ICYMI: OU picked up a 2015 commit yesterday in ATH Dalton Wood (will be a TE for OU), who everyone is already calling the next Blake Bell. (McAlester News)
OU opened yesterday as a 6 point favorite over TCU and that line (somewhat oddly, IMO) immediately dropped. Now as low as Sooners (-4) at the time of posting this. (Vegas Insider)
Timely bye week reporting as The Oklahoman gets OU fans’ #HotSportsTakes on the alternate unis. (NewsOK)
Charlie Weis…..you’re fired /Donald Trump voice & cobra strike. (KU Sports)
And here is a national writer suggestion Josh Heupel as a possible replacement for Weis. (CBS Sports)
I’m willing to listen to anyone who’d like to try and argue ESPN doesn’t have an OU and/or SEC bias. You’d be wrong…..but I’m willing to listen.

Taaadaaaaa! Texass sucks.
Well, we have to make sure we win by two touchdowns. Just saying. As for ESPN, even the 900 pound gorilla reign will end. In my opinion, it’s the beginnining of the end. The SEC makes up 1/4 of the nation. I think people will start to tire of this nonsense and vote with their wallets.
Would agree but I’ve noticed they throw the top 2 or 3 teams in the other power 5 a bone, but when it come to the Big XII they OU and Baylor are good and then start talking about another conference. Usually the SEC but not always. I think they are in on trying to destroy the Big XII.
Maybe it’s just all about TV rights/sales. From what I can tell, ESPN has contracts to show at least some games with every major conference except the BigXII, which is exclusive to FOX. Therefore, the BigXII is the only conference they don’t have a vested (TV $) interest in.
Are you just now getting that.
ESPN must be the most productive organization there is: I didn’t think it was possible for so many people to come to such a singular opinion (SEC dominance:wink, wink). Or, maybe they need some “Diversity and Inclusion” training.
espn is like the weather man…..they both get paid to be wrong.
I don’t know much about how the odds are figured up on the gambling lines. TCU beat up,a really really bad SMU team. They seem to have found some offense this year. Perhaps their win over Minnesota gained some type of meaning after what the gophers did to Michigan Saturday. ESPN has been crowing this could be a loss for OU so maybe there is that too.
During the Georgia -Tennessee game, there was so much SEC love I thought I was going to puke. When one sec team beats another they talk how that demonstrates the high level of parity in that league. During the TT – OSU game there wasn’t much talk like that. In fact that toe jam of announcer Palmer (how he keeps his job is beyond anything logical) said it was games like this that hurt the big12’s national reputation.
I don’t gamble but friends that do say Vegas could care less who wins and loses, lines are set and adjusted to get even money bet on both teams. It amazes me how often they are right based on this tactic.
True. As I understand it, setting that line is based on pure economic interests and not on a detailed evaluation. Moving that line does as you say, gets the odds back in the house’s favor. Being right is what keeps them in business.
This is it. The objective of the Book is to have equal amounts bet on both sides and to collect the juice. They move the line to encourage more wagering on the other side until they get an equal balance.
Sure. And the betting line probably changed as some people bought in to the ESPN talking heads pushing TCU over OU and placed bets. You could lose a LOT of money listening to the so called analysts on that network and betting on their silly statements. “West Virginia will win over OU because of their special teams play.” More money for me!
Tenn wins that game if their QB doesn’t miss the 3Q, IMO.
Officially done with ESPN’s crap. Going to NDSU for gameday, then posting the 4 SEC teams in the top 4 and subsequently trying to justify it afterwards did it for me. F**k ESPN!
I don’t understand that OU/TCU line. I saw that last night, and almost unloaded on OU. There are games on our schedule that worry me more than this one. If OU can’t cover that spread, we aren’t anywhere close to the team I, and most others, thought we were.
I can see the OU-TCU game being a lot like the WVA game. Not so much the way OU played but by not putting it away until mid fourth quarter.
That’s what get’s me about ESPN. It would be one thing if the SEC as a whole was playing good football and just look overall dominant but they don’t. You can really tell that ESPN is really having to work hard to promote their conference. It’s like listening to a guy tell a fishing story, but you are looking at a picture of his fish and it just doesn’t match the one in his story.
TCU beat Minnesota, Minnesota beat Michigan, therefore TCU is a real team. This is the logic I have heard from a few people I know who are TCU fans…the problem is, while traditionally, someone beating Michigan is a big deal, they are 2-3….their only wins came against Appalachian State and Miami of the Ohio variety. Neither school has much to throw at anyone this year, and every other game has been a straight beating. Michigan is down, real down. Anyone beating them is not an accomplishment. Hoke will be gone at the end of the year, I would put any spread on that cause he is going to get fired, especially after the injury situation Saturday.
But back to my point, TCU is probably better than a lot of people thought at the beginning of the year, but they have yet to play any real competition either. -4…..really? We atleast played WVU and Tennessee, two at the very least, mid level of competition programs, those that can sneak up on you. TCU has not played in the bracket IMO. I am not scared for Saturday. Give Optimus Perine the rock and let him get that -4 point spread for you with 8 guys hanging on for dear life, the other 3 were the lucky ones who fell off.
SEC bias. No kidding. Maybe it’s just me, and I know it’s been bad for a long time, but it seems like it gets worse every year, and this year notably so.
Because the Big 12 is reemerging as the preeminant football conference ESPN is seeing a zombie. They thought they killed the Big 12 by purchasing Missouri and A&M and planting the Longhorn Network. FOX saved the day and the Big 12 is rapidly rising led by the Sooners.
Another thing about the bias toward the SEC – Alabama is getting a lot of love (Some people now ranking them #1) for beating up on Florida. Personally I find that beyond absurd. I don’t see anything to suggest that this Gator team is any better than they were last year, and last year they went 4-8 including a home loss to Georgia Southern as well as a 17 point loss to Vandy. Florida may have talent, but they still suck. And the only other team of substance Bama beat was WVU by 10. After the way Tennessee went to Georgia and shook holy hell out of the Bulldogs this should be a no brainer: Oklahoma right now has the better resume. I don’t see how any media “journalist” with an ounce of professional integrity could really deny this.
I’m not asking for Howard Cosell (Think we all gave up on that idea long ago) – just asking for some intelligent sports reporters who aren’t Nick Saban/SEC sycophants. I really don’t think that’s too much to ask.
I hope it continues and ou gets another shot to show bama can’t stop this team.
I don’t know why I’m so anxious, but they need to release the OU/ut start time.
11am. Sweet.
Breakfast corndogs again, hmmm.
At preseason I felt 3 games OU could lose. WVU, TCU, and Baylor.
Heupel to Kansas makes a lot of sense to me. He’s young, has a ton of Big XII experience, and despite laying a few eggs (notably Texas last year) overall the Sooners have put up a ton of points since he’s been calling plays. He’ll probably have to be a position coach too and there isn’t a better QB coach out there. That could actually work out pretty well. Money is a big factor too. KU still on the hook for Weis’ salary for a few more years, so effectively they’ll have to pay the next coach a lot more than they paid Weis. Since Heupel hasn’t ever been a HC they can probably get him within the range that the BOD will pay. Stoops isn’t going anywhere for awhile, so short of winning a national title (fingers crossed) Josh has probably done as much at OU as he’s going to. I think this would be a great opportunity for him.
