2027 Class Speculation | Quarterback
– Charlie S – Posted on: January 14, 2026

Once upon a time, all the rage about the ’27 QB situation for OU was focused on Peyton Houston (5’10.5 200) out of Shreveport, Louisiana.

We (TFB) never bought fully into that notion as LSU was sitting out there and we knew he coveted that offer.

Sure enough, LSU threw its hat in the ring and put a full press on Houston and they wound up receiving his verbal pledge back in September.

Houston showed no signs of flinching when Brian Kelly was fired, and was pleased when Lane Kiffin was hired.

However, in the last week, LSU has received the transfer commitment from former ASU QB Sam Leavitt and today, they picked up former USC 5* freshman Husan Longstreet.

Meanwhile, the Sooners have been taking their time (rightly so) when it comes to the QB position for the ’27 class, as they first checked in with Dane Weber (6’2 210 out of Temecula, CA), and kind of passed, and of late, they have been picking up the tempo on Jamison Roberts (6’2.5 190 out of Saraland. AL).

COULD the arrival of Longstreet in Baton Rouge push Houston to look around? I do not know if that will happen at this time, but I suspect he and his camp will want to see what other options are out there.

OU was a player in his first recruitment, and they were in his final grouping. The Sooners currently have the top class in the country according to some services and they have a ton of momentum on the trail…that should not be lost in this discussion and it likely serves as a bonus for OU currently.

If Houston were to open things back up, I suspect the Sooners would be at or near the top of his list once again. Just something to keep an eye on.

Big Board | Quarterbacks | 2027
– Charlie S – Posted on: January 15, 2026

Time to start rolling out the class of ’27 Big Boards.

We will start with the Quarterback board.

The Sooners have extended 3 offers at this point at Quarterback in the ’27 class:

Quarterbacks (3)

Jamison Roberts – Saraland (Saraland, AL) – 6’2.5 190

Peyton Houston – Evangel Christian Academy (Shreveport, LA) – 5′ 10.5 200 – LSU Commit

Trae Taylor – Carmel Catholic (Mundelein, IL) – 6’3 186 – Nebraska Commit

Commits at this time: 0

Number of commits OU is looking to take out of high school: 1

The picture of the 2027 Big Board for Quarterbacks is pretty clear.

Jamison Roberts is the guy that OU is currently focused on, and the relationship between OU and Roberts is moving along nicely. OU does not seem to be pushing for a commitment all that hard, but both sides are developing the relationship, and the Sooners are the clear leader at this time. Roberts was only offered in November of 2025, so the relationship is still building. Expect Roberts back in Norman for one of the junior days, where the push for a commitment could begin in earnest.

The only other guy I am currently keeping an eye on is Peyton Houston who was very high on OU prior to his commitment to LSU. Since his commitment to LSU, the Tigers have gone through a coaching change, and the new HBC, Lane Kiffin, has brought in two transfer portal QBs in Sam Leavitt and Husan Longstreet. Leavitt is a short-term solution at QB on the Bayou and Longstreet is the long-term hand-picked choice of Kiffin. Will that impact where things stand for Houston and his home state childhood favorites, or will OU look to push a bit and provide him with an attractive option?

We will see how it all plays out, but right now, I would lean toward Jamison Roberts being the QB for the Sooners in the 2027 class.

Portal Notes | January 15th
– Charlie S – Posted on: January 15, 2026

As we noted earlier, the Sooners were hosting a couple of portal visitors today.

***First, Emporia State DB Peyton Taylor made his way to campus. By the sound of things, OU is doing all they can to get this one done early as Taylor has visits set to Arkansas and Tennessee following OU and previously visited Clemson. I’m not going to tell you this one is over, as I do not know, but I can tell you source indicated OU would be pleased if they could close this out.

***As for Tennessee tight end Jack Van Dorselaer, from what I have been told, it sounds like Jason Witten is in a very good spot to land his first commit. Witten has the support of Nagy and his office behind him (feels like that was part of the negotiation lol) and if this is the guy Witten wants, OU will make it difficult for him to say no. I like how this one is setting up for the Sooners, we will see how it goes. (Van Dorselaer committed to OU this morning)
