Yahzeen Zion – Desert Edge (Goodyear, AZ) – 6’4 265
Commits at this time: 2
Elija Harmon
Deven Robertson
Number of commits OU is looking to take out of high school: 3-4
Todd Bates got off to a fast start in the ’27 class with the commits from Elija Harmon and, more recently, Deven Robertson.
Oklahoma is also in very good shape with Zane Rowe, who some count as a defensive end, but we believe he is destined to start his career as an interior player. Rowe was the first commit in the class, then he opened things up. OU never let off and it feels like it is very much trending that he winds up back in the class in pretty short order here.
If/when Rowe re-commits, the Sooners will not cool on their targets still on the board, as they know it is going to be a battle to hold onto Elija Harmon. With that in mind, OU is in solid shape with George Toia, and they are certainly in the picture and within striking distance with Joseph Graves, Luke Starcevic, and Ben’Jarvus Shumaker.
As the cycle progresses, I would also not be shocked to see OU turn up the heat on a couple of other targets, but right now, things are looking like they are in very good shape in regard to restocking the interior defensive line room.
Sourced Team Notes | February 9th
– Charlie S – Posted on: February 9, 2026
The dog days of February are upon us and the team as well.
***Team 132 has been back in workouts for close to a month now and that freshman wall, which happens every year, is showing up as some of the new guys are searching for their second win.
***For freshmen who enroll early (almost all of the Sooners freshmen enrolled early) the rush of getting on campus, testing out, and getting into a groove tends to lose a little of its shine at this point of the year and a dose of reality can slap one in the face a bit.
***This is where leaders step in and pick the guys up and carry them a bit throughout the early mornings and dullness of class/film/position meetings/and workouts.
***Source tells me there are a bunch of guys stepping into those leadership roles and a few of them are transfers. I’m told E’Marion Harris is a guy who is a very strong addition to the culture at this point on the offensive side of the ball and he is serving as a good example for the young offensive linemen. Source tells me EPL/Fasusi/Fodje and the rest of the OL are all taking more ownership in the room and the rest of the guys are finding their way.
***I’m told Kip Lewis and David Stone are driving much of the defensive work and Cole Sullivan is a guy who has gained a good chunk of respect and admiration by the way he handles himself to this point.
***Source says Danny Okoye has noticeably matured physically and mentally and he has really had his magnetic personality on display and has developed into a vocal guy in the workouts. Source says Taylor Wein is pushing and, in turn, carrying some of the leadership weight as well.
***Overall, sounds like there are no real hot spots in regard to hitting that wall, but rather there are a bunch of guys who are finding their way and there appear to be some new leaders stepping in to fill the void of some of the departed voices.
NIL Contracts | Sourced
– Super K – Posted on: February 10, 2026
Just a quick update here on how things are going around the country on the NIL front.
I spoke with a couple people who are deeply involved and here is what I’ve been told.
***Contracts are now mixed – they aren’t strictly NIL and they aren’t strictly revenue sharing. Most of them are something like half and half.
***So, schools still need to be developing the NIL side of their game and that includes trying to get local businesses involved.
***Also, the contracts in general have become more sophisticated. There are incentive clauses. And, behind the scenes some kids are choosing much smaller guaranteed amounts at a school over contracts that look or sound bigger but ultimately rely heavily on performance.
***It does sound like things are still being held up at the clearinghouse level. Just no answer on whether certain deals are legitimate NIL or not.
***Also, a lot more kids seem to be considering their overall prospects instead of just straight dollar signs. Meaning, you need to be able to coach. If one school is offering a guaranteed 1 million and you’re offering 200K, you’re not likely to land the kid. But if it’s 800K vs 500K and the NFL development is far better at the 500K school, then you’re in business.
***Lastly, I continue to hear the term “portal premium” which simply means the additional amount you’re forced to pay to pull a kid out of the portal vs developing within. As an example, right now a top cornerback developed out of high school may cost you around 700 or 800K to hold on to. If you have to get that same kid in the portal, you’re going to need around 1.2 million.
***The name of the game is still talent identification and development.

Continuing with rolling out the class of ’27 Big Boards.
We will move to the EDGE Board.

Interior Defensive Line Big Board
The Sooners have extended a solid number of EDGE offers to the ’27 class:
EDGE Offers:
Krew Jones – Orem (Orem, UT) – 6-4 233 – Oklahoma Commit
Sedrick Marsh – Waxahachie (Waxahachie, TX) – 6’5 230
Samuel Nelson – Bryant (Bryant, AR) – 6’3 220
Santana Harvey – Lakeland (Lakeland, FL) – 6’5 220
DJ Jacobs – Blessed Trinity Catholic (Roswell, GA) – 6’5 225 – Ohio State Commit
KJ Green – Stephenson (Stone Mountain, GA) – 6’4 215
Chris Whitehead – Lloyd C. Bird (Chesterfield, VA) – 6’5 230
Frederick Ards – Jones (Orlando, FL) – 6’5 225
Antwoine Higgins – Anderson (Cincinnati, OH) – 6’3 215
T.K. Cunningham – Grayson (Loganville, GA) – 6’5 230
Myles Smith – Farmington (Farmington, MI) – 6’5 215

Troy Mailo – Mullen (Denver, CO) – 6’3 238
Joshua Williams – Norman North (Norman, OK) – 6-0 / 215
Prince Goldsby – Blue Springs South (Blue Springs, MO) – 6’4 210
Isaac McNeil – Vigor (Mobile, AL) – 6’2 210
Commits at this time: 1
Krew Jones
Number of commits OU is looking to take out of high school: 2 maybe 3
Miguel Chavis got his big dawg early on in this cycle as priority target Krew Jones verbally committed to the Sooners at the end of November.
The next name that immediately jumps off the board is Samuel Nelson, who is the younger brother of current Sooner Matthew Nelson. Nelson and the family are obviously big fans of OU already, feels like it is safe to say OU leads here at this time and I wouldn’t be shocked to see a commitment at any point in the future.
Then it gets interesting. OU offered Sedrick Marsh out of Waxahachie within the last two weeks and source tells me he is expected to be on campus next month. He, along with Prince Goldsby and Santana Harvey, are guys OU seems to be intent on continuing to build momentum with.
At the end of the day,, the Sooners are sitting in a very good position here with Jones already in the fold and the built in advantage with Nelson. If they choose to take three, right now, I think it would come from the group of Marsh, Goldsby and Harvey.
OU has a well-populated EDGE room filled with younger guys, so, in my estimation, the biggest question with the 2027 EDGE class is basically whether OU decides to take two or three.
Quick Sourced Note on Morgan
– Super K – Posted on: February 11, 2026
Sooners reportedly have their new CB coach, in former Michigan DB coach, Lamar Morgan.
Morgan and I have a number of mutual friends, including someone Morgan coached with at a previous stop.
Everyone I’ve talked to say he’s a fantastic coach and should be more than adequate for OU. Have only good things and it’s from people who would be honest with me about their opinions.
Late Night | DeMarco Murray | Frequently Asked Question Answers
– Charlie S – Posted on: February 11, 2026
Before we get into it in the coming days…with Sooners running back coach DeMarco Murray heading off to Kansas City, I thought I could get ahead of things and provide you with some answers to what will be frequently asked questions:
1* No. (You know the question)
2* Yes, I think you could see at least two of the current verbal commits likely open up their recruitments in ’27 RB Keldrid Ben, and ’28 RB Micah Rhodes. These guys are highly coveted and Murray was a big reason they chose OU.
3* Curtis Luper from Missouri would be the first guy I (me, not necessarily Brent) called.
4* No, I am not worried about the state of the OU running back room, in fact I am encouraged about the possibilities some new blood will bring.
5* Yes, it is a very good thing to have coaches poached by the NFL, it is a great reflection on the health of the program.
6* Yes, it is a bit melancholy to see DeMarco leave and he did add a certain amount of clout to OU recruiting, but I do not think it is something OU cannot be better off over in the coming seasons.
7* Yes, I believe OU could end up in a better position, developmentally, in the long and short term.
Running Back Coaches of Interest
– Charlie S – Posted on: February 12, 2026
With the Sooners in the market for a new running back coach in the wake of DeMarco Murray heading to the NFL with the Kansas City Chiefs, it’s time to take a look at some names of guys who could become potential candidates for the job.
DeShaun Foster – Former UCLA head coach, current free agent. OU would not be a bad place for a guy to rehab his image. Has multiple stops as a RB coach, including TTU and UCLA.
Ra’Shaad Samples – Current Oregon RB/Asst Head Coach. OU had been in communication with Samples in the past (for the WR coach position), so it would not be surprising to see OU check in with him.
Jimmy Smith – Recent addition to Georgia Tech staff, much like with Samples, OU vetted him a couple years back when DeMarco was flirting with someone else.
Tashard Choice – Current Detroit Lions RB coach, would be a long shot, but has a connection to BV, and ya can’t score if ya don’t shoot.
Curtis Luper – Current Missouri RB coach. In a price range (605k) that OU could bump and he would be the first guy I called. Dude knows what he is looking at.
James Montgomery – Current Boise State RB Coach with deep west coast ties and a big skin on the wall in Ashton Jeanty.
Mark Atuaia – Current Utah RB coach who has ties with Arbuckle from Washington State
Juice Johnson – Current Assistant Head Coach and Wide Receivers coach at Texas Tech, has RB coaching experience and is a rising star with OC aspirations.
Khenon Hall – Current Baylor associate head coach/running backs coach who is a very strong recruiter and has extensive ties to Texas. His RB room at Baylor has been one of the few bright spots.
