Sooner Squad 17 Update – Game 10

Sooner Squad 17 (SS17) was a very hyped class for the Sooners. It featured some good talent and a lot of promise. It will be exciting to see the development of these players during their time at OU. SS17 started out with 27 players. Although one is no longer on the team, the late additions of Dillon Faamatu and, for the purposes of this post, Jeff Badet made it 28. (Yes, I know Badet is not technically in the recruiting class).

This is our weekly look into how that class is performing and what their contributions were in the most recent game.

ss17 – game 10 played

– Jeff Badet

– Robert Barnes

– Marquise Brown

– Tre Brown

– Grant Calcaterra

– Dillon Faamatau

– CeeDee Lamb

– Kenneth Murray

– Tre Norwood

– Trey Sermon

– Marcelias Sutton

11 players saw the field from SS17. That’s right at the average for the season. Robert Barnes, Tre Brown, and Tre Norwood saw their first starts of the season.

SS17 – Game 10 Stats & Highlights

Those contributions accounted for:

– 7% of the carries

– 0% of the rushing touchdowns

– 28% of the receptions

– 37% of the receiving yards

– 33% of the receiving touchdowns

– 52% of the all purpose yards

– 25% of the total tackles

– 17% of the total tackles for loss

This was another huge game for SS17.

Offensively, there wasn’t one single eye-popping stat line, but a lot of guys contributed. Lamb and Brown combined for over 100 yards, with Brown having a truly spectacular catch. Lamb looks so much more experienced on the field than he actually is. This puts his season into perspective (which is all the more impressive when thinking about how little he played in a few games due to injury).

Defensively, this week was huge. The Sooners started 4 true freshmen on defense. 4 – Barnes, Brown, Murray, Norwood. They came, they saw, they… played well. Murray and Barnes continued their excellent play. Beyond that, however, this was the longest look Sooner fans had up to this point of both the Tre’s, and they did not disappoint. There were quite a few instances for both of them where they broke up several passes, flew to the ball, had their heads turned around, you name it. They still have room to grow, but they’re going to make it really difficult to not keeping starting them.
