New ’26 WR Offer Planning On Visiting
– Charlie S – Posted on: August 11, 2025

The Sooners extended an offer to ’26 wide receiver Brayden Allen (6’1 170) out of Lafayette, Louisiana on Saturday.

I caught up with Allen yesterday, and he let me know he has an unofficial visit to Norman planned for September 20th, the weekend of the Auburn game. He also said he is very interested in officially visiting at some point. Brayden said he and Emmett Jones have been in on-and-off communication since the spring, and OU recently turned up the heat, which resulted in the offer being extended.

Allen is currently committed to Tulane, and programs like Colorado, Ole Miss, and Vanderbilt have picked up communication of late.

I got the sense that he was very excited about the offer and the possibility of playing at OU. Should the Sooners push here, it feels like they could find themselves in the top spot in short order.

What the NFL Thinks of Alabama and Missouri
– Super K – Posted on: August 12, 2025

As you know, I’ve been passing along information I received from some insider NFL scouting sources on how OU’s opponents look on paper.

Again, keep in mind these scouts focus on upperclassmen.

To summarize, you might say on paper the Sooners…

***Look better than Texas

***Worse than LSU

***Auburn is a tough one because the overall upper class talent for OU is better but the NFL loves Auburns OL and they like their front seven as well.

***Look better than Michigan though the NFL does like Michigan’s defensive talent.

So let’s take a quick look at Alabama and Missouri and then hopefully we can finish this out by the end of the week and get into predictions next week…

***Both insider NFL scouting reports love Alabama’s talent. They have a lot of it and it’s diverse. They have the DL, LBs, WRs, etc.

***One of the services has Bama with a little more upper class talent than OU. The other service has Bama and OU neck and neck tied.

***If it really is that close, then you’d like to think Mateer would make the difference.

***Either way, when OU plays Bama (no surprise) they will be playing one of the most talented teams on their schedule.

***As far Missouri goes, the services seem pretty spit. One of them has Missouri lagging behind OU by a lot – though they do love their DL. The other service has them slightly behind OU.

***My read of the report is that Missouri is going to be talented – they aren’t going to be a Big 12 team. There is NFL talent there and plenty up front. But on paper, the Sooners are better and they will likely have a lot more draft picks this cycle.

Sourced Team Notes | August 12th
– Charlie S – Posted on: August 12, 2025

Checked in with a source today to see how things have been going at practice the last couple of days.

***First, the RB room was bolstered by the return of Xavier Robinson on Monday. Taylor Tatum remains on the shelf with an iffy hamstring, apparently. Source said X Rob has looked good. Was told Jaydn Ott could be out there, but OU is exercising caution there. So, almost back to full strength.

***Was told the defense has continued to dominate the trenches overall of late and the young guys on the OL are getting baptized under fire. Source noted that Simmons, Taylor, and Sexton are suiting out, but the young guys are taking the live reps for the most part with Fasusi at LT with the ones and Howland pushing Baklenko down the depth chart at RT. Was led to believe all the OL on the shelf should be back for the rest of the week.

***As many of you heard Bill Bedenbaugh note yesterday, both Howland and Ozaeta had one of their better practices yesterday and today, Ozaeta was running with the ones at LG, with EPL running with the twos. Nwaiwu was at RG and Fodje backing him up.

***Isaiah Sategna, Manny Choice, Josiah Martin, and Elijah Thomas have all been busy this week, and they have been the playmakers at WR. Sounds like Burks still has the bubble wrap on him and will likely get spot reps over the rest of the camp to keep him healthy for the season.

***Source noted that Peyton Bowen and Kendal Daniels have had a very good start to the week. Was told Bowen has gotten his hands on a couple picks. On Daniels, I was told he has really taken to the Cheetah spot this week, and he is playing very fast and free and had a couple of pressures off the edge while also doing well in coverage.

***Was told there were a lot of guys who got the day off today. Most were suited out, but this certainly was one of those practices where OU was intentionally giving some guys breathers.

***No new significant injuries remains one of the better things I have heard to this point.

***Second scrimmage of the camp will be tomorrow evening.

State of Recruiting Ahead of the Season
– Charlie S – Posted on: August 13, 2025

The Sooners landed one of their remaining priority targets yesterday in EDGE Jake Kreul.

The list of outstanding, longtime, uncommitted priority targets is small…

Here is the entire list:

***DT T-Ron Richardson (6’3 295) out of Hopewell, Virginia. Richardson officially visited Norman back on June 6th and he has also OV’d with Penn State, Va Tech, Syracuse, and South Carolina. On the surface, OU has put itself in solid standing with Richardson, but as he noted himself in multiple interviews, the NIL is really starting to pick up. What lengths will the Sooners go to in order to secure his pledge? We will see. He is scheduled to announce his choice on August 26th.

Now, a couple of prospects who are committed elsewhere:

***As you know, the Sooners offered Tulane wide receiver commit Brayden Allen last Saturday and as I reported, he is planning on getting to Norman early in the season. Allen told me he planned on visiting for the Auburn game, but now he has indicated he will also be visiting for Illinois State. Have to wonder if Auburn will get turned into an OV should OU like what they see if he makes it in for Illinois State.

***Finally, the Sooners offered linebacker Jacob Curry, a Northwestern commit, on July 22nd and they have been chasing a visit from Curry. So far, nothing has been set up to my knowledge, but I think you could see that change here in the coming days. Should the Sooners get him on campus, I like their chances to further expand their emerging Florida pipeline.

With all that said, I think you will likely see a couple of in-season offers extended, and I am sure OU is working on several other players who are committed to other schools.

I am keeping an eye on the following positions for additional offers: Offensive line, Interior defensive line, Wide receiver, Safety, and maybe another linebacker.

Quick Sourced Team Notes | August 13th Scrimmage
– Charlie S – Posted on: August 13, 2025

On the road back home, so hopefully this posts.

Just wanted to pass along a couple notes before I get to my laptop.

***Source said ‘All good’ when I asked about any new injuries, so that’s a bonus.

***Quick overview…from what I have gathered, the offense had a big night. ‘Best showing of fall camp’ when I asked about the offense.

***Offensive line was ‘very, very good’. OL was L-R: Fasusi – Ozaeta – Everett – Nwaiwu – Howland.

Should be home in a half an hour or so, will type up what I have then.

***As noted above, source tells me the offense had a really good night with mutiple big plays.

***Source said the run game was on point and each of the backs who ran (have not found out who all played, but I know Blaylock and Barnes did) had impressive nights and the true freshman found pay dirt on at least one occasion.

***Source said Mateer was ‘money’….fitting…and tonight was a night where he showed off his work inside the pocket more than his improv on the run. Was told he did find Ivan Carreon for a nice gain on a scramble where Carreon did really nice work in a timely fashion to give him a target.

***Sounds like the entire receeiving corps stepped up and there were no costly drops. So they reverted back to how they have been for most of the fall as opposed to the first scrimmage where they had multiple drops. Thats good to hear.

***Was told the defense was playing a lot of young guys on the back end and they were ‘pretty basic’ with their calls, but was told the starting front seven was out there, so do not write this off as the defense taking the night off.

***As for the offensive line, source said “The way they played tonight, this group here, they can win ya some games”. Sounds like this group was really working with cohesion and purpose.

***Was told Kendal Daniels continues his impressive play with a couple TFLs and a PBU on a ball targeted for Jaren Kanak. Source said the pass was a half a tick late, but if it was on target and out front, Kanak had a lot of acreage in front of him.

***Was told there were three turnovers. Two picks and one fumble. Peyton Bowen with a pick of Mateer and Michael Boganowski with a pick of Hawkins (I believe). Still not sure on the fumble.

***Source said “The right side of the line (offensive) dominated in both the run game and pass sets. Was told ‘It all clicked for them’ and those three (Howland/Febechi/Everett) were really in lock step.

***Lastly…Source said “Howland may not give that spot back. Simmons still out and he may have to look for a new spot when he gets back” – Yes, I smiled.

A Fall Camp of Youth Movement
– Charlie S – Posted on: August 14, 2025

As fall camp enters the final stretch and game prep will begin here shortly, I was sitting back thinking about the youth on the team and how much buzz there has been around them.

Looking at the two deep (projected), you see it littered with first and second year players, at basically every position except for one room on each side of the ball.

QB – Sophomores – Hawkins, Newbauer
RB – True freshman – Blaylock + sophomores Robinson and Tatum
WR – True Freshmen – Elijah Thomas and Manny Choice
TE – Eh, Trynae won’t be in the two deep initially, but he has gotten some nice reviews
OL – True freshmen – Michael Fasusi and Ryan Fodje, RS freshman EPL
DT – True Freshman – Trent Wilson may be the guy who plays David Stone’s role from last year, plus sophomores Stone and Jackson
EDGE – Sophomore – Danny Okoye
LB – The one spot on defense you wonder about
CB – True freshman – Courtland Guillory, RS Freshmen Jeremiah Newcombe, Sophomore Eli Bowen and Devon Jordan
S – True Freshman Omarrion Robinson, Sophomores Hardy, Powers, Boganowski

That is quite cool to see and it should pay off down the line.

I am sure I missed a couple of young guys as well. But this is the process you need to build a program, which is why you need to stack recruiting classes on top of each other and not rely heavily on the portal for multiple cycles in a row.

Quick Hitter | Tank Carrington
– Charlie S – Posted on: August 14, 2025

Ok so I know many of you saw On3’s Steve Wiltfong put in a prediction for the Sooners to land recent FSU defensive tackle decommit Tank Carrington.

Source I spoke with earlier today confirmed OU was in communication and reengaged with Tank after walking back from that recruitment earlier in the summer.

Source also said that things are happening quickly and Carrington could make an announcement as early as this weekend.
