FOOTBALL

The yards, TDs, and physical domination were all impressive, but Samaje Perine’s humility after all those things was the most impressive, IMO. (TW)

More evidence of that here in Perine’s postgame interview. (SSTV)

ICYMI Saturday night, Michael Hunnicutt became OU’s all-time leading scorer. (Transcript)

Another ICYMI, the GameDay feature on Eric Striker.

Nice piece here on all the family Charles Tapper had in attendance Saturday night. (SSTV)

Texas & Ok. State are slightly over two touchdown favorites this weekend. (Vegas Insider)

I’m curious when other sports media services are going to start calling out ESPN and their blatant promotion of the SEC conference. A one loss Georgia gets more consideration than an OU, FSU, Oregon, and even Baylor? Auburn is on the list despite needing multiple gifts just to get by a 3rd or 4th place KSU team?

Fan’s can’t do anything about the ESPN bias besides stop watching(which many have already done), but the biggest impact could be made if they started getting called out by media outlets, both national and local.

I hope all the NFL draft pundits don’t get overly giddy about Striker and start talking like he is the second coming of the on-field version of Lawerence Taylor and rate him a high first round draft choice. Don’t get me wrong, I wish him success in the next level. But I remember all the tv analyst raving about Jefferson as the nations top safety or in that group. Though he has proved many wrong by his play with the Cardinals he lost tens of thousands of dollars by coming out when he did and then went undrafted. I know I am getting way ahead of myself but Striker needs another year to develop as that hybrid linebacker.

    • Sooner Ray says:

My selfish self would agree, I want everyone on this D to play through their Sr. year. I think it would only help them at the next level. I would understand if they felt a personal need to go but I want to see them go down in history as one of the greatest D’s to play the game.

      • blaster1371 says:

In Striker’s case, the fact his momma moved heaven and earth to get her degree may be a strong influence on him to stay and graduate, hopefully with a degree that is in something applicable to the real world. Philips may be the only one on this defense that I can see possibly going a year early. Tapper has almost gone unmentioned the last two or three games.

        • Zack says:

Well for striker and tapper and Phillips we have to remember this is actually their 4th year and they probably will have a degree this year. As far as tapper not having his name called a lot you may be right but I think teams are focusing on him with double teams which I think is leading to ndulue having a great senior year.

    • Kelsta says:

The good news is tv coverage and ‘journalist mentions’ aren’t going to drastically affect his (or others) evaluations by the league. The bad news is it can affect a players thoughts on when to enter the league. Striker is a unique guy with a unique set of skills. I haven’t looked but I’m guessing there would be concerns about how he translates to the league. I’m more worried about Tapper or Phillips leaving early, regardless of the media mentions.

Love Flea. Thanks for posting that, Jordan!

And I’ll leave a Finebaum tweet here to stir the pot. From yesterday, “Fairly disappointing to see ONLY 4 SEC West schools in top 10 in new AP poll.” Later tweeted that the FPI picture above with Bama, A&M, Auburn, & Georgia “would be some 4-team playoff.”

Hope y’all have a great day and Boomer Sooner!

I looked for Rosses reactions to Perine’s touchdown runs when the camera flashed to the sidelines. He was hollering and whooping it up more than I was. Whatever Gundy says to these guys when they are in the RB group needs to be bottled and sold in stores every where. What would business, school, community and this nation be like if everyone was about country and without those that have a double case of “me-itis”?

    • ToatsMcGoats says:

We saw the same type of behavior between Knight and Bell last season. We’ve got a good bunch of kids. Glad the rock stars have been weeded out.

    • leatherneck1061 says:

Saw that too….was really great to see such team first enthusiasm.

  • Jared Tyra says:

Don’t really understand that FPI load of BS… It doesn’t even correlate with ESPN’s own CFB power rankings which have OU at #1.

  • Kevin Burger says:

Georgia is the only 1 loss team in the fpi top 10. The next highest one loss teams? LSU at 12, USC at 13.

  • OUWade says:

I actually expected something similar to this, when I clicked on the link of the high school kid making me believe I can fly. Of course, his speech was much more inspiring.

Jordan, If you would be so kind, please update us on injuries once a week or so if you can. I lose track of how guys are doing after the first three games or so. Thanks in advance

    • ToatsMcGoats says:

Yeah, and what ever happened with Derrick Woods’ injury??

      • Tyler Foster says:

Seem like we never hear about derrick woods at Ou it would be wise to play him more at receiver

        • ToatsMcGoats says:

Especially since the others haven’t made a huge impact. I’ve heard he’s a really hard worker…would love to see him get a chance.

      • Jordan Esco says:

Bob said he was fine and then he didn’t play Saturday.

Off the top of my head, here is who I can remember:
Woods – ? after this past wknd, but I’d expect him back for TCU
Dimon – it’s his elbow I believe, hasn’t played last two games. Bob didn’t update him today, maybe back for TCU
Walker – Bob doubled his time table to 4-6 weeks, so he won’t be back until at least after Texas I’m thinking
Ford – Bob said he wouldn’t practice this week, but they haven’t ruled him out for TCU yet. Though after Sat, I wouldn’t expect them to rush him back.
Wade – have never heard about an injury, don’t know why he didn’t play Sat. i presume this is more doghouse than anything.
T.Evans – Stoops addressed him at today’s presser.

        Am I missing anyone else?

  • Brian says:

That FPI is ridiculous – If you’re gonna be an SEC-Homer, at least get the right top 4 teams. The best SEC win so far this year is Miss St beating LSU in Death Valley at night. Miles is 44-3 at night in Death Valley. And the same win that Georgia gets so much credit for…your reigning National Champion has under its belt as well and they haven’t lost to a garbage team that had trouble beating Vanderbilt (who got stomped by a horrible Temple team to open the season)!

  • ToatsMcGoats says:

Seriously, though? Flea is an effing genius!

  • Roger Nixon says:

Wow. Ross catches the ball at the 12 second mark, crosses the goal line at the 22 second mark. IN PADS & DODGING TACKLERS.

    • Krys Allen says:

Well, it was 1:20 and 1:08 by my cound, so 12 sec 100 meter in pads carrying the rock and dodging tacklers. That is flying!

    • Jed says:

Nothing says it better than when he split the two defenders and they simply didn’t believe his speed and were made to look silly.
Speed kills. I’m sure Josh is on it, but this guy needs to be gotten into space. I love Ford and Perine, but Ross is a weapon, too.

  • dallassooner says:

I know this has nothing listed above man but I’m still fuming over the Florida State WInston coverage by ESPN and ABC. Why highlight the guy all night? They treated him like an injured hero rather than a guy that was suspended. Every time Florida State did something good they panned to him for his reaction and of course showed him celebrating and running off the field to the locker room after the game. Ridiculous.

    • Neworleanssooner says:

They fawn over him like a teenage girl over a boy band and they do it under the guise of “journalism”. It’s sickening and further highlights the bad things in CFB instead of all the good that CFB IS!!

No comparison with the BS that spews out of JW’s mouth and the amazing and extremely humble post-game interview of Perine.

      • ToatsMcGoats says:

What would they do if someone like Knight, Shepard, or Perine won the Heisman? These kids are all the quite, humble type…wouldn’t be much there in the way of drama.

    • soonermusic says:

The subtext as I read it of Jimbo’s comments was that the problem was that Winston got caught, not how he behaved. “We don’t condone what he said, or where and when he chose to say it…”

I think it’s the only time I’ve ever seen a player suspended by the school for misbehavior allowed in the stadium. Not only that they treat him like he’s an honored “student-coach.” He shows up in jersey and pads, and even after they decide maybe that doesn’t look so good, he’s still in jersey, inserting himself at every opportunity. It’s hopeless over there.

    • leatherneck1061 says:

I think just about everyone is sick of hearing about Jameis at this point. And ESPiN just won’t let us forget him. So nauseatingly typical.

    • Jon Nakata says:

Forde is just as bad, he usually will NOT say anything nice about Oklahoma (pretty sure he is from Texas). I was surprised to see him put us in his top4 so early.

  • Big Higg says:

My aunt pointed out to me today that there are a couple of meanings for the name “Perine”: reliable and rock. Both very fitting I’d say lol

  • dallassooner says:

Another interesting thing that I noted this weekend while watching the top teams is I don’t feel like there is that “unbeatable” squad this year. Bama, Oregon, us, and Florida State have all showed some weaknesses this season. Should be a fun year.

    • SoonerfanTU says:

Good point. Most years, it is pretty obvious who the best team, or 2 teams are. I’m not sure that is the case this year. Oregon seems less explosive on O, and downright mediocre on D. Bama isn’t as good as they have been. Yet at least. FSU hasn’t impressed. Nor has Auburn. It really is kind of wide open.

      • ToatsMcGoats says:

“Most years, it is pretty obvious who the best team, or 2 teams are. I’m not sure that is the case this year.” That’s not what Klatt said!
