FOOTBALL

‘How Oklahoma star Eric Striker came into his own’ (SI)

Good stuff here from Jordan Phillips and his mentality after almost having football taken away from him. (SSTV)

‘Oklahoma has the blueprint to beating Baylor’ (SB Nation)

I’m guessing this is a clue for Saturday.

twitter

Puts a little different context on it (or at least it did for me) when you can see the s#$% eating grin on his face. (Maybe you’d seen it before, but this is the first I’ve seen of actual video from the “incident.”)

I hope Striker slaps the stupid grin off Petty’s face early and often.

    • blaster1371 says:

OU needs to absolutely pound these guys. Beating Iowa StTe was good and all but an ass kicking of the highest order would salve many wounds.

      • John Garner says:

Agree. Beating Baylor in the fashion that we ran roughshod over ISU would not only be sweet, but like a resurrection.

      • hOUligan says:

Would love it but at this point will settle for a win by any means but convincing would be much better.

    • hOUligan says:

…and Gris and Tapper and Phillips and maybe a blitzing safety or 3.

  • Payton Glen Guthrie says:

Glad to see my SE can offer a warm up game.

  • SoonerfanTU says:

Been a lot of talk in recent days about Joe C. to Michigan if they offer. Sources seemed at least mildly credible. Thoughts? Where is Joe C. from? Not sure why he would want to make a move at this point.

    • lovethemsooners says:

James Hale says there’s no chance of it happening. So I’m putting the odds at 50/50.

    • blaster1371 says:

There is also talk of Harbaugh being canned in San Fran and going to Michigan. He seems to rub people the wrong way and that could be something Joe C just doesn’t want to deal with. His gig at OU seems pretty dang sweet.

      • SoonerfanTU says:

I don’t see any reason Joe C. would want to leave either. He’d be a pretty big loss to OU, IMO.

  • ellisbr says:

I hope Stoops shows this video to OUr defense. I don’t think we need extra motivation after last years embarrassing loss but if we did, this should do it. I’d like to see Striker and Co. ATTACK all game long. He’s called us out, now it’s time to show baylor and the college football world what we can do. BOOMER SOONER!

  • boomersooner says:

Really funny article i found in the comments of jordans sec article yesterday. Enjoy! http://www.elevenwarriors.com/college-football/2014/10/42559/first-look-espn-college-gameday-in-east-lansing-ohio-state-michigan-state

  • CS says:

To be honest with you guys, I like Petty 298 days of the year, just not the Baylor week. Undervalued, not recruited but proving all these recruiting garbage sites wrong with his play on the field, which is what I appreciate. Gotta laud Art Briles for giving him a shot.

Now, lets hope Striker takes care of Petty this week though. #beatBU

  • EasTex says:

What Petty did is just silly, defenses are going after him regardless of what he says or does.
I would rather use Oakman’s ridiculous comments at the Big 12 media days as motivation. I hope Thompson whips his rear end with a knotted plow line.

But doesn’t playing in Norman count for something?

The fans are not really a factor,” he said. “It’s what you put on
the field. It’s the product you put on the field.
“That game from OU last year, that should have showed you
that that product was nowhere near as good as the product
that Baylor was putting on the field. The execution, the players
from each and every position… You
could tell we were on a different level from OU. Just straight out.”

Might this be a different season?

“It is. But they’ve still got the same people. And we’ve still got the same
cats,” Oakman said. “It’s the product. Some things don’t change. We’ve
got Kaz Kazadi. We’ve got Art Briles. And we’ve got Phil Bennett. And
we’re gonna do the same thing. And we’re gonna be great.”

    • boomersooner says:

      Central Florida says hi

      • EasTex says:

        O000h, that left a mark.
/the product was nowhere to be found

        • Jed says:

But, but, but, they were disappointed to be playing so lowly a foe, so, like, it didn’t count.
          -‘Bama

          • EasTex says:

Baylor playing in a consolation game for the first time in forever should have been motivation enough.
BU hasn’t beat a team ranked in the top 25 on the road since 1991.

          • Jed says:

Don’t confuse the issue with fact-based rationality. Join me instead in capering jests that intentionally fail to mask the blatant contempt lying just beneath the surface.

          • EasTex says:

Sorry, just the way I roll.

          • EasTex says:

There is additional irony in this, Oakman (he of the great product) didn’t mention their bowl game, but did impugn the OU Sugar Bowl victory saying Bama wasn’t motivated.
            That’s some finger-lickin’ good irony.

    • Jared William Reininger says:

This is a joke. Had our offense been able to move the ball, which I personally blame on playcalling, Baylor would have been on the short end of things. Our defense DOMINATED them for most of the first half. Only so much you can do when your offense has nothing but three and outs. I hope we don’t just beat them but remind them they still belong in the basement of the Big 12.

  • Dennis Hackney Jr says:

FWIW…i REALLY like the possibility of this scenario (question two after the link) http://www.foxsports.com/college-football/story/college-football-playoff-rankings-sec-nightmare-scenario-mississippi-state-mailbag-110514

but somehow, the ESPiN machine prolly wont let it happen…

  • soonermusic says:

Saw part of Stoops chat show from tues, and if it wasn’t clear before from what he said in both pressers, it was obvious that he was not at all happy with the performance of his receivers in the I-state game. Too many drops. He actually got a little hot about the idea that that Shep’s injury was a “blessing in disguise.” Basically said that was a ridiculous media concept–not in any way, not now, never. The other receivers just need to be better. Bell would have made those catches with or without Shep in there. Those other guys need to step up and be accountable whether Shep is on the field or not, and they didn’t. He wasn’t quite that blunt in the way he said it, but close, and you could tell he was pretty fired up about it.

Always love catching up on things here. Went to Port Aransas for a week. Fishing, surf and adult beverages and perfect weather. Now back to the coal mine!

This site + great posters = God’s country blog:-)

  • ohiosoonerdevildog says:

Has anyone heard aboiut the linebacker who is a Michigan verbal, visiting this weekend? He is like 6″1 230?

    • hOUligan says:

Kirkland. See “Original Posters” blog on visitors. It’s always said, if you can get ’em on campus you got a shot. Need a great game atmosphere ala UTenn with the crowd “jumpin’ around” and a solid win. Stretch run for recruiting.

      • ohiosoonerdevildog says:

Good call. I always forget to look there. Yeah would be nice to grab a commitment from a lb, especially a bigger one.

    • Steve Cooke says:

      Decommitted today!

  • JJsooner1 says:

Soooooo who are the visiting recruits this weekend in God’s country?

  • Stephen Dale says:

How close Baylor gets to 300 yds rushing will speak volumes about OU’s defensive acumen. Being a team that sets up the passing game off its run game, stopping Baylor’s running game is an absolute if OU hopes to get its defense off the field and/or win the game. Stopping Shock Linwood ( who ripped OU last year) should be as much a priority for M Stoops troops as not going to sleep in the deep secondary. Stoops’ dilemna is stopping the ‘big play’ . The Sooner defense has been subject to ‘big plays’ all season. This game would be a fine time to play solid technique and shut down the bears. Because I don’t think this defense can play that well against a quality team, I suspect Baylor will win easily.

    • Boomer4life says:

You really hope OU wins though….right?

      • Stephen Dale says:

Boomer4life………………YES, I DO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What my heart wants ( an OU victory) is different from what my head tells me is going to happen ( Baylor winning easily). The doubt comes from the TCU/KST/TExas games problems and the inconsistencies shown in those games on both sides of the LOS.

  • j l says:

Petty is dead last in completion % in the big 12, behind montell cozart, and richardson, the guy we held to 15/40 passing last week.

Petty is big, strong, and athletic, but hes simply not that accurate. he missed the 60% mark in 6 of his final 7 games last year, and is having the same issue this year. Sorry to those that think hes a 1st rounder, but just no, hes not.

Just as an FYI, knight is #1 in the big 12 in QBR, and 6th in the nation. Not too shabby with as inconsistent of a season as he has had.

    • Krys Allen says:

Wow, I didnt believe your statments about QBR… looked it up and sure enough Knight is #1 in B12 and 6th in all of FBS.

      • j l says:

since QBR is adjusted for opponent strength, and with OU having the 10th ranked schedule even before playing baylor, thats where he gets the huge boost.

trust me, I was shocked when i saw him that high too.

  • Guest says:

You are the MVP (Most Valuable Poster) for bringing this to us!

  • rphokc says:

getting really tired of the obligatory pink/pink accents on unis for one form of ca……..if people feel so compelled then, by all means, wear a personal pink wardrobe in daily life and leave unis alone

    • Stephen Dale says:

rphokc………….couldn’t agree more. appreciate you saying what i’ve been thinking for a couple of years. PINK is being run into the ground and forcefed to us fans. We do understand women suffer more than men from this type of Cancer. This is just one form of it. What colour of uniform are our athletic teams going to wear to recognize PROSTATE cancer awareness ? BRAIN cancer,? Melanoma ? It is bordering on the absurd . Awareness is always about self examination on a regular basis and getting medical attention as the need arises whether it is on a man or woman. Women can’t expect the men in their lives to conduct the exams for them. And vice versa.

      • rphokc says:

        1) just smacks to me of group think and pc…….if anything, just have ca month and wear black, IF you want to……….2) the most egregious example I’ve seen was an nfl game last yr where some players had pink soles on shoes, pink gloves, pink towels and not to be outdone, the refs were throwing pink penalty flags! …….3) if it invades my beloved nhl with a pink puck then I will know that the sports world is doomed

  • Wilson says:

Nah…I think the s&%$ eating grin from Bryce was for the media. I can say this…he may be one helluva coach one day based on those responses…lol

  • Sooner Ray says:

I swear if M. Stoops keeps Striker back in coverage Saturday, I may own one less TV.

    • EasTex says:

Doesn’t how the offense lines up determine that?
I would love to see them blitz up the middle like the couch burners did, Petty wasn’t smiling that night atall.

      • Sooner Ray says:

Just don’t want to see one of those games where we guard the LOS because we’re scared of getting beat. I want to see pressure whether from the edge or up the middle or both. I don’t want Petty to even have time to look at his second receiver.

      • boomersooner says:

did you notice striker coming up the middle against ISU? i remembered seeing a blitz and one or two guys came up the gut and one of em turned out to be striker. i swear i’m not on anything, that it actually happened. but i thought that it was a good idea although late like everything else. didn’t know if you noticed in your film study

        • EasTex says:

I have looked at so many specific things already, I will add that one for tonight. I think I know when what you are saying happened, the D lined up with a 3 man line look with both Striker and Grissom backed off from the line…right?

          • boomersooner says:

i think so but i can’t remember the exact moment. i just remember it happening and thought hey that’s a great idea, wished we’d thought of it earlier and was hoping i’d seen it right

    • Mysterio1 says:

This is my biggest fear…….Mike Stoops playing scared.

  • EasTex says:

Before you watch the following video of the Ole Miss AD a couple of things to bear in mind.
First of all, not only is there abusive language and intoxication at Ole Miss home games, their chant starts off celebrating it…”Hell yeah, damn right. Hotty Toddy.”
Secondly, coming off of a tough loss and the need to bounce back, asking their fans to make this game “the toughest place Presbyterian has ever played” is not only mock worthy, but requires I warn you to remove all beverages from your presence and mouth before viewing this video.
Lastly, Ole Miss is not a “Flagship” university and this video is unlisted so watch fast before it gets pulled.
    Have fun!

    • boomersooner says:

this is what happens when you’ve never been there. you’re playing “the best team from a sturdy church league”

    • Thomas Lenard says:

at 2:11 : “In the life of Ole Miss football, and in the state of Mississippi, there has never been a season where a collegiate program has had more than 60,000 people at each home game, we can become the first to do it”
Flagship you say?? more like the dingy.

  • boomersooner says:

tell you what. i’m falling in love with this leah still. she is so beautiful and that smile can melt anything. such an awesome story with hopefully a storybook ending
