Trey Carter Commits to OSU (Updated with notes)

Got confirmation just now that DE Trey Carter has committed to Oklahoma State. Trey visited OSU this past weekend and has made his commitment to the cowboys.

Now that the commitment has happened we can speak a little more freely about Trey Carter and Oklahoma. Coach Montgomery loved Trey Carter’s game but he also loved Orso and OU was only looking to take one more DE. And since there are concerns about Trey qualifying the obvious choice was to go with Orso.

This was not a situation where OSU beat OU out for a recruit. This was a situation where OU had other concerns and had an excellent player also available to them.

Flippable? Are we even interested still?

    Is this surprising to you?

Not at all. We knew OSU was pressuring for the commitment and we knew the situation with OU. I’ve added some notes above to clarify things.

I can live with this, not that anyone at OU would feel better than I can. OU has players on campus who can play valuable roles in the DE position.

Yeah OU is done this year at DE. If it weren’t for the concerns over qualifying they would have taken Trey and Trey was high on Oklahoma.

So if you could get either Carter or Orso for sure, but could only get one, which would you guys choose? Was it Carter first choice until the concerns over him qualifying or a coin flip and the concerns made a bigger push toward Orso?

OU found out about Carter first because he was more local. I can’t say who they would have preferred. Both are huge. Both athletic. Carter is more refined inside because his father played D1 ball. Orso looks more “natural” than Carter does as they get further from the ball. Carter is a little quicker off the ball as an A and B gap player which is where both would play for us. Definitely could argue this one back and forth and its a tough one because Carter has had more football development in his life than Orso. In the end how far either of them goes depends on how they develop mentally, how hard they work and who coaches them because they’re both high ceiling athletes.

Good. That’s what I was hoping to hear. I don’t mind if it just comes down basically to development.
