Trench Warfare | OU vs. KSU (4th Quarter)
1. Starting the fourth quarter, we see young Mr. Farniok for the first time.  I thought he stepped in and did really well, but there’s a couple of things he’ll have to clean up.  Here, he’s lunging a little bit, and his hands are down.  I’d like to see ’em bend those knees a little bit more and get those hands up.  Against a good pass rusher here, the old butt and tug gets em or against a good hand fighter he’s in trouble.

1. (cont.) A tick later, if he’s sunk in the chair and has his hands up, his punch stuns that guy, but since he’s out over his feet a bit, he has to end up chasing a little.  This is where Reggie White used to do that club move with that left hand…

1. (cont.) As Trevor’s throwing though, you see Derek is athletic enough to re-establish leverage, and he has the advantage again.  I’m still a fan of Farniok, and I think he’ll get better and better.

2. After a great punt of our own, a three and out by our defense, and then a bad punt by them, it completed a four or five minute stretch that really determined the outcome of the game.  This is a combination of a horrible punt, and Jalen being an excellent returner.  Last week we saw him take a chance against Iowa State, and he did it here again.  The K-State guys had to be thinking there wasn’t a way he’d field that thing without a fair catch, but he caught it in full stride…

2. (cont.) Jalen’s gonna catch heck for letting the punter knock him out of bounds.

3. The far right arrow is Derek Farniok.  He got great movement initially at the point of contact.  I’d like to see him swing those hips outa little to his left, and post up that left hand stronger.  The defender wouldn’t be able to throw him off that way.  Still down by the goal line, that’s a great block.  See Nila, Bronson and Rip with great blocks as well.

3. (cont.) Great blocks by Bronson and Rip here that open the really wide lane for Brennan to go score.  Great job down by the goal line, where you earn your keep as an o lineman.

4. Trevor finished the game going 14 of 21.  Here on 3rd and 4 in a big spot, right after they had scored to bring it to a ten point game, he just steps up confidently, and throws a 10 yard bullet to Neal.  Neal has been one of my favorites since I saw his hs film.  We gotta get him more touches.

5. On what was probably the last productive play of the game, Brennan gets to 200 yards.  Great blocking getting this thing opened up for him.  I can’t say enough about what Coach Bedenbaugh has done, and the play calling improvement by Coach Heupel.  Hopefully he’ll turn Trevor loose in the option game next week.

Great breakdown on Farinok. That’s what I’ve been wondering about for a bit now. Seems like he’s still a bit raw, but could be ready to step in next year. I don’t feel JC kids are ever fully ready to start for at least three games at this level. We’ll need Farinok badly no matter what JC kids we sign.

finally got a chance after the holiday to catch up on the warfares! excellent game to review! Wondering about looking ahead to OSU how their Dline compares to KSU? Better/Worse? Will we be able to manhandle like this? I know a lot of it is attitude and execution, but since it’s Bedlam I’ll make the grand assumption both of those are in place for us…if we call this type of game I don’t see how we lose Saturday.
