Sooner Squad Update – Game 3

Sooner Squad 17 (SS17) was a very hyped class for the Sooners. It featured some good talent and a lot of promise. What will be exciting is to see the development of these players during their time at OU. SS17 started out with 27 players. Although one is no longer on the team, the late additions of Dillon Faamatu and, for the purposes of this post, Jeff Badet made it 28. (Yes, I know Badet is not technically in the recruiting class).

This is our weekly look into how that class is performing and what their contributions were in the most recent game.

ss17 – game 3 played

– Jeff Badet

– Marquise Brown

– Tre Brown

– Grant Calcaterra

– Dillon Faamatau

– Addison Gumbs

– Creed Humphrey

– CeeDee Lamb

– Tyreece Lott

– Kenneth Murray

– Tre Norwood

– Trey Sermon

– Marcelias Sutton

13 players saw the field from SS17. That ties the season high.

SS17 – Game 3 Stats

– Jeff Badet: 1 carry, 2 yards, 1 reception, 13 yards, 20 all purpose yards

Marquise Brown (Big 12 Newcomer of the Week): 6 receptions, 155 yards, 1 touchdown (quietest 155 yard game I can remember)

– Tre Brown: 3 UA tackle, 1 A tackle, 0.5 TFL

– Dillon Faamatau: 2 A tackle

– Addison Gumbs: 2 UA tackle, 2 A tackle, 0.5 TFL

– CeeDee Lamb: 4 receptions, 131 yards, 2 touchdowns, 145 all purpose yards

– Tyreece Lott: 1 UA tackle, 3 TFL

– Kenneth Murray: 2 UA tackle, 6 A tackle, 3 TFL

– Trey Sermon: 7 carries, 22 yards, 2 touchdowns

– Marcelias Sutton: 6 carries, 63 yards, 1 touchdown, 81 APY

Those contributions accounted for:

– 37% of the carries

– 48% of the rushing yards

– 50% of the rushing touchdowns

– 34% of the receptions

– 60% of the receiving yards

– 75% of the receiving touchdowns

– 51% of the all purpose yards

– 22% of the total tackles

– 57% of the total TFL

That’s a very impressive showing. The offensive parts of SS17 are really becoming some of the primary playmakers. Marquise Brown had a huge showing. CeeDee Lamb was on track to break the freshmen single game receiving record at OU, currently held by Ryan Broyles (any time your name is mentioned with Broyles, good things are happening). Marcelias Sutton had a breakout game. Defensively, Kenneth Murray is really finding his groove. Addison Gumbs and Tre Brown are stars in the making.

All in all, great week for SS17. The Sooners have a few games against very manageable opponents ahead, so look for them to continue to be involved.
