Did Lee Roy Selmon have the greatest individual season in OU history? (ESPN)

Quality post on the differences between Year 1 & 2 in the 3-4 for this OU defense. (BH)

Ruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuufus (h/t to TFB reader BigJoeBrown)

It’s like Charlie Strong is using the new coach’s cliche handbook. I’m quite sure Texas fans are eating it up, but I find stuff like this to just be corny. (DMN)

TCU’s Devonte Fields will reportedly meet with school/team officials today regarding his future. (Fox Sports)

Varsity Blues oral history on its 15-year anniversary. (NFL)

Been done, or at least some variation, but always good for a laugh.

RECRUITING

ICYMI:

https://twitter.com/TheFranchize__/status/496458511598252032

And OU missed out on yet another 2015 OT as Pat Allen committed to Georgia last night (though he was probably a pretty long shot to begin with).

BASKETBALL

OU’s Ryan Spangler tops this list of CBB players who could have gone the football route. (ESPN)

OTHER

I’m undecided here, but Ron Swanson’s involvement is never a bad thing.

I’m no dietician, but I am just guessing this probably isn’t very healthy.

Not to be a turd, but in you guys’ interview with Pat Allen, you told us “We asked him what kind of chance they have at landing his commitment, and he said OU has a ‘great chance’.” How did he suddently become a “pretty long shot”?

    • JY says:

Recruiting is a funny game. We were able to report what he told us. People change their minds all the time, and he wanted to go to GA.

      • Gary Robbins says:

Very true at the time TFB talked to him OU probably had a great chance. The next day no chance at all. Just keep up the reports and thanks to the TFB crew. It sure has shortened up the slow time in summer.

    • Jordan Esco says:

That was strictly my opinion, one which has become jaded over a long time of following recruiting. I’ve just come to not put a lot of weight into what most kids have to say, especially when said kids are teenagers.

That and there are obviously more than one of us here contributing to the site and we all have our own opinions. And those opinions don’t always agree. So while one of us may feel like OU has a great shot with a kid, another one of us may feel like there’s no chance in h-e-double hockey sticks.

Having worked with high school kids for 22 plus years I find a vast majority think in terms of extreme poles- very “hot” about this and ice cold about that and rarely somewhere in the contemplative middle.

        • Jed says:

A high school team mate of mine who has gone on to a successful career and a rewarding hobby of coaching in Pennsylvania commented that, “It is impossible to overestimate the potential for stupid decision making among 18-22 year-old males.” And he has two beloved sons.

    • Indy_sooner says:

Fair question. A better illustration would be Jamile Johnson’s constant reassurances, only for him to decommit yesterday. Words are empty these days

    • J.K. Abbott says:

That’s why I wouldn’t worry about recruiting, commitments, visits O versus u blah blah blah. The inly day it matters is NSD and what the kids do when they get on Campus. I read all the time where and when posters get mad because a recruit who was a ” Heavy Lean” commits somewhere else. Seriously how did anyone know that said kid was a “Heavy Lean”.. What does Heavy Lean even mean??

      • Gary Robbins says:

Sooner fan since ’71 I just started following recruiting these past few months(thanks to TFB). I have learned patience and wait till February. A “heavy lean” means nothing but a 330# ot who walks crooked!

  • Eric Hoffpauir says:

You might laugh at the horns having to earn the logos on their helmets, but look at what that tradition has done for the Dallas Cowboys since Parcells installed it in 2007.

    • blaster1371 says:

And what has it done for the Cowboys since 2007?

    • TY says:

get them 3 8-8 seasons in a row?

    • soonermusic says:

All that stuff is pretty much a no lose proposition for him. He needs to do something to get everyone’s attention. So he does a bunch of meaningless stuff, but pretends heavy significance. If it doesn’t work, it doesn’t matter what he did, cause he’s in trouble anyway. If the the team does well, he’s a genius motivator. I agree with Jordan that it’s a little corny.

    • Indy_sooner says:

      DGB I take it?

      • Jordan Esco says:

        yep

        • Indy_sooner says:

Thanks, I figured. Not being captain obvious, but the dude is deceptively fast…I remember his peculiar running style/ long strides from his HS recruiting tape. You just throw it in the general vicinity and he comes down with it. Ridiculous cover.

Side note: The Swagcopter BS started with this cat and MO, not A&M. DGB was sold the moment Pinkel landed that bird and took him for a joyride.

      • Jed says:

Jordan, context is needed for those of us who aren’t quite running on eight cylinders this morning….

  • Jeremy Phillips says:

May have been covered in the post practice notes, but if you have FSOklahoma they have a playbook show with some practice highlights.. They showed the one handed DGB catch that TFB reported earlier.. Anyway, if you can dvr FSO around 5, that’s when it was on yesterday.

  • blaster1371 says:

About the logo thing. I don’t know if y’all saw it but the Texass football preseason g
Team Guide a misspelled Texass at the bottom of every page (spelled it Texsa). Wouldn’t be hilarious if on the first home game they got their logos but it was upside down? I know it would never happen but A man can dream right?

  • blaster1371 says:

I want to thank Blatant Homerism for not using the Texass game to make his point. That would not be the way to start my day.

  • Josh says:

I saw that Boz commercial yesterday and just about died laughing! I’m switching to Dish Today!!

    • Jared William Reininger says:

Don’t. Funny commercials are about the only thing they do right IMO. It does make me want to go eat an old fashioned diner though.

  • ToatsMcGoats says:

I have a couple of questions, the first of which I asked yesterday, or the day before and didn’t get an answer:

1)What did the “mystery guest” think about the visit?

    2) Is there any truth to the rumor that I’m starting that says Samaje Perine lifted a station wagon with one hand while using the other to eat live game?

  • BigJoeBrown says:

What a great article on Varsity Blues. That film was vital and we must have worn that VHS tape thin. Playing class 2A football where it was the biggest thing going on no matter how the season went, we related to the film in more ways than we should.

  • rphdenton says:

……didn’t get answered yesterday………with the new tfb guy on board………

……………..1)…..you now have access to all media events? 2) how about attending practices the media are allowed to view?…….thxs

    • Jordan Esco says:

The only practice the media are allowed to attend was today, for 15 minutes. Very little happened as you’d expect.

As to permanent media access, I do not believe that is the case. But of course we’ll continue to make every effort to be where we can, when we can.

      • rphdenton says:

        thxs………..

      • paganpink says:

Jordan, at the risk of sounding redundant, I just want to thank you guys for making a FREE site the best one covering the Sooners. Great job- because we all know it wouldn’t be that way without an awful lot of effort and time!

        • Jordan Esco says:

Don’t know if we’re the best, that’s up to you all, but we do try and work hard to get you all the (FREE) info you want/need.

  • Jared William Reininger says:

I am so ready to see some physical football. Even on offense we have some guys that are just insanely physical. DGB, B. Bell, anyone on the O Line. I love Mike Stoops and Jerry Montgomery because those guys are about getting physical. When I saw them almost fight on the sideline, everyone was like “Great our coaches can’t get along.” But you know how fired up you get as a player when you see your coach that revved up? Our defense has that “We are going to hurt you” mentality. Can’t wait to see QBs and RBs quiver every time they get the ball.

    • paganpink says:

And if what Schmitty says is correct, how dangerous would an in-shape DGB be? And add Perine to your list of people that no one is going to want to mess with even on Offense!

  • Will Narramore says:

Not related to anything from today but what OU players that are on the bubble of making the NFL roster will actually make it? Specifically Finch Clay Nelson Irwin Saunders Ikard Justin Brown and Damien Williams?

    • Krys Allen says:

Just my personal opinion: I think Clay is the perfect running back fit for Denver and Manning, and I could see him making the team and seeing the field. Especially since Monte Ball just had an appendectomy and will miss the entire preseason.

    • DCinAZ says:

Finch, Clay, Saunders and Brown I think will make their rosters. Saunders is already listed as the #1 PR for the Jets so I’d say he’s already in.

  • j l says:

Not sure if any of the editors watch wrestling or not, but someone should put up a clip from monday night raw last night. Damien sandow came out in a sooner uniform, talking trash to the texas crowd(think it was in austin). Then mark henry came out in a UT shirt, and I think most of you can guess what happened after that.

    Pretty funny stuff.

Heres the match, but it dosent include any of damiens pre match trash talk of the horns:
