(Just wanted to give everyone a heads up. I’ll be traveling next week, so there will be no daily links. But I’ll pick things back up on Monday, 6/30. Carry on about your day.)
FOOTBALL
OU is ‘QBU’ according to this point system ESPN devised. (ESPN)
Always appreciative of the work Jay Norvell (and really the OU staff as a whole) does with youth football. (NewsOK)
I’m not going to waste the effort putting together the timeline so I could be wrong, but I suspect this explains why things between OU & Devon Thomas went south so quickly. (TW)
On that same topic, what the heck is going on lately in Stillwater? (Twitter)
BASKETBALL
Good to hear Isaiah Cousins is already back at practice. (Twitter)
Lon Kruger and staff continuing to hit the recruiting trail hard. (Twitter)
OTHER
This smells very fake to me, but judge for yourself.
Pretty clever.

Love that pool video.
Esco, if you’re headed South, bring 6 pt beers.
Unfortunately, no. Or I’d be happy to accommodate. Pacific Northwest actually.
Safe trip. You can tell Jay Norvell loves working with the young kids.
FYI after browsing a little this A.M.
Per ESPN-since 2000:
OU #2 as def. back U
OU # 2(tied) as linebacker U
OU # 4(tied) as def. line U
The offensive side was even better as others already posted.
Du’Vonta Lampkin (former OU commit) listed his top 5 in order.
Texas, OU, LSU, Ariz. State, Missouri. I also think it said he would take official visits to those 5 teams-time will tell.
Let me know next time. Lol
Why go to all that trouble for 0.1%-0.2% more alcohol in your beer?
god I hate the TW website. Total p.o.s.. Nearly everytime I check an article there, the page becomes non-responsive; forcing me to restart the program. It took 3 tries to read that single article on Thomas. SMH…
Can you guys offer any updates on Mixon and the other freshmen that are going through summer workouts? Any impressions?
I read an SI article on crime rates in college athletics, particularly football and basketball. In that article it said only 2 Big 12 schools do background checks on the players they offer, TCU and OU. I would bet this issue among others with Devon Thomas had something to do with OU’s lack of interest.
He tweeted that he was committed to OU right after the ND game, if memory serves. I remember listening to Toby Rowland’s radio show the next week where he said that was awkward, since Thomas didn’t have an OU offer.
This is like Prentiss Elliott all over again–probably even worse. He starts a brawl, OU rescinds the offer, within a few days oSu lays out the welcome mat. Then they act surprised when this happens? If you sacrifice character and integrity to win, is the win worth having? It’ll come back to bite you in the end. Just ask Switzer about Bernard Hall & Jerry Parks & Charles Thompson. Was it worth it to sign guys like this? It cost Barry his job.
As an alum, I am grateful we have people of high character running our athletic dept…Joe C, Stoops, Kruger, Gasso, Mark Williams, etc. These people prove you can win without cheating or taking just anyone as long as they can produce on the field/court/diamond/gym. That’s also why SI is writing exposés on oSu now instead of us.
I can believe it about background checks…
Did they ever say who the osu player was that was abducted etc?
I know, right? Only 2? I would’ve expected a few more…Texas and maybe Baylor anyway. And that article was written before the defections of NU et al.
It was a walk-on WR from Denton. Heard the name but forgot it already. Former HS teammate of qb Walsh.
Baylor ain’t investigating anybody…
Texas is marginally surprising, except Mack & co leaned heavily in high school coaching ties…
I hate Texas as much as any Sooner fan should but I respect the fact they do have certain standards, they don’t oversign by 15-20 every class then refuse to honor scholarships if they evaluated wrongly & the player didn’t pan out (insert SEC school name here), etc. Even under mack they maintained a degree of integrity. Yeah…they had players who kept getting arrested for weed, but I don’t remember any armed robbery/attempted murder/rape charges in the news. If so it wasn’t commonplace.
Not disagreeing. Just saying it’s only marginally surprising because of how tight they are with HS coaches here, if a coach was less the candid about a player off the field, he would be ostracized…
I mean cause the middle if the pack schools can’t afford it, neither can ISU.. Tech just doesn’t care
They ought to be able to afford it now with the money the Big 12 is making.
Amen, and awesome post!
