FOOTBALL

Is it just me or is no one talking about this OU/TCU game? Looking at NewsOK this a.m. and you have to scroll down past 10 other stories/posts before you get to anything specific to TCU related coverage. Not a criticism of them or anyone in particular so much as an observation. Just struck me as strange how little talk there is out there.

You can’t make this stuff up. โ€œWhen everybody else kind of steals from other schools and copies, we have our own thing.โ€ – OSU fan lecturing others for copying other schools is truly priceless. (NewsOK)

No bueno.

I could do this. I mean I’d probably break most of the bones in my body, but I could do it.

Ol’ Frank is gonna find out dope is a lot more expensive if you’re unemployed.

I never have understood the allure of drugs. I know that for many getting high “feels good” but the risk, IMO, goes so beyond the “reward. Then, to make that risk being a job that pays NFL scale wages……. Just absolutely unbelievable. For a vast majority of those players, I’d think it safe to say 99.5%, won’t earn in their rest of their post NFL contracts what they earn playing four years in the league. Plain and simple Frank Alexander is a freaking idiot of aggie proportions.

  • CS says:

Good news is NYJ have let go of so many successful players before, Welker, Woodhead etc… hopeful he can make a diff in AZ! #boomersooner

  • Tony B says:

Thanks for the shout out man. I couldn’t believe what I read about Sumlin partying with Johnny Football while he was still a student. Furthermore for a rapper to say the Sumlin was the life of the party (the party being a 15 on a scale of 1 to 10) was umm shocking. Evidently there is a reason he gets recruits!

Is anyone using iPads having trouble opening the videos on here from you tube? I can’t open them at all, same happened yesterday.

    • Sooner Ray says:

Seems like the link to the video’s weren’t showing on the iPad yesterday, didn’t check today.

  • SoonerfanTU says:

Thanks for the Taken 3 trailer, Jordan!

    Is Sumlin married?

I don’t have a huge problem with stealing signs, as long as they aren’t breaking the rules in doing so (ie, recording). Part of the game, IMO. What is stupid from the story listed above, is FSU not changing up their calls enough knowing that a past offensive coach was on the staff at Auburn. That is just dumb.

  • Cory Reedy says:

Seriously, it’s almost like we have another BYE week. Zero chatter about TCU. We can’t let them sneak up on us.

    • blaster1371 says:

Given the brevity of Stoops press conference I think the team is zeroed in on TCU. I imagine they have talked about not listening to the hype their team is getting.

      • Daddy R says:

“brevity” GREAT use of vocabulary, smarty pants. lol Been a while since I’ve seen that word!

        • blaster1371 says:

Lol!!! Thanks! I rarely get the word smart thrown my way…. Smarty pants is close enough!

  • blaster1371 says:

Concerning the lack of chatter about the OU-TCU game: I think there is a lack of chatter about college football in general. Seems like a huge proportion of CFB related discussion in the media is about stuff happening outside the lines and the selection committee. I blame ESPN to a huge degree. Every fan of a non-sec team is so out off by these jacktards that just blubber on and on about the greatness that is the sec… Seriously it’s like they serve sec Kool-aid at the entrance and everyone of them must drink a gallon before they get their microphone. I cannot stand the Thursday night ESPN crew; the only exception being that dark haired commentator that calls out a player for the stupid and over the top comments Palmer makes. The best commentator, IMO is Rutledge; he must get anti-sec vaccinations.

  • Eric Hoffpauir says:

That Interstellar trailer looks incredible. I was on the fence about going to see it in the movie theater, but that tipped me over the edge.

    • blaster1371 says:

Did I just hear Esco say “cha-ching” ….. He gets a commission you know.

      Just kidding!

  • Swanny says:

The Tech fans crack me up. I live close to LBK, and always go to Tech when OU plays there. Trying to figure out a way to sneak a Anna Kournikova=Kliff Kingsbury sign into the game. Any suggestions?

    • thebigdroot says:

Put it between a couple of tortilla’s.

    • Stats says:

      1) Who needs a sign? Bring AK herself, I’m sure they’d let her in. Okay, while that would be awesome, it would also be difficult to pull off, so…
      2) Any AK look-a-likes in the LBK area that could pull it off?
      3) Just bring an AK poster and see if people can figure it out. Bring a marker with you in case they can’t. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • thebigdroot says:

Ok the kid fainting 3 times video was hillarious!! It’s also one of the reasons you’ll never see my a** on one of those things.

  • HoustonChiver says:

OU basketball is really coming on strong in the marketing/advertising department this year. Is it just me or are they really promoting the team more than they have in the past?

    • thebigdroot says:

I couldn’t watch the video, it said it was removed.

    • Daddy R says:

I think they probably promote the “high potential” teams, and dont promote the “down” years as much. I remember a ton of promotion during the Taylor/Blake Griffin days..

This team appears to be Krugers best thus far (such a great hire), and they are getting everyone excited to see them SOONERS!

  • Bill Duncan says:

It’s only a matter of time before someone gets into a fight with those paddles and they ban them from the game.

I love how Devonte Fields claims Ray Rice hurt his draft stock…. Just shows you he has no accountability for his own actions. Did Ray make him beat his gf? Ray just put the issue in the spotlight.

    • Zack says:

The ray rice deal is kinda shady if you ask me. And not because I’m bitter that I drafted him late thinking it was a steal. But because the person at fault for not punishing him correctly the first time was roger goodell. And it baffles me that the nfl did not already have a specific punishment for those kind of acts because ray rice and hardy were not the first athletes accused of beating up their wives/girlfriends and once again the nfl was not proactive.

One thing that I believe needs to be brought up and there’s no real way to address the issue, is that these women have to be held responsible. Sometimes they get more out of control than the men do and the men simply have to just take it and walk away. But does anyone remember what happened to Chris Henry of the bengals? Has a domestic dispute and was in the back of a truck when he fell out. http://www.foxnews.com/story/2009/12/17/bengals-chris-henry-dies-after-falling-off-truck-in-domestic-dispute/

My point is these women do just as much damage as these “gladiator” athletes.

Regarding the lack of OU/TCU coverage, it is not just you. We talked about this yesterday actually. The ESPiN afternoon shows were once again a wall-to-wall SEC orgy with some Big 10 and Pac 12 talk added at the end. And once again, absolutely zero mention of OU or the Big 12. One source I read even said OU doesn’t play a ranked opponent until KSU – totally overlooked the fact that TCU is ranked by both AP and USA Today. The ESPiN crowd doesn’t even try to put up a front anymore. I’m ready for them to just rename their network. If they can’t do that, they can at least change the name of their show from “College Football Live” to “The SEC Hour” or the “Anything but the Big 12” show or something equivalent. Would be so much more honest to their viewers.

    • Stats says:

I’ve come to believe that most of these analysts & commentators are just “promoters” for the games being shown on their networks, which I assume bring in a lot more ad money that the “analysis” shows.
The amount of ESPN discussion (promotion) of each conference (or team) is directly related to the percentage of games being shown on ESPN (and their family of networks). Notice how it corresponds with the fact that ESPN has sole/primary SEC game coverage, partial PAC12 & Big10 coverage, and virtually no BigXII coverage.
Think about this, the analysis isn’t that deep, and when it is, most of it is taken from local analysis (like here). It’s just promo time, like when a TV/movie star appears on late night talk shows; they wouldn’t be there if they weren’t promoting their latest project.
I’ll bet they talk about OU/Texas next week since it’s being televised by ABC which is in the ESPN family…
Anybody in marketing that could back me up in this theory?

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

ESPN isnt going to hype a game on FOX. It’s just business

      • leatherneck1061 says:

There’s certainly a business component, but IMO there is more to it than just that. Some of these people are just sycophantic worshipers of Nick Saban and all things SEC. I’ve seen it for too long now. No other way their fawning adoration makes any sense.

      • paganpink says:

Dave, they discuss lots of games everyday that aren’t on their network. We didn’t mean “hype” it in the sense of promoting it over others but they almost act like it’s not even being played- which is ridiculous. OU is one of the top four teams in the country and their games are followed by people all over the country with a lot of interest. One of the top 3 most followed and largest fan bases in the nation. They need to try harder as a sports channel to not be so biased.

        • Soonerfandave84 says:

Oh I agree with you guys, ESPN needs to talk less SEC for sure. But most of their analysts when asked say OU is #1 or #2. The network itself is the problem and have their own agenda which typically isnt to talk about the best teams, its more the ones they have more invested in.

  • Zack says:

I think it’s just the calm before the storm. Everyone’s been kinda anxious about this team but following a win in Morgantown with a win at tcu, then I expect fans to turn it up with texas coming up. A win this Saturday will lead to a week of fans ready to grill some bevo burgers.

  • Malicong says:

Something bothers me about the Sumlin/Manziel story. Manziel didn’t turn 21 until December of last year, meaning that would have only allowed them time to go to said party during bowl prep (which would be just stupid) as it was stated this occured while he was still playing. Being that he was most likely underaged, his history of drinking, and the near certainty that alcohol was available, didn’t Sumlin just knowing allow his underaged player to drink? Aisde from the NCAA or legal issues that presents, I would not want my son to be playing for a coach that, in essence, contributes to the delinqency of a minor and by associtation the consumption of alcohol by minor. Even if he was of age, why would any parent want to send their kids to play for a guy that encourages them to attend rap parties?

    • boomersooner says:

I would rather practice pulling my eyeballs out of their sockets, than listen to that crap. Its just noise. Johnny bag of donuts can play in traffic. The end

    • Tulsa Terry says:

Alcohol is the least of my worries here. Sunglass Sumlin and Johnny Football look like cocaine abusers to me.

  • Cush Creekmont says:

Coach Stoops was on Mike & Mike – very little about TCU. They were very positive about Bob and asked some general team questions. Then they launch into the concussion protocol quoting Mac Brown (yes the paragon of coaches) that “every coach and team is discussing this now.” To which BS replied, “we have the same doctors and trainers that we have had for years. We did not discuss this because we have always done it. We take away the players helmet and I stay away. The doctors tell me if the player can play and that’s it.”

It would be NICE to talk of games and not the PC issue of the week.

    • Jordan Esco says:

Couldn’t believe they didn’t ask him about the SEC so they’d have something all their programs could talk about the rest of the day.

      • paganpink says:

And what about “Wimmin?” I know the pro’s have a frequency of domestic abuse that is less then half that of the general population. The number of domestic abuse claims has steadily fallen in the last twenty years to a point that is a little more then a third of what it was! Astounding progress. But there seems to be an effort to portray it as worse- not better- and to label football players as some of the worst offenders, which they most certainly are not. Simply a meme with elections coming up, and those that think football is too violent and are opposed to it being played at all are also many of those behind the manufactured outrage.

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

Everyone is making a big deal about the lack of TCU talk…I am taking it as a sign this team is just going to keep their heads down and keep working. And if they do that, Bob & Co have a good chance to be lifting the first Playoff NC Trophy in January.

  • Shelby is a Patriot says:

Too many OU players in the NFL either suspended, inactive, or injured. Too bad.

  • Daddy R says:

Good news about Jalen. I hadn’t heard Jets cut him..

  • Jason Scism says:

Well they talk about OU a lot here in Austin. Always fishing for an upset prediction by someone regarding OU. Chip Brown among others think TCU will beat us. I’m not worried “IF” they let Knight run some we will win by 3 scores. BOOK IT !

  • Caleb Miller says:

Hey guys! Great read today. Been asking for awhile but haven’t gotten an anwser yet! Do you know anything about 5* OLB Caleb Kelly? 24/7 has him as a 100% lock to OU and I was just wondering if there was a reason for that. Thanks again guys!
