Is OU Running Back U? I’d have to think they have a pretty strong argument under the leadership of one Cale Gundy. (ESPN$)

Watching Striker’s film, I noticed a couple things:
1. He’s such a tweener that I’m not sure where this 1st round grade is coming from. He’s too small to play LB and too slow to play DB. His niche is a pass rushing LB in the right situation. He’s fantastic at the college level, but I’m not sure where he would fit in the pros.
2. I’m not going to miss Gabe Lynn one bit. The last DB that infuriated me that much with his play was Eric Bassey (a.k.a. Can’t Defend The Play-Action Pass)
I agree on the striker deal but if he does get his weight up to 240-ish then he could be special he could possibly learn to play mlb as well as olb. Not all mlb are that tall lofton is around 6’0 and there’s plenty of others striker just needs to gain weight.
I can’t go there on Lynn he wasn’t as bad as a few of the others we’ve had back there but what I liked about him is he was a leader and that’s what you want from a safety.
It’s borderline insane how easily Tapper runs past him to catch Cooper from behind.
“bordeline insaneā¦” yeah, no kidding…
Gabe Lynn had a lot of key INTs this past season, though, FWIW.
Agree on Striker so think he will stay through Sr year. Anyone think his move to playing some NB might help get him to safety at the next level? Tapper might stay too as he had little experience coming out of hs.
Striker is a serious liability in rush defense. In a majority of the run plays he was driven ten yards down field or that far away from the ball. If he was rushing and it turned out to be a run play he just opened a serious running lane for the enemy. Calling him a tweener is very accurate.
ESPN article is paywalled, FYI
Even w/o reading the article. I say Yes, we are RB U. I don’t know of any position coach at OU that actually gets to select blue chips. Not just that, he can coach them up and his chem with his guys has been repeatedly brought up. However, at the end of the day, you cannot deny what Murray and AD are doing NOW in the league
Yeah, that’s my bad. Was in a hurry this morning. Normally try to avoid linking to stuff like that b/c I know how much it annoyed me when I couldn’t get to links like that. I’ll add a ($) just so everyone knows.
Just start by looking at the 2008 roster – DeMarco Murray, Chris Brown, Jermie Calhoun, Justin Johnson…incredibly loaded
By 2010 we added Brennan Clay, Roy Finch, and Tre Millard
2011 – added Brandon Williams and Danzel Williams, and Whaley came from nowhere
2012 – Ross
2013 – Ford
2014 – Mixon and Perine
2015 – Anderson
I’m mean…it’s ridiculous. It’s like USC’s recruiting dominance during the 2000’s
I really hope Striker AND Tapper stay to complete their Sr. year, it would be good for everyone involved.
How ’bout we keep this stable full and run some smash mouth in your face football!
I think Stoops is gradually building a culture that includes kids understanding why it may be better for them to stick around, graduate, mature, get more experience–in spite of what the media may think. The message doesn’t get through to everyone, but, somewhat surprisingly, it seems to be getting through quite a bit more than in the past.
Yeah, they seem to be getting better. Some leave because they just can’t handle school anymore and some think they are just that good. If they look at those who went before them they would see that only a hand full of the very elite can make it work leaving early. Hopefully the coaches can convince them that education and maturity is going to benefit them in the long run.
for sure. And, as will be a topic for another day I’m sure, it’s not just about having the mad skills and talent to be successful in the nfl. It’s about having the tools to handle that success, or adversity, when it arises–learning how to deal with different people and situations, figuring out what kind of folks you want to have around you and advising you, and on and on. That stuff is perhaps just as important in the long run.

All is good.
Ha.I feel the same way.
Talking about running backs, now we have Anderson does it make it more likely we push after Soso And Chris Warren and let Gray slide cause Gray and Anderson r alike? R we even in the running for Chris? What do u all think
Well and Anderson and mixon are a lot alike. I think they should go after another bruiser I don’t think that’s soso and with his injury concerns I don’t see him changing his style. But I don’t think gundy would turn away soso or gray.
Agree with Zack. Seems as though OU would take Soso if he wants to commit, but I wouldn’t be surprised if OU didn’t take any more RBs this class. I haven’t read much regarding OU and Gray lately, so I don’t know what is up there.
OU is likely done at RB.
I think there is still a chance they take two RBs in this class. Now the decision may be made for them if the Soso kid moves on now that Anderson has committed. But I don’t think it’s a foregone conclusion they’re now done at RB. Could be wrong, but I think they’re still open to the possibility of two RBs in this class.
So I’m guessing we haven’t been recruiting Warren
I haven’t seen much as far as his name is concerned I haven’t even heard of our coaches visiting his school or anything. Maybe that’s still to come but I think it’s possible he knows where he wants to go.
I think they have maintained the relationship and kept in contact, but have not been putting on the full-court press, if that makes sense.
I will say no, only based on possible attrition. If things do not play out well for Ross this year, he will leave. I know he’s grown up a lot since he arrived on campus; however, he still possesses that competitive attitude that will not allow him to remain buried in the depth chart. If he does not become a solid #2 with Ford (presumably), he’ll bolt.
With that said, Gundy will continue recruiting throughout the season just in case.
Gray similar but 15# lighter and not quite as fast but maybe quicker. Doubt Soso comes in now but pretty sure he’d still be welcome. Also agree with Jim below on Ross. Wonder about David ‘Sooner’ Smith being content to just be a Sooner as PT not looking good for him, either.
The list of RBs that have some thru OU is incredible.
Also Trevor Knight highlights in-case you haven’t seen it yet for a good way to start a Monday. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMVpyf70aos&feature=youtu.be
Not a good look at all for the NFL, those demands/request are ridiculous. They make Mariah Carrey or the Kardashians look humble.
The Striker video for me was tough to watch, he got manhandled a number of times at the line of scrimmage but at time when on he just wore down his opponent. On the other hand Tapper is a beast, appreciate him even more.
That was one sick dunk, wow! The best part about the video was the guy in the white shirt under the score board who just bails with his elbows flying out the door.
For all the hype our defense has gotten, it’s a humble reminder of how much further we have to go to become a truly great defense.
A little off topic, but did any of the you season ticket holders get an email from OU late last week about the Red River Showdown Package? It says I can sign up for a package that will include a ticket to the Texas game, and I can choose two additional games from the list of LA Tech, KSU, Baylor, and Kansas.
I’ve been a season ticket holder since Bob’s first year, and I’ve never seen any package that includes an OU/UT ticket. I’ve never donated enough to sniff being able to get OU/UT tickets thru OU, and that hasn’t changed this year. Just wondering what this is all about?
Yeah, I got that email too. I was shocked, because I haven’t donated big$$$ either. I started to get exited, but then I thought, ” That’s about right. I probably can’t go this year due to Softball, so of coarse now they offer!”
Oui is reporting that it’s just brown and Curtis who are not qualified yet. And that both are expected to be qualified after summer courses
Very good news hope it comes true.
It depends if you trust the source or not. I know the all knowing on their site though proche was a corner…so who knows if the ducks are in a row here.
Amen, sounds like Mr. Hale woke up after the week-end!
Here’s something to discuss on a rainy Monday morning in Skiatook. From 2015 offers to date.
qb: set or(Gibson or none)
rb: set or (Jamabo or Gray)
wr: help (Ofodile,Newsome,Kirk )
te: help (Josh Moore)
og: help (Barnett, Hearne)
ot: help (Allen,Akamnounu,James,Dyer, Danley-jun.coll.)
dt:help (Gallimore, Reynolds-jun. coll.)
de: help (Campbell)
cb: set or (Ross, Boyd)
Safety: help (Sunderland, Haughton)
lb’s: help (Wheeler, Wallace, DeBerry, Louis Brown)
Kicker: done
Some of these positions are grouped together and I tried to list the athlete’s that might be interested in OU.
Also Wariboko and Lampkin were omitted on purpose, although they are good players.
I know we can’t take them all- but Tennessee would!!!
TE – may have another addition with the young man from Kingfisher, Jace Sternberger. I’m pulling for Jace to continue to improve his game as I would like to see him at OU.
OT – don’t forget about some Okie (Kaden C) & E Tx linemen who continue to impress.
LB – Hope Whitfield thinks about the LB move. Stoops has a great track record for position changes. Also, I would love to see another Spiro player have success on the next level. Don’t forget about Griffin in FL. His skills would really fit in at OU & Big 12. Then again, you have Peat & Bo Wallace who would be great pick ups too.
Of your ‘wish list’, most likely to eventually commit to OU: TE Moore, OG Barnett, LB Wheeler, S Sunderland and MAYBE Haughton, too. Was hoping Wheeler would commit after camp. Saw a tweet from Sunderland just riding around with Bob Stoops in his golf cart. Would love to see offers to Whitfield, Kaden, Daniel and Patterson and maybe Sternberger. Think all would commit and be solid players.
That dunk is sick!
Not saying it was deliberate, but the omission of Tapper’s involvement in the Yeldon fumble that led to the TD pass to Saunders in the 2nd quarter is glaring.
