It’s game week, baby!!!

FOOTBALL

It seems as though it became really popular over the weekend (and probably even before that to some degree) to jump on the ‘OU is overrated’ bandwagon by those in the media. So we have that to look forward to for the next week until an actual OU football game will be played. Huzzah.

That skyscaper video gives me the willies…cant sit still watchin it…Thanks again Jordan

  • Sooner Ray says:

Well crap, I was hoping for Clay to make it at Denver.

    • leatherneck1061 says:

Ditto. Being a Broncos fan myself I’d love to see more Sooners on the roster. Really hope Corey Nelson does well there.

  • hOUligan says:

Good piece on Striker and his mom. Hope he has a huge season and is set to be picked in the 1st couple of rounds. Game week!!! Boomer!!!

    • blaster1371 says:

Agree…… But hopefully after the 2015 season!

      • paganpink says:

Exactly. He could use another year to finish his degree and it looks like that’s what his mom would like. Most people benefit greatly by a senior year on the field.

        • blaster1371 says:

That was a good article on his mom and her influence on him. I would hope as he gets more national pub that the non-crimson world hears stories like that instead of the three that have dominated OU related media. This team has some outstanding young men on it, as do most others, but we Ll know those story lines don’t sell the ad space.

  • Sooner Ray says:

So Jordan, not sure what my plans are yet but was wandering if you’re planning a live game thread?

    • Jordan Esco says:

I see no reason why we wouldn’t. Seemed to be popular last year, I always had the intention of doing it again this season.

  • blaster1371 says:

Does Stoops give his usual game week Monday press conference and will you have notes on it on here the second he steps away from the podium?

  • leatherneck1061 says:

Yeah the “OU is overrated” bandwagon actually got rolling over the last couple weeks. I actually don’t resent it at all – I welcome it. I want our guys to hear nothing else from the media all season except how much they supposedly suck. If we can get that, #8 is virtually guaranteed 🙂

    • kt-raida says:

I was in the procees of typing the same thing. Thanks for saving me the time!

    • paganpink says:

Yes. I was at the Twin Peaks “brestaurant” last Friday at lunch, which has many big screens spread through there like a sports bar, talking with two old friends about OU and how exciting this season looks. Suddenly, one of my friends points at the screen behind me, I turn around and it’s the d-bags at ESPN who are running a list of “most overrated/ most underrated” teams in college football, and we aren’t just listed as overrated- we’re freakin’ number one! Are you kidding me? We need to lay waste to our opposition and show that ESPN is once again completely incompetent at doing their jobs as analysts. No one knows the future, but these guys are biased AND lazy in their evaluations! If they’re right I will be the first to praise them. They will not be right.

      • leatherneck1061 says:

“Lazy” is actually the perfect word to describe most of these guys. I don’t think most of them really research the teams they’re talking about. A lot of folks here may strongly disagree, but I actually think Herbstreit for the most part does his homework before he talks. He may be the only one….If there is anyone else at ESPiN who knows anything beyond a stat sheet, I can’t think of who that would be at the moment.

      • kt-raida says:

Pagan pink pink you obviously know nothing about football…..the Sooner went 11-2 last year beat ESPN and college football darling Alabama in the sugar bowl and brought back almost every starter of course they are overrated.

        • paganpink says:

F.W.I.W.- Pagan Pink Ripple is a type of super sweet wine we used to drink- back in the day. It has nothing to do with my religious beliefs, gender, etc. I might just as easily have called myself “Quaalude” I suppose, but that’s REALLY politically incorrect!!

    • lovethemsooners says:

…..and the “OU is overrated” talk won’t go away for a few weeks either. The critics are scoffing at our schedule as well. We just need to run roughshod through it to get everyone to shut up…….except for Hoover(he’ll still find a way to criticize OU/Stoops).

    • Mike Reed says:

That sounds like to me that there’s no other choice but to make Baker Mayfield immediately eligible!!!

      • roygbell says:

That is the way it looks to me as well, but we are talking about the NCAA where they haven’t been all that consistent in the enforcement of their rules over the years.

There is just something blatantly wrong about treating a non-scholarship the same as a scholarship player. And, in this case [unless I am missing something] it would be treating the non-scholarship player much worse than the scholarship player.

  • Chris White says:

Did Corey Nelson get cut? That sucks about Clay but he should be an assistant with Gundy while he waits for someone to pick him up. He’s a good player for our backs to look up too

  • BigJoeBrown says:

Don’t know if everyone saw this, but I couldn’t help but laugh and I am usually not the most jovial person. Epic…….Charles Tapper mistaking Samaje Perine for someone’s dad

  • Cory Reedy says:

Just watching that video of the Hong Kong skyscraper selfie took my breath away and almost made me soil my pants.

  • KsSooner says:

I will be bringing my wife to her first major CFB game this weekend to see the Sooners. I am also bringing my cousin and his wife to their first game in Norman. I have been to a couple OU games in recent years, but this is my first time back to GFS/OF since I was a kid (my dad took me to OU games in Norman starting when I was 11 years old). We are excited! We are traveling from Kansas and plan to arrive sometime after lunch. Does anyone have any suggestions for us regarding parking and/or places to go pregame? I don’t normally invite myself to other people’s events but if anyone has room for 4 Kansans to join them before the game, we’d certainly be thankful! BOOMER!

  • soonermusic says:

Great piece on Striker, thanks for the link. I saw a show/movie somewhere about the whole selfie on skyscraper craze, can’t remember where. Sorry to hear about Clay, I’m a big fan. I can’t help but wonder if those reports I read about apparently several ‘incidents’ during practice had something to do with it. They were weird. And the “overrated” tag is for sure one of the better things that could happen in the media at this point.

  • Won says:

    BOOM!

  • SoonerinLondon says:

Hong Kong is the best place on earth. I loved living there more than anywhere. I miss it so much…will be back for a visit in November. I know exactly where that guy is…scary, but what a great city to live in…beaches, hiking trails, restaurants, clubs, city, open spaces…all on a small island. You are never more than 30 minutes from anyplace on the island.

    • paganpink says:

And I thought London was cool! Didn’t realize circus was old english for circle till I went to Piccadilly Circus. I mean it’s not like I was expecting a circus or anything LOL I just didn’t know why there were so many circuses on the map! Don’t know what a Piccadilly is though! I would love to go to Honk Kong! Crowded place?

      • SoonerinLondon says:

Lived in London for 5 years, HK for 2. (Flying home to 3-4 OU games every year.) Would spend the rest of my life in HK, if I could.
Central is crowded like NY, but the island is only 15% developed. It’s 85% mountains and nature preserves, so all the people are the 15%. I lived on the South side of the island, with a view of the South China sea and a few islands out the front window, a mountain nature preserve out the back. I was 20 minutes from Central.

        • paganpink says:

Sounds idyllic! You know, I live in Yukon which is 20 minutes from downtown but it’s just not the same, LOL. I think you have just given me my next vacation destination. Incredibly blessed by nature and capitalism. British and Asian influences. Very intriguing. Are you in Finance?

          • SoonerinLondon says:

Idyllic might be a little strong, but I love it. Not a better party town either. It has great nightlife and is also very family friendly. Our daughter was 2-4 years old, when we lived there, and it was great for her.
Contact me before you go to HK and I’ll give you a few pointers.

          • paganpink says:

I’ll do it. Thank you. They are both international finance centers is why I asked about Finance.

          • SoonerinLondon says:

            Yes. Financial industry.

anyone see that gibson has us in his top 3? thought that was a little odd, considering how high he was on tenn and auburn.

Of couse he will end up at ohio state, but still, interesting to note how high we jumped.

  • DCinAZ says:

All the “OU is overrated” prattle going on in the media while they salivate over UCLA, who didn’t beat anybody of note last season, and predicting them to be in the playoffs has been hilarious! Have any of these clowns in the media looked at UCLA’s schedule? There’s absolutely no way UCLA will win the PAC 12 much less make it to the playoffs. SO OU is overrated but a UCLA team that hasn’t done anything in 20+ years isn’t? Mkay…
