Saturday morning routine is to cook food for the day and have Gameday on in the background … and dangit if that sports channel didn’t have a 15 minute piece on the woes of texas and charlie strong. I really hate texsa … just friggin’ hate them. Of course, that feminist sports channel has been bought by UT, but even in a terrible year, that sports channel (which shall not be named) has the gall to openly commiserate with the longhorns on their biggest game of the season. I know few people on this board watch that SCWSNBN (sports channel which shall not be named), but the level of overt bias is insulting and worthy of scorn. Sorry to infest today’s thread with uterine disease, but OU is not getting ANY respect this season … and I really, REALLY want the good guys to BEAT THE HELL OUTTA TEXAS!!!!!
I hope we score that much, but I cannot see OU going there today. Their D practices against a mobile QB all the time … I dunno. I’m too pumped up to think logically right now though.
There was some who downright made fun of the idea of a 6’9″ guard but it has turned out well. I sure didn’t predict he would be a better guard than tackle. Hat off to Coach B.
Can’t help you with all the modern terminology. I think what they mean with Derek is he bends well in general, that could mean at the waist or the knees.
Baker mayfield interview of koco pregame made me a fan.
Favorite movie he said was the Bourne trilogy, and then shooter right behind that.
Mentioned Brett Favre as one of the three people he would like to have dinner with.
My son became a Baker fan when he found out Baker was a gamer. My son also stated that he could beat Baker in Halo 3. LOL Gotta love the confidence of a 12 year old.
People upset. Screaming. Complaining. Telling the organization that they are inept. Threatening to stop giving money to the company. Calling on the phone to give them a piece of their mind.
I hope Oregon gets beat by the fighting leaches today. They’re hosting bundage, mayden, and kelly today. Would be great for all 3 to realize that Oregon is falling off finally.
I think if more of those folks saw his interview with NewsOK a couple of months ago they might feel differently.
The number of stars don’t mean squat if the kid doesn’t have a good head on his shoulders.
I prefer that the talking heads focus on Texas. OU doesn’t do well when they are the talk of the town/nation. OU players and coaches HAVE to think they’re underdogs because Texas is a wounded animal backed into a corner.
This game will give us information about the extent to which OU is ruthless and lacks pity.
I totally agree with your last sentence, but wrt your previous 3 sentences, the sooners are not watching that nasty sports channel right now, they’re warming up!!! I get your drift though, i really do.
lol! I likes me some beans. I go with Grass-fed beef, onions, peppers, kidney, black and pinto beans, canned tomatoes, and BEER. I make my own seasoning with chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, pepper, garlic, and sometimes some cilantro. 🙂
I know. I did not develop this allergy until I turned 18, and it took 7 years to figure what was putting me in the hospital. No test for onion allergies…
Kind of like catching the bacon on fire in oven! I baked some more bacon the other night, and kept thinking about that… Like, how? I was watching closer though! haha
Well, it was a reverse pass, but they got into backfield, and andrews was covered down the field. Not necessarily agreeing with the call, but if it would have worked, then Damn.
Run to set up the pass! Run to set up the pass! Gadgets plays can be nice to take advantage of hyped up players but let’s get some success first at running the rock so they sell out to stop the run.
I’m gonna refrain from the negativity. I figured we were due for a slow start. That’s why in the prediction thread yesterday I said we need to have the game put away by halftime. Since it only took tcu 12 minutes to bury Texas last week.
Stop letting them get outside!!!! Pop warner coaches teach this. They look slow. Mike has them sitting back and waiting for UT to do what ever they want. Exactly what I was worried about.
The worst thing about the Stoops sometimes is their arrogance cause their teams seem to adopt that attitude and sometimes think showing up is enough to win
When teams blitz, it is up to qb to make the read and beat it. Bell could not in 2013, mayfield no better thus far. They will keep blitzing until he burns them
You all have seen OU being challenged all year and they have come out as a winner. Akron and Tennessee in the first half, Tulsa and WV in the second. Have some faith in your team.
Need to start dinking and dunking…Where is Andrews? Need to role Mayfield away from the inside rush, have a back on the blitzing cb and hit some short passes or run for yardage.
The problem is this becoming a recurring thing in recent years under big game Bob no excuses in my book this could be stoops worst coaching job for any game that I can remember.
I know, but back in the day, sports radio around here wore that sound bite out, and my little sister at the time did a hilarious job of impersonating it. Everytime someone says something about OU and the bone, i can’t help but say it.
You guys need to chill, this isn’t ideal but it isn’t out of hand and it isn’t Lincoln’s fault. Continue to settle in on Defense and the offense will make adjustments.
When everyone posts at once, it appears to be panic in aggregate but really i think we are just showing our displeasure is all. Its a long game we know
I’m just voicing my frustration. I have not bashed any coach, nor will I. I did bash the poor tackling on the first TD though. I know it is a long game, but our o-line is really bad.
Someone needs to explain to Mayfield that he is not a running back. Give the ball to Perine and Mixon. If pressured in the pocket get rid of the ball. Don’t take the sack.
It looked like he was either tripped or inadvertently got his feet tangled up a little bit right before the ball got there. EVERYTHING seems to be going in favor of the bad guys right now. Year in and year out it amazes me how out of balance this game gets … the underdog always seems to have a good chance in this game. Drives me insane ….
Thats the issue with not utilizing I-formation. Need downhill runs there. 1st and goal from 4, and we settle for FG, again. We will not solve our short yardage issues spreading it out.
I believe they should amend that rule to where if the targeting actually results in an injury, the perp should be ejected IF the target can no longer play in the game..
Also, that one was especially egregious since it was a blindside hit.
I’m thinking this game might really tilt in our favor very soon. It seems like Texass is one of those teams that comes out hitting hard, but just doesnt have the fire power to finish, and they will start getting pounded off the ball soon. Looks like the D is already taking over their Oline. I hope.
Mike Stoops calling a terrible game. Riley calling a terrible game. Offensive line sucks so bad. Defensive line getting no push. Receivers dropping passes. Not a recipe for success.
Our O-line sucks. Period. I’m sick of hearing about Bill the architect. Stoops is too dang loyal to Darlington. I love the kid – he’s a great ambassador for the university. But he has the blocking ability of a wet rag.

If you look at the Cal game, Texas respected their qb and didn’t blitz as much and when they did they got burned. Cal’s O line is also no bueno. Clearly after seeing film, not the same respect for Mayfield
let UT rush, just run bubble screens or passes in flat but get out of the pocket. Juco WRs just aren’t ready for primetime. WRs in general have to realize the blitz and go to check route. That’s the worst we can play so hopefully we will pick it up in 2nd half.
How about we not run bubble screens and we hand the ball off to Perine and Mixon on first and second down. We than get a short third down where we can run play action.
than he shouldn’t be the OC. It isn’t rocket science. A good OC tries to fit his offense to his players. A bad OC tries to fit his players to his offense.
Why is it every time we’re heavily favored, we end up looking like chumps? We desperately need to find a way to make sure that every game we’re the underdogs. Maybe bribe some people in Vegas?
Whelp…Every year Stoops has a let down game where OU loses to a team they shouldn’t. I really hope they can change some things at the half and take control of this game but from what I’ve seen so far I don’t see that happening. OUr o line is awful and you know they’re running it and they’re still picking up first downs. this is the worst they’ve played all season.
I feel totally confident we come back and win. Dropped passes and extremely poor play from the O line got us here but we will adjust. The girly man tackling on their touchdown was inexcusable though. We need to get fired up and play like we want it!
I’d love for you to be right, i just can’t see it right now. OU looked uninterested from the start and the o line, witht the exception of Brown, hasn’t shown that they block anybody yet. I wish I shared your confidence friend.
I don’t know that this is the plan. I think is more of this OL doesn’t know anything about picking up pressure and they’re breaking thru the middle and on the right side.
I think I know what play you’re talking about and that was just a poor play by darlington. He looked right way too long to see if he needed to help nila. Meanwhile the DL came right where darlington should have been.
I had to give up Jack about a year ago. It’s too hard on my system … I love bourbon though, so it was tough. Vodka is the true choice of alcoholics everywhere! 🙂
If we don’t come back to win this game I hope 25 thousand fans don’t show up for are next game that’s the only way this administration will get it.that’s is how Barry Switzer turned it around he was given an ultimatum win or you are out.
Unless the 3rd quarter gets even more ugly, I believe we can still win this game. Riley needs to alter his play calling IF the plays exist in the minds of his boys to do so. Also, the D has to be getting stronger for us to win. A few ut turnovers would be awesome, but I’m hoping the guys know they can do better AND they have the will to do so. Pro teams come back from this level of deficit all the time, so I hope they can reign in their emotions and give rise to their inner machines. Time to terminate the hope of the bad guys.
checking in. Hope no one has been fired yet. If the pass from the six was a tiny bit lower or if Westbrook had managed a miracle catch, I’d feel better. BUT, it feels to me like we have slowly begun to take control of the game. The defense appears to have figured out the qb run a bit, and is showing spectacular effort on the past couple of possesions–finally. Pretty weak efforts by, not everyone, but by several early on. Might need to show them the 2013 game one more time. 🙁 The O had a nice drive as well, finally. Baker getting a bit more time.
Showing/reminding the team of the 2013 game is actually negative reinforcement if not done correctly … seriously. It’s actually not as easy to go over that negative stuff as you might think … just sayin’.
I think we kind of predicted the game might at least start like this due to the ridiculous amount of talent on the longhorns. Kudos to Norvell and Strong for the best game plan, but I think that the adjustments we’ve seen along with more at half time will give us a good chance in the second half.
I’ve seen SO MANY of these kinds games over the Stoops years. Winning them has been incredibly rare, so I’m not as optimistic as you all seem to be. The only thing I’m clinging to is the fact that we came back on the road to Tennessee…a more talented team overall IMO than uterus. We’ll see. But what I do know is that if we lose to uterus today, I’m turning off CFB for the rest of the season.
We’ve had two drops, and two incidents of receivers falling down. Gotta figure we’ll see better results in second half. The entire momentum of the game swung UTs way when Baxter dropped the screen pass in the first drive that may have gone for a score.
We have one good WR, Shepherd. Why are we expecting our other WRs to carry the team. My problem is that we have two potential NFL RBs, yet they only carry the ball 8 times combined. I don’t get our offensive philosophy.
I don’t mean to insult our WRs. Neal has moments and Westbrook has great potential. But you don’t build your offense around them when you have Perine and Mixon.
Okay! Everyone check their gameday gear. Is something missing from your routine? Someone leave off their favorite shirt? Hat? Wrong socks? Come on now! We need corrections! lol
There are a lot of issues here, but the most inexplicable to me is that St. John is telegraphing every stinking play and we are using that head nod snap (I get this with crowd noise but not today). So what does UT see? They know a pass is coming and they can time the snap every single time. Even a great o line cannot overcome that. And obviously we aren’t great. They are teeing off right on time every time on us.
Disappointed we have come in and played so poorly two years in a row. That said, I am very proud how they have shown the grit to win this year and think they will prevail here as well. Texas just wants to run the ball and the clock and count on their D. If I was them I would come out throwing, but don’t think they will do that because they are afraid of turnovers. I think we should take our shots deep on first down to give Mayfield a little more time to throw.
yeah, it sure didn’t look good for our safety. when you see a hit coming, your body can at least react to protect, but that was a total cheap shot to his blindside. You hate to see that, but to tell you the truth, if I was in a bar with a longhorn right now, I’d do what i could to start a fight with the queer.
If we lose this game, I am quitting on the Sooners…until next week 😉 They take years off my life due to completely unnecessary stress, but that’s the school I chose
OK guys, I’m off this thread … Ou looks like they don’t care, and UT is doing whatever they want. Bob is on path to yet another WTF? loss. Pathetic and I have nothing positive left to say so ciao everyone. I’ll see you on the flipside of this game.
Heard is being very decisive! One read. He takes off! He’s not forcing anything. He’s throwing the ball away to avoid sacks.
Just another rhythm qb we are making look like a heisman
Why does it take Urban Meyer 3rd quarters to wake up OSU? Sark at USC didn’t wake up. Perhaps your expectations of CFB and OU is too high for this day and age when every team has talented players.
First lets not be critical much cause the penalty gives them field position we had a great drive, 2 things I noticed on that drive we left a blocker in to pick up the blitz for the edge, and second we ran quick snaps and quick routes, great adjustment on that first drive. Plus Mayfield is a tough kid!
Texas is celebrating like it’s over and they are only up 7 at the moment with an entire quarter left. That’s how little they think of our offense today.
Point was made that Texas has out ran us the last 2 years was brought up and we can’t win if we can’t run. Just IMO mean point fingers at Mike but, it’s not just Mike guys the push is not there up front. Mayfield can’t do it all we need Perine and Mixon to be able to run.
This is not Mike stoops’ fault. They’ve only scored 17 points so far and even if they score here their TDs are from basic runs where none of the players on the field could make a tackle.
Exactly. Riley walked in with playmakers all over, a QB familiar with his system, and we score 10 on the worst Texsa team since 1950-whatever? Not sold.
While that is true, has the playcalling really been the mark of an offensive genius? I’d say no. But I’m also pissed. So right now I’m mad at everything.
The announcers are calling the play before the snap. you would think MS would anticipate this as well. Playing rest of season for a crappy bowl where they will be uninspired like last year and lose. Then we start the hype all over again.
We are not OU anymore. I thought things had turned against WV. Just pathetic. I’m moving to Japan in 2016 and this will be my final season to follow OU. Just don’t have the ability to be top 5 any longer. Just disgusting unless Sooner Magic appears.
I’m going to watch this game play out. Because it’s the last time I’m watching this year. This is stupid. We can’t stop anyone. We can’t cover passing teams. We can’t stop running teams. This is a one-dimensional team that scored 7 points against a decimated TCU defense, and they’re walking over us like we’re not even there. I’m done watching this year, and maybe even years to come. I can’t put up with this lack of discipline and effort.
Everyone is blaming our defense, but where in the world is our offense? Here’s the points teams have scored on TX in the first 5 games: 38, 28, 45, 30, 50. We have 10. I mean even Rice scored 28!!!
It’s a total team lack of effort. I blame the defense primarily because texass is a one-dimensional team and we can’t even stop that. But the offense isn’t getting a pass either.
Changed coordinators… we have been soundly beaten by both Venables and now Norvell (I know the game isn’t over but even if somehow we win this debacle we got our ass kicked). Maybe coordinator isn’t the problem.
I kind of get that our offense is in transition — and that Riley is having trouble running his system with the players we have. The O line, in particular, is brutally bad. But M. Stoops hasn’t got that excuse. Another astonishingly poor defensive effort.
Ok people, I am an OU fan but, you whoa is me fans got to go! We knew in seriousness that we where at least one season away from being contenders but 4-0 and we are the greatest team ever get real well most of y’all!
History. That’s all I have to say. Seen too many of these games in the Stoops era turn into routs. If it weren’t for friggin’ Mayfield, this game would be a blowout.
It’s been a good run but nobody expected us to hit the playoffs. Sooner or later, we knew the line was gonna get us. No need calling out players….the coaches put kids in that position. Clean up what we can and close out the season strong. Disappointed
It pisses me off and makes me laugh at the same time that the only way uterus can do well is by picking up former OU players/coaches. DKR, Mack, Norvell. Almost makes me nervous to fire Stoops.
So disappointed. I didn’t figure on a NC this year but I didn’t expect this. The O Line is just beyond pathetic. Defense gave up ridiculous yards to a one-dimensional offense. Even the fumble on special teams. Just terrible in every aspect of the game. They didn’t even show up today. Looking at 8-4 to finish out the regular season?
Dear OU- You actually have to show up and play the game to win. That means tackle and block. Just because you are OU and in the top 10, doesn’t mean you just get the win. I hate to have to break this to you, but it seems like your head coach doesn’t want to tell you.
Unacceptable performance. Texas is exactly who we thought they were– a very beatable team. We deserved to lose when we play like that. Coaching has to be better.
Well, see you guys next year. Maybe. I know I’m done with OU for this season at least. Been an OU fan since birth (39 years). Seen a lot of good and less bad. Given Stoops a lot of benefit of the doubt lately. But, he’s used up the cache he built from #7, IMO. This was the one last chance that I was willing to endure. There are plenty of teams in CFB going 3+ losses every season and losing to their rivals, and making less than $5mill. I love the guy, will always appreciate the good he has done. But this is downright unacceptable. I’ll always love OU, but just like a child that keeps screwing up over and over, I can’t bear to watch anymore. Time to find something else to do on Saturdays in the Fall.
From the get go, we did not play to stop the run. Is it that hard? We looked confused when the WR would come across the QB and they would run the read. Stupid. I don’t know what to do with this team.
The right side of our oline got abused. And another time a Bob Stoops has come flat and laid an egg against an inferior opponent. I understand it’s a rival game but wow.
Yea, it might’ve been man. Needed to run the table for our confidence to build. We always get this freak loss that we shouldnt lose, and it totally derails the season. Damn.
Uh, I’m thinking that destruction by USC in the NC in 2004 is worse than this. But then again, that’s my opinion. I think the loss in 2013 was worse than this one as well. Again, just my opinion.
Worst performance I have ever witnessed first hand. We sat in the Texas side and even they thought they were going to get blown out. Riley called a horendous game….run on 1st almost every series. Seriously? Defense….what the hell??? Everyone knew either heard or the halfback was getting it. What were they on oasses….3 of 7?? Complete waste of a season!!!
baker ate the ball too many times. we need a quick release and quick hits when they are blitzing us like that. nothing at all. it was a poor performance by the whole offense.
The routes are being run too deep. Adjustments needed to combat no O line. He had more than enough time it wasn’t a 1, 2, sack…NO one was getting open.
I’ve been “chill” for 6 years. I’m all outta “chill”. I had a bad feeling when I saw Bob say he basically “googled the highest scoring offense and air-raid n stuff” when we’re not built for that. It’s showing…..and Riley hasn’t impressed me at all.
I’m with you. No matter records its a 50/50 game every year. Just seems Perine and Mixon should have more than 8 touches in one half. And too many times we don’t run screens or misdirections when our oline is getting abused. Our season isn’t trashed yet. Hopefully this was an eye opener. I’m just disappointed because with our stable of backs we should have wrinkles for them.
I do agree with that. It is hard to run when your o-line cannot get out of their own way to block. UGH! However we cannot win games giving up 313 yards on the ground. We only put up 67 yards rushing. That is not going to win a lot of games. Especially when our QB is on his back half the time.
This is the worst coaching performance since he has been here it’s time the fans show just how upset they are don’t go to the next game show this administration sooner nation is very upset.
I knew we would lose a few games this year and I didn’t expect much from this season more than improvement. I always thought next year would be good for us. However, I thought we would lose to great teams that were just better than us. Today we lost to a bad team and it was truly a scary sign for OU football.
Every season after we lose the game we should have won I always think ‘maybe next year.’ But then next year comes and we do it again. Just so disappointing.
I will survive. But it does suck. Of course, I never rub it in and he always does. But that’s ok. I will stay with class. I am Sooner Born and Sooner Bred and when I die I’ll be Sooner dead.
Yes sir. Good job. We have to remain classy and take the high road. These same fans I’ve tried to encourage after we hang half a hundred on them. SMH….
agreed having one side of the family from Texas and the other from OK..its the worthless convos im going to have to entertain knowing that Texas will go out and get trashed by other teams in the next few weeks
I live in Round Rock, just north of Austin. I’m getting killed from every yahoo uterus fan in the area. Their gloating is so annoying. It reminds me of why I hate them so.
They have no class. My shorthorn fan showed he had no class. After him bashing on me for two days, I cornered him at church and asked him this simple question “How many text messages or slams did you get from me last year when we won?” He looked at me and said none, I said exactly. I congratulated you on a hard fought game and that was it. He did not apologize, but he did stop with his comments. I could see in his eyes that he knew exactly what I was saying to him.
I guess it’s time to leave the thread to those who wish we were like Alabama and don’t lose to teams we shouldn’t… oh , wait, I meant USC, oh wait… anyway… poor outing from the Sooners for sure. Can’t let Texas get a big lead early and certainly can’t give up an 81 yd run. It feels like that was the ball game.
I think I would be a little more forgiving of we were like Bama and had won a national championship in the last 15 years. Not that I thought we would this year, but still.
Doubtful. You might want to check the Alabama fan sites, or any other team for that matter, if you think that’s the case. I’m sure you’re not “like those guys,” but most are. Maybe you’d be more forgiving if Stoops had beaten Texas more than any other coach in OU’s history…No, I didn’t think so.
Easy to be critical and trash your team when they lose. I saw an offense that never gave up again and a defense that was just too tired after getting the ball run on them all game. Sure there were a lot of mistakes, but they will be back. This team has a lot of character and fight in them and I admire that.
All those missed tackles in the beginning were not due to “being tired.” Defense actually got better when they were tired, save for that damn 81 yard run.
We got beat but I found this very interesting. UT ran successfully and never ONCE got a holding penalty. hmm. Had 2 def pass interference calls and no other penalty called. NO late hits especially on Mayfield and being blocked well after the play. We do that once and get 15. We can have one bad game but we better be sharp from here on out. UT will come down and get beat 3 or 4 more times this year.
I was surprised by the lack of emotion, especially by the D. They were way too far on the business-like side of the edge today. That hadn’t been the case in any of our previous games this season.
The whiffs on tackles. Not fundamentally sound on the most important fundamental. If you can’t tackle. You shouldn’t be playing on defense. Don’t throw a shoulder or stick an arm out. Drive though that man like you wanted to crush is spleen.
OUr oline just is not that good and as someone said earier Darlington just wasnt that differnce maker…Farniok was absolutely horrible and St John well lets just say he did his normal…put Alvarez in the middle and slide Samia in there as well
Totally agree. St. Johns didn’t even try half the time. He got Baker sacked more than once He needs to sit. Play for the future. Start developing the talent that wants to play hard and learn. Get the loafers out.
Bob was just interviewed on radio. Certainly didnt hold back in reference to offenses “lackluster” performance. Did mention that in 2013, we rallied from this game to go on and win the “Sugar Bowl.”
He did, but not as strongly as the offense. Said the D needs better tackling, but thought they got better as game went on (which they did.) But no, he seemed pretty honest about our play, with the exception of acknowledging a lack of motivation (so it seems.)
It’s the same problem as the whole season has been OL play. Coach B has to figure something out or replace guys PERIOD. I know they are young but it’s time to start improving. I don’t think they have started to improve at all.
The O line is bad, so why not go with the young guys so we can build!!! Nila and Ty are bad but St. John is horrible and tips the play every down!!!! Go with the young guys and let them get better!! Hell, our season is over because there is no way a 1 loss big 12 team gets to the playoff. Mediocore team in a mediocre conference. Just watch Bill Snyder out coach us again!!!
I used to think Venables left because his feelings were hurt. Now I’m starting to think he saw what was coming and abandoned the ship before the holes got bigger.
Agree. Venables was promoted when M Stoops left, then demoted when he came back, how humiliating. I’m sure he’s feeling pretty good when he sees a performance like today, but would only tell his wife.
Everyone thought I was crazy to say this game scared me. I still love my Sooners, but they just won’t get it done this year. Regroup still a lot of games this year fellas.
I don’t expect any sooner fan who is not old enough Oklahoma football before 1990 but we where once the most feared team in college football what has happen the the Sooners the last five years is pathetic.sorry sooner nation for those who can’t remember the Barry Switzer, or bud wilkinson dynasties it was special.
So you’re calling up the ghost of Bud Wilkinson who lost 8 years in a row to Texas? Bud was the greatest but bringing him up in the context of this Texas game is ridiculous.
No doubt. I used to listen to KFOX Jimmini christmas…OU won more games than anybody from 73-88. Three titles, could have been 7-8 though. Some disappointments as well. But we destroyed people, even having to play Tex and Neb every year.
I just want somebody to tell why we should be optimistic about the rest of the year and stoops post game saying just like 2013 we could end up in the sugar bowl is pathetic he is in a state of denial.
Well. We have to separate what is logically possible from what we think the potential of this team is. Yes, go 11-1 will get into the playoff. But with the O line nad D lines 9-3 is likely.
But they won national championships and never had a 5 year old run like Bob stoops is having come on stoops is know saying we can go to the sugar bowl not the playoffs this is the problems with Stoops he has lost touch with reality.
He never said we could go to the Sugar Bowl. He just said we’ve encountered a loss in this game and still had a successful season when all was said and done. Don’t give up on the season. He’s talking to the players, of course, not you, because you’ve already given up.
I was too young to remember the 2000 championship game. I remember the ones after that just fine, though. Oh, well. Nothing new here, just going to move on and look forward to next year or whatever we manage to do with the rest of this season.
I loved Switzer and his great teams, but in todays game there are a lot more teams that can beat you as long as they have a good QB. Teams in Switzers era were not very efficient passing the ball and not many could run it against his defensive fronts.
That said, Switzer would have never lost to a team like this Texas team. One dimensional and not even that great at running the football.
We have a game like this every year I’m not sure why everyone is so surprised I feel like the game has passed coach stoops up and everyone that’s so big on our O-line coach why haven’t any of the guys he recruited produced? All the starters last year none of them were his guys and it’s obvious by the shuffling of the line this year he doesn’t know what to do. There is also a talent problem with ou has been for a couple of years now there are a few on here that refuse to believe this but you have to recruit talent to win something we are not doing very well just my 2 cent.
I’m not so sure the “game” has passed him up, I think its just that the “Fire” that he brought here, is gone, and has been for 6-7 years now. Not sure he or his teams will ever get it back.
You are correct sir, percentage Bob does not play to win anymore, he plays not to lose!!!!! There is no edge and hasn’t been for some time now!!! We knew they had to run and still cud do nothing about it. We played safe and hoped to win that way. Wake up Bob!!! Coach like you are about to lose your job because you are getting close to the end of your tenure!!!!!
Well, gents, we all sort of knew that OU was living on borrowed time, having overcome O line struggles and needing Mayfield to pull off some miracles to save the day in previous games. Caught up to us today. So it goes.
If you are a numbers guy, you realize that there have only been 2 National Championships in THIRTY – i.e. Three Zero (30) years. Alabama has at least 4.
The memory of people on this site, and mine, extends to ’74/’75, ’85, ’00 and the fifties. But, if you are 17 years old, you don’t remember a lot about Oklahoma being on top.
I love the university and the state and OU. But something, someone really got complacent and hired their friends – SEE OU O line results – the result of several years of bad recruiting.
Boren, our great leader, who has done many things right, got TOTALLY outflanked by Texas and the Longhorn Network. Texas buried the Big 12. I think OU needs to find a new conference and a breath of fresh air. The playing field has changed, I actually like the “multiple uniforms” and would have liked a new look today, as an extra lift, screw tradition, if it’s not working, change your approach, anything for a lift and a win – and, losing games you are supposed to win, which honestly, Bob Stoops’ teams do much more often than Barry’s did, doesn’t help. You cannot, unfortunately count on a Bob Stoops teams to win the games they should. Maybe they can regroup, 2013 is a great example, but this is yet another spectacular failure by a Bob Stoops coached team and I have seen way TOO may of these, thinking of past NC’s games and Fiesta Bowls. They do have a chance, still. But the r
oad, with the OL play is going to be difficult. Hoping for the best and go SOONERS. Let’s return to the top.
Having said that, with whom do you replace him? But these days, OU is just another destination for top in-state talent along with out of state schools.
I can’t think of a single thing Boren has done right in the last five years. And that includes supporting liberal policies that make tuition higher for everyone.
Trying my best not to burst into a curse strewn rant. I could not believe how flat we came out. This has been my biggest problem with Bob. If he doesn’t have the “No Respect” card he can’t get his team fired up.
This game was lost in the 1st quarter. Poor tackling on the first TD run and we don’t even try to get to the football on the Swoopes fumble into the endzone. We had great field position to start the game and did nada with it.
OUr OL and DL are not made for physical football. LB’s also don’t stop guys in their tracks. The opposing RB’s seem to always get 1 or 2 yards after contact. defensive front is talented but just not Physical.
Our DT’s are not physical. They are not that big of guys. Dimon is under 290 Romar is not a great player by any means. Charles Walker, who doesn’t start is the most physical presence in the middle. How Tapper let Heard get out of his grasp on 3 and 14 in BEYOND ME.
Well……if we win out, we’ll win the conference and likely make it into the playoff. But there’s no way the team that showed up today is going to take down Baylor in Waco, let alone pull off the straight flush of KSU, TCU, Baylor, Tech, and OSU. The potential is there, but not the discipline or the consistency. Not yet anyway.
Not to be that guy or anything but again the Big 12 refs missed TWO HUGE calls. There was a huge hold on the 81 yard run and then another one were Heard got a first down on that 3rd and long in the 4th quarter with about 3 minutes to play. OU deserved to lose this one but the refs surely let Texas get away with a win. By the officiating being so awful from week to week in almost nearly every Big 12 matchup, you’d think someone would do something about it.
Are you referring to the hold on J. Evans on that big run? I thought I saw that, but didn’t back up the DVR to check. Seemed like the blocker had Jordan wrapped around the should and pulled him completely out of the play. That was huge — maybe the biggest play of the game for Texas.
He didn’t block J Evans, he tackled him. Wrapped him up around the neck tackle. Horrible. 55 run plays by UT – NOT ONE HOLDING PENALTY. For a line that isn’t supposed to be good, that’s fing incredible.
Two rather big surprises in this game: 1) Riley didn’t have a game plan (or adjustments) for Texas’ blitz schemes. Why? The OU O line has struggled all year against blitz packages. You’d think by now he’d have schemes to neutralize some that — shovel passes, shorter routes, etc. I like a lot of things Riley is doing with this team, but today’s scheme — or lack of it, was puzzling. 2) Texas could run effectively against our defense without M. Stoops bringing more guys into the box to stop them. Why? Did he really think Texas was going to beat us with the pass? Once again M. Stoops fails to have his defense ready and then stubbornly refuses to make adjustments.
Other things were not so surprising. The fact that Texas clearly wanted this game much more than our players is discouraging but not unexpected. They needed this win to salvage their season and possibly to save their coach. Our players said all the right things before the game about how dangerous this game was, but either they didn’t really believe it or they couldn’t find the motivation. That one’s on Bob. And unfortunately, it’s become a pattern. Why does OU play poorly in the games they are favored to win?
some times I think the OU coaches set these plans on purpose to lose games.. Reason ? cut down on the pressure to win titles as well as Boren’s mantra stressing academic success over athletic success…
I kind of doubt that Bob is going to have another opportunity. The big donors made it pretty clear last year that he needed to make whatever changes to turn things around and that they would pay for staff changes — but that his future would depend on the result. He made a lot of good changes, but he left his brother in charge of the defense.
I hope I am. I hope they rebound and have a nice year. But another 4 or 5 loss season is not going to please the deep pockets around here. A lot depends on how they respond to this loss and come out next week. Mind you, I like Bob Stoops — I really do. But I think his brother has been consistently disappointing.
Losing the early game takes all the fun out of watching the rest of the day’s games. Now I’ll just have to go for a walk or something. I don’t like taking walks.
Yep. I have to say, I said repeatedly on this blog all week that Texas was going to be a tough game. Wish I had been wrong – like I am abut so many other things.
Yes Brad. I couldn’t watch any more. I tried. Just couldn’t. I feel sick to my stomach. I don’t even want to watch my Cowboys today. I guess I’m pretty thankful this morning that there is more to life than football.
Our offensive sets leave no margin for error, and everyone is missing assignments. Offensive line can’t pick up the rush on the edges, backs consistently miss blocks, and honestly, Mayfield should see the heavy sets when LB’s are obviously coming and audible TE release and would be wide open over the middle. The run game is a joke, nothing more to add there.
I understand what M. Stoops was thinking, more athletes to contain Heard. But he forgot that this made us softer in the middle. With only 2 Dlineman, Ut OL was getting to second level on Alexander and Evans. Most I have seen them have to take on blocks this year.
I understand what you are saying, tackling was awful!. However, with only 2 DL, more UT OL were getting to the second level of blocking. Dom and Evans, were being blocked more then I have seen all year.
I’m actually not as upset as I thought I’d be. Texas had, all at once, both nothing & everything to lose – and so they won. It may be the last one they win all year, but OU…we’ll be all right. I like the heart of this team, and I like where we’re headed. Oklahoma with a loss is still better than being Texas with a win. BOOMER.
The truth about Venables is he was always far better than some of our fans gave him credit for. Now he is running one of the top rated D’s in the country and probably doesn’t miss this fan base one bit. Same goes for Mike right now…..there are adjustments to be made, but there just isn’t any DC out there who’s likely to do any better.
right venables kinds of gets a pass to a point he is not facing the spreads week after week i dont believe Venables hasnt just out of the blue became a better DC then Mike
Zero spread offenses is exactly the point. These other DC’s look great in the SEC, B1G, etc. Then they play one of the more potent offenses in the post season and get shredded. Alabama the last few years is exhibit A. Where is the D that consistently gets it done against the more high powered offenses?
That one was coming like an oncoming train. Boys been reading their press clippings while the Uteras guys were just getting pissed off. Oh well, on to the next one. Boomer
1: Have to put a lot of the blame today on OLine/Bedenbaugh. They played absolutely terrible and got no push. Yeah Perine didnt get many carries but it didnt matter, any run play was basically a wasted play that put us in 2nd and long
2. Time for Bedenbaugh to carry his weight this year. Dude inherited some great lines and hasn’t done anything with guys he brought in. And his only recruit this year is a 2 star from Oklahoma that has no other major offers.
3. Time to reshuffle the whole OL. I think Brown has played ok enough to hold on to a spot. Farniok, Darlington, Nila, and St. John need to go. Move Alvarez to center. Samia at RT. No clue who to put on the interior.
4. Goes without saying but time for Mike Stoops to go. Unfortunately I think that means Bob has to go also. He tied himself to Mike and risked his future on his brother and it failed.
5. No clue who to go after as a coach if Stoops is gone. Tom Herman at UH can recruit like hell and theyre undefeated maybe?
No disrespect here, but I don’t think it was about adjusting or adapting. I think it was more a case of M. Stoops out smarting himself. Also, how big a deal was losing Bond for this game? Did that contribute to MS getting to cute?
Guys we are too small and weak on the lines. Look at the top teams around the nation. You will find size and speed. At some point the training staff has to come into question. We can’t beat top teams because of this. Every year the O-line and D-line gets dominated by top competition. Bedenbaugh can’t recruit and so our line has suffered. Blame Mike all you want but players were in position to make plays it was just the lack of physicality. The one constant from all the underachieving teams over the years has to be the training staff. Time to try some new methods and get Bedenbaugh some help. We have to give Coach Reynolds the benefit of the doubt because its his first year. Riley will be ok but today was a terrible game plan and he was shell shocked. Great blitz schemes by Texas today.
Good analysis!!! We just don’t have a clue how to manage a whole season anymore. We have ups and downs but we cannot be consistent with this coaching staff!! I am calling you out Bob Stoops!!! You are very mediocre!!! the pressure is off now so you can go coach better because our season is over once again. 15 years and no sniff of a title!!!!
I’ve been saying for years when someone posed the question who would I hire to replace him, my choice was Kyle Whittingham at Utah. There are others out there I’d consider too, but KW is one of my favorites.
First Whittingham is a LDS member. He, his father and three brothers played a BYU. He was offered both the BYU job and the Utah job the same year. His siblings wanted him to go to BYU his wife and children wanted him to stay a Utah where he had been an assistant for 10 years. In consulted with the LDS’s president and elders before selecting Utah for his wife and children. Whittingham would never consider OU. He is never leaving Utah.
Well, he ain’t the only fish in the pond (colloquialism intended). I also like Justin Fuente, but there are plenty of quality asst or head coaches in college, and plenty of NFL asst coaches who want a head coaching job.
I can tell you who I don’t want too: Venables. Been there, done that, pass.
Riley called a horrible game. Took him a half to admit we could not pass pro a five-step drop. It’s criminal what he’s doing with Perine – off-tackle was there all day and he called it twice. His run game is so simplistic it would embarrass a junior high coach – straight ahead. I agree about Bedenbaugh, but this offense DOES NOT FIT our personnel, and hiring Riley was a mistake. What would we be if we didn’t have Mayfield pulling plays out of his wallet?
Agreed on point 4, and if the head coach leaving is the necessary price, pay it. This program needs new leadership desperately. We’ve swapped out coach after coach, and nothing has changed.
All the swapping we did last year was just done to protect Mike. JH needed to go, but so did Mike. You can put lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig.
Things have to change. This is embarrassing for Oklahoma.Did we lose against that Texas team???I don’t know, i remember that excellence was the standard for OU. And this is far from it.
Remember when people were reporting that Mixon and Perine were so good that it didn’t matter that our Oline wasn’t good? Yeah, about that….And, This is the same old crap. Losing as a double digit favorite. How many does that make for Stoops? Seems like it happens on a yearly basis. This program has gone stale. Its in need of a change. Sadly.
I remember when OU was Baylor. IDK what happened to “big game Bob” haven’t seen him in years. Maybe for a game or two but not like the guy we hired in ’99 that had that fire and swagger about him.
We scored with qb under center I-formation late in the game. Perhaps mix that in with the air raid in the middle of the field, too. PERINE is an elite back, and we need to use him. He is our best player, I believe. This magic offense needs to adjust to its players’ strengths.
Scored twice with it. Would LOVE to see it in the middle of the field. Perine needs to be downhill. He can get 2-3 yards all on his own that way (almost.) But then we wouldn’t be “air raid,” if we run I-formation too much.
Yup. I’ve been defending Bob about being in decline as well as our program being in decline and I can’t do that anymore. Losses like this are severely damaging our program’s esteem nationwide. I’m tired of reading “Big Game Bob” as a punchline and “Chokelahoma”. But it’s true. I can’t deny it anymore.
Can’t deny facts and maintain credibility. The only sure fire win I see left for us is KU. Say what you like, you can’t fire the players but you can and should the coaching staff.
Anyone remember the rumors (IF they were even true) during all the coaching changes that Bedenbaugh and Riley didnt like each other previously? I had forgotten about that until it just popped in my head, but I wonder how their relationship is now….?

I hate that I called this(admittedly a week early with WVU), but our O-line play is abysmal. Darlington got manhandled all day at center, Brown was a turnstile, and the right side was no better. We go as far as our O-line can take us and unfortunately, that’s not very far. We are a 3-4 loss team as it stands now. Baylor and TCU will throttle us unless something changes. TTech and little brother can both beat us as well. Hello, Alamo Bowl.
Very interested to see how the team responds to this loss. It could be a remarkable run, or it could be a dismal failure. As much as I hate to say it, credit to Texas and their coaching staff for stepping-up with nothing to lose.
They aren’t improving enough week to week. I don’t see how they respond in any major way. We can look forward to a blitz-fest every Saturday for the rest of the season.
perhaps it was mentioned here during the game, but listening to several radio guys talk about the ou guards (a/o other olinemen) giving away whether run/pass play by something in their stance……also mentioned by the tv commentators…….said it was never corrected during the game
also, several players that are now radio guys were on the sideline and commented how spiritless and lack of fight was displayed on the sideline by the ou players during most of the game, only showing life when things got critical late in the game………iow, tx sideline was fired up and ou was absent for the most part which they found astonishing
Feel like I’ve been gut punched. Complete fail from top to bottom for my team. It’s useless to place blame, point fingers or call names because it doesn’t help anything. Nobody is getting fired, including Charlie Strong. I don’t want to say something I’ll regret on here, so I’m out. Really dread the media next few days. Still love my Sooners and Texsa still sucks.
I don’t need to wait for any breakdowns from a x&o guru to know our defensive formations made no sense. Why didn’t we just load box and stop run. Geez. What a monumental letdown.
Someone explain this to me…
Before the game had someone told you we would give up 24 points, would you have thought you would be whining about the defense?
My guess is no, because everyone expected us to score 40 or more points.
So why is it that everyone is blaming the defense? Sure they gave up the big 81 yard run, thanks to a hold…yes they couldn’t stop the run. But what was the offense doing.
Bedenbaugh gets a lot of credit, I think he’s due for some criticism. St. John should have been benched as soon as spielman started breaking down his hand tipping or feet tipping. Sticking with darlington at center is going to cause us to lose other close games. I think brown and farniok are actually a force over on the left side. We need Alvarez to be at center if darlington is going to miss read where he needs to protect. I would consider moving Nila out to RT and putting dalton in at RG.
I’m not going to go further on any changes because I think that it would be over reacting to ask for changes on defense because they only gave up 24, if they gave up 40+ then ok let’s talk about the defense. The 3 and outs on offense are killer.
Again the defense didn’t do anything that was killer until the very last drive when we couldn’t force a stop. Baker getting sacked 6 times took us out of the game.
That and the turnover by Ross. That was a killer. Defense looked really bad in spots. The whiffs on that touchdown run. But it was mostly the offense that did us in.
That defines why I said all off season that we fired the wrong coaches. Our offense may have sputtered, but our defensive game plan was a pathetic joke.
Weird, based on your analysis “game plan was pathetic” I would imagine we got the doors blown off the defense. Yet that’s not what happened. Clearly mike expected more pass plays. Norvell showed he can call a good game. But that doesn’t say anything about developing players.
Defense didn’t bother me as much as no adjustments in the offense. We could’ve killed them with the zone read quick throw on a short seam. Only one pass in middle of field, don’t get it. Our offense plays a decent game and we put UT on their heels and they don’t score 24.
Zack, I see your point but once UT got up by 10, everyone in the house knew they were going to run and protect the ball. No conceivable reason MS shouldn’t have reacted to that.
We would stop them only to go 3 & out. We would put our D right back out there. If our O would’ve stepped up, maybe the D steps up too. They feed off of each other.
That number is meaningless. What matters is the flow of the game, and it was obvious they were going to run the ball almost exclusively in the second half. No excuse for not shifting to a four man front. Our LBs were getting pasted by their OL.
Fix one aspect and another one opens up. It looks like mike was comfortable letting Texas run. Not mikes fault the offense didn’t even hit half the season average. We should have hung 40 points easy but everyone wants to talk about defense.
3-12 on third down is going to lose games. Can’t rely on the defense to bail you out.
Totally agree. This loss is on the offense. I don’t understand why we didn’t try to counter their pass rush with more screens, some counters, three-step drops, short routes. When your O line is overmatched you have to help them out.
And baker doesn’t even look for the swing pass. Texas was going to let us have that all day.
I don’t like that we aren’t running half back screens. A very underrated play
You couldn’t realistically expect BM to be able to pass with the rush in his face before a receiver could run a route. They were running thru our o-line like a cheap burrito. And our defense was in complete disarray all game.
The defense relies frequently on the offense to bail it out, occasionally the offense needs the favor returned. And this is an awful football team, neither the O or the D should have struggled.
I agree with you in a sense, but it’s the way the defense was playing. Not the points. The awful tackling and the fact that UT only ran the ball and we couldn’t stop it.
But the criticism is of mike. Were the players mostly in position to make a tackle? I believe so, that falls on execution. I think that’s why we saw Tay Evans in the game.
Just thought about our “visitors” that were on the Texas sidelines today since they were the home team. And I wonder how much influence Norvell had towards exposing our obvious run defense tendencies, aka, misdirection plays and running QB’s always eat our lunch and throw the wrappers in our face, then burp.
Big Game Bob? Stoops is 6-6 in his past 12 games against Power Five opponents. Big Game Bob? Stoops has lost 11 games since 2012 and nine of those defeats were at home or a neutral site. Big Game Bob? This is the second time in three seasons Oklahoma’s national championship hopes have vanished by losing as a double-digit favorite to a Texas program in disarray.”
To lose to a team that awful isn’t “a bad day”…it is simply inexcusable. A game plan that doesn’t take advantage of the other team’s greatest weakness makes zero sense. All the poor tackling/defensive play has to stop.
This kind of thing is becoming far too commonplace. This isn’t Sooner football. I am ready for change.
After a long walk, my blood pressure and frustration have subsided, and I’m ready to give a calm, considered analysis, both good and bad. I’ll start with the negative, just to get it out off the way, so I can move on to the good. When you can’t detect a blitz, that’s bad. When you do detect it , and still can’t stop it, that’s bad. When a DT who is DOUBLE teamed cuts through to the QB like a knife though butter, that’s bad. When a RB runs right past a blizting LB on the edge like he’s a ghost, that’s bad. When receivers fall down on potential TD passes, or drop a screen with a wedge in fron that might have taken him to the house, that’s bad. When you refuse to adjust a defense that is getting pummeled by the run, that’s bad. BUT…here’s the good: Man, that Austin Seibert can kick!
JB, we all know you hate Mike & Bob. Let’s say Bob is forced to resign this year. Who is our HC in your opinion. If you want someone gone, surely you have a solution.
Fuente and venables would be at the top of my list. Saw some one on another site throw out briles, and I think people who suggest briles should be voted off the island. I firmly believe briles is breaking rule after rule down in Waco and it will all come out sooner or later.
I’m not in favor of letting bob go at all. But if he can’t get this team to respond next week and the rest of the season then the writing may be on the walls. I have faith that he can get the players ready. If we make it to 10-2, I think most will still be disappointed but those will be the same ones who picked OU to be 8-5 at best this year and are also the ones picking us to lose 3 more this year.
I said before the season we have no shot at Baylor and we would drop another game to Texas or Tennessee so I’m not jumping ship, I just hate when we lose games we shouldn’t.
First, I DON’T want Bob gone. Second, what options are out there? I’ll throw some names out there:
Philip Montgomery
Brent Venables
Chris Peterson
Justin Fuente
Since this is like the 16th time you’ve asked me–and you still keep putting words in my mouth since I don’t hate anyone, but sometimes you have to fire people you like–i’m not sure repeating it is going to do any good. But I’ve said many times I’d take Kyle Whittingham in a heartbeat, and I said that long before this season began, and that hasn’t changed. However, I would also give Justin Fuente a hard look. He’s young, has that fire I think we have been lacking, and being a former Sooner would mean a long-term hire. There are plenty of quality coaches out there besides those 2, not just college but NFL assistants that could do the job well. But my first 2 candidates listed would likely be 10 year guys. Regardless, I don’t fear the unknown. Unlike when Blake was hired, we have a competent AD who is going to hire a quality coach, not some crony. Everyone is replaceable.
My question to you is, do you still think there aren’t serious problems on thisthis coaching staff, or are you still in the “all’s well…nothing to see here” mode?
Thx. I shouldn’t assumed you hated them but it’s hard not to think that based on your comments for the last 6+ months. I’ve never seen you post another candidate or solution to replace Bob. However, the one you suggested is a very strong one indeed.
I’m not on the fire Bob bandwagon but since 08, Oklahoma has been an overrated program. To me, that’s what bothering all of us.
I think our wide recievers are terrible, besides shep of course. Go back and look at our wide reciever recruiting over the last 15 years and you will be surprised at how poorly we have recruited there… The best thing that Norvell did to beat us was to leave us totally depleted at the Wide Reciever position. Juco WR’s should be recruited for depth not to come in as first year players and be the 2nd and 3rd best wide recievers. The Offensive Line is karma for Bob bringing in his buddy to coach the Offensive Line, 2011, 2012 and 2013 offensive line recruiting was brutal!
Win or lose I am a SOONER!!! Do I like that we lost hell no. Can I control what the coaches do hell no. Did I like how the players played hell no. But do I love being a SOONER. ” HELL YES”
A few thoughts:
1- We can still get to double digit wins this year and that would be an improvement so all is not lost.
2- Bob gave his bro a pass after the TU game by saying spread offenses can’t be stopped. What’s the excuse this time?
3- O line needs a shakeup. Ty may be a great kid and have a high football IQ but he can’t hold down his assignment physically. And he’s not the only problem, I’m just calling out the leader of that group.
4- BM played ok but kept moving backward in the pocket because he couldn’t trust his line to let him move up or even laterally. That is a recipe for disaster.
5- LR has to give the offense an outlet. Start by rebalancing the run/pass ratio. Finally have a quick checkdown. TEs and RBs can’t block? No problem, they can catch and be scary in space.
Some good points. There were a least two occasions when the RB ran a very quick outlet route, but BM went down so fast the back didnt even have time to turn his head.
How do you honestly expect LR to do anything scheme wise with this crap OL? It’s embarrassing. I’m so sick of this. If it isn’t the OL, it’s the garbage defense. Same dumpster fire, different year.
Heyyyyyyyy, if it makes YOU feel better to burn the OU program do so. But remember, your perspective is not universal truth. Yes it sucks, my day is hard, I threatened to break my in-laws television and others things because of the rage. I, personally, cannot stand the burn-it-down mentality. Thats not what the guys in the locker room are going to do, and its not what the coaches are going to do.
What most disappointed me is that this is pretty much how the last two games went against Texas. Was afraid it would be the same this year, but was hoping not.
When reading the c.b.s Sports article they bring up a very important thing this may be the day Texas passes us the thing maybe people on this site may be afraid to say as Oklahoma football continues to decline Texas is ascending and it may be a long time before we beat Texas again.
Yeah they said the same thing at the end of both Barry Switzer and bud wilkinson era and look what happen you can’t just dismiss this idea it could happen I have seen it happen.
Come on Zack you have been a sooner long enough to see it can happen yes I do believe Texas is going to start to get very good over the next couple of years just look how fast Bob Stoops turn it around in his first couple of years.
Texas may soon pass us? They will be lucky to make a bowl game. We will not only make a bowl game but we will have a 10 win season. It’s not that close.
K state osu and tcu do not scare me at all. Clearly stoops has his work cut out for him but I’m chalking this game up to one of those head scratching losses. Some teams recover after a loss other falter. I’m hoping OU recovers.
Nick saban is losing an inexplicable game every year too by the way. Barry had what 4 straight seasons with 4 losses?
Barry was 10-5-1 vs Texas
In 16 games bob was 10-6, is now 10-7.
Let’s not act like bob is the worst coach. But let’s do because that’s when he’s at his best.
I am not either been watching Oklahoma since the 70’s so Ihave a good understanding of this program this program is in trouble and Texas is starting to ascend that’s a bad combination.
Lol. So if we would’ve won today like just about everybody on the planet predicted, would our program be in trouble and Texas on the ascent? Your comment is nonsense.
Nonsense just look at big game Bob’s record when was the last time he won a game that meant anything hell b.s it’s you and people like you who are the state of denial that think this program is still great.
This is UT’s “bottom out” year. They will get better next season. But I don’t buy that we won’t beat them again for a long time. I think we beat them next year.
The window may be closing on us if we don’t win next year when will beat then again Texas is only going to get better the next couple of year that why I say if we have a chance we need to get chip Kelly he would give us a chance to turn it around he could be another Pete Carroll coming back from the pro game.
Impressive what he has done there in 5 games. Three straight shut outs. Has basically same players as last years team plus some freshmen. Good coaching makes a difference.
I’m watching some other games and noticing something curious. It appears, at least to me, that the offensive lineman are blocking the defensive lineman with a mind toward disallowing them entry into their own backfield, thereby protecting the QB. What’s more, they also seem to be intent on creating lanes, which the runners can then utilize to matriculate the ball downfield. I’m very intrigued by this strategy, and wish to see more.
I said it last week, and I’m repeating it here. Michigan is for real people. Harbaugh is working a miracle in Ann Arbor. Folks better start paying attention.
New offense, new coordinator, patchwork OL, new trigger man, new wide outs…what we have seen in every game this year is what we saw today…this time they could not overcome it. The coaches have said it all year long…they still got a ways to go…I was just hoping it would be sooner rather than later…they need to keep building on this new philosophy with repetition and familiarity…they will be fine…just believe in the system (players and coaches)…keep building for the rest of the year. November is just around the corner..Boomer!
Tired of hearing that…especially coming off last year. Texas sucks hard and they PUMMELED OU. No, not on the scoreboard, but physically and emotionally. Boo to Bob Stoops.
Doesn’t really matter what we are tired of hearing. I hardly would call 24-7 a pummeling…what TCU did to them last week was a pummeling and what Baylor does to everyone….every week is a pummeling…but I understand your emotion toward the loss…
Bob stoops has now been beat by two former coordinators. While his brother Still hasn’t put together a good consistent defense. How many 8&4 seasons before seat gets warm in norman,or will he get another 10 years.
TCU may have looked great against texas, but they now look decidedly mediocre against KSU. In other news, WVU is getting abused by little brother, so maybe our big win last week wasn’t really worth as much as we originally thought. Baylor is clearly the class of the Big 12 at this point. It’s 2007 all over again.
the Texas YAC is really a key stat…..165 yards I think it was.
we get whooped by a QB that completes 8 passes.
Our OL was a joke.
worst Texas team in 50 years and they whip us like a child.
Yeah, every year their OL looks solid. And they seem to all be on the same page with an effectively designed and implemented game plan, and play together with great discipline. I wonder what that would be like is OU were to try something like that?
I mean I get that it’s maddening to lose games but to start burning it down because of one loss (when the torch bearers are the ones who expected 4-6 losses) is just ridiculous.
I am tired of the experiments where we hire the youngest person possible for OC. First Heupel and now Riley. It is a side of the ball where BS doesn’t coach. Hire somebody experienced.
Riley is a disaster. Successful offenses get the ball to the best players. Somehow we can’t figure that out. Mixon and Perine got 8 carries in the first half. That number should be closer to 20 than 10.
We don’t have a good win on our record. Tenn is average at best. WVU is losing to OSU. Tulsa and Akron… seriously?
I have not just been saying this starting today. We are running an offense because it is what the OC wants, not because it fits our talent. Good OCs fit their offense to the talent. Bad OCs fit the talent to their offense. We are a very talented running team that doesn’t run.
I know you’ve been talking like this for a while. This is just the first day I’ve decided to tell you point-blank that if you’re so miserable being a Sooner fan, there are other programs.
Obviously, a frazzled, knee jerk, fan. That happens when you lose to a 17.5 point underdog, seemingly just showing up and going through the motions. How can we not get up for this game? 3 years in a row. Smh.
LR is a fantastic young coordinator. I expected more balance than he has shown so far but he has shown a talent for in-game adjustments and has the trust of his players. One bad outing is meaningless in the scope of a career. If he can recruit we would be lucky to keep him for a while.
It is not one bad outing. It is the fact that we can’t run when we have Mixon and Perine. It is not just the OL. It is the system being installed. If we want to go to an “air raid” offense fine, but when you have talent you should use it and we aren;t.
We had similar problems with personnel when switching from an air raid to a read option. I agree we should run downhill more often but almost all the offensive problems are predicated by poor line play and that is not on LR. The line has given no indication they can run block. I get frustrated watching all the lateral running but the objective is to get our players into space and avoid mismatches along the line. If any of us were better than LR we would be D1 coordinators. We don’t have to like everything these coaches do but LR is a hot commodity among the millionaire coaches that know about such things.
When did we sell our soul? Mixon made a mistake as an 18 year old kid, paid for it like a person of character and integrity, and has seemingly become a better young man for it. I would rather OU be a .500 team with great mentors for coaches than a winning team who caref nothing for developing young men.
I believe is second chances. But I also believe in consequences. Joe Mixon should have been shown the door and he gets his second chance someplace else.
How would you feel if you were the girl he punched, breaking bones in her face? I know I would feel that I was less important than OU football.
Considering I am in the business of mentoring and leading young men I believe it was imperative for the male role models in Mixon’s life to guide him through that period and ensure the consequence was fair. Throwing him out of the program leaves him with no mentorship, is a permanent punishment to a temporary infraction, and could have crippled his opportunities for the rest of his life. The young lady who was hit suffered but the crime did not rob her of her future.
Mixon was charged with a misdemeanor, received a 12 month suspended sentence (essentially parole), 100 hrs community service, and a $1200 fine. Keep in mind the young lady who he hit initiated the physical confrontation. Losing his position on the team was sufficient considering the state also punished him.
He was punished by the state. An Alford plea does not preclude punishment. Pleas are entered to prevent costly trials by the state when evidence of guilt is present. At what point do you admit young people make immature decisions that should not haunt them their whole life? Size and status are irrelevant. The life skills, maturity, and decision making skills of a 220 lb 18 year old are the same as a 120 lb 18 year old. Your position would be the equivalent of losing your job because you entered a plea for a misdemeanor speeding ticket.
It is not a speeding ticket, lets make that very clear. He clearly hurt the young woman.
Yes, I would likely lose my job if I punched a woman in the face breaking bones.
An Alford plea doesn’t preclude punishment, but it does preclude taking responsibility. If I was the DA an Alford plea would have never been offered. He would have had to admit he was wrong.
I was in the military so I am very experienced in 18 year olds getting in trouble. No private in my command would have ever been treated as leniently as Joe Mixon was. Oh, you can’t play this year, but we will still pick up the tab for your education.
Considering I am still in the military I can assure you action against a soldier would be illegal if the state took up the charges. That is double jeopardy and not an option available to the chain of command. Whether assault or speeding, both are missemeanors under the law and refusing Alford pleas would lose an ADA their job rather quickly due to the cost of trials to the state. Also, a trial very well could have ended in a not guilty verdict considering the evidence Mixon was assaulted and responded. Punishment was called for, he was punished, this should no longer be a discussion.
It is not double jeopardy to discharge somebody. But I don’t think you understand the prohibitions of Double Jeopardy.
Just so you can firm up your argument, speeding is not a misdemeanor.
I also don’t think you understand what an Alford plea is.
ADAs don’t accept Alford pleas all the time. That doesn’t mean there isn’t a plea. It just means that the accused has to admit guilt during his plea.
And if he went to trial it wouldn’t shock me if Joe Mixon won, but that is because the jury would be made of OU fans. And running a football is more important than punching a woman, but I think it is a fight worth fighting.
I am saddened by your enabling of Joe Mixon. Being slapped by a woman might warrant a slap in return. It does not warrant punching her in the face with the force to break several bones.
1) A discharge must include a charge under UCMJ. Charges under UCMJ cannot be brought for the offense/ event in which civilian authorities also take action. The only option to the commander in this situation is a bar to reenlistment which must be lifted once the deficiency is overcome. As an instructor I teach military justice and discipline monthly and as retention NCO I have processed over 50 bars to reenlistment. I am exceptionally familiar with scenarios exactly the same as Mixon’s as it pertains to soldiers.
2) All criminal offenses are either misdemeanor or felony. Speeding is a misdemeanor.
3) Assuming corruption in a jury that does not exist is a sad conspiracy theory.
4) I clearly stated Mixon was wrong and should have been punished. Providing him the opportunity to overcome his mistake is not enabling. The crime was not premeditated and was not a heinous felony such as murder or rape.
5) We will not agree. I will, therefore, bow out of this discussion.
1. Double jeopardy is only precluded when the same sovereign charges a crime twice. The military and state are two different sovereigns. If the military thinks the punishment is inadequate, there is no constitutional bar to pursuing it.
2. Speeding is a violation, it is not a misdemeanor. It is not classified as a misdemeanor on your record. You are just wrong about this.
3. My assumption about Oklahoma juries might be cynical, but I have experienced them.
4. He should have been made to admit he was wrong and his scholarship taken away. Otherwise we just redshirted him.
If I could down vote this, I would. Riley called a ridiculously bad game Saturday. Do we have only three runs in the playbook: Up the middle left, up the middle right and the one that works, off tackle, that got called twice.
It’s just criminal what’s happening to Perine in this offense. He should explore a transfer in the off-season.
And how long does it take to figure out that a five-step drop can’t be protected? That the pocket should be moved?
There were a lot of issues Saturday. Lincoln Riley’s game plan was most assuredly one of them.
Just want to say, there’s a lot of disappointment throughout the fanbase after today. This thread is big enough for criticism. Let’s be respectful of the opinions of others without making appraisals of their commitment or loyalty to OUr boys. Thanks and Boomer Sooner.
I know its a broken record but running qbs kills us everytime… where is frank shannon?!?!? Dude was a beast for us two years ago and never got taken for rides like Alexander does time and time again. Oline was and rb blocking was pathetic at times to say the least and we got exposed for what we are as far as blocking Pass and running…. why does it seem like Darlington was standing there not blocking anybody most of the game? Got out coach and out played on both sides of the ball plain and simple..
I was hoping to wake up and realize yesterday’s game was only a nightmare. Lol. Anyways, clearly as die-hard Sooner fans – most of us, minus imposters-are enormously disappointed by yesterday’s debacle. I was busting guys balls on here all week that were saying this game scared them. I was clearly wrong. I just thought this team would be mentally ready every week. Wrong again. I didn’t think anybody was going to line up and run the ball on us. Wrong again. Over 300 yards! Our defensive formations and tackling went a long way towards allowing that absurd number. The most yards we’ve given up rushing to Texas since 19freaking50. Is it just me or does it seem like Samaje and/or Joe are usually on the sideline? We HAVE to implement a shovel, quick hit to te, RB or something to deter pressure because after 5 weeks it’s obvious, that’s a necessity. So, with that being said, I’m extremely disappointed but still optimistic that we can bounce back.
We have a best two more losses to go. We have no prayer at Baylor and probably lose to OSWho. Our defense is bit good. We don’t tackle well? We are constantly over pursuing on plays and generally aren’t a physical team. Typically we can score, but we cannot continue to be put in holes by our defense an get forced to play catch up. Our offensive line will not block well enough for us to be consistent on offense. When we do get things going we have a penalty to set us back. It’s the same Ol same Ol Sooners we have known for the better part of a decade. It won’t change. We will be consistently ok under Stoops but never again will we be great. He’s a fantastic coach; one of the best in the college game. But his message is worn out. Time for someone new. Look at what is happening in Ann Arbor to see what a simple new voice can do. A defense that was crap before is running on three straight shutouts. Same basic players, different voice and mentality.

Sucks!
BOOMER!!!
SOONER!!!
Worried about Texass DT disrupting things. Looking LR to get the running game going.
Shovel pass. Stop them in their tracks. The DE’s too.
Jordan- did we miss out on a couple of recruits last night? Seen something on the ticker about Thompson(?) and another player, a center I think.
Not sure. If you can give me names I’m happy to check tho.
Shurod Thompson and Jack Anderson.
I think Jack Anderson just committed to taco tech.
We no longer where recruiting Thompson they are full at the safety position jack Anderson would be a lost if he stays with Texas Tech.
https://twitter.com/john_shinn/status/652859989137031168
well danm, hopefully next man up can pick up the slack.
This would have been the perfect game to have both on the field … too bad, but BOOMER SOONER anyway!!!
This next hour is going to go by so slow.
Sooner Sports show on Fox SW now until kick-off.
Guys and girls did I miss the prediction thread?
yep, it’s about 4 stories down
My fave game of th year Tuck Fexas
BOOMERRRRRRRRR SOOONERRRRRRRRRRRRRR
I’m not saying that I’m drunk already. However, I can neither confirm nor deny that I have already started drinking.
hahaha, I can’t say that I blame you!
Neither can I … but I am ‘very happy’.
It is well past noon in Bermuda……it’s all good. Lol
confirmed JUST POPED A BUDLIGHT
what’s a POPE as it pertains to Bud Light?
The pope said it was ok?
“Bless This Bud Light” oh …. I’ll stop there. 🙂
That piss water gives me headaches!!!!
What about Jack?
I LOVE jack! drink it straight from the bottle!
That would be a mellow popped.
The music choices for some of these “hype” videos…
Watching the pre-game show, Dusty seems very calm. Must not have had his normal two gallons of double espressos…yet.
First thing I heard this morning, Dusty was getting razzed by some Texas fan with a bullhorn. He was fired up!
I prefer this for Baker Mayfield’s “hype” song.

Don’t worry, ladies and gents. When the games starts I’ll escape the madness that will ensue in this game thread.
Got ribs sliced beef beans sausage and ofcourse Budlight BOOOOMERRRRRRRRRR

Good one L
Ok so missed that prediction thread……here’s mine: OU 51 Texa$$: 23
I hope we score that much, but I cannot see OU going there today. Their D practices against a mobile QB all the time … I dunno. I’m too pumped up to think logically right now though.
30 MINS TELL GAME AND texsa STILL SUCKS
https://twitter.com/guerinemig/status/652866554573422592
Rest him bring in OBO Whats your score prediction Jordan
Rest up! I’d rather see him healthy for K-State than half-way for today.
Looks like Farniok may start at guard
Good.
Coach B was highly complimentary of the job Derek has done and thinks he has found his true position at Guard.
At Guard. Who knew?
There was some who downright made fun of the idea of a 6’9″ guard but it has turned out well. I sure didn’t predict he would be a better guard than tackle. Hat off to Coach B.
I know, right?
The word is he bends really well for a man his size.
I’m gonna be honest, I don’t know what it means for a OL to be a “waist bender”. Can you enlighten me?
Can’t help you with all the modern terminology. I think what they mean with Derek is he bends well in general, that could mean at the waist or the knees.
I guess you have to bend well if you are a foot taller than the DT/LB you are blocking!
In the Coaches Corner the other night he had high praise for the job he has done there.
Baker mayfield interview of koco pregame made me a fan.
Favorite movie he said was the Bourne trilogy, and then shooter right behind that.
Mentioned Brett Favre as one of the three people he would like to have dinner with.
Those are obvious pluses in my book.
My son became a Baker fan when he found out Baker was a gamer. My son also stated that he could beat Baker in Halo 3. LOL Gotta love the confidence of a 12 year old.
But could he beat him in DDR?
Don’t know what DDR is, sorry.
Dance dance revolution.
Haha! I didn’t know what DDR was either but I bet Baker could hold his own even against the most agile of 12 year olds.
Oh crap…..no chance. My son, like his dad, has no rhythm.
People upset. Screaming. Complaining. Telling the organization that they are inept. Threatening to stop giving money to the company. Calling on the phone to give them a piece of their mind.
Dish Network is as inept as Texas.
They’re probably waiting until tomorrow to unblock channel 5. They must have some Texas investors not wanting the game televised.
We called and got 80 dollars off our bill.
Ok gotta throw Frisbee with boomer se yall halftime BOOMERRRRRR
SOONER!

Case of shinier bock , Ribeye steaks grilling, sweet potato pie in the oven. I’m ready for a 65 to 13 type game. BOOMER
Isn’t Shiner Bock made in Texas? Just asking for a friend so that he can come and have a person conversation with you.
Yes it is made in Texas. But so was Mayfield. I hope baker has a big day.
A metaphor for Texas playing football.

W.T.F?
I hope Oregon gets beat by the fighting leaches today. They’re hosting bundage, mayden, and kelly today. Would be great for all 3 to realize that Oregon is falling off finally.
I’ll allow it.
Hmm… good to know. That gives me a dog in the fight. I’m not worried about Kelly so much but the others…
And yes, Oregon is falling off.
Personally, I hope Bundage takes a liking to the psychdelic uniforms.
I’m not high on bundage either but I know a lot of guys round here like him.
I think if more of those folks saw his interview with NewsOK a couple of months ago they might feel differently.
The number of stars don’t mean squat if the kid doesn’t have a good head on his shoulders.
Are you saying we should recruit character!?
Let me just say, go to NewsOK and in the search bar type in his name. There is a video interview of him. You’ll see what I mean.
Can we assume that you are not a Bundage fan, EasTex? LOL. I am not a fan of his attitude myself.
Same here, I no like.
15 minutes until kick off. Plenty of time for two more beers…
https://youtu.be/BGHfXjNhyrY
Desmond expects Texas to play “expired.”
Tired or dead?
He will actually be right once, just not on purpose.
and they continue to focus on texas for the pre-game hype … humiliating behavior and they don’t even see it.
It’s a story for them.
Did he pick Texas this week?
Walking dead……fexas
Now that’d be a horror.
Here we go GENTS, and ladies 🙂
BOOOOOOMER!!!
https://youtu.be/YpMdIHgDmCA
I burned the Chili 🙁
People have died for less.
Tough luck man. Did you learn to cook chili in Texas or what?
I wasn’t aware that was even possible! 😉
Honestly, its hard to not burn the bottom. Just don’t scrap the pot too hard.
I could see that, possibly, but I still have never had that happen with chili….now potato soup, now that shit’ll stick!! lol Low and slow.
I think the tomato is what burns. If you make real chili (no tomato) then its probably hard to burn. My wife likes the tomato though…
I use canned tomatoes, and canned beans. .. Lots of juice probably keeps it from burning.
If it has beans cooked in it, it ain’t chili. 🙁
lol! I likes me some beans. I go with Grass-fed beef, onions, peppers, kidney, black and pinto beans, canned tomatoes, and BEER. I make my own seasoning with chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, pepper, garlic, and sometimes some cilantro. 🙂
My wife says the same thing, but me, I like beans in MY chili.
I am allergic to onions, so we substitute jalapenos for onions in our chili.
No onions in chili? Is that possible? lol Sorry to hear of the allergy. Onions are wonderful!
I know. I did not develop this allergy until I turned 18, and it took 7 years to figure what was putting me in the hospital. No test for onion allergies…
wow.
I’m witchu.
I was like…ZAH?…when I read that.
Kind of like catching the bacon on fire in oven! I baked some more bacon the other night, and kept thinking about that… Like, how? I was watching closer though! haha
BLASPHEMER!!!
Just add a beer, or three. (1 to the chili, and 3 to yourself.)
I just had to dump a pot that I burned. I told my wife as I left the house “don’t let it burn”. She did.
Anyone think its funny that Jon burning the chili is already one of the most replied to comments on the thread?
Im pretty sure that somehow my burned chili is the reason for this whole day 🙁
Goodbye.
Hold on…I’ll get the door on the way out. 🙂
Yeah, my pc is not near the TV. So, i’ll be off and on as I can ….
I have my laptop in front of my big screen.
cheers L
BOOOM UHHH!!!! SOOOOOON UHHHH!!!
boooooomahhhhhhhhhhhhhh
SOOOOOOOOOOOONAHH!!!
Ahh, too bad, McShay’s mic is messed up. No loss there.
I listen to Toby anyway. No TV volume
Sounds like it looks like lots and lots of crimson on the tejas side! HOME GAME! LETS. GO. SOONERS!
BOOMER !!!!!!!!
SOONER!!!!
Come on Ross, take it to the HOUSE!
I WRITE IN ALL CAPS TO SHOW MY EXICTEMENT!!!!! I’M. FREAKING. OUT!!!!
Good call, by both LR and ref!
PI first play. Love it
Gonna go after Bonny a lot, just like Tulsa went after PJ.
Looks like the shorthorns are going to blitz often
Man! Baxter had some room there!
Gotta catch it before you run it Bax!
Relax guys… They are a little amped up
Not sure if that was designed. If not, he should not have taken off so fast.
Yup, needs to be more patient, but that looked like it was the set play. Swing pass was open though.
Swing pass was uncovered.
Sloppy playing due to being too hyped
P.L. Lindley in. No Bond
Esco posted earlier that Bond was out. Not suited, and in a boot.
UGH!
Ah, didn’t see!
Good job D!!!!
Great field position, now let’s take advantage of that!
Here we go o
Gonna start out with a couple of runs on this drive I’m thinking…
Great defense! Players just need to settle down and it’s all gonna be good.
Might run the ball this possession
Sometimes a fair catch is a good play. Don’t let it bounce!!
But fwiw Baxter takes it to the house if he catches that bubble screen.
Yea, that was a big play set up perfectly!
Nice start. Now let’s go score.
I love these Texas kickers only 33 yard punt keep it up Texas.
Their special teams is SOOO bad!!
I was looking for the mis-snap there.
They’re saving that play
Hillarious jofield.
UGH!
Don’t like trick plays when we should be able to just line up and pound the ball.
Not this early for sure.
We don’t need trick plays
Come on! Geez
Perine just drug 3 guys for 3 extra yards. Nice. Eventually they will get tired of getting hit.
First play run, 7 yards. Next two, trick play 3 yard loss, Sack 3 yard loss. RUN.
-1 yard total offense after two possessions. Not the fast start we need……Yes, I am the king of understatements.
Not if we refuse to hit them.
Shooting ourselves. Just line up and hit em in the mouth guys.
When should we start trying to run the ball. I hate this offense for this personnel.
That was a totally wasted possession. You cannot waste possessions in this game.
Riley not calling a very good game. Not impressed.
It’s the 2nd drive man.. Give it time.
1st series was good. That swing pass would have got at least 20 and put us into a rhythm. Need a big play to get LR rolling…
Sloppy. We’ll get it together but so far… sloppy.
Yeah, the players are too amp’d up. That dropped pass is a sign of nerves …
Someone answer me this question.. Why in the name of all things good and holy was a reverse necessary right there!?
We were thinking “What would Josh do??”
I don’t know why Perine just didn’t keep the ball
He couldn’t see the break down behind him.
Well, it was a reverse pass, but they got into backfield, and andrews was covered down the field. Not necessarily agreeing with the call, but if it would have worked, then Damn.
Darlington just let his man right through the line
Come on team very poor offensive start looks a little like 2013.
Except we don’t look soft in the middle like in 2013 (defensively)
Ty is getting his ass handed to him.
Run to set up the pass! Run to set up the pass! Gadgets plays can be nice to take advantage of hyped up players but let’s get some success first at running the rock so they sell out to stop the run.
Reverse would have worked if the O-line hadn’t completely missed their man
You have to keep outside contain there.
I’m gonna refrain from the negativity. I figured we were due for a slow start. That’s why in the prediction thread yesterday I said we need to have the game put away by halftime. Since it only took tcu 12 minutes to bury Texas last week.
Trick play early vs an amped defense is a good call but you still have to block.. Credit txass for stayin home
Swoopes sighting!
I hate to see anyone get hurt. I think he had the wind knocked out of him.
Pick 6 time???
Now, let’s see what happens. This offense has been more geared from Heard, so this could be interesting.
Kansas just tied it up with a TD vs Baylor. Kansas TDs should be worth triple points.
Captain obvious here, but we are going to have to stop those darn 5 yard running plays for much shorter to no gain.
15 yards for holding?
Zanchez kills us again and this kid thinks he can go pro???
COME ON D! We need a stop right here!
Striker time?
Heard is faster than the defense thinks he is. Bad angles.
Wow, our defense looks bad.
No outside contain. Everyone going with the fake. ARGH!
That was Striker on that one.
DE and OLB both jammed inside though.
Come on, we need to be ready for that.
They’re executing early, and OU is not … very simple.
Can you freaking tackle???
I’m on a time delay on the Internet… Could y’all give me a couple minutes before you post… Thanks… Texas still sucks
No
No
Just wait til breaks before you read the “new comments.”
This isnt your personal site lol
Really? I swore this was like Facebook.. /s
My bad…. /s guess I forgot that for y’all
Fire Mike Stoops.
This is lame defense.
Its okay, Really. Its becoming kind of fun watching Tejas fans get amped up, only to be heartbroken, again. WE sure have to play better though, Damn.
This team better wake up it’s 2013 very poor start.
brutal start for OU.
better get these kids focused in a hurry or this might be a long day.
Stoops isn’t out there missing 5 tackles
This is a true statement!
Mike Stoops defenses always do this.
No kidding. I’m sure he was yelling as much as we were. Why is it when we play the freaking shorthorns our entire D seems to forget how to tackle?
not sealing the edge and letting people run outside of them could be considered a Mike Stoops identity, over the last few years.
2013 redux.
Ouch so far we are playing with no fire
This is not starting good!
Better get serious Sooners! Or this will be 2013 all over again.
OU came out flat looks like it will be a game
totally agree … flat due to either ‘don’t care’ or they’re too amp’d up to execute their assignments.
Why f flat? This team hasn’t done anything to merit being flat! What the F?
“haven’t done anything” sounds like flat to me ….
You really would think that someone on our Team would actually like to HIT texasss!
Man, this gets old…
Stop letting them get outside!!!! Pop warner coaches teach this. They look slow. Mike has them sitting back and waiting for UT to do what ever they want. Exactly what I was worried about.
Norvell knows mikey more than mikey knows norvell … so far.
Looks like Dominique was trying not to get a penalty and forgot to make the tackle.
Its been awhile since we had DB’s who could hit like Strait
missed tackles, dropped passes, poor OL play, can’t stop the running QB….jeez.
Welp…..this quarter has been decidedly uninspiring so far
Relax fellas. They threw everything but th kitchen sink at uz on that drive. We juz need to settle down an play ball now
So far, the shorthorns have 73 yards of offense and OU has 0
SERIOUSLY?
Nice. What else could go wrong
effing sh*t
wow
down
It was a fumble
Didn’t even look all that secure as he was running with it.
Replay could save us on that one…. No?
Nope, it’s a fumble
I think he’s down. Barely.
That sucks…. But I thought it was out before he was down.
Certainly a heads up play by that defender. Going backwards? jeez.
it’s a fumble
No way that’s overturned
the pass that mead dropped might well have been a td….looked wide open
Baxter was the guy that dropped it. But yeah, it would have been a big gainer.
That’s right….I stand corrected
WTF?!?!?!
Really??
Hopefully the Oklahoma Sucks chant gets this team fired up.
I don’t know why, but our guys didn’t get the message that the record matters not. Time for the defense to show up
Texas is fired Up!!!
I said they would come to play. Our D better get their heads out of their backsides.
Embarrassingly bad start for OU.
I have been trying to tell everyone that this was going to be a game.
Every game this year we have been challenged and been successful. We will continue that trend.
Simmer down now fellas, simmer down. We’ll get this game on our side. Just a matter of time.
Good grief, you gotta be kidding me
C’mon Defense, let’s do this!
Wow………….just wow
Running QBS kill us everytime
Smh
Why is Heard looking like an All American?
rhetorical?
Well their O line came to play.
Texas Oline has set the tone of this game. We must win the battle at the LOS!
Did MS prepare for this?
Lindley is waiting to get blocked
If we lose this game this will be the worst lost of the Bob stoops era it will be hard to forgive stoops for this.
Dude, bob averages just over one WTF? loss a year. This could be it, but it’s still early and I believe our boys know how to come from behind and win.
Ball security, stupid penalties, no spy on Heard and can’t tackle yet.
And horrific defense.
CALL THE DANG HOLDING ON THE EDGE!
I saw that too
The shorthorns always get the calls in this game. ARGH!
I noticed that too…alot of missed calls
Is it just me or are they holding like crazy…Those perimeters..
I just said that!!
Got to tackle better
“Got to tackle.”
There fixed it for you.
Texas fired up….wish I could say the same for our guys
Smoke break
Doobs right?
I guess holding is no longer a penalty unless you’re a defensive player.
I think the guys took the “Texas is not a bad team” rhetoric to the exteeme and now are scared to play
How can you call timeout coming out of a timeout?
Embarrassing.
That’s what OU has been so far.
It happens. Sometimes you wait to see what package they bring out, and adjust.
Nice timeout, did a lot of good.
We aren’t ready to play today we use a timeout coming on a timeout.
This sucks!
Where was the late hit on the OL.
They don’t call that on them in this game.
Are these refs from Austin?
Sure glad we wasted a timeout to prep for that play
Right!
We have no answer for this guy
wow punch us in the mouth
Mike being Mike.
Balls out!
fumble
This is stupid.
its out
But will they overturn it?
exactly
HE FUMBLED!!
Touchback?
Ball is out but they won’t reverse the call. At best they will put the ball at the one foot line for Texas.
Fumble!
touchback.
Texass recovered in end zone though anyway, so TD.
texas recovered for a TD anyway. Does not matter
doesn’t matter they recovered
Our guys are lost, no focus at all, not hustle. Block this kick?
This blows chunks.
Ball was out. Refs wrong. That said, they recovered the fumble in the end zone anyways
BS and why did the OU player give up?
Texas is belldozing us.
It’s still a long game. Texas will make mistakes. Question is if we can capitalize.
Way too early. I see us coming back again and winning.
114 yards of offense to none with a turnover. Cannot win playing like this. Better get your troops to wake up Bob!
What is the point of a replay where if the decide it is a Texas fumble it is still a Texas TD?
Embarrassingly bad start gets even worse.
The worst thing about the Stoops sometimes is their arrogance cause their teams seem to adopt that attitude and sometimes think showing up is enough to win
After last season you’d think that that wouldn’t be an issue!
At this rate we’re gonna have a hard time if we’re expecting their special teams to screw up.
If we lose this game Bob Stoops should be on the hot seat and coaching for his job the rest of the season.
get real!
Being consistently 4th in a 10 team Big XII is not good enough.
Jumping the gun aren’t we? I mean come on one quarter get real man!
I’d like to see mixon on kickoff return.
Come on now, time to get on Samaje’s back!
Must have a 1st down here.
Ty darlington is getting his ass whooped
Said the same thing earlier.
Great play call!
Hands
Texas is blitzing almost every play
Yet again, Riley not punishing a team for blitzing.
That sack was all mayfield, bad presnap read
Did Texas sign a bunch of All Americans this week?
Horrible start! And a freaking timeout…. ARGH
Getting beyond ridiculous.
If it’s still like this in the 3rd quarter, then yes, I will agree with you then.
Panic time again…
I don’t think we could look much worse so far
This team is totally disorganized.
Mayfield looks awful.
Defensive holding not called.
Mixon was open in the flat.
Hard to do when they are blitzing left and right. He’s dumping to his safe choice…not good
The calls!! That was completely holding !
I mean, Baker had to check down there, but Mixon was much more wide open than Shep. Come on SOONERS!
Mayfield is rattled. He’s scared of getting hit by the blitz and not playing loose
They’re getting in our backfield …major BAD sign.
We still haven’t learned hot routes.
Sooners doing everything they can to save Charlie’s job.
Ty needs to be replaced
Please.
Watch the center battle and you will see he is getting whooped
No I literally mean please. I want dsrlington holding a damn clipboard.
Haha my bad Zack
Riley thoroughly getting out coached.
All the OU coaches are.
Second week in a row. Riley can’t coach against blitzing defenses and opposing coaches have figured that out.
Bob Stoops has chosen an OC who runs an offense not suited to our players. It makes me wonder about Bob Stoops.
turnover coming
When teams blitz, it is up to qb to make the read and beat it. Bell could not in 2013, mayfield no better thus far. They will keep blitzing until he burns them
Mayfield can’t trust the line so that he can take advantage of it
How about that Siebert though! Come on D!! Lets get some hits! (and tackles)
Atrocious blocking… As usual
Embarrassing
We are just getting gashed right up the middle.
Getting dominated at the point of attack
It doesn’t look like we have 1 stinkin defender that wants to hit a shortwhorn in the mouth!
Norvell knows how to attack mikey, it’s just that simple.
I call shenanigans on that. Our players havent’ been in bad position yet, they just need to freaking get mad and hit somebody.
I call shenanigans to your shenanigans …. a well-executed game plan ALWAYS makes the other team look bad.
Every team this year has seemed to know how to attack mikey, it isn’t that hard.
It’s worse when mikey’s attacker actually practiced against him year after year at OU.
Change the D line.
Maybe Lampkin wants to hit someone…
This is the OU team we know and love under Stoops. Underperforming. Fumbles, screwups,
no discipline. Run Perine, all day long.
At least the shorthorn o lineman can tackle heard for us.
Next offensive series if we run a pass play Riley should be fired on the spot.
I think throwing behind the blitz will work. Problem is the blitzes are coming late and we aren’t picking them up.
We need to go with 4 down lineman to attack their runs.
Texas can’t pass and you still let them run on us. Hahahahaha
Man texas doesn’t even throw, they shouldnt be able to run like that
Well, who here had Texas up 14-0 after the 1q??
15 yards offense in the whole first quarter. Impressive.
Alright, now that that forgettable quarter is behind us…. Final score, Sooners 41 tejas 20
Load the run and dare them to throw simple enough.
You all have seen OU being challenged all year and they have come out as a winner. Akron and Tennessee in the first half, Tulsa and WV in the second. Have some faith in your team.
Boomer freakin Sooner!
I have faith in them. They are just playing like crap right now.
Love our sooners. But starting slow in every game will catch up with us
We are gun shy because of 13 and 14…
Offense has got to adjust to the corner blitz.
I think we should be in a true 4 man front for this game. Lots of middle stunts and run blitzes.
Need to start dinking and dunking…Where is Andrews? Need to role Mayfield away from the inside rush, have a back on the blitzing cb and hit some short passes or run for yardage.
Didn’t you mean to say, “drinking and drunking”? That’s my solution to handling the stress no matter the outcome … 🙂
Loto football left!
Mobile QBs have given OU fits for years now.
And what’s crazy is there is film where teams have beat this team and we don’t know how to use it.
No reason to give up contain on every play with our OLB/DE. Should run a spy.
This first quarter was a total disgrace buy this team not ready to play against your biggest rival.
Coach showed film of 2013. It’s all on 18-22 year olds.
The problem is this becoming a recurring thing in recent years under big game Bob no excuses in my book this could be stoops worst coaching job for any game that I can remember.
So far. But how much is on the players?
They are both responsible in my book.
Screens to beat the blitz!
We’ve been in this position before. Not worried.
Apparently they thought it was a training film.
I wish we would throw some screens
Go neal!
That was lucky, why are we passing on first down?
Way to kill what little momentum you have.
Okay, if St. John is really giving the play away with his feet placement every time, then take him out. WE can’t have that…
Our Tackle has a tell, hope we get that fixed.
When did our talent become wide receivers instead of running backs?
Riley should be left in Dallas.
Way to give up. That was freaking terrible.
This oline sucks
They sure are letting free runners into the backfield quickly. UGH!
Like a matador
Very disappointed in BB for the first time.
Yeah seems they are not well prepared to play
LR not calling the right plays.
Hard to call when oline is really bad
Mayfield has to throw the ball. Quick passes
Hard to throw when someone is immediately in your face
That’s why I said quick passes.
We shouldn’t be trying to throw, at least not every down.
Please run 5 running plays in a row and see what happens.
if this keeps up they’ll have to take my gun from me. WTF is this team doing? they don’t even want to be there.
Mayfield has no time to throw
Know how you fix that, hand the ball off.
I agree
O-line is where the game starts. Getting whipped.
Haven’t we had success running, so why have we stopped.
Mayfield has literally no time to throw the ball!
Bring back the wishbone!
Bring back last year o line
Yes, our o-line is not very good. I do not think it is a matter of gelling either, they are just not very good.
In the words of the immortal howard Schnellenberger, “They brought me in, not to run the wishbone.” (Said in a gruff, almost percepible drunken tone)
LOL! Really just saying that because we have two stud RB’s and we are NOT running.
Yup, Perine, Mixon and Flowers, would be pretty beastly.
I know, but back in the day, sports radio around here wore that sound bite out, and my little sister at the time did a hilarious job of impersonating it. Everytime someone says something about OU and the bone, i can’t help but say it.
LOL! Gotcha.
Been saying it all season….. Our Oline is simply not very good…. That being said this team has heart and grit and I expect them to fight!
Absolutely the worst O line I can remember OU fielding. They have been an embarassment.
A draw play would be nice against that blitz.
Where’s the shovel?
Exactly!
Texas disguises blitzes well (see baylor game last year), they delay botzes too. Its on mayfield now to read and throw hot
they haven’t disguised them that well, I know many of us here have seen them coming…
But you’re right, Mayfield has to find the right read, and quickly.
This is ridiculous. Hopefully the defense doesn’t give up since the offense is a joke today.
Our defense is looking for the little flags on the sides of Texsa pants.
I think the D is used to this from the O. They won’t give. In fact, I expect them to get better, and begin making their own plays.
who got hurt? I had to run back in my office to vent my frustration
Some whorn
Their DLineman
Our two most talented offensive playres or Perine and Mixon and we willingly take them out of the game.
Mixon needs to be in almost every play. In backfield or out wide…either way.
Good job D!
Good defensive stand.
A defensive line sighting! That’s a relief
Lets turn it around right here.
Okay, time to open the flood gates on offense.
Texas looks like their trying to run the clock out…lol.
Get ready for a TD, see it coming.
Looks like D has to carry the game again
I agree … for now. We simply have to score with the O … we HAVE TO …. if we’re gonna win. The D is our only hope right now to keep OU in the game.
Not so fast I say. But need to keep hitting the swing passes to Mixon or Brooks.
Agreed they can make some adjustments and turn this around. So far the O has pulled some sort of disappearing act
Where are the adjustments to the Tass d?
I would like to see a pump and go to Westbrook here on first down
That would be nice but can we protect mayfield long enough to do that
You are the only person who wants that to be the play call.
This is a bad time to say since we are in the game but who else thinks it’s cute that Jay Norvell is using a rendition of the “Belldozer” lol
We really needed a score on that first series. We breathed hope into them.
Quick screen here on 2nd down please
No excuse for Brooks to ever be taking handoffs when we have Joe Mixon. None.
So right when you said that he got that nice gain huh? lol. But I’m with ya, Mixon might have scored there..
One run doesn’t matter. Mixon is better than Brooks by leaps and bounds. It’s not close.
Agreed.
Just thought it was funny he had one nice run, right when you said that. 🙂
There ya go!
Go, Joe, go!
St. John getting beat like a redheaded stepchild.
He’s definitely struggling.
He’s limping too. If he’s hurt sit him.
Good catch. I hadn’t noticed until you pointed that out. That’s not gonna help him keep up with those athletic LBs and DEs.
And showing the play, every play, with his foot placement.
He just isn’t quick enough to do anything else.
Big time mistakes
Wow I hope Bedenbaugh mentions these little tweeks to St. John at Halftime
All right, Brooks!
We’re battling now. Let’s go.
At least we know Baker won’t quit, just like on that draw play.
Let’s go.
Orlando Brown is FIRED UP! You see him yelling at the other guys! I LOVE IT!
We need to run behind him a few times.
TAKE THE FIGHT TO THEM BABY!! let’s finish this!
Just have faith.
Second d lineman for ut hurt this game
Sorry, I would rather have Ross than Brooks.
Damn, Baker!
St John’s foot placement is 100% accurate….that has to be addressed! Why hasn’t it been addressed before!
I just don’t think he has the feet to disguise his steps.
O looking better. Just gotta finish and protect the ball
Dang, Mixon would have scored there.
Do it three more times and he will
Someone needs to explain to Mayfield that he is not a running back. Give the ball to Perine and Mixon. If pressured in the pocket get rid of the ball. Don’t take the sack.
D line is depleted keep running
Having RBs block for RBs is a surefire loser. Duno why we keep doing it.
Why throw??????
Keep ’em honest.
I don’t want honest, I want touchdowns.
We have to have 6 right here
WOW! UNFREAKINGREAL!
Great running drive and we ruin it by throwing the ball.
Well the WR should have caught that. Need someone to step up at the WR position.
We run the ball four times we get a TD. That is all that matters.
DeDe, we HAVE to HAVE that catch.
Would also help create a tough minded O line, IMO.
Gee. How’d I know that we’d end up with a FG once we got inside the 10?
Well it’s better than no points..
Why not run the read left again?
Needed a TD. They do not use Andrews very well.
At least we are adjusting to their aggressive defense
Gotta be kidding me
Maybe he came open after the play was basically over, but did anyone else see Andrews wide open underneath?
I think Baker is not going thru progression thus far… Probably too scared to take the time. But yes, he has missed several open receivers..
I’m actually pretty certain Andrews is suspended for being an obvious mismatch.
Need a 3 and out or a turnover.
Pick six anyone?
Yes please!
Warning: I am going to complain bitterly from Cali… if we do not win this game.
I will stop watching OU for the rest of the season if we lose today.
Can we please get Magawdimgay’s mug off the screen? I’ve never bought a Lincoln and I sure as hell won’t now.
Alot of promise with that drive but disappointed with the drops. I’ll stick around for this…win or lose
Everyone decided to bring their suck today… Except Seibert. This is the worst oline I’ve ever seen at OU.
If baker Mayfield gives the ball to mix on on that third down instead of keeping it for the first down we have 7 points not 3.
I said the same thing
Make a play, D!
Two passes in the end zone right through the receivers hands. Can’t have that.
Uh oh
OH CRAP!
Let’s go D.
oh no, injury shoulder
Receiver falls down on TD pass. Yeah, that’s not what you want.
Maybe this gets the team fired up?!? Hope thomas is okay..
hope it isn’t a broken collarbone
That freaking sucks big time. GET FIRED UP D! HIT SOMEONE HARD!
Just got the wind knocked out.. He’s fine.. I hope
He was holding his arm like he dislocated his shoulder.
Shoulder it looked like.
Shoulder
That. Sucks.
So shouldn’t he be ejected?
Not targeting so he stays unfortunately.
Still pretty egregious
I believe they should amend that rule to where if the targeting actually results in an injury, the perp should be ejected IF the target can no longer play in the game..
Also, that one was especially egregious since it was a blindside hit.
I’ve said that for years.
That’s what I thought. If there was deliberate effort to inflict injury or something like that
I think it should be an ejection if after the play.
That was purely malicious. He should be kicked out.
Marcus Green is actually fairly decent… I’d like to see them try
That hurts our D.
Block that kick!
Hey refs, can we get some of these holds called, please?
Holdng? Is that against the rules?
I just have a feeling we’re going to grind this game out and get the W.
I don’t want to grind out a win against a 1-4 Texass. I want to blow them the f out.
Agreed. But a win against our biggest rival is better than no win.
Yeah, don’t get me wrong, I’ll take what we can get. But at this point I’m pissed as hell.
A win is a win in this game. But that’d be nice (to avoid a grinder.)
Thank you!! Let’s go boys
I’m thinking this game might really tilt in our favor very soon. It seems like Texass is one of those teams that comes out hitting hard, but just doesnt have the fire power to finish, and they will start getting pounded off the ball soon. Looks like the D is already taking over their Oline. I hope.
And of course, they are a little more fired up for this game, so just taking a smidge longer…
At 1-4 why should they be more fired up? If they are it is bad coaching on our part?
Its OU-Texas man. Just the way it is sometimes. This is ALL texass has left to play for. Of course they have a little more juice, at first.
human nature to overlook a 1-4 team…regardless if it’s Texas or not
Mainly because they have nothing to lose and can yhrow caution to the wind.
Starting to let their emotions get in the way.
Need to get 7 here and keep Texas off the board on the first drive of the 2nd half.
Def need 7 here.
yeah i feel that way too. and our team shown fight in the Tennessee game.
Maybe we’ve weathered the storm and our boys start to assert themselves. A TD here shifts this game.
That was on Mayfield.
STOP THE GD PASSING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Unreal
Mayfield needs to toss the ball!! christ, move around in the pocket
Yeah, the pocket passing play calls need to stop. The ut defenders are collapsing the pocket too quickly from all sides.
They will break the sack record this game
Are they going to ty to get St John to stop revealing whether it’s run or pass with his right foot? Or is that just how it has to be?
I was wondering why the abc crew went out of their way to point that out…Is that normal?
I’m sure our team knows this. Must be the only way he can get (close) to being in position, and he’s the best we got. Whats that say about our Oline?
No. But why wouldnt the coaches have addressed it?
IDK…Because they are not watching TV?
Mayfield is just holding on to the ball and taking sack after sack.
That’s definitely not the case. The line is god awful
Sure didn’t need a punt there. Come on OOOOOFFFFENNNSSSEEE!!!
That was beyond ugly
Great field position wasted.
Suck.
What a punt! Siebert is getting better with each game it seems.!
Nice punt!… Lets get that touchback!
Safety.
That’s right. Long day
Our Offensive Coordinator needs to figure out that we are a running team and having a pass play on 2/3 of the play calls is monumentally stupid.
Pathetic
I dont care if Darlington is the best student in OU history, he’s really bad.Especially for a senior
Dude, they’re just getting outplayed … the entire OL is not getting it done 1st half.
Need a game changing play by defense now.
Not going to happen. UT will run Gray for the remainder…and why not? they are getting yards
Are we going to blitz? At all? Like….in this game?
We need to take advantage of first down to throw the ball. Lets chance of pressure.
See Texas runs the ball twice and gets a short third down
Passing in the pocket is clearly not the best choice here
For the love of all things crimson. We are going to have to change our game plan at half time.
there was motion in the ut Oline on that first down run.
Unless we somehow take the lead at some point in the game, I don’t see Texas throwing the ball again.
as long as they can run like they are and bottle up our passing then yeah, it’s best they just keep running.
Why would they? They’re pretty much running at will.
I can’t believe they let them get that first down deep in there side of the field.
That wasn’t a shorthorn finishing the block, the whistle blew and he kept going.
thomas back in there. maybe just a stinger
no passing at all, just running and we still can;t stop them
they can’t stop us either but we are too stupid to call 5 run plays in a row.
Riley has to be cute and validate his “Air Raid” offense when it doesn’t fit our personnel.
Seriously, we KNOW it’s going to be a run. Can we get a stop please?
Well that was pitiful.
when was the last time Texas has thrown a pass?
First quarter.
Why should they, if they don’t need to
And we are still playing back.
30 rushes… 5 passes
And handing it to us
So…no personal foul on the shove by uterus player?
Let the second half be better please.
Texas looks like they are just trying to hang on for the win. That will backfire on them.
They’ve looked like that ever since they went up 14-0. I don’t think they’ve thrown a pass since
That’s three dreadful first halves out of six games played. So can I be optimistic and say we’re batting.500?
If we end up losing this game, OU can forget getting a dime (football wise) from me again.
I’m pretty disappointed in Baker to this point. He’s got to get rid of the ball and quit taking sacks.
There are no safety valves for him to dump it to…
That’s a problem LR has to fix
You don’t need safety valves when you hand the ball off. Mixon and Perine have run the ball 8 times combined.
That’s on Riley. He has a baller TE he doesn’t want on the field for some reason and refuses to throw screens to his RBs.
I am pretty disappointed in the O-line for sucking and coaching staff for continuing to go back in the pocket.
Mike Stoops calling a terrible game. Riley calling a terrible game. Offensive line sucks so bad. Defensive line getting no push. Receivers dropping passes. Not a recipe for success.
Not looking good Rainy, not looking good at all.
Our FG kicker is still good!
I don’t care if we win our not.
Bob Stoops needs to answer for this offense. We actively try not to get the ball to our best players.
No blocking though.
All you have to do is hand the ball off to them and run block. It is not difficult.
Our O-line sucks. Period. I’m sick of hearing about Bill the architect. Stoops is too dang loyal to Darlington. I love the kid – he’s a great ambassador for the university. But he has the blocking ability of a wet rag.
And people (including this site to be honest) kept feeding us the lie that our recruits would be solid once coached up.
We heard they had trouble ‘meshing”. I guess by meshing they meant, you know, blocking!
Perine and Mixon have 4 carries a piece. Somebody on the coaching staff needs a talking to.
There are things you can do on offense when you can’t stop the pass rush. I vote that we do those things.
I vote that we stop the damn pass rush instead.
If you look at the Cal game, Texas respected their qb and didn’t blitz as much and when they did they got burned. Cal’s O line is also no bueno. Clearly after seeing film, not the same respect for Mayfield
OU 24 -14.
I like your thinking!
Good heavens let’s hope.
They ran the ball 31 times to 5 passes. We needed to score 7 on that long drive. Next half we need to stop the 3rd down conversions.
Hope OU can find some fire and fight to knock down UT in the second half. Obviously not playing like a top 25 team right now.
let UT rush, just run bubble screens or passes in flat but get out of the pocket.
That will help the run game. I’m lost as to why Perine wasn’t in the game while we were in the redzone.
It doesn’t appear Riley knows just how to use his weapons most effectively yet.
than he shouldn’t be the OC. It isn’t rocket science. A good OC tries to fit his offense to his players. A bad OC tries to fit his players to his offense.
Or take on the blitzer. Brooks ran right pass a blitzer to run a short route and Mayfield went down before Brooks could even turn his head back.
defense doing better, but we have to find some answers with our o-line. BOOMER!
Can we get a roll out, maybe a screen?
I think we’ll come back. Gonna be another close finish. I’ll need another aspirin.
I think people are cluing in on Mayfield – put early pressure on him and block out his escape routes, and he goes down.
I don’t know that this is the plan. I think is more of this OL doesn’t know anything about picking up pressure and they’re breaking thru the middle and on the right side.
Saw one guy go right by Ty Darlington and straight at Baker. Got to fix that.
https://longchaps2.files.wordpress.com/2015/07/captain-obvious3.jpg
Sorry, couldn’t resist.
I think I know what play you’re talking about and that was just a poor play by darlington. He looked right way too long to see if he needed to help nila. Meanwhile the DL came right where darlington should have been.
They are doing a great job of playing their lanes and waiting till BM tries to escape the pocket, and then they swarm.
I’m truly amazed that we’ve come out uninterested 3 years in a row. Can’t blame heupel this year.
Can we still blame Norvell?
No panic here have a beer we shall make ajustments cheersss and BOOMERRRRRRRR
Thanks to my Skyy friend, no panic here either. Sedation works best in situations like these … my heart issues won’t let me watch OU games sober.
yes passes you a shot of jack
I had to give up Jack about a year ago. It’s too hard on my system … I love bourbon though, so it was tough. Vodka is the true choice of alcoholics everywhere! 🙂
Same as Tennessee game. Offense needs to execute. They’ll get it together in second half.
If we don’t come back to win this game I hope 25 thousand fans don’t show up for are next game that’s the only way this administration will get it.that’s is how Barry Switzer turned it around he was given an ultimatum win or you are out.
Get what? That we have a bad O Line? Where were you last week? WTF are you talking?
Hard to block 7 with 5
Dude, chilll
Come on Clemson has and all new line and they are a top five team it’s time stoops wins or else he should be out.
Just be patient. This is a rivalry game and if OSU Bucks get a pass so will we, as long as we win. A win is a win is a win.
WEST SHOULD HAVE MADE THAT CATCH
He was falling down as he made his cut. Too bad.
No, he made a good cut and took two strides then stumbled when he saw ball coming. Not ready for primetime.
Both hands touch the ball, you should catch it.
looked like a close call on the replay I saw, he was falling down and the ball was zipped high. I give credit to both for that miss…
Westbrook chocked and was falling. He runs normal, easy catch.
Boomer!
soonerrrrrrrrrrrrrr
The comeback versus Tenn is a good thing for this team to have experienced at this point.
If they are gonna blitz every down we need Mark Andrews to start killing them up the middle.
see, they just showed what Goff did to Texas that Mayfield can’t do
I’ve seen SO MANY of these kinds games over the Stoops years.
Wimp
We’ve had two drops, and two incidents of receivers falling down. Gotta figure we’ll see better results in second half. The entire momentum of the game swung UTs way when Baxter dropped the screen pass in the first drive that may have gone for a score.
We have one good WR, Shepherd. Why are we expecting our other WRs to carry the team. My problem is that we have two potential NFL RBs, yet they only carry the ball 8 times combined. I don’t get our offensive philosophy.
Matthew Hawkins ” I got an idea, let’s run the ball.”
Cool. Do you have any influence with Lincoln Riley?
Probably about as much as you! lol
They don’t need to carry the team, Just catch the ball when it hits their hands.
I don’t mean to insult our WRs. Neal has moments and Westbrook has great potential. But you don’t build your offense around them when you have Perine and Mixon.
I would love to hear what Bob is saying at half time.
he better be chewing them out up one side and down the other.
OC and DC? 😉
Haha, everyone!
Okay! Everyone check their gameday gear. Is something missing from your routine? Someone leave off their favorite shirt? Hat? Wrong socks? Come on now! We need corrections! lol
I got all correct I think checks my boxers dammmmmmmmm that’s it changing now
Does Mack Brown make anyone else almost miss Lou Holtz?
Yes. No question.
Yes
many mistakes, some minor , some major, but they all look correctible. First series or two of second half will be pretty important. 🙂
Siebert’s punting is beautiful.
ok 2nd half after game I might type worse
What would Barry do?
kick there ass
There are a lot of issues here, but the most inexplicable to me is that St. John is telegraphing every stinking play and we are using that head nod snap (I get this with crowd noise but not today). So what does UT see? They know a pass is coming and they can time the snap every single time. Even a great o line cannot overcome that. And obviously we aren’t great. They are teeing off right on time every time on us.
Bedenboom better change something now.
Yeah that pass/run reveal is very odd.
Concerned that the longhorns might throw more…but maybe that plays right into our strength if they do. Hope so.
3 years.
think the cheap shot would fire us up
yeah, it sure didn’t look good for our safety. when you see a hit coming, your body can at least react to protect, but that was a total cheap shot to his blindside. You hate to see that, but to tell you the truth, if I was in a bar with a longhorn right now, I’d do what i could to start a fight with the queer.
So how’s everyone’s mood in here right now?
I’ve been better, we’ll leave it at that
We should’ve taken some Legos so we could have some blocking on the wOeline.
my dog might get the longest walk of his life if we don’t do something in the 2nd half
Okay, time to crush Tejas’ hopes and dreams.
If we lose this game, I am quitting on the Sooners…until next week 😉 They take years off my life due to completely unnecessary stress, but that’s the school I chose
40 rushing yards in the first half?
A lot of that is sacks (college takes that off rushing yards, pros of passing yards). But still, run the damn ball.
I’m hoping the Sooner Defense takes control and dominates the second half!
Go Sooners!!
Great second half everyone!
ok get another beer game on
Any update on Jordan Thomas?
How about a nice, fresh turnover.
They have run on nobody this season, why can they run on us?
Yay. 9 yards on first down. This is going to suck
speilman is a good commentator
What the hell Sanchez!?
‘Chez wiffs.
Nice tackle Sanchez
Get sanchez out. now.
This 3rd quarter is key.
This is embarrassing
‘Chez is cover guy . Doens’t care for tackling.
I’m really liking the halftime adjustments so far.
TCU and Baylor are going to embarrass us
SMGDH
If they are going to run the ball, can we see a little Frank Shannon.
What kind of tackle was that Sanchez?
Why are we playing off in this game. F’ing stupid.
Heard is almost as good as Andrew Luck,…. almost.
Why wasn’t Jay Norvall better when he coached for us?
He wasn’t calling plays against Mike Stoops.
The second half is starting off like the first half.
Where’s the OPI
Surprised they keep trying that play
Make an f’ing tackle
Inexcusable.
Tackle!!!!
Omfg
Great players make great holds in great games.
“Great players make great plays in great games.” Heard is average and we suck than.
Why does it always seem like the Sooners D forgets how to tackle in this game?
It’s been a problem the last few years.
not just the Texas game either
Zero fundamentals
Tap sucks.
Uninspired. That’s OU.
Embarrassing …..can not tackle!!
Oh. My. God.
They just used the word “efforting”. That announcer should be fired.
They dont want it.
Wow, Mike Stoops can’t recruit.
Lets not get all crazy, just keep it at pissed off
The safeties he brought in are dead to me..
They can’t do one thing very good.
Well at least he doesn’t know much about the position because he didn’t play it at Iowa… Oh wait????
We just gonna let em walk on in?
No, we are probably going to burn another 5 minutes and than let them walk in.
We need a turnover
A turnover here would be nice
If they score a touchdown this game is over.
Yup.
I don’t know what the horns 3rd down conversion rate was coming into this, but we sure have helped pad their stats
This is the crap that happens when you keep converting safeties into LBs. Glorified flag football players.
Nice wrapup tackle.
C’mon Texass, this is where you’re good at screwing up. Miss the FG….
No matter the outcome today (I still think we can win this), we are overrated.
Have they said Striker’s name today?
Keeping him on his heels with the run game with the motions. He needs to read. Pass plays are short routes. Ball out quickly
Watch the fake
Oh, 17 to 3…that seems familiar.
My concern now, is TIME. Tejas has had the ball for WAYYY to long.
OK guys, I’m off this thread … Ou looks like they don’t care, and UT is doing whatever they want. Bob is on path to yet another WTF? loss. Pathetic and I have nothing positive left to say so ciao everyone. I’ll see you on the flipside of this game.
Bye.
This team fights but we are overrated, the o-line is subpar
We are right back in this game with a TD
Exactly. Once we score we won’t stop.
Time for a big play on offense.
We proved we can score three TDS in a single quarter.
Against Akron or Tulsa?
We let burn almost half of the third quarter and let them score this team is uninspired today.
OK We got em right where we want em now. 🙂 Sorry, couldn’t resist. Later…
Go Sooners.!
Next year we will have 2013 and 2015 to watch over and over again during the week.
But do you remember the good things we did against Bama in the sugar bowl?
LOL
OU may not have enough time to get in front of this score even if they begin to play flawless football…..I really cannot believe what I am seeing.
the pundits had all awarded the win to OU and the only question was by how many points OU would crush this UT team by.
my fault for thinking that OU would beat Texas by as many points as they wanted….
Please, please, please hand the ball off
Flowers 5th holding call this year!!
Hmm, they will blitz, what will we do?
os…….”I’m going to tell friends I don’t care if they weddings on Fall Saturdays anymore”
I’m at a wedding now… It sucks. I’m in no mood for this loss
Heard is being very decisive! One read. He takes off! He’s not forcing anything. He’s throwing the ball away to avoid sacks.
Just another rhythm qb we are making look like a heisman
Run the ball again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Our coaches fixed the O-line holding problem, but in turn screwed the O-line protection. Ha
Again, these halftime adjustments are amazing.
that should be a fumble
All right! 1st down let’s go!
Hey, we picked up a blitz!!!!
We picked up the blitz!!!!!!! 1st down.
How interesting…
Good block perine
That’s we he needs to be in there.
Finally a screen
just score
Moving the chains!
Hey. that works!
Holy hell, 2 first downs?
Damn, it is raining in Seattle and I am starting to get bad reception. Which should bother me because I have cable.
1st and goal!!!
Drive drive! Let’s go!! Let it rip who hoo
Shepard s a gridiron god!!!!
did someone nay nay me on the double pump deep ball earlier?
Haven’t had the time to let it develop…until now.
Yesss!
2 yard line. Three run plays to get 2 yards.
Baker can take a lick, giv him that
TD no FG’s
FINALLY! BOOMER
Well Looky there!! Offset-I, play action, and a TD!
I didn’t know he could even be placed under center, I thought it was a penalty.
Flags?
This better be against texass
At least it is after the play.
Motherf…
I call BS!
NOW they call that? UT has been hitting late all game.
Almost every single play.
Exactly
Look! It’s moving. It’s alive. It’s alive… It’s alive, it’s moving, it’s alive, it’s alive, it’s alive, it’s alive, IT’S ALIVE!
That’s the Baker we need.
That’s the pass blocking we need
Defense needs a stop. Play together O and D…
Why did it take an entire first half for LR to make these adjustments?
Why does it take Urban Meyer 3rd quarters to wake up OSU? Sark at USC didn’t wake up. Perhaps your expectations of CFB and OU is too high for this day and age when every team has talented players.
That’s their problem. I worry about OUR problems.
Seems to be his MO. He makes good adjustments but they come late.
Flowers oepn for 10 minutes, baker hangs on for the drama, passes last minute for effect. Ha ha
He was covered initially.
Not really. He was just as open two seconds before thr throw. But I’ll take it!!!!
Make that 15 minutes
We just gave great field position because of that penalty.
I lost my feed out here in Hawaii and they score!?! That figures.
Don’t turn it back on!!
Was thinkin the same thing.
Call the freaking holding!
Geez. Quick got tackled.
My chest still hurts just watching the hits Mayfield is taking
Hodgson needs to show the D how to wrap up.
Samaje put a nice block on the guy in the backfield to free Baker up to pick out his target. Samaje is underrated, in that regard, I think.
YES
Seriously, have they called a single holding this whole game? Either team?
Defensive holding.
Several against us on returns.
A Striker sighting!
Striker has joined the game!
Put Nick H. In on D! He ain’t afraid to hit a whorn!
Attaboy DDDDDDDDDDDD
Yeah!
Momentum
Great stand. Let’s go win it now.
Huuuuuuuuuuuuuge stop!!!!!!!
If Charles Tapper’s Jersey is getting pulled way back behind him, is that means for a holding? I clearly don’t understand the rule.
There was a hold on the kick return too. These officials suck. But that is rhetorical, they are from the Big xii conference.
And the shovel makes an appearance…just not for us. But at least it showed up!
The Horns’ will shall begin to wilt if we can tie it up.
Gotta follow up here. The whorns break if we tie it up.
C’mon everyone, back on the bandwgon! Follow me to freedom!
I’ve never left. Never will. Boooooomer!
Soooooooooooner!!!
Was joking
I’m there with ya! I’ve just been quiet, waiting patiently for us to turn it around.
Texas is looking for a reason to quit…. Time to give it to them! BOOMER
defense looking much better.
offense in a better grove.
That’s it. Quick passes. Runs.
Shepard is a gridiron god!!!
need 7.
Gotta lead him just a hair more to the inside and that is a catch.
Andrews?
Holding on OU, and should have been a late hit there.
Yep.
What? ( steps off wagon)
F the refs.
There was NO hands to the face there. That is BS!
That was weak.
Go for it
no targeting?
Good punt if we can use it.
Seibert might be our best player. Beast.
Money.
Time for an oskie.
That was just a field position drive was all that was… strategery
Big 12 must have gotten the short end of the straw when getting refs.
They have been horrible for years. I wonder if they were all rejects from the Pac12.
They hire exclusively from Lighthouse for the Blind.
fumble coming.
Still can’t tackle.
Damn
*&^%^&*^%^^%$$
That hurts
Do we practice tackling?
We just lost the game on that run.
Just when I thought our D was taking hold…
Our safeties are no good minus parker who rules. The contrast is ridiculous
Speechless at our entire team performance today. No excuse for their lack of enthusiasm and throwing fundamentals out the window. Totally disgusting.
It’s time to tell stoops if we lose today his job is no longer secure.
That is not what I am saying.
But that is what I am saying.
Good effort by ‘Chez t save TD
Charlie Strong will probably get an extension after this game.
Hold them to a FG attempt and let the kicker miss
We look like Auburn trying to tackle fournette today.
Simply outplayed for the majority of this game
Like last year. And the year before.
Texas is celebrating like it’s over and they are only up 7 at the moment with an entire quarter left. That’s how little they think of our offense today.
We haven’t shown that we can do much other than one drive.
Not scoring on that last drive was very detrimental.
That run was HUGE gut punch. What do we got? Lets GO!
Mike stoops needs to go.
Big game Bob should go to.
We going to lose another 3 games tcu, baylor, and osu
YOU should go!
There longest play of the year is against us?
Why do we sugar coat this? Mike Stoops is incompetent and should be fired. I am not sure he could work for anybody other than Bob Stoops as the DC.
Yep, show him the door
The LB Evans couldn’t make the play.
Frank Shannon is a good run stopper, but I don’t think he’s seen the field all season.
Mike constantly gets schooled by poor offensive teams. Over and over again.
We gotta get a turnover!
Man, this board can change on a dime.
I’m tired of playing our way into the title conversation every year just to play flat against average teams.
This team is a complete fail. How do we look worse than Texas?
Mike Stoops should be fired after this game!!! PERIOD!!!!
All TEXASSSSSSS!!! has done is run the football all game.
Exactly. There were not a threat to win by passing.
Hope Bob and mike are ready for the press onslaught and they deserve it
Point was made that Texas has out ran us the last 2 years was brought up and we can’t win if we can’t run. Just IMO mean point fingers at Mike but, it’s not just Mike guys the push is not there up front. Mayfield can’t do it all we need Perine and Mixon to be able to run.
Yep, our o-line is just downright bad.
This is not Mike stoops’ fault. They’ve only scored 17 points so far and even if they score here their TDs are from basic runs where none of the players on the field could make a tackle.
Why are we doing this playing not to lose S$%t.
Okay, gonna park our bandwagon in the garage for a bit 🙂
Lol. These coaches. Timeout. You kidding me?
Byrd is a bonehead
Oh its embarrassing
And we burn a timeout? After a quarter break?
Good to see we are back to use our timeouts when we can’t our personnel right instead of when we actually need them
Walker in at de
Bad angle byrd
Game over.
And ballgame
Morons. Everyone saw that coming.
The announcers saw that play coming – but not our defense.
Alamo Bowl it is then.
The announcers called it. Mike Stoops should be let go after the game.
Look……Fuct it what is the point!!!
Hahahahaha this is embarrassing. Stoops needs to go both of them
They deserve to lose this game
I’m sort of shocked that we had NOT ONE player in coverage. The announcers knew it, and we don’t. Wow.
They are really going to come after baker now.
Let’s just put together a nice drive and salvage some respect.
Even if the O scores the D has been unable to get off the field. Time is already a factor.
Guess I am the only one on hear that still thinks we have a chance.
I don’t think that it’s too far out of reach. Cut out the big plays by their offense.
On paper we have a chance. After watching the game, it’s almost a 0% chance.
No we just want some cheese with our whine. We are still rooting
You’re right. But our O needs to score at least 14 points 🙂
Our offense is a disaster, that’s the issue with this team…
Exactly. Riley walked in with playmakers all over, a QB familiar with his system, and we score 10 on the worst Texsa team since 1950-whatever? Not sold.
You have to have an offensive line that can block beyond a bunch of lookout blocks. We do not currently have that.
I called three run plays in the first half….I don’t know what the F$%^ I am doing…REALLY…I am sorry but I am a pissed off fan.
This is a flat out ass whipping
No line they cant open holes
It’s a total team lack of effort. I blame the defense primarily because texass is a one-dimensional team and we can’t even stop that. But the offense isn’t getting a pass either.
Bet Norvell can;t stop smiling.
Our terrible offensive line and inability to tackle on D cost us this game
Changed coordinators… we have been soundly beaten by both Venables and now Norvell (I know the game isn’t over but even if somehow we win this debacle we got our ass kicked). Maybe coordinator isn’t the problem.
Pikc up the pace!
Sure wish we could trade players.. I’d trade a rb qb and wr and a oc for three o-linemen
I kind of get that our offense is in transition — and that Riley is having trouble running his system with the players we have. The O line, in particular, is brutally bad. But M. Stoops hasn’t got that excuse. Another astonishingly poor defensive effort.
So much for the genius of Lincoln riley
Worst O-line in the Stoops era. Need a TD here
Good to see Ty blocking absolutely no one on that play.
Now do you see why we aren’t runnnig the ball more?
He should have given to Perine
Whew
Nice!
“Out of the Witness Protection Program” Even the announcers are making fun or our play calling.
Don;t we have a guy names Andrews?
Throw the ball!
A four man rush is pushing our o-line around. Sad
Ok people, I am an OU fan but, you whoa is me fans got to go! We knew in seriousness that we where at least one season away from being contenders but 4-0 and we are the greatest team ever get real well most of y’all!
Amen Brien!
Mayfield dint check down.
Cant when looking down at his feet
Have to go for it
Welcome to reality…let’s see how the rest on the season goes. Oh and Charlie…you’re welcome..
8 yard cushion on the receivers
A Quick sighting!
Hell yeah, let’s go!
Quick!!!
2 yard line. Please run the ball. I formation run the ball
Actually good block by Darlington
First one of the game
Again
When OU comes back and wins all you fans that hated and said fire everyone don’t say a DAMN word!
Cmon im warming the bandwagon up again 😉
So you’re saying we played well today and that we were well coached?
No but I am saying everyone was packing up a quarter ago is all, when your a fan you stay with your boys all the way through no matter what.
Are you one of those fans that can’t be realist or critical and are only flowers and cupcakes the whole time?
There is always a positive in every situation Sir, are you a glass is half full or half empty?
I’m a realist. I make that determination based on if someone drank or filled up the glass.
I’m a realist also, I said 11-3 this season 14-0 next season that was my realist guess! But, it is all POV isn’t it
History. That’s all I have to say. Seen too many of these games in the Stoops era turn into routs. If it weren’t for friggin’ Mayfield, this game would be a blowout.
He was brought in to install an “air raid” offense. You want him to abandon that and run the ball with THIS O line?
Well said!
I want him to run the ball with these running backs. Bad decision by BS.
He has, for little to no gain, because our o-line couldn’t block their way out of a paper sack.
Huh?
I still want Riley fired. 8 carries for Mixon and Perine in the first half is a fireable offense.
Lol that’s a bit dramatic. Sometimes the first half doesn’t go as planned. Especially when Texas wants to stop the run.
Texas was selling out on the blitz because we are predictable and don’t commit to run.
Debatable get Mixon the ball in the passing game
Not firing here…but just disappointed so far…
No. We have played like crap against a 1-4 UT team.
That’s if we but regardless if we win or lose today after what I have seen today there is no way we beat t.c.u or Baylor.
Oh you of little faith 🙁
Power football!!!!
That’s why this is a game thread bra
Time for the defense to step up
Got to hold them on this drive and get the ball back quick!
Wait until 9 minutes left to find some emotion?
D needs a quick stop.
UH UM
Mettle time.
120th ranked defense and we got 17. Hahaha
I’m going to make an incisive observation here and say that we need a stop on Dfence
Defense!!!!!!!!!
Thats ok, I was the only one who thought they would beat Tennessee too.
I remember that. Lead us back to victory, brother.
Can I please have an okie? I’m not greedy. Just one will do, thank you.
Turnover time!!! LETS GO DDD!!
Need to stop them then score and score again! Why can’t you do that Mike stoops, you’re fired!!! Ha ha ha
Paging Sooner Magic!
C’mon, Texas. Be Texas. Turn the ball over.
Everyone psychically wish for a turnover. We as a chat forum CAN make a difference
Does this team even know what containment means?
Yeah!!!
How can they run against us but we can’t run against them?
Is it determination?
277 rushing yards for texas and only 11 passes. Seems like it should be easy for the defense.
Great play call Mike Stoops!
That was a brilliant call to blitz Sanchez
The execution was perfect.
Great call.. Imagine if dom would have picked that off before it bounces!?!
All right!
Another O.T. win.
Here it is. The season on the line. Ball in our hands. The Red River Rumble is alive!
Gotta love OU-Texass! LEts GO O!
Psychic powers working, now let’s ESP this sh*t into the endzone! ?
D shows up. Finally got some pressure and sealed the edge.
If we pull this out, I will take back every woe-is-me post I’ve made. And will likely lactate.
Pics, or it didn’t happen!
C’mon Sooners
Boomer!
Sooner!!!
Everyone just keep doing wht you are doing, dont jinx this for us! No piss breaks!
Make smart decisions Mayfield.
If we have a trick play, might be a nice time to try it.
This got to be Andrews.
He is never on the field.
Andrews cant block yet, and he is slow off the line sometimes. He is the future, not consistent now
We don’t need him to block on 3rd and 14.
The O line puts us behind the chains again. As long as #6 gets time we can convert this.
I’ve never seen a stoops team with a bunch of rbs who can’t block.
Throw the ball idiot
No offensive line.
Oh my
Embarrassing
Against a three man rush?
That’s game.
Mayfield caused that by moving back, instead of up into the pocket.
Ty’s been getting beat all day long. Hard to trust stepping into the pocket at this point.
I am not saying the coaching staff should be fired. But they should have to walk back to Norman.
No, they should be fired.
But…but…Alabama…
They should be fired and have to walk back to Norman!
If they get one first down the game is over.
St. John shouldn’t start another game
Without a Oline there is not much we can do to be consistent on O.
once or twice a year, ou craps their pants. disgusting
How did they sack us with a 3 man rush? Unfortunately I know the answer
Wow, we knew they were going to run and still couldn’t stop it.
UPDATE!!! WE CAN’T BLOCK
Ball game
There goes the game.
I can’t even believe how much SUCK this line is.
I don’t kinow how Mike Stoops keeps his job.
yes I do, nepotism.
Go away.
The only way….he is out of touch!
This egg is on the offense..
Yep. I put this one on the offense. 3 points in the first half against this Texas defense?!?
Norvell had a good gameplan
Game plan for this week: Run, run, run, run, run, run. Yep, good game plan.
3 man pressure and they’re through immediately. Despicable.
Oh, well. Clearly some lessons are never learned.
Worst O line I remember ever having. None have earned their scholarships.
embarrassing.
That burned time out really hurts, thanks hatari
On a positive note, I don’t have to wait until the end of the season to be disappointed.
I like your thinking
Bedenbaugh should be on the chopping block. He’s had all year to get some semblance of a line and they’ve only gotten worse.
It’s time. His recruits haven’t panned out. Brown is the only one that is decent
Scheme doesn’t matter if you can’t block.
I work in Austin, life will be hell for a while
For a whole year, I’d say.
Riley’s routes need to be short as well as long. Mayfield should have a safety valve.
It’s been a good run but nobody expected us to hit the playoffs. Sooner or later, we knew the line was gonna get us. No need calling out players….the coaches put kids in that position. Clean up what we can and close out the season strong. Disappointed
Sanchez sucks
Norvell sticking it to us hurts
It pisses me off and makes me laugh at the same time that the only way uterus can do well is by picking up former OU players/coaches. DKR, Mack, Norvell. Almost makes me nervous to fire Stoops.
53 runs and 12 passes and somehow we can’t figure that out.
That’s it. Game over
Didn’t see that coming…
12 damn passes.. 12. I’m just gonna leave that here
What a joke.
Game over!!
Unreal. Un freaking real.
Does anyone like our 3 man front?
I think that was a hold
This is the third game in a row Texas has dominated us. We were saved by TOs last year.
28 passes to 37 runs for us and a 1.7 yards per carry why did we still run?
True, but is that taking out the sacks?
My hopes for the season just went from 11-1 to 9-3. O line needs to get overhauled.
If we finish the season with only three loses—–especially with this O-Line—-I’d say the year was a success.
That’s awfully optimistic.
Cant wait for the Bendenbaugh efdect to happen…
3-4 is about right. Strong let the cat out of the bag for the rest of the conference: our OL can’t block a shopping cart.
Mike’s time should be up too. He’s proven he can’t gameplan or adjust.
I have always like MS and held off on all the calls to fire him but I am warming up to bringing in a new D coordinator.
“First, I want to congratulate Coach Strong, he has a talented team over there…
I hate us… Until the next game. Good day gents
Don’t blame this all on our defense. TCU put 50 on Texas last week. We scored 17.
no, this is on the offense.
The way OU runs the ball this year is how the Philadelphia Eagles run the ball.
pathetic performance don’t want to here anybody defend the stoops after today.
The Stoops we have today and the Stoops who showed up in Norman 16 years ago just are not the same person.
Embarrassing, this season is only going to get worse.
And that’s how you beat the 3-3-5 defense running 1 play over and over. any questions?
what the hell was that? poor, poor game plan
Well I’ll check out until next week. It’s about to get even uglier on the boards.
Oh, well. No more illusions about winning the BIg 12. Or anyhting else. Just be happy to see if we can play better each week.
Both Stoops need to go. Bob is the new Mack
I’m Sooner born and Sooner bred. But my goodness that was embarrassing.
The defense quit…not a good sign going forward. A replay of 2013
Awful
Embarrassed
Lost two out of the last three to this pathetic whorn squad.
I’m just embarrassed
Everybody quit talking this team up, they aren’t as good as what everyone thought
UN fucking believable.
We lost this game in the trenches. They dominate both lines
Yup…..I think Darlington is a heck of a young man, but he got seriously handled today….and recognition of pressure was abysmal.
We will lose 5 games again this year we are going to lose to Kansas State next week just watch.
You forgot to say “I hope I’m wrong”
Maybe he’s not.
Dear OU- You actually have to show up and play the game to win. That means tackle and block. Just because you are OU and in the top 10, doesn’t mean you just get the win. I hate to have to break this to you, but it seems like your head coach doesn’t want to tell you.
Over rated, no heart
we should have played the defense texas played. we were not aggressive and it showed.
This is why we have no national respect anymore and bob stoops is doubted by the media and fans. This team was not mentally prepared to play.
Unbelievably embarrassing. Mike and Bill should be the first to go. Nobody has any leg to stand on right now.
If mike stoops is not fired after this game than F&$^*it…..he is the one to blame!!!
Bye
See ya
From the get go, we did not play to stop the run. Is it that hard? We looked confused when the WR would come across the QB and they would run the read. Stupid. I don’t know what to do with this team.
we need an offensive line.
I guess misdirection and QB’s that can run will always be a winning formula against M Stoop’s defenses, maybe he can see that better from the booth
Sick.
Appr..60 runs to 10 pass…………..
The right side of our oline got abused. And another time a Bob Stoops has come flat and laid an egg against an inferior opponent. I understand it’s a rival game but wow.
Really
defense wasn’t great but the offense was terrible.
This loss is on.Stoops worse lost in Stoops era
Seems like I’ve heard that before.
It will become a more and more common statement as we head toward the end of the Stoops Era At OU.
It was bad… But not that bad
No it was horrible
Yea, it might’ve been man. Needed to run the table for our confidence to build. We always get this freak loss that we shouldnt lose, and it totally derails the season. Damn.
Which one was worse? This is on Stoops!
It was that bad. We’ve reached a new low.
Uh, I’m thinking that destruction by USC in the NC in 2004 is worse than this. But then again, that’s my opinion. I think the loss in 2013 was worse than this one as well. Again, just my opinion.
Well technically, every “1st” loss is the worst loss. Always sucks the worst.
Edit: Except for the championship games, cuz those sucked balls too.;
Texass was 1-4 and just got blown out. This is the 3rd time sone last year OU came out uninspired
We are Va Tech
We are USC.
If Mike keeps his job and we don’t get an oline, we’ll be lucky to get 6 wins this year.
Could TFB rename the title of the thread to the “Commiseration Thread?”
How about the Petition to fire MS thread?
baker ate the ball too many times. we need a quick release and quick hits when they are blitzing us like that. nothing at all. it was a poor performance by the whole offense.
We can certainly get that Heisman talk out of the way now.
I honestly thought he played well. When he ate the ball, it was usually because he didn’t have someone to throw to. Routes were too deep.
True. I’m not knocking on the guy. But on paper, no more Heisman talk for the Baker.
The routes are being run too deep. Adjustments needed to combat no O line. He had more than enough time it wasn’t a 1, 2, sack…NO one was getting open.
So… Loses to Baylor, TCU and Texas this year. OSU, k-state and tech are 50-50. Probably go 8-5 or 9-4 this year.
I’m thinking we’ll be lucky to go bowling. Especially with the current coaching staff.
It depends how the team takes this loss IMO.
If they go 8-5 or9-4 they should look for a new coach period. And I love Coach Stoops !!!
Only one guaranteed win left on the schedule.
Welcome to the new Bob Stoops…Gary Gibbs 2.0; 9-3 with a teaser win every once in a while that gives you hope for the future.
I am officially over the Stoops era. Our program is just a punchbowl filled with incompetence and poor performance from top to bottom.
Chill. It is talent on the O and D lines. Coaches can only work with what they’ve got.
No excuses. 120th ranked d and we produce 17 pts
I’ve been “chill” for 6 years. I’m all outta “chill”. I had a bad feeling when I saw Bob say he basically “googled the highest scoring offense and air-raid n stuff” when we’re not built for that. It’s showing…..and Riley hasn’t impressed me at all.
Love ya Sooners!!!!
Of all the losses I hate losing to Texas…
I’m sorry I know our oline has its struggles, but this “air raid” offense is terrible. So predictable.
I bet you didn’t predict they’d use the offset-I formation and actually score with it, twice.
Haha. I noticed that too. Finally.
Right. And I bet you predicted OU would kill texass.
I did I did! lol
Atta boy! Good call, champ!
But I didnt predict it until we were already down 14 (trying to muster hope.) I was leery of this game just because, well you know, OU-Texass.
Absolutely we should.
I honestly loved the offset I. I think it should be more of a staple of our offense, especially with Perine at fb.
I do agree with that. It is hard to run when your o-line cannot get out of their own way to block. UGH! However we cannot win games giving up 313 yards on the ground. We only put up 67 yards rushing. That is not going to win a lot of games. Especially when our QB is on his back half the time.
No we won’t. But when we go 5 or 4 wide and St. John is tipping the play we need to find a way to slow down the rush. We rarely did that.
I agree. We threw two quick screens, one was dropped and the other went for a good gain. Why not run that A LOT?
Yea that tipping of the play is straight bullshit and needs to be fixed.
That or bring in Samia and see if he does any better.
How’s that for irony? Air Raid’s 2 TDs come from offset I…
It’s flexible. No O LINE AND ROUTES too deep. Where are the bubble screens to bring the Cb up?
This is the worst coaching performance since he has been here it’s time the fans show just how upset they are don’t go to the next game show this administration sooner nation is very upset.
Such a weak defensive scheme. They run the ball 95% of the time and we refuse to stack the box or bring pressure.
This is true. Should have made them throw period.
If all of us know it. Why doesn’t Mike? Seems like he was trying to get in to Jay’s head. Keep it simple Mike. Or find something else to do bro.
^^^^^^THIS^^^^^^
At least force them to do something they aren’t comfortable with….Mike Stoops is so freakin stubborn he will soon be unemployed!
yesssssss
Offensive line finally caught up with OU and the had no desire to win Texas flat out wanted 100% more
I’m done. Time to get blackout drunk and pretend this never happened.
It’s just past noon here, so I can get my drunk on as well. Actually started drinking at half time to try and calm my nerves.
This just sucks.
Until next time, my faniacs. Love my Sooners. Love my state. Just ready for the next game and to get this turd of a performance behind us.
Damn. That hit home.
Its like the Gary Gibbs era.
How do you not stack the line of scrimmage and force them to throw? That’s how every team
has played them. Stupid Defense
this fan is never surprised/shocked anymore at the outcome when we are favored in these type of games
Sadly it has become the norm.
Worst part of this game? Me having to talk with my friend this evening for three hours that is a huge shorthorn fan. UGH!
Sorry my friend!
SMH….
Worst part for sure. I never talk about the game when we win, but they always do..
He’s already texting me. Yep I have more class and I will be classy. I congratulated him and said nice win. It kind of deflated him.
agreed having one side of the family from Texas and the other from OK..its the worthless convos im going to have to entertain knowing that Texas will go out and get trashed by other teams in the next few weeks
Yep. He was talking crap after the game and I said, he you might get two more wins this year. He got quiet for a while after that.
All yours, have at it. Later….
Agreed……the big run felt like a punch to the gut. I think a lot of fans feared that was probably the back breaker but didn’t want to say it.
Exactly.
Agreed….they’re not finished yet. But this team has a lot of growing to do.
UT will come down and get beat 3 or 4 more times this year.
ou ‘d’ was the big surprise to me…….we knew the o line has problems
Yep. They looked like they were fearful of the passing game.
OUr oline just is not that good and as someone said earier Darlington just wasnt that differnce maker…Farniok was absolutely horrible and St John well lets just say he did his normal…put Alvarez in the middle and slide Samia in there as well
Yes. I say with everyone coming back in 2016 except Shep…play for next year. Brown, move Alvarez to center, Samia or Fryson at RT. Left guard?
Totally agree. St. Johns didn’t even try half the time. He got Baker sacked more than once He needs to sit. Play for the future. Start developing the talent that wants to play hard and learn. Get the loafers out.
We looked like Mac Browns Texas today.. SOFT..
post-game radio is going to be fun
Bob was just interviewed on radio. Certainly didnt hold back in reference to offenses “lackluster” performance. Did mention that in 2013, we rallied from this game to go on and win the “Sugar Bowl.”
Please tell me you are joking.
Unfortunately, I cannot say that.
I used to love Bob, but I think he needs to be let go just because he can’t get over the dang sugar bowl. My goodness. Haha
Yea, I really, really wish he’d stop mentioning it. Forever. It was a big win, but it really wasn’t that big.
I wish I could believe he was just being the biggest troll, but I know it’s not true.
Omg! That’s just sad.. I’m starting to think he wears an “I beat bama” t shirt.
Probably has it tattooed on his arse.
Lackluster? Knute Rockne was famous for doing one thing. Motivating his team.
Well he said they were “bad, and way too inconsistent, with wayyyy too much pressure.” Lackluster was my word…
Motivation? Hell, Bob could NOT motivate a starving Ethiopian to eat!!!!!!
im not one to call for Bobs job …but i do get tired of him bringing up what happened in the past
But did he call out his brother?
Big Excuse Bob is here to stay folks.
Didn’t call out the defense I’m guessing?
He did, but not as strongly as the offense. Said the D needs better tackling, but thought they got better as game went on (which they did.) But no, he seemed pretty honest about our play, with the exception of acknowledging a lack of motivation (so it seems.)
enuf with the sb already……..we haven’t played the good teams in this conf yet
It’s the same problem as the whole season has been OL play. Coach B has to figure something out or replace guys PERIOD. I know they are young but it’s time to start improving. I don’t think they have started to improve at all.
Yeah. I say move Ty and Nila out. Adjust the route running, not enough short quick routes in my view.
Well we play our old DC in Clemson and lose. We play one of our old OC at Texas and lose. Who feels good about trying Utah State. Lmao
That’s funny.
He lost five years not 8 years to Texas.
OK I compromise at 6. He lost 58, 59, 60, 61, 62, 63, then OU lost the following two years after he left.
Six in a row!!
Buy the way who was the coach for Texas it was Darrell royal who was a bud player don’t forget he learn everything at Oklahoma.
“it was Darrell royal who was a bud player don’t forget he learn everything at Oklahoma.” Finally we agree…:-) cheers!
No doubt. I used to listen to KFOX Jimmini christmas…OU won more games than anybody from 73-88. Three titles, could have been 7-8 though. Some disappointments as well. But we destroyed people, even having to play Tex and Neb every year.
I really miss Barry Switzerand the boz we used to be really great but maybe no more.
Agree James. I mean, we are used to being on top or at least top three to five. Last week was a good win. But they all looked asleep today.
I will take 9 and 3 but I think 8and 4 is more likely.
Barry Lost to Texas 3 years in a row. 4 years out of 5, which became 5 out of 7.
That’s the problem each year lest sooner fans remember Oklahoma before 2000 so many just except Oklahoma as a mediocre program.
I have been a Sooner fan since 1970. I remember lots of things about the Sooners.
They where great under Barry Switzer that’s what I remember really great.
Yes, but he lost control of the team late in his career. 9-5-2 was his record against the shorthorns. He did have 2, four game win streaks.
Because some players became bad apples it got way from him not because of talent.
True.
There is also a talent problem with ou has been for a couple of years now there are a few on here that refuse to believe this but you have to recruit talent to win something we are not doing very well just my 2 cent.
we have talent …the system is to new…and we need a few more pieces on that Oline to step up….were getting closer though
I’m not so sure the “game” has passed him up, I think its just that the “Fire” that he brought here, is gone, and has been for 6-7 years now. Not sure he or his teams will ever get it back.
I think he could be a great coach again if he had to start over somewhere else.
I’m not sure. Maybe he is just much nicer now, and can’t produce the crazy motivation he once did..
And I’m not saying he’s not a great coach, but maybe not a great motivator anymore?
I’m not going to pretend to know anything about that. It’s just my guess that he is too comfortable.
1: no motivation
2: no adjustments on offense
3: no adjustment to the run game
4: no excuses, this just SUCKED!!!!!
Chip Kelly? Satan-Saban? Jerry Montgomery?
I’m not sure there is a coach out there I’d take over Stoops, still.
I’m with you. But then it’s a lack of talent on the lines.
Sure D Hunter, let’s pull in Monty who’s never even been a coordinator. Good call there.
I can’t think of a single thing Boren has done right in the last five years. And that includes supporting liberal policies that make tuition higher for everyone.
LR on radio now…
welcome to losing the tx game and it’s aftermath
Trying my best not to burst into a curse strewn rant. I could not believe how flat we came out. This has been my biggest problem with Bob. If he doesn’t have the “No Respect” card he can’t get his team fired up.
I do agree with that. He does not seem to get his team fired up for certain foes.
The 2015 season is ……over. ugh..ugh….
Why did we not go to a true 4 man front? All they were doing was running the ball. Very poor D and O play calling in games for way too long.
I was saying that all game. They were gashing us with 2 DL and two linebackers with their hands in the dirt and no changes.
Well it’s been fun everyone. Until next week….
Not yet anyway.
horns had 6 sax today and 7 for the yr before today
Not to be that guy or anything but again the Big 12 refs missed TWO HUGE calls. There was a huge hold on the 81 yard run and then another one were Heard got a first down on that 3rd and long in the 4th quarter with about 3 minutes to play. OU deserved to lose this one but the refs surely let Texas get away with a win. By the officiating being so awful from week to week in almost nearly every Big 12 matchup, you’d think someone would do something about it.
I saw that.
Are you referring to the hold on J. Evans on that big run? I thought I saw that, but didn’t back up the DVR to check. Seemed like the blocker had Jordan wrapped around the should and pulled him completely out of the play. That was huge — maybe the biggest play of the game for Texas.
It was a definite hold
He didn’t block J Evans, he tackled him. Wrapped him up around the neck tackle. Horrible. 55 run plays by UT – NOT ONE HOLDING PENALTY. For a line that isn’t supposed to be good, that’s fing incredible.
Our OL is garbage!
That offensive line… I35 could’ve done a better job of slowing down that pass rush. I miss Daryl and Tyrus…
3 years in a row, Our Oline and Dline have been dominated. And yes, I realize we won in 2014, but they dominated the line of scrimmage.
Spot on!
yeah i was puzzled why we did’lt load box more, or go with four DL.
some times I think the OU coaches set these plans on purpose to lose games.. Reason ? cut down on the pressure to win titles as well as Boren’s mantra stressing academic success over athletic success…
Maybe Bob and Joe need to worry less about our start times, and more on our blocking and tackling.
Stoops shake up the staff again this year?
Pointless.
I kind of doubt that Bob is going to have another opportunity. The big donors made it pretty clear last year that he needed to make whatever changes to turn things around and that they would pay for staff changes — but that his future would depend on the result. He made a lot of good changes, but he left his brother in charge of the defense.
I really think you are wrong. Really.
This sucks.
Curtis Fitzpatrick @cfitzfox
OU DB Steven Parker says they didn’t prepare for Swoopes running the ball
I……I……I can’t even.
Yeah. Why prepare for something that they have done all season?
what???
incredible if true
Fairly evident to me the entire team was not prepared for this game. Period.
Or throwing it.
Tell me again Mike Stoops salary…
They will make him restate that by tomorrow so it fits the excuses.
…
Losing the early game takes all the fun out of watching the rest of the day’s games. Now I’ll just have to go for a walk or something. I don’t like taking walks.
yeah, I have to switch channels quickly to avoid the videos of ut celebration……..this loss really screws up a weekend
I’m hoping Navy beats ND.
I hear ya. Makes me not even watch anymore for the day. Just a very disappointing loss.
I’m watching the ISU/Taco Tech game. Without really caring. Thinking I may take a nap soon.
tenn/ga is more interesting
LOL! I don’t know it’s 17-14 in the 2nd. Mangino is doing a good job and hey I’m seeing offensive lines block. UGH!
I didn’t know we still used the tight end.
We did for one game this year and then it was Copperfielded.
They can’t even pickup a 3 man rush.
RB’s blocking, picking up blitz, worse I have seen, ever, under Stoops. Bolware is not a good coach….IMO
Really hated to see Gundy move to wr’s. Wish we would have just hired some stud receiver coach, and left Gundy at RB.
Saw today and last week, a RB package of Brooks and Perine or Mixon. Brooks was the lead blocker. Is that Riley or Boulware’s call?
Not sure on that. I would assume Riley decides who the back is and where…
Did M Stoops get to cute with his 2-4-5 game plan?
I’m beginning to question the intellectual capacity of the Stoops bothers as people, not just their coaching.
I understand what M. Stoops was thinking, more athletes to contain Heard. But he forgot that this made us softer in the middle. With only 2 Dlineman, Ut OL was getting to second level on Alexander and Evans. Most I have seen them have to take on blocks this year.
Maybe so, but Lindley is a liability!!!!
No argument!!! Why did Obo not play?
He busted an assignment last week ( TD on 4th down on QB run) so he is in Mike’s doghouse. Hell, Frank Shannon can’t even sniff the field!!!!!
We tackle, and the Defensive gameplan doesnt look nearly as bad.
BOOMER.
Can’t wait to hear Bob and Mike’s excuses for this fiasco.
They will same s last year,, players need to execute, blah, blah, blah.
Why did Obo not play?
OK, I’m going for my walk. But I am NOT happy about it.
Venables never won a game in Lubbock and he coaches in a conference with ZERO spread offenses, much less any other kind of offense.
No kidding. Venables was not that good of a d coordinator. Constantly playing off the WRs. But I still think we should have went to 4 DL today.
right venables kinds of gets a pass to a point he is not facing the spreads week after week i dont believe Venables hasnt just out of the blue became a better DC then Mike
Zero spread offenses is exactly the point. These other DC’s look great in the SEC, B1G, etc. Then they play one of the more potent offenses in the post season and get shredded. Alabama the last few years is exhibit A. Where is the D that consistently gets it done against the more high powered offenses?
Coach V is exceptional at stopping the run, one of the best, but he did have problems against the passing game. Like most.
Agreed, the secondary had issues. On the other hand I think we’re seeing that pretty much everyone is struggling to stop the pass in this league.
That one was coming like an oncoming train. Boys been reading their press clippings while the Uteras guys were just getting pissed off. Oh well, on to the next one. Boomer
pissed off….and tweeting.
losing 47 yards in sacks to the qb, won’t cut it. Neither will 3 of 12 on third down.
Neither will giving up 313 yards rushing while only gaining 67 on the ground.
It is what it bees! Our o-line just can’t protect the QB.
Hard to win a game when your o-line can’t block. They looked really bad today.
I have seen more whiffs by our blockers this year than Nolan Ryan had in his entire career…..
You mean Mike’s 2-4-5 defense didn’t impress you against a running team that can’t throw the ball?
Shocker right!? He’s just so behind the times and stuck in his ways. Adapt or Die
No disrespect here, but I don’t think it was about adjusting or adapting. I think it was more a case of M. Stoops out smarting himself. Also, how big a deal was losing Bond for this game? Did that contribute to MS getting to cute?
Bond was sorely missed.
Our runs on the first few series were getting 6-7 yards a pop. We just didnt stick with it early. At all.
We shouldn’t have been running against one of the poorest pass defenses in all of D-1.
Well….we kinda did sniff at titles over the years…just sayin.
He is never leaving Utah.
http://www.deseretnews.com/article/705285279/Kyle-Whittingham-In-control.html?pg=all
Well, he ain’t the only fish in the pond (colloquialism intended).
How does MS even have a job?
Must be related to someone important or something
Things have to change. This is embarrassing for Oklahoma.Did we lose against that Texas team???I don’t know, i remember that excellence was the standard for OU. And this is far from it.
Maybe the Akron job will come open and Bob will move back towards home!!!! i have seen enough!!! He just does NOT have it anymore!!!!!
Sadly.
Yea that’s never true. Ever. RB’s always have to have some sort of blocking.
I miss Ripkowski, Millard and Runnels…
I remember when OU was Baylor. IDK what happened to “big game Bob” haven’t seen him in years. Maybe for a game or two but not like the guy we hired in ’99 that had that fire and swagger about him.
Debacle for sure.
So whats new?
happens all the time anymore.
This is absurd. Zero excuse to lose to this AWFUL Texas team. Boo!
We scored with qb under center I-formation late in the game. Perhaps mix that in with the air raid in the middle of the field, too. PERINE is an elite back, and we need to use him. He is our best player, I believe. This magic offense needs to adjust to its players’ strengths.
OL sucks out loud. Can’t run any offense with a terrible line.
Scored twice with it. Would LOVE to see it in the middle of the field. Perine needs to be downhill. He can get 2-3 yards all on his own that way (almost.) But then we wouldn’t be “air raid,” if we run I-formation too much.
Guys, welcome to the new OU standard, mediocrity. This program is now officially second-tier.
Come to grips…The OU standard is not what it use to be!
Anyone remember the rumors (IF they were even true) during all the coaching changes that Bedenbaugh and Riley didnt like each other previously? I had forgotten about that until it just popped in my head, but I wonder how their relationship is now….?

I like our Dline this year and going forward….unless M. Stoops decides to play a 1- 5-5 defensive scheme….
Knowing Mike, I think we’ll start playing safeties at NT
Shhhhh…he might hear you.
St John gave about as much resistance as air.
Great work for a man that large…
Is Caleb Kelly a OLB or ILB? We lose both Striker and Bond, who is going to take their place? They are obviously key to our defensive success.
The defensive turnaround Venables has done at Clemson is remarkable.
Not really. There are no potent offenses anywhere in the ACC and zero spread offenses to contend with.
Ditto
Players’ attitudes reflect their leadership.
Bottom line is this team won’t go far bc oline sucks and Mike is well mike
Feel like I’ve been gut punched. Complete fail from top to bottom for my team. It’s useless to place blame, point fingers or call names because it doesn’t help anything. Nobody is getting fired, including Charlie Strong. I don’t want to say something I’ll regret on here, so I’m out. Really dread the media next few days. Still love my Sooners and Texsa still sucks.
you have to feel happy for charllie strong and coach norvell.
No. I don’t feel happy at all about anything right now, least of all anything Texsa. It’s ok if you do.
We have become Nebraska, a once storied program that has simply let itself become mediocre.
How does everyone in the SEC have a better O Line than us?
I don’t need to wait for any breakdowns from a x&o guru to know our defensive formations made no sense. Why didn’t we just load box and stop run. Geez. What a monumental letdown.
Our defensive scheme is the same every week. Play not to get beat deep, even against teams that can throw.
So…
On to listening to songs singing about barely legal sexual themes.
https://youtu.be/uqctMLuGnCQ
https://youtu.be/x5go-8MA6mU
https://youtu.be/1SLeQIcQeEk
We lined up in a 2-4-5 all day against a running team that can’t throw. That deserves all the criticism in the world.
The pop-gun offense is a joke in every facet.
Air Raid-less
I don’t think we expected them to throw the ball 12 times.
It is, especially with our running backs. I’m just scratching my head over this one.
Precisely.
He played one play due to dom’s helmet coming off.
Just thought about our “visitors” that were on the Texas sidelines today since they were the home team. And I wonder how much influence Norvell had towards exposing our obvious run defense tendencies, aka, misdirection plays and running QB’s always eat our lunch and throw the wrappers in our face, then burp.
Bob just got ripped in CBS article…
“The return of Big Game Bob? Um, no.
Big Game Bob? Stoops is 6-6 in his past 12 games against Power Five opponents. Big Game Bob? Stoops has lost 11 games since 2012 and nine of those defeats were at home or a neutral site. Big Game Bob? This is the second time in three seasons Oklahoma’s national championship hopes have vanished by losing as a double-digit favorite to a Texas program in disarray.”
http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/writer/jon-solomon/25334428/charlie-strong-gets-texas-sized-win-bob-stoops-falls-flat—-again-
Now, I’m certainly a supporter of our coach, but OUCH.
The truth is often painful.
Big Game Bob is now a punchline and has been for years. He’s just damaging the program now by staying.
That’s rough.
Take your pick, there’s 127 other programs’ wagons upon which you can ride. Side benefit? New wardrobe for Gamedays.
I think I’ll stick to supporting my alma mater and wanting it to thrive instead of lingering in mediocrity. But thank you for your concern.
Then for all that is Crimson Holy – grab some gumption and stop whining. Give some suggestions and stop your bellyachin’. It’s tired.
So now I see a four loss season; TU, TT or OSU, Baylor and TCU. Geez, hope I’m wrong!
And an uninspired loss in a bowl game as well.
Yup. This team will mentally check out again after another loss because they don’t believe in what they’re being asked to do.
I don’t see that in this team. Better leadership, more desire. Bad game for sure but I think it will piss these guys off.
Nah, we’ll beat some 3rd tier group of 5 school in the Liberty Bowl.
No, we’ll probably lose that game too.
JB, we all know you hate Mike & Bob. Let’s say Bob is forced to resign this year. Who is our HC in your opinion. If you want someone gone, surely you have a solution.
No one has a solution they just have a whole lot of problems.
If you are wanting a new HC, I’m sure you have one in mind. I was more curious than anything. If Bob did go, who would be “the” guy.
Fuente and venables would be at the top of my list. Saw some one on another site throw out briles, and I think people who suggest briles should be voted off the island. I firmly believe briles is breaking rule after rule down in Waco and it will all come out sooner or later.
JB mentioned they HC at Utah. He’s a very good coach.
I had both those on my short list, along with Phil Montgomery. Again, I would prefer to keep Bob but there are some good coaches we could go get.
Agreed. That’s a giant NCAA punishment waiting to happen.
How about the Utah coach?
First, I DON’T want Bob gone. Second, what options are out there? I’ll throw some names out there:
Philip Montgomery
Brent Venables
Chris Peterson
Justin Fuente
Monty, he’s never even been a coordinator. I’m not waving the keep Bob banner, I’m just curious who would be a good replacement.
I’m a dolt. Meant Philip Montgomery.
I’m not JB, but in my best Mack Brown voice….just give me a coach with a fire in his belly and we’ll go from there.
K-State looks like a loss too…add TTU as a loss. 6 loss season??
” HELL YES”
I can give you a yes! but can’t muster a hell yes. Maybe tomorrow. I’m too down after that pitiful performance.
😉
how about a ‘heck yeah” for now?
Sounds good .
At least the Fighting Butch Jones’ are putting up a fight before they blow it in the 4th quater.
Most of the guys in that locker room couldn’t have played for OU pre 2005.
You say that here. Would you say it to them in the locker room? Fact of the matter is: we didn’t beat Texas today. It is concerning.
Yes I would say it anywhere. Facts are facts
Check.
One hopes if you said it in the locker room, you’d feel shame. Or at least a growing sense of unease about your personal safety.
True, but I just think I would be ignored
We should hire utah or houston’s coach.
Yup. We need a new set of eyes and a new direction.
Talking about a possible new coach how about chip Kelly he just may be available this year and he may be ready to get back in the college game.
Somebody will get a gem by hiring him but I personally hate all things remotely associated with Oregon.
But he would bring fresh blood to the program.
But he coached Oregon. That is unforgiveable.
You would still hate the defense. Pass.
Houston or Utah’s coach.
Good coaches but I prefer Tulsa or Memphis. Montgomery knows how to coach and recruit. Fuente can coach and is an Oklahoma boy.
Utah is a machine right now.
I am most disappointed in the lack of fire and terribly inept tackling. They had 165 rush yards AFTER contact.
Nahhhh
Yeah they said the same thing at the end of both Barry Switzer and bud wilkinson era and look what happen you can’t just dismiss this idea it could happen I have seen it happen.
Texas is ascending? Please tell me you don’t believe that
Come on Zack you have been a sooner long enough to see it can happen yes I do believe Texas is going to start to get very good over the next couple of years just look how fast Bob Stoops turn it around in his first couple of years.
Texas will get beat by TT/BU/KSU/WV. They will win 4 maybe 5 games this year.
Yeah but what if they use this game as a rallying point on go to a bowl game if that happens with his ability to recruit it could be a game changer.
I don’t know what bothers me more – the run-on sentences or the sky is falling mentality. Actually, both are fairly annoying.
wrong
Bob went 13-0 his second season. Strong should be 1-5. Their program is an embarrassment and it’s embarrassing to lose to Texas this year.
Zack you are missing the point this program is in decline and it’s possible Texas may soon pass us they did in the 1960’s and 1990’s.
Texas may soon pass us? They will be lucky to make a bowl game. We will not only make a bowl game but we will have a 10 win season. It’s not that close.
I don’t agree we may lose 4 games have you forgot we have to go to Kansas State next week plus those last three games.
K state osu and tcu do not scare me at all. Clearly stoops has his work cut out for him but I’m chalking this game up to one of those head scratching losses. Some teams recover after a loss other falter. I’m hoping OU recovers.
Looking at stoops track record in recent years I have my doubts.
Sunshine pumper
Seriously, that’s what you came up with?
On the other hand, I did laugh. Not with you, but I did laugh.
That’s garbage.
What you think the program is in great shape you think Barry Switzer or Nick Saban would have lost to a team like this Texas team.
The article you referenced is garbage. I read it. The guy had no clue. That was a bad loss but I’m not an idiotic, knee jerk fan.
Texas has won two out of the last three while being double digit underdogs. I’d say the article is correct.
That is what I’m afraid of we may see Texas pass us and not look back.
Chip Kelly?
We need to get Art Bryles.
He won’t leave Baylor for Oklahoma he turn down the Texas job two years ago.
Offer him Bob Stoops salary and I bet he is there.
harbaugh getting mich rolling
Impressive what he has done there in 5 games. Three straight shut outs. Has basically same players as last years team plus some freshmen. Good coaching makes a difference.
Hey, if you tune in now you can watch Tennessee blow another 4th quarter. Ah, it never gets old.
As Lee Corso says, Not so fast……
Well, there’s still time!
Aw man. Wiscy missed the go ahead FG.
I think those teams are cheating. If it were legal, I’m sure OU would try it too.
geez, 67 yds rushing for ou today and gave up over 300
Under Heupel we could run, but not throw. Under LR we can throw (usually) but not run. How much of it is the weaker O line, and how much is scheme?
It’s a little of both but ultimately it still falls on the coaches.
can’t say tenn games aren’t exciting………..puts gators in sece driver seat for now
Hell even Tennessee won today in the 4th quarter damn.
Again…wasn’t the TE supposed to be a big factor this year?
Never caref for Michigan but kind of rooting for them after what Harbaugh has done up there.
I said it last week, and I’m repeating it here. Michigan is for real people. Harbaugh is working a miracle in Ann Arbor. Folks better start paying attention.
big game next week with mich st
arky is hangin with bama at bama, surprised
I’ll feel better in Ark can beat Bama. total schadenfreude
TCU 17-14 against KSU. 11 minutes in 2nd quarter remaining.
Looong way
Tired of hearing that…especially coming off last year.
TD KSU. Bout to be 21-17 wildcats…
snyder will giggle with anticipation when he sees our oline
Bob stoops has now been beat by two former coordinators. While his brother Still hasn’t put together a good consistent defense. How many 8&4 seasons before seat gets warm in norman,or will he get another 10 years.
Apparently just one 8-4 season…
TCU may have looked great against texas, but they now look decidedly mediocre against KSU. In other news, WVU is getting abused by little brother, so maybe our big win last week wasn’t really worth as much as we originally thought. Baylor is clearly the class of the Big 12 at this point. It’s 2007 all over again.
the Texas YAC is really a key stat…..165 yards I think it was.
we get whooped by a QB that completes 8 passes.
Our OL was a joke.
worst Texas team in 50 years and they whip us like a child.
terrible..sums it up
We better forget about Texas…don’t look now…Kstate..is playing football again..
28-17…Kstate…and 1st and goal on the 2
I miss our full our old fullbacks…
35-17…kstate…oh boy…they’ve got my attention.
better have our attention. Another QB that can run and run well, along with a defense that will come after you.
Don’t see us winning next week.
translation?????????
We lose by 10 points.
Translation?

Yeah, every year their OL looks solid. And they seem to all be on the same page with an effectively designed and implemented game plan, and play together with great discipline. I wonder what that would be like is OU were to try something like that?
TCU getting just embarrassed now. What a season
PATTERSON BETTER FIRE ALL HIS COORDINATORS
Yup…..that’s what this crowd would say
I mean I get that it’s maddening to lose games but to start burning it down because of one loss (when the torch bearers are the ones who expected 4-6 losses) is just ridiculous.
mera ba me login nahi ho raha hai kya hua
I am tired of the experiments where we hire the youngest person possible for OC. First Heupel and now Riley. It is a side of the ball where BS doesn’t coach. Hire somebody experienced.
Riley is a disaster. Successful offenses get the ball to the best players. Somehow we can’t figure that out. Mixon and Perine got 8 carries in the first half. That number should be closer to 20 than 10.
One loss and you say Riley’s a disaster? How can you possibly expect to be taken seriously with a statement like that?
We don’t have a good win on our record. Tenn is average at best. WVU is losing to OSU. Tulsa and Akron… seriously?
I have not just been saying this starting today. We are running an offense because it is what the OC wants, not because it fits our talent. Good OCs fit their offense to the talent. Bad OCs fit the talent to their offense. We are a very talented running team that doesn’t run.
I know you’ve been talking like this for a while. This is just the first day I’ve decided to tell you point-blank that if you’re so miserable being a Sooner fan, there are other programs.
The OC position at OU is too good for on the job training. We need to get somebody who knows what he is doing..
Akron, TU, and Tenn will probably all go bowling. What is more disturbing is the loss to a team that will probably finish below .500.
Sunshine pumper, only they accept “moral” victories
It is the OL. we wouldn’t be talking about a loss if the OL wasn’t bad. We couldn’t run the ball and we couldn’t protect mayfield.
If we are going to sell our soul to keep Mixon at OU, we should at least give him the ball.
Telling Joe Mixon to go someplace else doesn’t rob him of his future either.
Letting him stay shows that football players are invincible and don’t suffer consequences. All we did was redshirt him.
Did Joe Mixon even lose his scholarship while he was suspended?
Mixon was charged with a misdemeanor, received a 12 month suspended sentence (essentially parole), 100 hrs community service, and a $1200 fine. Keep in mind the young lady who he hit initiated the physical confrontation. Losing his position on the team was sufficient considering the state also punished him.
He took an Alford Plea, which means he didn’t even admit he did anything wrong.
Did he lose his scholarship?
His whole life everybody has told him that if you play football well everything will be OK.
At what point do you tell a 220 lb guy he can’t punch a girl in the face. Yes, she slapped him. Does that make it OK?
Thank you Matlock.
She called him a nigger and then slapped him. He shouldn’t have hit her, but I’m not sure you would have taken te high road either!
Lincoln Riley’s game plan was most assuredly one of them.
frogs coming back. well wudayaknow

Hating all Florida teams I always root for the lower ranked ball club. Hope FSU craps the bed.
wvu ties the pukes
Just want to say, there’s a lot of disappointment throughout the fanbase after today. This thread is big enough for criticism. Let’s be respectful of the opinions of others without making appraisals of their commitment or loyalty to OUr boys. Thanks and Boomer Sooner.
eh, let em vent and get it over with
tcu lost those d players but that team fights………boykin/receivers are something
pukes win………puke!
It’s not a nightmare, it’s “Groundhog’s Day.” Because we saw this same domination in the trenches and run game from Texas the past three years.
Out-coached and out-played once again. It’s getting to be a theme.
That the problem we aren’t we are Oklahoma but we are playing like New Mexico State.
Spot on. I wish I had thought of that.
