
I am inclining towards the latter so prepare yourself for that outcome and there’s no crying baseball.
***I know there has been a lot of buzz for the Sooners as it relates to elite pass rusher, Jake Kreul (IMG Academy).
Chavis continues to shine as a DE recruiter and he has OU in a good position here. However, I want to caution that I continue to hear that Kreul is not in any hurry to make a decision.
We noted this last weekend that the Sooners had been trying to push for his to shut things down earlier but I’m not getting the sense that that will happen. It sounds like he might still wait until the fall to decide.
***Finally, a word. Don’t freak out if the Sooners miss on targets like Overton or Robison. Nagy has a certain first year value and they are playing a strategic game. I’m not saying they are right or wrong. I am saying that there is a plan and the Sooners can land these types of players but they’re weighing various factors and making decisions based on their perception of value.
SEC Testing BV | Sourced Thoughts
– Super K – Posted on: June 26, 2025
Earlier this week, I had an interesting conversation with James about how folks he’s talking to foresee this season playing out.
It mostly lined up with what I’m hearing.
As I’ve said over and over, folks inside the building really like their roster. And I’ve said that, on paper, this is a really good team.
You have a much improved OL. You have a great defensive line. You have a talented and experienced QB.
But, as James said to me and I’ve heard the exact same thing, it’s still going to come down to BV’s decision making.
Why?
Because while folks don’t think anyone on the Sooners schedule is definitely better than OU, that doesn’t mean they think OU is going to steamroll everyone they play.
The consensus seems to be the Sooners have the talent to beat anyone they play but there are going to be a lot of close games.
And the feeling is the difference in those close games is going to come down to Brent’s decisions.
TFB Recruiting Randoms | Schmitt, Jefferson, and Ruxer

The Sooners will be learning their fate with a number of targets over the coming days and weeks.
Just want to update and reiterate our position on three of them specifically.
***Start with offensive lineman Deacon Schmitt. Schmitt (6’5 320) out of Windsor, Colorado, is set to announce his decision on June 28th. As we have consistently stated, we feel very positive about the current status with OU and Schmitt, and at this time, we have no reason to feel otherwise.
***2026 JUCO TE Josiah Jefferson (6’5 230) out of Southwestern College (Chula Vista, California) is set to make his next destination known on June 27th. Josiah is the brother of former Sooner great Tony Jefferson and actually Tony had a big hand in drawing OU’s attention to Josiah with a couple public remarks on Twitter, which initiated the Sooners’ pursuit. We believe this one will be a PWO deal from OU, and it appears he is likely to be joining the program.
***Finally, 2026 tight end Tyler Ruxer (6’4 220) out of Lincoln City, Indiana, is set to make his future destination public on July 7th. We have been pretty transparent about our belief that this recruitment ends with Ruxer verbally pledging to the University of Oklahoma.
